Abstract:Organic additives with amino moieties are effective in improving the properties of archetypical formamidinium (FA)-based hybrid perovskites for photovoltaic and light-emitting applications. However, a detailed understanding of how amino additives affect the perovskite materials is lacking, impeding developments in this area. Here, by investigating the interactions of lead bromide perovskite precursors with phenethylamine (PEA) and its derivatives with small variations in chemical structure, we reveal that only the secondary amine (N-methyl-2-phenylethylamine (N-PEA)) results in strengthened hydrogen bonds with FABr in precursor solutions, allowing the formation of high-quality perovskite films. The photoluminescence quantum efficiencies (PLQEs) of the resultant perovskite samples on widely used charge-transport substrates are retained to 82% of their original values, indicating reduced sensitivity to interfacial nonradiative traps critical to device applications. Using a standard device structure, green perovskite light-emitting diodes with peak external quantum efficiencies of 12.7% at ∼500 cd m-2 and operational lifetimes (T50) exceeding 10 h (at 100 cd m-2) are obtained.
Highly Efficient White-Light Emission Induced by Carboxylic Acid Dimers in a Layered Hybrid Perovskite

Abstract:Broadband white-light emission in metal halides has been intensely explored because of their facile solution processability, structural adjustability, and high color rendering index. However, the most reported quantum yields for white-light emission remain low despite great efforts. Herein, we report a metal-halide layered perovskite, (HOOC4H9NH3)(2)PbBr4, showing the typical white-light emission with a highly enhan ced quantumyield up to 21.2% compared to previously reported noncarboxyl layered hybrid perovskites (0.5-9%). Notably, mechanistic studies reveal that the distinctive carboxylic acid dimers largely increase the structure rigidity and in consequence reduce the non-radiative recombination induced by stretching vibration. To the best of our knowledge, this strategy is important in hybrid perovskites, which is effective and propagable to acquire prominent photoluminescence. This work will shed light on the design of highly emissive white-light materials involving intense intermolecular interaction and promote their potential in displaying application. [GRAPHICS] .

Abstract:The practical application of CsPbX3 perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) in white light‐emitting diodes is impeded by low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and especially poor stability due to the lack of in situ and universal strategy. This issue is addressed by employing operando multidentate ligand engineering, which enables CsPbX3 PeQDs near‐unit PLQY and significantly improved stability against storage, heat, and polar solvent. Inorganic CsPbX3 perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) show great potential in white light‐emitting diodes (WLEDs) due to excellent optoelectronic properties, but their practical application is hampered by low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and especially poor stability. Herein, we developed an in‐situ and general multidentate ligand passivation strategy that allows for CsPbX3 PeQDs not only near‐unit PLQY, but significantly improved stability against storage, heat, and polar solvent. The enhanced optical property arises from high effectiveness of the multidentate ligand, diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) with five carboxyl groups, in passivating uncoordinated Pb2+ defects and suppressing nonradiative recombination. First‐principles calculations reveal that the excellent stability is attributed to tridentate binding mode of DTPA that remarkably boosts the adsorption capacity to PeQD core. Finally, combining the green and red PeQDs with blue chip, we demonstrated highly luminous WLEDs with distinctly enhanced operation stability, a wide color gamut of 121.3% of national television system committee, standard white light of (0.33,0.33) in CIE 1931, and tunable color temperatures from warm to cold white light readily by emitters' ratio. This study provides an operando yet general approach to achieve efficient and stable PeQDs for WLEDs and accelerates their progress to commercialization.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) have sparked extensive research focus on white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs), but stability and photoluminescence efficiency issues are still remain obstacles impeding their practical application. Here, we reported a facile one-step method to synthesize CsPbBr3 PeQDs at room temperature using branched didodecyldimethylammonium fluoride (DDAF) and short-chain-length octanoic acid as capping ligands. The obtained CsPbBr3 PeQDs have a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield of 97% due to the effective passivation of DDAF. More importantly, they exhibit much improved stability against air, heat, and polar solvents, maintaining >70% of initial PL intensity. Making use of these excellent optoelectronic properties, WLEDs based on CsPbBr3 PeQDs, CsPbBr1.2I1.8 PeQDs, and blue LEDs were fabricated, which show a color gamut of 122.7% of the National Television System Committee standard, a luminous efficacy of 17.1 lm/W, with a color temperature of 5890 K, and CIE coordinates of (0.32, 0.35). These results indicate that the CsPbBr3 PeQDs have great practical potential in wide-color-gamut displays.

