Abstract:Tinnitus is a meaningless sound signal perceived by the patients in the absence of auditory stimuli. Due to the complex etiology and unclear mechanism, specific therapies for tinnitus are still in the exploratory stage. In recent years, personalized and customized music therapy has been proposed as an effective method for tinnitus treatment. The aim of this study was to explore the efficacy of customized therapy with a well-designed follow-up system in the treatment of tinnitus through a large sample one arm study and to identify the relevant factors affecting the treatment outcome.

Abstract:Neurofeedback (NFB) is a relatively novel approach to the treatment of tinnitus, and prior studies have demonstrated that the increases in alpha activity rather than reduced delta power seem to drive these NFB-related improvements in tinnitus symptoms. The present study was therefore designed to explore whether the implementation of an alpha training protocol with a portable neurofeedback apparatus would achieve improvements in tinnitus patient symptoms. In this study, 38 tinnitus patients underwent NFB training while 18 were enrolled in a control group. The study was single-blinded such that only participants were not aware of their group assignments. Those in the NFB group underwent 15 NFB training sessions over 5 weeks, in addition to pre- and posttraining tests including the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Tinnitus Handicap Questionnaire (THQ), visual analog scales (VAS), electroencephalography (EEG), and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Our result find that when the THI, THQ, and VAS scores of patients in the two groups were assessed after a 5-week training period, these scores were unchanged in control patients whereas they had significantly improved in the NFB group patients. EEG analyses revealed that the alpha band was increased in the occipital lobe following NFB treatment, while fMRI indicated an increase in regional homogeneity (ReHo) in the right frontal lobe of patients in the NFB group after treatment that was negatively correlated with THI and VAS scores. The results of this analysis indicate that alpha NFB training can be effectively used to reduce tinnitus-related distress and sound perception in patients.
The Significance of Extended High-Frequency Audiometry in Tinnitus Patients with Normal Hearing As Evaluated Via Conventional Pure Tone Audiometry

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:This study was designed to determine whether extended high-frequency audiometry was capable of better differentiating between participants with normal hearing who did or did not have subjective tinnitus.METHODS:A total of 96 study participants were enrolled: 36 patients with unilateral tinnitus, 28 patients with bilateral tinnitus and 32 volunteers as controls. All 96 participants exhibited normal audiometry findings and hearing thresholds. Extended high-frequency audiometry was used to evaluate these patients.RESULTS:There were differences between the extended high-frequency hearing thresholds of affected and unaffected ears in those with unilateral tinnitus, and in the 20-29-year-old bilateral tinnitus group, at 11.2, 12.5 and 14 kHz. Unilateral tinnitus subgroups had higher extended high-frequency hearing thresholds than those in control subjects, at all extended high frequencies.CONCLUSION:Extended high-frequency audiometry can offer additional information regarding the hearing status of patients with tinnitus who exhibit normal pure tone thresholds when analysed via conventional hearing thresholds.

Abstract:Sound therapy is a clinically common method of tinnitus management. Various forms of sound therapy have been developed, but there are controversies regarding the selection criteria and the efficacy of different forms of sound therapy in the clinic. Our goal was to review the types and forms of sound therapy and our understanding of how the different characteristics of tinnitus patients influence their curative effects so as to provide a reference for personalized choice of tinnitus sound therapy.Using an established methodological framework, a search of six databases including PubMed identified 43 records that met our inclusion criteria. The search strategy used the following key words: tinnitus AND (acoustic OR sound OR music) AND (treatment OR therapy OR management OR intervention OR measure).There are various forms of sound therapy, and most of them show positive therapeutic effects. The effect of customized sound therapy is generally better than that of non-customized sound therapy, and patients with more severe initial tinnitus respond better to sound therapy.Sound therapy can effectively suppress tinnitus, at least in some patients. However, there is a lack of randomized controlled trials to identify effective management strategies. Further studies are needed to identify the most effective form of sound therapy for individualized therapy, and large, multicenter, long-term follow-up studies are still needed in order to develop more effective and targeted sound-therapy protocols. In addition, it is necessary to analyze the characteristics of individual tinnitus patients and to unify the assessment criteria of tinnitus.

