Abstract:In this research, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were synthesized using an eco-friendly approach. In this case, a sustainable method for synthesizing ZnO NPs was proposed, using Verbena officinalis leaf extract as a stabilizing and reducing agent. The obtained nanoparticle was characterized by XRD, FT-IR, SEM, DLS, and UV-visible spectroscopy. According to XRD analysis, the obtained ZnO NPs show a high-crystalline hexagonal (wurtzite) structure with an average size of 19.44 nm. As demonstrated by FT-IR spectral research, Verbena biomolecules serve as vital for the bioreduction of zinc ions. ZnO NPs have an even distribution and are spherical, with an average size of 19 nm. The UV-vis spectrum of the biosynthesized ZnO NPs absorb at 375 nm corresponding to the band gap of 3.3 eV. The experimental results have been determined by changing the catalyst dose, solution pH, and initial dye concentration at three different levels using a Box–Behnken (BBD) experimental design. In general, the adjusted coefficient of determination ( R 2 ) value of 0.9975 suggested that the selected model was highly appropriate and that the chosen RSM was effective in enhancing the breakdown conditions of CR. The ZnO NPs demonstrated a significant potential for dye degradation, where the highest degradation rate reached for CR degradation was 97%. In summary, the findings suggest that plant extract–mediated nanoparticles can be applied as a cost-effective catalyst for industrial dye degradation.

Abstract:Bionanotechnology is a promising field for the preparation of nano-sized substances in an environmentally safe manner. This study presents the facile preparation of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) from prickly pear peels extract by a green chemistry method. Rietveld structural refinement of the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern approved the creation of the hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO-NPs. The prepared nanoparticles were also identified by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis to check up the chemical states and purity. The peak of optical absorption of the nanoparticle has been observed at 370 nm. The band gap energy of ZnO-NPs is 3.2 eV. The morphology of the nanoparticles is spherical with a particle size of around 10–30 nm and the interplanar lattice spacing is 0.29 nm. ZnO-NPs were found to be a potential candidate for the photodegradation of Methylene Blue (MB, one of the organic dyes) leading to 85% efficiency as for its oxidative degradation when using hydrogen peroxide in aqueous medium (88% efficiency). Similarly, it shows significant photocatalytic activity with solar energy in less than 20 min compared to MB elimination when H 2 O 2 is used. The nanoparticles have shown a considerable catalytic performance and present the advantage of being easily separated from the treatment medium, since they remain stable after the catalytic process.

Abstract:The design of a green photocatalytic system that harnesses renewable and eco-friendly constituents holds the potential to offer valuable insights into alternative strategies for treating toxic multi-components in refinery water effluents. A significant challenge in implementing a practical and viable approach is the utilization of solar energy—an abundant, natural, and cost-effective resource—for photochemical processes within advanced oxidation processes. In this study, we explored the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) as photocatalyst prepared via an environmentally friendly synthesis approach, resulting in the formation of crystalline wurtzite nanoparticles, with an average size of about 14 nm relatively spherical in shape. Notably, the extract derived from Moringa oleifera was employed in this investigation. These nanoparticles were characterized and validated using various characterization techniques, including X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. For comparison, conventionally synthesized ZnO NPs were also included in the evaluations. The findings reveal that, under illumination, biosynthesized ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) exhibit photocatalytic performance in effectively breaking down the organic compounds present in synthetic petroleum wastewater. Photochemical analysis further illustrates the degradation efficiency of Green-ZnO, which, within 180 min of irradiation resulted in 51%, 52%, 88%, and 93% of removal for Phenol, O-Cresol. Under optimal loading conditions, NPs produced via the green synthesis approach perform better when compared to chemically synthesized ZnO. This significant improvement in photocatalytic activity underscores the potential of eco-friendly synthesis methods in achieving enhanced water treatment efficiency.
An Assessment of the Value of Frozen Sections in Gynecological Surgery

