Abstract:Colloidal metal-organic frameworks (CMOFs), nanoporous colloidal-sized crystals that are uniform in both size and polyhedral shape, are crystals composed of metal ions and organic bridging ligands, which can be used as building blocks for self-assembly in organic and aqueous liquids. They stand in contrast to conventional metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which scientists normally study in the form of bulk crystalline powders. However, powder MOFs generally have random crystal size and shape and therefore do not possess either a definite mutual arrangement with adjacent particles or uniformity. CMOFs do have this quality, which can be important in vital uptake and release kinetics. In this Account, we present the diverse methods of synthesis, pore chemistry control, surface modification, and assembly techniques of CMOFs. In addition, we survey recent achievements and future applications in this emerging field. There is potential for a paradigm shift, away from using just bulk crystalline powders, towards using particles whose size and shape are regulated. The concept of colloidal MOFs takes into account that nanoporous MOFs, conventionally prepared in the form of bulk crystalline powders with random crystal size, shape, and orientation, may also form colloidal-sized objects with uniform size and morphology. Furthermore, the traditional MOF functions that depend on porosity present additional control over those MOF functions that depend on pore interactions. They also can enable controlled spatial arrangements between neighboring particles. To begin, we discuss progress regarding synthesis of MOF nano- and microcrystals whose crystal size and shape are well regulated. Next, we review the methods to modify the surfaces with dye molecules and polymers. Dyes are useful when seeking to observe nonluminescent CMOFs in situ by optical microscopy, while polymers are useful to tune their interparticle interactions. Third, we discuss criteria to assess the stability of CMOFs for various applications. In another section of this Account, we give examples of supracrystal assembly in liquid, on substrates, at interfaces, and under external electric fields. We end this Account with discussion of possible future developments, both conceptual and technological.

Guiding Metal Organic Framework Morphology via Monolayer Artificial Defect-Induced Preferential Facet Selection

Abstract:Guiding metal organic framework (MOF) morphology, especially without the need for chemical additives, still remains a challenge. For the first time, we report a unique surface guiding approach in controlling the crystal morphology formation of zeolitic imidazole framework-8 (ZIF-8) and HKUST-1 MOFs on disrupted alkanethiol self-assembled monolayer (SAM)-covered Au substrates. Selective molecule removal is applied to generate diverse SAM matrices rich in artificial molecular defects in a monolayer to direct the dynamic crystal growth process. When a 11-mercaptoundecanol alkanethiol monolayer is ruptured, the hydroxyl tail groups of surface residue molecules act as nucleating sites by coordination with precursor metal ions. Meanwhile, the exposed alkane chain backbones stabilize a particular facet of MOF nuclei in the dynamic growth by slowing down their crystal growth rates along a specific direction. The competitive formation between the [110] and [100] planes of ZIF-8 ultimately regulates the crystal shapes from rhombic dodecahedron, truncated rhombic dodecahedron, and truncated cube to cube. Similarly, changeable morphologies of HKUST-1 crystals are also achieved from cube and tetrakaidekahedron to octahedron, originating from the competitive selection between the [100] and [111] planes. In addition to the artificial matrix preferred orientation of initial nucleation, parameters such as temperature also play a crucial role in the resulting crystal morphology. Standing on the additive-free MOF crystal morphology growth control, porous architectures prepared in this approach can act as templates for ligand-free metal (Au, Ag, and Cu) nanocluster synthesis. The nanocluster-embedded MOF structures represent distinct crystal morphology-dependent optical properties, and interestingly, their fluorescence emission can be highly enhanced by facet-induced nanocluster packing alignments. These findings not only provide a unique thought on MOF crystal morphology guidance but also pave a new route for the accompanied property investigation and further application.

