Abstract:Improving the specific capacitance and energy densityof a fiber-shapedsupercapacitor (FSSC) is critical to its applications as an energystorage device for advanced smart wearable electronics. In this paper,a heterogeneous poly-(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly-(styrenesulfonate)/reducedgraphene oxide/molybdenum disulfide (PEDOT:PSS/rGO/MoS2) fiber was prepared to achieve a high-performance and durable electrodefor the FSSC. As indicated, pseudocapacitive MoS2 was insitu grown on a highly conductive acid-treated PEDOT:PSS/rGO assemblywith a hierarchical structure. This structural design emphasizes thewrinkled morphology and high conductivity of the PEDOT:PSS/rGO backboneto maximize the MoS2 deposition and accelerate its electrontransfer, which fully utilizes the pseudocapacitance of MoS2 and provides additional capacitance contribution to the obtaineddevice. Attributed to the synergy, the prepared fiber electrode inthe FSSC exhibits high volumetric/areal specific capacitance (325.8F cm(-3)/405.3 mF cm(-2) at 1 A cm(-3) or 1.2 mA cm(-2)) and excellent rateperformance (82%, 1-10 A cm(-3)). The correspondingdevice shows an ultrahigh volumetric energy density of 6.9 mW h cm(-3) at a high power density of 173.6 mW cm(-3) and an areal energy density of 8.5 mu W h cm(-2) at 215.9 mu W cm(-2), together with excellentcycle stability and mechanical flexibility, outperforming most ofthe previously reported FSSCs. Accordingly, the proposed strategyprovides a great opportunity to develop a high-performance FSSC forfurther wearable electronics.
Facile design of structurally robust, highly conductive and well-flexible hybrid film based on MXene, cellulose nanofiber and poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiphoenes):polystyrene sulfonate for supercapacitors

Abstract:Robust, conductive and flexible electrode materials have been the focus of attention in portable, wearable electronics. However, it is still a significant challenge to achieve synergistic development of multiple properties simultaneously. Herein, we propose a combination of microscale design and nanostructures strategy to prepare MXene/cellulose nanofiber-poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiphoenes):polystyrene sulfonate (Ti3C2Tx/CNF-PEDOT:PSS, TC-P) hybrid film by a simple in-situ polymerization and vacuum filtration process. CNF serves as the supporting skeleton of PEDOT:PSS, effectively mitigating its self-aggregation and structural deformation due to the expansion/contraction of the polymer network. And the CNF-PEDOT:PSS composite is capable to open up the interlayer space of Ti3C2Tx, which reduces the self-stacking of Ti3C2Tx nanosheets. The strong interactions among the three components enable the hybrid film electrode to possess both flexibility and high electrochemical properties. As a result, the film electrode exhibits a remarkable tensile strength of 77.4 MPa and an excellent conductivity of 162.5 S cm-1, as well as an outstanding areal specific capacitance of 896 mF cm-2 at 4 mA cm-2. Moreover, the assembled symmetric supercapacitor (SSC) device displays a large areal energy density of 62 µWh cm-2 at a power density of 800 µW cm-2 and demonstrates a long cycle life with 85.1 % capacitance retention after 10,000 GCD cycles. This study provides an effective strategy to balance mechanical flexibility and electrochemical properties, providing an inspiration to prepare flexible electrodes that are widely applied in a new generation of portable, wearable electronics.
A homologous strategy to parallelly construct doped MOFs-derived electrodes for flexible solid-state hybrid supercapacitors

Abstract:Developing efficient and cost-effective electrode materials is of essential significance to advance various energy storage technologies, among which flexible supercapacitors hold great promise to meet the growing popularity of wearable electronics. Herein, we report a homologous strategy to parallelly synthesize phosphorus-doped ZnCo 2 O 4 (P-ZnCo 2 O 4 @NCC) and nitrogen-doped carbon (NC@NCC) both derived from ZnCo-metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) precursors in-situ grown on dopamine-modified carbon cloth (NCC) as conductive substrates. Impressively, the as-obtained P-ZnCo 2 O 4 @NCC can achieve a high specific capacitance of 2702.2 mF·cm −2 at 1 mA·cm −2 with the capacitance retention rate exceeding 70.6% at 10 mA·cm −2 , demonstrating the outstanding rate capability. Moreover, flexible solid-state hybrid supercapacitors, using P-ZnCo 2 O 4 @NCC as positive electrode and NC@NCC as negative electrode, are assembled with poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/KOH as the gel electrolyte, which deliver the energy density of 11.9 mWh·cm −3 when the power density reaches up to 47.3 mW·cm −3 . In addition, 85.15% of the initial specific capacitance is maintained after 5000 continuous cycles and no obvious capacitance decay is observed under different bending conditions, revealing the excellent cycling stability and flexibility. As a proof-of-concept demonstration, two as-assembled hybrid supercapacitors connected in series can light up a red light-emitting diode (LED) under the bending angle of 180°, heralding the feasibility for broad practical applications.

