Abstract:BACKGROUND:The number of global hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) survivors is increasing rapidly. Survivors encounter many challenges, but studies regarding survivorship experiences in China are scarce.OBJECTIVES:This study aimed to explore the survivorship experiences of Chinese patients with hematological cancers after HSCT and to describe the impact of HSCT on the survivors' lives.METHODS:Descriptive qualitative research was used. Purposive sampling was used to recruit HSCT survivors who were treated in a teaching hospital in Zhejiang Province from June 2021 to June 2022. Audio-recorded semistructured interviews were conducted, transcribed verbatim, and analyzed via conventional content analysis.RESULTS:Fifteen HSCT survivors aged 18 to 59 years participated in this study. Four themes and 11 subthemes emerged: (1) transplant being harder than you thought (body function impaired, forced to modify diet, disturbed by survivorship uncertainty), (2) difficulty blending into circles (limited activity space, suffering from discrimination), (3) adjusting value judgment (health being a top priority, contributing to family as much as possible, feeling worthless), and (4) still being the lucky one (recovered better than others, genuine relationships acquired, self-improvement achieved).CONCLUSION:This study offers insight into subjective survivorship experiences of patients with hematological cancers post-HSCT within a Chinese sociocultural context and presents changed perceptions of HSCT, life alterations, adjusted value judgments, and positive self-evaluation since treatment.IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE:Nurses can provide person-centered survivorship care based on the understanding of survivorship experiences of Chinese HSCT survivors. Intervention programs and informational materials should be developed to address difficulties encountered by Chinese HSCT survivors.
Psychological states and needs among post-allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation survivors

Abstract:Objectives: To analyze psychological states and needs of patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). Methods: Questionnaires were sent to 101 allo-HSCT survivors and 96 questionnaires were returned. The questionnaire covered several categories: (1) demographics and general information, (2) physical conditions, (3) psychologic status and sleep quality, (4) survivor's comments on transplantation, (5) demands and needs, (6) preferred forms and channels of information. Results: Depression and poor sleep quality were major concerns troubling allo-HSCT survivors. A notable discrepancy exists between clinically diagnosed depression (4.2%) and self- reported depression based on BDI-13 (55.2%). Young adults (18-49 years old), chronic graft-versus-host disease, the ECOG performance score of 2-4, surviving within 5 years since HSCT, no or low dose of ATG used and being single were significantly associated with self-reported depression. Based on the PSQI score, 75% of survivors experienced varying degrees of sleep quality impairment. Young adults, chronic GVHD and the ECOG score of 2-4 were significantly associated with worse sleep quality. The majority of patients reported unmet needs on physical and psychosocial aspects. Nutrition information was the most important topic, followed by disease treatments and fatigue. Differences in informational needs were found in the survivors according to age, time since HSCT and gender. WeChat public account and WeChat applet, mobile interactive platform and one-to-one conversation were the favorite channel for information. Conclusions: Clinicians should establish more appropriate survivorship care plans focusing on survivors' psychologic states, demands and needs.
Anxiety, depression, and mental health-related quality of life in survivors of pediatric allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: a systematic review

Abstract:Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) has become increasingly used as a therapeutic treatment for several pediatric conditions, however the long-term mental health sequelae remain understudied among these survivors. Our objective was to conduct a systematic literature review to determine the association between allo-HSCT and anxiety, depression, and psychological health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in pediatric allo-HSCT recipients compared to survivors of pediatric cancer or healthy children. A literature search of peer-reviewed databases was conducted. Data extraction was conducted using a standardized form. Due to the heterogeneity in studies, populations, and measurement instruments, only a qualitative synthesis was performed. A total of 24 studies met eligibility criteria. Rates of anxiety and depression were higher among survivors of pediatric allo-HSCT compared to population normal values or children treated for health conditions without allo-HSCT. Most allo-HSCT survivors self-reported psychological HRQOL within normal levels, although some studies in leukemia patients identified poorer psychological HRQOL. The presence of multiple chronic health conditions, chronic graft-versus-host-disease, and patient sex were important risk factors for worse mental health. Patients who receive allo-HSCT during childhood experience subsequent anxiety, depression, and poorer psychological HRQOL after transplant and several clinical characteristics contribute to these mental health sequelae.

