Abstract:In this international study, we examined the incidence of hip fractures, post‐fracture treatment, and all‐cause mortality following hip fractures, based on demographics, geography, and calendar year. We used patient‐level healthcare data from 19 countries and regions to identify patients aged 50 years and older hospitalized with a hip fracture from 2005 to 2018. The age‐ and sex‐standardized incidence rates of hip fractures, post‐hip fracture treatment (defined as the proportion of patients receiving anti‐osteoporosis medication with various mechanisms of action [bisphosphonates, denosumab, raloxifene, strontium ranelate, or teriparatide] following a hip fracture), and the all‐cause mortality rates after hip fractures were estimated using a standardized protocol and common data model. The number of hip fractures in 2050 was projected based on trends in the incidence and estimated future population demographics. In total, 4,115,046 hip fractures were identified from 20 databases. The reported age‐ and sex‐standardized incidence rates of hip fractures ranged from 95.1 (95% confidence interval [CI] 94.8‐95.4) in Brazil to 315.9 (95% CI 314.0‐317.7) in Denmark per 100,000 population. Incidence rates decreased over the study period in most countries; however, the estimated total annual number of hip fractures nearly doubled from 2018 to 2050. Within 1 year following a hip fracture, post‐hip fracture treatment ranged from 11.5% (95% CI 11.1%‐11.9%) in Germany to 50.3% (95% CI 50.0%‐50.7%) in the United Kingdom and all‐cause mortality rates ranged from 14.4% (95% CI 14.0%‐14.8%) in Singapore to 28.3% (95% CI 28.0%‐28.6%) in the United Kingdom. Males had lower use of anti‐osteoporosis medication than females, higher rates of all‐cause mortality, and a larger increase in the projected number of hip fractures by 2050. Substantial variations exist in the global epidemiology of hip fractures and post‐fracture outcomes. Our findings inform possible actions to reduce the projected public health burden of osteoporotic fractures among the ageing population.

Abstract:An analysis of United States (US) Medicare claims data from 2002 to 2015 for women aged ≥ 65 years found that age-adjusted hip fracture rates for 2013, 2014, and 2015 were higher than projected, resulting in an estimated increase of more than 11,000 hip fractures.IntroductionHip fractures are a major public health concern due to high morbidity, mortality, and healthcare expenses. Previous studies have reported a decrease in the annual incidence of hip fractures in the US beginning in 1995, coincident with the introduction of modern diagnostic tools and therapeutic agents for osteoporosis. In recent years, there has been less bone density testing and fewer prescriptions for osteoporosis treatments. The large osteoporosis treatment gap raises concern of possible adverse effects on hip fracture rates.MethodsWe assessed hip fracture incidence in the US to determine if the previous decline in hip fracture incidence continued. Using 2002 to 2015 Medicare Part A and Part B claims for women ≥ 65 years old, we calculated age-adjusted hip fracture rates, weighting to the 2014 population.ResultsWe found that hip fracture rates declined each year from 2002 to 2012 and then plateaued at levels higher than projected for years 2013, 2014, and 2015.ConclusionsThe plateau in age-adjusted hip fracture incidence rate resulted in more than 11,000 additional estimated hip fractures over the time periods 2013, 2014, and 2015. We recommend further study to assess all factors contributing to this remarkable change in hip fracture rate and to develop strategies to reduce the osteoporosis treatment gap.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to provide population based trends in incidence rate, hospital length of stay (HLOS), trauma mechanism, and costs for healthcare and lost productivity of subtrochanteric femur fractures in the Netherlands.METHODS: Data on patients with subtrochanteric femur fractures sustained between January 1, 2000 and December 31, 2019 were extracted from the National Medical Registration of the Dutch Hospital Database. Incidence rates, HLOS, health care and productivity costs were calculated in sex- and age-specific groups.RESULTS: A total of 14,399 patients sustained a subtrochanteric fracture in the 20-year study period. Incidence rates in the entire population dropped by 15.5 % from 4.5 to 3.8 per 100,000 person years (py). This decline was larger in women (6.4 to 5.2 per 100,000 py, -19.8 %) than in men (2.6 to 2.5 per 100,000 py, -4.0 %). HLOS declined by 62.5 % from a mean of 21.6 days in 2000-2004 to 8.1 days in 2015-2019. Subtrochanteric fractures were associated with total annual costs of €15.5 M, of which 91 % (€14.1 M) were health care costs and €1.3 M were costs due to lost productivity. Mean healthcare costs per case were lower in men (€16,394) than in women (€23,154).CONCLUSION: The incidence rates and HLOS of subtrochanteric fractures in the Netherlands have decreased in the 2000-2019 study period and subtrochanteric fractures are associated with a relatively small total annual cost of €15.5 M. Increasing incidence rates and a bimodal age distribution, described in previous studies from other European countries, were not found in the Dutch population.

