Abstract:Autopsy rates have not been reported at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) for more than three decades. Declining rates have been documented worldwide, and so we sought to define autopsy rates over the past three decades at UHWI. We conducted a retrospective analysis of the numbers and types of autopsies performed on deaths occurring in the institution, and calculated the relevant autopsy rates. The overall autopsy rate for the study period was 52.7%, with a statistically significant decline from 65.3% in the first decade to 39.3% in the third. The non-coroner's autopsy rate showed a concomitant decline from 57.5% to 31.5%, while the coroner's autopsy rate remained stable with a slight increase from 28.1% to 29.1%. The factors that might have led to the decline of the autopsy are discussed.

Abstract:Conjugated nitroalkenes and nitrodienes undergo smooth α-hydrazination with azodicarboxylates through an imidazole catalyzed carbon-heteroatom bond formation under Morita-Baylis-Hillman conditions. The resulting hydrazinonitroalkenes take part in 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with azide under mild conditions to give hydrazinotriazoles. A [3 + 2] annulation with phenols and naphthols involving Michael addition and cyclization as the key steps lead to arenodihydrofurans bearing a key hydrazinodicarboxylate moiety. Both regioisomers of naphthodihydrofurans could be synthesized by our methodology by employing the appropriate naphthol.
Effectiveness of aerobic exercise in the prevention and treatment of postpartum depression: Meta-analysis and network meta-analysis

Abstract:Background: Aerobic exercise is widely recognized for improving mental health and reducing negative emotions, including anxiety. However, research on its role in preventing and treating postpartum depression (PPD) has yielded inconsistent results. Some studies show positive effects on PPD symptoms, while others find limited impact, suggesting various factors at play, such as exercise type, intensity, and individual differences. To address this gap, our study aims to comprehensively gather evidence on the preventive and therapeutic effects of aerobic exercise for PPD. We'll focus on differences in exercise program design and implementation, exploring how these factors impact intervention outcomes. By identifying effective exercise approaches, we aim to provide more comprehensive exercise prescription recommendations for this vulnerable population. Methods: We conducted a quantitative systematic review of the study in 5 representative databases for the effect of aerobic exercise on PPD. Meta-analysis and network meta-analysis were performed with Review-Manager.5.4 and Stata.16.0 software, respectively. This study has been registered on the official Prospero website, and the registration code is CRD42023398221. Results: Twenty-six studies with 2,867 participants were eventually included and the efficacy of aerobic exercise in preventing and treating postpartum depression is significant compared to standard care. (MD = -1.90; 95%CL: -2.58 to -1.21; I2 = 86%). Subgroup analysis suggests that the intervention objective (prevention vs. treatment) of exercise could potentially be a source of heterogeneity in this study, as the "Test for subgroup difference" revealed the presence of significant distinctions (p = 0.02<0.05). The "Test for subgroup difference" yielded non-significant results for both the supervised vs. unsupervised subgroup comparison (p = 0.55 > 0.05) and the individual vs. team subgroup comparison (p = 0.78 > 0.05). Nonetheless, when assessing their effect sizes [Subtotal (95%CL)], the supervised exercise group [-1.66 (-2.48, -0.85)] exhibited a slightly better performance than the unsupervised exercise group [-1.37 (-1.86, -0.88)], while the team exercise group [-1.43 (-1.94, -0.93)] slightly outperformed the individual exercise group [-1.28 (-2.23, -0.33)]. Network meta-analysis indicated that moderate intensity (35~45 min) group demonstrated a more pronounced intervention effect compared to low intensity (50~60 min) group [-2.63 (-4.05, -1.21)] and high intensity (20~30 min) group [-2.96 (-4.51, -1.41)], while the 3~4 times/week group had a more significant intervention effect compared to 1~2 times/week groups [-2.91 (-3.99, -1.83)] and 5~6 times/week groups [-3.28 (-4.75, -1.81)]. No significant differences were observed in pairwise comparisons of intervention effects among the five common types of aerobic exercises. (95%CL including 0). The Surface Under the Cumulative Ranking curve (SUCRA) results align with the findings mentioned above and will not be reiterated here. Conclusion: The efficacy of aerobic exercise in preventing and treating postpartum depression is significant compared to standard care, with a greater emphasis on prevention. The optimal prescribed exercise volume for intervention comprises a frequency of 3~4 exercise sessions per week, moderate intensity (35~45 minutes). Currently, several uncharted internal factors influence the optimal intervention effect of aerobic exercise, such as the potential enhancement brought by team-based and supervised exercise. Given the absence of significant differences in certain results and the limitations of the study, it is essential to exercise caution when interpreting the outcomes. Further research is needed in the future to provide a more comprehensive understanding.

