Abstract:In heterogeneous catalysis, developing robust catalysts and preventing the metal leaching during the reactions still remain challenging. Herein, a porous honeycomb-like nanostructure with bimetallic Ce–Cr oxide supported on N-doped carbon was prepared via a facile in-situ pyrolysis method. The prepared catalyst was highly active, selective, and stable in the transformation of cyclohexane to KA oil with H2O2 as the oxidant. The N-doped carbon served as an excellent support for the metal nanoparticles and greatly promoted their dispersion, and displayed a comparable or superior catalytic activity compared to the other traditional supports. It was found that the pyridinic N and pyrrolic N species of N-doped carbon were the main active sites for the metal immobilization, and the strong electronic interaction between N-doped carbon and Ce–Cr oxide was formed. The results revealed that the increased low-valence metal species might be responsible for the improved catalytic activity, and EPR analysis indicated that the hydroxyl radicals played a crucial role during the oxidation process. Besides, the catalyst can be easily separated and still remained stable after recycling seven times, making it a promising candidate for the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane to KA oil under mild conditions.
Rational Design of Nitrogen and Carbon Co-Decorated Mesoporous TiO2 Composites for Photocatalytic Selective Oxidation of Alcohols

Abstract:Photocatalytic organic synthesis has attracted much attention in recent years. Herein, a N and C co-decorated mesoporous TiO2 (mp-NCT) photocatalyst was synthesized for selective oxidation of alcohols. Notably, the asprepared mp-NCT composites possess large specific surface areas and mesoporous structures, which could provide sufficient active sites and improve mass transfer. Furthermore, the co-doping of N and C species could not only extend the light absorption, but also tune the valence band of TiO2. Meanwhile, numerous oxygen vacancies and intra-band could be introduced, which helps to reduce the combination of the photogenerated carriers. As a result, the mp-NCT composites show excellent photocatalytic performance towards selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol and its derivatives to corresponding aldehydes under simulated sunlight irradiation. Mechanism studies revealed that the photogenerated electrons, holes and high dynamic equilibrium concentration of O2 center dot- radicals were responsible for the efficient conversion of alcohols to aldehydes.
Preparation and Catalytic Activity of Au-Ag Bimetallic Catalyst for Cyclohexane Oxidation

Abstract:Catalysts of Au,Ag and Au-Ag bimetallic nanoparticles supported on SiO2 modified by Ni(OH)2 were synthesized via adsorption phase reaction technique in water/ethanol system.The X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscope(TEM) and ultraviolet-visible diffuse-reflectance spectra(UV-Vis DRS) were employed to characterize the prepared catalysts.The results show that the Au,Ag and Au-Ag particles have the sizes of nanometer and disperse well on the support.When the prepared catalysts are used in the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane with tert-butyl hydroperoxide as oxidant at mild temperature of 70℃ and without solvent,both Au and Ag show having activity under low temperature.Au-Ag bimetallic catalysts show obvious synergetic effect resulting in higher activity and stability.It was also found that the activity of prepared Au-Ag bimetallic catalysts increases with the increase of Ag content.
Strongly active and environmentally friendly WO3/C3N4 photocatalysts for converting cyclohexane to cyclohexanone under ambient conditions

Abstract:C-H bond activation under mild conditions remains a great challenge in the chemical industry, while catalytic cyclohexane oxidation is inefficient and often requires organic solvents and strong oxidants. This study constructed a C3N4/WO3 Z-type heterojunction catalyst to efficiently convert cyclohexane into cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol (KA oil) through aqueous phase oxidation by O2 under visible light irradiation. With strong redox performance and high photogenerated carrier separation ability, the proposed composite catalyst can produce the key active species for cyclohexane oxidation in the H2O-O2 system. The reaction mechanism was clarified through experiment and DFT theory calculation. Cyclohexane was converted into cyclohexyl radical under the action of ·OH, and ·O2- converted most products into cyclohexanone. The catalyst can be recycled under optimized process conditions while reaching a KA oil yield of 139.73 μmol g-1 h-1 and a selectivity of 93.1%.

