Abstract:Growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) is a rare condition that arises secondary to malignant germ cell tumors. It is characterized by an enlarging abdominal mass during or after chemotherapy, normal tumor markers, and histopathological indications of mature teratoma components. Awareness of GTS is limited, and it is often mistaken for disease progression or recurrence. This misdiagnosis can lead to delayed treatment and increased risk of complications. Therefore, early identification of GTS is crucial to avoid unnecessary systemic treatments and reduce financial burden. GTS is unresponsive to chemotherapy or radiotherapy and complete surgical resection is the sole therapeutic strategy. In this report, we present a case of GTS in a 20-year-old female following treatment for immature teratoma, alongside a review of the relevant literature aimed at enriching our insight into the clinical manifestations of GTS.
Pituitary germinoma after resection of a mature third ventricular teratoma: illustrative case

Abstract:Background: Metachronous intracranial germ cell tumors (iGCTs)-unrelated, histologically different iGCTs occurring at different time points-occurring within the same patient remain a rarity. Herein, the authors report such a case and discuss the literature and potential pathophysiological mechanisms leading to this phenomenon. Observations: A 9-year-old boy presented with new-onset impaired balance, headaches, nausea, visual disturbances, and left facial paresis. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans revealed a suspected pineal region teratoma originating from the pineal gland with consecutive obstructive hydrocephalus. A mature teratoma was diagnosed and resected. Postoperative recovery was good, and the patient could return to his normal daily activities. However, a new, slowly progressive lesion in the sellar region with an enlarged infundibular stalk was detected on follow-up MRI 3.5 years after initial pineal region teratoma resection. Biopsy revealed a newly developed pure germinoma. The patient was treated with radiotherapy plus chemotherapy and remained relapse free at the last follow-up. Sixteen other cases have reported a surgically resected primary mature teratoma, wherein patients developed metachronous germinomas during follow-up. Different theories try to elaborate this phenomenon, yet none can completely account for it. Lessons: Although rare, metachronous iGCT is a phenomenon neurosurgeons should be aware of. Abstract:Mature teratoma is a subtype of intracranial germ cell tumors (GCTs), distinguished from malignant GCTs by its benign nature and excellent prognosis. Typically, no adjuvant therapy is recommended following gross total resection (GTR). We report a case of a prepubertal girl with a suprasellar mature teratoma that recurred as a germinoma 6 months post-GTR. A 7-year-old girl presented with headache and polydipsia. Imaging revealed a suprasellar mass. The patient underwent GTR, and pathological diagnosis confirmed a mature teratoma without other GCT components. Six months later, MRI identified a newly developed suprasellar mass adjacent to the optic chiasm. A second surgery confirmed the mass as a germinoma. The patient subsequently underwent adjuvant chemotherapy combined with proton therapy, resulting in complete remission. The diagnosis of mature teratoma must be approached with caution, and thorough follow-up is imperative, particularly in cases involving female patients, prepubertal age, or non-pineal locations.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: To access imaging findings of growing teratoma syndrome (GTS), which is a rare complication of malignant ovarian germ cell tumor (GCT) after chemotherapy.METHODS: Five patients met the criteria for GTS. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance images were retrospectively reviewed by 2 radiologists in consensus for margin, attenuation, and the presence of gross fat or calcification of GTS lesions, which were compared with primary GCTs regarding tumor composition.RESULTS: Growing teratoma syndrome lesions were characterized as follows: poorly circumscribed, diffuse peritoneal masses in 2 patients; well-circumscribed, localized peritoneal masses in 1 patient, and ovarian masses in 2 patients. Features more noticeable in GTS lesions were more prominent fatty components in 4 patients and purely cystic lesion in 1 patient.CONCLUSIONS: Growing teratoma syndrome can be manifested as intraperitoneal masses with an increased fatty or cystic component. Radiologists should consider GTS when there are such masses on follow-up imaging studies in patients with malignant ovarian GCT.

Abstract:Growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) is defined as enlarging masses during or after chemotherapy for germ cell tumors, and containing only mature teratoma components. A surgical resection is important to confirm a diagnosis and thereby result in the resection of the most appropriate therapeutic management. GTS is a rare event in association with ovarian germ cell tumors. This report presents a case of a 36-year-old female treated surgically for GTS found during the follow-up after chemotherapy and the primary surgical resection of a malignant immature teratoma. Those masses showed fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography positivity and elevated serum CA19-9 prior to the second operation. The histology revealed a mature teratoma. The patient has been disease free for 6 months after the second operation.