Abstract:Aim To explore the symptom experience and self-management strategies of adults undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation after hospital discharge. Methods A longitudinal qualitative study was employed. A heterogeneous sample of 22 patients who underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation from August 2022 to April 2023 were included. Semi-structured interviews were conducted at three time points post-discharge and provided a dataset of 56 interviews. The content analysis method was used for manual analysis. This study followed the COREQ checklist. Results The data from this study were categorized into four themes and 14 subthemes: (1) complexity and multidimensionality of symptom experience: diversity, dynamism, continuity, relatedness, and functional loading; (2) multiple variations in symptom self-management; (3) barriers to symptom self-management: limited access to information resources, insufficient awareness and skills in symptom self-management, lack of economic and social support, and difficulties in medical visits and reviews; and (4) facilitators of symptom self-management: perceived benefits, experience-driven, and peer experiences. Conclusion Patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation experience multiple and complex symptom experiences after hospital discharge, and their symptom self-management remains challenging. The findings underscore the necessity for healthcare professionals to regularly and consistently evaluate the symptoms and self-management practices of patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and execute focused interventions to alleviate their symptom load and enhance their long-term well-being.

Abstract:Purpose/Objectives: To explore the experiences in sexual health among women after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).Research Approach: A qualitative phenomenologic approach was used to explore sexual health after HSCT.Setting: The leukemia and bone marrow transplantation outpatient clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.Participants: This study included five women aged 18 years or older with a prior diagnosis of leukemia or lymphoma requiring HSCT who were at least three months post-HSCT and were sexually active prior to HSCT. Participants did not experience menopause pre-HSCT and did not show signs of relapsed disease or vaginal graft-versus-host disease.Methodologic Approach: A semistructured interview was conducted and included one open-ended question regarding sexual health after participants' HSCT and several follow-up questions. The interviews were audio recorded without participant identifiers. Interviews were then transcribed and analyzed. Primary investigators and an expert reviewer analyzed data using content analysis to identify themes from the interviews.Findings: Six themes emerged from the interviews: (a) relationship changes, (b) significant and concerning physical changes, (c) sense of loss and powerful emotional impact, (d) fatigue, (e) body image, and (f) educational needs.Conclusions: Findings portray women's experiences in sexual health post-HSCT and demonstrate the emotional and physical consequences that arise from HSCT-related complications. A need exists for greater support and education for women regarding sexual health post-HSCT, as well as improved education among clinicians regarding sexual health complications experienced by this population. Women articulated their desire for same-sex providers to educate them on the sexual health side effects of HSCT.Interpretation: Sexual health education is needed immediately prior to and following HSCT. Implications for practice include designating time for pre-and post-HSCT education, improving current sexual health education provided by HSCT clinicians, engaging same-sex providers to discuss sexual health with patients, and increasing nurses' expertise in this area.

Abstract:Introduction: Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation (ASCT) and, consequently, the chronicity associated with this life event have a growing prevalence and a significant impact on the life and daily life of each person who experiences it. It is necessary to reflect on the care needs of this group of vulnerable people. Comfort is a concern, and its improvement is a desired outcome of healthcare. To achieve this, it is necessary to know the needs of the people who are the focus of care. Aim: This paper aims to understand the needs of comfort care in the lived experience of comfort for survivors of ASCT. Methodology: Qualitative approach using van Manen's phenomenology of practice. We uncovered the phenomenon through phenomenological interviews, which integrated narratives and illustrative episodes that reflected the lived experience of 20 survivors. Participants in the study were people who had undergone allogeneic hematopoietic progenitor cell transplantation, who were monitored on an outpatient basis and who met the following conditions: (i) were over 18 years old; (ii) had undergone SCT at least 3 months previously; (iii) had no evidence of disease relapse; (iv) were able to express themselves verbally, providing information relevant to the study, as well as expressing emotions and feelings. Descriptions of lived experiences were collected from participants between July 2020 and May 2021. In the phenomenological reflection on the lived descriptions, we followed the "stages" epoché, reduction, and vocative. Results: The following themes emerged from the ASCT survivor's lived experience of comfort related to comfort care needs: continuous follow-up, reference nurse, information, assistance in adapting to the new self, mental health intervention, spiritual support, adaptation to changes in sexuality, physical rehabilitation, and job reintegration. Conclusion: This study reveals the importance of continuous follow-up for ASCT survivors. Survivors experience major changes in their lives in the long term and require a response from health professionals to find comfort in their daily lives.