Abstract:The development of high-performance and flexible supercapacitors is of urgent demand but still challenging. MXene, a novel two-dimensional material, has metallic conductivity, good hydrophilicity, and high redox activity. Significantly, its good electrochemical and mechanical properties suggest its great potential in flexible supercapacitors. However, the poor interlayer conductivity and self-stacking of MXene flakes hinder the charge transfer and ion transport. Herein, a three-dimensional porous structure composed of MXene, carbon nanocoils (CNCs) and Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) (denoted as MXene/CNC/PP) has been successfully prepared by a facile drop-coating method for flexible film electrode. The CNCs, having unique 3D helical structures and excellent dispersity, insert into the MXene flakes to prevent their over stack and provide spaces and channels for electrolyte storage and ion transport inside the composite structure. Meanwhile, the CNCs also act as highly conductive bridges to connect the MXene flakes, enhancing the charge transfer. To increase the stability of the composite structure, the conducting polymer PEDOT:PSS was selected as an conductive binder to prepare self-supported MXene/CNC/PP film electrodes without additional additives. The MXene/CNC/PP electrode exhibits an areal capacitance of 232 mF cm−2 at 10 mV s−1 with superior rate capability, excellent cycling stability and flexibility. This paper provides a new strategy for construction of wearable high-performance flexible electrodes and supercapacitors.

Abstract:Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) attract great attention in electrochemical energy storage devices owing to high porosity, adjustable structure and abundant active sites. Nevertheless, their cycle stability and rate property are far unsatisfied to construct high performance devices due to the poor conductivity and structure ability. Herein, a high conductive and stable Ni-based metal organic framework (Ni-MOF)/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) composite is synthesized from Ni-MOF nanosheets and 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene(EDOT) monomer via an in situ chemical vapor polymerization (CVP) method. The covering of conducting PEDOT on Ni-MOF results in significantly improved conductivity and electrochemical performance. The Ni-MOF/PEDOT composite exhibits an ultrahigh specific capacitance of 1401 F g−1 and the retention of specific capacitance is maintained over 80% subsequent to 1000 cycles at 10 A g−1. Moreover, an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) based on Ni-MOF/PEDOT and activated carbon (AC) is assembled, which achieves an energy density of 40.6 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 450 W kg−1.

Abstract:In this study, zirconium-based metal organic framework (MOF) (UiO-66) has been synthesized and coated on carbon nanotube film (CNTF) (noted as U-C), the following is electrochemically codeposited poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)-graphene oxide (PEDOT-GO) on U-C to obtain a flexible porous electrode (PEDOT- GO/U-C). The electrochemical measurements including cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy and galvanostatic charge/discharge have been performed. Electrochemical studies show that the PEDOT-GO/U-C electrode exhibits an exceptionally areal capacitance of 102 mF cm(-2) at 10 mV s(-1) than that of PEDOT/U-C electrode (89 mF cm(-2)) with a three-electrode system, indicating the existence of GO in the composites effectively improve the capacitive performance of PEDOT/U-C. Moreover, there is a synergistic effect between UiO-66, PEDOT and GO sheets. A device of PEDOT-GO/U-C has also been assembled and tested. The optimum device shows the energy and power densities of 0.0022 mWh cm(-2) and 0.2 mW cm(-2) at the current density of 0.4 mA cm(-2). The device exhibits the excellent flexible properties under different curvature conditions.

