Abstract:Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) were synthesized using a rapid, eco-friendly, cost-effective, efficient, and biological method employing aqueous Agaricus bisporus extract as a capping and reducing agent. The formation of CuONPs was checked by UV-vis spectroscopy and was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), dynamic light scattering spectroscopy (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and surface area and porosimetry analyzer. The characterization results showed that the synthesized nanoparticles had a spherical-like appearance and a crystal structure with 40-100 nm particle size. The green synthesized CuONPs were found to be an excellent and sustainable heterogeneous catalyst (TOF up to 29700 h-1 ) for the Suzuki C-C coupling of aryl halides with phenylboronic acid in a very short reaction time (10 minutes). Moreover, the easily recovered catalyst can be reused five times with just a negligible reduction in catalytic behavior.

Abstract:A homogeneously dispersed graphene oxide supported palladium nanomaterial (Pd@GO) has been successfully synthesized and used as a catalyst in cross-coupling reactions at room temperature. Various analytical techniques such as X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) were used to characterize the monodisperse Pd@GO. Monodisperse Pd@GO nanomaterials were used for the cross-coupling reactions which brought together organic molecules with functional significance. This catalyst showed superior catalytic activity and stability for these coupling reactions. High product yields, short reaction times and mild reaction conditions, obtained by the using of developed catalysts. Importantly, the catalyst can be used at least five experiments successfully without losing its efficiency.

Abstract:This study focuses on utilizing copper‐modified graphene oxide nanosheets as a cathode for the electro‐oxidation synthesis of mild Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling reactions. The research emphasizes environmentally conscious and sustainable conditions for electrochemical processes. By exploring copper‐modified graphene oxide as a catalyst, the study aims to enhance catalytic efficiency, offering insights into eco‐friendly approaches for cross‐coupling reactions in organic synthesis. This study presents an eco‐conscious approach to enhance the efficiency of the Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling reaction. We first synthesized graphene oxide nanosheets using the Hummers method and then coated them to incorporate metallic copper on their surface. Following this, we conducted various analyses, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT‐IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (EDS) identification, to characterize these modified nanosheets. Subsequently, we utilized Cu‐modified graphene oxide nanosheets as cathode catalysts in an electro‐oxidation synthesis setup. To verify the effectiveness of this novel approach, we utilized bromobenzene and phenylboronic acid as model substrates to synthesize biphenyl compounds. The reaction yielded impressive product yields ranging from 87% to 93%. Operating under environmentally friendly conditions, this electro‐oxidation synthesis not only enhances selectivity but also significantly reduces the environmental impact of the reaction. Our findings highlight the potential of this green chemistry strategy, offering a promising avenue for sustainable and efficient organic synthesis, as evidenced by the successful coupling of bromobenzene and phenylboronic acid with consistently high yields.

Abstract:Ultrafine Ag-Pd bimetallic nanoparticles homogeneously distributed on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) were prepared by redox reactions between Pd2+, Ag+ and GO. This method is simple, and the use of rGO as a support facilitated the separation and reuse of the Ag-Pd@rGO catalyst. The Ag-Pd@rGO bimetallic nanoparticles were characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The microstructure of the Ag-Pd@rGO was investigated with scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The Ag-Pd@rGO catalyst exhibited high catalytic activities in the Suzuki-Miyaura carbon coupling reaction and the Sonogashira carbon coupling (SCC) reaction. These reactions used mild, efficient, ligand-free and heterogeneous conditions. Interestingly, the presence or absence of oxygen in the SCC catalytic system resulted in two different products, in which oxygen can be used as "switch" to control different products.

Abstract:Suzuki coupling is a widely used, well-studied and versatile method in synthetic chemistry for development of C–C bonds where palladium-based catalysts have been used extensively in the reaction to date. We report a Suzuki-cross-coupling reaction for C–C bonds formation between aryl halides and phenylboronic acid by using Metal/metal oxide@Reduced graphene oxide nanocomposites being efficient, simple and cost-effective. In this work, plant mediated synthesis of silver, gold and zirconia nanoparticles doped Reduced Graphene Oxide nanocomposites is reported where 30 mg of each of the catalysts resulted in C-C bond formation achieving percentage yield comparable to palladium-based catalyst used as standard in series of reactions, attaining highest yield with silver based catalyst. The catalysts demonstrated high catalytic activity over four cycles of recycling with no loss. Bromoaryl and phenylboronic acid are coupled together by the increased surface area of the reduced graphene oxide substrate, which also exhibits enhanced reactivity toward other chemical reactions. XRD, FTIR and UV-VIS analyses were used to describe the synthesized catalyst. Using the devised technique, various substituted aryl halides have been used successfully with modest to high yields of the desired biphenyls.