Abstract:The prediction of crystal structures assembled in three dimensions has been considered for a long time, simultaneously as a chemical wasteland and a certain growth point of the chemistry of the future. Less than 30 years after Roald Hoffmann's statement, we can categorically affirm that the elevation of reticular chemistry and the introduction of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) significantly tackled this tridimensional assembly issue. MOFs result from the assembly of organic polytopic organic ligands bridging metal nodes, clusters, chains, or layers together into mostly three-periodic open frameworks. They can exhibit extremely high porosity and offer great potential as revolutionary catalysts, drug carrier systems, sensors, smart materials, and, of course, separation agents. Overall, the progressive development of reticular chemistry has been a game changer in materials chemistry during the last 25 years.Such diverse properties often result not only from the selected organic and inorganic molecular building blocks (MBBs) but also from their distribution within the framework. Indeed, the size and shape of the porous system, as well as the location of active sites influence the overall properties. Therefore, in the continuity of achieving the crystallization of three-periodic structures, chemists and crystal engineers faced the next challenge, as summarized by John Maddox: "it remains in general impossible to predict the structure of even the simplest crystallographic solids from knowledge of their chemical composition". This is where rational design takes place.In this Account, we detail three specific approaches developed by our group to facilitate the design and assembly of finely tuned MOFs. All are based on careful geometrical consideration and a deep study and understanding of the existing nets and topologies. We recognized that highly connected nets, if possible, edge-transitive, are ideal blueprints because their number is limited in contrast to nets with lower connectivity. Therefore, we embarked on taking advantage of existing highly connected MBBs, or, in parallel, promoting their formation to meet our requirements. This is achieved by utilizing externally decorated metal-organic polyhedra as supermolecular building blocks (SBBs), serving as a net-coding building unit, comprising the requisite connectivity and directional information coding for the chosen nets. The SBB approach allowed the synthesis of several families of SBB-based MOFs, including fcu, rht, and gea-MOFs, that are detailed here.The second strategy is directly inherited from the success of the SBB approach. In seeking highly connected building units, our group naturally expanded its research focus to nets that can be deconstructed into layers, pillared in various ways. In the supermolecular building layer (SBL) approach, the layers have an almost infinite connectivity, and the framework backbone is fixed in two dimensions while the third is free for pillar expansion and functionalization. The cases of trigonal pillaring leading to rtl, eea, and apo MOFs as well as the quadrangular pillaring leading to a family of tbo-MOFs are discussed here, along with recent cases of highly connected pillars in pek and aea-MOFs.Finally, our experience with highly coordinated MBBs led us to develop a novel way to use them as secondary building units of lower connectivity and unlock the possibility of assembling a novel class of zeolite-like MOFs (ZMOFs). The case of the Zr-sod-ZMOFs designed through a cantellation strategy is described as a future leading direction of MOF design.
Thermodynamic and Kinetic Effects in the Crystallization of Metal-Organic Frameworks

Abstract:The evolution of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been one of the most exciting aspects of materials chemistry over the last 20 years. In this Account, we discuss the development during this period in our understanding of the factors that control the crystallization of MOFs from solution. Both classical porous MOFs and dense MOF phases are considered. This is an opportune time at which to examine this complex area because the experimental tools now available to interrogate crystallization processes have matured significantly in the last 5 years, particularly with the use of in situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction. There have also been impressive developments in the use of density functional theory (DFT) to treat not only the energies of very complex structures but also their entropies. This is particularly important in MOF frameworks because of their much greater flexibility compared with inorganic structures such as zeolites. The first section of the Account describes how early empirical observations on the crystallization of dense MOFs pointed to a strong degree of thermodynamic control, with both enthalpic and entropic factors playing important roles. For example, reactions at higher temperatures tend to lead to denser structures with higher degrees of framework connectivity and lower levels of solvation, and polymorphs tend to form according to their thermodynamic stabilities. In the case of metal tartrates, these trends have been validated by calorimetric studies. It has been clear for more than a decade, however, that certain phases crystallize under kinetic control, especially when a change in conformation of the ligand or coordination around a metal center might be necessary to form the thermodynamically preferred product. We describe how this can lead to time-dependent crystallization processes that evolve according to the Ostwald rule of stages and can be observed by in situ methods. We then consider the crystallization of porous MOFs, which presents additional challenges because of solvation effects. In spite of these problems, much has been learned about the energetics of the underlying frameworks, where the relationship between porosity and stability initially seemed to mirror the behavior of zeolites, with more porous structures being less stable. Recently, however, this simple relationship has had to be reconsidered with the emergence of some very flexible structures wherein the open structures are more stable than their denser analogues at finite temperatures because of their large vibrational entropies. In the final section we describe how the concepts developed in the MOF work have been extended into the closely related area of hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites. We describe recent studies on polymorphism in hybrid perovskites, which is amenable to total free energy calculations using a combination of DFT and lattice dynamics methods.

