Abstract:The electromagnetic wave irradiation has obstructed the precise operation of the high-tech electronic equipment and threatened the health of the bodies during the 5G era. It is critical to develop electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with remarkable shielding effectiveness along with lightweight and flexible properties, while the integrations of the heat management performances have been gradually indispensable, especially in wearable electronic device applications. Anchoring the Ti3C2Tx MXene nanosheets on the surfaces of the recycled carbon fibers (RCF) and assembling heterostructure can be regarded as effective strategies, while simultaneously solving the conductivity reduction and the corresponding performance degradation bottlenecks of the thermal-recycling carbon fiber. The construction of the RCF-MXene paper performs remarkable EMI shielding performance of 45.7 dB, while the specific SE/t can be improved to 7723.85 dB cm2 g-1, along with impressive photothermal and electrothermal conversion abilities. After coating PDMS layers, the flexible RCF-MXene@PDMS film maintains stable EMI shielding performance when experiencing in-situ electrothermal conversion and after 10000-cycle mechanical deformation processes. Exhibiting multifunctionality by facile synthesis strategies, the RCF-MXene-based materials provide great potential as next-generation candidates in wearable electronic devices, together with promoting the advancement of the sustainable reuse of the carbon fibers resources.

Sensitive Micro-Breathing Sensing and Highly-Effective Photothermal Antibacterial Cinnamomum camphora Bark Micro-Structural Cotton Fabric via Electrostatic Self-Assembly of MXene/HACC

Abstract:Natural fabrics are gradually becoming the ideal substrate for flexible smart wearable devices due to their excellent moisture absorption, softness, and skin-friendliness. However, the bonding fastness of the conductive layer and the corresponding durability during service have not yet been well satisfied. In this report, we successfully prepared a smart wearable multifunctional protective cotton fabric with microbreathing monitoring and rapid-photothermal antibacterial abilities of Cinnamomum camphora bark microstructure, by combining chitosan quaternary ammonium salt (HACC) with MXene nanosheets through electrostatic self-assembly. Impressively, MXene nanosheets and HACC established a strong interaction using the electrostatic attraction, endowing the fiber surface with ordered nanosheets. Meanwhile, the fabric decorated with MXene/HACC retains its original characteristics of outstanding breathability and softness, and its conductivity exhibits noticeable stability in terms of resistances to oxidation, washing, various solvents, and long-term bending cycles. On the basis of the principle of adsorption and release of water molecules in the MXene multilayer structures, the MXene/HACC fabric could accurately monitor the physiological health activities of users according to their breathing frequency and depth. Benefiting from the local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) effect, the MXene/HACC shows encouraging photothermal conversion ability, photothermal stability under long time irradiation, washing resistance, and cycle stability. In addition, the fabric achieved an antibacterial efficiency of nearly 100% against Gram-negative Escherichia coli and Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus within 5 min under an irradiation intensity of 400 mW/cm2. More importantly, after 10 washes, the antibacterial efficiency against the two bacteria could still reach 99.975% and 99.98%, respectively. This multifunctional protective MXene/HACC cotton fabric is expected to play a unique role in the new generation of smart wearable microbreathing sensing and against to bacterial attack, and shows a broad application prospect.

Abstract:Developing multifunctional electronic fabrics with sensing capabilities, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and Joule heating performance holds great significance for health monitoring and medical protection. However, most fabrics struggle to combine multiple functions and optimize them simultaneously. For example, achieving both high sensitivity and a wide detection range in sensing devices remains a challenge. In this paper, we present a multidimensional composite structure comprising MXene Ti3C2Tx nano lamellar, self-assembled lotus leaf-like MXene/EGaIn and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) assembled on the surface of thermoplastic polyurethane to create a multifunctional MXene EGaIn/MXene CNT fabric (MEMC fabric). The multidimensional materials form a stable conductive network under tension. As a strain sensor, the MEMC fabric exhibits a large sensing range (0–360%) and ultra-high sensitivity (GF ∼ 114,700), making it suitable for artificial eardrum research. Additionally, MEMC demonstrates excellent EMI shielding effect (∼73 dB) and maintains good EMI shielding performance under tensile conditions. The fabric also showcases outstanding Joule heating performance (low voltage drive ∼2 V, fast heating time ∼13 s, and high heating stability ∼4000 s). This paper also demonstrates the multifunctional combination of MEMC fabrics, achieving simultaneous sensing, EMI shielding, and Joule heating functions under stretching. This work offers a forward-looking approach for constructing multifunctional composite fabrics, and the resulting MEMC composite materials hold potential applications in portable electronic devices and defense industries.