Abstract:The study reports on the synthesis and characterization of palladium-Isatin-Schiff base complex supported on graphene oxide (Pd-Isatin-Schiff base@rGO), as well as its application in the Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction. The catalyst was easily prepared by a simple method through modification of GO with (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES) as a linker. The reaction of free amine groups with isatin allowed the synthesis of Isatin-Schiff base@rGO. The subsequent complexation/immobilization of palladium provided the Pd-Isatin-Schiff base@rGO nanocomposite with a Pd(II) to Pd(0) ratio=1.17. The prepared Pd-Isatin-Schiff base@rGO nanocomposite was fully characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), CHN elemental analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) to establish its structure and composition. This heterogeneous nanocomposite catalyst was found very efficient for the cross-coupling reaction of an alkyne and an aryl halide, generating a high yield of coupling products (80-95%) after 1 h. A reusability study revealed that the Pd-Isatin-Schiff base@rGO composite could be recycled for six consequent cycles without significant loss of its activity. However, after six cycles, the yield of 1,2-diphenylethyne as the coupling product decreased slightly from 93% to 85% and a decrease 8 wt.% in the Pd content was observed using ICP analysis.

Abstract:We developed a single‐pot solvothermal synthetic approach to synthesizing Pd‐Fe3O4@GO. It is a simple, effective, magnetically separable, eco‐friendly, and recyclable catalyst. The synthesized catalyst Pd‐Fe3O4@GO was thoroughly characterized using FTIR, XPS, XRD, SEM‐EDS mapping, TEM, and ICP‐MS. The synthesized catalyst was used in the Sonogashira cross‐coupling reaction between substituted aryl halide and phenylacetylene to form carbon–carbon bonds. In this study, we present a new approach to synthesizing a magnetically separable Pd‐Fe3O4@GO catalyst using a simple single‐pot method. The catalyst was employed in Sonogashira coupling reactions, demonstrating excellent results. The catalyst was studied using a various characterization method, including X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscope–energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (SEM‐EDS) mapping, TEM, X‐ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP‐MS). Pd‐Fe3O4@GO exhibited superior catalytic activity compared with its conventional counterparts in phenylacetylene‐iodobenzene coupling reactions under copper co‐catalyzed‐free and ligand‐free conditions, with a higher turnover frequency (TOF) of 118.3 h−1. Optimized conditions yielded high yields for various substrates, including inactive aryl chloride and bromide substrates, emphasizing its versatility. Also, a reaction mechanism was proposed and a kinetic model was developed. The catalyst's green chemistry potential was highlighted because of its high efficiency, purity of products, recoverability, and ease of preparation. Moreover, Pd‐Fe3O4@GO demonstrated impressive stability through multiple recycling rounds without loss of functionality, making it a promising tool for sustainable chemical processes.

Abstract:A hybrid composite based on π-electron rich reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and mesoporous silica (rGO-SiO 2 ) was prepared and decorated with copper species to afford a ternary nanocomposite material (Cu-CuO@rGO-SiO 2 ). This copper-based nanocomposite was successfully used as a robust and multi-task heterogeneous catalyst for most common cross-coupling reactions (e.g. C–S, C–O and C–N couplings). Broad range of catalytic activities is believed to be originated from the synergism of co-existed different copper species (Cu(0) and CuO) and facile charge transfer from the metal ions towards the rGO-SiO 2 matrices, as established from XPS and other studies.