Abstract:Background Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are made by linking inorganic and organic units by strong bonds (reticular synthesis). The flexibility with which the constituents’ geometry, size, and functionality can be varied has led to more than 20,000 different MOFs being reported and studied within the past decade. The organic units are ditopic or polytopic organic carboxylates (and other similar negatively charged molecules), which, when linked to metal-containing units, yield architecturally robust crystalline MOF structures with a typical porosity of greater than 50% of the MOF crystal volume. The surface area values of such MOFs typically range from 1000 to 10,000 m 2 /g, thus exceeding those of traditional porous materials such as zeolites and carbons. To date, MOFs with permanent porosity are more extensive in their variety and multiplicity than any other class of porous materials. These aspects have made MOFs ideal candidates for storage of fuels (hydrogen and methane), capture of carbon dioxide, and catalysis applications, to mention a few. Advances The ability to vary the size and nature of MOF structures without changing their underlying topology gave rise to the isoreticular principle and its application in making MOFs with the largest pore aperture (98 Å) and lowest density (0.13 g/cm 3 ). This has allowed for the selective inclusion of large molecules (e.g., vitamin B 12 ) and proteins (e.g., green fluorescent protein) and the exploitation of the pores as reaction vessels. Along these lines, the thermal and chemical stability of many MOFs has made them amenable to postsynthetic covalent organic and metal-complex functionalization. These capabilities enable substantial enhancement of gas storage in MOFs and have led to their extensive study in the catalysis of organic reactions, activation of small molecules (hydrogen, methane, and water), gas separation, biomedical imaging, and proton, electron, and ion conduction. At present, methods are being developed for making nanocrystals and supercrystals of MOFs for their incorporation into devices. Outlook The precise control over the assembly of MOFs is expected to propel this field further into new realms of synthetic chemistry in which far more sophisticated materials may be accessed. For example, materials can be envisaged as having (i) compartments linked together to operate separately, yet function synergistically; (ii) dexterity to carry out parallel operations; (iii) ability to count, sort, and code information; and (iv) capability of dynamics with high fidelity. Efforts in this direction are already being undertaken through the introduction of a large number of different functional groups within the pores of MOFs. This yields multivariate frameworks in which the varying arrangement of functionalities gives rise to materials that offer a synergistic combination of properties. Future work will involve the assembly of chemical structures from many different types of building unit, such that the structures’ function is dictated by the heterogeneity of the specific arrangement of their constituents.

Growth Pattern Control and Nanoarchitecture Engineering of Metal–Organic Framework Single Crystals by Confined Space Synthesis

Abstract:The nanoarchitecture engineering of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is a fascinating but intellectually challenging concept that opens up avenues for both tailoring the properties of MOFs and expanding their applications. Herein, we report the confined growth of ZIF-8 single crystals in a three-dimensionally ordered (3DO) macroporous polystyrene replica and reveal that their growth patterns, morphologies, and nanoarchitectures can be highly engineered using the concentration of the precursor. Impressively, the favorable in situ confined growth enables the successful fabrication of 3DO sphere-assembled ZIF-8 single crystals or 3DO single-crystalline ZIF-8 sphere arrays when a low- or high-concentration precursor solution, respectively, is used as the feedstock. Furthermore, our strategy can be extended to the preparation of other 3DO MOF single crystals, including ZIF-67 and HKUST-1, with similar controllable hierarchical nanoarchitectures. With the successful preparation of a series of diameter-tunable ZIF-8 single-crystalline spheres, we further unravel their interesting size-performance relationship in the Knoevenagle reaction between benzaldehyde and malononitrile, wherein the smallest spheres show the fastest first-order reaction kinetics. This study not only develops a general strategy for engineering the nanoarchitectures of MOF single crystals but also provides fundamental knowledge of the mechanism for the growth of hierarchical single crystals under confined spaces.

Abstract:As the field of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) continues marching toward practical applications, there is a need to move beyond design of the crystal structure. Morphological control of MOFs is the key to achieving optimal bed-packing, expression of crystallographic faces showing desired reactivity, and tailoring guest diffusion. The vast majority of morphology control in MOFs has been achieved empirically through manipulation of synthetic variables. Although this approach has met with considerable success, the potential for designed control offers a more complete solution to not only manipulate morphology, but also to alter it purposefully to optimize properties. This review introduces fundamental aspects and current methods for the precise control of crystal morphology in the context of MOFs and covers the majority of work conducted to date as well as opportunities for future development.

