Abstract:Objectives: To identify the occurrence of upper respiratory tract infections (URTI), diarrheal diseases and trauma during the Hajj season, and the practice of some preventive measures by pilgrims. Methods: A cross-sectional study during November and December 2009 among hajjis registered while visiting Primary Health Care Centers of Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to get mandatory meningococcal meningitis vaccination. On return from hajj, hajjis were contacted on telephone to collect information on occurrence of URTI and diarrhea along with other associated activities in Hajj. Results: Out of 1507 hajjis, 54.7% developed symptoms; 97% reported upper respiratory tract symptoms, and 9.3% reported diarrheal symptoms. Those <40 years of age were more likely to develop an URTI. The incidence of diarrheal diseases or trauma was not statistically associated with age. No statistical difference for educational level was found for URTI or trauma, but there was a statistically significant difference for diarrheal diseases. There was no statistical difference for nationality in relation to diarrheal diseases and trauma, but there was a statistically significant difference for URTI. There was a statistically significant difference of URTI between those pilgrims who used the face mask most of the time and those who used it sometimes. Conclusion: Upper respiratory tract infections is a common health problem among studied domestic hajjis. Generally, there is room for improvement in the adoption of preventive measures by hajjis; and there is still limited information on the use of facemasks in spite of the fact that using it significantly decreases the risk for URTI.
Protective practices and respiratory illness among US travelers to the 2009 Hajj

Abstract:Background: All mass gatherings can place travelers at risk for infectious diseases, but the size and density of the annual Hajj pilgrimage to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) present important public health and infection control challenges. This survey of protective practices and respiratory illness among US travelers to the 2009 Hajj was designed to evaluate whether recommended behavioral interventions (hand hygiene, wearing a face mask, cough etiquette, social distancing, and contact avoidance) were effective at mitigating illness among travelers during the 2009 Hajj. Methods: US residents from Minnesota and Michigan completed anonymous surveys prior to and following travel to the 2009 Hajj. Surveys assessed demographics, knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to influenza A(H1N1), vaccination, health-seeking behaviors, sources of health information, protective behaviors during the Hajj, and respiratory illness during and immediately after the Hajj. Results: Pre- and post-travel surveys were completed by 186 participants. Respiratory illness was reported by 76 (41.3%) respondents; 144 (77.4%) reported engaging in recommended protective behaviors during the Hajj. Reduced risk of respiratory illness was associated with practicing social distancing, hand hygiene, and contact avoidance. Pilgrims who reported practicing more recommended protective measures during the Hajj reported either less occurrence or shorter duration of respiratory illness. Noticing influenza A(H1N1) health messages during the Hajj was associated with more protective measures and with shorter duration of respiratory illness. Conclusions: Recommended protective behaviors were associated with less respiratory illness among US travelers to the 2009 Hajj. Influenza A(H1N1) communication and education in KSA during the Hajj may also have been an effective component of efforts to mitigate illness. Evaluations of communication efforts and preventive measures are important in developing evidence-based public health plans to prevent and mitigate disease outbreaks at the Hajj and other mass gatherings.

Abstract:Acetabular component extraction following intra-pelvic migration of a total hip replacement can be hazardous to pelvic tissues, vessels and organs. Acetabular component removal is usually performed using an abdominal retroperitoneal approach. We describe a closed reduction of the acetabular component using a traction/manipulation technique. This manoeuvre can be used in cases of intra-pelvic acetabular component migration where the surface contour of the acetabular component is uncomplicated and an interposition membrane separates the implant from adjacent intra-pelvic structures.