Abstract:Background and Aims Hip fractures are a serious health concern and a major contributor to healthcare resource utilization. We aimed to investigate nationwide trends in the United States in demographics and outcomes in patients after hip fracture repair surgery. Methods After Institutional Review Board approval (IRB#2012-050), we identified patients who underwent hip fracture repair surgery (internal fixation, hemiarthroplasty, or total hip arthroplasty) in the Premier Healthcare Database from 2016 to 2021. Patient demographics, comorbidities, complications, and anesthetic and surgical details were analyzed. Cochran–Armitage trend tests and simple linear regression were used to determine trends. Results We identified 347,086 hip fracture surgical repair cases. The proportion of femoral neck relative to multi-location, pertrochanteric, and subtrochanteric fractures, increased. General anesthesia as the sole anesthetic trended downward (68.9% to 56.8%; P =.01). The use of peripheral nerve block stayed stable (5.6% to 5.7%). The incidence in preexisting comorbid conditions either increased or did not significantly change for all Elixhauser comorbidities, with the exception of valvular disease, which decreased. Regarding major complications (measured in counts per 1000 inpatient days), decreased rates were seen for acute myocardial infarction (from 1.71 to 1.29; p=0.032), other cardiac complications (from 12.59 to 10.67; p=0.043), pneumonia (from 4.17 to 2.72; p<.001), and pulmonary complications (from 9.54 to 6.78; p=0.032). Mortality did not change. (table 1) Conclusions From 2016 to 2021, the overall comorbidity burden increased among patients undergoing hip fracture repair surgery. Throughout this same period, incidence of postoperative complications either remained constant or declined. Moreover, use of general anesthesia decreased over time.

Abstract:In the present experiments, in an attempt to clarify the mechanism of the influence of the blood osmolality on the electrolyte concentration in saliva, the changes in concentration of the organic component, i. e., protein and hexosamine, in saliva resulting from the intravenous administration of hypertonic solution were studied.The results are as follows:1. Not only electrolyte concentration, but also protein and hexosamine concentration in saliva were increased after the intravenous administration of hypertonic glucose or NaCl.2. The reduction of salivary flow rate appeared together with the increase of blood osmolality, and the concentration of protein, and other constituents in saliva increased. The rate of increase of protein concentration can be explained by the reduction of salivary volume.3. From the relation between the salivary flow rate and the protein excretory rate, it is suggested that the increase of water reabsorption rate through the duct epithelium may play an important role in the increase of protein and hexosamine as well as electrolyte concentration in saliva.4. It was verified by the present experiment using RISA, that the protein was scarcely reabsorbed through the duct epithelium and protein contents in saliva was hardly influenced by the increase of blood osmolality.5. Thus, it is suggested that the previous hypothesis, which explains an increase of concentration of electrolyte in saliva at the state of hypertonicity of body fluid is due to a depressed reabsorption of electrolyte, should be revised.

This is particularly so when the area of research is one that is either highly sensitive, or that involves participants who are deemed to be particularly vulnerable. This article explores the inherent tensions in matters of participant recruitment among meeting the demands of institutional ethics committees, satisfying the concerns of clinicians in the field and the need to maintain methodological rigor. A postgraduate research student’s experience of these tensions underpins the discussion. The article concludes with an outline of the student’s strategies and resolution of these issues.

