Abstract:Aiming at the problems of insufficient ability of artificial COA in the late optimization search period, loss of population diversity, easy to fall into local extreme value, resulting in slow convergence and lack of exploration ability; In this paper, an improved COA algorithm based on chaotic sequence, nonlinear inertia weight, adaptive T-distribution variation strategy and alert updating strategy is proposed to enhance the performance of COA (shorted as TNTWCOA). The algorithm introduces chaotic sequence mechanism to initialize the position. The position distribution of the initial solution is more uniform, the high quality initial solution is generated, the population richness is increased, and the problem of poor quality and uneven initial solution of the Coati Optimization Algorithm is solved. In exploration phase, the nonlinear inertial weight factor is introduced to coordinate the local optimization ability and global search ability of the algorithm. In the exploitation phase, adaptive T-distribution variation is introduced to increase the diversity of individual population under low fitness value and improve the ability of the algorithm to jump out of the local optimal value. At the same time, the alert update mechanism is proposed to improve the alert ability of COA algorithm, so that it can search within the optional range. When Coati is aware of the danger, Coati on the edge of the population will quickly move to the safe area to obtain a better position, while Coati in the middle of the population will randomly move to get closer to other Coatis. IEEE CEC2017 with 29 classic test functions were used to evaluate the convergence speed, convergence accuracy and other indicators of TNTWCOA algorithm. Meanwhile, TNTWCOA was used to verify 4 engineering design optimization problems, such as pressure vessel optimization design and welding beam design. The results of IEEE CEC2017 and engineering design Optimization problems are compared with Improved Coati Optimization Algorithm (ICOA), Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA), Golden Jackal Optimization Algorithm (GJO), Osprey Optimization Algorithm (OOA), Sand Cat Swarm Optimization Algorithm (SCSO), Subtraction-Average-Based Optimizer (SABO). The experimental results show that the improved TNTWCOA algorithm significantly improves the convergence speed and optimization accuracy, and has good robustness. Three‐bar truss design problem, The Gear Train Design Problem, Speed reducer design problem shows a strong solution advantage. The superior optimization ability and engineering practicability of TNTWCOA algorithm are verified.

Abstract:Cuckoo optimization algorithm (COA) is inspired from the special and exotic lifestyle of a bird family called the cuckoo and her amazing and unique behavior in egg laying and breeding. Just like any other population-based swarm intelligence metaheuristic algorithms, the basic COA starts with a set of randomly generated solutions called “habitats.” Actually, the habitats can be the current locations of either the mature cuckoos or their eggs. In an iterative manner, cuckoos lay their eggs around their habitats inside the other birds’ nests by mimicking their eggs’ color, pattern, and size, and this is a kind of parasitic brooding behavior. Some hosts may discriminate the strange eggs and throw them out while the others not. The survival competition between cuckoos and their hosts, and migration of cuckoos in swarm are two main underlying motivations to introduce the COA. In this paper, an adaptive cuckoo optimization algorithm named A-COA is proposed in which three novelties in egg-laying and migration phases are applied. These modifications have made the basic algorithm more efficient with faster convergence to solve continuous and discrete optimization problems. A comprehensive comparison study of A-COA versus not only the basic COA but also some other conventional metaheuristics like GA, PSO, ABC, and TLBO has been made on a variety of unimodal and multimodal numerical benchmark functions with different characteristics, and the results show an overall 25.85% of improvement in terms of performance with a faster convergence speed compared to the basic COA, where the statistical Wilcoxon rank-sum test certifies our conclusions. In addition, a discretized version of A-COA and its application to the multiprocessor task scheduling problem as a complex combinatorial optimization problem are investigated where the proposed A-COA is very competitive with not only the strongest conventional heuristics, for example, MCP, ETF, and DLS, but also the basic COA and the newly proposed ACO-based approach.