Abstract:This study estimates the point prevalence of symptomatic respiratory tract infections (RTIs) among returned Hajj pilgrims and their contacts in 2021. Using the computer-assisted telephone interview (CATI) technique, domestic pilgrims were invited to participate in this cross-sectional survey two weeks after their home return from Hajj. Of 600 pilgrims approached, 79.3% agreed to participate and completed the survey. Syndromic definitions were used to clinically diagnose possible influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and COVID-19. Median with range was applied to summarise the continuous data, and frequencies and proportions were used to present the categorical variables. Simple logistic regression was carried out to assess the correlations of potential factors with the prevalence of RTIs. The majority of pilgrims (88.7%) reported receiving at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine before Hajj. Eleven (2.3%) pilgrims reported respiratory symptoms with the estimated prevalence of possible ILI being 0.2%, and of possible COVID-19 being 0.4%. Among those who were symptomatic, five (45.5%) reported that one or more of their close contacts had developed similar RTI symptoms after the pilgrims’ home return. The prevalence of RTIs among pilgrims who returned home after attending the Hajj 2021 was lower compared with those reported in the pre-pandemic studies; however, the risk of spread of infection among contacts following Hajj is still a concern.

Abstract:Long QT syndrome (LQTS) is a clinically and genetically heterogenous disorder of myocardial repolarization that often manifests clinically as heart rate–corrected QT interval (QTc) prolongation on 12-lead ECG and increased risk of syncope and sudden cardiac death.1,2 Among phenotypically robust nonsyndromic LQTS cases (ie, persistent QTc prolongation ≥480 ms or Schwartz diagnostic score ≥3.5), ≈75% are anticipated to harbor a heterozygous pathogenic variant in 1 of the 3 major LQTS-susceptibility genes ( KCNQ1 /LQT1, ≈35%; KCNH2 /LQT2, ≈30%; and SCN5A /LQT3, ≈10%).2–4 As a result of established genotype-phenotype correlations, the identification of a putative pathogenic KCNQ1 , KCNH2 , or SCN5A genetic variant often enables use of genotype-guided approaches to risk stratification and clinical management.5 As such, current Heart Rhythm Society/European Heart Rhythm Association guidelines consider LQTS-specific genetic testing for individuals with a strong clinical suspicion of LQTS based on clinical/family history and electrocardiographic phenotype as a class I recommendation.6 See Article by Li et al However, even when potentially LQTS-causative rare variants are unearthed, the presence of a ≈3% to 8% background rate of rare KCNQ1 , KCNH2 , and SCN5A nonsynonymous variants in public exomes/genomes can make assignment of causation problematic.7–9 When coupled with the increased utilization of genetic testing to probe weak or nonexistent clinical phenotypes, whether out of concern for the marked incomplete penetrance and variable expressivity observed in most sudden cardiac death-predisposing genetic heart disorders10 or a failure to recognize the probablistic rather than binary nature of genetic testing, the net result has been a surge …

Abstract:Background: The Islamic Hajj pilgrimage is the largest annual mass gathering in the world. The overcrowding of people promotes the acquisition, spread and transmission of respiratory pathogens, including Streptococcus pneumoniae. Methods: We conducted a methodological review according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. The objective was to summarize the available data regarding the prevalence of pneumococcal carriage among Hajj pilgrims and about carriage acquisition and circulation of S. pneumoniae among pilgrims before and after participating in the Hajj according to their vaccination status. Results: Eight articles met eligibility criteria for pneumococcal carriage and impact of pneumococcal vaccination on carriage. Seven of them showed a significant increase in nasopharyngeal carriage of pneumococci following the pilgrimage, with acquisition rates ranging from 18 to 36%. Serotypes 3, 19F and 34 are the most common. A significant increase in antibiotic resistant strains was observed following participation in the Hajj. A lower prevalence was found in pilgrims treated with antibiotics, those who used a hand sanitizer, or those who washed their hands more frequently than usual. An increased carriage of pneumococcal serotypes included in pneumococcal vaccines (10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV10), 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13), 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23)) was observed following participation in the Hajj. To date, no study has shown a significant reduction in pneumococcal carriage among pilgrims after vaccination with PPV23 or PCV. In fact, no significant difference was currently observed in the prevalence ratio of pneumococcal carriage between vaccinated and unvaccinated pilgrims. Conclusion: The studies analyzed in this review showed an increased carriage of pneumococcus in post-Hajj pilgrims compared to pre-Hajj pilgrims, including vaccine serotypes. Further studies are needed to investigate the possible relationships between carriage, disease and vaccine in pilgrims.