Abstract:A core–shell structure composite material consisting of a conductive polymer and 2D conductive metal–organic frameworks (CMOFs) was assembled by hydrothermal methods. The use of polypyrrole (PPy) as a backbone effectively prevents the aggregation of CMOFs. Its own hollow structure provides better conductivity while shortening the ion diffusion pathway. Benefiting from the rational structural design, the performance of 572.2 F g–1 is demonstrated by the core–shell electrode. In addition, we incorporated the material into the hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) and verified its excellent energy density and lifetime. Furthermore, 12 light-emitting diodes (LEDs) can be illuminated by two HSCs connected in series. Flexible Solid-State Supercapacitor Fabricated by Metal-Organic Framework/graphene Oxide Hybrid Interconnected with PEDOT

Abstract:We have successfully synthesized the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-1 (HKUST-1) metal organic framework (MOF)-graphene oxide (GO) hybrids (noted as H-G) onto carbon nanotube film (CNTF) and further electrochemically deposited poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) to give a flexible conductive porous electrode (noted as PEDOT/H-G-CNTF), which shows excellent electrochemical performance due to the mesoporous structure of H-G in PEDOT/H-15G-CNTF hybrid. Electrochemical studies show that the PEDOT/H-15G-CNTF exhibits an exceptional areal capacitance of 128 mF cm(-2) at 10 mV s(-1) than that of PEDOT/HKUST-1-CNTF (81 mF cm(-2)) in a three-electrode system, indicating that the incorporation of GO into the hybrids effectively boosts the capacitive performance of PEDOT/HKUST-1-CNTF. To further explore the capacitive performance of PEDOT/H-15G-CNTF electrode, a symmetric flexible solid-state supercapacitor has also been assembled and tested. The assembled optimum flexible supercapacitor shows superior areal capacitance (37.8 mF cm(-2)) at the scan rate of 5 mV s(-1), and good charge/discharge capability using PVA/H3PO4 gel electrolyte. The volumetric energy density for this device is calculated to be 0.051 mWh cm(-3), with a volumetric power density is 2.1 mW cm(-3) at current density of 0.4 mA cm(-2). Abstract:A new strategy has been designed for enhancing the electrochemical performances of the supercapacitor electrode. In this work, hetero-structure flexible conductive cotton equipped with lamellar structure nickel/cobalt-based MOFs (NiCo-MOF) is prepared through a self-sacrifice template method. The in-situ conversion measure effectively strengthens the binding forces between the active materials and the current collector, which decreases the charge transfer resistance at the electrode-electrolyte interfaces. Morphological modulation of the NiCo-MOFs is carried out to construct fast transport channels for ions and charges during the charging-discharging process. The optimized NiC/NiCoMOF21 is composed of uniformly dispersed nanosheets with large gaps, which can provide more free space and active sites for electrode reactions. The energy density of the asymmetric supercapacitor (carbon cloth as negative electrode) reaches to 0.38 mWh cm-2 at 1.6 mW cm-2 (16.7 % loss of the initial capacity after 2000 cycles), which overcomes the low energy storage performance of the existing textile-based electrodes.

Abstract:Due to the enhanced electrochemical activities, mixed metal oxides offer new and fascinating opportunities for high-performance supercapacitor electrodes. However, sluggish ionic and electronic kinetics within the electrode fundamentally limit further improvement of their electrochemical performance. To compensate for the deficiency, a flexible electrode (CNTF/Ni-Co-Mn-Mo NS/CNTN) composed of vertically-aligned areolate quaternary metal oxide nanosheets sandwiched between carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is constructed in this study, which demonstrates a unique hierarchical porous structure that can provide three-dimensional transport channels for both ions and electrons. The vertically aligned areolate quaternary metal oxide nanosheets enable increased exposed surface area and paths for ion transport, diffusion and redox reactions, resulting in an evident enhancement in electrochemical activities. Besides, the CNT networks provide improved conductivity, which can accelerate the electron transport. As a result, the flexible supercapacitor based on the CNTF/Ni-Co-Mn-Mo NS/CNTN electrode demonstrates a specific areal capacitance of 3738 mF cm−2, corresponding to a high energy density of 1.17 mW h cm−2, which outperforms most of the flexible devices reported recently. Additionally, excellent flexibility of up to 180° bend and superior performance stability of 87.87% capacitance retention after 10,000 charge-discharge cycles can be obtained. This unique design opens up a new way in the development of flexible energy storage devices with high performance.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as a promising electrode material for supercapacitors owing to their high porosity and a regular porous structure, however, the capacitance performance and/or ion conduction rate performance of most MOFs with poor electrical conductivity are greatly hindered. To increase the bulk electrical conductivity and the efficiency of MOFs, an effective method was proposed by interweaving organic conductive polymer polyaniline (PANI) and MOF crystals (ZIF-67) grown in situ. As a result, the highly conductive PANI that interlink the MOF particles (denoted as ) increase the electron transfer between MOF particles while the effective porosity of the MOF is maintained, which greatly improves the electrical conductivity and capacitance of MOFs. Electrochemical studies indicates that the exhibits ultrahigh specific capacity of 1123.65 C g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1 in a three-electrode system, superior rate capability (648.9 C g−1 at 10 A g−1 current density) and excellent cycling stability (92.3% capacity retention after 9000 cycles). Furthermore, a symmetrical supercapacitor device based on network exhibits ultrahigh energy density of 71.1 W h kg−1 at a power density of 504.72 W kg−1 at 1 A g−1 current density. The capacitance performance of 2 we report here is the best among the supercapacitor materials formed by MOFs and conductive polymers up to date, confirming the importance of hybrid materials on the nanoscale and the significance of in situ synthetic chemistry.