Abstract:Photothermal oxidation of cyclohexane with molecular oxygen in solvent-free is considered to be an efficient approach for the formation of cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol (KA oil), and possesses the potential to generate the next stage product of adipic acid (AA) by one-pot oxidation in chemical industry. Herein, a unique type of Co8La1Ox/WO3 Z-scheme nanocomposites with p-n heterojunction was successfully constructed by a facile process of solvothermal reaction in conjunction with the simple impregnation method. The Co8La1Ox/WO3 Z-scheme heterojunction nanocomposites achieved an excellent catalytic performance for the photothermal oxidation of cyclohexane at 120 ℃ under visible light in solvent-free conditions. Surprisingly, 10.35% conversion of cyclohexane with 98.75% selectivity of KA oil (liquid, 80.97%) and AA (solid, 17.78%) was achieved during the reaction time of 3 h. Moreover, the desirable durability and stability of the Co8La1Ox/WO3 composites demonstrated a potential application as an industrial catalyst. The outstanding catalytic performance of the Co8La1Ox/WO3 composites could be ascribed to the enhanced electron excitation capacity, the accelerated electron-hole separation and migration, the inhibited charge recombination, the strong visible-light absorption, and the efficient synergetic catalytic effect of photo-thermo. Besides, high oxygen adsorption capacity and large specific surface area of the Co8La1Ox/WO3 composites can efficiently build a bridge between cyclohexane and O2 to fully utilize the oxygen participation in the oxidation. The present approach provides a promising perspective for the designing and constructing of Z-scheme heterojunction catalyst with a high-efficiency photo-thermo catalytic performance in the oxidation of cyclohexane to KA oil and AA in chemical industry.

Abstract:The selective catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane has important scientific research significance and application value in the field of heterogeneous catalysis. However, it is difficult for traditional catalytic systems to balance high conversion and high selectivity with convenient catalyst separation. In this study, Z-scheme WO3-Co3O4 composites are conceived and synthesized through controlled growth of Co3O4 square nanoparticles on WO3 nanorods for the boosted photo-thermo catalytic performance in the cyclohexane oxidation. The morphology structure, interface chemical bonding and photoelectrochemical properties of WO3-Co3O4 composites are investigated by various means of characterizations. The WO3 -Co3O4 composites present significantly increased catalytic performance than WO3 nanorods and Co3O4 nanoparticles in the photo-thermo synergistic catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane under dry air. The high conversion rate of 11.46% with a KA oil selectivity of 99.12% was achieved using WO3-Co3O4 300 composite catalyst, which is 2.33 times that of WO3 nanorods and 1.24 times that of Co3O4 nanoparticles under the same catalytic conditions. The effect of reaction temperature and proportions of WO3-Co3O4 on the catalytic performances have been comparatively surveyed. Furthermore, energy band structure analyses and sacrificial trap experiments elucidate the Z-scheme charge transfer mode in WO3-Co3O4 composites to enhance the photo-thermo catalytic performance in cyclohexane oxidation.

Abstract:The selective oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol (KA oil) is a challenging issue in the chemical industry. At present the industrial conversion of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol is normally controlled at less than 5% selectivity. Thus, the development of highly active and stable catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane is necessary to overcome this low-efficiency process. Therefore, we have developed a cobalt-nitrogen co-doped porous sphere catalyst, Co-NC- x ( x is the Zn/Co molar ratio, where x = 0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 4) by pyrolyzing resorcinol-formaldehyde resin microspheres. It achieved 88.28% cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol selectivity and a cyclohexane conversion of 8.88% under Co-NC-2. The results showed that the introduction of zinc effectively alleviated the aggregation of Co nanoparticles and optimized the structural properties of the material. In addition, Co 0 and pyridinic-N are proposed to be the possible active species, and their proportion efficiently increased in the presence of Zn 2+ species. In this study, we developed a novel strategy to design highly active catalysts for cyclohexane oxidation.

Direct Synthesis of Bifunctionalized Hexagonal Mesoporous Silicas and Its Catalytic Performance for Aerobic Oxidation of Cyclohexane

Abstract:According to the characteristics of the cyclohexane oxidation reaction a series of bifunctionalized hexagonal mesoporous silicas, CoPh-HMS, were designed and successfully synthesized by a one-step co-condensation route. The results of small-angle XRD, TEM, and N-2 adsorption-desorption measurements showed that the resultant materials had well-ordered mesoscopic structures. Co2+ ions were incorporated into the frameworks in tetrahedral coordination along with phenyl groups immobilized on the surface, confirmed by a careful spectroscopic (FT-IR, UV-visible, and Si-29 MAS NMR) study. The surfaces of the materials were proved to be more hydrophobic with higher Ph loading, and the largest water droplet contact angle is tip to 110.50 degrees. These materials were applied in the liquid-phase oxidation of cyclohexane with molecular oxygen as oxidant and tert-butyl hydroperoxide as initiator Linder solvent-free conditions. High activity could be obtained with these bifunctionalized catalysts being used. The modification effect of phenyl groups played an important role in the activity enhancement.