Abstract:&NA; In 203 consecutive gynecological operations where frozen sections were performed, 35.6% were from conditions of the ovary, 22.7% from the cervix, 18.2% from the endometrium, and 11.4% from the vulva. There were 0.5% false‐positive, 1.0% false‐negative and 2.0% deferred diagnoses. Incorrect interpretation was the cause of the single false‐positive diagnosis, while the false‐negative diagnoses were due to errors in block selection. The deferred diagnoses mainly occurred in gynecological conditions where diagnosis was difficult, required extensive sampling or a formal mitotic count. As in other surgical fields, gynecological frozen sections were used principally to guide the extent of surgery. The most valuable frozen sections were in those instances where the operation was affected most. These were on lymph nodes in cases of carcinoma of the vulva and cervix, myometrial lesions in young women where myomectomy was being considered, and ovarian tumours to distinguish primary from secondary tumours. Occasionally, frozen sections were also found useful to establish margins of vulval and cervical tumours, in hysterectomy specimens of endometrial carcinomas to determine prognostic factors, and in suspected recurrences and metastases of tumours to determine the adequacy of the biopsy material. Frozen sections in obviously benign conditions, e.g., ovarian cysts without papillary or solid areas, were found to be unnecessary. Frozen sections are contraindicated when only a small amount of crucial material is available, as the paraffin diagnosis may be compromised. Pathologists should have a clear idea of the role of frozen sections in gynecological surgery and work closely with the surgeon in the management of gynecological oncology patients.
Optimisation, Synthesis, and Characterisation of ZnO Nanoparticles Using Leonotis ocymifolia (L. ocymifolia) Leaf Extracts for Antibacterial and Photodegradation Applications

Abstract:This work presents a green synthesis route, which utilises extracts from an indigenous plant in South Africa, eastern and southern Africa that is understudied and underutilised, for preparing zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). This study involved optimisation of the green synthesis method using Leonotis ocymifolia (L.O.) extracts and performing comparative studies on the effects of using different zinc (Zn) salt precursors; zinc sulphate heptahydrate (Z001) and zinc acetate dihydrate (Z002) to synthesise the ZnO NPs. The comparative studies also compared the L.O-mediated ZnO NPs and chemical-mediated ZnO NPs (Z003). The as-prepared ZnO NPs were tested for their effectiveness in the photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) dye. Furthermore, antibacterial studies were conducted using the agar well diffusion method on Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria. The structural, morphological, and optical characteristics of the synthesised ZnO NPs were analysed using XRD, FTIR, SEM, EDS, DRS, and BET techniques. The XRD results indicated that the L.O-mediated ZnO NPs had smaller crystallite sizes (18.24–19.32 nm) than their chemically synthesised counterparts (21.50 nm). FTIR confirmed the presence of biomolecules on the surface of the L.O-mediated NPs, and DRS analysis revealed bandgap energies between 3.07 and 3.18 eV. The EDS results confirmed the chemical composition of the synthesised ZnO NPs, which were made up of Zn and O atoms. Photocatalytic studies demonstrated that the L.O-mediated ZnO NPs (Z001) exhibited a superior degradation efficiency of the MB dye (89.81%) compared to chemically synthesised ZnO NPs (56.13%) under ultraviolet (UV) light for 240 min. Antibacterial tests showed that L.O-mediated ZnO NPs were more effective against S. aureus than E. coli. The enhanced photocatalytic and antibacterial properties of L.O-mediated ZnO NPs highlight their potential for environmental remediation and antimicrobial applications, thus supporting sustainable development goals.