Abstract:Joints involved in deep burn often result in joint contracture, limb dysfunction, psychological disorder, or even loss of living and working abilities. The management of post-burn joint contracture will directly orientate the functional recovery of the patients. Comprehensive intervention may prevent the contracture process of the affected joints. Orthoses application is an important measure and should be maintained throughout the whole process of burn care, from positioning the joints at the early stage to maintaining the range of joint motion at the late stage. Orthoses should be used on the premise of protecting the joint functions. In order to maintain the tissue tension while enhancing the joint mobility and muscle strength, the static orthoses and the dynamic orthoses are often alternately used. It is showed in clinical practice that orthoses are designed and applied on the basis that biomechanics will lead to a better outcome.

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of exercise intervention for antenatal depression using meta-analysis and to propose the best exercise intervention program. Methods: Review Manager 5.3 was used to analyze 17 papers with 2224 subjects by setting five moderators, including type, time, frequency, period, and format of exercise intervention, and a random-effects model was used to test for overall effect, heterogeneity, and publication bias. Results: (1) The effect size of the exercise intervention on antenatal depression was d = -0.56, which reached a good effect and was statistically significant; b (2) The effect size of the exercise type on antenatal depression was Yoga and a combination of aerobic exercise in order of intervention; (3) the single intervention duration of 10-75 min all had a good effect on antenatal depression, and 30-60 min had the best effect; (4) the intervention frequency of 3 to 5 times/week had the greatest amount of intervention effect on maternal depression; (5) exercise lasting 6-10 weeks had a good intervention effect on antepartum depression, and the amount of effect decreased gradually with the extension of time; (6) In terms of exercise format, the amount of intervention effect on maternal depression was in the order of group exercise, individual + group exercise. Conclusions: Exercise intervention can significantly alleviate antenatal depression symptoms. The best exercise program for exercise intervention for antenatal depression is: Yoga and a combination of aerobic exercise intervention effects are more prominent, and the intervention effect of Yoga is the best. The use of group exercise 3-5 times per week for 30-60 min for 6-10 weeks was more likely to achieve the desired intervention effect of improving antenatal depression.

