Abstract:Due to their excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability, aliphatic polyesters are widely used in the biomedical, packaging and agricultural fields, which are usually accessed by the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactones and the catalysts particularly play an important role. Herein a series of quinolinyl-urea catalysts have been synthesized via the reaction between isocyanate and aminoquinoline with an amino group at different substitution positions and characterized. In combination with 7-methyl-1, 5, 7-triazabicyclo[4,4,0]dec-5-ene (MTBD) as a cocatalyst and benzyl alcohol (BnOH) as an initiator, 1-(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-3-(quinolin-3-yl)urea (3-QU) was observed to be most active for the ROP of δ-valerolactone (δ-VL). The polymerization conditions were optimized by varying the type of organic base, catalyst concentration and reaction temperature. By changing the ratio of [M]0/[I], linear polyvalerolactones (PVLs) with different molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distribution were prepared. The kinetic and chain extension experiments were carried out to prove the “living”/controllable feature. And the NMR experiments were used to support the proposal of possible mechanism.

Abstract:(Thio)urea/base systems have been widely used in the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactones based on their superior performance in activity and selectivity. Herein, a pyridyl-urea (6C-PU)/7-methyl-1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene catalytic system is used to prepare the polyesters with cyclic topology via the ROP of lactones in the absence of initiator under solvent-free conditions. The catalytic system shows high activity in the ROP of delta-valerolactone (delta-VL) and cyclic polyvalerolactones (PVLs) with high molecular weights and narrow molecular weight distribution are obtained despite the existence of some linear products generated during the precipitation process. The structure of the resulting polymers is determined by proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance spectra, matrix assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry, and intrinsic viscosity studies. A possible mechanism is proposed on the basis of NMR analysis and characteristics of polymerization. Thermal and mechanical properties of cyclic PVLs are investigated through differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and tensile test.

Abstract:5-Hydroxylevulinic acid (5-HLA) was synthesized via modified bromination and hydrolysis using levulinic acid (LA) as starting material. Based on the hydroxyl and the carboxyl groups of the 5-HLA, poly(5-hydroxylevulinic acid), a novel aliphatic polyester, was synthesized by direct polycondensation using SnCl_2·2H_2O as catalyst. In addition, 1,6,9,13-tetraoxadispiro [4.2.4.2]tetradecane-2,10-dione (or altaicadispirolactone), a dimer of the 5-HLA, was synthesized by cyclolactonization catalyzed by BF_3·OEt_2. Altaicadispirolactone is one of the chemical components of Anemone altaica C.A.May, a traditional Chinese medicinal material. Structures of the dimer and the polymer were characterized with GC-MS, 1H NMR, FT-IR, element analysis and GPC, respectively. Two plausible mechanisms for the cyclolactonization reaction were presented.

Abstract:Fatty acid-derived cyclooctenes, including n-hexanoic acid (M1), n-octanoic acid (M2), lauric acid (M3), and palmitic acid (M4), were prepared as monomers and polymerized by ring-opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) using Grubbs second-generation catalyst (G2). In all the cases, the regio-irregular unsaturated polymers with pendent linear branches were obtained, which could be saturated by chemical hydrogenation with TSH/TPA in high conversion, yielding ethylene/vinyl ester copolymers with pendent linear branches on precisely every eighth backbone carbon. Both unsaturated and saturated polymers were amorphous, and their structures were characterized by FTIR, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectra, and elemental analysis. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to study their thermal properties. The chain length of branches greatly affected the thermal properties of polymers. After hydrogenation, the thermal degradation stability of polymers was relatively improved. Abstract:3-Ethylidene-6-vinyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-one (EVL) is a disubstituent dlactone derived from CO2 and 1,3-butadiene. In this contribution, we report the ringopening polymerization (ROP) of EVL with beta-butyrolactone (BBL) as the comonomer catalyzed by scandium triflate [Sc(OTf)(3)]. The obtained polyester bearing active unsaturated bonds has the weight-average molecular weight (M-w) of 4.1 kg/mol, in which the EVL content is 38 mol % in accordance with the initial ratio of 40 mol %. The copolymers are characterized in detail and the cationic ROP mechanism has been confirmed by kinetic study, chain end analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The modification of the unsaturated bonds in EVL repeating units via the thioene click reaction with mercapto-ended polysarcosine polysarcosine yields the amphiphilic grafting polymers. It is a CO2 fixation approach toward the functional poly(EVL-r-BBL) that is promising as a degradable polyester precursor for adhesive or surface-coating materials.
Enabling Closed‐Loop Circularity of "Non‐Polymerizable" α, β‐Conjugated Lactone towards High‐performance Polyester with the Assistance of Cyclopentadiene

