Abstract:Purpose: The objective of our study was to assess awareness, attitudes, and practices regarding artificial intelligence (AI) among healthcare workers in private polyclinics in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Methods: We conducted cross-sectional study among healthcare workers in private clinics in Jeddah. Data was collected using a structured, validated questionnaire in Arabic and English on awareness, attitudes, and behaviors regarding AI. Cronbach's alpha for the questionnaire ranged from 0.6 to 0.8. Descriptive and bivariate analysis was done to assess the scores and their association of various sociodemographic variables with awareness, attitudes, and behaviors regarding AI. Multiple linear regression was performed to predict the scores of awareness, attitudes, and behaviors based on the sociodemographic variables. Results: We recruited 361 participants for this study. Approximately, 62% of the healthcare workers were female. The majority (36%) of healthcare workers were nurses, while 25% were physicians. The median awareness, attitude, and behavioral scores were 5/6 (IQR 3-6), 5/8 (IQR 4-7), and 0/3 (IQR 0), respectively. Approximately three-fourths (74%) of the healthcare workers believed that they understood the basic computational principles of AI. Only half of the participants were willing to use AI when making future medical decisions. We found that male healthcare workers had better knowledge scores regarding AI as compared to female healthcare workers (Beta = 0.555, 95%, p value = 0.010), while for attitude scores, being administrative employee as compared to other employees was found to have negative attitude towards AI (Beta = 0.049, 95%, p value = 0.03). Conclusion: We found that healthcare workers had an overall good awareness and optimistic attitude toward AI. Despite this, the majority is worried about the potential consequences of replacing their jobs with AI in the future. There is a dire need to educate and sensitize healthcare workers regarding the potential impact of AI on healthcare.

Abstract:Background: Research identified preliminary evidence that artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in healthcare, revolutionising various aspects of healthcare delivery, from diagnostics to treatment planning. However, integrating AI into healthcare systems in Egypt is challenging, particularly concerning healthcare professionals' acceptance and adoption of these technologies. This mixed-method study aimed to explore the sentiment of nurses at different organisational levels towards AI and resistance to change in healthcare organisations. Methods: A mixed-method design was employed, with quantitative data collected through a survey of 500 nurses using the general attitudes towards AI and resistance to change scale and qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with 17 nurses. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, while qualitative data were analysed thematically. Results: The survey demonstrated that positive attitudes were inversely correlated with resistance behaviour and resistance to change. Additionally, perceptions of AI's usefulness, ease of use and value were strongly and positively correlated with positive attitudes and negatively correlated with negative attitudes. Moreover, the influence of colleagues' opinions, self-efficacy for change and organisational support showed significant positive correlations with positive attitudes towards AI and negative correlations with negative attitudes. Qualitatively, nurses cited obstacles such as lack of familiarity with AI technologies, biases affecting decision-making, technological challenges, inadequate training and fear of technology replacing human interaction. Readiness for AI integration was associated with the necessity of training and the timing of AI use. Conclusion: Nurses demonstrated varied understanding of AI's applications and benefits. Some acknowledged its potential for efficiency and time-saving, while others highlighted a need for up-to-date knowledge. Patient or public contribution: No patient or public contribution.

Abstract:Background and aims: The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) relies on computer science and large datasets, with the technology mimicking human intelligence as it makes logical decisions. This study aims to assess the perceptions and experiences of anesthesiology practitioners toward AI and identify its benefits to healthcare professionals and patients, along with current and future applications of AI. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive online survey study was disseminated to physicians who work in anesthesiology practice in Saudi Arabia. Descriptive statistics were used to report the characteristics of the respondents and summarize the results of the survey. Results: There were 109 responses, with 85.32% being male, 35.78% being aged 40-49 years, and 69.72% being consultant anesthesiologists. The majority of participants (73.39%) believed that AI could be used in multiple settings related to anesthesiology practice. Participants also believed that AI could facilitate access to data (76.15%), enable precise decision-making (75.23%), reduce medical errors (55.04%), reduce workload and shortage of healthcare personnel (53.21%), and allow healthcare personnel to focus on more demanding cases (69.72%). In addition, the majority of participants believed that AI can be beneficial to patients, in which 69.72% believed that AI can improve patient access to care, 77.06% believed that AI can facilitate patient education, and 65.14% believed that AI can guide patients during treatment. Lastly, 70.64% believed that AI would be beneficial to anesthesiology practices in the future. However, 61.47% claimed that their workplace has no plan for adopting AI. Conclusions: The anesthesiologists showed generally positive attitudes towards AI, in spite of its limited utilization and implementation challenges. Strong beliefs exist about AI's future potential in anesthesia care and postgraduate education.