Abstract:Abstract Metal-organic frameworks (MOF) are an emerging class of microporous materials with promising applications. MOF nanocrystals, and their assembled super-structures, can display unique properties and reactivities when compared with their bulk analogues. MOF nanostructures of 0-D, 2-D, and 3-D dimensions can be routinely obtained by controlling reaction conditions and ligand additives, while formation of 1-D MOF nanocrystals (nanowires and nanorods) and super-structures has been relatively rare. We report here a facile templated interfacial synthesis methodology for the preparation of a series of 1-D MOF nano- and micro-structures with precisely controlled shapes and sizes. Specifically, by applying track-etched polycarbonate (PCTE) membranes as the templates and at the oil/water interface, we rapidly and reproducibly synthesize zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and ZIF-67 nano- and micro structures of sizes ranging from 10 nm to 20 μm. We also identify a size confinement effect on MOF crystal growth, which leads to single crystals under the most restricted conditions and inter-grown polycrystals at larger template pore sizes, as well as surface directing effects that influence the crystallographic preferred orientation. Our findings provide a potentially generalizable method for controlling the size, morphology, and crystal orientations of MOF nanomaterials, as well as offering fundamental understanding into MOF crystal growth mechanisms.

Abstract:As the structure and properties of anisotropic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) vary with certain directions in space, controlling the orientation of these MOFs allows full advantage to be taken of their anisotropic properties. Not surprisingly, the preparation of oriented anisotropic MOFs, has drawn great attention in the past decade. In this review, we systematically summarized the strategies utilized for the preparation and growth of oriented MOFs, highlighting the possibilities of each synthetic approach as well as the challenges they have to overcome. Herein, we have also explored the orientation of MOF-on-MOF hybrids. Finally, we have presented the advantages of oriented MOF crystals over their randomly oriented counterparts in different applications, including adsorptions, separations, catalysis, sensing, energy storage, etc. We hope this review shows the tremendous possibilities of oriented MOFs and helps the reader better comprehend oriented MOF synthesis, properties, and applications.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained significant scientific interest due to their wide-ranging applications across various disciplines. Precisely controlling the crystal size of MOFs plays a pivotal role in enhancing their performance for practical applications. Nevertheless, achieving the rational synthesis of MOFs with desired size distributions remains a formidable challenge. In this research, we elucidate the crystallization mechanism of MOFs and propose an enlightening approach to systematically synthesize MOFs with diverse size distributions. Using MIL-88A as a case study, we uncover its crystallization mechanism characterized as oriented assembling and Ostwald ripening. Our investigation reveals that the ratio of the assembling rate to the ripening rate, denoted as VA/VR, exerts a profound influence on the resulting size distribution of MOFs. Specifically, higher VA/VR values yield both larger average sizes and increased standard deviation in the size distribution. We introduce VA/VR as the size variation factor and demonstrate its efficacy as a guiding principle for tailoring the synthesis of MIL-88A with distinct size distributions. Furthermore, we showcase the versatility of the size variation factor VA/VR by applying it successfully to the controlled synthesis of other MOFs, including MOF-14 and HKUST-1. These findings offer profound insights into the fundamental principles governing MOFs crystallization, paving the way for more effective and precise synthesis methodologies.

Abstract:This review provides a comprehensive overview of recent advances in design strategies for synthesizing solution‐processable metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) and MOF‐based systems, including methods such as direct dispersion in ionic liquids, direct synthesis, etc. It emphasizes their applications in fabricating structured objects, membranes, and/or films for molecular storage, separation, and chemical sensing. The review also discusses future challenges and perspectives. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), constructed by inorganic secondary building units with organic linkers via reticular chemistry, inherently suffer from poor solution processability due to their insoluble nature, resulting from their extensive crystalline networks and structural rigidity. The ubiquitous occurrence of precipitation and agglomeration of MOFs upon formation poses a significant obstacle to the scale‐up production of MOF‐based monolith, aerogels, membranes, and electronic devices, thus restricting their practical applications in various scenarios. To address the previously mentioned challenge, significant strides have been achieved over the past decade in the development of various strategies aimed at preparing solution‐processable MOF systems. In this review, the latest advance in the synthetic strategies for the construction of solution‐processable MOFs, including direct dispersion in ionic liquids, surface modification, controllable calcination, and bottom‐up synthesis, is comprehensively summarized. The respective advantages and disadvantages of each method are discussed. Additionally, the intriguing applications of solution‐processable MOF systems in the fields of liquid adsorbent, molecular capture, sensing, and separation are systematically discussed. Finally, the challenges and opportunities about the continued advancement of solution‐processable MOFs and their potential applications are outlooked.