Abstract:Chemical recycling of polymers to monomers presents a promising solution to the escalating crisis associated with plastic waste. Despite considerable progress made in this field, the primary efforts have been focused on redesigning new monomers to produce readily recyclable polymers. In contrast, limited research into the potential of seemingly "non-polymerizable" monomers has been conducted. Herein, we propose a paradigm that leverages a "chaperone"-assisted strategy to establish closed-loop circularity for a "non-polymerizable" α, β-conjugated lactone, 5,6-dihydro-2H-pyran-2-one (DPO). The resulting PDPO, a structural analogue of poly(δ-valerolactone) (PVL), exhibits enhanced thermal properties with a melting point (Tm) of 114 oC and a decomposition temperature (Td,5%) of 305 oC. Notably, owing to the structural similarity between DPO and δ-VL, the copolymerization generates semi-crystalline P(DPO-co-VL)s irrespective of the DPO incorporation ratio. Intriguingly, the inherent C=C bonds in P(DPO-co-VL)s enable their convenient post-functionalization via Michael-addition reaction. Lastly, PDPO was demonstrated to be chemically recyclable via ring-closing metathesis (RCM), representing a significant step towards the pursuit of enabling the closed-loop circularity of "non-polymerizable"lactones without altering the ultimate polymer structure.

Abstract:alpha-Ethylidene-delta-vinyl-delta-valerolactone (EVL) is the only intermediate to synthesize copolymers of CO2 with 1,3-butadiene whose ring-opening polymerization (ROP), however, is obstructed by the tiglate group. In the contribution, EVL derivatives are synthesized through a Michael addition reaction to saturate the conjugated double bond as well as introduce various groups to synthesize polyesters with designable molecular weights (M-n = 6.9-12.8 kgmol(-1)), narrow dispersities (& Dstrok; = 1.08-1.19), tunable glass-transition temperatures (T-g = -45-3 degrees C), and excellent refractive indices (n(d) = 1.64-1.79) via living and controlled ROP. The obtained polyesters are able to be recycled to the corresponding monomers, which can prepare comparable polymers with identical side groups, realizing the homorecycling. In addition, the retro-Michael addition reaction is established and employed, realizing heterorecycling, which can alter properties during recycling. We propose a strategy for EVL derivatives and establish the corresponding polyester platform with not only high refractive indices and tunable T(g)s, but also the ability to tailor properties during recycling.
Synthesis and Post-Functionalization of Poly(conjugated ester)s Based on 3-Methylene-1,5-dioxepan-2-one

Abstract:Poly(α-methylene ester)s are an attractive type of functional aliphatic polyesters that represent a platform for the fabrication of various biodegradable and biomedical polymers. Herein, we report the controlled ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of a seven-membered α-methylene lactone (3-methylene-1,5-dioxepan-2-one, MDXO) that was synthesized based on the Baylis-Hillman reaction. The chemoselective ROP of MDXO was catalyzed by diphenyl phosphate (DPP) at 60 °C or stannous octoate (Sn(Oct)2) at 130 °C, generating α-methylene-containing polyester (PMDXO) with a linear structure and easily tunable molar mass. The ring-opening copolymerization of MDXO with ε-caprolactone or 1,5-dioxepan-2-one was also performed under the catalysis of DPP or Sn(Oct)2 to afford copolymers with different compositions and sequence structures that are influenced by the kinds of monomers and catalysts. PMDXO is a slowly crystallizable polymer with a glass transition temperature of ca. -33 °C, and its melting temperature and enthalpy are significantly influenced by the thermal history. The thermal properties of the copolymers are dependent on their composition and sequence structure. Finally, the post-modification of PMDXO based on the thiol-Michael addition reaction was briefly explored using triethylamine as a catalyst. Given the optimized condition, PMDXO could be dually modified to afford biodegradable polyesters with different functionalities.