Abstract:ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) were produced by chemical sol-gel and green synthesis mediated by Plumbago zeylanica. UV-DRS spectroscopy revealed distinct absorption peaks at 357 nm (chemical) and 367 nm (green), with the latter exhibiting a lower optical bandgap of 2.88 eV and 3.03 eV for green and chemical ZnO NPs. FTIR analysis confirmed Zn-O stretching and aromatic aldehyde vibrations in both synthesis methods. XRD indicated a hexagonal wurtzite structure with crystallite sizes of 37.2 nm for chemically produced ZnO nanoparticles and 19.6 nm for green ZnO NPs. DLS analysis resulted in particle sizes of green-assisted and chemically prepared ZnO nanostructured materials 19 nm and 38 nm respectively. TEM confirmed these sizes and nanobeads morphology of prepared both ZnO NPs. Zeta potential measurements showed chemical stabilities of 23.8 mV (green) and 19.7 mV (chemical). TGA analysis demonstrated high thermal stability with minimal weight loss (2.17 % for chemical and 1.56 % for green). BET analysis provided specific surface areas of 7.92 m 2 /g (chemical) and 12.24 m 2 /g (green). Photocatalytic activity of malachite green dye was more efficient with 96.78 % for green-assisted ZnO NPs assessed with chemically produced ZnO nanoparticles (87 %), with the corresponding rate constants of 0.01928 min −1 and 0.00821 min −1 . Green-synthesized NPs exhibited free radical scavenging (IC 50 of 57.5 ± 2 % μg/ml) relative to ascorbic acid (IC 50 of 89.18 ± 2 %). These findings propose that plant-incorporated ZnO NPs are promising for environmental remediation and antibacterial applications. Nanotechnology has become a sustainable strategy to combat drug resistance. As agro-waste management has become a concern, efficient management of produced waste has been an imposing global issue. This study evaluated antioxidant, as well as antibacterial and antibiofilm potential of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) synthesized by hydrothermal approach using ethanolic extract of 'Monsooned Malabar Robusta coffee' husk against multi-drug-resistant (MDR) strains of enteroaggregative Escherichia coli , Salmonella Enteritidis, S . Typhimurium and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus . The fabrication of ZnO NPs was confirmed by spectroscopy, whereas thermogravimetric analysis-differential thermogravimetric analysis confirmed stability of ZnO NPs, while the X-ray diffraction pattern confirmed the wurtzite crystalline structure. The agglomerated nature of ZnO NPs with a nearly spherical shape was evident with scanning electron microscopy, whereas transmission electron microscopy revealed a poly-crystalline nature with a mean diameter of 26.33 ± 3.778 nm. The microbroth dilution technique revealed a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 250 μg/mL and a minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 500 μg/mL for the ZnO NPs. Furthermore, ZnO NPs exhibited significant antibiofilm activity against the MDR-test strains. Moreover, ZnO NPs were tested safe at MIC and MBC doses in chicken erythrocytes, and commensal gut microflora tested were not inhibited. Besides, a dose-dependent antioxidant property was exhibited by ZnO NPs. Additionally, in vitro time-kill kinetic assay of MDR-test strains treated with ZnO NPs revealed a complete bacterial clearance at 24 h. Overall, the synthesis of ZnO NPs from coffee husk demonstrated a simple, eco-friendly and valorization approach that could be devised as a potential delivery molecule. Abstract:Nanoparticles have attracted considerable attention of researchers due to their diverse properties in the fields of catalysis, energy devices, wound healing and drug delivery systems . Synthesis of nanoparticles using plants and microbial extract is a green approach due to easy handling, rapidity and cost-effectiveness. This article reported a simple and green method of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) synthesis using Camellia sinensis leaves extract as reducing agent. State-of-the-art techniques were utilized for the characterization and measure the potential applications of ZnO-NPs. FTIR and SEM analysis were performed to confirm the nature of bonding and morphology of NPs. XRD analysis confirmed the hexagonal wurtzite structure and crystallite size (34 nm) of ZnONPs. EDX analysis was performed to check the purity of NPs. Energy band gap of valence band and conduction band was found 3.278 eV using UV/Visible spectrophotometry. Purified ZnO-NPs were utilized to determine the photocatalytic potential for degradation of hazardous dye (methylene blue) at λmax of 668 nm under irradiation of sunlight. The results indicated ∼92% photodecomposition of dye after 110 min of sunlight irradiation. Moreover, ZnO-NPs also revealed the antibacterial potential, having better inhibition power against gram-negative bacterial strains.