Abstract:Artificial intelligence (AI) is branch of data science enable machines to emulate human thinking. Implementation of AI in the medical field provides a great opportunity to change face of healthcare service by improving diagnosis, service quality, and reduce the cost. The aim of this study is to assess the awareness of AI programs among staff working at healthcare field in Hafr-Elbatin, and to investigate their health professionals insight toward AI applications inhealthcare. Online google form survey targeted healthcare professionals in Hafr El-Batin, Saudi Arabia. Out of 1400 distributed survey, 234 responses were received. The results showed 40.2% of the participants havent used AI applications in their work, 35.9% didnt know the difference between machine learning and deep learning, only 13.7% use AI applications at work daily. Regarding attitude, 82.1% of participants suspected that using AI may be a serious privacy issue, 76.9% agreed that AI is more dangerous than nuclear weapons, and 73 are worried that AI may replace their jobs in the future, and 88.9% believed that AI could be useful in my area of work. In contrast to agreeing on usefulness of AI in healthcare field, there is a limited knowledge about AI technologies and concern about potential consequence of its implementation in the medical field. Further studies are needed to investigate the attitude regarding AI application, better education and regulatory framework are required as well.
Assessment of the Perception and Worries of Saudi Healthcare Providers About the Application of Artificial Intelligence in Saudi Health Facilities

Abstract:Objective This study is aimed at assessing the perception and worries of Saudi healthcare providers about the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in Saudi healthcare facilities. Methods The study adopted a cross-sectional study involving 1026 Saudi healthcare providers between January 2023 and April 2023. The target population was healthcare providers across Saudi health facilities. Online questionnaires were administered through social media platforms. Data were analyzed using SPSS Statistics, version 26.0 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY) to obtain important insights. Results The results of this study indicated that more than half (55.2%) of the respondents had good knowledge of AI, with (48.1%) of them being familiar with the application of AI in their specialty. A good proportion of the participants (57.9%) knew at least one term about the difference between machine learning and deep learning. More than half (69.9%) of the participants indicated that they had at one point in time used speech recognition or transcription application in their work. A large section (73.3%) of healthcare providers believed that AI would replace them at their job. A vast majority (84.9%) of the participants agreed that collaboration between medical schools with engineering and computer science faculties could be a game changer to provide a road for incorporating AI into medical curricula. The mean perception of AI in this study was 37.6 (SD=8.41; range 0-241). Age, level of health, health profession, and working experience all significantly impacted the positive perception score (p=0.021; p=0.031; p=0.041; p=0.026). However, there was no significant association between gender, nationality, and Saudi regions with a mean positive perception score. Conclusion There was a positive perception of AI among Saudi healthcare providers. Even though a substantial majority of Saudi healthcare providers were worried that AI would replace their jobs, the study revealed that AI serves as a crucial practitioner's tool rather than a physician's replacement.

Abstract:Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming healthcare systems by improving operational efficiency, simplifying patient care procedures, and improving diagnostic accuracy. Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, like machine learning and natural language processing, present previously unheard-of chances to quickly and accurately evaluate enormous volumes of healthcare data, assisting with clinical decision-making and enhancing patient outcomes. Aim thorough examination and analysis of artificial intelligence's impact on healthcare leadership, with a particular emphasis on present nursing trends and their implications for the future. The study tries to uncover the advantages, difficulties, and consequences of AI integration by looking at how AI technologies including clinical decision support systems, predictive analytics, robots, natural language processing, and telehealth are being used in nursing practice. Method: A comprehensive analysis including research articles published between 2015 and 2024 was carried out. To give a thorough overview of AI's present and future uses in healthcare, major themes and trends were found and summarized. Results: By stressing AI's role in improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes, the study highlights the technology's major contributions to drug discovery, virtual patient care, and medical imaging. Human-centered design concerns, the necessity of educational changes, and ethical challenges surrounding the application of AI surfaced as crucial topics needing attention. Conclusion: AI has enormous potential to transform healthcare by enhancing operational effectiveness, optimizing the delivery of care, and increasing diagnostic precision. Still, ethical issues must be resolved, interdisciplinary cooperation must be promoted, and educational frameworks must be improved in order to provide healthcare workers with the necessary AI skills.