Abstract:MXene-based composite films are regarded as up-and-coming multifunctional electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. However, the conflict between strong mechanical properties and high electrical conductivity hinders their application in modern integrated electronics. Herein, in virtue of density-induced sedimentation, robust and multifunctional liquid metals-reinforced cellulose nanofibers (CNF)/MXene (LMs-CNF/MXene) composite films with Janus structure are fabricated by one-step vacuumassisted filtration method. Not only does the nacre-like structure of the CNF/MXene layer not destroy, but the deposited liquid metals (LMs) layer can serve as conductive potentiation. Due to the special Janus structure, an "absorption-reflection-reabsorption" shielding process is created in LMs-CNF/MXene composite film to strengthen EMI shielding performance. Its shielding effectiveness can reach 51.9 dB at similar to 27 mu m, and the reflection coefficient falls to 0.89, below those of reported MXene-based shielding films. Meanwhile, the CNF/MXene layer can endow composite films with excellent mechanical properties with a super tensile strength of 110.3 MPa. Notably, the LMs-CNF/MXene EMI shielding composite films also integrate outstanding photo-/electrothermal conversion performances, which can effectively deice outdoors. The robust LMs-CNF/MXene EMI shielding composite films with satisfying photo-/electrothermal performances have extensive application prospects, such as aerospace, wearable electronics, and portable electronics. Abstract:Pathogenic infections pose a major threat to global public health, and what's worse is that the bacteria in infected places often exist in the form of biofilms, making it impossible for antibiotics and other contact bactericidal substances to penetrate their interior. Therefore, looking for an effective method with synergistic antibacterial and biofilm removal properties is a key challenge. A kind of magnetic MXene@Fe3O4/PDA nanosheets with antibacterial properties of photothermal magnetic coupling are reported in this paper. Fe3O4 was grown in situ on MXene nanosheets and then coated with a layer of polydopamine (PDA). MXene@Fe3O4/PDA nanosheet (120 μg/mL) showed an over 95% inhibition rate against E. coli and S. aureus under 808 nm laser irradiation. In addition, peroxidase-like activity can produce reactive oxygen species. The photothermal antibacterial properties were further enhanced under the action of rotating magnetic field. The antibacterial activity was increased to close to 99.99%, and the removal effect of biofilm was also very good. The photothermal and magnetic coupled antibacterial effects can reduce the amount of MXene@Fe3O4/PDA, thus it is expected to reduce the damage caused by overheating normal tissues and is safer than pure photothermal therapy.
Developing a Multifunctional Silk Fabric with Dual-Driven Heating and Rapid Photothermal Antibacterial Abilities Using High-Yield MXene Dispersions

Abstract:Two-dimensional material titanium carbide (Ti3C2Tx MXene) has been widely used for building diverse functional materials; however, the disadvantages of unsatisfactory yield and low concentration during the preparation process generally limit its large-scale promotion. In the present work, an MXene dispersion with enhanced yield (90%), high concentration (45 mg/mL), and excellent dispersibility was successfully prepared. Subsequently, the active MXene nanosheets were effectively in situ deposition onto the silk fiber by means of dip-coating, relying on van der Waals forces and hydrogen bonds. The obtained MXene-decorated silk fabric () exhibits satisfactory electrical conductivity (170 mS/cm), excellent photothermal and electrothermal conversion properties, especially dual-drive energy conversion, rapid thermal responses, and long-term functional stability. Furthermore, UV protection factor of the fabric, and its antibacterial efficiency against Gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli) within 20 min of contact reach over 110 and 99%, respectively, demonstrating remarkable UV resistance and rapid photothermal antibacterial ability. Meanwhile, the fabric of still retains the original characteristics of breathability, softness, and skin-friendly properties compared to the untreated. Abstract:MXene is a two-dimensional material for preparing wearable electronic textiles. However, maintaining the conductivity, stability, and comfort of MXene-based functional textiles in humid air or water is a key challenge. In this work, the active adsorption sites on cotton fabric surfaces were increased by low-temperature micro-dissolution. It also enhances the bonding ability of MXene with cotton fabrics by using polydopamine (PDA) as an interface agent. Finally, 1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorooctyltriethoxysilane (PFOTES) was impregnated on the surface of the cotton fabric modified by MXene, which effectively avoided the oxidation of MXene while imparting good hydrophobic properties to the fabric. The composite conductive fabric shows excellent electro/photothermal performance. Driven by low voltage, the surface temperature of the fabric can reach 140 °C within 30 s. After 20 s of irradiation by a 250 W infrared lamp, the surface of the fabric can rapidly warm to 110 °C. The fabric shows excellent EMI shielding performance, with an EMI shielding effect of 32 dB at 8–12 GHz. In addition, the fabric exhibits good sensing stability and fast response and recovery in stress sensing. This material has a simple preparation process, diverse functional characteristics, and great potential in the next generation of intelligent wearable electronic products.