Abstract:Respiratory tract infection (RTI) is a major public health challenge during the Muslim pilgrimage to Makkah. This study aims to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practice of Malaysian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims towards the prevention of RTIs in 2018 and determine correlations among three domains. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 225 Umrah and Hajj pilgrims. Knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) towards RTI prevention was assessed by using a validated self-administered questionnaire among pilgrims attending a weekly orientation course organized by private Hajj/Umrah companies. Out of 225 participants, 65.9% of respondents were female with the mean (SD) age of 46.74 (13.38) years. The interquartile range (IQR) score for knowledge is 18.0 (6.0), the mean scores of attitude and practice are 32.65 (4.72) and 25.30 (4.9). respectively. Significant and negative linear correlations between knowledge and practice (r = −0.232, p < 0.001), and attitude and practice (r = 0.134, p = 0.045) were observed. Results from the current study showed good knowledge of RTIs among Malaysian pilgrims. However, a poor attitude was reflected in their preventive practice behaviors. This will further help in the prevention and management of RTIs during Hajj and Umrah. Therefore, an extensive educational health campaign should be provided to pilgrims to create awareness.

Abstract:PURPOSE We evaluated repeatability and reproducibility of measurements of the retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFLT), optic nerve head (ONH), and macular inner retinal layer (MIRL) by RTVue spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) in normal Rhesus monkeys. METHODS The experimental study included 15 adult Rhesus macaque monkeys. RNFLT, ONH parameters (area of disc, cup, and rim; volume of cup and rim; and cup-to-disc ratios), and MIRL thickness were imaged at three separate examinations within one month. Each eye was imaged three times at the first examination, and once at each of the two following examinations. We determined the intra-session and inter-session (inter-visit) within-subject SD (Sw), precision (1.96 × Sw), coefficient of variation (CVw, 100 × Sw/overall mean), and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). RESULTS For the intra-session repeatability, ICC values ranged between 0.97 and 1.00 for all ONH parameters, and between 0.80 and 0.98 for all regional RNFLT parameters, with a value of 0.97 for the average RNFLT. For the inter-session (inter-visit) reproducibility, ICC values ranged from 0.93-1.00 for the ONH measurements and from 0.63-0.97 for regional RNFLT parameters, with a value of 0.96 for the average RNFLT. Again, the ICC values were lowest in the temporal inferior and temporal superior regions. The ICC value for the average MIRL thickness was 0.95. CONCLUSIONS Repeatability and reproducibility of spectral-domain OCT measurements of the RNFL, ONH, and MIRL were high in normal monkey eyes. Spectral-domain OCT may be suitable to assess changes in follow-up examinations of monkeys with experimental glaucoma.

Abstract:Millions of pilgrims travel annually to Makkah and Madinah, Saudi Arabia, for the Hajj, posing unique challenges for public health management and disease control. The large influx of pilgrims from diverse backgrounds traveling to a confined geographic area, coupled with the close proximity and interactions among them, create significant pressure on the healthcare system and heighten the potential for the spread of communicable diseases. This review examines current trends in communicable diseases and their impact, drawing insights from expert perspectives on the required (i.e., meningococcal meningitis, polio, and yellow fever) and recommended vaccinations (influenza, COVID-19) for Hajj participants. The updated COVID-19 vaccine is mandatory for local pilgrims and is strongly recommended for international visitors, with ongoing discussions on adapting protocols to address emerging variants. The timing and strain coverage of influenza vaccination, along with quadrivalent meningococcal vaccination, are also emphasized as critical preventive measures. Diseases such as cholera and yellow fever are addressed underscoring the need for rigorous surveillance and targeted vaccination strategies to mitigate the risk of transmission during the Hajj. By providing up-to-date information on mandated and recommended vaccinations, this review aims to empower pilgrims and healthcare professionals to make informed decisions regarding public health and disease prevention during this significant event.