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: The objectives were to assess (i) the quality of theory implementation, (ii) the application of behavior change techniques, and (iii) the effectiveness of theory-based interventions in promoting physical activity in pregnant women and improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.METHODS: A systematic search was conducted across 8 databases (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE, MEDLINE, APA PsycINFO, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science) to identify randomized controlled trials published from database inception to 8 July 2023. The Cochrane risk-of-bias 2.0 tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included studies. The theory coding scheme was used to measure the quality of theory implementation, and behavior change techniques were coded according to behavior change taxonomy (version 1). The meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation Approach was used to assess the certainty of evidence.RESULTS: Eleven studies met the study criteria. Nine studies were based on one theory, while two studies were based on a combination of two theories. The quality of theory implementation was generally moderate. A total of 24 unique behavior change techniques were extracted. The most commonly used types of behavior change techniques were 'instruction on how to perform the behavior' (n = 9), 'goal setting' (behavior) (n = 8), 'action planning' (n = 7), and 'information about health consequences' (n = 7). Theory-based interventions significantly improved moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (standardized mean difference (SMD) = 0.17, 95 % confidence interval (CI) [0.04, 0.30], P = 0.01; moderate certainty of evidence), reduced the average gestational weight gain per week (mean difference (MD) = -0.06, 95 % CI [-0.11, -0.01], P = 0.02; moderate certainty of evidence), and decreased the incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus (risk ratio (RR) = 0.64, 95 % CI [0.46, 0.89], P = 0.008; high certainty of evidence). However, the effects of theory-based interventions on total physical activity, total gestational weight gain and the incidence of gestational hypertension and preterm delivery were unclear (P > 0.05).CONCLUSIONS: (i) Most of the studies exhibited a moderate level of theory implementation quality. (ii) The use of theories varies, but common behavior change techniques were found across studies. (iii) Theory-based interventions can improve physical activity and maternal and neonatal outcomes and appear to be safe. Abstract:Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) has become one of the common disorders during the postpartum period. The non-pharmacological interventions of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) have achieved good results in the treatment of PPD. However, the efficacy of different non-pharmacological interventions of TCM for PPD has not been fully elucidated. Due to the large number of non-pharmacological intervention of TCM modalities, the selection of appropriate non-pharmacological interventions of TCM has become an urgent clinical problem. The aim of this network meta-analysis was to explore the best choice for different non-pharmacological interventions of TCM for PPD. Methods: PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Embase, China Scientific Journal Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, and Wanfang Data were searched to identify the randomized controlled trials of non-pharmacological interventions of TCM for PPD from the inception to February 2022. Two researchers will be independently responsible for literature screening, data extraction, and assessment of their quality. Standard pair-wise and Bayesian network meta-analysis will be performed to compare the efficacy of different non-pharmacological interventions of TCM for PPD via Stata 14.0 and WinBUGS1.4 software. Results: The results of this meta-analysis will be submitted to a peer-reviewed journal for publication. Conclusions: The conclusion of this systematic review will provide evidence for the selection of an optimal non-pharmacological interventions of TCM for PPD. Ethics and dissemination: Ethical approval is not required for this study. Abstract:Digital psychological interventions have been widely used clinically in recent years, but the methodological quality and quality of evidence of related studies are unclear, thus interfering with the translation of practice outcomes and the application of clinical decisions. We searched for meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials in the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Cochrane Library, JBI Database, CINAHL, and PsycINFO databases as well as some databases containing gray literature up to 27 April 2022 using a combination of keywords. After two researchers independently screened and extracted data from the literature, the methodological quality of the included literature was evaluated by the AMSTAR 2 scale, and the evidence quality of the outcome index was graded by the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system. A total of 12 meta-analyses reporting the positive impact of digital psychological interventions in the prevention and/or treatment of depressive symptoms in perinatal women were included, but the methodological quality and evidence level of the included studies were low. Digital psychological interventions are effective in reducing perinatal depression, but the methodological quality and reliability of outcome indicators are mostly low. Improving study designs, using higher-quality clinical evidence, conducting systematic evaluation studies strictly following the procedures, and standardizing the reporting of study results are recommended.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The perinatal period is a challenging time of substantial emotional, physiological, social, and relational changes. Depression, anxiety, and stress symptoms are common, and co-exist in the perinatal period. Digital technology continues to grow at an unprecedented pace with wide application, including psychotherapeutic intervention. A growing number of meta-analyses supported the application of digital psychotherapeutic intervention across different populations, but relatively few meta- and meta-regression analyses have concentrated on perinatal women.AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of digital psychotherapeutic intervention on improving psychological outcomes among perinatal women and identify its essential features.METHODS: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were obtained from eight databases, including Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Library, Embase, Scopus, PsycINFO, PubMed, Web of Science, and ProQuest Dissertation and Theses from inception up until November 24, 2020. Comprehensive Meta-analysis 3.0 software was used to conduct meta- and meta-regression analyses. The Cochrane risk-of-bias tool and the Grading of the Recommendation, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system were adopted to assess the individual and overall qualities of the evidence, respectively.RESULTS: A total of 25 RCTs that included 3239 women were identified. Meta-analyses revealed that intervention significantly improved depression (Hedges's <i>g</i> = 0.49), anxiety (<i>g</i> = 0.25), and stress (<i>g</i> = 0.47) symptoms compared to the control. Subgroup analyses demonstrated that a website platform with ≥ eight therapist-guided sessions using the theoretical principle of cognitive behavioral therapy was more effective than other treatments in improving depression symptoms in postnatal women. Meta-regression analyses observed that the age of perinatal women and the type of psychotherapy also had statistically significant effects on depression symptoms. Egger's regression asymmetry tests suggested that no publication biases occurred, but the overall quality of the evidence was very low.CONCLUSION: This review suggests that digital psychotherapeutic intervention may be a potential solution to reduce psychological problems in perinatal women. Further high-quality RCTs with large sample sizes are needed.