Abstract:Growing Teratoma Syndrome (GTS) is defined as the occurrence of a tumor mass consisting exclusively of mature teratoma, combined with normal tumor marker levels, during or after chemotherapy in patients with Non Seminomatous Germ Cell Tumors (NSGCT). We report two cases of GTS. Case 1 is a woman with concomitant retroperitoneal mass invading the muscular layer of abdominal wall, and scattered nodules fixed on the diaphragm following a primary ovarian immature teratoma within 9 months during chemotherapy. No macroscopic deposit was left at the end of last surgery, and pathologic diagnosis showed mature teratoma. The serum level of CA19-9 elevated through the course of disease even four months after the radical operation of GTS when blood amylase and CT scan were negative, and electronic gastroscopy showed chronically congestive and exudative gastritis. We consider the elevated CA19-9 is mainly due to gastritis or only reactive peritoneal mesothelial cells. Case 2 is a woman with scattered nodules fixed on the pelvic peritoneal following a primary ovarian immature teratoma within 3 months during chemotherapy, which is proved to be mature teratoma with mature gliacyte by pathologic diagnosis. The tumor markers are all negative after that and another ovarian mass is found 6 months later. We also reviewed relevant literature and distinguished GTS from chemotherapeutic retroconversion (CR), and gliomatosis peritonei (GP). Optimal cytoreduction with no macroscopic residual disease is essential for GTS with subsequent favorable prognosis. Regular follow-up is recommended.
[Ovarian Growing Teratoma Syndrome Clinical Study of 22 Cases].

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To describe the essential points for the correct diagnosis and best treatment for ovarian growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) developed after surgery and chemotherapy for ovarian immature teratoma.METHODS:Retrospective review of the clinical characteristics and long term follow up results of 22 cases of ovarian GTS to illustrate the unique biological behavior of the tumor and good prognosis of the disease.RESULTS:Pathological examination of the tumors revealed completely benign mature teratoma with G0 grading in 20 cases. The other 2 cases were found to be G0 mature teratoma with concurrent association of malignant somatic cell tumor: carcinoid and primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) respectively. Among the 22 cases of ovarian GTS there are 6 cases with recurrent tumors developed repeatedly, so totally surgical treatments had been performed for 31 times. Time interval in between the development of the ovarian GTS and the initial surgery for their primary immature teratoma is equal to or exceeding one year in 94% (29/31) of the cases. Such a time factor is of high significance for the diagnosis of ovarian GTS. As the benign behavior of the ovarian GTS together with its poor response to chemotherapy have just been recognized in recent years, they were treated as malignant tumors as their original primary immature teratoma before the year of 1987. Postoperative chemotherapy of various kinds was applied. By the year of 1988 postoperative chemotherapy began to be abandoned and since then most of the patients (9/10) had not received postoperative chemotherapy. After long periods of follow up (3.6 -23.0 years) 20 of the 22 patients are found to be living and well. The rest 2 patients died of the concurrent association of malignant somatic cell tumors with carcinoid and PNET in 0.1 and 0.3 years respectively.CONCLUSIONS:Ovarian GTS is a tumor developed after surgical and chemotherapeutic treatment of malignant ovarian immature teratoma. Pathologic grading of the tumors showed retroconversion of the malignancy of the tumor from G3, G2 or G1 to G0 with good prognosis. The tumor usually remained to be quiescent for long periods of time. But there are also some potential of progressive growth, the tumor may grow to huge size and the recurrent tumor may develop repeatedly for several times more than 10 or 20 years later. Surgical removal should be the main treatment either for the primary or the recurrent tumors. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy are not effective and can do nothing but harm to patients. Only correct knowledge about the benign biological behavior of the ovarian GTS and reasonable therapeutic regimen can have the disease ends with good prognosis.