Abstract:Introduction: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, most healthcare workers (HCWs) were required to wear face masks for long periods of time. Since then, it has been shown that face masks have the potential to cause several physical adverse effects. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of face mask-related complications among HCWs during the COVID-19 pandemic in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, we compared the relationship between face mask usage with other variables, including the type of mask used and gender. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted using convenience sampling, with a targeted sample of 517 participants (35% nonresponse). Data was collected via an electronic survey, the link for which was distributed through social media sites, such as WhatsApp and Twitter, to reach HCWs across Saudi Arabia. Data was analyzed using the SPSS software. Results: Overall, 438 HCWs who wore N95 or surgical masks for 4 hours or more per day on average were recruited. Skin-related complications in the nasal area had the highest prevalence (342, 78.1%), followed by behind the ear area (333, 76.0%), cheeks (307, 70.1%), and chin (248, 56.6%). Other complications included headaches (226, 51.6%), and eye-related complications (211, 48.2%). All face mask-related complications, except for behind the ear skin complications, were more associated with female gender. Conclusions: Mask usage was significantly associated with the development of headaches, and eye, and skin-related complications. Female HCWs were more predisposed to these complications. Preventative measures and awareness activities should be considered to help reduce mask use related complications.

Abstract:Introduction Trauma and injuries are common among pilgrims during Hajj, the biggest mass gathering event. Trauma and injury causes vary from falling and pressing in crowds to being burned by boiled water and road traffic accidents (RTA). Time to reach the hospital during highly condensed areas in Hajj are challenges for the public health authorities and the healthcare system to achieve optimum control, management, and outcome. This study aims to explore the pattern of trauma and injuries during Hajj as it is crucial to improve future preventive measures and care quality. Methods A cross-sectional questionnaire-based study was conducted in one hospital in each of the Mena and Arafat (Al-Mashaar's areas) in Makkah City, Saudi Arabia, from July 8 to 10, 2022. Data was collected through interviews with patients who visit the hospitals or enter the emergency department and are diagnosed with trauma or injury during the Hajj season of 1443 Hijri date (2022). Results A total of 264 people volunteered to participate in the survey. The mean age by years was 43.5 ± 10.7, and the majority (56%) were between 41 and 64. There were multiple nationalities - the most common nationality was Egyptian (25%), followed by Saudi (10%). The commonest type of trauma was cutting wounds (50%), and the commonest cause was falling (39%), followed by foot twisting (31%). There were 142 cases in Arafat and 122 cases in Mena in the study duration. Tissue contusions are higher in Arafat. Fractures (5%) were in both areas but higher in Mena with burns and sprains. Friction blister injuries were only in Mena and were statistically associated with walking barefoot (p<0.01), which was associated with Egyptians (p<0.05). Also, thigh chafing is only in Mena, while eye traumas and abrasion are only in Arafat. There were four causes of injury that are statistically significantly associated with the area (p<0.05): foot twisting in Arafat, pressing in overcrowding, stoning, and burning in Mena. Moreover, all the RTA cases (n=4) were in Arafat, and all the stoning and burning by boiling water were in Mena. Admission was only for burning (n=2) and falling (n=2) cases and only in Mena emergency hospital; otherwise, all trauma cases were discharged after receiving management - no deaths among the study sample. Injuries in Mena are likely to happen in the evening and night (n=91), while in Arafat, it is more likely in two periods (n=113), in the early morning and afternoon. This difference is statistically significant between the two areas (p<0.05). Most pilgrims (n=129/253) reach the hospital in 16 to 30 minutes. A statistically significant association exists between the duration and the area (p<0.05). Most patients in Arafat (88%) reach the hospital in less than 30 minutes, while only 50% take the same duration in Mena. Conclusion The Hajj season of 1443 H (2022) has a similar trauma pattern and improved outcomes compared to previous seasons. Discovering and digging into the causes of traumas and injuries should be optimized in future research for better control and customized prevention measures. Establishing new and remodeling current prevention measures is recommended for more control.
Genetic diversity and molecular analysis of human influenza virus among pilgrims during Hajj