Abstract:A novel metal-free and protecting-group-free synthesis method to prepare telechelic thiol-functionalized polyesters is developed by employing organocatalysis. A scope of Brønsted acids, including trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (1), HCl.Et2O (2), diphenyl phosphate (3), γ-resorcylic acid (4) and methanesulfonic acid (5), are evaluated to promote ring-opening polymerization of ε-caprolactone with unprotected 6-mercapto-1-hexanol as the multifunctional initiator. Among them, diphenyl phosphate (3) exhibits great chemoselectivity and efficiency, which allows for simply synthesis of thiol-terminated poly(ε-caprolactone) with near-quantitative thiol fidelity, full monomer conversion, controlled molecular weight and narrow polydispersity. Kinetic study confirms living/controlled nature of the organocatalyzed chemoselective polymerizations. Density functional theory calculation illustrates that the chemoselectivity of diphenyl phosphate (3) is attributed to the stronger bifunctional activation of monomer and initiator/chain-end as well as the lower energy in hydroxyl pathway than thiol one. Moreover, series of tailor-made telechelic thiol-terminated poly(δ-valerolactone) and block copolymers are efficiently generated under mild conditions.

Abstract:AbstractIt is significant and challenging to use CO2 to produce polymeric materials, especially with olefins. Here, a novel strategy named “scrambling polymerizations” is designed and performed for the copolymerization of a CO2‐and‐1,3‐butadiene‐derived valerolactone, 3‐ethylidene‐6‐vinyltetrahydro‐2H‐pyran‐2‐one (EVL), with ϵ‐caprolactone (CL) to prepare polyesters. Anionic ring‐opening polymerization of CL and conjugated addition oligomerization of EVL take place individually to form PCL and EVL oligomers, respectively. Then EVL oligomers insert into PCL by transesterification resulting in polyester P(CL‐co‐EVL) with a tunable topology and composition. The non‐cytotoxic and degradable polyester network with elongation at break of >600 % can be used as an elastomer. We propose a method to provide polyester elastomers from CO2 and olefins for the first time, and expand the potential of transformation from sustainable feedstocks to polymeric materials.

Abstract:As a substituted‐δ‐valerolactone, α‐ethylidene‐δ‐vinyl‐δ‐valerolactone (EVL) provides a method of utilizing carbon dioxide with 1,3‐butadiene to produce functional polymers. Its di‐ene‐substituted lactone ring was considered inactive in polymerization in the past two decades, while successful polymerization attempts of EVL have been reported very recently. Novel synthetic strategies and functional polymers from EVL have been developed. The ring‐opening reactions of EVL and the corresponding polymers as well as the ring‐opening (co)polymerizations of EVL and its derivatives are highlighted in this review. The obtained functional polymers with or without facile post‐polymerization modification possess unique properties, such as amphipathy, elasticity, peel resistance, etc., allowing for application potential in various fields.

Abstract:Being a disubstituted delta-valerolactone synthesized by the telomerization of carbon dioxide with 1,3-butadiene, 3-ethylidene-6-vinyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-one (EVL) contains a six-membered ring and two unsaturated groups. This report describes the synthesis of an amphiphilic graft copolymer by the combination of thiol-ene click polymerization and ring-opening grafting reaction of EVL, ethyldithiol (EDT), and methoxy polyethylene glycol (mPEG-OH). The alternating copolymer of P(EVL-alt-EDT) with 17.9 wt% CO2 content and weight-average molecular weight (M-w) of 7 kg/mol was prepared by means of the free radical thiol-ene click polymerization of EVL with EDT initiated by 2,2-dimethoxy-1,2-diphenylethanone under UV irradiation. The following alcoholysis of the lactone ring of P(EVL-alt-EDT) backbone by mPEG-OH is catalyzed by 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene, producing the amphiphilic graft copolymer P(EVL-alt-EDT)-g-PEG(750) with M-w of 12 kg/mol. The polymers are characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, Fourier transform infrared, matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectra, size exclusion chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. The one-pot orthogonal strategy is a new utilization of EVL in synthetic polymers and it is significant to the carbon dioxide transformation.