Flexible and Waterproof 2D/1D/0D Construction of MXene-Based Nanocomposites for Electromagnetic Wave Absorption, EMI Shielding, and Photothermal Conversion

Abstract:High-performance electromagnetic wave absorption and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials with multifunctional characters have attracted extensive scientific and technological interest, but they remain a huge challenge. Here, we reported an electrostatic assembly approach for fabricating 2D/1D/0D construction of Ti3C2Tx/carbon nanotubes/Co nanoparticles (Ti3C2Tx/CNTs/Co) nanocomposites with an excellent electromagnetic wave absorption, EMI shielding efficiency, flexibility, hydrophobicity, and photothermal conversion performance. As expected, a strong reflection loss of -85.8 dB and an ultrathin thickness of 1.4 mm were achieved. Meanwhile, the high EMI shielding efficiency reached 110.1 dB. The excellent electromagnetic wave absorption and shielding performances were originated from the charge carriers, electric/magnetic dipole polarization, interfacial polarization, natural resonance, and multiple internal reflections. Moreover, a thin layer of polydimethylsiloxane rendered the hydrophilic hierarchical Ti3C2Tx/CNTs/Co hydrophobic, which can prevent the degradation/oxidation of the MXene in high humidity condition. Interestingly, the Ti3C2Tx/CNTs/Co film exhibited a remarkable photothermal conversion performance with high thermal cycle stability and tenability. Thus, the multifunctional Ti3C2Tx/CNTs/Co nanocomposites possessing a unique blend of outstanding electromagnetic wave absorption and EMI shielding, light-driven heating performance, and flexible water-resistant features were highly promising for the next-generation intelligent electromagnetic attenuation system.<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Highlights</h3><li class="a-plus-plus">The 2D/1D/0D Ti3C2Tx/carbon nanotubes/Co nanocomposite is successfully synthesized via an electrostatic assembly.</li><li class="a-plus-plus">Nanocomposites exhibit an excellent electromagnetic wave absorption and a remarkable electromagnetic interference shielding efficiency.</li><li class="a-plus-plus">The flexible, waterproof, and photothermal conversion performances are achieved.</li>

Abstract:Benefiting from its large specific surface area, abundant defects and functional groups, two-dimensional (2D) laminated Ti3C2Tx MXene is a kind of electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorber with great potential. However, the impedance mismatch caused by the excessive conductivity, inappropriate permittivity and lack of magnetic loss seriously hinders the application of MXene to EMW absorption. Herein, multidimensional hierarchical Ni/TiO2/C nanocomposites composed of three-dimensional (3D) hydrangea-like Ni/C microspheres and well-arranged 2D carbon sheets embedded with TiO2 nanoparticles were successfully fabricated from a Ni-based trimellitic acid framework (Ni-BTC) and Ti3C2Tx MXene via facile in-situ solvothermal assembly and annealing processes. As expected, excellent EMW absorption properties were obtained only by changing the annealing temperature. The minimum reflection loss (RLmin) value of -45.6 dB and the effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 3.40 GHz (14.6-18.0 GHz) with a layer thickness of only 1.5 mm is obtained by annealing the sample at 700 degrees C. The outstanding ternary multilayer structure and the optimization of magnetoelectric synergy in impedance matching jointly create its remarkable EMW absorption performance. This work is expected to provide a simple and effective method to design MXene-based EMW absorbing materials possessing high absorption intensity, light weight, wide EAB and thin thickness.
Magnetically Separable MXene@Fe3O4/Au/PDA Nanosheets with Photothermal-Magnetolytic Coupling Antibacterial Performance