Abstract:Multimodal multi-objective problems refer to situations where more than one Pareto set in the decision space corresponds to the same Pareto front in the objective space. In this paper, we propose a multimodal multi-objective coati optimization algorithm based on spectral clustering (MMOCOA-SC) for use in multimodal multi-objective problems. The algorithm starts by creating stable subpopulations via a spectral clustering method, grouping similar individuals within each subpopulation. Then, an improved coati optimization algorithm is proposed in order to increase the diversity of the population and continuously search for near-Pareto optimal solutions. Finally, we use an improved crowding distance method combined with a non-dominated sorting method to maintain and retain multiple near-Pareto optimal solutions. The MMOCOA-SC is evaluated alongside five state-of-the-art algorithms using the 2020 CEC test suite, IDMP test problems, and twelve classic engineering application problems. In comparison to the other five state-of-the-art algorithms, the experimental results show that MMOCOA-SC exhibits a superior performance when applied to the problems. This study explores multimodal multi-objective optimization algorithms with a focus on the concept of symmetry, which is crucial for multimodal multi-objective optimization problems in terms of achieving a balanced decision space and a diversity of solutions in the objective space.

Abstract:Meta-heuristic algorithms, due to their high search speed and strong generalization ability, are frequently applied in programs mainly to discover the corresponding optimal strategy for any problem in view of their defined rules. After years of collision evolution, they have been continuously used to solve the complex, unordered and diverse optimization problems and improve efficiency. Aiming at the problems of low convergence accuracy and easy to fall into local optima of the traditional Harris hawks optimization algorithm, a compound improved Harris Hawks Optimization algorithm (CIHHO) is proposed. Firstly, the early circling exploration and later attack exploitation phase of the dynamic adjustment algorithm for environmental factors is introduced to regulate the energy of Harris hawks; Secondly, the concept of Versoria function is introduced to modify the random jump strength and raise the data grabbing ability of local space; Introducing the Levy flight function to adjust the factor and reduce the disturbance impact of Levy flight is beneficial for getting rid of the local space after entering the exploitation phase, and introducing random white noise to reduce step size and improve algorithm accuracy. Taking CEC 2017 test function suite set as the core, the performance of CIHHO algorithm is analyzed. Firstly, the performance of CIHHO algorithm is compared with HHO, HHO_JOS, LHHO, LMHHO and NCHHO. Secondly, the performance of unimodal function, multimodal function, mixed function and compound function is compared with other 7 improved algorithms. Finally, ablation experiments are carried out. The convergence value of the iterative curve obtained is more quantitative than the improved algorithm, The generality of the improved CIHHO algorithm in solving multiple optimization problems with different dimensions is verified. Further applying the CIHHO algorithm to three different engineering experiments, the minimum cost calculation results directly demonstrate that the CIHHO algorithm obtained has certain advantages in dealing with search space problems.

Coati Optimization Algorithm: A new bio-inspired metaheuristic algorithm for solving optimization problems

Abstract:In this paper, a new metaheuristic algorithm called the Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA) is introduced, which mimics coati behavior in nature. The fundamental idea of COA is the simulation of the two natural behaviors of coatis: (i) their behavior when attacking and hunting iguanas and (ii) their escape from predators. The implementation steps of COA are described and mathematically modeled in two phases of exploration and exploitation. COA performance is evaluated on fifty-one objective functions, including twenty-nine functions from the IEEE CEC-2017 test suite and twenty-two real-world applications from the IEEE CEC-2011 test suite. COA's results are compared to those of eleven well-known metaheuristic algorithms. The simulation results indicate that COA has an evident superiority over the compared algorithms by balancing exploration in global search and exploitation in local search, and is far more competitive. To assess the COA's effectiveness in real-world applications, the proposed approach is implemented on the IEEE CEC-2011 test functions and four practical optimization problems, which the simulation results indicate the high capability of COA in dealing with these types of optimization problems.

