Abstract:Glutathione (GSH) is an important biological free radical scavenger, aiding in the prevention of oxidative stress in living organisms. A decrease in GSH concentration in cells or bodily fluids is associated with serious health issues including certain cancers and Alzheimer's disease. Rapid detection and quantification of salivary glutathione could play a crucial role in healthcare monitoring as well as in therapeutic progress. This paper reports on the development of a direct electrochemical surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopic (EC‐SERS) method for the monitoring of glutathione deposited via drop casting from a prepared aqueous stock solution and measured in 0.1 M sodium fluoride and in artificial saliva. The detection platform for this study is constructed by modifying the working electrode of a carbon screen‐printed electrode with silver nanoparticles of approximately 30 nm in diameter, followed by potassium chloride treatment to remove interfering citrate anions prior to analysis. The coupling of SERS and an applied electrochemical potential resulted in a significantly enhanced spectrum for glutathione compared to those previously reported. Vibrational mode assignment confirmed that glutathione was indeed in close proximity to the surface of the working electrode and had varying anchor points as the potential was stepped anodically. Quantitative analysis of GSH in artificial saliva showed that the 653 cm‐1 marker peak intensity varies linearly (R2=0.990) over the concentration of 0.005 mM – 1.00 mM on the modified electrode surface. The signal limit of detection (LOD) of glutathione using EC‐SERS in artificial saliva was determined to be 5 μM. This direct and rapid EC‐SERS detection platform is promising for point‐of‐care development.

Cutaneous and pulmonary sarcoidosis in a Hong Kong Chinese woman with silicone breast prostheses

Abstract:Abstract: Sarcoidosis is rarely reported in Hong Kong. We report cutaneous and pulmonary sarcoidosis in a 54‐year‐old Chinese woman, who presented with papular lesions over the face and neck. She had silicone breast augmentation surgery 4 years earlier. Skin biopsy revealed granulomatous inflammation and anti‐tuberculosis treatment was started empirically but stopped 2 months later owing to a poor response. A right supraclavicular lymph node was aspirated and revealed granulomatous inflammation. The CXR was normal initially but subsequently showed diffuse reticulonodular opacities and a small right‐sided pleural effusion. High‐resolution CT of the thorax showed mediastinal lymphadenopathy and diffuse perilymphatic nodular opacities consistent with sarcoidosis. Sputum mycobacterial culture was negative. Fibreoptic bronchoscopy showed no endobronchial lesion but the transbronchial biopsy showed granulomatous inflammation with no evidence of infection, malignancy or foreign body. Pulmonary function tests were normal except for impairment of transfer factor. One year later, most of the cutaneous lesions had healed spontaneously. The CXR showed partial improvement of the right pleural opacification but little change in the lung field. The features of sarcoidosis and its association with silicone are reviewed.

Abstract:Glutathione (GSH) exhibits antioxidant and integrated detoxification effects, providing protection to the liver. Nevertheless, in cases of liver damage or cancerization, the GSH content experiences significant fluctuations. Consequently, GSH can serve as an effective endogenous molecule for aiding the diagnosis and pathological researches of liver diseases. In this study, a GSH-responsive conductive hydrogel was prepared for the quantitative detection of GSH. Through measuring the high-frequency impedance change of the hydrogel during the reaction, the detection of GSH in a wide range (0.1-6 mM) is realized, and the sensor has high sensitivity and good anti-interference performance.

Abstract:Reduced glutathione (GSH) and the oxidized glutathione (GSSG) are well-known biomolecules in the main constituents of intracellular redox homeostasis system. A rapid, accurate measurement of cellular GSH and GSSG is quite needed in investigating important biochemical events. In this work, we present a novel and sensitive method to monitor intracellular GSH and GSSG concentrations by a portable surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) technique. We introduced a reduction-sensitive reaction-type Raman probe, 5,5'-dithiobis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid) (DTNB) to initiate GSH reduction, itself concomitantly converts to 2-nitro-5-thiobenzoic acid (TNB) to release a strong SERS signal. In a convenient way of inorganic salt MgSO4 induced aggregation of silver nanoparticles substrate, we easily implemented a good discrimination between DTNB and TNB, and a quantitative measurement of GSH and GSSG with a high sensitivity of 10 nM. This SERS method proved its feasible applicability in rapidly and sensitively monitoring GSH depletion behaviors of some notorious alkylating agents, i.e., sulfur mustard and nitrogen mustards in ex vitro or in vitro (cellular response). This SERS method may be very worthwhile in cellular detoxication event via the GSH approach and other GSH involved biomedical researches.