Abstract:Extensive attention has been paid to metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) due to their interesting structures and plenty of potential applications in catalysis, chemical sensors, magnetism, drug delivery, gas separation and storage. A variety of synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of multifunctional MOFs with complicated structures and attracting properties (such as solvothermal, hydrothermal, urothermal and ionothermal methods), have been developed. Recently, the surfactant-assisted strategy for the synthesis, adjustment and control of multifunctional MOFs has attracted extensive research interest, because surfactants forcefully determine the dimensions, phases, and morphologies of MOFs materials via acting as emulsifiers, detergents, foaming agents, wetting agents or dispersants. This review offers recent developments and prospects in the surfactants as promising templates in the field of growing MOFs, namely, surfactant-assisted strategy for the synthesis of crystalline MOFs, the separation of the pure single-phase of MOFs, the control of the pore's sizes and morphologies of MOFs (such as core/shell, nanodisks, nano plates, nanorods, nanosheets) as well as their mechanism. Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have great potential for a wide range of applications given their flexible structures and pore networks. Morphology control directly affects the properties and applications of MOFs. Unfortunately, governing the desired dimension and shape of MOFs is often limited by macrosystems that require organic solvents and additives while including time-consuming treatments. Microfluidics as a practical alternative provides precise manipulation of microscale liquid, has the potential to be a superior platform for directed crystal generation. Here we reported an AC electrokinetic (EK) mixing-assisted micro-synthesis method, which allowed the actively controlled synthesis of MOFs in aqueous phase. The effects of flow rate, molar-ratio of precursors, electric field intensity, and frequency on the synthesis of zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) were investigated. Using this method, the particle size of ZIF-8 were varied, and the geometry were changed between flower-like polyhedra, cubes, spheres, and rhombic dodecahedra. Furthermore, the synthesized various ZIF-8 provide different levels of immobilization sites based on their morphological deviations. The flower-like cubic ZIF-8 had defect structures and exhibited a maximum horseradish peroxidase (HRP) loading of about 16%. The study provides a simple, green and reliable tuning strategy for breaking the single morphological form of MOFs to enhance their physicochemical properties.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted great attention and become one of the most intensively studied topics due to their high surface area, large porosity, tunable pore structure and functionality. However, MOFs are typically obtained as powders, which is not suitable for many industrial applications. Therefore, processing MOF powders into specific ordered structures is of great importance to promote the successful implementation of these materials in industry. Recently, interfacial technique has proven to be an effective approach to shape MOFs into 0-dimensional, 1-dimensional, 2-dimensional, and 3-dimensional superstructures. In this review, state-of-the-art developments of gas–solid, gas–liquid, liquid–solid, and liquid–liquid interfaces used to fabricate MOF superstructures are comprehensively summarized, and current challenges and future research directions are briefly discussed.

Abstract:The physicochemical properties of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) significantly depend on composition, topology, and porosity, which can be tuned via synthesis. In addition to a classic direct synthesis, postsynthesis modulations of MOFs, including ion exchange, installation, and destruction, can significantly expand the application. Because of a limitation of the qualitative hard and soft acids and bases (HSAB) theory, posttreatment permits regulation of MOF structure by cleaving chemical bonds at the molecular level. Here, methods of coordination bond scission to tailor the structure are critically appraised and the application to energy storage and conversion is assessed. MOF structures synthesized by molecular-level coordination bond cleavage are described and the corresponding MOFs for electrocatalysis and renewable battery applications are evaluated. Significant emphasis is placed on various coordination bond cleavage to tune properties, including chemical groups, electronic structures, and morphologies. The review concludes with a critical perspective on practical application, together with challenges and future outlook for this emerging field.

