Abstract:In this note we describe how to approximate some classes of singular equations by nonsingular equations. We obtain a solution to each nonsingular problem and estimates guaranteeing that the limiting function is a solution of the original problem.

Abstract:We study positive solutions of an equation with singular nonlinearities. The equation arises in the study of equilibrium states of thin films. Under weak assumptions on the nonlinearity, we show that for N >= 3 there exists a family of radial solutions {u(alpha)}(alpha>0) with u(alpha)(0) = alpha and each of them is oscillatory in ( 0, infinity). We obtain then a singular radial solution in ( 0, infinity) by taking the limit alpha --> 0. Meanwhile, using the solutions obtained in ( 0, infinity), we show some existence results for the corresponding Neumann eigenvalue problem on a ball.

Abstract:We study the local behavior of weak solutions, with possible singularities, of nonlocal nonlinear equations. We first prove that sets of capacity zero are removable for weak solutions under certain integrability conditions. We then characterize the asymptotic behavior of singular solutions near an isolated singularity in terms of the fundamental solution.

Abstract:By introducing a new classification of the growth rate of exponential functions, singular solutions for semilinear elliptic equations in 2-dimensions with exponential nonlinearities are constructed. The strategy is to introduce a model nonlinearity which admits an explicit singular solution. Then, using a transformation as in [8], one obtains an approximate singular solution, and then one concludes by a suitable fixed point argument. Our method covers a wide class of nonlinearities in a unified way. As a special case, our result contains a pioneering contribution by Ibrahim--Kikuchi--Nakanishi--Wei [15] for the Moser--Trudinger type nonlinearity.

Abstract:In this paper, we delve into a discrete nonlinear singular semipositone problem, characterized by a nonlinear boundary condition. The nonlinearity, given by f(u)−auα with α>0, exhibits a singularity at u=0 and tends towards −∞ as u approaches 0+. By constructing some suitable auxiliary problems, the difficulty that arises from the singularity and semipositone of nonlinearity and the lack of a maximum principle is overcome. Subsequently, employing the Krasnosel'skii fixed-point theorem, we determine the parameter range that ensures the existence of at least one positive solution and the emergence of at least two positive solutions. Furthermore, based on our existence results, one can obtain the symmetry of the solutions after adding some symmetric conditions on the given functions by using a standard argument.

Abstract:We study a boundary value elliptic problem having a lower order nonlinear term with subquadratic growth in the gradient of the solution and possibly singular when the solution vanishes. If the singularity is mild enough (and even in the absence of the singularity), we prove an existence and multiplicity result. On the contrary, we prove an existence and uniqueness result for strong singularities.

Abstract:We prove the monotonicity of positive solutions to the problem $-\Delta u = f(u)$ in $\mathbb{R}^N_+ := \{(x',x_N)\in\mathbb{R}^N \mid x_N>0 \}$ under zero Dirichlet boundary condition with a possible singular nonlinearity $f$. In some situations, we can derive a precise estimate on the blow-up rate of $\frac{\partial u}{\partial\eta}$ as $x_N \to 0^+$, where $(\eta,e_N)>0$, and obtain a classification result. The main tools we use are the method of moving planes and the sliding method.

Abstract:In this paper we study a class of Hardy--Sobolev type systems defined in $\mathbb{R}^N$ and coupled by a singular critical Hardy--Sobolev term. The main novelty of this work is that the orders of the singularities are independent and contained in a wide range. By means of variational techniques, we will prove the existence of positive bound and ground states for such a system. In particular, we find solutions as minimizers or Mountain--Pass critical points of the energy functional on the underlying Nehari manifold.

Abstract:The existence of three solutions for nonlinear operator equations is established via index theory for linear self-adjoint operator equations, critical point reduction method, and three critical points theorems obtained by Brezis-Nirenberg, Ricceri, and Averna-Bonanno. Applying the results to second-order Hamiltonian systems satisfying generalized periodic boundary conditions or Sturm-Liouville boundary conditions and elliptic partial differential equations satisfying Dirichlet boundary value conditions, we obtain some new theorems concerning the existence of three solutions.

