Abstract:Psoriasis (PSO) and Atopic dermatitis (AD) are common inflammatory skin diseases that affect people of all ages globally. They negatively impact the quality of life (QoL) of patients in health-related aspects such as physical, psychological and mental functioning. Here, we conducted a review of studies relating to candidate biomarkers and indicators associated with QoL impairment in PSO and AD. Data research was performed using PUBMED and SCOPUS databases from inception to September 2022. Most of the included studies reported genomic or proteomic biomarkers associated with disease activity and QoL outcomes. Sociodemographic, clinical and therapeutic factors have also been implicated in deterioration of life quality in these patients. The inclusion of clinical characteristics, QoL impairment and co-diagnosis should be considered in drug development programs, since processing biomarkers based on an increased number of features in addition to drug class and disease will intensify the value of the biomarker itself, thereby maximizing the future clinical utility as a stratification tool.
Patient-Reported Outcome Measures for Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients With Psoriasis

Abstract:Importance Multiple patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) for health-related quality of life (HRQL) exist for patients with psoriasis. Evidence for the content validity and other measurement properties of these PROMs is critical to determine which HRQL PROMs could be recommended for use. Objective To systematically review the validity of HRQL-focused PROMs used in patients with psoriasis. Evidence Review Using PubMed and Embase, full-text articles published in English or Spanish on development or validation studies for psoriasis-specific, dermatology-specific, or generic HRQL PROMs were included. Development studies included original development studies, even if not studied in psoriasis patients per Consensus-Based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) recommendations. If a study included multiple diagnoses, more than 50% of patients had to have psoriasis or psoriasis-specific subgroup analyses available. Data extraction and analysis followed the COSMIN guidelines. Two independent reviewers extracted and analyzed the data, including PROM characteristics, quality of measurement properties (structural validity, internal consistency, cross-cultural validity, reliability, measurement error, criterion validity, construct validity, and responsiveness), and level of evidence. PROMs were classified into 3 levels of recommendations: (1) PROM recommended for use; (2) PROM requires further validation; and (3) PROM not recommended for use. Findings Overall, 97 articles were identified for extraction. This included 19 psoriasis-specific, 8 skin-specific, and 6 generic PROMs. According to COSMIN standards, most measures identified received a B recommendation for use, indicating their potential but requiring further validation. Only the Rasch reduced version of the Impact of Psoriasis Questionnaire (IPSO-11 Rasch) received an A recommendation for use given that it had sufficient content validity, structural validity, and internal consistency. Conclusions and Relevance This study identified a significant lack of information concerning the quality of HRQL measures in psoriasis. This gap in knowledge can be attributed to the fact that traditional measures were developed using validation criteria that differ from the current standards in use. Consequently, additional validation studies in accordance with contemporary standards will be useful in aiding researchers and clinicians in determining the most suitable measure for assessing HRQL in patients with psoriasis.

Abstract:Psoriasis is a widespread chronic inflammatory skin disease, that negatively affects physical and emotional well-being and quality of life, as shown by the generally low Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Psoriasis is burdened by associated comorbidities and some patients manifest concurrent oral lesions, although the existence of oral psoriasis remains controversial. Psoriasis-specific and nonspecific oral lesions and Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL), self-assessed using the Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) questionnaire, were retrospectively reviewed in adult untreated psoriasis patients with ≥15 teeth, who were non-smokers and had no dental or periodontal infections. Sample (age, gender, comorbidities) and descriptive variables (Body Surface Area-BSA, Psoriasis Area and Severity Index-PASI, Dermatology Life Quality Index-DLQI, severity of psoriasis, distribution of lesions and predominant involvement, years since diagnosis) were correlated with DLQI and OHIP-14 and compared by baseline DLQI and OHRQoL classes. Charts from 90 participants were included. No oral lesions were detected, and excellent/good OHRQoL was found in 94% of the participants. DLQI scores displayed positive significant associations with PASI and BSA, while OHIP-14 with hypertension and IMID, and age. PASI and BSA were significantly higher in participants with DLQI > 10 and also differed significantly among OHQRoL ranks, as well as mucosal involvement and comorbidities. Specifically, among subjects revealing an Excellent OHQRoL, 92.6% were non-IMID, 75% non-hypertensive, 89.7% non-diabetic subjects, 86.8% of non CVD-subjects.