Abstract:Eco‐friendly synthesis of ZnONPs using leaf extract of D. indica and M. micrantha. Both of the ZnONPs are poly polycrystalline having hexagonal wurtzite structure, and consist of spherical and polyhedral shaped particles of 25–30 nm in size for spherical ones. Obtained ZnONPs are excellent photocatalysts for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) dye under solar irradiation and have significant activity against various pathogenic bacteria. Researchers are keenly interested in developing metal‐based nanoparticles using plant sources as they are eco‐friendly, less expensive and simpler. Zinc oxide nanoparticles, symbolized as D‐ZnONPs and M‐ZnONPs were synthesized in this study utilizing the leaves of D. indica and M. micrantha, respectively, and studied their impact on the growth inhibition of various bacterial strains and on the photocatalysis. By displaying the distinctive surface plasmon resonance (SPR) band at 373 nm in UV‐Vis and bands at 450–480 cm−1 corresponding to Zn−O stretching FTIR spectroscopy imparted the formation of ZnONPs which was further supported by X‐ray diffraction analysis by showing the polycrystalline nature and a hexagonal wurtzite structure. The spherical form and average particle size of 30 nm of the produced ZnONPs, as confirmed by electron microscopy, are also confirmed to be crystalline. Under natural sunlight, both ZnONPs demonstrate excellent degradation efficacy about 96–99 % within 100 min towards methylene blue (MB). Furthermore, it is noteworthy that both the synthesized ZnONPs exhibited 55–60 % efficacy with respect to antibiotics in inhibiting the growth of various pathogenic bacterial strains. Overall, ZnONPs can be produced on a large‐scale using plant sources and employed them in environmental remediation and cosmetic industries as prominent components.

Abstract:Background Cocos nucifera (L) is a widespread tall plant and found to havelot of important pharmacological applications and it is very less toxic in nature. The water of the endocarp has high antioxidant activity, and its fiber was reported to have antibacterial, ant parasitic and anti-inflammatory properties. The oil derived from its edible parts have been used in cooking, in the preparation of the soaps and cosmetics etc. The water within can be processed to produce alcohol. Once the endocarp was crushed and the extract were removed it can used as a feed material and as a natural organic fertilizer. Herein, we report the novel method of utilizing the residue of the deoiled seed cake of Cocos nucifera (L) for preparing the metal oxides as a reducing agent and to test its antimicrobial level against human pathogens. Methods The method adopted in this investigation is the fermentation process of preparing the Cocos nucifera (L) extract by utilizing the water as the medium for the extraction process under room temperature. Results Structural nature and morphology of the synthesized samples were carried out using XRD and SEM analysis and the results revealed that ZnO belongs to hexagonal shape with primitive lattice cell arrangement and NiO had cubic structure with FCC lattice arrangements. The results of the average crystalline size of prepared nanoparticles using XRD and SEM were alike. Molecular bonding and stability were analyzed using FTIR instrumentation based on UV absorption and Tauc plot the bandgap of ZnO and NiO was calculated as 3.15 eV and 3.64 eV. Elemental composition was identified using EDAX analysis. Antibacterial assay was carried out against human pathogens including S.aureus, B.subtilis, E.coli and K.pneumoniae in comparison to the standard drug Gentamycin and the synthesized specimens ZnO and NiO showed the moderate activity with the zone of inhibition of about of 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm and 8 mm against the human pathogens. Conclusion Our results showed that the antimicrobial properties of the Cocus nucifera (L) mediated ZnO and NiO have moderate activity against the standard drug Gentamycin, three different doses were tested against the disease causing pathogens including S.aureus, B.subtilis, E.coli and K.pneumoniae. The zone of inhibition was found to be minimum. This may be attributed to the reason that even after the removal of the edible compounds from the seed of Cocos nucifera (L), the residue or the waste product found to have a moderate antimicrobial function against pathogens.