Abstract:All-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (PeQDs) have aroused great research interest in white light-emitting diodes (WLED) due to their excellent optoelectronic properties, but the poor stability, caused by dynamically binding long-chain capping ligands, hinders their future practical applications. To address this issue, here, we exploit short-chain butyric acid (BA) to replace long-chain oleic acid (OA) as capping ligand of CsPbX3 PeQDs by a hot-injection method. The addition of BA not only makes the morphology of CsPbBr3 PeQDs uniform and improves the crystallinity but also effectively suppresses nonradiative recombination, achieving a near unit photoluminescence quantum yield of 96%. The BA capped CsPbBr3 PeQDs exhibit high stability up to 180 d stored in ambient environment and also significantly improved resistance against polar solvent, ultra-violet lamp irradiation, and heat, which is rationalized by the strong binding capacity and shortened distance of BA to the PeQDs through ab initio calculations. Furthermore, by combining green-emission CsPbBr3 and red-emission CsPbBr0.8I2.2 PeQDs with blue GaN chip, we achieved WLEDs with excellent luminous properties, showing their great potential in practical application of wide-color-gamut display and lighting.

Abstract:Inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) show promising application in the field of optoelectronic devices. However, the poor stability and low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) have been a huge hurdle for practical applications. Ligand engineering strategy was proven to be an effective way to improve the stability and PLQY. Herein, we utilize a multidentate ligand of Boc-D-Glutamic acid (BDGA) to treat the perovskite NCs, enabling exceptional quantum yield approaching 100% and superior colloidal stability (about 10% reduction after 60 days storage at ambient conditions), as well as greatly enhanced resistance to thermal treatment and UV irradiation which can be ascribed to the surface defect passivation and an efficient ligand exchange with robust affinity and/or compensation. Besides, the as-fabricated white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) exhibits a high luminous efficiency of 93.5 lm/W and a wide color gamut (128% of the National Television System Committee and 95% Rec. 2020). This work provides a facile route to realize high PLYQ and improve the challenging stability issue in perovskite NCs.

Abstract:In this study, all-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) for pure blue emission are explored for full-color displays. We prepared CsPbBr3 and Cs3NdCl6 QDs via hot injection methods and mixed in various ratios at room temperature for color blending. Nd-doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs showed a blueshift in emission, and the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY, ΦPL) were lower in the 460–470 nm range due to surface halogen and Cs vacancies. To address this, we introduced a silane molecule, APTMS, via a ligand exchange process, effectively repairing these vacancies and enhancing Nd doping into the lattice. This modification promotes the PLQY to 94% at 466 nm. Furthermore, combining these QDs with [1]Benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (BTBT), a conjugated small-molecule semiconductor, in a composite film reduced PLQY loss caused by FRET in solid-state QD films. This approach achieved a wide color gamut of 124% National Television System Committee (NTSC), using a UV LED backlight and RGB perovskite QDs in a BTBT-based organic matrix as the color conversion layer. Significantly, the photostability of this composite was enhanced when used as a color conversion layer (CCL) under blue-LED excitation.

Abstract:The facile approach combined the halide mixture of chloride and bromide anions with the exchange of shortchain ligand Phenethylamine (PEA) was used to prepare hybrid perovskite PEA-MAPbBr3-xClx quantum dots (PEA-QDs-Cl), which realized blue emissive quantum dots light-emitting diode (QLED) with wider gamut of Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage (CIE) coordinates (Delta x = -0.04, Delta y = 0.03) than National Television Systems Committee (NTSC) TV color standard. Compared to pristine MAPbBr3 quantum dots (pristine-QDs) prepared by conventional long-chain ligands, the size of PEA-QDs-Cl was manipulated from 9 nm to 3 nm characterized by HRTEM, emissive spectra were blue shifted from 528 nm to 469 nm measured by photoluminescence (PL). Meanwhile, time-resolved PL (TRPL) decay lifetimes of perovskite quantum dots doped with chloride anions (QDs-Cl) were improved from 10.3 ns to 13.9 ns, because short-chain ligands were introduced to passivate defects on the surface of QDs-Cl. Furthermore, XPS results showed that the chloride content was decreased from 34.7% to 33.7% through chloride vacancies on the surface of QDs-Cl were passivated by PEA.

Abstract:In order to endow quasi-2D organic-inorganic hybrid metal halide perovskites (quasi-2D-PVK) with superior performance, an aromatic organic ligand with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) features is rationally designed and utilized for constructing distinctive quasi-2D-PVK materials. This AIE-active ligand, TTPy-NH2, well fits into the lattices of quasi-2D-PVK and leaves hydrophobic tails surrounding PVK layers, making the presented TTPy-NH2/PVK film extraordinary in terms of both luminescence and stability. Benefiting from the prominent sensitization function and AIE tendency of TTPy-NH2, the presented TTPy-NH2/PVK film exhibits a high quantum yield of 62.2%, unique blue-red dual-emission property of both blue and red, high stability with the remnant of more than 94% fluorescence intensity remnant after 21 days. As a result, TTPy-NH2/PVK film is capable of constituting high-performance white light-emitting diodes, with its color gamut reaching 138% of the National Television System Committee (NTSC) standard and the maximum efficiency is 105 lm W−1 at 20 mA. Evidently, a win-win effect is achieved by the integration of AIE-active ligands and quasi-2D-PVK, which are two of the most reputable solid-state luminogens. This developed protocol thus opens up a new avenue for exploring the next generation of luminescent devices.