Abstract:The risk of transmission of respiratory tract infections is considerably enhanced at mass gathering (MG) religious events. Hajj is an annual Islamic MG event with approximately 3 million Muslim pilgrims from over 180 countries concentrated in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to investigate the genetic diversity of influenza viruses circulating among pilgrims during the Hajj pilgrimage. We performed a cross-sectional analytical study where nasopharyngeal swabs (NPs) from pilgrims with respiratory tract illnesses presenting to healthcare facilities during the 2019 Hajj were screened for influenza viruses. Influenza A subtypes and influenza B lineages were determined by multiplex RT-PCR for positive influenza samples. The phylogenetic analysis was carried out for the hemagglutination (HA) gene. Out of 185 nasopharyngeal samples, 54 were positive for the human influenza virus. Of these, 27 were influenza A H1N1 and 19 H3N2, 4 were untypable influenza A, and 4 were influenza B. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that the H1N1 and H3N2 strains differentiated into different and independent genetic groups and formed close clusters with selected strains of influenza viruses from various locations. To conclude, this study demonstrates a high genetic diversity of circulating influenza A subtypes among pilgrims during the Hajj Season. There is a need for further larger studies to investigate in-depth the genetic characteristics of influenza viruses and other respiratory viruses during Hajj seasons.
Face masks to prevent transmission of COVID-19: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Abstract:<h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Background</h3><p>Based on the status of the COVID-19 global pandemic, there is an urgent need to systematically evaluate the effectiveness of wearing masks to protect public health from COVID-19 infection.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Methods</h3><p>The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) statement was consulted to report this systematic review. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of using face masks to prevent the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Relevant articles were retrieved from PubMed, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Cochrane Library, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP (Chinese) database. There were no language restrictions. This study was registered with PROSPERO under the number CRD42020211862.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Results</h3><p>A total of 6 studies were included, involving 4 countries, after a total of 5,178 eligible articles were searched in databases and references. In general, wearing a mask was associated with a significantly reduced risk of COVID-19 infection (OR = 0.38, 95% CI: 0.21-0.69, <em>I<sup>2</sup></em> = 54.1%). For the healthcare workers group, masks were shown to have a reduced risk of infection by nearly 70%. Sensitivity analysis showed that the results were robust.</p><h3 class="u-h4 u-margin-m-top u-margin-xs-bottom">Conclusions</h3><p>The results of this systematic review and meta-analysis support the conclusion that wearing a mask could reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection. Robust randomized trials are needed in the future to better provide evidence for these interventions.</p>

Escalating climate-related health risks for Hajj pilgrims to Mecca

Abstract:Abstract Background Global temperatures are on the rise, leading to more frequent and severe heatwaves with associated health risks. Heat-related illnesses are an increasing threat for travellers to hot climate destinations. This study was designed to elucidate the interplay between increasing ambient temperatures, incidence of heat-related illnesses, and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies during the annual Hajj mass gathering over a 40-year period. Methods An observational study was conducted utilizing historical records spanning four decades of meteorological data, and the rates of heat stroke and heat exhaustion during the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. With an annual population exceeding two million participants from over 180 countries, the study analyzed temporal variations in weather conditions over two distinct Hajj hot cycles and correlated it with the occurrence of heat stroke and heat exhaustion. The effectiveness of deployed mitigation measures in alleviating health vulnerabilities between the two cycles was also assessed. Results Throughout the study period, average dry and wet bulb temperatures in Mecca escalated by 0.4°C (Mann-Kendall p<0.0001) and 0.2°C (Mann-Kendall p=0.25) per decade respectively. Both temperatures were strongly correlated with the incidence of heat stroke and heat exhaustion (p<0.001). Despite the intensifying heat, the mitigation strategies including individual, structural and community measures were associated with a substantial 74.6% reduction in heat stroke cases and a 47.6% decrease in case fatality rate. Conclusion The study underscores the escalating climate-related health risks in Mecca over the study period. The mitigation measures' efficacy in such a globally representative setting emphasizes the findings' generalizability and the importance of refining public health interventions in the face of rising temperatures.