Prospective Association of Psychological Distress and Sexual Quality of Life Among Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Survivors

Abstract:Sexual health concerns are one of the most common late effects facing hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) survivors. The current study tested whether self-reported depression and anxiety symptoms before transplant were associated with embedded items assessing two specific areas of sexual health—sexual interest and sexual satisfaction—one year post-HSCT. Of the 158 study participants, 41% were diagnosed with a plasma cell disorder ( n = 60) and most received autologous transplantation ( n = 128; 81%). At post-HSCT, 21% of participants reported they were not at all satisfied with their sex life, and 22% were not at all interested in sex. Greater pre-HSCT depressive symptomology was significantly predictive of lower sexual interest (β = −.27, p < .001) and satisfaction (β = −.39, p < .001) at post-HSCT. Similarly, greater pre-HSCT trait anxiety was significantly predictive of lower sexual interest (β = −.19, p = .02) whereas higher levels of state and trait anxiety were both predictive of lower satisfaction (β = −.22, p = .02 and β = −.29, p = .001, respectively). Participant sex significantly moderated the relationship between state anxiety and sexual satisfaction ( b = −.05, t = −2.03, p = .04). Additional research examining the factors that contribute to sexual health post-HCST is needed to inform and implement clinical interventions to address these commonly overlooked survivorship concerns.

Abstract:Background The correlation between social support and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has been well documented, but whether social support changes or whether social support consistently plays a significant role in the various phases of the treatment process remains unknown among hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) patients. Objectives The aims of this study were to assess the changing trends of HRQOL and social support and evaluate the relationship between HRQOL and social support before and after transplantation. Methods Measures were completed by 122 HSCT patients before and after transplantation. The measures administered included the Perceived Social Support Scale and the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–Bone Marrow Transplant questionnaire. Results The social support score presented a marked downward trend ( F = 17.090, P < .001). The overall HRQOL was the lowest, 103.61 (SD, 19.14) at 1 month and increased steadily over time to 108.10 (SD, 19.58) at 3 months and 110.02 (SD, 18.00) at 6 months after HSCT. The generalized estimating equation models showed that social support consistently had a positive impact on HRQOL in the 6-month period post-HSCT. Conclusion We confirmed a significant positive association between social support and HRQOL in HSCT recipients. However, it is noteworthy that the social support score declined during the 6-month period even while the HRQOL scores were increasing. Implications for Practice Social support is closely related to the HRQOL; thus, clinicians should give close attention to social support to improve the HRQOL of HSCT patients. Social support should not be overlooked during the first 6 months after transplantation.

Survival and Late Mortality among Patients Who Survived Disease-Free for 2 Years after Stem Cell Transplantation.

Abstract:Most events that limit life expectancy after allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) occur within the first 2 years; however, treatment outcomes in long-term survivors who survive for at least 2 years post-HSCT without relapse are yet to be elucidated. To explore the life expectancy trends and late complications and to assess the main mortality-related factors, we investigated the characteristics of patients who received allo-HSCT for haematological malignancies from 2007 to 2019 in our centre and survived in remission for 2 years. A cohort of 831 patients was enrolled; of these, 508 received grafts from haploidentical-related donors (61.1%). The estimated overall survival rate at 10 years was 91.9% (95% confidence interval [CI], 89.8-93.5), which was affected by prior grade III-IV acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) (hazard ratio [HR], 2.98; 95% CI, 1.47-6.03; p = 0.002) and severe chronic GVHD (HR, 3.60; 95% CI, 1.93-6.71; p < 0.001). The probability of late relapse and non-relapse mortality at 10 years was 8.7% (95% CI, 6.9-10.8) and 3.6% (95% CI, 2.5-5.1) respectively. The top cause of late mortality was relapsed (49.0%). Projected long-term survival in 2-year disease-free survivors following allo-HSCT was excellent. Strategies should be implemented to minimise the late death-specific hazards in recipients.
Patient and Physician Communication in the Allogeneic Transplantation Setting: Challenges and Potential Solutions