Abstract:As a widely used path planning algorithm, the ant colony optimization algorithm (ACO) has evolved into a well-developed method within the realm of optimization algorithms and has been extensively applied across various fields. In this study, a multi-strategy adaptable ant colony optimization (MAACO) is proposed to alleviate the insufficient and inefficient convergence of ACO, employing four-design improvements. First, a direction-guidance mechanism is proposed to improve the performance of node selection. Second, an adaptive heuristic function is introduced to decrease the length and number of turns of the optimal path solutions. Moreover, the deterministic state transition probability rule was employed to promote the convergence speed of ACO. Finally, nonuniform pheromone initialization was utilized to enhance the ability of ACO to select advantageous regions. Subsequently, the major parameters of the strategies were optimized and their effectiveness was validated. MAACO was proposed by combining these four strategies with ACO. To verify the advantages of MAACO, five representative environment models were employed, and comprehensive experiments were conducted by comparing them with existing approaches, including the A* algorithm, variants of ACO, Dijkstra's algorithm, jump point search algorithm, best-first search, breadth-first search, trace algorithm, and other excellent algorithms. The experimental statistical results demonstrate that MAACO can efficiently generate smoother optimal path-planning solutions with lower length and turn times and improve the convergence efficiency and stability of ACO compared to other algorithms. The generated results of MAACO verified its superiority in solving the path-planning problem of mobile robots.

Abstract:The recently introduced Artificial Hummingbird Algorithm (AHA) exhibits competitive performance in developing optimization concerns. However, AHA has an imbalance between exploration and utilization abilities, often prematurely converging with low precision. Therefore, in this paper, a multi-strategy boosted hybrid artificial hummingbird algorithm called LCAHA combined with sinusoidal chaotic map strategy, Lévy flight, cross, and update foraging strategy is proposed. Firstly, LCAHA is initialized by the sinusoidal chaotic map strategy to obtain a population with better ergodicity . Secondly, introducing the Lévy flight can boost the diversity of the population, control premature convergence and boost the stability of the population. Then, two new strategies, cross foraging and update foraging, are introduced. The introduction of new foraging strategies further enhances the exploration and developmental capabilities. These three strategies work together to improve the overall performance of the AHA. Finally, the performance of the LCAHA is examined on 23 classical test suites, the CEC2017, CEC2019, and CEC2020 test suites, and six engineering optimization cases. The numerical experimental results show that LCAHA provides very promising numerical results in solving challenging optimization problems . The algorithm is applied to two spacecraft trajectory optimization cases. The experimental results demonstrate the applicability and potential of the LCAHA in solving practical applications.

Hybrid Multi-Objective Chameleon Optimization Algorithm Based on Multi-Strategy Fusion and Its Applications

Abstract:Aiming at the problems of chameleon swarm algorithm (CSA), such as slow convergence speed, poor robustness, and ease of falling into the local optimum, a multi-strategy improved chameleon optimization algorithm (ICSA) is herein proposed. Firstly, logistic mapping was introduced to initialize the chameleon population to improve the diversity of the initial population. Secondly, in the prey-search stage, the sub-population spiral search strategy was introduced to improve the global search ability and optimization accuracy of the algorithm. Then, considering the blindness of chameleon's eye turning to find prey, the Lévy flight strategy with cosine adaptive weight was combined with greed strategy to enhance the guidance of random exploration in the eyes' rotation stage. Finally, a nonlinear varying weight was introduced to update the chameleon position in the prey-capture stage, and the refraction reverse-learning strategy was used to improve the population activity in the later stage so as to improve the ability of the algorithm to jump out of the local optimum. Eighteen functions in the CEC2005 benchmark test set were selected as an experimental test set, and the performance of ICSA was tested and compared with five other swarm intelligent optimization algorithms. The analysis of the experimental results of 30 independent runs showed that ICSA has stronger convergence performance and optimization ability. Finally, ICSA was applied to the UAV path-planning problem. The simulation results showed that compared with other algorithms, the paths generated by ICSA in different terrain scenarios are shorter and more stable.