Abstract:Background: With the ever-increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into health care, it becomes imperative to gain an in-depth understanding of how health care professionals, specifically nurse practitioners, perceive and approach this transformative technology. Objectives: This study aimed to gain insights into nurse practitioners' perceptions and attitudes toward AI adoption in health care. Methods: This qualitative research employed a descriptive and phenomenological approach using in-depth interviews. Data were collected through a semi-structured questionnaire with 37 nurse practitioners selected through purposive sampling, specifically Maximum Variation Sampling and Expert Sampling techniques, to ensure diversity in characteristics. Trustworthiness of the research was maintained through member checking and peer debriefing. Thematic analysis was employed to uncover recurring themes and patterns in the data. Results: The thematic analysis revealed nine main themes that encapsulated nurse practitioners' perceptions and attitudes toward AI adoption in health care. These included nurse practitioners' perceptions of AI implementation, attitudes toward AI adoption, patient-centered care and AI, quality of health care delivery and AI, ethical and regulatory aspects of AI, education and training needs, collaboration and interdisciplinary relationships, obstacles in integrating AI, and AI and health care policy. While this study found that nurse practitioners held a wide range of perspectives, with many viewings AI as a tool to enhance patient care. Conclusions: This research provides a valuable contribution to the evolving discourse surrounding AI adoption in health care. The findings underscore the necessity for comprehensive education and training in AI, accompanied by clear and robust ethical and regulatory guidelines to ensure the responsible integration of AI in health care practice. Furthermore, fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary relationships is pivotal for the successful incorporation of AI in health care. Policymakers should also address the challenges and opportunities that AI presents in the health care sector. This study enhances the ongoing conversation on AI adoption in health care by shedding light on the perspectives of nurses, thereby shaping future strategies for AI integration.

Abstract:SUMMARY: Ultrathin sections of sporangia of the actinomycete Microellobosporia flavea were examined with an electron microscope. The sporangial wall is a thin, wrinkled membrane which seems to be an extension of the outer layer of the cell wall of the sporangiophore. A substance, probably a liquid, is located between the sporangial wall and the sporangiospores. The spores are ovoid and consist of a laminated wall in which two layers can be differentiated. The wall is 30–40 mμ thick but thickens to 90–120 mμ at the point of contact between two spores. Inside the spores one can differentiate a finely granular nucleus, large vacuoles which are probably filled with a fatty substance, and a coarsely granular cytoplasm. The cytology of the sporangiospores of M. flavea is similar to that of the conidia of Waksmania rosea.
Assessing Public Knowledge and Acceptance of Using Artificial Intelligence Doctors as a Partial Alternative to Human Doctors in Saudi Arabia: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract:Objective To assess the public acceptance of using artificial intelligence (AI) doctors to diagnose and treat patients as a partial alternative to human physicians in Saudi Arabia. Methodology An observational cross-sectional study was conducted from January to March 2024. A link to an online questionnaire was distributed through social media applications to citizens and residents aged 18 years and older across various regions in Saudi Arabia. The sample size was calculated using the Raosoft online survey size calculator, which estimated that the minimum sample size should be 385. Results Of the 386 participants surveyed, 85.8% reported being aware of AI, and 47.9% reported having some knowledge about different AI fields in daily life. However, almost one-third (32.9%) reported a lack of knowledge about the use of AI in healthcare. In terms of acceptance, 52.3% of respondents indicated they felt comfortable with the use of AI tools as partial alternatives to human doctors, and 30.8% believed AI is useful in the field of health. The most common concern (63.7%) about the use of AI tools accessible to patients was the difficulty of describing symptoms using these tools. Conclusion The findings of this study provide valuable insights into the public's knowledge and acceptance of AI in medicine within the Saudi Arabian context. Overall, this study underscores the importance of proactively addressing the public's concerns and knowledge gaps regarding AI in healthcare. By fostering greater understanding and acceptance, healthcare stakeholders can better harness the potential of AI to improve patient outcomes and enhance the efficiency of medical services in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract:Abstract Background and Aims The prospect of using artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare is bright and promising, and its use can have a significant impact on cost reduction and decrease the possibility of error and negligence among healthcare workers. This study aims to investigate the level of knowledge, attitude, and acceptance among Iranian physicians and nurses. Methods This cross‐sectional descriptive‐analytical study was conducted in eight public university hospitals located in Tehran on 400 physicians and nurses. To conduct the study, convenient sampling was used with the help of researcher‐made questionnaires. Statistical analysis was done by SPSS 21 The mean and standard deviation and Chi‐square and Fisher's exact tests were used. Results In this study, the level of knowledge among the research subjects was average (14.66 ± 4.53), the level of their attitude toward AI was relatively favorable (47.81 ± 6.74), and their level of acceptance of AI was average (103.19 ± 13.70). Moreover, from the participant's perspective, AI in medicine is most widely used in increasing the accuracy of diagnostic tests (86.5%), identifying drug interactions (82.75%), and helping to analyze medical tests and imaging (80%). There was a statistically significant relationship between the variable of acceptance of AI and the participant's level of education ( p = 0.028), participation in an AI training course ( p = 0.022), and the hospital department where they worked ( p < 0.001). Conclusion In this study, both the knowledge and the acceptance of the participants towards AI were proved to be at an average level and the attitude towards AI was relatively favorable, which is in contrast with the very rapid and inevitable expansion of AI. Although our participants were aware of the growing use of AI in medicine, they had a cautious attitude toward this.