Abstract:Importance: Depression is the second most prevalent mental disorder among children and adolescents, yet only a small proportion seek or receive disorder-specific treatment. Physical activity interventions hold promise as an alternative or adjunctive approach to clinical treatment for depression. Objective: To determine the association of physical activity interventions with depressive symptoms in children and adolescents. Data sources: PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, EMBASE, and SPORTDiscus were searched from inception to February 2022 for relevant studies written in English, Chinese, or Italian. Study selection: Two independent researchers selected studies that assessed the effects of physical activity interventions on depressive symptoms in children and adolescents compared with a control condition. Data extraction and synthesis: A random-effects meta-analysis using Hedges g was performed. Heterogeneity, risk of bias, and publication bias were assessed independently by multiple reviewers. Meta-regressions and sensitivity analyses were conducted to substantiate the overall results. The study followed the PRISMA reporting guideline. Main outcomes and measures: The main outcome was depressive symptoms as measured by validated depression scales at postintervention and follow-up. Results: Twenty-one studies involving 2441 participants (1148 [47.0%] boys; 1293 [53.0%] girls; mean [SD] age, 14 [3] years) were included. Meta-analysis of the postintervention differences revealed that physical activity interventions were associated with a reduction in depressive symptoms compared with the control condition (g = -0.29; 95% CI, -0.47 to -0.10; P = .004). Analysis of the follow-up outcomes in 4 studies revealed no differences between the physical activity and control groups (g = -0.39; 95% CI, -1.01 to 0.24; P = .14). Moderate study heterogeneity was detected (Q = 53.92; df = 20; P < .001; I2 = 62.9% [95% CI, 40.7%-76.8%]). The primary moderator analysis accounting for total physical activity volume, study design, participant health status, and allocation and/or assessment concealment did not moderate the main treatment effect. Secondary analyses demonstrated that intervention (ie, <12 weeks in duration, 3 times per week, unsupervised) and participant characteristics (ie, aged ≥13 years, with a mental illness and/or depression diagnosis) may influence the overall treatment effect. Conclusions and relevance: Physical activity interventions may be used to reduce depressive symptoms in children and adolescents. Greater reductions in depressive symptoms were derived from participants older than 13 years and with a mental illness and/or depression diagnosis. The association with physical activity parameters such as frequency, duration, and supervision of the sessions remains unclear and needs further investigation.

