Abstract:The genus Streptomyces produces secondary metabolic compounds that are rich in biological activity. Many of these compounds are genetically encoded by large secondary metabolism biosynthetic gene clusters (smBGCs) such as polyketide synthases (PKS) and non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPS) which are modular and can be highly repetitive. Due to the repeats, these gene clusters can be difficult to resolve using short read next generation datasets and are often quite poorly predicted using standard approaches. We have sequenced the genomes of 13 Streptomyces spp. strains isolated from shallow water and deep-sea sponges that display antimicrobial activities against a number of clinically relevant bacterial and yeast species. Draft genomes have been assembled and smBGCs have been identified using the antiSMASH (antibiotics and Secondary Metabolite Analysis Shell) web platform. We have compared the smBGCs amongst strains in the search for novel sequences conferring the potential to produce novel bioactive secondary metabolites. The strains in this study recruit to four distinct clades within the genus Streptomyces. The marine strains host abundant smBGCs which encode polyketides, NRPS, siderophores, bacteriocins and lantipeptides. The deep-sea strains appear to be enriched with gene clusters encoding NRPS. Marine adaptations are evident in the sponge-derived strains which are enriched for genes involved in the biosynthesis and transport of compatible solutes and for heat-shock proteins. Streptomyces spp. from marine environments are a promising source of novel bioactive secondary metabolites as the abundance and diversity of smBGCs show high degrees of novelty. Sponge derived Streptomyces spp. isolates appear to display genomic adaptations to marine living when compared to terrestrial strains.

Abstract:Actinomycete bacteria from marine environments represent a potential source for new antibiotics and anti-tumor drugs. Ten strains belonging to the genus Streptomyces isolated from the marine sponge Antho dichotoma collected at the bottom of the Trondheim fjord (Norway) were screened for antibiotic activity. Since only few isolates proved to be bioactive in the conditions tested, we decided to gain an insight into their biosynthetic potential using genome sequencing and analysis. Draft genomes were analyzed for the presence of secondary metabolite biosynthesis gene clusters (BGCs) using antiSMASH software. BGCs specifying both known and potentially novel secondary metabolites were identified, suggesting that these isolates might be sources for new bioactive compounds. The results of this analysis also implied horizontal transfer of several gene clusters between the studied isolates, which was especially evident for the lantibiotic- and thiopeptide-encoding BGCs. The latter implies the significance of particular secondary metabolites for the adaptation of Streptomyces to the spatially enclosed marine environments such as marine sponges. Two bioactive isolates, one showing activity against both yeast and Bacillus subtilis, and one only against yeast were analyzed in details, leading to the identification of cycloheximide, linearmycins, and echinomycins that are presumably responsible for the observed bioactivities.

Abstract:Terrestrial actinobacteria have served as a primary source of bioactive compounds; however, a rapid decrease in the discovery of new compounds strongly necessitates new investigational approaches. One approach is the screening of actinobacteria from marine habitats, especially the members of the genus Streptomyces. Presence of this genus in a marine sponge, Haliclona sp., was investigated using culture-dependent and -independent techniques. 16S rRNA gene clone library analysis showed the presence of diverse Streptomyces in the sponge sample. In addition to the dominant genus Streptomyces, members of six different genera were isolated using four different media. Five phylogenetically new strains, each representing a novel species in the genus Streptomyces were also isolated. Polyphasic study suggesting the classification of two of these strains as novel species is presented. Searching the strains for the production of novel compounds and the presence of biosynthetic genes for secondary metabolites revealed seven novel compounds and biosynthetic genes with unique sequences. In these compounds, JBIR-43 exhibited cytotoxic activity against cancer cell lines. JBIR-34 and -35 were particularly interesting because of their unique chemical skeleton. To our knowledge, this is the first comprehensive study detailing the isolation of actinobacteria from a marine sponge and novel secondary metabolites from these strains.