Abstract:This paper is concerned with an effective precipitation method to producing zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using Moringa Oleifera leaf extract as natural precursor. The advantages of such preparation are rapidity and cost-effectiveness. Furthermore, we can extract Moringa Oleifera leaf for a wide ZnO NPs production. Morphological and chemical structures of prepared ZnO NPs were perused via BET technique, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction and FTIR spectroscopy. The latter revealed the presence of different organic functions on the ZnO NPs surface. The ZnO single phase identified by XRD analysis, hexagonal crystallizes in the Wurtzite structure. Additionally, the biosynthesized ZnO NPs formed of particles with an average size of 24 nm. ZnO NPs were found to be active in degrading the methyl orange (MO) a persistent dye under visible light illumination. 70% MO degradation efficiency was observed when 500 mg of ZnO NPs as photocatalyst was suspended in 1 L solution containing 20 mg/L MO under solar light. The first-order kinetic model adequately describes the experimental data with a correlation coefficient ( R 2 ) of 0.99 and a photocatalytic half-life of 155 min.

Abstract:Abstract Synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) using plant extracts has been suggested as an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical synthesis of semiconductor NPs. In the present study, ZnO NPs were synthesized by a simple and cost-effective method using Coriandrum sativum leaf extract and zinc acetate as precursors. The as-synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized by UV-visible spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The results confirmed the formation of ZnO NPs with a wurtzite structure, spherical shape and average particle size of 24 nm. The photocatalytic degradation of reactive yellow 186 (RY 186) dye was carried out under direct sunlight irradiation and its degradation efficiency and apparent rate constant (K’ app ) of reaction were calculated to be 93.38%, and 0.0019 min −1 , respectively. The optical band gap value of the as-synthesized ZnO NPs was found to be 3.4 eV, which indicates the presence of blueshift. Owing to the presence of blueshift and a wide band gap of synthesized biogenic ZnO NPs, the overall absorption of sunlight irradiation will be enhanced, which leads to higher degradation efficiency of the dye. The current study thus highlights the optical band gap properties of biogenic ZnO NPs and their significance as a heterogeneous catalyst for the purification of polluted water.

Biogenic synthesis and characterization of antimicrobial, antioxidant, and antihemolytic zinc oxide nanoparticles from Desertifilum sp. TN-15 cell extract

Abstract:Cyanobacteria, being a prominent category of phototrophic organism, exhibit substantial potential as a valuable source of bioactive compounds and phytonutrients, including liposomes, amino derivatives, proteins, and carotenoids. In this investigation, a polyphasic approach was employed to isolate and characterize a newly discovered cyanobacterial strain from a rice field in the Garh Moor district of Jhang. Desertifilum sp. TN-15, a unique and less explored cyanobacterial strain, holds significant promise as a novel candidate for the synthesis of nanoparticles. This noticeable research gap underscores the novelty and untapped potential of Desertifilum sp. TN-15 in the field of nanomedicine. The characterization of the biogenically synthesized ZnO-NPs involved the application of diverse analytical techniques. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy revealed a surface plasmon resonance peak at 298 nm. Fourier transform infrared spectral analysis was utilized to confirm the involvement of biomolecules in the biogenic synthesis and stability. Scanning electron microscopy was employed to probe the surface morphology of the biogenic ZnO-NPs unveiling their size of 94.80 nm and star-shaped. Furthermore, X-ray diffraction analysis substantiated the crystalline nature of ZnO-NPs, with a crystalline size measuring 46 nm. To assess the physical stability of ZnO-NPs, zeta potential and dynamic light scattering measurements were conducted, yielding values of + 31.6 mV, and 94.80 nm, respectively, indicative of favorable stability. The antibacterial capabilities of Desertifilum sp. TN-15 are attributed to its abundance of bioactive components, including proteins, liposomes, amino derivatives, and carotenoids. Through the synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) with this strain, we have effectively used these chemicals to generate nanoparticles that exhibit noteworthy antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus (MIC: 30.05 ± 0.003 µg/ml). Additionally, the ZnO-NPs displayed potent antifungal activity and antioxidant properties, as well as significant antihemolytic effects on red blood cells (IC50: 4.8 µg/ml). Cytotoxicity assessment using brine shrimps revealed an IC50 value of 3.1 µg/ml. The multifaceted actions of the biogenically synthesized ZnO-NPs underscore their potential applications in pharmacological and therapeutic fields. This study proposes a novel method for ZnO-NPs production utilizing the recently identified cyanobacterial strain Desertifilum sp. TN-15, highlighting the growing significance of biological systems in the environmentally friendly fabrication of metallic oxide nanomaterials.
Plant-mediated green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles from Syzygium Cumini for seed germination and wastewater purification