Abstract:Harmful bacteria are common substances in water that endanger human health, so it is urgent to establish a simple system that can tackle these hazardous substances simultaneously. In this work, a novel magnetic MXene@Fe3O4/Au/polydopamine (PDA) nanosheet with excellent photothermal-magnetolytic coupling anti-bacterial performance is developed. MXene, Au and polydopamine all have good photothermal properties, so the photothermal conversion efficiency of the MXene@Fe3O4/Au/PDA nanosheet reaches as high as 48.7%. After 6 min of 808 nm laser irradiation, the MXene@Fe3O4/Au/PDA nanosheets (120 mu g.mL(-1)) can achieve nearly 100% antibacterial effect against Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). In comparison to the sole photothermal treatment, the nanosheet at lower concentration (80 mu g.mL(-1)) also exhibit stronger antibacterial properties against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria during the photothermal-magnetic coupling treatment. The result is mainly because the heat generated by the photothermal effect of the nanosheet is directly transferred to the cell membrane, and the edge of the nanosheet cuts the cytomembrane similar to a magnetic "hot nanoblade ", resulting in subsequent shrinkage, deformation and even rupture.
Facile fabrication of flexible and ultrathin self-assembled Ti3C2T /bacterial cellulose composite films with multifunctional electromagnetic shielding and photothermal conversion performances

Abstract:With the rapid development of modern electronics, the next generation of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials requires ultrathin, lightweight, flexibility and robustness to protect electronic devices from radiation pollution. In this study, the multifunctional Ti3C2T x /Bacterial Cellulose (Ti3C2T x /BC) composite films with uniformly lamellar structures have been developed by combining experimental and theoretical works. The microstructures, mechanical properties, EMI shielding and photothermal conversion performances of Ti3C2T x /BC composite films have been systematically investigated. It is highlighted that the resultant ultrathin and flexible Ti3C2T x /BC composite film with a Ti3C2T x content of 50 wt% exhibits satisfactory tensile strength of 109.6 ± 4.5 MPa, excellent electrical conductivity of 5020 S m−1 and EMI SE value of 43.7 dB. More interestingly, the composite film displays stable and fast-response photothermal characteristics, with the photothermal conversion temperature up to 74.5 ℃. This study proposes a versatile strategy to synthesize multifunctional MXene/BC composite films with satisfactory mechanical properties, high performance EMI shielding and photothermal conversion effects, which shows great potential for the protection of electronic devices.

Abstract:An increasing utilization of flexible healthcare electronics and biomedicine-related therapeutic materials urges the development of multifunctional wearable/flexible smart fabrics for personal therapy and health management. However, it is currently a challenge to fabricate multifunctional and on-body healthcare electronic devices with reliable mechanical flexibility, excellent breathability, and self-controllable joule heating effects. Here, we fabricate a multifunctional MXene-based smart fabric by depositing 2D Ti3C2Tx nanosheets onto cellulose fiber nonwoven fabric via special MXene–cellulose fiber interactions. Such multifunctional fabrics exhibit sensitive and reversible humidity response upon H2O-induced swelling/contraction of channels between the MXene interlayers, enabling wearable respiration monitoring application. Besides, it can also serve as a low-voltage thermotherapy platform due to its fast and stable electro-thermal response. Interestingly, water molecular extraction induces electrical response upon heating, i.e., functioning as a temperature alarm, which allows for real-time temperature monitoring for thermotherapy platform without low-temperature burn risk. Furthermore, metal-like conductivity of MXene renders the fabric an excellent Joule heating effect, which can moderately kill bacteria surrounding the wound in bacteria-infected wound healing therapy. Abstract:It is highly desirable, but challenging to develop multi-functional electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorbing material for practical applications in some special environments. Herein, we successfully fabricated cobalt-nanoparticle-embedded N-doped carbon nanotube arrays on the carbonized cotton fiber cloth as multifunctional material with an excellent EMW absorption, flexibility, hydrophobicity, and electric-thermal performance. The excellent multifunction benefits from high conductivity, large specific surface area, abundant N dopants, and three-dimensional open porous features. Minimal reflection loss and efficient absorption bandwidth of the optimized material as EMW absorbers can reach − 57.8 dB and 4.5 GHz, respectively, which are better than most reported carbon-based absorbers. Meanwhile, theoretical simulations of the radar cross-sectional (RCS) further confirm that the multifunctional material has excellent EMW attenuation performance and potential in practical application. Moreover, the materials possess strong hydrophobicity and high electrical conductivity, endowing them with other attractive functions of self-cleaning and good electric thermal performance, which expand the potential applications range of EMW absorption materials. Our present method can be extended to design next-generation EMW absorbing materials with multifunctionalities for practical applications in harsh environments.