Abstract:Abstract Background: Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory papulo-squamous disease characterized by multiple remissions and relapses. This study aimed to assess the impact of psoriasis on the quality of life of patients. Materials and Methods: A hospital-based, cross-sectional study was conducted enrolling 198 adult patients of psoriasis. The STROBE (Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology) guidelines for observational studies were followed. Clinical severity of psoriasis was measured using Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI), and quality of life was measured by EuroQoL 5D (EQ-5D-5L, EQ-VAS) and Psoriasis Quality-Of-Life-12 (PQOL-12) Questionniares. Results: Of the 198 patients, 71.7% ( n = 142/198) were males with a mean age of 41.65 ± 13.19 years. The mean PASI score was 12.46 ± 11.51, and the mean PQOL-12 score was 50.18 ± 23.36. Up to 22.7% ( n = 45) cases had ‘severe’ and 6.1% ( n = 12) cases has ‘very severe’ PQOL-12 scores. Statistically significant correlation ( P < 0.05) was observed between PASI scores and almost all domains of EQ-5D-5L and PQOL-12. Conclusion: Psoriasis affects most psycho-social domains of a patient’s life. Coping with these QOL issues remains a challenge to the patients in everyday life. The goal of management of psoriasis therefore must include measures to improve quality of life along with long-lasting remittance of physical symptoms.

Abstract:<span>The clinical, social, and economic implications of Parkinson's disease (PD) are significant; disability occurs leading to a low quality of life (QoL). Information on the QoL of patients with PD and studies on the relationship between QoL and motor and cognitive function are necessary for both research and clinical use to make informed decisions in healthcare and rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to determine which scales are most used to assess QoL in patients with PD.A literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, Scopus, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Web of Science. Two authors independently identified eligible studies based on predefined inclusion criteria and extracted the data. Study quality and the risk of bias were assessed using the COSMIN checklist.116 suitable studies were included, and 42 different instruments were identified. The most frequently used scales were the 39-items and 8-items Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-39) (PDQ-8). These findings suggest further investigation of existing PD outcome measures would benefit patients, researchers, and clinicians. Validated, universal outcome measures are required to allow comparisons across practice; therefore, we recommend that future researchers use a common set of outcome assessments based on the results of this review.</span>

Abstract:Background: When psoriasis affects scalp, nails, palms and soles, it is considered difficult to treat and causes severe impairment of life quality.Objective: We evaluated which difficult site most impacts on the patient's quality of life and how quality of life changes during treatment.Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study in patients receiving adalimumab over a 24 weeks period, through assessment at weeks 0, 4 and 24 using PASI, PAIN VAS, ITCH VAS, DLQI, NAPSI, PSSI. Pearson correlation was used to evaluate the relationship between the various measurements on the basis of three different deltas (between T0 and T24, between T0 and T4, between T0 and average between T4 and T24)Results: The correlation matrix between T0 and T24 shows a significant correlation between delta PASI and delta ITCH and delta ITCH and delta DLQI and a significant correlation between ITCH delta and DLQI delta and a correlation close to significance between DLQI and NAPSI.Conclusion: We identified itching as a mediator between the cutaneous extension of psoriasis and the impact on quality of life. We also documented the predominant role of nail psoriasis in defining the impact on the quality of life of the psoriatic patient.

