Abstract:Objectives Adolescents and young adults (AYAs, 18–39 years) with cancer identifying as racially/ethnically minoritized or 2SLGBTQIA+ (Two‐Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and "+" referring to other queer identities) have been underrepresented in cancer research. This study explores the aspects of identity that hold significance for these minoritized AYAs and how these facets impact their healthcare experiences. Methods Eligible participants comprised English‐speaking AYAs who self‐identified as racially/ethnically minoritized and/or 2SLGBTQIA+, were diagnosed with cancer between the ages of 15–39, currently aged > 18, and had received or were receiving cancer care within Canadian healthcare system. Additionally, four patient partners meeting the same criteria were recruited as research collaborators. Semi‐structured one‐on‐one virtual interviews guided by an interview script were conducted, and qualitative analysis employed a framework approach. Results We recruited 23 participants from 4 Canadian provinces (mean age: 28, Range: 20–44); 17 identified as racially/ethnically minoritized, one as sexual/gender minoritized, and five as racially/ethnically and sexually/gender minoritized. Participants emphasized that their culture/ethnicity, religion/spirituality, sexuality, gender, family, career, and being an immigrant are important aspects of their identity, with only one participant recognizing their identity as a "person with cancer". A cancer diagnosis altered the aspects of identity deemed most significant by participants. Both visible and invisible aspects of identity shaped participants' experiences and influenced their level of trust in the healthcare system. Conclusion Racially, ethnically, gender, or sexually minoritized AYAs with cancer place considerable importance on aspects of their identity that are shaped by their respective communities. Recognizing and respecting these identities are paramount for healthcare professionals to deliver safe and inclusive care.

The Role of Social Support in Adolescent/Young Adults Coping with Cancer Treatment

Abstract:Adolescents/young-adult (AYA) cancer patients are a psychosocially at-risk group as they are often less well-studied than other age cancer cohorts. Therefore, they experience disparities in access to developmentally informed treatment. Social support has been determined as an important aspect of AYAs’ cancer experience, but additional research was needed to describe specific behaviors AYAs found helpful and to explore how AYAs seek opportunities for additional support. As part of a larger qualitative study, study aims were to determine how AYAs (ages 15–26) cope during cancer treatment and examine how social support interacts with individual AYA coping. Participants included 10 AYA cancer patients undergoing treatment (mean age = 18.9 years) and 10 parents (mean age = 45.6 years). Descriptively, participants scored within the normal to high range on measures of hope, depression/anxiety/stress, quality of life, and social support. Participants completed semi-structured, audio-recorded interviews that were transcribed and coded as generated. Qualitative analysis was guided by principles of grounded theory and utilized the constant comparative approach. Themes within social support groups included presence, distraction, positive attitude, and maintaining AYA autonomy, communication, and advocacy. Results suggest social supports provide additional coping resources for AYAs with cancer through supplementing individual coping strategies. Future directions/implications for intervention/treatment are discussed.
What do adolescents and young adults want from cancer resources? Insights from a Delphi panel of AYA patients

Abstract:Purpose: Cancer treatment programs and community-based support organizations are increasingly producing information and support resources geared to adolescent and young adult patients (AYAs); however, systematically-derived knowledge about user preferences for these resources is lacking. The primary purpose of this study was to generate findings from informed AYA cancer patients that resource developers can use to create products consistent with AYAs' expressed preferences for information and support. Methods: Utilizing a modified Delphi technique, AYA cancer patients identified barriers to optimal AYA cancer care, cancer resources that address their needs, and specific characteristics of cancer resources they find helpful. The Delphi panel consisted of a convenience sample of 21 patients aged 18-39 years, who were diagnosed with cancer between ages 15-39 and were no more than 8 years out from cancer treatment at the time of the study. Survey data were collected in three consecutive and iterative rounds over the course of 6 months in 2015. Results: Findings indicated that AYA patients prefer resources that reduce feelings of loneliness, create a sense of community or belonging, and provide opportunities to meet other AYA patients. Among the top barriers to optimal cancer care, AYAs identified a lack of cancer care providers specializing in AYA care, a lack of connection to an AYA patient community, and their own lack of ability to navigate the health system. Participants also described aspects of cancer information and supportive care resources that they believe address AYAs' concerns. Conclusion: Information derived from this study will help developers of cancer information and support resources to better reach their intended audience. From the point of view of AYA cancer patients, optimal cancer care and utilization of information and support resources requires that cancer support programs foster meaningful connections among AYA patients. Results also suggest that patient resources should equip AYAs with practical knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the health system and advocate for themselves. Given patient interest in social media, future research should further investigate optimizing online resources to serve the AYA cancer population.