Abstract:The flourishing development of electronic devices and radar detection technologies necessitates the urgent creation of high-efficiency electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials with expansive absorption bandwidths. Although MXene has garnered significant interest in the domain of EMW absorption due to its tunable dielectric properties and structural designability, its high permittivity often results in poor impedance matching and a single loss mechanism, which makes it difficult to realize optimal EMW absorption capabilities. In this work, CoNi bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) derived bayberry-like magnetic porous carbon (CoNiMPC)@carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/MXene (CNCM) hybrids were initially synthesized via simple solution precipitation, thermal treatment, and electrostatic self-assembly strategy. As anticipated, excellent EMW absorption characteristics were achieved by adjusting the ratio of CoNiMPC@CNTs and MXene. Multi-heterointerfaces consisting of zero-dimensional porous carbon, one-dimensional carbon nanotubes, and two-dimensional (2D) MXene, electrical/magnetic coupling effects, and polarization loss induced by abundant heterointerfaces endow the prepared CNCM hybrids with high-performance EMW absorption. Notably, the CNCM-7 hybrid material exhibits a minimum reflection loss (RLmin) of − 65.3 dB at 6.8 GHz with a mere 2.7 mm thickness and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL < −10 dB) of 5.0 GHz at a thickness of 1.27 mm. This study proposes a unique viewpoint and approach towards the design and preparing high-performance MXene-based EMW absorption materials.

Abstract:Air-permeable and flexible multifunctional textiles are highly desired for wearable electronics and portable device applications. However, fabricating textiles with novel multifunctionalities while maintaining their inherent porous and flexible characteristics still remains a challenge. Herein, a range of organic-inorganic hybrid materials were prepared via a surface engineering approach in an attempt to create air-permeable and flexible multifunctional cellulose-based textiles with superb bactericidal activities, thermal heating conversion, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding performances. The highly conductive MXene was decorated onto the polydopamine (PDA) modified cellulose nonwovens, followed by in-situ polymerization of glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). The resultant PGMA facilitated the covalently grafting of disinfecting agents and also protected the MXene from oxidation. The disinfecting agents, i.e., neomycin sulfate or guanidine-based polymer, rendered the textiles highly biocidal. The smart textile possesses excellent bactericidal efficacy of > 99.99% against both E. coli and S. aureus, exceptional heating performance (dual-driven energy conversion, fast thermal response, and wide temperature range), and outstanding EMI shielding efficiency of 38.6 dB in the X-band, while maintaining the satisfactory porosity and flexibility of green-based nonwovens. Evidently, such wearable multifunctional textiles are extremely promising for applications in bio-protection, thermal management, and EMI shielding, and are ideal candidates for future intelligent garments and healthcare devices.

Abstract:The proliferation of drug-resistant bacteria and infections such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) posed a serious challenge to global healthcare. Photothermal therapy (PTT) is becoming a highly effective antimicrobial method. Compared with near infrared I (NIR-I), near infrared II (NIR-II) has deeper penetration depth, less light scattering and higher maximum permissible exposure (MPE). The selection of photothermal agent (PTA) and laser parameters is important. Three kinds of MXenes, Nb2C, Ti3C2 and V2C, were prepared in this paper, and the extinction coefficient and photothermal conversion efficiency (PCE) of NIR-I and NIR-II were compared. The extinction coefficient of Ti3C2 (26.23 L/g·cm) at 808 nm was greater than Nb2C (24.38 L/g·cm) and V2C (19.43 L/g·cm). However, V2C had a higher temperature than Nb2C at 808 nm due to its high PCE ( 49.26%). Nb2C had higher extinction coefficient (24.99 L/g·cm) and PCE (45.55%) at 1064 nm, resulted in the highest temperature change. High extinction coefficient and high PCE are the two important factors for excellent PTA. To reduce laser power used in the treatment, NIR-II laser and gelation strategy for MXenes were used. The prepared Nb2C/Gel could be rapidly heated to 62°C at a laser power of 0.112 W (lower than MPE), the sterilization rate for MRSA was 92.48%. NIH-3T3 cell activity study showed that the prepared Nb2C had good biocompatibility. Nb2C/Gel had excellent antibacterial properties and is expected to establish a rapid, efficient and safe biological antimicrobial strategy against bacterial infections, especially drug-resistant bacteria infections.