Abstract:Prenatal psychosocial health has been linked with health behaviors, maternal health, and birth outcomes. This randomized controlled trial evaluated the effects of a prenatal depression intervention on birth outcomes and maternal physical and psychological status at 42 days postpartum. Three hundred fifty-two high-risk pregnant women exposed to obstetric complications with an Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) ≥ 9 or a Postpartum Depression Screening Scale (PDSS) ≥ 60 were randomly assigned to the intervention group ( n = 176) and control group ( n = 176). The intervention group underwent a six-session couple-separated psycho-educational program; the control group received the usual care. All participants were asked to complete questionnaires at late pregnancy (>28 weeks), 3 days postpartum, and 42 days postpartum. The intervention group had a significantly lower cesarean rate and shorter third stage of labor ( p < .05). At 42 days after delivery, only 5.1% of participants were lost to follow-up, and the intervention group had significantly less minor and major depression, more sleep time, more satisfaction with their husband and other family members, less concern about taking care of baby, and less breast milk insufficiency than the control group ( p < .05). A prenatal psychological intervention model for high-risk pregnant women holds potential as a preventive program that addresses maternal health and birth outcomes. Abstract:Stimuli-responsive liquid marbles for controlled release typically rely on organic moieties that require lengthy syntheses. We report herein a facile, one-step synthesis of hydrophobic and oleophobic TiO2 nanoparticles that display photoresponsive wettability. Water liquid marbles stabilized by these photoresponsive TiO2 particles were found to be stable when shielded from ultraviolet (UV) radiation; however, they quickly collapsed after being irradiated with 302 nm UV light. Oil- and organic-solvent-based liquid marbles could also be fabricated using oleophobic TiO2 nanoparticles and show similar UV-induced collapse. Finally, we demonstrated the formation of the micronized form of water liquid marbles, also known as dry water, by homogenization of the TiO2 nanoparticles with water. The TiO2 dry water displayed a similar photoresponse, whereby the micronized liquid marbles collapsed after irradiation and the dry water turned from a free-flowing powder to a paste. Hence, by exploiting the photoresponsive wettability of TiO2, we fabricated liquid marbles and dry water that display photoresponse and studied the conditions required for their collapse.
Effect of exercise for depression: systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials

Abstract:Objective: To identify the optimal dose and modality of exercise for treating major depressive disorder, compared with psychotherapy, antidepressants, and control conditions. Design: Systematic review and network meta-analysis. Methods: Screening, data extraction, coding, and risk of bias assessment were performed independently and in duplicate. Bayesian arm based, multilevel network meta-analyses were performed for the primary analyses. Quality of the evidence for each arm was graded using the confidence in network meta-analysis (CINeMA) online tool. Data sources: Cochrane Library, Medline, Embase, SPORTDiscus, and PsycINFO databases. Eligibility criteria for selecting studies: Any randomised trial with exercise arms for participants meeting clinical cut-offs for major depression. Results: 218 unique studies with a total of 495 arms and 14 170 participants were included. Compared with active controls (eg, usual care, placebo tablet), moderate reductions in depression were found for walking or jogging (n=1210, κ=51, Hedges' g -0.62, 95% credible interval -0.80 to -0.45), yoga (n=1047, κ=33, g -0.55, -0.73 to -0.36), strength training (n=643, κ=22, g -0.49, -0.69 to -0.29), mixed aerobic exercises (n=1286, κ=51, g -0.43, -0.61 to -0.24), and tai chi or qigong (n=343, κ=12, g -0.42, -0.65 to -0.21). The effects of exercise were proportional to the intensity prescribed. Strength training and yoga appeared to be the most acceptable modalities. Results appeared robust to publication bias, but only one study met the Cochrane criteria for low risk of bias. As a result, confidence in accordance with CINeMA was low for walking or jogging and very low for other treatments. Conclusions: Exercise is an effective treatment for depression, with walking or jogging, yoga, and strength training more effective than other exercises, particularly when intense. Yoga and strength training were well tolerated compared with other treatments. Exercise appeared equally effective for people with and without comorbidities and with different baseline levels of depression. To mitigate expectancy effects, future studies could aim to blind participants and staff. These forms of exercise could be considered alongside psychotherapy and antidepressants as core treatments for depression. Systematic review registration: PROSPERO CRD42018118040.