Abstract:Temporal and spatial gene regulation during Bacillus subtilis sporulation involves the activation and inactivation of multiple sigma subunits of RNA polymerase in a cascade. In the mother cell compartment of sporulating cells, expression of the sigE gene, encoding the earlier-acting sigma factor, sigmaE, is negatively regulated by the later-acting sigma factor, sigmaK. Here, it is shown that the negative feedback loop does not require SinR, an inhibitor of sigE transcription. Production of sigmaK about 1 h earlier than normal does affect Spo0A, which when phosphorylated is an activator of sigE transcription. A mutation in the spo0A gene, which bypasses the phosphorelay leading to the phosphorylation of Spo0A, diminished the negative effect of early sigmaK production on sigE expression early in sporulation. Also, early production of sigmaK reduced expression of other Spo0A-dependent genes but not expression of the Spo0A-independent ald gene. In contrast, both sigE and ald were overexpressed late in development of cells that fail to make sigmaK. The ald promoter, like the sigE promoter, is believed to be recognized by sigmaA RNA polymerase, suggesting that sigmaK may inhibit sigmaA activity late in sporulation. To exert this negative effect, sigmaK must be transcriptionally active. A mutant form of sigmaK that associates with core RNA polymerase, but does not direct transcription of a sigmaK-dependent gene, failed to negatively regulate expression of sigE or ald late in development. On the other hand, the negative effect of early sigmaK production on sigE expression early in sporulation did not require transcriptional activity of sigmaK RNA polymerase. These results demonstrate that sigmaK can negatively regulate sigE expression by two different mechanisms, one observed when sigmaK is produced earlier than normal, which does not require sigmaK to be transcriptionally active and affects Spo0A, and the other observed when sigmaK is produced at the normal time, which requires sigmaK RNA polymerase transcriptional activity. The latter mechanism facilitates the switch from sigmaE to sigmaK in the cascade controlling mother cell gene expression.

Abstract: Leopard shark immunoglobulins are found in 7S and 17S forms, which are indistinguishable chemically and antigenically, and probably are analogous to IgM molecules of mammals (1). The two molecular forms thus appear to share common H and L polypeptide chains. Suran and Papermaster reported that the amino terminal 6 residues from H- and L-chains of at least a portion of 7S and 17S leopard shark Ig were virtually identical to each other and to the homologous regions of kappa L-chains of mouse and man (2). These results suggest that relatively little divergent evolution had occurred in this region of H- and L-chains at the level of the elasmobranchs and support the common origin of these chains by duplication of an ancestral gene (3, 4). However, lambda L-chains and the gamma and mu H-chains from mammalian Ig almost invariably possess a blocked N-terminal residue identified as pyrrolidonecarboxylic acid (PCA).

Abstract:Background: Having a cancer diagnosis during early adulthood can be a significant challenge for an individual. Nurses' supportive communication plays a vital role during the diagnosis and treatment period to lessen psychological distress and promote coping. Objective: This exploratory study aimed to examine (1) the experiences of emerging adults with cancer (EAs) aged between 18 and 25 years in communicating with nurses during diagnosis and treatment and (2) nurses' experiences of providing supportive communication with this patient group. Methods: Semistructured interviews were conducted with EAs and nurses with experience caring for this patient group. Thematic analysis was conducted, guided by interpretive hermeneutic perspectives. Results: Eight EA participants and 7 nurse participants participated in interviews. Five themes emerged: (1) having casual conversations with nurses helped EAs cope during cancer treatment and (2) helped EAs fulfill the need for social connectedness, (3) nurses as a different form of peer-like support, (4) nurses used themselves as a therapeutic tool to foster trust and emotional safety of EAs, and (5) nurses needed to maintain professional boundaries while being compassionate. Conclusions: This study highlighted a rather underdocumented aspect of supportive communication: meeting psychosocial needs through casual, day-to-day conversations. Implications for practice: Having casual conversations with nurses appeared to help EAs' psychological coping during cancer treatment. These casual conversations, which on the surface seemed clinically insignificant, fulfilled their psychosocial needs. Considering the valuable interpersonal engagement that led to emotional benefits for EAs, communication training for cancer nurses needs to build their capacity to maintain both relational and emotional boundaries.