Abstract:With the continuous development of the society, there is a growing demand for the durability, versatility and multifunction of cott fabrics. In this work, the cotton fabric is coated with multifunctional coating via dip-coating of transition metal carbide (MXene) and then encapsulation of dimethyloctadecyl [3-trimethoxysilopropyl] ammonium chloride (QAS). In view of MXene with excellent light absorption and photothermal conversion efficiency, the controllable antibacterial performance of the cotton fabric is further improved. Benefiting from the encapsulation of QAS, CF@P@M@QAS fabric shows mechanical stability (24 h washing, 1000 cycles folding test and 100 cyclic abrasion) and hydrophobicity. Meantime, the QAS on the surface of multifunctional cotton fabric significantly increases antibacterial activity, and the antibacterial rate can reach to 100 % against Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) and 98 % Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) Besides, CF@P@M@QAS cotton fabric also integrates functions of fire safety and physical therapy. Thus, this multifunctional cotton fabric based MXene offers a novel solution for extending its application in medical electronics and physical therapy.

Abstract:2D intercalation structure MXene/CoFe@C is prepared via simple intercalation growth nucleation engineering. It shows excellent hydrophobicity, anti‐corrosion capacity, and electromagnetic wave absorption performance, making it to be used in complex natural environment. Moreover, the anti‐corrosion mechanism is deeply analyzed by equivalent circuit, and non‐linear least square fitting method is used to further quantitatively explain the electromagnetic wave loss mechanism. MXene, a highly regarded material, has garnered significant attention within the electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption field. However, the practical application of MXene is limited in harsh environments. Herein, a magic technique strategy of intercalation growth nucleation engineering is employed to prepare multifunctional MXene‐based EMW absorption materials. By regularly introducing different metal ions between the layers of MXene, an ultrathin absorber can be achieved by annealing after reacting in specific positions. The synthesized MCFC‐69‐8 shows hydrophobicity properties and exhibits a large charge‐transfer resistance of 18112 Ω cm2 with a low corrosion rate and corrosion rate, indicating a good anti‐corrosion property. Through applying a series of mathematical methods, MCFC‐69‐8 shows 25% relaxation polarization loss and 75% conduction loss, and its relaxation time is linked with the specific type of relaxation polarization loss, resulting in an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 4.9 GHz with an ultra‐thin optimal matching thickness of 1.48 mm. Finally, an absorber is built using CST to attain an ultrabroad EAB covering 2–18 GHz. This engineering not only simplifies the intercalation process but also achieves a high‐performance and anti‐corrosion EMW absorber, providing a valuable perception for realizing thinner MXene‐based EMW absorbers in the future.

Abstract:Metal Cu nanoparticles have been recognized as the long-standing presence in the fields of antibacterial and low-induced bacterial resistance, however, the uncontrollable Cu ion concentration from Cu nanoparticle leads to the unstable release of copper ions, limiting their controllable antibacterial application. Based on stable release of copper ions from Cu@C nanocapsules, herein, we report a novel A/B/C structure Cu@C@Fe3O4 nanocomposite to present integrated functionalities of highly controllable antibiosis and electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption to realize a bifunctional EMW absorption system. With stable concentration, the Cu@C@Fe3O4 nanocomposite can slowly release Cu ions to experience an efficient reactive oxygen species process to realize extreme stable antibiosis behavior and long-term antibacterial effect that is 100 % bactericidal effect. With the sustained antibacterial conditions, the Cu@C@Fe3O4 with magnetic component simultaneously exhibits a good impedance matching to lead a broad microwave absorption with a bandwidth of 5.87 GHz. Considering above two functions, the multifunctional Cu@C@Fe3O4 provides a pathway for multifunctional EMW absorption materials exploration in antibacterial and microwave absorption applications. This strategy also indicates the possibility to functionalize magnetic nanocapsules towards even broader applications.