Abstract:Glutathione (GSH) is an important antioxidant biomarker with pivotal roles in multiple biological processes. Herein, a novel dual-emission ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe was developed for selective and sensitive GSH detection by exploiting competitive interactions with a silver-riboflavin (Ag-RF) complex. The nanoprobe consists simply of a mixed solution of Ag-RF complex displaying characteristic yellow emission at 525 nm and nitrogen-doped carbon dots exhibiting blue emission at 440 nm. Due to the strong affinity of GSH toward silver ions, the addition of GSH liberates riboflavin from the Ag-RF complex leading to quenching of adjacent nitrogen-doped carbon dots through fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). By ratiometrically measuring the fluorescence intensities at 525 and 440 nm (F 525 /F 440 ), GSH levels can be rapidly quantified without interference. This sensor gave excellent linearity (R 2 = 0.9986) over 0.05–70 μmol/L GSH with high sensitivity (limit of detection = 0.015 μmol/L). The sensor also provided accurate GSH analysis in spiked human serum samples (96–98.5 % recoveries), validating practical applicability. With advantages of simplicity, selectivity, and low sample volume requirements, this fluorescent nanoprobe holds great promise as a tool for real-time, in-field monitoring of GSH for basic research and clinical investigations.

Abstract:The daily consumption of foods abundant in Glutathione (GSH) can be supplemented to maintain the homeostasis of GSH in human health and alleviate pathologies resulting from abnormal GSH levels. The fluorescence-based visual determination of GSH has gradually attracted the attention of researchers due to its robust performance and versatile implementation. However, the current GSH visual strategy primarily relies on variations in fluorescence intensity at a single emission wavelength, which poses challenges for naked-eye and portable readout, as well as distorted signals caused by complex matrix effects in real samples. Herein, a ratiometric fluorescence sensor based on carbon dots (CDs) combined with an all-in-one 3D-printed smartphone-based device was successfully developed for low-cost, visual and rapid detection of GSH without the need for an external excitation light source. The ratiometric fluorescent materials were synthesized by conjugating blue carbon dots (B-CDs) with yellow carbon dots (Y-CDs) through the utilization of selected Cu2+ ions. The resulting mechanism demonstrated that the coordination interaction between Cu2+ and residual aromatic amino groups in Y-CDs (Y-CDs-Cu2+) contributed to a newly emitted peak at 580 nm, thereby inducing fluorescence resonance energy transfer from B-CDs to Y-CDs-Cu2+. A linear correlation was found between GSH concentrations and R/B values in the range of 10-100 μM, with a limit of detection observed at 4.8 μM. By utilizing this portable device in combination with RGB analysis, the quantitative detection of GSH can be achieved even in complex food matrices such as tomatoes and grapes. The universality of this all-in-one device was further validated by pre-spraying CDs onto a paper strip for visual measurement of GSH. This work offers a portable, visual, and accessible approach to evaluating food safety and nutrition, thereby demonstrating significant economic value and holding profound implications for human health.
A Novel Carbon Dot-Bromothymol Blue System for Ratiometric Colorimetric-Fluorometric Sensing of Glutathione in Urine: A Smartphone-Compatible Approach

Abstract:This study presents a novel dual-modal approach for glutathione (GSH) detection using blue and yellow dual-emission carbon dots (BY-CDs) and bromothymol blue (BTB) at pH 8.0. The method employs both colorimetric and fluorometric detection modes, offering a new perspective on GSH quantification. BTB's blue coloration induces selective fluorescence quenching of the CDs' 610 nm emission peak, with minimal effect on the 445 nm peak. Upon GSH addition, the quinonoid structure (blue color) of BTB transforms to its benzenoid form (yellow color). This transformation triggers fluorescence restoration at 610 nm and significant quenching at 445 nm, enabling ratiometric fluorescence analysis (F 610 /F 445 ). Concurrently, colorimetric detection is also ratiometric, based on measuring the ratio between the emerging yellow color peak (435 nm) and the decreasing blue color peak (618 nm) (A 435 /A 618 ). The state-of-the-art aspect of this detection method lies in the strategic choice of dual-emission CDs and a dye with distinct absorption spectra that closely match the emission spectra of the CDs. This unique combination allows for dual detection with opposite responses in the two detection modes, enhancing selectivity and reliability. The probe was thoroughly characterized, and its detection mechanism was elucidated using various spectroscopic techniques. The method shows excellent linearity, a broad detection range, and low detection limits for both fluorometry (0.02 – 10.0 μM, 5.88 nM) and colorimetry (1.0 – 35.0 μM, 301.25 nM). Additionally, a smartphone-based platform was developed for colorimetric GSH determination, enhancing the method's potential for on-site analysis. The assay's practicality was validated through successful application to human urine samples, yielding excellent recovery values (97.33% to 99.13%).