Abstract:Purpose: Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs) with cancer are an at-risk group with unique palliative and supportive care needs. Social support in AYAs with cancer is associated with better coping, quality of life, and psychosocial well-being. Here, we extend existing research to examine the sources and types of support received by AYAs with advanced cancer. Methods: AYAs participated in a semi-structured, 1:1 interview on communication and psychosocial support needs. The present analysis focused on social support experiences for AYAs with advanced cancer. Directed content analysis was used to develop the codebook. Established social support constructs provided a coding framework. We presented our qualitative findings as a code frequency report with quantified frequency counts of all "source of support" and "type of support" codes. We assigned a global "sufficiency of support code" to each AYA. Results: We interviewed 32 AYAs with advanced cancer (Mage = 18, SDage = 3.2, 41% female). Most AYAs identified family (namely, caregivers) as their primary source of support and stated that family universally provided all types of support: emotional, informational, instrumental, and social companionship. They received informational and emotional support from clinicians, and received emotional support and social companionship from healthy peers, cancer peers, and their existing community. One-third of participants were coded as having "mixed support" and described a lack of support in some domains. Conclusion: AYAs with advanced cancer described caregivers as their universal source of support, and that other support sources provided support for specific needs. Future research should continue to evaluate social support needs and family-based palliative and supportive care interventions to bolster social support resources in this high-risk group.

Abstract:Introduction How to communicate effectively with adolescent and young adults with cancer (AYACs) is a research priority. In a UK‐wide survey of young people with cancer's research priorities, communication was a striking cross‐cutting theme. It is increasingly recognised that AYACs have experiences and communication needs that differ significantly from those of younger children and older adults. The purpose of this review is to explore the features of effective clinical communication with AYACs. Methods A literature search was undertaken to identify and map the available evidence using a broad scope to get an overview of the pertinent literature, identify knowledge gaps and clarify concepts. The searches yielded 5825 records, generating 4040 unique articles. These were screened and 71 full articles were read by four researchers with disagreements resolved by discussion leaving 29 included articles. Narrative synthesis was undertaken in relation to each of the research questions. Results Three key themes were identified: being an adolescent/young adult, supporters, and healthcare professionals (HCPs). AYACs need to feel that HCPs understand their unique perspective. They want to be involved, this changes over time and in different contexts. Supporters are a central tenet, are most often parents and undertake several roles which are not always universally supportive. HCPs enable involvement of AYACs, and this needs to be actively promoted. AYACs preference for their level of involvement requires continual assessment. The three themes are interlinked and exist within the wider scope of the triadic encounter and cancer experience. Conclusion Supporters, most often parents were a key feature across the data and were seemingly paradoxical in nature. Triadic communication, the presence of a third person, is a central tenet of communication with AYACs and we propose a conceptual model to represent the nuances, components, and facets of this complex communication.

The mediating role of appraisal on health-related quality of life in adolescent and young adult cancer survivors

Abstract:Background Adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors (first diagnosed with cancer at age 15–39) are distinct within the cancer community due to their unique challenges and diverse psycho-behavioral characteristics. This study aimed to analyze psycho-behavioral pathways and further explore the mediating role of cognitive appraisals on AYA cancer survivors’ quality of life (QoL). Methods Three hundred and eighty-nine AYA cancer survivors were eligible for analyses and recruited to self-administer questionnaires on QoL (the Chinese version of EORTC Quality of Life Questionnaire-C30 v3.0), resilience, coping, and appraisal on site. This study performed structural equation modeling (SEM) to examine pathways on QoL based on the Rapkin & Schwartz QoL Appraisal Model. Results The average age of participants (47.6% female) was 32.7 ± 4.1 years. The SEM results closely fit the measured data ( RMSEA = 0.053, GFI = 0.955, CFI = 0.964, SRMR = 0.052). The final model showed direct negative effects of later clinical-stage, more comorbidities, and more Acceptance-Resignation coping on QoL; indirect positive effects of better resilience on QoL through less Acceptance-Resignation coping ( β = 0.286, P = 0.002). Appraisal mediated the effects of treatment and resilience on QoL ( β = -0.024, P = 0.038). Further, Calm, Peaceful, and Active appraisal patterns were associated with improved Cognitive Functioning ( β = 0.119, P = 0.009). Conclusion Appraisal, coping, and resilience could significantly mediate the effects of cancer and its treatment on the QoL of AYA cancer survivors. Future interventions targeting cognitive appraisals and psycho-behaviors will be helpful. Figuring out what matters to such a unique population and how they appraise a cancer diagnosis through treatment trajectories could help nurses adjust support.