Abstract:This study investigates a novel multimodal treatment for chronic tinnitus, a condition that significantly affects quality of life, by combining personalized sound therapy with both low- and high-frequency electromagnetic wave stimulation. Conducted at Tor Vergata University Hospital in Rome, the research involved 55 patients and employed a portable medical device for therapy delivery. Treatment effectiveness was measured through the Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI), Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Hyperacusis Questionnaire (HQ), and Short Form-36 Health Survey (SF-36), encompassing initial sound therapy and subsequent multimodal treatment phases. Remarkably, 73% of participants experienced notable improvements in TFI scores, with 39% reporting a significant enhancement of 13 points or more. This improvement was mirrored in secondary outcomes like THI, VAS, and HQ scores, along with certain SF-36 domains, indicating enhanced life quality and reduced tinnitus distress. The study underscored high compliance and no adverse effects, suggesting the combined therapy's promising potential in chronic tinnitus management. The findings advocate for further research to discern the distinct contributions of each treatment modality, positing that this innovative approach could ameliorate tinnitus symptoms and improve patient well-being, confirming its safety and efficacy.

Abstract:Introduction Chronic subjective tinnitus has become an increasingly serious hazard that affects the health-related quality of life for millions of people. Due to the lack of curative treatment strategies, this study aims to introduce a novel acoustic therapy named the modified tinnitus relieving sound (MTRS) for tinnitus and to evaluate the efficacy of MTRS in comparison with unmodified music (UM) which served as a control. Methods and analysis A randomized, double-blinded, controlled, clinical trial will be carried out. Sixty-eight patients with subjective tinnitus will be recruited and randomly allocated into two groups in 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome is Tinnitus Handicapped Inventory (THI); the secondary outcomes are the Hospital Anxiety and Distress Scale (HADS; HADS subscales for Anxiety (HADS-A) and Depression (HADS-D)), Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), the visual analog scale (VAS) for tinnitus, and tinnitus loudness matched by sensation level (SL). Assessment will be performed at baseline and at 1, 3, 9, and 12 months post-randomization. The sound stimulus will be persistent until 9 months after randomization, and be interdictory in the last three months. Data collected during the intervention process will be analyzed and compared to baseline. Ethics and dissemination This trial received ethical approval from the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of Eye & ENT Hospital of Fudan University (No. 2017048). The study results will be disseminated via academic journals and conferences. Efficacy of Amplification for Tinnitus Relief in People With Mild Hearing Loss

Abstract:Purpose: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of amplification with hearing aids for people with chronic subjective tinnitus and mild hearing loss. Method: In this randomized, controlled, three-arm trial, 38 subjects with a primary complaint of tinnitus were randomly assigned to one of the three treatment groups. Twelve subjects received informational counselling (IC) only, 13 received IC with hearing aid fitting, and 13 subjects received IC with individualized music stimulation for 12 months. The primary efficacy analysis in tinnitus severity was based on the change from baseline to 12 months after the 1st day of the intervention. Secondary outcome measures included tinnitus impact, psychological and mental health effects, subjective ratings, and psychoacoustically measured tinnitus loudness. Results: A statistically significant treatment difference among the three groups in the Chinese Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI-CH) total score at the predefined end point in Month 12 was observed ( F = 3.34, p = .04, partial η 2 = .16). Reductions in the TFI-CH scores in both the hearing aid and the customized music group were more prominent than in the IC-only group. Only the hearing aid group showed a significantly greater treatment effect than the IC-only group. Conclusion: Results from this study support that a combination of hearing aid use and IC can help improve tinnitus in people with mild hearing loss. Abstract:Objective: To study the psychoacoustic and audiological characteristics of patients with chronic subjective tinnitus and provide basis for the personalized diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus through a single tinnitus multielement integration sound therapy (T-MIST) and analysis of efficacy preliminarily. Methods: 145 patients with tinnitus were assessed by systematic medical history collection, professional examination of otolaryngology, audiology examination, full precision test (FPT), residual inhibition test (RIT), tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) and visual analog scale (VAS) annoyance. The correlation among factors was performed. Results: The frequency of tinnitus was correlated with the frequency of maximum hearing loss (P < 0.05). The loudness of tinnitus was correlated with the loudness of maximum hearing loss (P < 0.05). In this study, T-MIST was used to treat tinnitus. After treatment, tinnitus alleviated VAS annoyance (P < 0.05). The results of RIT were correlated with the effect of T-MIST (P < 0.05). Conclusion: There was a correlation between tinnitus and hearing loss. The RIT may indicate the effectiveness of acoustic therapy in patients. The FPT can find the hidden hearing loss without display on routine pure tone audiometry, so as to provide a clinical reference for the detection of early hearing loss in tinnitus patients.
Non-invasive treatments improve patient outcomes in chronic tinnitus: a systematic review and network meta-analysis