Abstract:Aiming at the problems such as slow search speed, low optimization accuracy, and premature convergence of standard seagull optimization algorithm, an enhanced hybrid strategy seagull optimization algorithm was proposed. First, chaos mapping is used to generate the initial population to increase the diversity of the population, which lays the foundation for the global search. Then, a nonlinear convergence parameter and inertia weight are introduced to improve the convergence factor and to balance the global exploration and local development of the algorithm, so as to accelerate the convergence speed. Finally, an imitation crossover mutation strategy is introduced to avoid premature convergence of the algorithm. Comparison and verification between MSSOA and its incomplete algorithms are better than SOA, indicating that each improvement is effective and its incomplete algorithms all improve SOA to different degrees in both exploration and exploitation. 25 classic functions and the CEC2014 benchmark functions were tested, and compared with seven well-known meta-heuristic algorithms and its improved algorithm to evaluate the validity of the algorithm. The algorithm can explore different regions of the search space, avoid local optimum and converge to global optimum. Compared with other algorithms, the results of non-parametric statistical analysis and performance index show that the enhanced algorithm in this paper has better comprehensive optimization performance, significantly improves the search speed and convergence precision, and has strong ability to get rid of the local optimal solution. At the same time, in order to prove its applicability and feasibility, it is used to solve two constrained mechanical engineering design problems contain the interpolation curve engineering design and the aircraft wing design. The engineering curve shape with minimum energy, minimum curvature, and the smoother shape of airfoil with low drag are obtained. It is proved that enhanced algorithm in this paper can solve practical problems with constrained and unknown search space highly effectively.

Abstract:The Mayfly Optimization Algorithm (MOA), as a new biomimetic metaheuristic algorithm with superior algorithm framework and optimization methods, plays a remarkable role in solving optimization problems. However, there are still shortcomings of convergence speed and local optimization in this algorithm. This paper proposes a metaheuristic algorithm for continuous and constrained global optimization problems, which combines the MOA, the Aquila Optimizer (AO), and the opposition-based learning (OBL) strategy, called AOBLMOA, to overcome the shortcomings of the MOA. The proposed algorithm first fuses the high soar with vertical stoop method and the low flight with slow descent attack method in the AO into the position movement process of the male mayfly population in the MOA. Then, it incorporates the contour flight with short glide attack and the walk and grab prey methods in the AO into the positional movement of female mayfly populations in the MOA. Finally, it replaces the gene mutation behavior of offspring mayfly populations in the MOA with the OBL strategy. To verify the optimization ability of the new algorithm, we conduct three sets of experiments. In the first experiment, we apply AOBLMOA to 19 benchmark functions to test whether it is the optimal strategy among multiple combined strategies. In the second experiment, we test AOBLMOA by using 30 CEC2017 numerical optimization problems and compare it with state-of-the-art metaheuristic algorithms. In the third experiment, 10 CEC2020 real-world constrained optimization problems are used to demonstrate the applicability of AOBLMOA to engineering design problems. The experimental results show that the proposed AOBLMOA is effective and superior and is feasible in numerical optimization problems and engineering design problems.

Abstract:Claire O'Brien, reporting on the discovery of Alois Alzheimer's patient file by Konrad Maurer and his colleagues (News & Comment, [5 July, p. 28][1]), correctly says that clinical neurologists are eager to examine the file and possibly make a new diagnosis. In 1989, K. L. Bick and I reported ([1][2]) that this case was likely one of those described by Gaetano Perusini in 1910 ([2][3]). Both the temporal evidence and the clinical description support this conclusion. The histopathology of Perusini's case shows neurofibrillary tangles and senile plaques, but also some features that are not characteristic of Alzheimer's disease, namely, demyelination of central white matter and metachromatic deposits in the spinal cord after it was stained by toluidine blue ([2][3]). Staining techniques for metachromasia were the topic of a long paper by Alzheimer that appeared a few pages after Perusini's paper in the same publication ([3][4]). Dynamic Multi-Objective Lion Swarm Optimization with Multi-strategy Fusion: An application in 6R robot trajectory planning