Abstract:The monomers δ‐valerolactone (δ‐VL) and ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) can be effectively polymerized into high molecular weight polyesters with a low dispersion index through ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) catalyzed by a TBD/TCC bimolecular system. Bio‐based plastics have received much attraction because they are an alternative to petroleum‐based plastics in recent years. Among them, aliphatic polyesters have garnered the most attention due to their excellent properties. Polyester is primarily synthesized through ring opening polymerization of monomer, and the catalysts used are mostly synthesized through "click" reaction in the laboratory, which exhibits inferior activity and little commercial value. Herein, a facile approach was developed for the synthesis of high molecular‐weight cyclic aliphatic polyesters, specifically poly(valerolactone‐co‐caprolactone) with varying compositions. This involved the ring‐opening copolymerization of ε‐caprolactone (ε‐CL) and δ‐valerolactone (δ‐VL) in the absence of an initiator with commercial hydrogen bond donor triclorocarban and an organic base. The structure and properties of the prepared cyclic polyester were investigated using GPC, 13C NMR, 1H NMR, MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry, TOF‐SIMS mass spectrometry, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X‐ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The results show that the molecular weight of cyclic polyester can rapidly exceed 40 kDa, with a PDI of approximately 1.10. In comparison to linear polyester, it has a higher melting point and superior thermodynamic properties, thus presenting greater application potential. Finally, based on nuclear magnetic resonance titration, the potential catalytic processes and mechanisms of bimolecular systems on monomers in different environments were discussed. This study not only offers new insights into the structure and properties of cyclic polyesters, but also presents novel bimolecular catalytic systems using commercial urea hydrogen bond donors for the synthesis of cyclic polymer polyesters.

Phenol-Yne Click Polymerization: an Efficient Technique to Facilely Access Regio- and Stereoregular Poly(Vinylene Ether Ketone)S

Abstract:Alkyne-based click polymerizations have been well-established. However, in order to expand the family to synthesize polymers with new structures and novel properties, new types of click polymerizations are highly demanded. In this study, for the first time, we established a new efficient and powerful phenol-yne click polymerization. The activated diynes and diphenols could be facilely polymerized in the presence of the Lewis base catalyst of 4-dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) under mild reaction conditions. Regio-and stereoregular poly(vinylene ether ketone)s (PVEKs) with high molecular weights (up to 35200) were obtained in excellent yields (up to 99.0 %). The reaction mechanism was well explained under the assistance of density functional theory (DFT) calculation. Furthermore, since the vinyl ether sequence acts as a stable but acid-liable linkage, the polymers could be decomposed under acid conditions, rendering them applicable in biomedical and environmental fields.
Facile Synthesis of Functional Poly( Ε -Caprolactone) Via Janus Polymerization

Abstract:Functionalized aliphatic polyesters attract increasing attentions as biocompatible and biodegradable polymers with broad applications in biological science. In this contribution, we propose a facile and controllable synthetic technique for functional poly(ε- caprolactone) (PCL) via Janus polymerization, which comprises cationic ring-opening copolymerization (ROP) of ε-caprolactone (CL) with 3,3-bis(chloromethyl) oxacyclobutane (CO) and (coordinated) anionic ROP of CL at a single propagating chain by rare earth metal triflates (RE(OTf)3) and propylene oxide, thus generating block copolymers in one step. The compositions of the copolymers of poly(CLb-( CL-r-CO)) can be modulated by various RE(OTf)3. Scandium triflate catalyzes Janus polymerization to yield the copolymers containing the highest CO contents among all the RE(OTf)3 catalysts used with complete conversion of CL. The chlorine in CO repeating units is ready to be transferred into azide group which affords the modification sites to react with 9-ethynyl-9-fluorenol and mPEG-alkyne, respectively, via copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction with quantitative conversions of azides, as confirmed by FTIR analyses. According to NMR and SEC analyses, copolymers (PCC-g-PEG) bearing a homo-PCL block and a PEG-grafted block of poly(CO-co-CL) demonstrate well-defined chemical structures. The investigations on thermal properties reveal the strong phase separation between PCL and PEG blocks. The amphiphilic PCC-g-PEG is able to self-assemble into micelles in aqueous solution while cylindrical and lamellar morphologies are observed in bulk. We provide an efficient protocol to synthesize functional PCL combining onestep Janus polymerization and precise post-polymerization click reaction.
Fully Bio-based Poly(ketal-ester)s by Ring-opening Polymerization of a Bicylcic Lactone from Glycerol and Levulinic Acid