Abstract:Water purification by eco-friendly and cost-effective method is a challenge for scientists in the current era. The present study reports a facile and cost-effective green synthesis method of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) from leaves extract of Syzygium cumini plant. UV–visible spectroscopy verified the synthesis of nano-catalyst ZnO-NPs. X-ray diffraction technique and scanning electron microscopy explored the formation of pure crystalline hexagonal and spherical NPs. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analysis ascertains the existence of flavonoids, phenolic acids, enzymes and steroids in leaves extract of S. cumini to reduce zinc slat into ions during synthesis and hence capping of the NPs. The ZnO-NPs were analysed for seed germination activity which showed enhancement in seed germination of Pennisetum glaucum seeds. The synthesised NPs were likewise utilised as nano-catalyst for degradation and removal of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye. Moreover, the effect of light irradiation time, temperature and pH was also investigated for optimisation of best conditions for degradation of dye. The green synthesised ZnO-NPs showed 98% degradation of RhB dye and purified the dye polluted water and, therefore, is an emerging catalyst for dye degradation.

Abstract:Zinc oxide, ZnO, nanoparticles have been synthesized using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) consisting of choline chloride and D-Lactic acid. The presented method proved to be simple, efficient, cost-effective, and eco-friendly for the formation of ZnO nanoparticles with specific morphology and properties. A variety of techniques have been used to investigate the composition, size, shape, and crystallinity of the nanoparticles, including UV–Visible spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy, XRD, FE-SEM, and EDX. The UV–Visible spectroscopy confirmed the synthesis of stable ZnO, with a band gap of 3.55 eV between 300 and 400 nm. The FT-IR spectroscopy revealed the presence of DES functional groups on ZnO nanoparticles. The average size of the ZnO nanoparticles was estimated to be 39 nm using XRD calculations, while the FE-SEM images showed that the particles are rod-like elongated and spherical in shape and have high surface activity causing their agglomeration. The synthesized ZnO nanoparticles were used as a catalyst to remove the organic dyes from the synthetic wastewater. Various factors were studied to achieve optimum conditions for the effective dye removal. The results showed that an adsorbent dose of 5 mg/50 mL removed 84 % and 99 % of Congo Red and Crystal Violet, respectively, within 70 min. The kinetic models used revealed that the adsorption followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics. Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin isotherms were used to explain the adsorption mechanism. Finally, the thermodynamic parameters for the removal of both dyes using ZnO nanoparticles demonstrated that adsorption was spontaneous.