Abstract:Background: The concept of wellbeing is expansive and intricate, making it challenging to define precisely. Similarly, the instruments employed to assess wellbeing are complex and multifaceted. Therefore, it is more appropriate to refer to the notion of wellbeing as Health-Related Quality of Life (HRQoL), which is the central focus of many measures used to assess the feeling of wellbeing. This review aimed to identify the tools most commonly used to evaluate HRQoL in individuals with Parkinsonism-a group of movement disorders that negatively impact the quality of life due to the intricate interplay of symptoms, socio-demographic characteristics, and psychological factors. The main aim was to assess the psychometric properties of these measures in terms of validity and reliability. Methods: A literature review was conducted, focusing on research related to the assessment of HRQoL in connection to symptoms of Parkinsonism. This review included all studies that examined HRQoL using evaluation scales, exams, or self-reported questionnaires. The literature review was conducted using the databases Scopus and Web of Science and the search engine PubMed to identify studies published between 1996 and 2023. Only records that assessed HRQoL in individuals with Parkinson's disease and Parkinsonism were selected for evaluation. Results: A total of 393 records were examined, and eight tools were identified as the most frequently used in the evaluation of HRQoL. Discussion: The results show a significant gap in knowledge regarding the latent structure and measurement invariance of HRQoL measurements, which may have a significant influence on the interpretation of test outcomes. Moreover, there is a lack of clear divergent validity between HRQoL assessments and other tests used as predictors of HRQoL. This could represent a significant limitation, affecting the construct and criterion validity of HRQoL measures.
Health Utility and Its Affacting Factors for Patients with Psoriasis in China

Abstract:To assess health utilities and examine factors affecting health utilities among patients with moderate to severe psoriasis in China. Data were obtained from a cross-sectional HRQoL survey of psoriasis patients in 29 tertiary hospitals of 7 cities in China from June to July, 2012. Eligible patients were assessed with moderate to severe psoriasis by physicians and treated with prescriptions during the visit/hospitalization. Degree of moderate and severe was estimated by physicians based on definition of BSA score 3-10% and >10%. Participants completed HRQoL measures of EuroQol 5 domains (EQ-5D), Short Form 6 domains (SF-6D) and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Socio-demographic and treatment satisfaction information were also collected from the participants. Mean scores were compared and stepwise multivariate linear regression was conducted to assess factors associated with health utilities. A total of 150 patients were included with 50% female, mean age of 43.87 years and mean disease duration of 5.19 years. About 22.67% patients reported having at least one comorbidity with anxiety/depression (14.00%) and related infection (10.00%) listed on the top. 36.67% patients expressed dissatisfaction with their current treatment. Mean EQ-5D, EQ-VAS, SF-6D and DLQI scores were 0.64, 63.23, 0.72 and 11.09, respectively, with significant difference between the severe and moderate group in all measures(0.50 vs. 0.77, 58.12 vs. 67.48, 0.67 vs.0.75, 14.43 vs. 8.33, all p<0.001). Regression analysis indicated that health severity indicated by DLQI score was significantly associated with value scores of EQ-5D, EQ-VAS, SF-6D. Sleeplessness and living in Tier 1st city decreased EQ-5D and SF-6D scores and treatment dissatisfaction had the negative impact on EQ-VAS and SF-6D scores with statistic significant. Compared with moderate patients, patients with severe psoriasis have poorer health utilities. Increasing the patients’ satisfaction with their treatment and controlling insomnia may raise their health utilities effectively.

Abstract:Cartilaginous metaplasia in lipomas (chondrolipoma) is rare and mainly encountered in large-sized, long-standing lipomas. Chondrolipomas can be found at almost any site of the body, particularly in the connecting tissue of the skeletal system, breast, pharynx, and nasopharynx. We report on an intermuscular tumor of the thigh in a patient who suffered from lipomatosis in his past medical history. We describe how the diagnosis of chondrolipoma was reached and discuss the differential diagnoses.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION: Psoriasis is a chronic, psycho-dermatological condition. Psychological factors can trigger and/or exacerbate skin lesion. Relapse of disease can be a source of stress and can worsen the patient's Quality of Life. Coping with psoriasis can create stress. This can become a vicious cycle.AIM: To illustrate the connection between quality of life and coping strategies in a psoriasis patient group and to describe a methodology for identifying the risk group of patients who need immediate attention in terms of developing better coping strategies.MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifty patients with psoriasis were enrolled in the study. The severity of psoriasis was assessed by the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) was used for quality of life assessment, and the COPE questionnaire was used for determination of coping strategies used by psoriasis patients.RESULTS: The results of the study indicate the relationship between quality of life and coping strategies. In patients with coping < 140 and at least elementary education, psoriasis disease is most likely to have an extremely large effect on quality of life as measured by the DLQI score being above 21.CONCLUSIONS: Psoriasis is a distressing disorder that significantly impairs quality of life. There is a close link between quality of life and coping strategies. This study illustrates a methodology for identification of a risk group of patients with a highly decreased quality of life indicator and underdeveloped coping strategies. Future management of psoriasis may require involvement of multidisciplinary teams that help patients to manage the physical and psychological aspects of psoriasis.
Life quality among psoriasis patients based on Dermatology Life Quality Index evaluation and its association with psoriasis severity in China: a cross-sectional study