Abstract:Glutathione (GSH), a tripeptide that consists of cysteine, glutamate and glycine, is present in all mammalian tissues in the millimolar range. Besides having numerous cellular functions, GSH is an important antioxidant and is considered a valuable biomarker in evaluating oxidative stress. This paper provides a sensitive analytical method using HPLC‐ECD to quantify GSH in erythrocytes, validated using the ICH guidelines for Bioanalytical Method Validation. The sample preparation was optimised using centrifugal filtration and a hypotonic phosphate buffer for extracting GSH from erythrocytes. HPLC‐ECD parameters were adjusted to allow a fast, reversed phase, isocratic separation in 10 min. The detector response was linear between 0.3 and 9.5 μg/mL with a satisfactory regression coefficient and a LOQ of 0.11 μg/mL. Intra‐ and inter‐day repeatability ranged between 1.10% and 8.57% with recoveries ranging from 94.3% to 106.0%. Dilution integrity, benchtop, freeze–thaw and long‐term stability were investigated. Samples were stable for up to 6 months at −80°C. This method has a good linear response and is repeatable, precise and accurate. It minimises GSH auto‐oxidation using a centrifugal filter during sample preparation, instead of acidification. Therefore, this analytical method is suitable for quantifying GSH in erythrocytes as a marker of oxidative stress.

Abstract:A sensitive dual-signal intrinsic self-calibration electrochemical sensor for glutathione (GSH) was developed based on the in situ electrodeposited silver nanoparticles modified nickel and iron contained Prussian Blue analog (Ag/NiFe PBA). Two different oxidation peaks ascribed to species of Ag and Fe with wide peak-to-peak potential can be found on the Ag/NiFe PBA modified electrode. In the presence of chloride ions, owing to the solid-state electrochemistry of silver chloride (AgCl), a sharp characteristic peak appeared with largely enhanced current intensity. After adding GSH, sensitive decline in the peak current of AgCl can be found for the specific interaction of Ag-GSH accompany with the “crowding-out effect”, while the peak current of NiFe PBA remains unchanged. Using the ratio of the peak currents (I AgCl/I Fe) as the signal output, Ag/NiFe PBA modified electrode showed wide linear range of 0.5 nM-5 μM for the quantitative of GSH with an extremely low detection limit of 0.12 nM, showing superior performance compared with previous electrochemical methods. The sensor can be utilized for the determination of GSH in various vegetable and serum samples. The ultrasensitive solid-state electrochemistry of AgCl promoted signal amplification strategy as well as the specific recognition and competitive reaction increasing the selectivity make the ratiometric sensor great potential in bioanalysis, food analysis and early diagnosis of cancer in clinics.

Abstract:Glutathione (GSH) as a biothiol is an essential peptide related to various diseases. Although multiple strategies for biothiols detection have been developed, there is increasing demand for sensors that can differentiate GSH from cysteine (Cys) and homocysteine (Hcy), owing to the similar structures and thiol groups in these amino acids. Herein, we report a novel Eu3+/LAPONITE (Lap)-based organic/inorganic hybrid material for selective detection of GSH via an "off-on" process. The fluorescence of Eu(DPA)3@Lap-Tris can be quenched by Cu2+ through photoinduced electron transfer (PET). The addition of GSH into the Eu(DPA)3@Lap-Tris/Cu2+ system induces the removal of Cu2+ from Eu(DPA)3@Lap-Tris and blocks PET, resulting in the recovery of fluorescence. This proposed assay demonstrates higher selectivity toward GSH than Cys and Hcy, and showed a detection limit of 162 nM within a linear range of 0.5-30 μM. Unlike other GSH selective sensors, this platform could be formed into a hydrogel while its sensitivity was maintained. The sensitive response to GSH in serum samples makes this platform an efficient tool for biological applications because of its ease of preparation, high selectivity, good biocompatibility, and low toxicity.