Abstract:Streptomyces sp. RS2 was isolated from an unidentified sponge collected around Randayan Island, Indonesia. The genome of Streptomyces sp. RS2 consists of a linear chromosome of 9,391,717 base pairs with 71.9% of G + C content, 8270 protein-coding genes, as well as 18 rRNA and 85 tRNA loci. Twenty-eight putative secondary metabolites biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) were identified in the genome sequence. Nine of them have 100% similarity to BGCs for albaflavenone, α -lipomycin, coelibactin, coelichelin, ectoine, geosmin, germicidin, hopene, and lanthionine (SapB). The remaining 19 BGCs have low (< 50%) or moderate (50–80%) similarity to other known secondary metabolite BGCs. Biological activity assays of extracts from 21 different cultures of the RS2 strain showed that SCB ASW was the best medium for the production of antimicrobial and cytotoxic compounds. Streptomyces sp. RS2 has great potential to be a producer of novel secondary metabolites, particularly those with antimicrobial and antitumor activities.

Streptomyces marincola sp. nov., a Novel Marine Actinomycete, and Its Biosynthetic Potential of Bioactive Natural Products

Abstract:Marine actinomycetes are an important source of antibiotics, but many of them are yet to be explored in terms of taxonomy, ecology, and functional activity. In this study, two marine actinobacterial strains, designated SCSIO 64649 T and SCSIO 03032, were isolated, and the potential for bioactive natural product discovery was evaluated based on genome mining, compound detection, and antimicrobial activity. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain SCSIO 64649 T formed a single clade with SCSIO 03032 (similarity 99.5%) and sister clades with the species Streptomyces specialis DSM 41924 T (97.1%) and Streptomyces manganisoli MK44 T (96.8%). The whole genome size of strain SCSIO 64649 T was 6.63 Mbp with a 73.6% G + C content. The average nucleotide identity and digital DNA–DNA hybridization between strain SCSIO 64649 T and its closest related species were well below the thresholds recommended for species delineation. Therefore, according to the results of polyphasic taxonomy analysis, the strains SCSIO 64649 T and SCSIO 03032 are proposed to represent a novel species named Streptomyces marincola sp. nov. Furthermore, strains SCSIO 64649 T and 03032 encode 37 putative biosynthetic gene clusters, and in silico analysis revealed that this new species has a high potential to produce unique natural products, such as a novel polyene polyketide compounds, two mayamycin analogs, and a series of post-translationally modified peptides. In addition, other important bioactive natural products, such as heronamide F, piericidin A1, and spiroindimicin A, were also detected in strain SCSIO 64649 T . Finally, this new species’ metabolic crude extract showed a strong antimicrobial activity. Thanks to the integration of all these analyses, this study demonstrates that the novel species Streptomyces marincola has a unique and novel secondary metabolite biosynthetic potential that not only is beneficial to possible marine hosts but that could also be exploited for industrial applications.

Bioproduction and Characterization of Pigments from Streptomyces sp. Isolated from Marine Biotope

Abstract:Actinomycetes play a significant role in producing bioactive pigments. The present study was performed to screen for pigmented Streptomyces strains from marine environment followed by its extraction and characterization. Strains AJ6 and AJ7 were found to produce yellow color pigment (12.9 and 13.8 g/L, respectively) when subjected to submerged fermentation in optimized ISP2 medium at 28 ± 2°C for 3–7 days. Lambda max for extracellular and intracellular yellow colored pigment was read at 430 and 410 nm, respectively. Biological and chemical characterization of the extracted pigment confirmed the presence of bioactive compounds. Furthermore, the potential strains were identified and designated as Streptomyces maritimus AJ6 and Streptomyces fenghuangensis AJ7 using conventional and molecular techniques. Until now, there are no reports of colored bioactive metabolite extraction, purification and characterization from S. maritimus and S. fenghuangensis from marine ecosystem. The colored pigment showed high bioactivity such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiproteinase and antifouling activity against various clinical pathogenic strains, thereby proving its therapeutic importance which has not been reported previously. These strains can be employed in a variety of pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications as an environmentally safe alternative to synthetic hues.