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the relative effectiveness of various Non-Invasive Treatment Techniques (NITs) in chronic tinnitus management. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases from the time of data construction to December 31, 2022. According to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, NITs were evaluated, including Aacceptance and commitment therapy (A), Cognitive behavioral therapy (C), Sound therapy (S), Transcranial magnetic stimulation (T), Electrical stimulation therapy (E), Virtual reality therapy (V), tinnitus Retraining therapy (R), general psychotherapy (D), and Placebo (P). The outcome indicators included the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Tinnitus Questionnaire (TQ), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-anxiety-Depression (HADS-D), Insomnia Severity Index (ISI), Visual Analogue Scales-Loudness (VAS-L), and Visual Analogue Scales-Distress (VAS-D). Statistical analysis was performed using Stata 14.0 for NMA. Results: This systematic review and meta-analysis included 22 randomized controlled trials comprising 2,354 patients. The treatment effects varied on each scale. For THI, S (86.9%) was the most effective, whereas P (6.5%) was the worst. For TQ, C (89.5%) was the most effective, whereas D (25.4%) was the worst. For HADS-D, A (82.4%) was the most effective, whereas D (9.47%) was the worst. For ISI, A (83.2%) was the most effective, whereas R (20.6%) was the worst. For VAS-L, S (73.5%) was the most effective, whereas E (18.9%) was the worst. For VAS-D, C (84.7%) was the most effective, whereas P (18.1%) was the worst. Conclusions: The combination of acoustics and cognitive behavioral therapy may be an effectively treat patients with chronic tinnitus. Level of evidence: How common is the problem? Level 2. Small-Group Counseling in a Modified Tinnitus Retraining Therapy for Chronic Tinnitus

Abstract:OBJECTIVES: The authors have treated chronic tinnitus patients using a combination of a simplified tinnitus retraining therapy (TRT) and medications, which we called modified TRT. In this clinical setting, we have attempted small-group counseling to find a time-effective equivalent of individual counseling. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of small-group counseling by comparing the treatment outcomes between individual and small-group counseling.METHODS: The patients who had distressing chronic tinnitus with normal hearing or mild hearing loss were included. The subjects were placed into the small-group (group 1:4) or the individual (group 1:1) counseling group, and underwent a modified TRT composed of a single session of directive counseling and ambient sound stimulation. In addition, alprazolam (0.25 mg) and ginkgo biloba extract (80 mg) were administered orally to the subjects for 3 months. The 3- and 6- month outcomes were assessed using the follow-up rates and tinnitus severity scores: awareness, tinnitus handicap inventory (THI), loudness, annoyance, and effect on life. The treatment responses were classified as improvement, no changes, and worsening.RESULTS: Of the total 149 patients (77 in group 1:1; 72 in group 1:4), 104 patients completed the protocol at 3 months, and 55 patients at 6 months. The follow-up rates were similar in both groups. Over the period of 6 months, all scores declined significantly except the loudness score at 3 months in both groups. Treatment responses showed no between-group differences. The success rate based on THI was 70% in group 1:1, and 64% in group 1:4 at 6 months.CONCLUSION: The small-group counseling of our modified TRT was comparable to the individual counseling for tinnitus relief. We suggest that this protocol can be implemented effectively in any crowded otolaryngology clinics.