Abstract:Herein, a new, direct paper-based fluorimetric method is described for the quantitative determination of glutathione (GSH) molecules in nutritional supplements. Briefly, the proposed analytical method is based on the fluorescence emission resulting from the direct and selective chemical reaction of GSH molecules with the derivatization reagent that is o-phthalaldehyde (OPA) in acidic conditions at room temperature. The intensity of the emitted fluorescence on the surface of the analytical paper devices after irradiation with a lamp at 365 nm is proportional to the concentration of GSH and is measured using a smartphone as the detector. This methodology, which is suitable for measurements in laboratories with limited resources, does not require specialized instrumentation or trained personnel. The protocol governing the proposed method is simple and easily applicable. Essentially, the chemical analyst should adjust the value of pH on the surface of the paper by adding a minimal amount of buffer solution; then, after adding a few microliters of the derivatization reagent, wait for the surface of the paper to dry and, finally, add the analyte. Subsequently, the irradiation of the sensor and the measurement of the emitted fluorescence can be recorded with a mobile phone. In the present study, several parameters affecting the chemical reaction and the emitted fluorescence were optimized, the effect of interfering compounds that may be present in dietary supplements was examined, and the stability of these paper sensors under different storage conditions was evaluated. Additionally, the chemical stability of these paper devices in various maintenance conditions was studied, with satisfactory results. The detection limit calculated as 3.3 S/N was 20.5 μmol L−1, while the precision of the method was satisfactory, ranging from 3.1% (intra-day) to 7.3% (inter-day). Finally, the method was successfully applied to three different samples of dietary supplements.

Abstract:The development of dual-emission ratiometric fluorescent probes with aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) overcomes the limitations of gold nanocluster (Au NC)-based probes, particularly their weak intrinsic fluorescence, in real-world applications. These AIEE probes also exhibit superior detection limits and enhanced sensitivity. A novel combination for the reliable fluorometric detection of glutathione (GSH) was proposed, utilizing aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) facilitated by electrostatic interaction and spatial confinement. The probe consists of a ratiometric combination of negatively charged α-lipoic acid-modified Au NCs (LA@Au NCs) and positively charged silicon nanoparticles (SiNPs). The addition of SiNPs causes aggregation of LA@Au NCs, enhancing the fluorescence of LA@Au NCs through the AIE effect under electrostatic interaction and spatial confinement. The addition of Cu 2+ quenched the emission of LA@Au NCs as a result of charge transfer. The fluorescence emissions of LA@Au NCs were restored upon the addition of GSH due to the interaction between GSH and Cu 2+ . Simultaneously, the emission signal of SiNPs remains unchanged, serving as an internal reference signal during GSH measurement. It was found that the fluorescence ratio ( F 680 / F 465 ) is directly proportional to the concentration of GSH in the range of 0.05–100 μM, with a detection limit of 1.7 nM (S/N = 3). The proposed system was applied to detect GSH in real samples, including dietary supplements, human serum, and saliva samples. This work opens new avenues for constructing novel sensors based on AIEE for detecting biomolecules.

Abstract:Chromatographic determination of glutathione disulfide (GSSG) without any preliminary reduction has been presented using GSSG derivatization by p-hydroxymercuribenzoate (pHMB) in strong alkaline medium followed by the determination of GS-pHMB complex by reversed phase chromatography coupled to chemical vapour generation and atomic fluorescence detector (RPC-CVGAFS). A detection limit of 35 nM for GSSG (corresponding to 1.8 pmol) detected as GS-pHMB species was achieved based on a signal-to-noise ratio of 3 in buffer and in blood. The proposed method was applied to the determination of GSSG in whole blood and validated by the classical determination of GSSG by derivatization after reduction with dithiothreitol (DTT).