Abstract:Objective: Fractures among the geriatric population impose a substantial burden on healthcare systems. This study aims to investigate the incidence and distribution of fractures among geriatric individuals over seven years, analyzing changes by age and sex. The findings will inform national healthcare strategies for addressing the growing impact of geriatric fractures. Materials and methods: Electronic health records from a nationwide personal health records system were analyzed, focusing on ICD-10 codes for fractures. Recurrent codes for the same patients within three months were excluded. Patients were categorized into three age groups (65-74, 75-84, and 85+ years), and fractures were grouped anatomically. Incidence rates for specific fracture locations were calculated based on the actual population at risk annually. Incidence rates were further stratified by sex and age groups using Turkey's age- and sex-specific populations. Results: A total of 1,004,663 geriatric fractures (66.9 % female, 33.1 % male) were identified over seven years. The overall fracture incidence among the geriatric population was 1.9 % (1910/100,000). Hip fractures were the most common (25.2 %), followed by wrist (15 %) and lumbar-pelvic fractures (11.9 %). Femur fractures were predominant in the 75-84 and 85+ age groups, while wrist fractures were more common in the 65-74 age group. Fracture incidences generally increased with age, except for ankle, foot, and toe fractures, which decreased with age for both sexes (p < 0.05). The male/female ratio was lowest for wrist, elbow, and humeral shaft fractures (1:3.2, 1:2.7, and 1:2.7, respectively). The lowest overall fracture incidence was observed in 2020 (1568/100,000), while the highest was in 2017 (2523/100,000). Conclusion: With Turkey's aging population, the socioeconomic impact of geriatric fractures is anticipated to rise. Fracture patterns and incidence vary by age and sex among geriatric individuals. These findings provide valuable insights for healthcare planning and the development of community-based preventive measures tailored to specific fracture locations and demographics.

Abstract:We aimed to estimate the absolute and age-standardized number of hip fractures in Sweden during the past two decades to produce time trends and future projections. We used nationwide register data from 1998 to 2019 and a validated algorithm to calculate the annual absolute and age-standardized number of incident hip fractures over time. The total hip fracture burden was 335,399 incident events over the 22 years, with a change from 16,180 in 1998 to 13,929 in 2019, a 14% decrease. One decade after the index hip fracture event, 80% of the patients had died, and 11% had a new hip fracture. After considering the steady growth of the older population, the decline in the age-standardized number of hip fractures from 1998 through 2019 was 29.2% (95% CI 28.1–30.2%) in women and 29.3% (95% CI 27.5–30.7%) in men. With a continued similar reduction in hip fracture incidence, we can predict that 14,800 hip fractures will occur in 2034 and 12,000 in 2050 despite doubling the oldest old (≥ 80 years). Without an algorithm, a naïve estimate of the total number of hip fractures over the study period was 539,947, with a second 10-year hip fracture risk of 35%. We note an ongoing decline in the absolute and age-standardized actual number of hip fractures in Sweden, with consequences for future projections.

Abstract:Biological fate of 14C-labeled butylated hydroxytoluene (14C-BHT) in rat liver was investigated. After a single oral dose of 14C-BHT, the radioactivity was reached a maximum concentration in the liver after 6 hr and in the serum after 6-12 hr. A bulk of radioactivity was found in the supernatant fraction, although the amount of radioactivity and specific radioactivity increased in the microsomal fraction with time. The radioactivity which was incorporated into the microsomal fraction was mainly located in the smooth ER 3-6 hr after the administration. These results suggest that the radioactivity, which was incorporated into the supernatant fraction, migrated to the microsomal fraction.

Abstract:Oslo in Norway has had the highest incidence of hip fractures in the world. The incidence in Oslo has been thoroughly described every decade since the late 1970s. The incidence in Oslo has previously been higher compared to the rest of Norway but has now decreased to a level below the country average. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to report the incidence of hip fractures in Oslo in 2019 and compare it with the incidence rates from the previous four decades. Methods: Patients residing in Oslo in 2019 with a new hip fracture identified by searching the Oslo hospital's patient administrative systems and protocols from the operating theaters. The diagnosis was verified through medical records and/or radiographs. To compare with previous studies, the direct standardization method was used with the population of Oslo in 2019 as the standard. Results: A total of 758 hip fractures, 70% women, were identified in 2019. The age-standardized incidence rates per 10,000 person-years in 2019 (95% CI) were 45 (41.1-48.8) for women and 30 (25.8-33.8) for men. In women, there has been a continuous decline in age-standardized rates the last three decades and in men the last two decades. The most pronounced decline was seen in the oldest age groups over 70 years. There has been a secular decline in both cervical and trochanteric fractures; however, the decrease in trochanteric fractures was most distinct for males, with more than two times higher risk in 1996/1997 compared to 2019. Conclusion: Incidence rates for hip fractures in Oslo in 2019 were the lowest rate reported since 1978. The decrease was significant for both men and women. For the first time, the incidence rates are below the national rates of Norway. However, the rates are still among the highest worldwide.