Abstract:Molecular analysis of the growing teratoma syndrome has not been extensively studied. Here, we report a 14-year-old boy with a growing mass during treatment for a mixed germ cell tumor of the pineal region. Tumor markers were negative; thus, growing teratoma syndrome was suspected. A radical resection via the occipital transtentorial approach was performed, and histopathological examination revealed a teratoma with malignant features. Methylation classifier analysis confirmed the diagnosis of teratoma, and DMRT1 loss and 12p gain were identified by copy number variation analysis, potentially elucidating the cause of growth and malignant transformation of the teratoma. The patient remains in remission after intense chemoradiation treatment as a high-risk germ cell tumor.

Intracranial germ cell tumors: a view of the endocrinologist

Abstract:Intracranial germ cell tumors (iGCTs) are rare malignant neoplasms that mainly affect children and adolescents. The incidence, clinical presentation, and prognosis of iGCTs exhibit high heterogeneity. Previous studies have primarily focused on eliminating tumors, reducing tumor recurrence, and improving survival rates, while neglecting the impact of the tumors and their treatment on neuroendocrine function. Throughout the entire course of the disease, neuroendocrine dysfunction may occur and is frequently overlooked by oncologists, neurosurgeons, and radiologists. Endocrinologists, however, are more interested in this issue and have varying priorities at different stages of the disease. From onset to the diagnostic phase, most patients with iGCTs may present with symptoms related to impaired neuroendocrine function, or even experience these symptoms as their first indication of the condition. Particularly, a minority of patients with sellar/suprasellar lesions may exhibit typical imaging features and elevated tumor markers long after the onset of initial symptoms. This can further complicate the diagnosis process. During the peritumor treatment phase, the neuroendocrine function shows dynamic changes and needs to be evaluated dynamically. Once diabetes insipidus and dysfunction of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal and hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axes occur, hormone replacement therapy should be administered promptly to ensure successful tumor treatment for the patient. Subsequently, during the long-term management phase after the completion of tumor treatment, the evaluation of growth and development as well as corresponding hormone replacement therapy are the most concerning and complex issues. Thus, this paper reviews the interest of endocrinologists in iGCTs at different stages.
Treatment Course and Outcomes of Intracranial Teratomas in Pediatric Patients: A Retrospective 15-Year Case Series Study

Abstract:Introduction: There is no standard treatment paradigm for intracranial teratomas, a rare subset of primary intracranial non-germinomatous germ cell tumors (NGGCT), which comprise less than 1% of pediatric brain tumors. This case series retrospectively analyzes treatment and outcomes of pediatric intracranial teratomas from a single institution. Methods: Authors reviewed a comprehensive pathology database at Stanford's Lucile Packard Children's Hospital for intracranial teratomas in pediatric patients treated from 2006 to 2021; their demographics, treatment, and clinical course were analyzed. Results: Among 14 patients, median follow-up time was 4.6 years and mean age at diagnosis was 10.5 years. Ten had elevated tumor markers and underwent chemotherapy as initial treatment for NGGCT. Ultimately, these patients all required surgery for progressive or residual disease. Two patients did not undergo radiation. After biopsy or resection, 8 patients had pure mature teratoma, five had mixed germ cell tumor with teratoma component, and one had immature teratoma. The patient with immature teratoma died during chemotherapy from septic shock. No patients experienced recurrence. Common sequelae were endocrine (42.8%) and eye movement (50.0%) abnormalities. Discussion/conclusion: We highlight the variable treatment course and outcome for pediatric patients with intracranial teratomas. Elevated tumor markers at presentation, along with imaging findings, favor chemotherapy initiation for presumed NGGCT. Resection of residual tumor is recommended even if tumor markers return to normal. Prognosis remains excellent; no patients had recurrence with a median follow-up of 4.6 years.