Curative effect of sound therapy on subjective tinnitus with different frequency

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics of subjective tinnitus and the curative effect of sound therapy on subjective tinnitus with different frequency.Methods:A total of 104 patients with subjective tinnitus (disease lasting for more than 3 months or not reponsive to drug treatment for more than 3 months) were recruited for the study.Each patient received questionaire,including detailed medical historty,completed questionnaires (THI,PSQI,PHQ-9 and GAD-7),special examination,audiological examination,psychoacoustic characteristics of tinnitus inspection and sound therapy.Results:50 cases were male (48.08％) and 54 cases female (51.92％).The age distribution of patients with subjective tinnitus was as follows:＜ 20 years old 1 cases (0.96％),20-29 years old 10 cases(9.62％),30-39 years old 15 cases(14.42％),40-49 years old 23 cases (22.11％),50-59 years old 25 cases(24.04％),60-69 years old 18 cases(17.31％),70-79 years old 12 cases (11.54％).Most of the case were middle-aged (40 to 59 years old),accounting for 46.15％.There was no significant difference in the distribution of male and female between different age groups (P ＞ 0.05).3.85 ％ of the patients had serious sleep disorder,58.65％ of the patients had different degrees of depression and 46.15％ of the patients had different degrees of anxiety.The distribution of different frequency of tinnitus was as follows:low frequency (＜ 1 kHz) 33 cases(31.73％),intermediate frequency (1 kHz-4 kHz) 17 cases(16.35％),high frequency (≥4 kHz) 54 cases(51.92％).The total effective rate of sound therapy was 96.15％ in 104 patients with subjective tinnitus.The ffective rate for subjective tinnitus with low frequency was 96.97％,that with intermediate frequency 94.12％ and that with high frequency 96.30％.There was no statistical significance in the curative effect of the three groups of subjective tinnitus (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusion:There was a roughly equal proporition of male and female patients with subjective tinnitus.There was a correlation between tinnitus and age,namely a high possibility of tinnitus was found in middle-aged people.Non auditory problems were common in patients with tinnitus.High frequency tinnitus was the most common in subjective tinnitus,secondly low frequency tinnitus,lastly intermediate frequency.Sound therapy can be applied to subjective tinnitus with different frequency.
An Automatic Method to Develop Music With Music Segment and Long Short Term Memory for Tinnitus Music Therapy

Abstract:Tinnitus is a perception of sound when no external sound is present. It has seriously affected patients' life. Music is an option to relieve tinnitus in clinic, as it can bring enjoyment to listeners. However, existing music used in tinnitus therapies has limited duration, it is usually repetitively played during the long-term treatment and may not be helpful for relaxation. Moreover, individualized preferences of patients are ignored in most cases. Both of them may hinder tinnitus relief. Although existing methods can synthesize specific music that has unlimited duration and is not repetitively played, the synthesized music has defects with pitch mutations and long pitch durations. Moreover, characteristics of these synthesized music have not been confirmed by tinnitus patients. Therefore, this study presents an automatic method to develop the specific music based on music segments from existing music and long short term memory (LSTM). Numerical results indicate that specific music developed in this study not only retains characteristics of original music, but also overcome the defects above. Besides, a total of 30 tinnitus patients and 10 tinnitus-free volunteers participated the auditory experiment. Auditory results are consistent with numerical results and also suggest that tinnitus patients can perceive feelings that are conducive to tinnitus relief after listening preferred music. Therefore, the developed music presents a possible complement to tinnitus treatment in clinic.