Solvability of a System of Nonlinear Integral Equations on the Entire Line

Abstract:A system of singular integral equations with monotone and concave nonlinearity in the subcritical case is investigated. The specified system and its scalar analog have direct applications in various areas of physics and biology. In particular, scalar and vector equations of this nature are encountered in the dynamic theory of p-adic strings, in the theory of radiative transfer, in the kinetic theory of gases, and in the mathematical theory of the spread of epidemic diseases. A constructive theorem of existence in the space of continuous and bounded vector functions is proved. The integral asymptotic of the constructed solution is studied. An effective iterative process for constructing an approximate solution to this system is proposed. In a certain class of bounded vector functions, the uniqueness of the solution is proved. In the class of bounded vector functions (with non-negative coordinates) with a zero limit at infinity, the absence of an identically zero solution is proved. Examples of the matrix kernel and nonlinearities are given to illustrate the importance of the obtained results. Some of the examples have applications in the above-mentioned branches of natural science.

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to study singular solutions for a one-dimensional nonlinear diffusion equation. Due to slow diffusion near singular points, there exists a solution with a singularity at a prescribed position depending on time. To study properties of such singular solutions, we define a minimal singular solution as a limit of a sequence of approximate solutions with large Dirichlet data. Applying the comparison principle and the intersection number argument, we discuss the existence and uniqueness of a singular solution for an initial-value problem, the profile near singular points and large-time behavior of solutions. We also give some results concerning the appearance of a burning core, convergence to traveling waves and the existence of an entire solution.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the following singular quasilinear equation, where , $0<\beta <n$ , and f has critical exponential growth at infinity. We establish a compactness lemma for functional and develop some delicate analyses to deal with non-standard difficulties caused by singular term and the compactness issue. We introduce some natural assumptions on the nonlinearity f and obtain the existence of Mountain-pass type solution and ground state solution for above equation. Moreover, two distinct solutions, one has positive energy while the other one has negative energy, are established for the above equation with a perturbation.</n\)<>

Abstract:In this article, we are concerned about the existence, uniqueness, and nonexistence of the positive solution for: where N ⩾ 3 , 0 < q < 1 , λ > 0 , p > 1 , μ > 0 is a parameter and the function h ( x ) satisfies certain conditions. To start with, based on the variational argument and perturbation method, we obtain the existence and uniqueness of the positive solution for the aforementioned singular elliptic differential equation as λ > N 2 . In addition, there is no solution as λ ⩽ N 2 . Later, from an experimental point of view, we give the numerical solution of the aforementioned singular elliptic differential equation by means of a neural network in some special cases, which enrich the theoretical results. Our conclusions partially extend the results corresponding to the nonsingular case.

Topological Methods in Nonlinear Analysis

Abstract:We study the existence of positive solutions for a fractional differential equation with integral boundary conditions. Our solutions are placed in the space of Hölder functions and the main tools used in the proof of the results are the classical Schauder fixed point theorem and a sufficient condition about the relative compactness in Hölder spaces. Moreover, some examples are shown illustrating the results.

Abstract:This article sets forth results on the existence, non-existence, uniqueness, and regularities properties, as well as boundary behavior of solutions for singular systems involving mixed local and non-local elliptic operators (see System (S) below). More precisely, we first establish a new weak comparison principle for a singular equation. Afterward, we discuss the non-existence of positive classical solutions, as well as construct suitable ordered pairs of sub-solutions and super-solutions. This allows us to obtain the existence of a pair of positive weak solutions for System (S) by employing Schauder's fixed-point theorem in the associated conical shell. Finally, we adapt a method of Krasnoselsky to establish the uniqueness of such a positive pair of solutions.

Abstract:A singular nonlinear differential equation where σ > 1 , is considered in a neighbourhood of the point z = 0 located either in the complex plane C if σ is a natural number, in a Riemann surface of a rational function if σ is a rational number, or in the Riemann surface of logarithmic function if σ is an irrational number. It is assumed that w = w ( z ) , a ∈ C ⧹ { 0 } , and that the function f is analytic in a neighbourhood of the origin in C × C . Considering σ to be an integer, a rational, or an irrational number, for each of the above-mentioned cases, the existence is proved of analytic solutions w = w ( z ) in a domain that is part of a neighbourhood of the point z = 0 in C or in the Riemann surface of either a rational or a logarithmic function. Within this domain, the property lim z → 0 w ( z ) = 0 is proved and an asymptotic behaviour of w ( z ) is established. Several examples and figures illustrate the results derived. The blow-up phenomenon is discussed as well.