Abstract:Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) has grown in popularity over the last few decades, and its application in clinical trials is on the rise around the world. Despite Sophie, the world's first humanoid robot to be awarded personality and citizenship by Saudi Arabia, and AI Arabic bots designed to improve customer service, the Saudi region is yet to completely embrace the AI Revolution. Over the last few years, the clinical usage of AI systems in medicine has grown in popularity. Several surgical AI platforms have been tested and found to improve preoperative diagnostic and decision making, outcome prediction, surgical planning, and intraoperative surgical guidance. This study examines clinical researchers' knowledge and attitudes toward Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in Saudi Arabia. Objective: To find out knowledge about artificial intelligence among clinical researchers of Saudi Arabia and their attitude towards the same. Materials and methods: This study was carried out utilising an online questionnaire-based survey that was created with Google forms and emailed to clinical researchers in the friend circle. A total of 118 people replied to the survey, and the sample population was chosen using a convenience sampling technique. They were asked about their demographics, knowledge of AI, and attitudes toward it.

Abstract:Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is widely used in various medical fields, including diagnostic radiology as a tool for greater efficiency, precision, and accuracy. The integration of AI as a radiological diagnostic tool has the potential to mitigate delays in diagnosis, which could, in turn, impact patients' prognosis and treatment outcomes. The literature shows conflicting results regarding patients' attitudes to AI as a diagnostic tool. To the best of our knowledge, no similar study has been conducted in Saudi Arabia. Objective: The objectives of this study are to examine patients' attitudes toward the use of AI as a tool in diagnostic radiology at King Khalid University Hospital, Saudi Arabia. Additionally, we sought to explore potential associations between patients' attitudes and various sociodemographic factors. Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital. Data were collected from patients scheduled for radiological imaging through a validated self-administered questionnaire. The main outcome was to measure patients' attitudes to the use of AI in radiology by calculating mean scores of 5 factors, distrust and accountability (factor 1), procedural knowledge (factor 2), personal interaction and communication (factor 3), efficiency (factor 4), and methods of providing information to patients (factor 5). Data were analyzed using the student t test, one-way analysis of variance followed by post hoc and multivariable analysis. Results: A total of 382 participants (n=273, 71.5% women and n=109, 28.5% men) completed the surveys and were included in the analysis. The mean age of the respondents was 39.51 (SD 13.26) years. Participants favored physicians over AI for procedural knowledge, personal interaction, and being informed. However, the participants demonstrated a neutral attitude for distrust and accountability and for efficiency. Marital status was found to be associated with distrust and accountability, procedural knowledge, and personal interaction. Associations were also found between self-reported health status and being informed and between the field of specialization and distrust and accountability. Conclusions: Patients were keen to understand the work of AI in radiology but favored personal interaction with a radiologist. Patients were impartial toward AI replacing radiologists and the efficiency of AI, which should be a consideration in future policy development and integration. Future research involving multicenter studies in different regions of Saudi Arabia is required.