Abstract:The advancement of industrialization has spurred the development of innovative swarm intelligence algorithms, with Lion Swarm Optimization (LSO) notable for its robustness, parallelism, simplicity, and efficiency. While LSO excels in single-objective optimization, its multi-objective variants face challenges such as poor initialization, local optima entrapment, and so on. This study proposes Dynamic Multi-Objective Lion Swarm Optimization with Multi-strategy Fusion (MF-DMOLSO) to address these limitations. MF-DMOLSO comprises three key components: initialization, swarm position update, and external archive update. The initialization unit employs chaotic mapping for uniform population distribution. The position update unit enhances behavior patterns and step size formulas for cub lions, incorporating crowding degree sorting, Pareto non-dominated sorting, and Levy flight to improve convergence speed and global search capabilities. Reference points guide convergence in higher-dimensional spaces, maintaining population diversity. An adaptive cold-hot start strategy generates a population responsive to environmental changes. The external archive update unit re-evaluates solutions based on non-domination and diversity to form the new population. Evaluations on benchmark functions showed MF-DMOLSO surpassed multi-objective particle swarm optimization, non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II, and multi-objective lion swarm optimization, exceeding 90% accuracy for two-objective and 97% for three-objective problems. Compared to non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm III, MF-DMOLSO showed a 60% improvement. Applied to 6R robot trajectory planning, MF-DMOLSO optimized running time and maximum acceleration to 8.3s and 0.3pi rad/s^2, achieving a set coverage rate of 70.97% compared to 2% by multi-objective particle swarm optimization, thus improving efficiency and reducing mechanical dither.

Abstract:Aerodynamic shape optimization is frequently complicated and challenging due to the involvement of multiple objectives, large-scale decision variables, and expensive cost function evaluation. This paper presents a bilayer parallel hybrid algorithm framework coupling multi-objective local search and global evolution mechanism to improve the optimization efficiency and convergence accuracy in high-dimensional design space. Specifically, an efficient multi-objective hybrid algorithm (MOHA) and a gradient-based surrogate-assisted multi-objective hybrid algorithm (GS-MOHA) are developed under this framework. In MOHA, a novel multi-objective gradient operator is proposed to accelerate the exploration of the Pareto front, and it introduces new individuals to enhance the diversity of the population. Afterward, MOHA achieves a trade-off between exploitation and exploration by selecting elite individuals in the local search space during the evolutionary process. Furthermore, a surrogate-assisted hybrid algorithm based on the gradient-enhanced Kriging with the partial least squares(GEKPLS) approach is established to improve the engineering applicability of MOHA. The optimization results of benchmark functions demonstrate that MOHA is less constrained by dimensionality and can solve multi-objective optimization problems (MOPs) with up to 1000 decision variables. Compared to existing MOEAs, MOHA demonstrates notable enhancements in optimization efficiency and convergence accuracy, specifically achieving a remarkable 5–10 times increase in efficiency. In addition, the optimization efficiency of GS-MOHA is approximately five times that of MOEA/D-EGO and twice that of K-RVEA in the 30-dimensional test functions. Finally, the multi-objective optimization results of the airfoil shape design validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms and their potential for engineering applications.

Abstract:With the growing prevalence of drone technology across various sectors, efficient and safe path planning has emerged as a critical research priority. Traditional Aquila Optimizers, while effective, face limitations such as uneven population initialization, a tendency to get trapped in local optima, and slow convergence rates. This study presents a multi-strategy fusion of the improved Aquila Optimizer, aiming to enhance its performance by integrating diverse optimization techniques, particularly in the context of path planning. Key enhancements include the integration of Bernoulli chaotic mapping to improve initial population diversity, a spiral stepping strategy to boost search precision and diversity, and a "stealing" mechanism from the Dung Beetle Optimization algorithm to enhance global search capabilities and convergence. Additionally, a nonlinear balance factor is employed to dynamically manage the exploration–exploitation trade-off, thereby increasing the optimization of speed and accuracy. The effectiveness of the mixed multi-strategy improved Aquila Optimizer is validated through simulations on benchmark test functions, CEC2017 complex functions, and path planning scenarios. Comparative analysis with seven other optimization algorithms reveals that the proposed method significantly improves both convergence speed and optimization accuracy. These findings highlight the potential of mixed multi-strategy improved Aquila Optimizer in advancing drone path planning performance, offering enhanced safety and efficiency.