Abstract:Hip fracture is a public health concern because of its considerable morbidity, excess mortality, great risk of disability, and high societal healthcare costs. China has the largest population of older people in the world and is experiencing rapid population aging and facing great challenges from an increasing number of hip fractures. However, few studies reported the epidemiology, especially at a national level. We aimed to evaluate trends in hip fracture incidence and associated costs for hospitalization in China.We conducted a population-based study using data between 2012 and 2016 from the national databases of Urban Employee Basic Medical Insurance and Urban Resident Basic Medical Insurance in China, covering about 480 million residents. Data from around 102.56 million participants aged 55 years and older during the study period were analyzed. A total of 190,560 incident hip fracture patients (mean age 77.05 years, standard deviation 8.94; 63.99% female) were identified. Primary outcomes included the age- and sex-specific incidences of hip fracture. Associated annual costs for hospitalization were also calculated. Incidence was described as per 100,000 person-years at risk, and 95% confidence intervals were computed assuming a Poisson distribution. Hip fracture incidence overall in China did not increase during the study period despite rapid population aging. Incidence per 100,000 was 180.72 (95% CI 137.16, 224.28; P < 0.001) in 2012 and 177.13 (95% CI 139.93, 214.33; P < 0.001) in 2016 for females, and 121.86 (95% CI 97.30, 146.42; P < 0.001) in 2012 and 99.15 (95% CI 81.31, 116.99; P < 0.001) in 2016 for males. For both sexes, declines in hip fracture incidence were observed in patients aged 65 years and older, although incidence was relatively stable in younger patients. However, the total absolute number of hip fractures in those 55 years and older increased about 4-fold. The total costs for hospitalization showed a steep rise from US$60 million to US$380 million over the study period. Costs for hospitalization per patient increased about 1.59-fold, from US$4,300 in 2012 to US$6,840 in 2016. The main limitation of the study was the unavailability of data on imaging information to adjudicate cases of hip fracture.Our results show that hip fracture incidence among patients aged 55 and over in China reached a plateau between 2012 and 2016. However, the absolute number of hip fractures and associated medical costs for hospitalization increased rapidly because of population aging.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Fractures are a common reason for hospital admissions. However, regional and short-term studies show a varying incidence rate (IR) of fractures, and most of the surveys were conducted from only a few medical centers. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the epidemiological data of fracture hospitalizations of middle-aged and elderly persons in Taiwan between 2000 and 2015.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data from fractures occurring between 2000 and 2015 were obtained from the National Health Insurance Research Database in Taiwan for this study. The IR of fracture admission in patients, aged 40 years or older at the time of admission and first-time diagnosed with a fracture following admission, was calculated.RESULTS: We found that the IR of the fracture hospitalizations declined considerably from 95.70 per 10,000 person-years in 2000, to 68.48 per 10,000 person-years in 2015. The three most common fracture hospitalizations accounting for more than 50% of all fractures were fractures of the femur/hip, radius or ulna, and vertebral column. The IR of fracture hospitalization increased with age and was found to be higher in women than in men. The most common cause of fracture hospitalization for men and patients under 65 years of age was traffic accidents. In contrast, falls were the most frequent causes of fracture hospitalization for women and patients over 65 years of age.CONCLUSION: The present study furnishes an updated picture of the incidence of fracture hospitalization over a 16-year period among middle-aged and elderly persons in Taiwan.