Abstract:Selectively aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane using the homogeneous catalysts is an industrially important process, suffering from the difficult catalyst separation, low conversion and selectivity. Herein, a series of single-atom Co catalysts, possessing the ultralow Co loading of below 1.0 wt.‰, supported on mesoporous graphitic carbon nitrogen (Co/g-C 3 N 4 - w ) were prepared by a simple adsorption method and applied into the cyclohexane oxidation. Characterization results demonstrate that the confinement effect of the voids in g-C 3 N 4 facilitates the formation of the single-atom Co, which is stabilized by bonding with the pyridinic nitrogen of g-C 3 N 4 and accompanied by the electron transfer from Co to g-C 3 N 4 . The catalytic performance presents an increasing trend with the increment of the Co loading, and the superior value with the conversion of 23.8% and selectivity of 95.6% is obtained over Co/g-C 3 N 4 -0.9. Kinetic study, density functional theory (DFT) calculations, and characterizations reveal that the decreased activation energy of cyclohexane oxidation over Co/g-C 3 N 4 - w can be attributed to the favorable dissociation activation of O 2 molecules and decomposition of cyclohexylhydroperoxide (CHHP) intermediate on the coordination unsaturated single-atom Co as well as the enhanced adsorption of cyclohexane on the electron-rich g-C 3 N 4 surface, boosting the cyclohexane oxidation following the surface catalytic mechanism. Distinctively, robust Co-N structures and hydrophobic nature of g-C 3 N 4 contribute to the high stability of Co/g-C 3 N 4 -0.9 for cyclohexane oxidation.

Abstract:The development of noble-metal-free heterogeneous catalysts that can realize the aerobic oxidation of C–H bonds at low temperature is a profound challenge in the catalysis community. Here we report the synthesis of a mesoporous Mn 0.5 Ce 0.5 O x solid solution that is highly active for the selective oxidation of hydrocarbons under mild conditions (100–120 °C). Notably, the catalytic performance achieved in the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone/cyclohexanol (100 °C, conversion: 17.7%) is superior to those by the state-of-art commercial catalysts (140–160 °C, conversion: 3-5%). The high activity can be attributed to the formation of a Mn 0.5 Ce 0.5 O x solid solution with an ultrahigh manganese doping concentration in the CeO 2 cubic fluorite lattice, leading to maximum active surface oxygens for the activation of C–H bonds and highly reducible Mn 4+ ions for the rapid migration of oxygen vacancies from the bulk to the surface.
Cycloalkanes oxidation with O 2 in high-efficiency and high-selectivity catalyzed by 3D MOFs with limiting domain and Zn(AcO) 2 through synergistic mode

Abstract:To achieve efficient and selective cycloalkane oxidation, binary catalytic systems had been constructed on the basis of 3D MOFs [Zr 6 O 4 ( μ 3 -OH) 4 (Metalloporphyrin) 2 ( μ 1 -OH) 4 ( μ 1 -H 2 O) 4 ] and Zn(AcO) 2 . MOFs were prepared to construct limiting domains to suppress diffusiveness of free radicals under disorder state, and Zn(AcO) 2 had been employed as synergistic catalysis sites. Catalytic system constructed by PCN-222-d(Co) and Zn(AcO) 2 exhibited excellent catalytic performance. In contrast to T(4-COOCH 3 )PPCo as homogeneous catalyst, an enhancement from 3.83% to 5.51% was obtained from conversion, meanwhile selectivity was increased from 79.9% to 94.4% in cyclohexane oxidation. Primary source of the excellent performance were inhibition of diffusiveness of free radicals under disorder state, and enhancement on C-H bonds oxidation with oxidation intermediate R-OOH catalyzed by Zn(II). Synergistic catalysis process and catalytic mechanism were investigated via controlled experiments, radical trapping, and EPR analyses. This study provides a useful reference for oxidative functionalization of cycloalkanes with O 2 , and a significant contribution for other chemical conversions involving in free radicals.