Abstract:As the complexity of optimization problems continues to rise, the demand for high-performance algorithms becomes increasingly urgent. This paper addresses the challenges faced by the Aquila Optimizer (AO), a novel swarm-based intelligent optimizer simulating the predatory behaviors of Aquila in North America. While AO has shown good performance in prior studies, it grapples with issues such as poor convergence accuracy and a tendency to fall into local optima when tackling complex optimization tasks. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a multi-strategy boosted AO algorithm (PGAO) aimed at providing enhanced reliability for global optimization. The proposed algorithm incorporates several key strategies. Initially, a chaotic map is employed to initialize the positions of all search agents, enriching population diversity and laying a solid foundation for global exploration. Subsequently, the pinhole imaging learning strategy is introduced to identify superior candidate solutions in the opposite direction of the search domain during each iteration, accelerating convergence and increasing the probability of obtaining the global optimal solution. To achieve a more effective balance between the exploration and development phases in AO, a nonlinear switching factor is designed to replace the original fixed switching mechanism. Finally, the golden sine operator is utilized to enhance the algorithm's local exploitation trends. Through these four improvement strategies, the optimization performance of AO is significantly enhanced. The proposed PGAO algorithm's effectiveness is validated across 23 classical, 29 IEEE CEC2017, and 10 IEEE CEC2019 benchmark functions. Additionally, six real-world engineering design problems are employed to assess the practicability of PGAO. Results demonstrate that PGAO exhibits better competitiveness and application prospects compared to the basic method and various advanced algorithms. In conclusion, this study contributes to addressing the challenges of complex optimization problems, significantly improving the performance of global optimization algorithms, and holds both theoretical and practical significance.

Abstract:Addressing the imbalance between exploration and exploitation, slow convergence, local optima Traps, and low convergence precision in the Northern Goshawk Optimizer (NGO): Introducing a Multi-Strategy Integrated Northern Goshawk Optimizer (MINGO). In response to challenges faced by the Northern Goshawk Optimizer (NGO), including issues like the imbalance between exploration and exploitation, slow convergence, susceptibility to local optima, and low convergence precision, this paper introduces an enhanced variant known as the Multi-Strategy Integrated Northern Goshawk Optimizer (MINGO). The algorithm tackles the balance between exploration and exploitation by improving exploration strategies and development approaches. It incorporates Levy flight strategies to preserve population diversity and enhance convergence precision. Additionally, to avoid getting trapped in local optima, the algorithm introduces Cauchy mutation strategies, improving its capability to escape local optima during the search process. Finally, individuals with poor fitness are eliminated using the crossover strategy of the Differential Evolution algorithm to enhance the overall population quality. To assess the performance of MINGO, this paper conducts an analysis from four perspectives: population diversity, balance between exploration and exploitation, convergence behavior, and various strategy variants. Furthermore, MINGO undergoes testing on the CEC-2017 and CEC-2022 benchmark problems. The test results, along with the Wilcoxon rank-sum test results, demonstrate that MINGO outperforms NGO and other advanced optimization algorithms in terms of overall performance. Finally, the applicability and superiority of MINGO are further validated on six real-world engineering problems and a 3D Trajectory planning for UAVs.