Abstract:Glutathione (GSH) is indispensable for maintaining redox homeostasis in biological fluids and serves as a key component in cellular defense mechanisms. Accurate assessment of GSH relative to its oxidized counterpart, glutathione disulfide (GSSG), is critical for the early diagnosis and understanding of conditions related to oxidative stress. Despite existing methods for their quantification, the label-free and simultaneous measurement of GSH and GSSG in biological fluid presents significant challenges. Herein, we report the use of an alpha-hederin (Ah) nanopore for the direct measurement of the GSH:GSSG ratio in simulated biological fluid, containing fetal bovine serum (FBS). This system hinges on detecting characteristic relative ion blockades (ΔI/Io) as GSH and GSSG molecules pass through the Ah nanopore under an applied electric field. The distinct current blockage signals derived from the translocation of GSH and GSSG enabled us to determine the molar ratio of GSH and its oxidized form. Notably, the interactions between the hydroxyl groups of the sugar moiety lining the nanopore's inner surface and the sulfhydryl group of GSH significantly influence the translocation dynamics, resulting in a longer translocation time for GSH compared to GSSG. The Ah nanopore technology proposed in this study offers a promising approach for real-time, single molecule-level monitoring of glutathione redox status in biological fluids, eliminating the need for labeling or extensive sample preparation.

Abstract:A COMMONLY held belief about hypnosis £\_ is that under trance a person cannot be made to commit crimes or be forced to do anything which he would not do under normal circumstances or which would violate his ethical sense. This belief is generally held both by laymen and professional psychologists, psychiatrists, and physicians. Rowland (3) conducted a series of experiments at Baylor which indicated that this was not the case and that individuals could be made to perform acts that endangered their lives. Wells (4), at Syracuse University, has also performed studies in which crime compulsions were induced and subjects made to steal objects under hypnotic trance. While Estabrooks (2) also is quite insistent that criminal behavior can be suggested, Erickson (i), on the other hand, has carefully performed a group of studies in which he arrives at the conclusion that crime compulsions cannot be induced. The critics of the experiments conducted by Wells, Rowland, and Estabrooks base their arguments on two points: First, that small cues inevitably inform the subject that he will be protected and will not really commit murder, suicide, or robbery; consequently, he goes through the suggested behavior secure in the belief that it is only an act, not the real thing, and that he is not really committing a crime. Secondly, they insist that if the individual actually carried out a crime compulsion it was because he had latent criminal tendencies in his nature; so he was not actually violating his true principles. They also point out the studies pf Erickson and others who have not been able to induce crime compulsions. To these, Estabrooks (2, p. 169) suggests that operatpr-attitudc is extremely important and implies that Erickson indirectly intimated to his subjects that 256 he did not really expect them to carry out the suggested crimes. In this paper the writer wishes to report a series of experiments which might throw further light on this problem. The controls were certainly not as rigid as one would desire to establish firmly that criminal compulsions are possible, yet the combined weight of evidence from these studies definitely favors that contention.
Sensitive colorimetric detection of glutathione in human serum based on peroxidase-like activity of chitosan-stabilized gold nanoparticles

Abstract:A colorimetric sensor for the rapid and sensitive detection of GSH was developed. The hydrothermal method was utilized to synthesize chitosan-stabilized gold nanoparticles (CS-AuNPs). The synthesized CS-AuNPs were characterized by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffractograms (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The CS-AuNPs are well-dispersed and possess a spherical shape with an average particle size of 10.05 ± 2.26 nm in aqueous solution. They show an intrinsic peroxidase-like activity, which could efficiently catalyze the decomposition of H2O2 to produce •OH radicals. These radicals then oxidized 3, 3´, 5, 5´-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB), resulting in the formation of the blue oxidized product oxTMB, observed a visible color change (from colorless to blue), and oxTMB had an obvious absorption peak at 652 nm. The presence of GSH could inhibit the peroxidase-like activity of CS-AuNPs, thereby reducing the formation of oxTMB. The solution's blue hue underwent a reduction in absorption intensity. Based on this fact, a novel and sensitive colorimetric sensor for detection of GSH was constructed. Under optimal conditions, the results of detection had an excellent linear relationship between the concentration of GSH and ∆A within the range 0.5 ~ 50.0 × 10-6 mol/L. The limit of detection (LOD) for GSH was 2.10 × 10-7 mol/L, which was much lower than those in most previous works. Furthermore, for detection in real human serum samples, the recoveries of GSH and the relative standard deviations (RSD) in the serum were in the range 98.40 ~ 103.32% and 1.85 ~ 3.54%, respectively. Thus, this visual colorimetric method has good precision and can be used for GSH detection in practical applications, promising in the fields of bioanalysis and illness diagnostics.
A nanoprobe for ratiometric imaging of glutathione in living cells based on the use of a nanocomposite prepared from dual-emission carbon dots and manganese dioxide nanosheets