Health Insurance Literacy Improvements Among Recently Diagnosed Adolescents and Young Adults With Cancer: Results From a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Abstract:Purpose: Adolescents and young adults (AYAs; age 18-39 years) with cancer report needing support with health insurance. We conducted a pilot randomized controlled trial to assess the feasibility and acceptability of a virtual health insurance navigation intervention (HIAYA CHAT) to improve health insurance literacy (HIL), awareness of Affordable Care Act (ACA) protections, financial toxicity, and stress. Materials and methods: HIAYA CHAT is a four-session navigator delivered program; it includes psychoeducation on insurance, navigating one's plan, insurance-related laws, and managing costs. Participants were eligible if they could access an internet-capable device, were <1 year from diagnosis, and received treatment from University of Utah Healthcare or Intermountain Health systems. We assessed the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of HIAYA CHAT compared with usual navigation care, including HIL (nine items), insurance knowledge (13 items), ACA protections (eight items), COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity (COST; 11 items), and Perceived Stress Scale (PSS; four items), using t tests and Cohen's d. Results: From November 2020 to December 2021, N = 86 AYAs enrolled (44.6% participation) and 89.3% completed the 5-month follow-up survey; 68.6% were female, 72.1% were White, 23.3% were Hispanic, 65.1% were age 26-39 years, and 87.2% were privately insured. Of intervention participants (n = 45), 67.4% completed all four sessions; among an exit interview subset (n = 10), all endorsed the program (100%). At follow-up, compared with usual navigation care, intervention participants had greater improvements in HIL, insurance and ACA protections knowledge, and PSS; effect sizes ranged from moderate to large (0.42-0.77). COST did not differ. Conclusion: The results support the feasibility and acceptability of HIAYA CHAT with related improvements in HIL.
Fostering resilience in adolescence and young adulthood: Considerations for evidence‐based, patient‐centered oncology care

Abstract:Adolescence and young adulthood are times of growth and change. For adolescents and young adults (AYAs) who are diagnosed with cancer, the demands of illness may compound normal developmental challenges and adversely affect physical, emotional, and social health. Nevertheless, AYAs have a tremendous capacity for psychosocial adaptation and resilience. Informed by the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping, observational studies in AYA oncology suggest consistent individual, social, and existential resources that may promote resilience. To date, few interventions have been designed to examine whether resilience can be taught and whether doing so affects patient‐centered outcomes. Findings point to the potential value of multicomponent programs that include various skills‐building strategies, such as stress management, mindfulness, gratitude, and positive reappraisal coping, among others. New research directions include the need to evaluate delivery strategies to enhance participant adherence and retention (e.g., eHealth modalities, optimization studies) and to examine program effectiveness in community‐based oncology practices (e.g., less resource‐rich settings in which most AYAs receive care). Ultimately, this scholarship may inform, refine, and strengthen intervention science in resilience more broadly.