Abstract:Crystalline metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered extensive attention owing to their highly ordered porous structure and physicochemical properties. However, their practical application often requires their integration with various substrates, which is challenging because of their weakly adhesive nature and the diversity of substrates that exhibit different properties. Herein, we report the use of amorphous metal–phenolic network coatings to facilitate the growth of crystalline MOF coatings on various particle and planar substrates. Crystalline MOFs with different metal ions and morphologies were successfully deposited on substrates (13 types) of varying sizes, shapes, and surface chemistries. Furthermore, the physicochemical properties of the coated crystalline MOFs (e.g., composition, thickness) could be tuned using different synthesis conditions. The engineered MOF-coated membranes demonstrated excellent liquid and gas separation performance, exhibiting a high H2 permeance of 63200 GPU and a H2/CH4 selectivity of 10.19, likely attributable to the thin nature of the coating (~180 nm), which can be realized using the present strategy. Considering the vast array of MOFs available (>90,000) and the diversity of substrates, this work is expected to pave the way for creating a wide range of MOF composites and coatings with potential applications in biomedicine, environmental science, and agriculture.

Abstract:This review focuses on the microstructure design of MOFs and their derivatives, including special morphologies such as core–shell, yolk–shell, multi‐shelled, sandwich structures, and unique crystal surface exposures. It reviews their applications in energy, catalysis, atmospheric water harvesting, seawater uranium extraction, and triboelectric nanogenerators, and finally, it looks forward to the challenges and opportunities in regulating the synthesis of MOFs. Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are a very promising material in the fields of energy and catalysis due to their rich active sites, tunable pore size, structural adaptability, and high specific surface area. The concepts of "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" have opened up huge development opportunities in the fields of energy storage, energy conversion, and catalysis, and have made significant progress and breakthroughs. In recent years, people have shown great interest in the development of MOFs materials and their applications in the above research fields. This review introduces the design strategies and latest progress of MOFs are included based on their structures such as core–shell, yolk–shell, multi‐shelled, sandwich structures, unique crystal surface exposures, and MOF‐derived nanomaterials in detail. This work comprehensively and systematically reviews the applications of MOF‐based materials in energy and catalysis and reviews the research progress of MOF materials for atmospheric water harvesting, seawater uranium extraction, and triboelectric nanogenerators. Finally, this review looks forward to the challenges and opportunities of controlling the synthesis of MOFs through low‐cost, improved conductivity, high‐temperature heat resistance, and integration with machine learning. This review provides useful references for promoting the application of MOFs‐based materials in the aforementioned fields.

Abstract:The self-assembly of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is crucial for the functional design of materials, including energy storage materials, catalysts, selective separation materials and optical crystals. However, oriented self-assembly of MOFs is still a challenge. Herein, we propose a novel strategy to drive oriented self-assembly of MOF polyhedral particles at the water–liquid interface by photoinitiated monomer polymerization. The MOF polyhedral particles self-assemble into ordered close-packed structures with obvious orientation in the polymer film, and the orientation is determined by the casting solvent on the water surface. The prepared large-area MOF polymer films show a Janus structure, containing a MOF monolayer and a polymer layer, and can be easily transferred to a variety of substrates. In addition, mixed MOF particles with different sizes and morphologies can also be assembled by this method. This novel method can be foreseen to provide a powerful driving force for the development of MOF self-assembly and to create more possibilities for utilizing the anisotropic properties of MOFs.

Abstract:In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored. Through analysis and simulations, fundamental mechanisms, offering insights into MOFs′ potential in ion transport are aimed to elucidate. The present study examines the potential coupling between dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in metal‐organic framework (MOF) compounds. MOFs are known for their high porosity and customizable properties. By integrating freely rotating dipolar groups into the ligands, a novel structure, CFA‐25, akin to the known BUT‐2 framework, is synthesized. This facilitated the investigation of local and macroscopic effects, particularly the possible interplay between dipolar units and Cs cations. The research aimed to understand fundamental dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport, employing Cs ions for their X‐ray diffraction characterizability. Experimental analysis using dielectric spectroscopy, complemented by theoretical simulations, explored questions regarding glassy freezing of re‐orientational dynamics, Cs cation motion within the network, and the influence of dipolar units on transport. Contrary to previous reports, this work finds that Cs transport exhibits substantial barriers, necessitating specialized simulation techniques for accurate characterization. This interdisciplinary approach sheds light on the intricate dynamics of MOFs and offers insights into their potential applications involving ion transport phenomena.