Abstract:A ratiometric fluorescence assay for glutathione (GSH) was developed. The novel assay is based on a nanoprobe composed of manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO2 NS) and dual-emission carbon dots (de-CDs) with intrinsic GSH-response property. After construction of the nanoprobe, two emission peaks of de-CDs were suppressed to varying degrees by MnO2 NS. The suppression was relieved and the two emission peaks recovered proportionally when MnO2 NS was decomposed by GSH, thus realizing the ratiometric assay for micromolar GSH. The intrinsic responsiveness of de-CDs to millimolar GSH broadens the analytical range of the nanoprobe. An appropriate precursor, calcon-carboxylic acid, was screened out to synthesize de-CDs via one-step hydrothermal treatment. The de-CD@MnO2 NS nanoprobe can measure GSH concentrations through the fluorescence intensity ratio between 435 and 516 nm excited at 365 nm. The range of response was from 1 μM to 10 mM and the detection limit reached 0.6 μM (3σ criterion). Benefiting from its good biocompatibility, the proposed nanoprobe has excellent applicability for intracellular GSH imaging.

Abstract:Glutathione (GSH) is one of the most common thiol-containing molecules discovered in biological systems, and it plays an important role in many cellular functions, where changes in physiological glutathione levels contribute to the progress of a variety of diseases. Molecular imaging employing fluorescent probes is thought to be a sensitive technique for online fluorescence detection of GSH. Although various molecular probes for (intracellular) GSH sensing have been reported, some aspects remain unanswered, such as quantitative intracellular analysis, dynamic monitoring, and compatibility with biological environment. Some of these drawbacks can be overcome by sensors based on nanostructured materials, that have attracted considerable attention owing to their exceptional properties, including a large surface area, heightened electro-catalytic activity, and robust mechanical resilience, for which they have become integral components in the development of highly sensitive chemo- and biosensors. Additionally, engineered nanomaterials have demonstrated significant promise in enhancing the precision of disease diagnosis and refining treatment specificity. The aim of this review is to investigate recent advancements in fabricated nanomaterials tailored for detecting GSH. Specifically, it examines various material categories, encompassing carbon, polymeric, quantum dots (QDs), covalent organic frameworks (COFs), metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), metal-based, and silicon-based nanomaterials, applied in the fabrication of chemo- and biosensors. The fabrication of nano-biosensors, mechanisms, and methodologies employed for GSH detection utilizing these fabricated nanomaterials will also be elucidated. Remarkably, there is a noticeable absence of existing reviews specifically dedicated to the nanomaterials for GSH detection since they are not comprehensive in the case of nano-fabrication, mechanisms and methodologies of detection, as well as applications in various biological environments. This research gap presents an opportune moment to thoroughly assess the potential of nanomaterial-based approaches in advancing GSH detection methodologies.

Abstract:Glutathione (GSH) is a crucial non-protein thiol and an indispensable endogenous antioxidant. The aberrant expression of GSH in plasma and cytosol is closely related to numerous diseases, including cancer. Therefore, establishing a sensitive method for analyzing GSH has important application value for biomedical research and clinical medical detection. Herein, A method for the rapid and simple detection of GSH was proposed, which is based on an anti-etching mechanism by utilizing gold nanotetrapods (Au NTPs) and manganese dioxide nanosheets (MnO 2 NSs). In the absence of GSH, Au NTPs solution can cause a distinct color change from gray-green to red through the etching effect of MnO 2 NSs. However, in the presence of GSH, the redox reaction between GSH and MnO 2 NSs inhibits the etching of Au NTPs by MnO 2 NSs, and Au NTPs solution maintains persistent gray-green color. The colorimetric probe exhibited excellent selectivity for GSH. The limits of detection for GSH were 43.5 nM (UV–vis spectrum) and 0.25 μM (naked eyes). The sensing technique exhibited excellent linearity between wavelength shift and GSH concentration within the range of 0.25 μM–1.5 μM. The outcomes of GSH detection in actual biological samples demonstrate that this probe has the potential to be applied to GSH detection in intricate biological samples.