Outstanding photo-thermo synergy in aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane by bismuth tungstate-bismuth oxychloride high-low heterojunction

Abstract:The difficulty of achieving both high conversion rate and high selectivity is a huge challenge in the catalytic aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane . In this paper, bismuth tungstate-bismuth oxychloride (Bi 2 WO 6 -BiOCl) nanoflower heterojunctions prepared via a one-step solvothermal process were applied in the photo-thermo synergetic catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane in the dried air. With the addition of little water at different reaction temperature, the ratio of bismuth to tungsten and the mass ratio of Bi 2 WO 6 to BiOCl can be precisely tailored in the nanoflower sphere composites with thin nanosheets . Their microscopic morphology, elemental composition, crystal structure, and photoelectrochemical characteristics were explored by different characterization methods. The Bi 2 WO 6 -BiOCl composites possessed poor photocatalytic and thermal performances with the low conversion rates of 1.43% and 2.68%, respectively. However, through the photo-thermo catalytic oxidation process, an exceptional conversion rate of 13.32% was achieved with excellent selectivity of 99.22% for cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol (KA oil) using the same Bi 2 WO 6 -BiOCl composites. This superior performance outstrips Bi 2 WO 6 flowers, BiOCl nanosheets and Bi 2 WO 6 -BiOCl composites with other compounding ratios. The creation of a high-low heterojunction in the Bi 2 WO 6 -BiOCl composite was confirmed by band energy analysis. The opto-electronic analysis, band energy analysis, sacrifice experiments, and active radical analysis were employed to elucidate the mechanism for the exceptional photo-thermo catalytic performance in detail. This work offers an exploratory solution to the challenges of high energy consumption and the difficulty in simultaneously achieving high selectivity and high conversion rates in cyclohexane oxidation, thus holding significant value.

Solution-combustion Synthesized Nano-pellet α-Al2O3 and Catalytic Oxidation of Cyclohexane by Its Supported Cobalt Acetate

Abstract:Nano-pellet α-Al2O3 was prepared using aluminum nitrate as precursor and urea as fuel by a fast method of solution combustion synthesis. The formation of the nano material was dependent on the molar ratio of fuel/oxidant, calcination temperature, and foreign metallic ions. The prerequisite conditions of the formation were a suitable fuel/oxidant molar ratio larger than two and calcination temperature higher than 673 K. Foreign ions, Ce4+ or Co2+, hindered this formation via promoting the generation of stable penta-coordinated Al3+ ions due to strong interaction with alumina, were revealed by 27Al NMR spectra. Such Al3+ ions were recognized as a critical intermediate state for the phase transformation of alumina and their presence deterred the transformation. The nano-pellet morphology of the product demonstrated a specific surface area of 69 m2/g, of which the external surface area occupied 59 m2/g. It was found that the supported cobalt acetate on such nanopellets existed as nanoparticles attached to the external surface, evidenced by the TEM characterization. The prepared catalyst could efficiently catalyze the selective oxidation of cyclohexane under the reaction condition of pressure under 0.8 MPa, temperature at 373 K, and time for 4 hours. The conversion of the reaction achieved up to 7.9%; while the cyclohexanone selectivity was 42.7% and the cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol selectivity was 91.6%. This catalytic performance recommends the supported cobalt acetate on the inert nano-pellet α-Al2O3 as a promising catalyst for the selective oxidation of cyclohexane.

Single‐Atom Titanium on Mesoporous Nitrogen, Oxygen‐Doped Carbon for Efficient Photo‐thermal Catalytic CO2 Cycloaddition by a Radical Mechanism

Abstract:Developing efficient and earth-abundant catalysts for CO2 fixation to high value-added chemicals is meaningful but challenging. Styrene carbonate has great market value, but the cycloaddition of CO2 to styrene oxide is difficult due to the high steric hindrance and weak electron-withdrawing ability of the phenyl group. To utilize clean energy (such as optical energy) directly and effectively for CO2 value-added process, we introduce earth-abundant Ti single-atom into the mesoporous nitrogen, oxygen-doped carbon nanosheets (Ti-CNO) by a two-step method. The Ti-CNO exhibits excellent photothermal catalytic activities and stability for cycloaddition of CO2 and styrene oxide to styrene carbonate. Under light irradiation and ambient pressure, an optimal Ti-CNO produces styrene carbonate with a yield of 98.3%, much higher than CN (27.1%). In addition, it shows remarkable stability during 10 consecutive cycles. Its enhanced catalytic performance stems from the enhanced photothermal effect and improved Lewis acidic/basic sites exposed by the abundant mesopores. The experiments and theoretical simulations demonstrate the styrene oxide•+ and CO2•- radicals generated at the Lewis acidic (Tiδ+) and basic sites of Ti-CNO under light irradiation, respectively. This work furnishes a strategy for synthesizing advanced single-atom catalysts for photo-thermal synergistic CO2 fixation to high value products via a cycloaddition pathway.