Abstract:Purpose: Parental cancer brings changes and challenges which affect the whole family. Evidence shows heightened psychosocial risk among the offspring. Research among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) facing parental cancer has mainly focused on these psychosocial problems. As a reaction, there has been an increase in research on the needs of this population, since this knowledge is crucial for developing appropriate support. Despite this increase, some AYAs are still underrepresented, namely those over eighteen years old and those who have a parent with incurable cancer. Moreover, the factors hampering or fostering access to and receipt of support addressing their needs are under-investigated. Increasing our understanding of these issues is crucial to developing more effective support interventions for these young people. Our aim was therefore to gain insight into the perceived support needs of AYAs who have a parent with cancer, including the mentioned underrepresented subgroups, and the perceived factors facilitating or hindering their use of support. Methods: We conducted semi-structured interviews with 17 AYAs who have a parent with cancer of any type and stage, which were analyzed using conventional Qualitative Content Analysis (QCA). Results: Six main categories emerged from the data, encompassing various subcategories: 1) Needs surrounding the time of disclosure, 2) Information needs, 3) Informal support needs, 4) Need for effective personal coping strategies, 5) Formal support needs, and 6) Contextual and medical factors affecting support needs. AYAs perceived family members, friends and teachers as important sources of informal support, but lacked contact with peers who also have a parent with cancer. They expressed a need for formal informational and emotional support from their parent's medical team, (onco)psychologists, and their general practitioner. AYAs faced barriers in accessing formal support. A proactive attitude from healthcare providers and information about available support would help them meet their needs. Furthermore, we shed new light on needs and issues in post-secondary education. Conclusions: AYAs who are living with their parent with cancer experience informational, emotional, and practical needs in multiple contexts, such as the home, school, leisure and hospital environment. They identify their informal and formal network as important key figures in addressing these needs.

Abstract:Objectives We examined: (1) healthcare communication satisfaction and psychosocial outcomes (resilience, QoL, and psychological adjustment) in adolescents and young adults (AYA) with differences of sex development (DSD), (2) differences in psychosocial outcomes between those who were highly satisfied and those who were less satisfied, and (3) group differences between adolescents (ages 12-17) and young adults (ages 18-26) regarding associations with healthcare communication and psychosocial outcomes. Methods AYA with DSD across four study sites reported on satisfaction with healthcare communication and psychosocial outcomes. Analyses included descriptive statistics (aim 1), independent samples t-tests (aim 2), and Pearson's correlations (aim 3). Results Participants reported high levels of satisfaction with healthcare communication. Higher healthcare communication satisfaction was associated with greater resilience ( p =.01), better QoL ( p =.02), and fewer internalizing problems ( p =.04). For adolescents, higher healthcare communication satisfaction was associated with better psychosocial outcomes ( p values ranging from.01-.04). No significant associations were found in the young adult group. Conclusions Satisfaction with healthcare communication is related to positive psychosocial outcomes in adolescents with DSD. Practice Implications: These data underscore the importance of optimizing communication with families, engaging AYA in early and ongoing discussions about their care, and including psychosocial providers in DSD care.

Abstract:Adolescence is a time of rapid growth and development and may be accompanied by increased risk-taking behaviors and independence. Youth are particularly at risk for high levels of stress, decreased physical activity, unsafe sexual activity, abuse, depression, and suicide. Considering the unique health risks adolescents face, healthcare service access and utilization can play a pivotal role in promoting positive long term health outcomes throughout adulthood. At the same time, adolescents must often rely on parents/caregivers to mediate their healthcare access. Understanding how adolescents perceive adult interactions within healthcare is important for developing interventions that increase youth access to healthcare. We found that adolescents perceived adult-mediated healthcare experiences as either supportive (Subthemes: Recognition Builds Trust and Validation) or unsupportive (Subthemes: Adult-Focused Communication and Lack of Privacy). Based on our findings, we argue that prevention-focused interventions should include communication-based strategies. We discuss social work and healthcare practice and policy implications of these findings.

Abstract:Purpose: Adolescent and young adult cancer survivors (AYACS) are patients diagnosed with cancer between 15 and 39 years of age. AYACS are often derailed from planned educational and occupational endeavors due to disruption from cancer treatment and its consequences. The study objective was to examine how a personal cancer diagnosis impacted AYACS' experiences related to these endeavors. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted as part of a larger study assessing psychosocial challenges among a younger AYACS subset aged 15-25 years old at the time of cancer diagnosis. Interviews were coded based on responses and were used to develop themes related to educational and occupational endeavors. Results: Data were collected from 35 participants. Five themes emerged: (1) Pauses in educational attainment had a detrimental effect on educational goals for some participants, but further solidified and sculpted educational plans for others; (2) Although participants experienced challenges accomplishing educational goals, supportive school environments helped surmount these challenges; (3) Participants reflected on rethinking career aspirations, though some desired to pursue the same occupation planned before cancer diagnosis; (4) Participants experienced challenges, including physical and cognitive limitations, upon returning to work; and (5) Participants valued autonomy and normalcy through work and appreciated supportive and flexible work environments. Conclusions: AYACS prioritize professional achievement, yet encounter challenges in achieving professional goals. Our findings create a foundation for developing and testing prospective interventions to promote continuance of school and work during cancer treatment when feasible, and proactive reintegration strategies for those who paused professional goals due to cancer treatment.

