Abstract:Coercive control is a process of violence in which one person acts in such a way as to subject the other to persistent controlling behavior. In the majority of cases, these are men, and the targets are their spouses and children. The psychotraumatic consequences are innumerable, and need to be understood before they can be identified and treated. The repercussions of coercive control are numerous, whether somatic, psychological, familial, social, professional or academic. This article describes the psychotraumatic consequences for both the victim and the children.