Abstract:Recently, artificial intelligence (AI) has been one of the hottest topics in the technological world. Although it is involved in many domains, it was recently involved in the healthcare sector. AI can be used for diagnostics, drug development, treatment personalization, gene editing, disease prediction, and many more. It helps to improve healthcare services by benefiting medical professionals, hospitals, and patients. Saudi Arabia has a particular interest in the healthcare sector, and it has a clear vision for the future, which points toward the development of AI-based technologies. Few studies investigated the use of AI in Saudi healthcare, and most of them focused on healthcare employees' perceptions. This study is beyond the focus of the existing works. It aims at: 1) presenting the main AI-based healthcare applications; 2) exploring the use of AI in the Saudi healthcare sector; 3) addressing their ethical and legal challenges, along with the policy questions in Saudi healthcare; 4) studying the benefits of these AI-based applications and the acceptance of professionals to use AI in daily practice; 5) introducing the new Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL) in Saudi Arabia; and 6) discussing the importance of AI to the future of Saudi healthcare. To this purpose, a survey was distributed among four main Saudi hospitals. The findings showed that AI should not only lead to better health but also save manpower and simplify the healthcare processes. Abstract:Objectives: Artificial intelligence (AI) holds the promise to revolutionize the field of medicine and enhance the well-being of countless patients. Its capabilities span various areas, including disease prevention, accurate diagnosis, and the development of innovative treatments. Moreover, AI has the potential to streamline health-care delivery and lower expenses. The community should be aware of the potential applications of AI in health care, so that they can advocate for its development and adoption. Hence, the objective of this study is to assess the community's perspectives regarding the utilization of AI in health care. Methods: A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study was conducted in Saudi Arabia during the period of June to October 2023. The questionnaire was distributed to people on various social media platforms using a convenience sampling method. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences. Results: The study included 771 individuals, with 42.5% having a positive outlook on the use of AI in health care, 31.8% having a neutral view, and 7.5% having a negative view. The only factor associated with a positive opinion was regional differences (P = 0.006). Moreover, participants who used medical apps or programs (P = 0.026), wearables (P = 0.027), felt more confident in using technology (P < 0.001), enjoyed using technology (P < 0.001), found it easier to familiarize themselves with new devices or programs (P < 0.001), and had more knowledge about AI (P < 0.001) had more positive opinions regarding the use of AI in health care. Conclusions: The study found that most Saudis, especially those who were familiar with the use of technology, support the use of AI in health care, with a positive or neutral view. Yet, targeted campaigns in certain regions are needed to educate the entire community about AI's potential benefits.

Abstract:Background: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming integral to the health sector, particularly radiology, because it enhances diagnostic accuracy and optimizes patient care. This study aims to assess the awareness and acceptance of AI among radiology professionals in Saudi Arabia, identifying the educational and training needs to bridge knowledge gaps and enhance AI-related competencies. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study surveyed radiology professionals across various hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Participants were recruited through multiple channels, including direct invitations, emails, social media, and professional societies. The survey comprised four sections: demographic details, perceptions of AI, knowledge about AI, and willingness to adopt AI in clinical practice. Results: Out of 374 radiology professionals surveyed, 45.2% acknowledged AI's significant impact on their field. Approximately 44% showed enthusiasm for AI adoption. However, 58.6% reported limited AI knowledge and inadequate training, with 43.6% identifying skill development and the complexity of AI educational programs as major barriers to implementation. Conclusion: While radiology professionals in Saudi Arabia are generally positive about integrating AI into clinical practice, significant gaps in knowledge and training need to be addressed. Tailored educational programs are essential to fully leverage AI's potential in improving medical imaging practices and patient care outcomes.

Abstract:Background Artificial intelligence (AI) Healthcare applications are listed in the national visions of some Gulf Cooperation Council countries. A successful use of AI depends on the attitude and perception of medical experts of its applications. Objective To evaluate physicians and medical students’ attitude and perception on AI applications in healthcare. Method A web-based survey was disseminated by email to physicians and medical students. Results A total of 293 (82 physicians and 211 medical students) individuals have participated (response rate is 27%). Seven participants (9%) reported knowing nothing about AI, while 208 (69%) were aware that it is an emerging field and would like to learn about it. Concerns about AI impact on physicians’ employability were not prominent. Instead, the majority (n=159) agreed that new positions will be created and the job market for those who embrace AI will increase. They reported willingness to adapt AI in practice if it was incorporated in international guidelines (30.5%), published in respected scientific journals (17.1%), or included in formal training (12.2%). Almost two of the three participants agreed that dedicated courses will help them to implement AI. The most commonly reported problem of AI is its inability to provide opinions in unexpected scenarios. Half of the participants think that both the manufacturer and physicians should be legally liable for medical errors occur due to AI-based decision support tools while more than one-third (36.77%) think that physicians who make the final decision should be legally liable. Senior physicians were found to be less familiar with AI and more concerned about physicians’ legal liability in case of a medical error. Conclusion Physicians and medical students showed positive attitudes and willingness to learn about AI applications in healthcare. Introducing AI learning objectives or short courses in medical curriculum would help to equip physicians with the needed skills for AI-augmented healthcare system.