Abstract:Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with intrinsically porous structures are promising candidates for energy storage, however, their low electrical conductivity limits their electrochemical energy storage applications. Herein, the hybrid architecture of intrinsically conductive Cu‐MOF nanowire arrays on self‐supported polypyrrole (PPy) membrane is reported for integrated flexible supercapacitor (SC) electrodes without any inactive additives, binders, or substrates involved. The conductive Cu‐MOFs nanowire arrays afford high conductivity and a sufficiently active surface area for the accessibility of electrolyte, whereas the PPy membrane provides decent mechanical flexibility, efficient charge transfer skeleton, and extra capacitance. The all‐solid‐state flexible SC using integrated hybrid electrode demonstrates an exceptional areal capacitance of 252.1 mF cm−2, an energy density of 22.4 µWh cm−2, and a power density of 1.1 mW cm−2, accompanied by an excellent cycle capability and mechanical flexibility over a wide range of working temperatures. This work not only presents a robust and flexible electrode for wide temperature range operating SC but also offers valuable concepts with regards to designing MOF‐based hybrid materials for energy storage and conversion systems.

Abstract:Nanocomposites consisting of a cerium-based metal–organic framework (Ce-MOF-808) and a conducting polymer, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT), are synthesized by performing the pulse electrodeposition of PEDOT within the Ce-MOF-808 thin films. Ratios between MOF and PEDOT in the composites are tunable by simply adjusting the charge density used for electropolymerization, and the crystallinity, morphology, and elemental distributions of the resulting nanocomposites are characterized. Electrochemical behaviors and capacitive performances of the pristine MOF, pristine PEDOT thin films, and composite thin films are investigated with the use of the neutral sodium sulfate aqueous electrolytes. The reversible electrochemical reactivity of the highly porous Ce-MOF-808 provides a pseudocapacitance, and the electronically conducting PEDOT can not only offer a remarkable double-layer capacitance but also facilitate the electronic conduction between the redox-active cerium sites present in the MOF. As a result, the composite can outperform both the pristine MOF and pristine electrodeposited PEDOT as the active materials for supercapacitors. Findings here suggest that the highly porous and redox-active cerium-based MOF thin films are capable to enhance the capacitive performances of the electrodeposited PEDOT thin films.

Optimization of a Conductive Polymer Layer on MOF-Derived Carbon Materials for High-Performance Supercapacitor Electrodes