Effectiveness of Internet‐based Psychological Interventions for Treating Perinatal Depression: A Systematic Review and Meta‐analysis

Abstract:Background Perinatal depression can result in short‐ and long‐term adverse effects for women and their children if untreated. Psychological interventions, the preferred treatment for most women with perinatal depression, can also be provided online. Aims This study aimed to provide a comprehensive and systematic review of Internet‐based psychological interventions and to evaluate their effectiveness in the treatment of perinatal depression. Design Systematic review and meta‐analysis. Methods A systematic literature search was conducted of six databases, including CINAHL, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library and PsycINFO. Depression and anxiety, which were the primary and secondary results of this search, were presented as standardised mean differences (SMD) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). This review was conducted according to the PRISMA checklist. Results Thirteen studies involving 2158 perinatal women were included. Content, method, duration and frequency of Internet‐based psychological interventions were varied. Participants indicated a high rate of satisfaction with these interventions; participants’ dropout rates ranged from 2.6% to 60.8%. Meta‐analysis demonstrated that Internet‐based psychological interventions improved perinatal depression (SMD = −0.72, CI = [−1.02, −0.42], p < .01) and anxiety symptoms (SMD = −0.52, CI = [−0.73, −0.30], p < .01), with heterogeneity of 86% and 59%, respectively. Conclusions Internet‐based psychological interventions are considered as convenient and effective alternative treatment for perinatal depression and anxiety. In the future, additional studies are needed to investigate the long‐term effects of these interventions on the mental health of perinatal women and the effects on the growth and development of infants while controlling for the dropout rate. Relevance to clinical practice Internet‐based psychological interventions are innovative approaches to improving perinatal depressive symptoms that can leverage mental health resources and improve accessibility while promoting multidisciplinary integration. The approach, content, frequency and duration of intervention should be considered comprehensively to achieve the objectives of the intervention while maintaining compliance of women with perinatal depression.
Effect of family-centered interventions for perinatal depression: an overview of systematic reviews

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to evaluate and conclude the quality of critically systematic reviews (SRs) of the efficacy of family-centered interventions on perinatal depression. Methods: SRs of the efficacy of family-centered interventions on perinatal depression were systematically searched in nine databases. The retrieval period was from the inception of the database to December 31, 2022. In addition, two reviewers conducted an independent evaluation of the quality of reporting, bias risk, methodologies, and evidence using ROBIS (an instrument for evaluating the bias risk of SRs), Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), AMSTAR 2 (an assessment tool for SRs), and grading of recommendations, assessment, development and evaluations (GRADE). Results: A total of eight papers satisfied the inclusion criteria. In particular, AMSTAR 2 rated five SRs as extremely low quality and three SRs as low quality. ROBIS graded four out of eight SRs as "low risk." Regarding PRISMA, four of the eight SRs were rated over 50%. Based on the GRADE tool, two out of six SRs rated maternal depressive symptoms as "moderate;" one out of five SRs rated paternal depressive symptoms as "moderate;" one out of six SRs estimated family functioning as "moderate," and the other evidence was rated as "very low" or "low." Of the eight SRs, six (75%) reported that maternal depressive symptoms were significantly reduced, and two SRs (25%) were not reported. Conclusion: Family-centered interventions may improve maternal depressive symptoms and family function, but not paternal depressive symptoms. However, the quality of methodologies, evidence, reporting, and bias of risk in the included SRs of family-centered interventions for perinatal depression was not satisfactory. The above-mentioned demerits may negatively affect SRs and then cause inconsistent outcomes. Therefore, SRs with a low risk of bias, high-quality evidence, standard reporting, and strict methodology are necessary to provide evidence of the efficacy of family-centered interventions for perinatal depression.