Abstract:<p class="a-plus-plus">Selective aerobic oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol (KA oil) with high yield under mild and green conditions is still a significant challenge in the current chemical industry. Herein, nitrogen doped graphene loaded non-noble Co (Co-N-rGO) catalysts, prepared by a facile post-impregnation method, exhibited a high catalytic performance and stability in liquid phase cyclohexane oxidation with molecular oxygen. The experiment and characterization results show that N doping in the catalysts promotes Co metal particle dispersion and induces carbon film coating on Co to prevent leaching and agglomeration. Besides, density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that N doping is beneficial to the O-O bonds breaking in cyclohexyl-hydroperoxides (CHHP), thereby promoting the dissociation of CHHP and enhancing the yield to KA oil. In addition, the catalyst can be easily separated without appreciable loss of catalytic activity after recycling for five times, and show potential industrial application value for the catalytic oxidation of cyclohexane to KA oil in the chemical industry.</p>

Abstract:The selective oxidation of C-H bonds in saturated hydrocarbons at low temperature with noble-metal-free heterogeneous catalysts is a profound challenge for the catalysis community. Here we report the facile synthesis of Ce1-xCrxO2- (x=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4) nanocrystals through a low-temperature hydrothermal method. The catalytic activity of the as-prepared catalysts was evaluated in the selective oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone/cyclohexanol using H2O2 as an oxidant at room temperature and 45 degrees C. The activity results were correlated with their phase structure, composition, surface areas, and surface element states with the help of X-ray diffraction, N-2 adsorption, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and UV/Vis spectroscopy. It was found that these Ce0.7Cr0.3O2- nanocrystals are highly active for the selective oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanone/cyclohexanol using H2O2 as an oxidant at low temperature. In the presence of H2O2 at 45 degrees C for 5h using Ce0.7Cr0.3O2- as a catalyst, the conversion of cyclohexane reaches 50.3% and the total selectivity of cyclohexanol/cyclohexanone is 94.4% with relative good reversibility for at least four cycles. Mechanistic investigation results show that the high activity can be attributed to the high Cr6+ content in the Ce1-xCrxO2- solid solutions and the formation of highly oxidative intermediates with H2O2.
Greenery-Inspired Nanoengineering of Bamboo-Like Hierarchical Porous Nanotubes with Spatially Organized Bifunctionalities for Synergistic Photothermal Catalytic CO2 Fixation

Abstract:The fixation of CO 2 and epoxides into cyclic carbonates is a promising strategy for the resourceful use of CO 2 . However, halogen-based homogeneous co-catalysts are usually required for synergistic catalysis in most heterogeneous catalytic systems, which complicates the process of product separation and purification. Furthermore, CO 2 cycloaddition usually requires heating to drive the reaction, making it a highly energy-consuming catalytic process. Herein, the hyper-cross-linked mesoporous poly (ionic liquid)s and nickel-based bamboo-like N-doped carbon nanotubes are spatially organized to construct a synergistic photothermal catalytic system for CO 2 cycloaddition (denoted as Ni-BNCNTs@HMPs-NH 2 ). The integrated bifunctional catalyst Ni-BNCNTs@HMPs-NH 2 exhibits superior activity and stability for the conversion of CO 2 to cyclic carbonates under mild and co-catalyst/solvent-free conditions. Specifically, when the light intensity is 0.4 W/cm 2 , the reaction temperature can reach 74.2 °C, the yield is 99%, and there is no significant activity loss after 10 cycles of catalysis. Various characterizations illustrate that atomically dispersed Ni-N-C sites and imidazolium-based poly (ionic liquid)s in the Ni-BNCNTs@HMPs-NH 2 can act as Lewis acid sites and nucleophiles for synergistic catalytic CO 2 cycloaddition, respectively. In addition, under light irradiation, bamboo-like carbon nanotubes and plasmonic Ni nanoparticles facilitate the photothermal conversion, and semiconductor Ni-N-C generates photogenerated electrons as well as accelerates the rate-limiting step of the CO 2 cycloaddition. This work provides insights into low-energy photothermal-driven catalytic CO 2 conversion.