Abstract:Psoriasis critically influences the psychosocial well-being of patients and reduces their quality of life and work efficiency beyond skin symptoms. However, evidence on the association between life quality based on the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and psoriasis severity is limited, particularly in China. This study aimed to explore the association between life quality based on the DLQI evaluation and disease severity among psoriasis patients in China. Four thousand two hundred and thirty psoriasis patients were recruited from the Chinese National Clinical Research Center for Skin and Immune Diseases from 2020 to 2021. Information was collected by applying a structured questionnaire and onsite physical examination. Data analysis was performed by using SAS software (version 9.4; SAS Inc., Cary, NC), and statistical significance was set at p < .05. Four thousand two hundred and thirty psoriasis patients were predominantly male (64.6%), with a median age of 38.6 years (interquartile range (IQR): 30.0–50.9). The Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score for patients with psoriasis was 7.2 (IQR: 3.0–13.5), and 50% of patients with PASI scored over 7. A total of 84.1% of psoriasis patients reported that psoriasis affected their quality of life from mild to severe. The DLQI scores among psoriasis patients were positively correlated with PASI scores ( r = 0.43, p < .01), both in patients of different sex and different age. Logistic regression analysis with the adjustment of potential confounders indicated that patients with higher PASI score also had higher DLQI score, the odds ratio (OR) were 1.69 (95% confidence interval (CI): 1.38–2.08) for patients with PASI score 3–7, 2.61 (95% CI: 2.10–3.25) for patients with PASI score 8–11 and 3.36 (95% CI: 2.78–4.07) for patients with PASI score ≥12, compared with patients with PASI score <3, respectively. Life quality based on DLQI evaluation positively correlated with disease severity among patients with psoriasis, especially among male patients and those with higher body mass index. Therefore, we recommend that clinicians treat the DLQI as an important indicator during patient treatment.

Abstract:This study examines the origins and utilization trends of top quality-of-life (QoL) measures in acne research. A literature search on PubMed identified the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI), Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI), and Acne Quality-of-Life Questionnaire (Acne-QoL) as the most frequently used QoL measures in studies on Acne Vulgaris. The DLQI was implemented in 142 studies it since its inception, compared to 43 utilizing CADI and 21 utilizing Acne-QoL. Despite it not being acne-specific, DLQI's usage surpassed other measures by over 50% annually since 2006. While DLQI displayed the steepest rise in utilization, usage of all measures increased significantly from 2010 to 2020. This trend underscores the growing emphasis on patient-centered outcomes in acne research, highlighting the need to incorporate both patient-reported and objective outcomes to better capture disease severity and its impact on patients' lives. For dermatologists, QoL indices can expand disease severity beyond purely objective clinical measurements.

Abstract:Background The Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) is a valuable tool for assessing the quality of life in adult patients with psoriasis. Aims To analyse the reliability and validity of the DLQI to measure the quality of life in patients with mild to moderate-severe psoriasis. Methods This was a secondary validation study nested in a follow-up study. The Rasch-Andrich model was utilised to perform response function, item and person fit, differential item functioning, dimensionality, and reliability analyses. Results A total of 1439 patients were analysed, 52.1% male, mean age of 48.7 years (SD 16.1). Psoriasis vulgaris was the phenotype in 43.1% of patients, and 86% had a mild Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI). Adequate adjustment of the response function and the items was observed in the best-fit sample, except for item 7 (work and study). The measure explained 60.9% of the variance and presented a reliability of 0.86. Differential item functioning was identified by age, with a relevant bias in the estimation for older adults. Item-person maps are provided. Limitations This study was performed at a single centre, with most patients presenting a mild PASI score, limiting generalisation of the findings. Conclusion The validity evidence favours the use of the DLQI in moderate-severe psoriasis. However, the instrument biases the estimate of older adults. This population group should consider a specific version of the instrument.