Abstract:BACKGROUND:Chronic subjective tinnitus poses significant challenges in clinical practice, and it is usually associated with hearing impairment, particularly with high-frequency sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Patients suffering from tinnitus with SNHL experience one of the most severe sensory disabilities, and this has devastating effects on their quality of life. Nowadays, mild to moderate SNHL can be managed with a properly fitted hearing aid (HA) that provides sound amplification, and several studies suggest that HAs may also benefit those with tinnitus. However, inadequate attention has been paid by medical personnel to the impact of HA use in residual hearing protection for patients with tinnitus and coexisting SNHL, and existing evidence is still at a preliminary stage. This study aims to identify and evaluate the efficacy of the use of HAs in both sound perception and residual hearing preservation among patients with tinnitus and coexisting SNHL.METHODS AND DESIGN:The present study is a prospective, single-center, outcome assessor and data analyst-blinded, randomized, controlled trial. Eligible participants will be recruited and randomly allocated into the HA intervention group and the waiting list control group at a ratio of 1:1. The primary outcome is to evaluate the severity of tinnitus using the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory as a continuous variable at 6 months from randomization. Secondary outcome measures include changes in hearing status and mental states. The trial will last 6 months, with follow-up visits at 3 months and 6 months.DISCUSSION:This will be the first randomized, controlled trial to identify and evaluate HAs' efficacy on residual hearing preservation among tinnitus patients with coexisting high-frequency SNHL in China. We are aiming for novelty and generalizability, and strengths of this study are that it will examine the effectiveness of HA in patients with tinnitus and hearing impairment and will further explore the residual hearing protection provided by HA treatment in the tinnitus group.TRIAL REGISTRATION:ClinicalTrials.gov NCT05343026. Abstract:Ethylene oxide (EtO) is a reactive epoxide and potent biocide. It is used widely in gas sterilization of hospital equipment. An estimated 75,000 health care workers in the United States have potential exposure. EtO binds covalently to deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and has been shown in 13 species to cause point mutations. Apparently, as a consequence of its alkylating ability, EtO exposure can result in chromosomal damage. In monkeys EtO exposure produces increased frequencies of sister chromatid exchanges (SCEs) and chromosomal aberrations. In man, five cytogenetic studies have shown dose-related increased frequencies of either SCE or chromosomal aberrations; in one study SCEs developed after regular exposures lasting less than five minutes per day. EtO is a reproductive toxin. In adult male rats, exposure produces decreased fertility, increased fetal deaths, and heritable chromosomal translocations. In pregnant female rats and rabbits, exposure causes increased fetal losses, and in one study in pregnant mice exposure was associated with increased numbers of malformed fetuses. In male monkeys EtO causes dose-related reductions in sperm count and sperm motility. In pregnant women, one study suggests that brief occupational exposure twice daily in concentrations of 20 ppm or above was associated with increased spontaneous abortions. EtO is carcinogenic to animals. In rats it causes dose-related increases in mononuclear cell leukemias, peritoneal mesotheliomas, and cerebral gliomas. In man, exposure has been associated in two epidemiologic studies with increased leukemias: 3 leukemias observed versus 0.2 expected in one study, and 2 observed versus 0.14 expected in the other; two additional small studies of limited power found no excess leukemias. Quantitative risk assessment indicates that from 634 to 1,093 excess deaths from cancer will occur per 10,000 workers exposed to EtO at 50 ppm over a working lifetime, and that 12 to 23 excess cancer deaths will occur per 10,000 workers exposed at 1 ppm. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) recommends that EtO be regarded as a potential human carcinogen. NIOSH has recommended that eight-hour time-weighted average exposure to EtO be less than 0.1 ppm and that short-term peak exposure not exceed 5 ppm for more than ten minutes per working day.
The Long-Term Effect of Modulated Acoustic Stimulation on Alteration in EEG Brain Network of Chronic Tinnitus Patients: An Exploratory Study

Abstract:Acoustic stimulation is one of the most influential techniques for distressing tinnitus, while how it functions to reverse neural changes associated with tinnitus remains undisclosed. In this study, our objective is to investigate alterations in brain networks to shed light on the enigma of acoustic intervention for tinnitus. We designed a 75-day long-term acoustic intervention experiment, during which chronic tinnitus patients received daily modulated acoustic stimulation with each session lasting 15 days. Every 15 days, professional tinnitus assessments were conducted, collecting both electroencephalogram (EEG) and tinnitus handicap inventory (THI) data from the patients. Thereafter, we investigated the changes in EEG network organizations during continuous acoustic stimulation and their progressive evolution throughout long-term therapy, alongside exploring the associations between the evolving changes of the network alterations and THI. Our current study findings reveal reorganization in alpha/beta long-range frontal-parietal-occipital connections as well as local frontal and parietal-occipital regions induced by acoustic stimulation. Furthermore, we observed a decrease in modulation effects as therapy sessions progressed. These alterations in brain networks reflect the reversal of tinnitus-related neural activities, particularly distress and perception; thus contributing to tinnitus rehabilitation through long-term modulation effects. This study provides unique insights into how long-term acoustic intervention affects the network organizations of tinnitus patients and deepens our understanding of the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying tinnitus rehabilitation.