Abstract:The psychosocial outcomes of adolescents and young adults (AYAs) diagnosed with cancer are poorer compared to their peers without cancer. However, AYAs with cancer from diverse racial and ethnic groups have been under-represented in research, which contributes to an incomplete understanding of the psychosocial outcomes of all AYAs with cancer. This paper evaluated the racial and ethnic representation in research on AYAs diagnosed with cancer using observational, cross-sectional data from the large Young Adults with Cancer in Their Prime (YACPRIME) study. The purpose was to better understand the psychosocial outcomes for those from diverse racial and ethnic groups. A total of 622 participants with a mean age of 34.15 years completed an online survey, including measures of post-traumatic growth, quality of life, psychological distress, and social support. Of this sample, 2% (n = 13) of the participants self-identified as Indigenous, 3% (n = 21) as Asian, 3% (n = 20) as "other," 4% (n = 25) as multi-racial, and 87% (n = 543) as White. A one-way ANOVA indicated a statistically significant difference between racial and ethnic groups in relation to spiritual change, a subscale of post-traumatic growth, F(4,548) = 6.02, p < 0.001. Post hoc analyses showed that those under the "other" category endorsed greater levels of spiritual change than those who identified as multi-racial (p < 0.001, 95% CI = [2.49,7.09]) and those who identified as White (p < 0.001, 95% CI = [1.60,5.04]). Similarly, participants that identified as Indigenous endorsed greater levels of spiritual change than those that identified as White (p = 0.03, 95% CI = [1.16,4.08]) and those that identified as multi-racial (p = 0.005, 95% CI = [1.10,6.07]). We provided an extensive discussion on the challenges and limitations of interpreting these findings, given the unequal and small sample sizes across groups. We concluded by outlining key recommendations for researchers to move towards greater equity, inclusivity, and culturally responsiveness in future work.

Abstract:Records of 8 dogs with drug-associated aplastic anemia were reviewed. Drugs suspected as being causative included estradiol cyclopentylpropionate (3 dogs), phenylbutazone (2 dogs), meclofenamic acid (1 dog), trimethoprim-sulfadiazine and fenbendazole (1 dog), and quinidine (1 dog). Five of the dogs died or were euthanatized. One dog with estrogen-associated aplasia recovered after prolonged treatment. The dogs with trimethoprim-sulfadiazine and quinidine-associated marrow aplasia recovered promptly after treatment was discontinued.
Prevalence and Determinants of Psychological Distress in Adolescent and Young Adult Patients with Cancer: A Multicenter Survey

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the current prevalence and determinants of psychological distress and the association of distress with general information, character strengths, medical coping, and social support in Chinese adolescents and young adults (AYAs) aged 15-39 years with cancer.METHODS: A multicenter survey was carried out. Eight hundred and nine patients completed the Chinese version of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network distress thermometer (DT), the three-dimensional inventory of character strengths, the medical coping modes questionnaire, and the Social Support Rating Scale.RESULTS: The current prevalence of psychological distress in Chinese AYAs with cancer was 83.4%. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that gender, age, educational level, marriage, monthly income, exercise intensity, cancer classifications, treatments, self-control, confrontation, avoidance, and subjective support were all associated with distress. AYA cancer patients who were female, younger, or divorced or had a lower monthly income, education level, or exercise intensity were more likely to have higher level of distress. Compared to AYAs with other cancer classifications, patients with digestive system malignancies, breast cancers, and head and neck malignancies had a higher prevalence of distress. Patients receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy were more likely to be distressed. The higher the self-control, confrontation, avoidance, and subjective support scores were, the lower the prevalence of distress was among AYA cancer patients.CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of psychological distress in AYA cancer patients was relatively high. Potential interventions targeting exercise intensity, character strengths, medical coping, and social support may decrease the prevalence of psychological distress in this patient population.