Abstract:Graphene-based composite materials a wide range of applications, including the production of electronic components and capacitors, as well as adsorption and catalysis. In this work, the ZnO/ nanocatalyst was applied to synthesized biodiesel from waste edible oil (WEO) as an efficient and easily available source. The said nanomaterial was applied for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO). The catalyst was characterized by HRTEM, XRD (small angle and wide angle), SEM, EDX, BET, N2 adsorption/desorption isotherm, and TGA. The findings illustrated that the nanostructure has well-controlled pore diameter (4.0 nm) and prominent surface area (735 m2/g). Furthermore, it was possible to reuse the catalyst up to five times; with the results indicating that the catalyst's catalytic activity was sufficient for the synthesis of WEO biodiesel for up to three cycles before diminishing. The present study used a centralized composite approach to look at the influence of numerous features on biodiesel synthesis in order to discover the optimal conditions for biodiesel production. According to the findings, the maximum biodiesel conversion yields 98% had been obtained during a 7-hour reaction time at a temperature of 70 °C. The nanostructure has also been worked as a photocatalyst to degrade MB and MO. According to the statistics, more than 90% of both dyes were degraded in less than 40 min.

Abstract:This work obtained zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using organic components extracted from Waltheria americana at different concentrations. ZnO materials were subsequently applied in the photodegradation of two cationic dyes, Rhodamine B (RB) and methylene blue (MB), at different doses of catalyst and pH. The crystallinity and hexagonal Wurtzite structure of ZnO were established through XRD analysis. The Zn–O bond in the ZnO NPs was confirmed in the FTIR, with the characteristic signals observed in the fingerprint region at ~ 400 cm −1 . SEM and TEM revealed the formation of quasi-spherical particles with an average size ranging from 2 to 12 nm, depending on extract concentrations during synthesis. UV–Vis studies indicated the optical bandgap of ZnO, with values below 3 eV, also dependent on extract concentration. PL analysis revealed the recombination of free excitons and defects in ZnO. Photocatalytic studies of ZnO materials demonstrated excellent degradation efficiency of RB and MB dyes, which was influenced by the extract concentration of NPs, while the degradation of MB was enhanced with a 1:1 dye-to-catalyst ratio under acidic conditions. In contrast, due to RB more complex structure, an increased ratio of 1:1 to 1:3 and acidic pH conditions improved its degradation. Green-synthesized ZnO NPs using photocatalysis techniques exhibit significant potential as eco-friendly alternatives for removing contaminants from water.

Abstract:This work reports the successful solid state synthesis of ZnO/NiFe2O4 nanocomposite by calcinations of both green synthesized ZnO nanorods and NiFe2O4 prismatic nanorods at high temperature (850 {\deg}C) for ten hours. These nanomaterials were characterized for structural, functional groups and morphological studies using XRD, FTIR and SEM respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the catalysts was assessed through photodegradation of methylene blue (MB) dye. The photocatalytic studies reveal that the ZnO/NiFe2O4 nanocomposite exhibits high degradation efficiency under UV light. The study shows that in the removal of MB solution by ZnO/NiFe2O4 nanoparticles, OH and photoproduced holes h+ are the main species. Preparation of ZnO/NiFe2O4 nanocomposite by coupling of NiFe2O4 with green synthesized ZnO in solid state method is the novelty of this report. The synthesized recyclable ZnO/NiFe2O4 nanocomposite has potential applications in the treatment of both domestic and industrial waste water.
The MEF2B homologue differentially expressed in mouse embryonal carcinoma cells.

Abstract:The MEF2 gene family encodes a MADS-box transcription factor which regulates expression of many muscle-specific genes. We examined the expression of the MEF2 genes in mouse embryonal carcinoma P19 cells before and after in vitro muscle differentiation induced by dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO). At least three different MADS/MEF2 domains (MEF2A, 2B and 2D) were isolated from P19 cells with the MOPAC technique (mixed oligonucleotides primed amplification of cDNA). Although two of the MADS/MEF2 domain sequences were identical to those of human MEF2A and MEF2D, another domain sequence was similar but not identical to that of human MEF2B. While the transcription of MEF2A and MEF2D was up-regulated during differentiation of P19 cells, the MEF2B homologue was abundantly transcribed in undifferentiated P19, F9 and ES cells and down-regulated in adult heart, skeletal muscle or brain, suggesting that the murine MEF2B homologue might have a function distinct from other members of the MEF2 gene family in embryogenesis and development.