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Background</h3><p>Prenatal depression affects 20.7 percent of women worldwide, which was associated with preterm birth, low birth weight and Apgar score, as well as cognitive, emotional and behavioral development disorders. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to retrieve the latest and best evidence about music, massage, yoga and exercise in the prevention and treatment of prenatal depression, and to preliminarily compare the four methods to explore the most effective means. We also compared different types of yoga and music, in order to find the most effective type of intervention.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>A comprehensive literature search was carried out through six databases on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Effects were summarized by a random effects model using mean differences with 95% confidence intervals. Evidence quality was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) criteria.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>This research found low to very low evidence that yoga, exercise, music and massage could reduce antenatal depression. Among them, music may be the most effective intervention, and integrated yoga other than simple yoga would improve prenatal depression. The effect of Chinese Medicine Five Element Music may be better than ordinary music.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusion</h3><p>It is important to support prenatal depression patients to make informed decisions about their behavior therapy.</p>

Abstract:Abstract Background Depression is widespread among adolescents and seriously endangers their quality of life and academic performance. Developing strategies for adolescent depression has important public health implications. No systematic review on the effectiveness of physical exercise for adolescents aged 12–18 years with depression or depressive symptoms has previously been conducted. This study aims to systematically evaluate the effect of physical exercise on adolescent depression in the hope of developing optimum physical exercise programs. Methods Nine major databases at home and abroad were searched to retrieve randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on exercise interventions among adolescents with depression or depressive symptoms. The retrieval period started from the founding date of each database to May 1, 2021. The methodological quality of the included articles was evaluated using the modified PEDro scale. A meta-analysis, subgroup analysis, sensitivity analysis, and publication bias tests were then conducted. Results Fifteen articles, involving 19 comparisons, with a sample size of 1331, were included. Physical exercise significantly reduced adolescent depression (standardized mean difference [SMD] = − 0.64, 95% CI − 0.89, − 0.39, p < 0.01), with a moderate effect size, in both adolescents with depression (SMD = -0.57, 95% CI − 0.90, − 0.23, p < 0.01) and adolescents with depressive symptoms (SMD = − 0.67, 95% CI − 1.00, − 0.33, p < 0.01). In subgroups of different depression categories (depression or depressive symptoms), aerobic exercise was the main form of exercise for the treatment of adolescents with depression. For adolescents with depression, interventions lasting 6 weeks, 30 min/time, and 4 times/week had optimum results. The effects of aerobic exercise and resistance + aerobic exercise in the subgroup of adolescents with depressive symptoms were significant, while the effect of physical and mental exercise (yoga) was not significant. For adolescents with depressive symptoms, aerobic exercise lasting 8 weeks, 75–120 min/time, and 3 times/week had optimum results. Physical exercise with moderate intensity is a better choice for adolescents with depression and depressive symptoms. Conclusions Physical exercise has a positive effect on the improvement of depression in adolescents. The protocol for this study was registered with INPLASY (202170013). The effect of physical exercise strategies on weight loss in postpartum women: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:For women of reproductive age, excessive gestational weight gain and/or postpartum weight retention can increase the risk of obesity. This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of lifestyle modification control trials that utilize exercise interventions, with or without dietary intervention, on weight loss among postpartum women. A search of randomized clinical trials (RCT) was performed using the follow databases and the bibliography of candidate studies: MEDLINE, Web of Science, EMBASE, CENTRAL/Cochrane and Physiotherapy Evidence Database. English language RCT papers published up to 31 October 2012, which present changes on maternal body weight from baseline to the end of exercise intervention were included. The primary meta-analysis examined the effects of exercise interventions, with or without complementary dietary intervention, on weight loss during the postpartum period compared with usual standard of care. Five subgroup analyses were performed to examine differences in study interventions and exercise modalities: duration of intervention, quality of study methodology, supervision of exercise intervention, exercise intervention goals used and the type of dietary intervention. In total 11 studies met eligibility criteria with 769 participants, 409 under intervention and 360 in the control group. The primary meta-analysis included all 11 studies and found a mean difference (MD) on weight loss of −2.57 kg (95% CI −3.66 to −1.47). The subgroup analysis demonstrated that the most effective interventions in reducing weight in postpartum women were exercise programs with objectively defined goals, such as the use of heart rate monitors or pedometer (MD of −4.09 kg—95% CI −4.94 to −3.25, I2=0%) and exercise combined with intensive dietary intervention (MD of −4.34 kg—95% CI −5.15 to −3.52, I2=0%). Thus, there is benefit from overall lifestyle interventions on weight loss in postpartum women and exercise plus intensive diet and objective targets are the most effective intervention strategies.