Abstract:A fully renewable bio-based bicyclic lactone containing a five-membered cyclic ketal moiety, 7-methyl-3,8,10-trioxabicyclo[5.2.1]decan-4-one (TOD), was synthesized through a two-step acid-catalyzed process from glycerol and levulinic acid. The ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of TOD at 30°C with benzyl alcohol (BnOH) as the initiator and 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) as the catalyst can afford high molar mass PTOD with a cis-2.4-disubstitued 2-methyl 1,3-dioxolane moiety in its repeating unit. PTOD is an amorphous polymer with a glass transition temperature (Tg ) of 13°C. It can be hydrolyzed into structurally defined small molecules under acidic or basic conditions by the selective cleavage of either the cyclic ketal or the ester linkage respectively. The TBD-catalyzed copolymerization of L-lactide (L-LA) and TOD at -20°C was investigated. It was confirmed that L-LA polymerized quickly with racemization to form PLA, followed by a slow incorporation of TOD into the formed PLA chains via transesterification. By varying the feed ratios of L-LA to TOD, a series of random copolymers (PLA-co-PTOD) with different TOD incorporation ratios and tunable Tg s were obtained. Under acidic conditions, PLA-co-PTOD degrades much faster than PLA via the selective cleavage of the cyclic ketal linkages. This work provides insights for the development of more sustainable and acid-accelerated degradable alternatives to aliphatic polyesters.

Abstract:The selective ring-opening homo-polymerization of CO2/butadiene-derived lactone monomers has emerged as an appealing approach for synthesizing chemically recyclable polyesters from CO2. Previous research has only concentrated on di-substituted six-membered lactones. In this study, a newly designed tri-substituted six-membered CO2/butadiene-derived lac-tone monomer, 3,3,6-triethyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-one (Et-HL), was polymerized successfully through selective ring-opening polymerization (ROP) using NaOMe, tBu-P4/BnOH, or tBu-P4. The tBu-P4/BnOH affords linear-poly(Et-HL) with typical living polymerization behaviors, while a maximum number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 1050 kg mol-1 and a dispersity (Đ) of 1.52 was achieved for cyclic-poly(Et-HL) using only tBu-P4. Similar thermal properties were found between poly(Et-HL) and polyHL derived from Et-HL’s di-substituted precursor, 3,6-diethyltetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-one (HL). The ceiling temperature (Tc) was calculated to be 265 K (-8℃) at [Et-HL]0 = 1.0 mol L-1 in THF for poly(Et-HL), which is only slightly lower than HL (Tc = -6℃, [HL]0 = 1.0 mol L-1). Catalytic methods were developed for monomer recycling of both linear- and cyclic-poly(Et-HL). Direct observation of key intermediates by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) reveals the mechanistic differences between Et-HL and HL. tBu-P4 efficiently promotes the deprotonation of the α-hydrogen adjacent to the carbonyl in HL, presumably yielding an enolate as the nucleophile responsible for the initial ring opening in the for-mation of cyclic-polyHL. However, Et-HL's additional substituent prohibits this process, instead favoring direct attack on the ester bond of the monomer by tBu-P4 in the initial ring opening to afford cyclic-poly(Et-HL). A tail-to-head strain-releasing mechanism was proposed to rationalize the selective formation of cyclic polymers for both HL and Et-HL using only tBu-P4. In the case of linear polymers, HL and Et-HL share a similar mechanism involving initiator anion attacking the monomer ester bond. The topological shift from cyclic to linear for poly(Et-HL) is more sensitive to initiator: tBu-P4 ratio (1:1 vs polyHL's 10:1), reflecting the impact of the additional substituent in Et-HL. This work represents the first example for the ROP of six-membered lactones bearing more than 2 substituents, simultaneously offering fundamental understand-ing for the Thorpe-Ingold effect on the ROP of CO2/butadiene-derived six-membered lactones for the first time.