Abstract:Background: Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder affecting 2–3% of the global population, and is associated with several comorbidities, including psychiatric disorders. This study aimed to identify factors influencing anxiety, depression, and quality of life (QoL) in patients with psoriasis. Methods: This observational study included 112 patients diagnosed with psoriasis. Dermatological and psychiatric assessments were conducted using Psodisk, the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAM-A), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAM-D), Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), and 36-Item Short Form Health Survey (SF-36). Descriptive statistics, correlation analyses, and multivariate regression models were employed. Results: The sample was predominantly middle-aged males (mean age 48.91 years). Females (p < 0.001), patients with arthritis (p < 0.05), and those with a sedentary lifestyle (p < 0.05) showed higher anxiety and depression scores. Psodisk subscales significantly correlated with psychiatric symptoms and QoL measures (p < 0.001). Pain (B: 0.63, p < 0.05; B: −2.03, p < 0.01) and sleep disturbances (B: 0.68, p < 0.01; B: 0.60, p < 0.01; B: −1.46, p < 0.01; B: −1.57, p < 0.05; B: 3.91, p < 0.05) emerged as major predictors of poor mental health and reduced QoL. Conclusions. The study underscores the complex relationship between psoriasis, psychiatric comorbidities, and QoL. Key factors exacerbating anxiety and depression include female gender, arthritis, and sedentary lifestyle. Comprehensive management of psoriasis should address both dermatological and psychological aspects, with a focus on pain relief and improving sleep quality to enhance overall patient well-being.

Abstract:Aim: The aim of this review was to identify specific instruments currently available for measuring quality of life in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and to evaluate their psychometric properties in order to provide robust evidence for their application in clinical practice. Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension is a rare pulmonary vascular disorder predominantly affecting women aged 30-50 years. It leads to elevated pulmonary artery pressure, causing increased cardiac workload. Symptoms such as dyspnea and fatigue progressively deteriorate. Given the substantial impact on patient well-being, quality of life assessment is a critical concern. Generic quality of life measures often fail to capture the unique challenges associated with PAH. Therefore, identifying a PAH-specific quality of life instrument is essential for optimising patient management. Design: A systematic literature review. Methods: A systematic review was performed to assess the psychometric properties of quality of life instruments for PAH patients, following the 2018 Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments (COSMIN) guidelines. The literature search was conducted across Pubmed, Scopus, CINAHL, EMBASE, and APA PsycINFO databases. Results: This review included four quality of life instruments: CAMPHOR, LPHQ, emPHasis-10, and PAH-SYMPACT. CAMPHOR and PAH-SYMPACT received a GRADE A rating, while LPHQ and emPHasis-10 were rated GRADE B. Despite some sample size limitations, these instruments demonstrated varying degrees of internal reliability, validity, and content coverage for assessing quality of life in pulmonary arterial hypertension patients. Conclusions: This review provides an overview of available tools for assessing quality of life in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. Critical evaluation of these tools highlights incomplete psychometric assessments and methodological limitations in reference studies. Future research should prioritise more rigorous methodologies to ensure comprehensive psychometric evaluations.
Critical importance of patient-reported outcomes for a comprehensive assessment of psoriatic arthritis patients