Abstract:In this study, we report the preparation of a highly conductive metal–organic framework-derived carbon nanocomposite material with excellent electrochemical activity through a simple surface coating of carbonized-ZIF-8 (C-ZIF-8) with poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)–poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT–PSS). X-ray diffraction results indicate the successful transformation of crystalline ZIF-8 to amorphous carbon (C-ZIF-8) during carbonization at 850 °C. As-prepared C-ZIF-8 and C-ZIF-8/PEDOT–PSS nanocomposites with different weight ratios of 2:1, 8:1, and 14:1 (C-ZIF-8:PEDOT–PSS) were found to have specific surface areas of 920, 450, 740, and 810 m2 g–1, respectively. Importantly, the increase in the ratio of PEDOT–PSS (to 2:1) reveals that the PEDOT–PSS seems to block the micro- and mesopores of C-ZIF-8 due to the high density of the PEDOT–PSS coating. In cyclic voltammetry results, the specific capacitances of C-ZIF-8 and C-ZIF-8/PEDOT–PSS (14:1, 8:1, 2:1) at a scan rate of 5 mV S–1 were 44.1, 114.2, 149.4, and 110.3 F g–1, respectively. The C-ZIF-8/PEDOT–PSS nanocomposite exhibited a 4-fold increase in specific capacitance (77 F g–1) compared to that of pristine C-ZIF-8 (18.4 F g–1) at a current density of 0.5 A g–1 by galvanostatic charge–discharge. The retention of specific capacitance is maintained over 86% subsequent to 1100 cycles at 2 A g–1 by cyclic stability tests. Furthermore, the specific capacitances of C-ZIF-8/PEDOT–PSS coated on a bendable carbon cloth in its initial state and after the bending cycle test were 208.2 and 186.8 F g–1, respectively. This indicates that it maintained approximately 90% of its specific capacitance after 1000 bending cycles. Our experiments demonstrate that the C-ZIF-8/PEDOT–PSS nanocomposite exhibits a continuous conductive pathway and electrochemical activity due to PEDOT–PSS along with high porosity, a high specific surface area, abundant electroactive sites, and faster ion diffusion kinetics due to C-ZIF-8.

Electronic Doping of Metal‐Organic Frameworks for High‐Performance Flexible Micro‐Supercapacitors

Abstract:The combination of high specific surface areas, well‐defined porous structures, and redox‐active sites renders the organic frameworks as promising electrode materials for next‐generation energy storage devices. Despite the recent advancements in the fabrication of conductive metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs), they generally require tedious synthesis procedures, which hinder their energy‐related applications. Herein, a doping strategy using electron acceptor molecules is demonstrated to tune the ohmic electrical conductivity of MOF thin‐film electrodes. For instance, the conductivity of MOF Cu3(BTC)2 film is enhanced over 40 times after doping with 7,7,8,8‐tetracyanoquinododimethane (TCNQ). Thereby, asymmetric in‐plane micro‐supercapacitors (MSCs) are constructed utilizing in situ‐grown TCNQ@Cu3(BTC)2 as the cathode and activated carbon as the anode, which delivers remarkable areal capacitance of 95.1 mF cm−2 at a scan rate of 5 mV s−1, superior to those of the reported MSCs (0.1–50 mF cm−2). Moreover, the fabricated devices show long‐term stability with 94.1% capacitance retention up to 5000 charge‐discharge cycles at 10 mA cm−2. The molecular doping engineering of organic framework materials with excellent electronic properties for energy storage and conversion applications is inspired. An electronic doping strategy is demonstrated to tune ohmic electrical conductivity of metal‐organic framework thin‐film electrodes for high‐performance flexible microsupercapacitors. The fabricated device delivered a remarkable areal capacitance of 95.1 mF cm−2 at 5 mV s−1. Abstract:The poor electronic conductivity and instability of metal–organic framework (MOFs) nanomaterials have been considered as the main reasons that hinder their practical application. Here, the bimetallic NiCo-MOF is in-situ grown by two-dimension expanded MXene to construct promising hierarchical electrodes. Benefitting from the hydroxyl group on the surface of MXene attracts metal (Ni, Co) ions by weak coordination, leading to oxygen vacancies during NiCo-MOF formation. At the same time, the density functional theory (DFT) calculation displays that the redox active center of NiCo-MOF is guaranteed to possess excellent electron and ion transport performance. Moreover, the open morphology based on expanded MXene by the hard template method can solve the re-stacking problem of MXene and provide a larger growth area for NiCo-MOF. The electrode design engineering strategy significantly improves the capacitance performance by increasing the electrochemically active site and promoting the ion dynamics. Specifically, the integrated solid-state hybrid supercapacitor (HSC) with MXene@NiCo-MOF and activated carbon (AC) exhibits energy density of 40.23 Wh·kg −1 at a power density of 1495.07 W·kg −1 and 84.4 % capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles via adopting this strategy. The strategy also provides a new route to improve the performance of flexible MXene-based supercapacitors with polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel electrolytes.