Abstract:Introduction Patients affected by metastatic germ cell tumors may occasionally experience enlargement of masses with concurrent normalization of tumor markers during or after chemotherapy. This phenomenon is described as growing teratoma syndrome (GTS). The aim of the pre sent study is to assess the prevalence of GTS in the pediatric population and its implications in terms of surgical outcome. Patients and methods The clinical notes of patients diagnosed with stage III and IV malignant germ cell tumors from January 2010 until December 2020 at our Institution were retrospectively reviewed. The prevalence of GTS, treatment strategies, survival, and outcome were analyzed. Results Thirty‐three patients with high‐stage malignant germ cell tumors were diagnosed in our institution in the analyzed period. Nine patients (28%) had radiologic evidence of enlargement of persistent masses with normal markers after chemotherapy; these patients were classified as GTS patients. All nine patients underwent resection of metastatic lymph nodes, and six had surgery on visceral metastases. In six patients, radical excision of all metastatic sites was achieved; five patients are alive and in complete remission, while one died because of peri‐operative complications. Out of the three patients who could not achieve radical excision of the metastases, two died of progressive disease, and one is alive with progressive disease. Conclusions Patients affected by GTS have a risk of progression of chemotherapy‐resistant disease and death. Radical surgical excision is essential to achieve disease control and long‐term survival.

A Report of a Rare Case of Rapidly Progressing Immature Teratoma With Associated Splenic Metastasis and Gliomatosis Peritonei

Abstract:Gliomatosis peritonei (GP) is a rare condition of mature glial tissue within the peritoneum often associated with immature teratomas. This was a case of rapid progression of immature teratoma with splenic lesions and associated GP. The patient was a 21-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain and CT imaging showing suspected malignant teratoma. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy with fertility-sparing debulking surgery and was diagnosed with stage IIIC grade 3 immature teratoma. She then received adjuvant chemotherapy with bleomycin, etoposide, and cisplatin. Surveillance imaging demonstrated a non-avid splenic lesion. The tumor markers remained normal. She underwent robotic splenectomy and partial peritonectomy with intra-operative findings revealing numerous peritoneal nodules. Follow-up surveillance imaging showed no further lesions. The final histopathology examination demonstrated mature and mesenchymal neural tissue consistent with residual teratoma and no immature elements. The specimens were largely composed of nodules of mature glial tissue and focal areas of mature neuronal tissue. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and S100 expression, confirming neural origin tissue. Octamer-binding transcription factor 4 (OCT-4) immunostain was negative which confirmed the absence of immature neural tissue. We report a rare case of rapid progression of immature teratoma with splenic metastasis and peritoneal nodules found ultimately to be mature teratoma and associated GP. Recognition of rapidly growing teratoma with new lesions as potential GP is imperative to prevent misdiagnosis as recurrence or progression of disease. This case was treated with secondary debulking surgery which should be a consideration of management if surgically feasible.
Recent advances in molecular biology and treatment strategies for intracranial germ cell tumors

Abstract:Background Intracranial germ cell tumors (IGCTs) are a group of rare pediatric brain tumors which include various subtypes. The current understanding of the etiology of the tumors and their optimal management strategies remain controversial. Data sources The data on IGCTs were collected from articles published in the past 20 years, and the origin and etiology of IGCTs at molecular level as well as the relative roles of varied treatment strategies in different prognosis groups according to Matsutani’s classification were reviewed. Results Recent cellular and molecular evidence suggests that IGCTs may arise from the transformation of endogenous brain cells; and findings in the molecular characterization of IGCTs suggest roles of CCND2, RB1, and PRDM14 in the pathogenesis of IGCTs and identify the KIT/RAS and AKT1/mTOR pathways as potential therapeutic targets in future. According to Matsutani’s classification of IGCTs, the good prognosis group includes both germinomas and mature teratomas. For germinomas, both radiation alone and reduced-dose radiotherapy in combination with adjuvant chemotherapy are effective, while complete surgical excision is recommended for mature teratomas. In the intermediate prognosis group, immature teratoma has been successfully treated with gamma knife surgery. However, for intermediate prognosis IGCTs other than immature teratomas, gross total resection with adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy or gamma knife surgery may be necessary to achieve cure. In the poor prognosis group, survival outcomes are unsatisfactory, and complete surgical resection combined with more intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy remains the best available treatment option at this time. Conclusions IGCTs should be strictly classified according to their pathological categories before administering pathology-specific treatments. Although open microsurgical excision is the traditional surgical strategy for IGCTs, recent publications also support the role of endoscopic surgical options for pineal region IGCTs.
Status of hepatocellular carcinoma in South Korea.