Abstract:Quantum-confined CsPbI3 nanocrystals (NCs) are promising materials for the next generation of pure-red displays. Small quantum dots synthesized by colloidal methods often have excess resistive ligands, which reduce the efficiency and long-term stability of the resulting light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Here we developed a facile ligand-exchange method using amino acids to reduce long chain ligands on CsPbI3 quantum dots and improve the efficiency and stability of LEDs made from these QDs. We also assessed a variety of related amino acids and noted how their structure affects the LED performance. We found that a dual-passivation effect was observed in cysteine-passivated QDs that led to the best performance. The optimized LEDs achieved an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 18.0% and a T50 of 87 min, comparable with many of the best reported perovskite QD, pure red LEDs.

Abstract:Inorganic perovskites have attracted much attention due to their excellent optical properties , making them a potential material for optoelectronic devices. In order to better apply it to optoelectronic devices, researchers have developed many synthesis schemes, for example, hot injection method, ligand-assisted reprecipitation method, template method, etc. to accurately control chemical composition, dimension, size, photoelectric and other properties. Here, we used oleylamine, octylamine, and phenylethylamine as amine ligands, and synthesized quantum dots (QDs) through the hot injection method. We found that quantum dot solutions prepared with long-chain ligands exhibit better luminescence performance, while quantum dot films prepared with shorter-chain phenethylamine ligands exhibit better luminescence performance, revealing the regulatory mechanism of amine ligands in the quantum dot growth process. In addition, we have enhanced the optical properties of perovskite films through laser direct writing, providing a reference for the synthesis and control of perovskite materials and their applications in the display.

Abstract:Developing passivation strategies to achieve highly efficient and stable red quantum dots holds significant importance for the application of perovskite luminescent materials. Here, we introduce a kind of small molecule passivating ligands during the synthesis of perovskite quantum dots, which exhibit stronger anchoring interactions with the quantum dot surface and passivate surface vacancy defects. Based on this, we have achieved CsPbI3 quantum dots with a Photoluminescence Quantum Yield (PLQY) close to 100% and applied them in light‐ emitting diodes (LEDs), resulting in LEDs with an EQE as high as 19.8%.

Abstract:In recent years, perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have become a new class of semiconductor materials due to their high monodispersity and adjustable emission spectra. However, there are few studies on perovskite QDs ligands, and there are some problems such as poor stability and low photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY). Here, we prepared CsPbBr3 QDs with excellent optical properties and crystallinity by using caesium stearate as the precursor. Besides, we systematically studied the effects of different chain length organic amines on the yield, optical properties and stability of CsPbBr3 QDs. The experimental results show that the long-chain organic amin oleylamine and dodecylamine (DOAm) have better encapsulation properties, and the synthesised QDs have better crystallinity and stability. CsPbBr3 QDs with PLQY of 90%were obtained by using oleic acid (OA)/DOAm as a ligand at 140°C. Moreover, a high purity monochrome quantum dot light-emitting diode was prepared.

Abstract:All-inorganic semiconductor perovskite quantum dots (QDs) with outstanding optoelectronic properties have already been extensively investigated and implemented in various applications. However, great challenges exist for the fabrication of nanodevices including toxicity, fast anion-exchange reactions, and unsatisfactory stability. Here, the ultrathin, core-shell structured SiO2 coated Mn2+ doped CsPbX3 (X = Br, Cl) QDs are prepared via one facile reverse microemulsion method at room temperature. By incorporation of a multibranched capping ligand of trioctylphosphine oxide, it is found that the breakage of the CsPbMnX3 core QDs contributed from the hydrolysis of silane could be effectively blocked. The thickness of silica shell can be well-controlled within 2 nm, which gives the CsPbMnX3 @SiO2 QDs a high quantum yield of 50.5% and improves thermostability and water resistance. Moreover, the mixture of CsPbBr3 QDs with green emission and CsPbMnX3 @SiO2 QDs with yellow emission presents no ion exchange effect and provides white light emission. As a result, a white light-emitting diode (LED) is successfully prepared by the combination of a blue on-chip LED device and the above perovskite mixture. The as-prepared white LED displays a high luminous efficiency of 68.4 lm W-1 and a high color-rendering index of Ra = 91, demonstrating their broad future applications in solid-state lighting fields.