Abstract:The recently proposed Coati Optimization Algorithm (COA) is one of the swarm-based intelligence algorithms. In this study, the current COA algorithm is developed and Enhanced COA (ECOA) is proposed. There is an imbalance between the exploitation and exploration capabilities of the COA. To balance the exploration and exploitation capabilities of COA in the search space, the algorithm has been improved with two modifications. These modifications are those that preserve population diversity for a longer period of time during local and global searches. Thus, some of the drawbacks of COA in search strategies are eliminated. The achievements of COA and ECOA were tested in four different test groups. COA and ECOA were first compared on twenty-three classic CEC functions in three different dimensions (10, 20, and 30). Later, ECOA was tested on CEC-2017 with twenty-nine functions and on CEC-2020 with ten functions, and its success was demonstrated in different dimensions (5, 10, and 30). Finally, ECOA has been shown to be successful in different cycles (300, 500, and 1000) on Big Data Optimization Problems (BOP), which have high dimensions. Friedman and Wilcoxon tests were performed on the results, and the obtained results were analyzed in detail. According to the results, ECOA outperformed COA in all comparisons performed. In order to prove the success of ECOA, seven newly proposed algorithms (EMA, FHO, SHO, HBA, SMA, SOA, and JAYA) were selected from the literature in the last few years and compared with ECOA and COA. In the classical test functions, ECOA achieved the best results, surpassing all other algorithms when compared. It achieved the second-best results in CEC-2020 test functions and entered the top four in CEC-2017 and BOP test functions. According to the results, ECOA can be used as an alternative algorithm for solving small, medium, and large-scale continuous optimization problems.

A competitive game optimization algorithm for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle path planning

Abstract:To solve the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) path planning problem, a meta-heuristic optimization algorithm called competitive game optimizer (CGO) is proposed. In the CGO model, three phases of exploration and exploitation, and candidate replacement, are established, corresponding to the player's search for supplies and combat, and the movement toward a safe zone. In the algorithm exploration phase, Levy flight is introduced to improve the global convergence of the algorithm. The encounter probability which adaptively changes with the number of iterations is also introduced in the CGO. The balance between exploration and exploitation of solution space of optimization problem is realized, and each step is described and modeled mathematically. The performance of the CGO was evaluated on a set of 41 test functions taken from CEC2017 and CEC2022. It was then compared with eight widely recognized meta-heuristic optimization algorithms. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm successfully achieves a balanced trade-off between exploration and exploitation, showcasing remarkable advantages when compared to seven classical algorithms. In addition, in order to further verify the effectiveness of the CGO, the CGO is applied to 8 practical engineering design problems and UAV path planning, and the results show that the CGO has strong performance in dealing with these practical optimization problems, and has a good application prospect.

Abstract:To accelerate the convergence of multi-objective optimization algorithm and achieve an optimization solution set with good diversity, this paper proposes the Pacesetter-Lévy Multi-Objective Particle Swarm Optimization using Arnold Chaotic Map with Opposition-Based Learning algorithm (PLMOPSOCO). Firstly, the Arnold Chaotic Map with Opposition-based Learning is proposed to generate some valuable particles in the stage of initialization while maintaining the diversity of population, which can speed up exploration. Secondly, a competition mechanism with k-means clustering is integrated to categorize particles into losers and winners. The flight direction of the loser particles is adjusted according to the Pacesetter-Lévy kinetic equation, an innovative approach to effectively enhance the population's exploitative ability. Thirdly, a crossover mutation is implemented to assist particles to escape local optima and prevent population stagnation. Comparative studies on benchmark functions demonstrate that this new algorithm is more competitive in terms of both diversity and convergence when compared to several advanced multi-objective algorithms.

Abstract:Crayfish Optimization Algorithm (COA) is innovative and easy to implement, but the crayfish search efficiency decreases in the later stage of the algorithm, and the algorithm is easy to fall into local optimum. To solve these problems, this paper proposes an modified crayfish optimization algorithm (MCOA). Based on the survival habits of crayfish, MCOA proposes an environmental renewal mechanism that uses water quality factors to guide crayfish to seek a better environment. In addition, integrating a learning strategy based on ghost antagonism into MCOA enhances its ability to evade local optimality. To evaluate the performance of MCOA, tests were performed using the IEEE CEC2020 benchmark function and experiments were conducted using four constraint engineering problems and feature selection problems. For constrained engineering problems, MCOA is improved by 11.16%, 1.46%, 0.08% and 0.24%, respectively, compared with COA. For feature selection problems, the average fitness value and accuracy are improved by 55.23% and 10.85%, respectively. MCOA shows better optimization performance in solving complex spatial and practical application problems. The combination of the environment updating mechanism and the learning strategy based on ghost antagonism significantly improves the performance of MCOA. This discovery has important implications for the development of the field of optimization.