Abstract:Poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was reported to be an organic electrode material for supercapacitor. But poor stability and small capacitance restrict its further application. Here, we fabricate a new PEDOT-based supercapacitor device where the working electrode is prepared by depositing trace of Ni-rich oxide on the interface between PEDOT and substrate (named as PEDOT-Ni2+/NiO-SS). This PEDOT-Ni2+/NiO-SS half-electrode obtained a higher specific capacitance of 236 F/g, good rate capability and superior cycling stability (99% capacitance retention after 2500 cycles) than those of untreated PEDOT. Subsequently, a flexible all-solid-state asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC) device was fabricated by using PEDOT-Ni2+/NiO-carbon cloth as positive electrode and untreated PEDOT-carbon cloth as negative electrode. An ASC cell presented higher energy density (40.15 Ah/Kg) and power density (1.32 kW/Kg) than the symmetrical supercapacitor device composed of untreated PEDOT. PEDOT-Ni2+/NiO-SS structure could facilitate the insertion of ions from electrolytes into electrode material, achieve long cyclic lifetime and high electrochemical stability. The electrochemical deposition method to modify electrode interface using metal oxide could be a promising strategy and pave the way for the preparation of other supercapacitor electrodes.

Abstract:Advanced supercapacitor electrodes require the development of materials with dense redox sites embedded into conductive and porous skeletons. Two-dimensional (2D) conjugated metal–organic frameworks (c-MOFs) are attractive supercapacitor electrode materials due to their high intrinsic electrical conductivities, large specific surface areas, and quasi-one-dimensional aligned pore arrays. However, the reported 2D c-MOFs still suffer from unsatisfying specific capacitances and narrow potential windows because large and redox-inactive building blocks lead to low redox-site densities of 2D c-MOFs. Herein, we demonstrate the dual-redox-site 2D c-MOFs with copper phthalocyanine building blocks linked by metal-bis(iminobenzosemiquinoid) (M2[CuPc(NH)8], M = Ni or Cu), which depict both large specific capacitances and wide potential windows. Experimental results accompanied by theoretical calculations verify that phthalocyanine monomers and metal-bis(iminobenzosemiquinoid) linkages serve as respective redox sites for pseudocapacitive cation (Na+) and anion (SO42–) storage, enabling the continuous Faradaic reactions of M2[CuPc(NH)8] occurring in a large potential window of −0.8 to 0.8 V vs Ag/AgCl (3 M KCl). The decent conductivity (0.8 S m–1) and high active-site density further endow the Ni2[CuPc(NH)8] with a remarkable specific capacitance (400 F g–1 at 0.5 A g–1) and excellent rate capability (183 F g–1 at 20 A g–1). Abstract:Porous carbon derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represents a novel class of carbonaceous materials with unique structural characteristics, conductivity, and chemical stability, rendering them suitable for electrodes in supercapacitors. Herein, a three-dimensional structure of conductive porous carbon nanoflakes (CPCN) is synthesized based on MOFs composed of organic ligands containing zinc and cobalt. Nanoscale CdSe particles serving as energy-storage materials are incorporated into CPCN (CdSe/CPCN@CC) to form the flexible electrode for sodium-ion supercapacitors. The electrochemical properties of CdSe/CC, CdSe/ZnCo-MOF@CC, Cd/CPCN@CC, and CdSe/CPCN@CC are studied in 1 M Na 2 SO 4 . The CdSe/CPCN@CC electrode shows an impressive specific capacitance of 893.52 F g -1 at a current density of 0.125 mA cm -2 and excellent cycling stability with 80.68% retention after 10,000 cycles in 1.0 M Na 2 SO 4 . The asymmetric supercapacitor constructed with CdSe/CPCN@CC and 1 M NaPF 6 electrolyte shows a capacitance of 97.8 F g -1 , an energy density of 139.10 Wh kg -1 , and a power density of 589.82 W kg -1 at a current density of 1 mA cm -2 . In addition, the capacitance retention is 88.45% after 10,000 cycles. The electrochemical properties of CdSe/CPCN@CC are improved due to the incorporation of more active materials as well as the synergistic effects of the CdSe nanoparticles and CPCN. Density-functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal a sodium ion adsorption energy of -1.0692 eV and large DOS near the Fermi level. More importantly, in spite of severe mechanical bending, the device continues to power an LED array boding well for flexible and wearable applications.