Abstract:In this study, we report the green preparation of magnetically separable Ag/Fe 3 O 4 /rGO nanocomposites using mangrove tree aerial root extract as a stabilising agent. The morphology, size, chemical composition, magnetic property and other characteristic parameters of synthesised Ag/Fe 3 O 4 /rGO nanocomposite were determined by analytical techniques like Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The results proved that mangrove tree aerial root extract has the ability to reduce Ag + ions, graphene oxide (GO) to Ag nanoparticle and reduced graphene oxide (rGO), respectively. The prepared Ag/Fe 3 O 4 /rGO nanocomposite was used successfully as a prompt catalyst for synthesis of 7-phenyl-6H,7H-benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-b]chromeno[4,3-d][1,3]thiazin-6-one derivatives by one-pot multi-component reaction of 4-hydroxycoumarin (10 mmol), 2-mercaptobenzimidazole (10 mmol) and different arylaldehyde (10 mmol) in the presence of ethanol (10 ml) as an eco-benign solvent at reflux condition. By utilising this protocol, we have constructed 7-phenyl-6H,7H-benzo[4,5]imidazo[2,1-b]chromeno[4,3-d][1,3]thiazin-6-one derivatives in good to excellent yield of 80–90%. This synthesis involves the formation of C–C, C–N and C–S bonds. The synthesised organic heterocyclic compounds were examined for the green matrix properties such as atom economy (AE), E-factor and product mass intensity (PMI). This green protocol is of big interest due to employing simple, non-toxic heterogeneous, separable, reusable Ag/Fe 3 O 4 /rGO as an eco-safe heterogeneous catalyst and environmentally benign ethanol as a green solvent without the use of any harmful mineral acid and toxic transition metal catalyst.

Abstract:The design and development of low cost and sustainable catalytic system to replace expensive Pd-catalysts for Suzuki cross-coupling reaction is one of the major challenging areas of research in synthetic organic chemistry. The cross-coupling reactions with good yield in the presence of Cu-based monometallic catalyst at room temperature have not been realized in previous works. We herein report the fabrication of a novel "single-atom" Cu catalyst (Cu-TAPB-BTDA-COF) for Suzuki-coupling reaction at room temperature. The catalyst was obtained by post-synthetic metalation of the COF, synthesized by the combination of 4,4′-(benzothiadiazole-4,7-diyl)dibenzaldehyde (BTDA) and 1,3,5-tris-(4-aminophenyl)-benzene (TAPB). Cu-TAPB-BTDA-COF shows excellent catalytic activity for Suzuki cross-coupling reaction, which is able to effectively promote Suzuki cross-coupling reaction under the mild reaction conditions (room temperature, a non-toxic solvent and air atmosphere). In addition, the catalyst could be recycled and reused multiple times without the loss of catalytic activity. Compared with other Cu-based catalysts, our COF-based Cu catalyst manifests excellent performance and recyclability simultaneously

Abstract:Graphene is an important phase of carbon, which is easily available and oxidable to graphene oxide with a variety of applications. Therefore in this work, graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized, and further it was magnetized by nickel magnetic nanoparticles. The surface of graphene oxide magnetic nanoparticles (Ni-GO MNPs) was modified with (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (APTES). On the other hand, (3,4-bis(−(2-hydroxybenzylidene)amino)phenyl)(phenyl)methanone Schiff-base ligand (bis(HBAPM)) was synthesized using condensation of salicylaldehyde and 3,4-diaminobenzophenone. In the next step, bis(HBAPM) was immobilized on the surface of modified Ni-GO MNPs toward synthesis of immobilized Schiff-base on Ni-GO MNPs (bis(HBAPM)@Ni-GO MNPs) as a heterogeneous Schiff-base ligand. In the final step, the gadolinium catalyst was stabilized on its surface (Gd-bis(HBAPM)@Ni-GO MNPs) as a robust, reusable, efficient, chemoselective, and novel nanocatalyst. Gd-bis(HBAPM)@Ni-GO MNPs were characterized by nitrogen adsorption/desorption, FT-IR, SEM imaging, EDS analysis, WDX analysis, XRD, and VSM analysis. After the characterization of Gd-bis(HBAPM)@Ni-GO MNPs, its catalytic performance was employed as a highly practical, retrievable, stable, and hybrid organic–inorganic catalyst in the carbon–carbon coupling of the Suzuki reaction. Due to the recoverability and heterogeneous nature of Gd-bis(HBAPM)@Ni-GO MNPs, it can recycled again for 5 runs.

Abstract:To explore high efficiency of the Suzuki-Miyaura reactions, an easily prepared heterogeous palladium precatalysts bearing sterically bulky α-diimine was covalently supported on graphene oxide (GO). The characterization of supported palladium complex was discussed in detail. A simple and efficient protocol for Pd-catalyzed cross coupling was described, which revealed that the bulky α-diimine ligand is crucial to promote the CAr-CAr transformation. This immobilized system provides a straightforward access to a wide range of aryl bromides with excellent functional groups tolerance.