Abstract:Cyclohexane oxidation is an industrial process for manufacturing cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone and adipic acid, while it remains a huge challenge to develop highly efficient catalysts for intensifying this process. Herein, a bottom-up synthesis approach, coupling the one-pot and ion exchange strategy, is developed to fabricate atomically dispersed Co on graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) for the aerobic cyclohexane oxidation. The loading of the single-atom Co on Co/g-C3N4 can be facilely tuned by adjusting the ion exchange extent of Na + on Na/g-C3N4 precursor. Comprehensive characterizations demonstrate the atomical location of Co in sixfold cavities of g-C3N4, accompanied by the electron interaction between Co atoms and g-C3N4. The resulting Co/g–C3N4–1 catalyst possesses the superior oxidation performance with the 28.8 % cyclohexane conversion and 93.0 % overall selectivity toward desired products, and it also exhibits an acceptable universality to the catalytic oxidation of various hydrocarbons. The mechanism study revealed that besides the dissociation of O2 molecules on single-atom Co sites, the electron-rich g-C3N4 surface stemming from atomic Co doping facilitated the cyclohexane adsorption, which synergically boosted the subsequent oxidation reaction following the surface catalytic mechanism. We anticipate that such a concept of fabricating atomically dispersed metals via the ion exchange strategy provides a novel insight and feasible approach for the design of highly efficient single-atom catalysts for the cyclohexane oxidation and beyond.

Abstract:It is urgent to develop an efficient and stable non-noble metal catalyst for selective C-H bond oxidation of cyclohexane. Herein, a series of V-W oxides supported on TiO2 catalysts (V-W/TiO2) were fabricated. The V-W/TiO2 catalysts exhibited much higher catalytic activity for the selective oxidation of cyclohexane to KA oil, compared to that of V/TiO2 and W/TiO2 catalysts. The good distribution of active metals and the synergistic effect were responsible for the enhanced catalytic activity. H2-TPR results disclosed that the presence of V in V-W/TiO2 affected the reducibility of W6+ species, and XPS verified that an electronic interaction was formed between them. Such results led to good catalytic reusability of V-W/TiO2 catalyst during the reactions, and no obvious activity loss was found after six runs. The reaction mechanism was investigated, and the results verified that hydroxyl radicals generated from H2O2 homolysis were the main active oxidative species. Theoretical study revealed that V dopant could regulate electronic structure of adjacent O atom, facilitating the adsorption of cyclohexane, and lower energy was needed for the rate-limiting step over V-W/TiO2 during the whole oxidation reaction. This work developed an efficient V-W/TiO2 catalyst for the selective oxidation of cyclohexane via a synergistic effect.

Abstract:The exploration of cost-efficient, environmentally friendly, and high-efficacy photocatalysts for the enhanced selective photooxidation of cyclohexane to KA oil (cyclohexanone (CHA-one) and cyclohexanol (CHA-ol)) is a pivotal challenge in the industrial realm. Herein, the present study focuses on the synthesis of needle-like S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts with oxygen vacancies, which are achieved by the needle growth integration of nano-sized Nb 2 O 5 particles onto the BiOCl nanosheets. Remarkably, the 40 % Nb 2 O 5 /BiOCl composites exhibited superior performance in the solvent-free photooxidation of cyclohexane at room-temperature and under atmospheric pressure. The production yield of KA oil was 180.3 μmol (CHA-one/CHA-ol molar ratio = 3.5), and exceptional selectivity towards KA oil, reaching up to 99.3 %. The enhanced photocatalytic efficiency in cyclohexane oxidation can be attributed to the unique S-scheme heterogeneous interfaces with specific nanoneedle morphology, which result in the enhanced photonic absorption, effective charge carrier separation, a high density of oxygen vacancies, and the exposure of the highly reactive (001) plane of BiOCl. The excellent interfacial charge separation and transfer pathways of S-scheme heterojunction are disclosed by the in-depth EPR analysis and DFT calculations. These insights highlight the significant potential of the needle-like Bi-based S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for the efficient photooxidation of saturated alkanes.