Abstract:In South Korea, liver cancer is the 4th most common cancer in men and 6th most common cancer in women. However, the incidences of liver cancer among Korean men and women have been declining from 1999 to 2010. The reason for the declining incidence appears secondary to decreased hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection, which is the leading risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), with successful implementation of HBV vaccination since 1983. Despite recent advances in the treatment of HCC, including liver transplantation (LT), radiofrequency ablation (RFA), transarterial embolization, and the use of molecularly targeted agents, many patients cannot be cured due to the advanced stage of HCC at the time of diagnosis in South Korea. While the 5-year survival rate of HCC patients in Korea is relatively lower than other cancers, it has been gradually increased from the early 1990s to the late 2000s. The reason for the improvement in 5-year survival rates is attributed that early detection of HCC becomes possible by well-established surveillance program in high-risk populations for HCC in Korea. In Korea, national surveillance program for HCC was established in 2003, in which repeated applications of screening tests [serum α-fetoprotein (AFP) and liver ultrasound] at 6-month intervals have been recommended in patients at high risk for developing HCC, such as men and women older than 40 years of age with positive hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), anti-hepatitis C virus (HCV) or underlying liver cirrhosis. It is essential that the nationwide surveillance program for HCC should be effectively executed in high-risk patients for developing HCC. Optimal application of multidisciplinary team approach and active involvement in clinical studies with new agents in HCC patients are critically important not only for the management of advanced HCC patients but also for the improvement in natural history and therapeutic outcomes of HCC patients in the future.

Hyperbaric bupivacaine and hyperbaric cinchocaine: a comparison of their use for spinal anaesthesia.

Abstract:A new spinal analgesic formulation, 'heavy bupivacaine', was compared clinically with a commonly used agent. Sixty patients, who required spinal analgesia for transurethral prostatectomy, received either 1.5 ml of hyperbaric 0.5% cinchocaine (Nupercaine, Percaine, Dibucaine) in 6% dextrose or 2.5 ml of hyperbaric 0.5% bupivacaine (Marcain) in 8% dextrose. The onset, rate of rise, plateau height of the sensory block, reduction in blood pressure and peak expiratory flow rate, and the operative and post-operative blood loss did not differ significantly. Motor blockade was significantly less with bupivacaine. It is concluded that hyperbaric bupivacaine is an acceptable alternative to hyperbaric cinchocaine for spinal analgesia for transurethral prostatectomy.

Abstract:The most commonly reported congenital intracranial space occupying lesions are teratoma, glioma and neuroblastoma. Primary intracranial congenital glioblastoma (PICG) is one of the most lethal and extremely rare neoplasms. Most pediatricians and gynecologists are unable to detect it congenitally, posing an ominous risk of spread and disease severity. We aim to determine the clinical manifestations, number of reported cases, radiological findings and neuro-oncological management of PICG. A comprehensive literature search using PubMed Central and Google Scholar was done, retrieving 17 case reports and five case series of 31 patients with PICG and included using the Preferred Reporting items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, published between 2000 and 2023. The mean age at presentation was 86.00 ± 88.36 days, with both genders affected equally, i.e. 45.16%. The most common symptoms and signs at presentation were seizures (38.70%) and hydrocephalus (51.61%), respectively. Left hemispheric (48.38%), with frontoparietal involvement (16.12%) was the frequently affected site. MRI findings were suggestive of low intensity signal significant of hemorrhage or calcification and a heterogenous mass in 35.58% and 32.25% cases, respectively. Gross total resection (GTR) was achievable in 48.38% patients. Glial fibrillary acid protein and vimentin were positive in 45.16% and 29.03% cases, respectively. Intraoperative mortality and recurrence were noted in 25.80% and 9.68% of patients, respectively. The average follow up duration was 20.57 months. PICG has an extremely aggressive course of natural progression. Congenital presentation and its lack of awareness among clinicians is itself a challenge for disease management. Adjuvant chemo-radiotherapy has proven fruitful along with GTR. Post-operative CSF diversion is warranted.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the treatment effects of intracranial germ cell tumors (ICGCTs) using microsurgery.Methods A retrospective study was conducted on the data of 32 cases of ICGCT who were admitted to Yuquan Hospital of Tsinghua University from October 2012 to June 2016.Among them,there were 6 cases of germinoma,14 cases of mixed ICGCT,4 cases of mature teratoma,6 cases of immature teratoma,1 case of malignant teratoma and 1 case of choriocarcinoma.Preoperative chemotherapy was performed in 4 cases.Postoperatively,16 cases received chemotherapy,3 cases underwent local radiotherapy,and 2 cases underwent chemotherapy plus local radiotherapy.The surgical outcomes were followed up.Results For the 32 cases,the average follow-up period was (21.8 ±13.5) months.The gross total resection (GTR) group included 17 cases (53.1％) and the remaining 15 cases (46.9％) did not receive GTR.Out of the 12 patients of tumor recurrence,3 cases (25.0％) belonged to the GTR group and the other 9 cases (75.0％) were in the non-GTR group.The recurrence rates in the two groups (3/17 vs.9/15) were significantly different (P ＜0.05).Pathological results indicated that the "teratoma" components were contained in 22 cases,accounting for 66.8％ of all cases in this study and 84.6％ of non-germinoma of germ cell tumors (NGGCTs).In 2 cases of tumor recurrence,their pathological results were inconsistent with the original features.No severe surgical complications were observed.By the end of follow-up,6 patients (18.8％) died,among whom 5 did not receive postoperative chemoradiotherapy and died from tumor recurrence.Conclusions Microsurgery seems to be one important approach in treatment of ICGCTs,particularly NGGCTs.Patients might benefit from the GTR of the lesions.Individualized radiation and chemotherapy before and after surgery could help reduce the tumor recurrence.