Abstract:The streptomyces is one of the best characterized ubiquitous filamentous bacteria from the actinobacteriaclass. They are known to produce thousands of specialized metabolite biosynthesis gene clusters (SMBG). Their SMBG clusters have multiple activities ranging from antimicrobial, antitumor, antiviral and probiotic. Streptomyces strain and their isolates with interesting biological activities against gram-positive and gram-negative indicator strains was recently characterised. Currently, they are employed in more than half of all antibiotics used in human and veterinary medicine. With the increase in drug resistance bacteria, it is important to mine for new natural chemicals.In this study, screening via disk-diffusion agar method revealed that Streptomyces sp. PDH23 isolated from the Rhabdastrellaglobostellata marine sponge sample from Da Nang, Vietnam produce antimicrobial agents with a wide spectrum of activities. This species can produce highly active enzymes, which breakdown celluloses, amyloses and proteins. On top of that they are shown to restrict the grow of the gram positive Bacillus cereus ATCC14579 (BC), Staphylococcus aureus ATCC25923 (SA), the gram-negativeVibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC17802 (VP) and the Candida albicans ATCC10231 fungus (CA). They are antimethicillin-resistant S. aureus(MRSA) ATCC33591 andmethicillin-resistantS. epidermidis (MRSE) ATCC35984. The taxonomy of PDH23 was characterized using 16S rRNA analysis. Whole genome sequencing of PDH23 showed 8594820 base pairs with GC content of 72.03%. Mining of secondary metabolites reveals gene clusters responsible for the biosynthesis of known and/or novel secondary metabolites, including different types of terpene, NRPS-like , PKS, PKS-like, hglE-KS, betalactone, melanin, t1pks, t2pks, t3pks, nrps, indole, siderophore, bacteriocin, ectoine, butyrolactone, phenazine.

Abstract:Marine cyanobacteria are considered a prolific source of bioactive natural products with a range of biotechnological and pharmacological applications. However, data on the production of natural compounds from sponge-associated cyanobacteria are scarce. This study aimed to assess the potential of sponge-associated cyanobacteria strains representing different taxonomic groups for the production of bioactive compounds and the biological activity of their extracts. Phylogenetic analysis of sponge-associated cyanobacteria and screening for the presence of genes encoding non-ribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs) and polyketide synthases (PKSs) were performed. Methanol extracts of the sponge-associated strains were analyzed for cyanotoxin production and tested for antioxidant activity and cytotoxic activity against several human cancer cell lines and pathogenic bacteria. PKS were detected in all sponge-associated strains examined, indicating the metabolic potential of the isolates. PKS genes were more ubiquitous than NRPS genes. Cyanotoxins (i.e., cylindrospermopsin, anatoxin-a, nodularin, and microcystins) were not detected in any of the sponge-associated cyanobacterial strains. Strains belonging to Leptothoe, Pseudanabaena, and Synechococcus were found to have activity mainly against Staphylococcus aureus. In addition, sponge-associated Leptothoe strains (TAU-MAC 0915, 1015, 1115, and 1215) were found to be highly cytotoxic and in most cases more effective against human cancer cell lines than against normal cells. Extracts with the most promising bioactivity deserve further investigation in order to isolate and identify the bioactive molecule(s).

Abstract:Despite considerable advances in medicine and technology, humanity still faces many deadly diseases such as cancer and malaria. In order to find appropriate treatments, the discovery of new bioactive substances is essential. Therefore, research is now turning to less frequently explored habitats with exceptional biodiversity such as the marine environment. Many studies have demonstrated the therapeutic potential of bioactive compounds from marine macro- and microorganisms. In this study, nine microbial strains isolated from an Indian Ocean sponge, Scopalina hapalia, were screened for their chemical potential. The isolates belong to different phyla, some of which are already known for their production of secondary metabolites, such as the actinobacteria. This article aims at describing the selection method used to identify the most promising microorganisms in the field of active metabolites production. The method is based on the combination of their biological and chemical screening, coupled with the use of bioinformatic tools. The dereplication of microbial extracts and the creation of a molecular network revealed the presence of known bioactive molecules such as staurosporin, erythromycin and chaetoglobosins. Molecular network exploration indicated the possible presence of novel compounds in clusters of interest. The biological activities targeted in the study were cytotoxicity against the HCT-116 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines and antiplasmodial activity against Plasmodium falciparum 3D7. Chaetomium globosum SH-123 and Salinispora arenicola SH-78 strains actually showed remarkable cytotoxic and antiplasmodial activities, while Micromonospora fluostatini SH-82 demonstrated promising antiplasmodial effects. The ranking of the microorganisms as a result of the different screening steps allowed the selection of a promising strain, Micromonospora fluostatini SH-82, as a premium candidate for the discovery of new drugs.