Abstract:High-performance blue perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) are of key importance for electroluminescent light-emitting diodes (LEDs) toward full color display in the future. Here, mixed halogen PQDs CsPb(Br x /Cl1–x )3 with a tunable emission wavelength was obtained through a strategy of ligand-assisted anion exchange assisted by didodecydimethyammonium chloride (DDAC) ligand. Surface Br– vacancies of the PQD are passivated by the halogen atoms in the anchored DDAC ligand, enabling a high efficiency emission of blue light from the PQD. Stable anchoring of the ligand also improves the robustness of the PQD during its purification in weak polar solvents. Well-controlled chlorine stoichiometry of the PQD also allows fine-tuning of its photoluminescence and electroluminescence spectra in the range of 424–514 nm and 453–500 nm. The external quantum efficiency of the fabricated PQDs LED device reaches 10.1% at 495 nm, 6.5% at 484 nm, and 5.1% at 470 nm (NTSC pure blue) under a constant current test. Our work provides a facile method without additional purification or ligand separation to achieve highly efficient blue PQDs with a tunable emission wavelength, promoting the advance of blue PQDs LED.

Abstract:The ligand engineering of inorganic lead halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) is an indispensable strategy to boost their photoluminescence stability, which is pivotal for optoelectronics applications. CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) PQDs exhibit exceptional optical properties, including high color purity and tunable bandgaps. Despite their promising characteristics, environmental sensitivity poses a challenge to their stability. This article reviews the solution-based synthesis methods with ligand engineering. It introduces the impact of factors like humidity, temperature, and light exposure on PQD's instability, as well as in situ and post-synthesis ligand engineering strategies. The use of various ligands, including X- and L-type ligands, is reviewed for their effectiveness in enhancing stability and luminescence performance. Finally, the significant potential of ligand engineering for the broader application of PQDs in optoelectronic devices is also discussed.
Highly Efficient Mn-doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 Quantum Dots for White Light-Emitting Diodes

Abstract:White light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) based on all-inorganic perovskite CsPbX3 (X = Cl, Br, I) quantum dots (QDs) have attracted much attention and rely on mixing several colors of perovskites. However, this inevitably leads to a non-uniform light distribution and serious light loss. Here, a novel strategy was demonstrated to obtain white emission by combining the orange and blue emission from CsPb/Mn(Cl/Br)3 QDs. Notably, highly efficient white emission with a photoluminescence quantum yield of 94% was achieved by an anion exchange surface engineering (AESE) strategy. After AESE treatment the surface traps can be eliminated, resulting in improved exciton and Mn2+ emission. A prototype WLED device was fabricated and exhibited excellent optical stability, demonstrating great potential for perovskite QDs in the field of optoelectronics.
Synergistic passivation of high stability CsPb(Br/I) 3 perovskite quantum dots with double ligands for WLEDs

Abstract:The all-inorganic perovskite CsPbI 3 quantum dots are difficult to achieve pure red stable luminescence due to their poor lattice thermodynamic stability and non-radiative recombination loss caused by surface halide vacancies. Therefore, the pure red perovskites are usually achieved by mixing the composition of halides (Br and I). In this work, CsPb(Br/I) 3 quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized by the hot-injection method under the synergistic effect of homophthalic acid (HA), 2-bromoethanesulphonic acid sodium salt (SBES), and oleylamine (OAm). By adjusting the molar ratio of passivates, the synergistic effect of multiple ligands can not only passivate the unliganded Pb 2+ -related defects on the surface of NCs, but also increase the formation energy of halide vacancies. Meanwhile, due to the bidentate structure of HA, smaller size of perovskites nanocrystals were obtained. Eventually, synergistic boost in device performance is achieved for color-by-blue white light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) with CIE coordinates of (0.3319, 0.3297) and have an external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 10.13%. This strategy paves an efficient way for improving the efficiency and stability of CsPb(Br/I) 3 NCs.

Abstract:Metal halide perovskite quantum dots (QDs) have significant potential for application in light-emitting diodes (LED) owing to their superior optical properties. However, the dynamic instability of traditional oleic acid/amine ligands has a considerable impact on the optical and chemical properties of the surface. Additionally, one of its insulating qualities restricts the practical application of electroluminescent devices. In this case, the dual-function ligand DDA-MeS can passivate surface defects while also stabilizing chelation on QDs surface. As a result, the electrical performance of green QDs-LED devices is greatly enhanced, the external quantum efficiency is raised to 10.18%, the maximum brightness is also boosted to 8025 cd/m 2 , and the turn-on voltage is decreased to 2.5 V. This work also provides a novel strategy for the development of green LED devices with dual-function ligands that can be highly effective and bright.