Abstract:Hip fractures are a major public health concern. Number of hip fractures cases increased by 20% from 2012 to 2018. Factors associated with post-fracture mortality included men, those who are frail, living in a non-metropolitan region, or residing in a residential aged care facility. Our results are useful for planning healthcare interventions. Purpose: Hip fractures are a major public health concern in Australia. Data on hip fracture incidence and mortality are needed to plan and evaluate healthcare interventions. The aims of the study were to investigate (1) the time-trend in absolute number and incidence of first hip fractures, and (2) factors associated with mortality following first hip fractures in Victoria, Australia. Methods: A state-wide cohort study of all patients aged [Formula: see text] 50 years admitted to a Victorian hospital for first hip fracture between July 2012 and June 2018. Annual age-standardized incidence rates were calculated using population data from Australian Bureau of Statistics. Multivariate negative binomial regression was used to investigate factors associated with post-fracture mortality. Results: Overall, 31,578 patients had a first hip fracture, of whom two-thirds were women and 47% were [Formula: see text] 85 years old. Absolute annual numbers of first hip fractures increased by 20%. There was no significant change in age- and sex-adjusted incidence. In total, 8% died within 30 days and 25% within 1 year. Factors associated with 30-day mortality included age (≥ 85 years old versus 50-64 years old, mortality rate ratio [MRR] 8.05, 95% confidence interval [CI] 5.86-11.33), men (MRR 2.11, 95% CI 1.88-2.37), higher Hospital Frailty Risk Scores (high frailty versus no frailty, MRR 3.46, 95% CI 2.66-4.50), admission from a residential aged care facility (RACF) (MRR 2.28, 95% CI 1.85-2.82), and residing in a non-metropolitan region (MRR 1.22, 95% CI 1.09-1.38). The same factors were associated with 1-year mortality. Conclusion: The absolute increase in hip fractures highlights the need for interventions to reduce fracture risk, especially for those at higher risk of post-fracture mortality, including men and those who are frail, living in a non-metropolitan region, or residing in a RACF.
Hip fracture projections up to the year 2060: an analysis based on data from the National Hip Fracture Database (NHFD) for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland

Abstract:Introduction: Hip fractures are common and cause a huge socioeconomic burden to patients, their carers, and healthcare services worldwide. Our aim was to examine how much hip fracture numbers would be expected to rise over coming decades, simply as a consequence of the ageing of the population. Methods: We used data from the National Hip Fracture Database on the volume of hip fractures occurring in England, Wales and Northern Ireland in the year 2019 (n = 67,210). We projected future numbers of hip fractures by applying this number, assuming stable rates, to population growth forecast data provided by the Office for National Statistics up to the year 2060. Results: By 2060, the number of hip fractures occurring in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are projected to increase by 107 % (n = 139,105). In males, there was an estimated increase of 130 % compared with 97 % in females. There was an estimated increase across all age ranges, however the oldest age groups demonstrated the largest relative increases. The estimated increase for those aged 90 years or over was as high as 348 % and 198 % for males and females, respectively. Conclusion: As a consequence of future ageing of the population, the demand on the health service posed by people with hip fracture is projected to more than double by the year 2060. Policymakers should be striving to mitigate against the huge public health impact of these projections by maximising fracture prevention strategies as far as possible and by improving the quality of hip fracture care.

Abstract:Osteoporotic fracture has been understudied in men. In US male veterans aged 50 years and older between 2002 and 2019, hip fracture incidence increased between 2006 and 2019, fewer than 6% of men underwent DXA, and fewer than 0.5% of men were treated. Investigation of low screening and treatment rates is warranted. Purpose: In the United States, the annual incidence of osteoporotic hip fracture is estimated to be 250,000 to 300,000; the one-year mortality in some studies has been as high as 32%. Reports that hip fracture rates in US women 65 years and older may no longer be declining led to this investigation of hip fracture in men, a less studied population. We assessed the trends in the incidence of hip fracture in US male veterans 50 years and older of age as well as the rates of diagnosis and treatment in such men. Methods: We assessed the recent trends of hip fracture incidence in a nation-wide male veteran population 50 years and older of age. Using data from the US Veterans Affairs Informatics and Computing Infrastructure (VINCI) 2002-2019, we calculated the annual age-standardized hip fracture incidence. Secondary objectives included evaluating the annual proportion of hip fracture patients who underwent dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) before or after the fracture and/or received osteoporosis medication after the hip fracture over the study period. Results: Hip fracture incidence increased in male veterans from 2006 to 2019. Fewer than 6% of men underwent a DXA scan and fewer than 0.5% received osteoporosis medications up to two years after a hip fracture. Conclusions: Despite available screening methods such as DXAs and medications for primary and secondary prevention of osteoporotic fractures, hip fracture incidence is not decreasing in older male veterans. Our study highlights a need for closer attention to fracture risk in men.
Are osteoporotic fractures due to osteoporosis? Impacts of a frailty pandemic in an aging world