Abstract:Much recent interest has arisen in investigating Streptomyces isolates derived from the marine environment in the search for new bioactive compounds, particularly those found in association with marine invertebrates, such as sponges. Among these new compounds recently identified from marine Streptomyces isolates are the octapeptidic surugamides, which have been shown to possess anticancer and antifungal activities. By employing genome mining followed by an one strain many compounds (OSMAC)-based approach, we have identified the previously unreported capability of a marine sponge-derived isolate, namely Streptomyces sp. SM17, to produce surugamide A. Phylogenomics analyses provided novel insights on the distribution and conservation of the surugamides biosynthetic gene cluster (sur BGC) and suggested a closer relatedness between marine-derived sur BGCs than their terrestrially derived counterparts. Subsequent analysis showed differential production of surugamide A when comparing the closely related marine and terrestrial isolates, namely Streptomyces sp. SM17 and Streptomyces albidoflavus J1074. SM17 produced higher levels of surugamide A than S. albidoflavus J1074 under all conditions tested, and in particular producing >13-fold higher levels when grown in YD and 3-fold higher levels in SYP-NaCl medium. In addition, surugamide A production was repressed in TSB and YD medium, suggesting that carbon catabolite repression (CCR) may influence the production of surugamides in these strains.

Abstract:Investigations of the bacterial family Micromonosporaceae have enabled the development of secondary metabolites critical to human health. Historical investigation of bacterial families for natural product discovery has focused on terrestrial strains, where time-consuming isolation processes often lead to the rediscovery of known compounds. To investigate the secondary metabolite potential of marine-derived Micromonosporaceae , 38 strains were sequenced, assembled and analysed using antiSMASH and BiG-SLiCE. BiG-SLiCE contains a near-comprehensive dataset of approximately 1.2 million publicly available biosynthetic gene clusters from primarily terrestrial strains. Our marine-derived Micromonosporaceae were directly compared to BiG-SLiCE's preprocessed database using BiG-SLiCE's query mode; genetic diversity within our strains was uncovered using BiG-SCAPE and metric multidimensional scaling analysis. Our analysis of marine-derived Micromonosporaceae emphasizes the clear need for broader genomic investigations of marine strains to fully realize their potential as sources of new natural products.

Abstract:Streptomyces , the largest genus in Actinobacteria, has been known as a chemically prolific bacterial group producing pharmaceutically important small molecules. Various endeavors have been made to discover novel secondary metabolites from strains inhabiting diverse environmental niches. In our course of collecting bacterial strains to discover biologically active molecules, a marine-derived Streptomyces sp. V17-9 was isolated from a seagrass collected from a beach on Côn Đảo, Vietnam. Phylogenetic and genomic analyses suggested the possibility that this strain might form a new taxonomic group with a few closely related unclassified strains. The genome sequence of strain V17-9 was predicted to have 20 putative biosynthetic gene clusters. A chemical investigation identified amino acid derivatives ( N -acetyltryptamine, N -acetyltyramine, and 6-prenyltryptophol) and siderophores (desferrioxamine E and spoxazomicin A) from culture extracts, linking gene clusters with actual productions. In particular, prenylated indole compounds were enhanced in production as part of metabolic conversion under supplement with ferric ions. Sequence similarity networks for indole and siderophore gene clusters showed their diversity and complexity in the genus Streptomyces . Phylogenomic analysis of gene cluster for 6-prenyltryptophol suggested strains of genomic potential for production of such compounds. They also suggested how these gene clusters may have shaped the biosynthesis of natural products. Chemotaxonomic profiling coupled with genome analysis would provide new insights into comparative studies on Actinobacteria producing prenylated indoles and siderophores.

SS13M. The structure of new compound was elucidated by the analysis of HRESIMS, 1D, and 2D NMR spectroscopic data, and the absolute configuration was determined by ECD calculations.
Genomic and AntiSMASH Analyses of Marine-Sponge-Derived Strain Aspergillus niger L14 Unveiling Its Vast Potential of Secondary Metabolites Biosynthesis

