Abstract:【Objective】To provide a reference for the application of sod culture mode of Camellia oleifera forest.【Method】In 2018, an intercropping trial of herbaceous plants was carried out between rows of four-year-old C. oleifera forests, of which the test grass species were Paspalum notatum and Coreopsis basalis, with clear tillage as the control(CK). The physical and chemical properties of soil, microbial diversity, and enzyme activity were determined in 2020to analyze the influences of intercropping P. notatum and C. basalis on the soil biological characteristics of C. oleifera forest.【Result】Compared to the control treatment, both intercropping P. notatum and C. basalis considerably increased the soil water content, porosity, and pH value in the 0-30 cm soil layer of C. oleifera plantations(P > 0.05), with the soil water content increased by 45.55% and 26.64%, the soil porosity increased by 10.18% and 17.54%, and the pH value increased by 6.97% and 4.98%, respectively. Furthermore, the soil organic matter increased by 35.91% and 23.09%, and the total nitrogen content increased by 16.22% and 33.78%, respectively(P > 0.05), compared to the control treatment, which showed that intercropping P. notatum and C. basalis could help to improve the soil organic matter and total nitrogen of C. oleifera forest. However, intercropping P. notatum and C. basalis reduced the phosphorus content of soil by 8.47%and 18.64% respectively compared with the control. Interplanting P. notatum increased soil bacterial diversity(P < 0.05)and decreased soil fungal diversity(P > 0.05). The Sobs index, Shannon index, and Simpson index of soil bacterial diversity increased by 42.20%, 6.40%, and 1.02%, respectively, compared with the control treatment under the pattern of interplanting P. notatum. Interestingly, the diversity of soil bacteria and fungi both significantly increased by interplanting C. basalis. Under the intercropping C. basalis pattern, the Sobs index, Shannon index, and Simpson index of the diversity of soil bacteria increased by 62.49%, 9.60%, and 1.02%, respectively, compared with the control treatment, and they increased by 46.00%,13.68%, and 3.26%, respectively. Compared to the control treatment, intercropping P. notatum and C. basalis increased soil urease activity(P > 0.05) by 36.69% and 20.13% respectively, while, in contrast, the soil polyphenol oxidase activity decreased by 24.22% and 29.19% respectively(P < 0.05).【Conclusion】Intercropping P. notatum and C. basalis improve the soil fertility level of C. oleifera forest to a certain extent and play a positive role in soil improvement and sustainable production of C. oleifera forest. Therefore, using P. notatum and C. basalis as service crops in the C. oleifera forest is recommended.