Multivariate Analysis of Psychoacoustic and Clinical Characteristics in Patients with Idiopathic Tinnitus

Abstract:Objective To study the psychoacoustic and clinical characteristics of idiopathic tinnitus and their correla tions in order to improve clinic therapy for tinnitus. Method Systematic otorhinolaryngologic examination, audiometric test ing, tinnitus evaluation were performed on 128 patients (159 ears) with idiopathic tinnitus. Tinnitus evaluation included tin nitus pitch and loudness assessments and the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI). Variables including gender, age, side of tinnitus, tinnitus duration and persistency, hearing loss, audiometric configuration, tinnitus pitch, loudness, Feldmann mask ing curves, residual inhibition and THI score were quantified and their correlations analyzed by logistic regression models. Result Of the 159 ears, tinnitus was of high pitch in 102 ears (64.15%) and of mid or low pitch in 57 ears (35.85%), and its loudness was high in 53 ears (33.33%), moderate in 67 ears (42.14%) and soft in 39 ears (24.53%). Feldmann masking curves were dominated by convergent (32 ears, 20.13%), congruent (46 ears, 28.93%) and separate (62 ears, 38.99%) types.Residual inhibition was positive in 47 ears (33.57%), partially positive in 59 ears (42.14%) and negative in 34 ears (24.29%). THI scores indicated slight (67 ears, 42.14%) or mild (56 ears, 35.22%) tinnitus severity in most patients. Logis tic regression showed correlation between tinnitus pitch and gender (χ 2 =12.588, P<0.001) and tinnitus persistency (χ 2 = 3.866, P=0.049). Tinnitus loudness was correlated to hearing loss (χ 2 =50.006, P<0.001), audiometric configuration (χ 2 = 63.187, P<0.001) and tinnitus pitch (χ 2 =14.757,P=0.001). Feldmann masking curve was chiefly influenced by audiomet ric configuration (χ 2 =21.798, P=0.001). The χ 2 test showed that residual inhibition was correlated to THI scores (χ 2 =16.284, P=0.012), but not to the rest 10 items. Conclusion Certain psychoacoustic and clinical characteristics in idiopathic tinnitus appear to be correlated to each other. This information may help improve understanding of tinnitus and its treatment.
Clinical trial on tonal tinnitus with tailor-made notched music training

Abstract:Background: Tinnitus is a result of hyper-activity/hyper-synchrony of auditory neurons coding the tinnitus frequency, which has developed due to synchronous mass activity owing to the lack of inhibition. We assume that removal of exactly these frequencies from a complex auditory stimulus will cause the brain to reorganize around tonotopic regions coding the tinnitus frequency through inhibition-induced plasticity. Based on this assumption, a novel treatment for tonal tinnitus--tailor-made notched music training (TMNMT)--has been introduced and was tested in this clinical trial. Methods: A randomized controlled trial in parallel group design was performed in a double-blinded manner. We included 100 participants with chronic, tonal tinnitus who listened to tailor-made notched music for two hours a day for three consecutive months. Our primary outcome measures were the Tinnitus Handicap Questionnaire and Visual Analog Scales measuring perceived tinnitus loudness, awareness, distress and handicap. Participants rated their tinnitus before and after the training as well as one month after cessation of the training. Results: While no effect was found for the primary outcome measures, tinnitus distress, as measured by the Tinnitus Questionnaire, a secondary outcome measure, developed differently in the two groups. The treatment group showed higher distress scores while the placebo group revealed lower distress scores after the training. However, this effect did not reach significance in post-hoc analysis and disappeared at follow-up measurements. At follow-up, tinnitus loudness in the treatment group was significantly reduced as compared to the control group. Post hoc analysis, accounting for low reliability scores in the Visual Analog Scales, showed a significant reduction of the overall Visual Analog Scale mean score in the treatment group even at the post measurement. Conclusion: This is the first study on TMNMT that was planned and conducted following the CONSORT statement standards for clinical trials. The current work is one more step towards a final evaluation of TMNMT. Already after three months the effect of training with tailor-made notched music is observable in the most direct rating of tinnitus perception - the tinnitus loudness, while more global measures of tinnitus distress do not show relevant changes.