Abstract:We report the synthesis of inexpensive and environmentally benign cobalt(0) nanoparticles on L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-dopa) functionalized and magnetite (Fe3O4) grafted graphene oxide (Co@GO/Fe3O4/L-dopa) which was fully characterized with different techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HR-TEM), X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM), Carbon Hydrogen Nitrogen (CHN) analysis, Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Graphene oxide was used as the core material due to its mechanical, electrical and thermal properties. In order to avoid the cumbersome process of separation, magnetite nanoparticles were coated over the graphene oxide. After the successful preparation of graphene oxide based magnetic nanoparticles, L-dopa was grafted over Fe3O4 nanoparticles so as to provide firm anchoring agent for cobalt nanoparticles. Finally, cobalt(0) nanoparticles were immobilized on the developed magnetic support. The catalytic efficiency of the synthesized catalyst was tested for Suzuki cross-coupling and oxidation reactions, usually carried out by precious and expensive second and third row transition metals; products were obtained in good to excellent yields. The synthesized catalyst represents an attractive alternative to conventional catalysts for Suzuki cross-coupling and oxidation reactions, and is recyclable up to five runs.

Abstract:A facile, green, economical approach was designed to deposit palladium nanoparticles on magnetic reduced graphene oxide nanosheets (Pd-Fe3O4/rGO) via a one-pot hydrothermal synthesis method. The prepared Pd-Fe3O4/rGO nanocomposites were thoroughly characterized by Transmission electron microscopy, Scanning electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy. Importantly, the highly efficient catalytic property of the as-obtained Pd-Fe3O4/rGO catalyst was demonstrated for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reaction and Mizoroki-Heck coupling reaction. Significantly, the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions could be efficiently performed in an environmentally friendly aqueous solution with no need for further additives. Besides, the nanocomposites could be conveniently separated from reaction system with an external permanent magnet for recycling and the inherent catalytic activity of the nanocomposites did not exacerbate after six repeated applications.

Abstract:The applications of graphene-based materials in catalysis are limited by their strong tendency to aggregate, which may lead to a decrease in active sites. Herein, we propose a facile and controllable strategy to fabricate a series of heterogeneous catalysts with a unique nanostructure wherein CuO x -decorated reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets are incorporated into a solid matrix composed of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). The resultant materials are self-supported films and could be directly used as catalysts for the liquid-phase oxidation of styrene without the requirement for extra substrates. The employment of PVP-CMC (PC) as the support for CuO x -decorated rGO sheets successfully inhibits their aggregation. Benefiting from the dispersion of copper species, these films exhibit good catalytic activity and recyclability under mild reaction conditions. Especially, they can be conveniently removed from the reaction mixture by tweezers due to their structural stability. For catalyzing multiple reactions with high efficiency and facile recyclability, this study offers a universal strategy to design heterogeneous catalysts based on graphene materials and provides a promising platform.