Abstract:The properties of polyesters can be enhanced by the introduction of various functional groups, while transformations of a diazo group via a carbene intermediate provide efficient approaches for functional group introduction. We herein report the first ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of 5, 6, and 7-membered alpha-diazo lactones using t-BuOK as the initiator. The diazo groups can be well tolerated in the polymerization condition, leading to stable, diazo-containing polyesters that can be readily isolated and characterized. Post-polymerization transformations of the diazo groups, including [1,2]-hydrogen migration, Si-H insertions, and S-H insertions, further provide polyesters that are nontrivial to access. Further, the introduction of diazo groups generally increases the ring strain of lactones and alters their polymerizability, which is more pronounced for alpha-diazo gamma-butyrolactone. The ROP of alpha-diazo delta-valerolactone generates a new type of diazo-containing polyesters that can be depolymerized upon heating.
Direct Coupling of Biobased Bifunctional Hydroxy-Aldehyde Monomers to Chemically Recyclable Alipharomatic Polyesters via Dehydrogenative Polycondensation

Abstract:A series of biobased alipharomatic polyesters using vanillin-derived bifunctional hydroxy-aldehyde monomers (M1)s as the starting materials are synthesized through direct dehydrogenative polycondensation with commercially available Milstein catalyst. The thermal properties of the resulting P(M1)s can be precisely tuned by altering the alkylene length of the monomers, with a maximum T g value reaching 37.9 °C. Compared to the reported vanillic acid-based polyesters, the synthesis of M1 is less labor-intensive, and the polymerization conditions are milder than those of conventional polycondensation. Additionally, experimental results and mechanism elucidations revealed four different types of ester linkages in the P(M1) chain. The ruthenium dihydride complex has been identified as the true active species required for promoting the polymerization of hydroxy-aldehyde monomers into polyesters. Moreover, this catalytic system also exhibits depolymerization capability toward resulting polyester back into vanillin-derived diol (M2), which can then be repolymerized into a polyester P(M2) with an identical structure to that of P(M1), thus demonstrating a rare example where two different monomers yield the same polymer product. This study presents a green and economical approach to the preparation and recycling of widely used alipharomatic polyesters.

Abstract:Polyesters with cyclic structures in the main chain typically possess superior mechanical and thermal properties together with chemical recyclability. Ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of bridged or fused bicyclic lactones is a simple, and in most cases controlled method to synthesize polyesters with alicyclic moieties in the polymer backbone. The stereochemistry of the alicyclic structures has a great effect on the polymer properties, which can be regulated by varying the polymerization conditions. Here, we report a systematic investigation on the ROP of 2-oxabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-3-one ( [2.2.2]VL ) under different conditions. When initiated by n -butyl lithium ( n -BuLi) or catalyzed by trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (TfOH) in the presence of benzyl alcohol, P[2.2.2]VLs containing all cis -1,4 disubstituted cyclohexane ring were obtained. However, P[2.2.2]VLs initiated by sodium methoxide (MeONa) or catalyzed by organic superbase contained both cis and trans isomeric structural units. The cis to trans transformation mechanism under these conditions was manifested, and the effect of stereochemical variations on the properties of P[2.2.2]VL was revealed. The stereoregular P[2.2.2]VLs , both cis and trans , exhibited higher crystallinity and melting temperatures ( T m ) than those of the stereoirregular isomers. Finally, the degradation of P[2.2.2]VL with acid at high temperature could recover 3-cyclohexenecarboxylic acid.