Efficacy and Practice of Facemask Use in General Population: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Abstract:Abstract In recent decades, respiratory infections, including SARS, HINI and the currently spreading COVID-19, caused by various viruses such as influenza and coronavirus have seriously threatened human health. It has generated inconsistent recommendations on the mandatory use of facemasks across countries on a population level due to insufficient evidence on the efficacy of facemask use among the general population. This meta-analysis aimed to explore (1) the efficacy of facemask use on preventing respiratory infections, and (2) the perceptions, intentions, and practice about facemask use among the general population worldwide. We searched PubMed, MEDLINE, Web of Science, Cochrane, bioRxiv, and medRxiv databases since inception to August 17, 2020. From 21,341 records identified, eight RCTs on facemask in preventing infections and 78 studies on perception, intention, and practice of facemask use among the general population were included in the analysis. The meta-analysis of RCTs found a significant protective effect of facemask intervention (OR = 0.84; 95% CI = 0.71–0.99; I 2 = 0%). This protective effect was even more pronounced when the intervention duration was more than two weeks (OR = 0.76; 95% CI = 0.66–0.88; I 2 = 0%). The meta-analysis of observational studies on perception, intention, and practice on facemask use showed that 71% of respondents perceived facemasks to be effective for infection prevention, 68% of respondents would wear facemasks, and 54% of respondents wore facemasks for preventing respiratory infections. Differences in perception, intention, and practice behavior of facemask use in different regions may be related to the impact of respiratory infections, regional culture, and policies. The governments and relevant organizations should make effort to reduce the barriers in the use of facemasks.
Morbidity amongst South African Hajj pilgrims in 2023—a retrospective cohort study

Abstract:South Africans are not accustomed to the dry arid climate and sweltering heat in Saudi Arabia. We conducted a retrospective cohort study to identify the common health conditions pre-Hajj, during the 5 days of Hajj and on return to South Africa from Hajj amongst the 2023 pilgrims. A QR code and a mobile link to a self-administered questionnaire was sent to all 3500 South African pilgrims. Five hundred and seventy-seven pilgrims returned the completed surveys. Mean age of the participants was 48 years (SD 12) with a higher female representation (3:2). Forty eight percent (279) had pre-existing chronic conditions. Forty five percent (259) reported being ill during their stay in the Kingdom, 20% (115) reported having an illness during the main 5 days, whilst 51% (293) reported having an illness within 7 days of returning to South Africa. Only six pilgrims were admitted to hospital after their return home. Respiratory tract linked symptoms were the most frequently reported (95% pre Hajj and 99% post Hajj). Participants who reported having a chronic condition (AOR 1.52 95% CI 1.09–2.11) and engaging in independent exercising prior to Hajj (AOR 1.52–1.07–2.10) were at an increased likelihood of developing an illness within 7 days of returning home. Post travel surveillance swabs to identify potential pathogens that the returning pilgrims are incubating should be explored to guide further interventions.

Abstract:Background: Respiratory tract infections are the most common infection affecting Hajj pilgrims, and the ''Hajj cough'' is considered by pilgrims almost de rigueur. Methods: French pilgrims were recruited between January 2012-December 2014 and information on demographics, medical history, compliance with preventive measures and health problems during travel were collected. Results: A total of 382 pilgrims were included with 39.3% aged ≥65 years and 55.1% suffering from a chronic disease, most frequently hypertension and diabetes. The prevalence of cough was 80.9% and a high proportion presented with associated sore throat (91.0%), rhinitis (78.7%) and hoarseness (63.0%). Myalgia was reported in 48.3% of cases and subjective fever in 47.3%. The incubation time of respiratory symptoms was 7.7 days (range 0-25 days) and 51.9% of pilgrims presenting with a cough during their stay were still symptomatic on return. Among pilgrims with a cough, 69.4% took antibiotics. The prevalence of cough was significantly higher among females than men, but age, chronic conditions and preventive measures had no significant effect. Conclusions: The Hajj cough is highly common, likely a result of crowded conditions at religious places. Pilgrims should be advised to carry symptomatic relief for the Hajj cough such as cough suppressant, soothing throat lozenges and paracetamol. Use of antibiotics should be discouraged.