Abstract:Aspergillus niger is one of the most important sources of secondary metabolites (SMs), with a wide array of pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antitumor, immunomodulatory and antioxidant effects. However, the biosynthetic analysis of these bioactive components has been rarely reported owing to the lack of high-quality genome sequences and comprehensive analysis. In this study, the whole genome of one marine-sponge-derived strain A. niger L14 was sequenced and assembled as well as in-depth bioinformatic analysis. The results indicated that the sequence assembly of strain L14 generated one high-quality genome with a total size of 36.1 Mb, a G + C content of 45.3% and an N50 scaffold of 4.2 Mb. Gene annotation was extensively deployed using various BLAST databases, including non-redudant (Nr) protein sequence, nucleotide (Nt) sequence, Swiss-Prot, Gene ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) and Clusters of Orthologous Groups (COG) as well as Pathogen Host Interactions (PHI) and Carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZy) databases. AntiSMASH analysis revealed that this marine strain harbors a total of 69 SMs biosynthesis gene clusters (BGCs), including 17 PKSs, 18 NRPSs, 21 NRPS-likes, 9 terpenes, 2 indoles, 1 betalactone and 1 siderophore, suggesting its biosynthetic potential to produce a wide variety of SMs. These findings will assist in future investigations on the genetic basis of strain L14 and provide insights into its new bioactive SMs for new drug discovery.
Biodiversity of Actinomycetes Associated with Caribbean Sponges and Their Potential for Natural Product Discovery

Abstract:Marine actinomycetes provide a rich source of structurally unique and bioactive secondary metabolites. Numerous genera of marine actinomycetes have been isolated from marine sediments as well as several sponge species. In this study, 16 different species of Caribbean sponges were collected from four different locations in the coastal waters off Puerto Rico in order to examine diversity and bioactive metabolite production of marine actinomycetes in Caribbean sponges. Sediments were also collected from each location, in order to compare actinomycete communities between these two types of samples. A total of 180 actinomycetes were isolated and identified based on 16S rRNA gene analysis. Phylogenetic analysis revealed the presence of at least 14 new phylotypes belonging to the genera Micromonospora, Verruscosispora, Streptomyces, Salinospora, Solwaraspora, Microbacterium and Cellulosimicrobium. Seventy-eight of the isolates (19 from sediments and 59 from sponges) shared 100 % sequence identity with Micromonospora sp. R1. Despite having identical 16S rRNA sequences, the bioactivity of extracts and subsequent fractions generated from the fermentation of both sponge- and sediment-derived isolates identical to Micromonospora sp. R1 varied greatly, with a marked increase in antibiotic metabolite production in those isolates derived from sponges. These results indicate that the chemical profiles of isolates with high 16S rRNA sequence homology to known strains can be diverse and dependent on the source of isolation. In addition, seven previously reported dihydroquinones produced by five different Streptomyces strains have been purified and characterized from one Streptomyces sp. strain isolated in this study from the Caribbean sponge Agelas sceptrum.

Genome analysis of a halophilic bacterium Halomonas malpeensis YU-PRIM-29T reveals its exopolysaccharide and pigment producing capabilities

Abstract:Halomonas malpeensis strain YU-PRIM-29T is a yellow pigmented, exopolysaccharide (EPS) producing halophilic bacterium isolated from the coastal region. To understand the biosynthesis pathways involved in the EPS and pigment production, whole genome analysis was performed. The complete genome sequencing and the de novo assembly were carried out using Illumina sequencing and SPAdes genome assembler (ver 3.11.1) respectively followed by detailed genome annotation. The genome consists of 3,607,821 bp distributed in 18 contigs with 3337 protein coding genes and 53% of the annotated CDS are having putative functions. Gene annotation disclosed the presence of genes involved in ABC transporter-dependent pathway of EPS biosynthesis. As the ABC transporter-dependent pathway is also implicated in the capsular polysaccharide (CPS) biosynthesis, we employed extraction protocols for both EPS (from the culture supernatants) and CPS (from the cells) and found that the secreted polysaccharide i.e., EPS was predominant. The EPS showed good emulsifying activities against the petroleum hydrocarbons and its production was dependent on the carbon source supplied. The genome analysis also revealed genes involved in industrially important metabolites such as zeaxanthin pigment, ectoine and polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biosynthesis. To confirm the genome data, we extracted these metabolites from the cultures and successfully identified them. The pigment extracted from the cells showed the distinct UV-Vis spectra having characteristic absorption peak of zeaxanthin (λmax 448 nm) with potent antioxidant activities. The ability of H. malpeensis strain YU-PRIM-29T to produce important biomolecules makes it an industrially important bacterium.
Microbial communities associated with marine sponges from diverse geographic locations harbour biosynthetic novelty