Abstract:Introduction Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a heterogeneous, chronic inflammatory disease that negatively impacts patients’ quality of life. Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are used to capture patient perspectives in disease assessment, and physicians use the Disease Activity Index for Psoriatic Arthritis (DAPSA) to evaluate disease activity in PsA. The study aimed to assess the relationship between PROMs and the DAPSA score in consecutive outpatients affected by PsA. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study was conducted from March 2018 to October 2020 at the PsA clinic of the ARNAS Civico in Palermo (Italy), enrolling outpatients with PsA. Patients were assessed for their disease activity according to the DAPSA score, and PROMs, such as PHQ-9, HAQ, FACIT-F, and PsAID, were evaluated. Linear regression analysis evaluated the relationship between the DAPSA Score and the included PROMs. Results 158 PsA consecutive peripheral subset psoriatic arthritis outpatients were recruited. The median years of illness was 10.6 (9.3–11.9), and the median DAPSA score was 19.02 (9–33.1). The regression analysis highlighted a strong relationship between the DAPSA score and the PsAID (adjR 2 26%, p < 0.0001), the FACIT-F (adjR 2 25.4%, p < 0.0001), the HAQ (adjR 2 23.7%, p < 0.0001), and PHQ-9 (adjR 2 15%, p < 0.0001). Conclusion PROMs are strongly associated with the DAPSA score, but it allows in-depth evaluation of the impact of the disease on different domains of PsA patients’ life.

Abstract:Quality of life impairment in dermatology patients and severity of psoriasis are quantified by the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) and the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI), respectively. The aim of this study is to compare the correlation between PASI and DLQI in patients from different geographical areas and to identify predictors of high DLQI across geographical regions. Correlations between PASI and DLQI were evaluated using Spearman’s rank correlation tests and quantile regression. The study included 1,158 patients with psoriasis, with a median (interquartile range) PASI and DLQI of 6.0 (3.0–12.0) and 8.0 (4.0–15.0), respectively. Correlations were demonstrated between PASI and DLQI, both overall and stratified by geographical region. Quantile (median) regression yielded coefficients of 0.75 (95% confidence interval (95% CI) 0.62, 0.88) for Switzerland, 0.50 (95% CI 0.42, 0.58) for Latin America, 0.34 (95% CI 0.16, 0.51) for Asia, and 0.31 (95% CI 0.08, 0.53) for the USA. Current age, age at diagnosis, sex, body mass index, and psoriasis arthritis affected DLQI in Latin America, while education had an impact among patients treated in Switzerland. Few countries were included within each continent; hence, more data from different countries are necessary for generalizability. The study showed correlations between PASI and DLQI among patients in all included geographical regions. The patients’ characteristics affecting DLQI vary worldwide.

Abstract:All the scoring methods for the DLQI miss the moderate impact of the disease on patients, which may underestimate the impact of psoriasis on patients' quality of life. To improve the accuracy of the assessment of the Dermatology Life Quality Index score (DLQI) for patients with psoriasis, this study proposed and validated a new scoring method, the DLQI-NS, which includes the moderate impact option in the self-assessment of each item in psoriasis patients.

Abstract:The European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV) Task Forces (TFs) on Quality of Life (QoL) and Patient Oriented Outcomes, Melanoma and Non‐Melanoma Skin Cancer (NMSC) present a review of the literature and position statement on health‐related (HR) QoL assessment in skin cancer patients. A literature search was carried out to identify publications since 1980 that included information about the impact of SC on QoL. Generic, dermatology‐specific, cancer‐specific, SC‐specific, facial SC‐specific, NMSC‐specific, basal cell carcinoma‐specific and melanoma‐specific QoL questionnaires have been used to assess HRQoL in SC patients. HRQoL was assessed in the context of creation and validation of the HRQoL instruments, clinical trials, comparison of QoL in SC and other cancers, other diseases or controls, HRQoL assessment after treatment, comorbidities, behaviour modification, predictors of QoL and survival, supportive care needs, coping strategies and fear of cancer recurrence. The most widely used instruments for HRQoL assessment in SC patients are the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Core Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ‐C30), the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy‐Melanoma (FACT‐M), Skin Cancer Index (SCI), Short Form 36 Item Health Survey (SF‐36) and the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). The TFs recommend the use of the cancer‐specific EORTC QLQ‐C30, especially in late stages of disease, and the melanoma‐specific FACT‐M and SC‐specific SCI questionnaires. These instruments have been well validated and used in several studies. Other HRQoL instruments, also with good basic validation, are not currently recommended because the experience of their use is too limited. Dermatology‐specific HRQoL instruments can be used to assess the impact of skin‐related problems in SC. The TFs encourage further studies to validate HRQoL instruments for use in different stages of SC, in order to allow more detailed practical recommendations on HRQoL assessment in SC.