Abstract:Osteoporosis is a major risk factor for fractures in the elderly. Osteoporotic (hip, forearm, and vertebral) fractures today strike hard on Western populations, with a lifetime risk in women similar to the risk for cardiovascular disease. The risk of dying from hip fracture equals breast cancer mortality. Osteoporotic fractures are associated with pain, crippling and social dependency; annual costs in the United States are between $7 to $20 billion, and the contribution from hip fractures is above 60%. Of all hospital beds in Europe, 1 to 1.5% are occupied by osteoporotic patients, a figure expected to more than double during the next fifty years. Whereas vertebral fractures mainly seem to be caused by osteoporosis alone, hip fractures are heavily affected by an age-dependent contributory risk factor, frailty. Frailty might act as an involutionary phenomenon or as comorbidity, particularly neurological; it affects fracture risk along several causal paths, but the increasing frequency and severity of falls are essential. Results of attempts to prevent falls are discouragingly poor. Nevertheless, identification of risk possessors, particularly demented elderly living in institutions, is substantial for directing preventive and treatment programs, mainly acting on general health and on osteoporosis. Frailty of populations increases with longevity. Consequently, projections of fracture occurrence are too conservative. The annual hip fracture incidence in Asia in 2050 might pass 10 million, rather than the hitherto forecasted 3.2 million, thus shifting tomorrow's burden of age-related fractures from the wealthier to the poorer countries. There is an immediate call for vigorous global actions to reallocate resources, to reorganize health care, and to institute high-risk prevention programs.

Abstract:A growing elderly population is expected worldwide, and the rate of hip fractures is decisive for the future fracture burden. Significant declines in hip fracture rates in Norway, the USA, France, Germany, and the UK are required to counteract the impact of the ageing effects.IntroductionThis study aims to evaluate the consequences of the expected growth of the elderly population worldwide on the hip fracture burden using Norway as an example. Furthermore, we wanted to estimate the decline in hip fracture rates required to counteract the anticipated increase in the burden of hip fracture for Norway, the USA, France, Germany, and the UK.MethodsThe burden of future postmenopausal hip fractures in Norway were estimated given (1) constant age-specific rates, (2) continued decline, and (3) different cohort scenarios. Based on population projection estimates and population age-specific hip fracture rates in women 65 years and older, we calculated the required declines in hip fracture rates needed to counteract the growing elderly populations in Norway, the USA, France, Germany, and the UK.ResultsThe level of age-specific hip fracture rates had a huge impact on the future hip fracture burden in Norway. Even if the hip fracture rates decline at the same speed, a 22 % increase in the burden of hip fractures can be expected by 2040. An annual decline in hip fracture rates of 1.1–2.2 % until 2040 is required to counteract the effects of the growing elderly population on the future burden of hip fractures in Norway, the USA, France, Germany, and the UK.ConclusionsHip fracture rates have a great impact on the burden of hip fractures. The rates will have to decline significantly to counteract the impact of a growing elderly population. A change in preventive strategies and further studies are warranted to identify the complex causes associated to hip fractures.

Abstract:Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and the consequent social distancing period are thought to have influenced the incidence of osteoporotic fracture in various ways, but the exact changes have not yet been well elucidated. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the incidence of osteoporotic fracture using a nationwide cohort.Methods: The monthly incidence rates of vertebral; hip; and non-vertebral, non-hip fractures were collected from a nationwide database of the Korean National Health Insurance Review and Assessment from July 2016 to June 2021. Segmented regression models were used to assess the change in levels and trends in the monthly incidence of osteoporotic fractures.Results: There was a step decrease in the incidence of vertebral fractures for both males (6.181 per 100,000, P =0.002) and females (19.299 per 100,000, P =0.006). However, there was a negative trend in the incidence of hip fracture among both males (-0.023 per 100,000 per month, P =0.023) and females (-0.032 per 100,000 per month, P =0.019). No impact of COVID-19-related social distancing was noted.Conclusions: In conclusion, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, vertebral fracture incidence considerably decreased with the implementation of social distancing measures.