Abstract:An easy, one-step synthesis of Cu2O-reduced graphene composites (Cu2O-rGO) was developed using a simple sonochemical route without any surfactants or templates. The morphology and structure of the Cu2O-rGO composites were characterised using techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The results indicated that the Cu2O sphere is approximately 200 nm in diameter and composed of small Cu2O particles approximately 20 nm in diameter. The morphology and composition of the Cu2O-rGO composites could be well controlled by simply changing the mole ratio of the reactants under ultrasonic irradiation. The Cu2O-rGO composites displayed better photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) than pure Cu2O spheres, which may have potential applications in water treatment, sensors, and energy storage. Abstract:Multifaceted Fe3O4‐Pd@rGO nanocomposite (NC) has been synthesized successfully by a biogenic method using Ocimum tenuiflorum leaf extract. It was a stable and highly efficient magnetically separable catalyst for Beckmann rearrangement of aldoximes under an environment‐friendly medium. It afforded up to 99% isolated yield of the preferred products under acid‐free condition, avoiding the use of any harsh chemicals, which will be beneficial for future industrial applications. The multifaceted Fe3O4‐Pd@rGO nanocomposite (NC) has been synthesized successfully by a biogenic method using Ocimum tenuiflorum leaf extract. The preparation of graphene oxide (GO) was done by the well‐known modified Hummer method. The as‐synthesized Fe3O4‐Pd@rGO NC was extensively characterized by various analytical techniques, namely, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy‐energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy (FESEM‐EDX), high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), inductively coupled plasma‐atomic emission spectrometry (ICP‐AES), X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area analysis. The absence of peak corresponding to υ(CO) at 1732 cm−1 in the FTIR spectrum of Fe3O4‐Pd@rGO enumerates the reduction of GO to reduced graphene oxide (rGO) during Fe3O4‐Pd nanoparticle (NP) synthesis with O. tenuiflorum leaf extract. The XRD pattern reveals the existence of rGO, cubic‐phased spinel‐structured Fe3O4 along with the formation of metallic Pd NP without any impurities. The FESEM image designates the spherical and flake‐like morphology of the NC. The crystallite size of the NC was calculated employing the Debye–Scherrer equation and was found to be 3.45 nm corresponding to the (220) plane. The average particle size of Fe3O4‐Pd NPs as estimated from the particle size distribution curve was ascertained as 3.03 nm. The utmost saturation magnetization value of the NC as evaluated by VSM study has appeared at 0.6219 emu g−1 having coercivity value of 335.1 Oe and remanent magnetization value of 0.0767 emu g−1, suggesting the existence of a ferromagnetic material in the synthesized NC. It was a stable and highly efficient catalyst for Beckmann rearrangement of aldoximes using in an environment‐friendly medium. It afforded up to 99% isolated yield of the preferred products under acid‐free condition, avoiding the use of any harsh chemicals that will be beneficial for future industrial applications. Finally, the magnetic component of the NC allowed for easy recovery of the catalyst, thereby eliminating the chance of leaching of metal atoms, and was reusable till six successive cycles without apparent loss of its catalytic performance.

GOQDs and GOQDs-NS-doped Carbocatalysts: A Concise Study on Production and Use in One-pot Green MCRs

Abstract:Introduction: Nowadays, the catalysts' usage in chemical reactions is unavoidable, and this has led scientists to look for producing and using catalysts which not only cause pollution and toxicity in the reactions and products, but also generate economical benefits. Aims: Our goal in this paper is to produce a fully biocompatible, non-toxic and inexpensive carbocatalyst with a graphene oxide structure for use in multi-component reactions as a heterogeneous catalyst. Methods: The research has been carried out to simplify the method of preparing carbocatalysts. In this article, we heated citric acid and thiourea in the simple bottom-up method in which nitrogen and sulfur were atomically inserted into a carbon-carbon bond of graphene oxide. Results: The results have been obtained by comparing graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) and functional graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) and functional nitrogen and sulfur-doped graphene oxide quantum dots (NS-doped-GOQDS) using the produced carbocatalyst in the synthesis of spiro indoline pyrano pyrazoles and highly substituted pyridine derivatives with chemical and pharmacological properties. Conclusion: A simple and affordable bottom-up method has been developed to synthesize fluorescent NS-doped-GOQDS by the condensation of CA in the presence of thiourea with water elimination at 185 ℃. After the production of NS-doped-GOQDS, the carbocatalyst is used in the synthesis of spiro[indoline-3,4'-pyrano [2, 3-c]pyrazole] derivatives in four-component reactions and pyridine derivatives in five-component reactions.
Synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity of rGO supported novel hybrid materials for green fuel production

Abstract:In the present study, reduced graphene oxide metal composites were synthesized using hydrothermal method for the purpose of green and efficient oxidative desulfurization for the removal of Sulfur content from fuel. The physiochemical characterization of amalgamated material was confirmed by powdered X-ray diffraction (P-XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The XRD results clearly show that metals hybrids have been successfully doped over the surface of rGO having 15.61 nm, 19.03 nm, 27.98 nm, 28.89 nm and 24.37 nm crystallite size for NiO, rGO, ZnNiO@rGO, CuNiO@rGO and CoNiO@rGO respectively. Novel catalysts were checked against both model fuel (500 ppm DBT) and actual fuel (kerosene also called as paraffin oil and petro-diesel) by radical initiator mechanism of ODS. Excellent ODS activity was examined using 0.1g catalyst, 1ml H2O2, 100 ppm DBT at 40°C for 180 min. The dependence of efficiency rate with various factors of time, DBT concentration, amount of catalyst and oxidant and temperature was also studied. The whole mechanism follows pseudo first order reaction with a minimum requirement of energy of 1.491 kJ/mol to start a reaction for prepared materials. Novel catalysts show remarkable reusability up to 5 times that subsidizes to the economic permanency of reaction system.