Abstract:Marine sponges are a prolific source of biologically active small molecules, many of which originate from sponge-associated microbes. Identifying the producing microbes is a key challenge in developing sustainable routes for production and isolation of sponge-associated metabolites, and requires application of several computational tools. To facilitate these analyses, we developed MetaSing, a reproducible singularity-based pipeline for assembly, identification of high quality metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs), and analysis biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs) from metagenomic short read data. We apply this pipeline to metagenome datasets from 16 marine sponges collected from New Zealand, Tonga and the Mediterranean Sea. Our analysis yielded 643 MAGs representing 510 species. Of the 2,670 BGCs identified across all samples, 70.8% were linked to a MAG, enabling taxonomic characterisation. Further comparison of BGCs to those identified from previously sequenced microbes revealed high biosynthetic novelty in variety of underexplored phyla including Poribacteria, Acidobacteriota and Dadabacteria. Alongside the observation that each sample contains unique biosynthetic potential, this holds great promise for natural product discovery and for furthering the understanding of different sponge holobionts.

Abstract:Sponges have long been recognized as a rich source of bioactive natural products. Various studies suggest that many of these compounds are produced by symbiotic bacteria. However, substance supplies and functional insights about the producers remain limited because cultivation remains unsuccessful. To identify alternative, sustainable sources of sponge-derived polyketides, we computationally analyzed 5289 characterized and orphan trans-acyltransferase polyketide synthases, enzymes with widespread roles in polyketide biosynthesis by bacterial symbionts. The analytical workflow predicted marine animal-derived Acidobacteria of the family Acanthopleuribacteraceae with large sets of biosynthetic gene clusters to be enriched in sponge-type chemistry. Targeted compound isolation from a chiton-associated strain yielded new congeners of the phorboxazoles and calyculins, potent and scarce cytotoxins exclusively known from sponges. These first natural products of Acidobacteria and new coral metagenomic data on a third family member suggest animal-associated Acanthopleuribacteraceae as a rich source of sponge-type as well as novel metabolites

Abstract:Marine bacteria are a significant source of bioactive compounds for various biotechnological applications. Among these, actinomycetes have been found to produce a wide range of secondary metabolites of interest. Saccharopolyspora is one of the genera of actinomycetes that has been recognized as a potential source of these compounds. This study reports the characterization and genomic analysis of Saccharopolyspora sp. NFXS83, a marine bacterium isolated from seawater from the Sado estuary in Portugal. The NFXS83 strain produced multiple functional and stable extracellular enzymes under high-salt conditions, showed the ability to synthesize auxins such as indole-3-acetic acid, and produced diffusible secondary metabolites capable of inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, when Phaeodactylum tricornutum was co-cultivated with strain NFXS83 a significant increase in microalgae cell count, cell size, auto-fluorescence, and fucoxanthin content was observed. Detailed analysis revealed the presence of clusters involved in the production of various secondary metabolites, including extracellular enzymes, antimicrobial compounds, terpenes, and carotenoids in the genome of strain NFXS83. Ultimately, these findings indicate that Saccharopolyspora sp. NFXS83 has a significant potential for a wide range of marine biotechnological applications.

Abstract:Streptomyces sp. SCSIO ZS0520 is a deep-sea hydrothermal vent-derived actinomycete. Our previous metabolism investigation showed that Streptomyces sp. SCSIO ZS0520 is a producer of cytotoxic actinopyrones. Here, another four types of secondary metabolites were identified, including six salinomycin isomers (2−7), the macrolide elaiophylin (8), the triterpene N-acetyl-aminobacteriohopanetriol (9), and the pyrone minipyrone (10). Among them, compounds 2−6 and 10 are new compounds. To understand the biosynthetic pathway of these compounds, a bioinformatic analysis of the whole genome was carried out, which identified 34 secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters. Next, the biosynthetic pathways responsive to four types of products were deduced on the basis of gene function predictions and structure information. Taken together, these findings prove the metabolite potential of ZS0520 and lay the foundations to solve the remaining biosynthetic issues in four types of marine natural products.