Abstract:Growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) is a rare clinical entity that can occur in patients with a history of treatment for germ cell tumors (GCTs) and normalized serum tumor markers. Owing to the assortment of tissue types found in teratomas that may exhibit atypical features, distinguishing GTS from metastatic cancer in extragonadal masses can be challenging. Fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) can be useful for the rapid diagnosis of metastatic masses and has been effective in distinguishing GCTs from one another. However, discrepancies in cytologic and histologic diagnoses have been reported in the evaluation of GCTs by FNAB. The potential incomplete sampling of metastatic teratomas in GTS by FNAB along with features of cellular atypia commonly found in teratomas can lead to a misdiagnosis of metastatic carcinoma and drastically affect treatment. Correlation of cytologic, histologic, clinical, and radiographic findings are essential in evaluating metastatic masses in patients with a history of GCT. We report a case of a 46-year-old man with GTS originally diagnosed on FNAB as metastatic adenocarcinoma compatible with a colorectal primary tumor.
Giant Pediatric Supratentorial Tumor: Clinical Feature and Surgical Strategy

Abstract:Purpose: To analyze the clinical character of giant pediatric supratentorial tumor (GPST) and explore prognostic factors. Materials and methods: We analyzed the clinical data comprising of 35 cases of GPST from a single center between January 2015 and December 2020. The tumor volume was measured by 3D slicer software based on preoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) was used to evaluate the short-term prognosis. Result: The tumor volume varied from 27.3 to 632.8 ml (mean volume 129.8 ml/ median volume 82.8 ml). Postoperative histopathological types include ependymoma, pilocytic astrocytoma, choroid plexus papilloma (CPP), craniopharyngioma, primitive neuroectoderm tumor (PNET), choroid plexus carcinoma (CPC), immature teratoma, atypical teratoid rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT), anaplastic astrocytoma, and gangliocytoma. Tumors in children younger than 3 years and tumors located at the hemispheres appeared to be larger than their respective counterparts, though no statistical significance was found. A patient with giant immature teratoma died during the operation because of excessive bleeding. Postoperative complications include cerebrospinal fluid subgaleal collection/effusion, infection, neurological deficits, and seizures. The mean GOS score of patients with GPST in 6 months is 3.43 ± 1.12, and 83% of patients (29/35) showed improvement. Favorable GPST characteristics to indicated better GOS included small tumor (≤100 ml) (p = 0.029), low-grade (WHO I-II) (p = 0.001), and gross total resection (GTR) (p = 0.015). WHO grade was highly correlated with GOS score (correlation coefficient = -0.625, p < 0.001). GTR and tumor volume were also correlated (correlation coefficient = -0.428, p = 0.010). Conclusion: The prognosis of GPST is highly correlated with the histopathological type. Smaller tumors are more likely to achieve GTR and might lead to a higher GOS score. Early diagnosis and GTR of the tumor are important for GPST management.