Abstract:Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation is a challenging treatment characterized by multiple morbidities, the need for long-term care, and a significant mortality risk. Consequently, close patient and physician communication throughout treatment is crucial. We aimed to review the literature examining patient and physician communication around critical aspects experienced by allogeneic survivors over the transplantation trajectory, such as the informed consent process, transplantation-related morbidity (eg, psychosocial distress, cognitive dysfunction, sexuality), adherence to treatment, and the use of complementary and alternative medicine, as well as interventions and strategies to improve patient and physician communication. We found a paucity of studies examining communication on these topics. Nevertheless, there is evidence of significant communication gaps around morbidities often experienced by allogeneic survivors, such as psychosocial distress, fatigue, and sexual functioning, due to both patient and physician barriers. Similarly, there is a concern that gaps also exist when addressing the informed consent process, cognitive dysfunction, adherence to treatment, and use of complementary and alternative medicine. The use and discussion of patient-reported outcome measures as part of clinical care is associated with patient and physician satisfaction with communication and better detection and management of symptoms. Although other strategies, such as decision aids, question prompt lists, and communication skills training, have improved communication in oncology, they have not been tested in the allogeneic setting. Future research is clearly needed to examine patient and physician communication in the allogeneic transplantation setting and test strategies to improve communication during this challenging treatment.
Quality of Life of Hematological Neoplasm Survivors After Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

Abstract:Purpose: This study aimed to assess changes in the quality of life (QoL) of patients with hematological neoplasms who underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), identify factors influencing these changes, and quantify the associated monetary value. Methods: A total of 122 hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients participated in the study completing a recall survey with questions about 3 different stages: (1) pre-HSCT (baseline), (2) 6 months post-transplantation, and (3) between the first and fifth post-transplantation years. The study first estimated the incremental variation in QoL between phases and conducted regression analyses to identify factors linked to QoL changes. Second, it explored the transition probabilities of QoL between phases and their monetary value. Results: Baseline QoL predominantly determined future QoL changes, with disease type, transplantation type, and other sociodemographic factors proving insignificant. Notably, patients with the lowest baseline QoL experienced greater QoL improvement post-HSCT compared to others. Specifically, 90% of patients elevated their QoL quartile within the first post-transplantation year, with over 20% reaching the highest quartile and an average QoL increase of 0.619. The incremental economic benefit for patients with poor baseline QoL, compared to those with high baseline QoL, was 56,880€. Conclusion: This study provides new, useful, and relevant information on the evolution of the QoL of these patients. Our findings support that HSCT significantly enhances QoL for survivors with initially low QoL, while those with high pre-HSCT QoL maintain their levels. Furthermore, other factors were not significant contributors to this relationship. The study introduced a novel method to measure the economic benefit of incremental QoL.
[Activity of neutral endopeptidase in serum of patients with primary biliary cirrhosis].

Abstract:Neutral endopeptidase (neprilysin; EC 3.4.24.11) is present in the brush border membrane, for example in the bile ducts. We investigated serum neprilysin activity and its correlation with cholestatic markers in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis. Sera of 39 patients with primary biliary cirrhosis (37 females, 2 males, mean age 45 years, range 24-71 years) were investigated. Twenty-seven healthy volunteer subjects served as control. Serum neprilysin activity was measured by a sensitive microplate-based continuous monitoring kinetic assay. Succinyl-alanyl-alanyl-phenyl-alanyl-4- nitroanilide was used as substrate. For statistical analysis Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA by ranks and Mann-Whitney U test were used. The neprilysin activities were significantly higher in stages III (mean 13.2 +/- SD 10.8 U/l) and IV (21.8 +/- 17.5) than in the control subjects (2.4 +/- 2.9, p < 0.01). There was no significant difference in neprilysin activity between the patients with stages I and II, or between stage I + II (2.88 +/- 3.0) and the control. Positive correlation was found between the activity of neprilysin and serum bilirubin, alkaline-phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl-transferase (p < 0.005 for each). In this study we confirmed that serum neprilysin activity is elevated in patients with primary biliary cirrhosis at advanced stages and the elevation correlated with the cholestatic markers. The increased neprilysin activity seems to be an indicator for the severity and progression of the disease.
Outcomes of a Formal Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Survivorship Program on Screening for Late Effects

Abstract:Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) survivors may benefit from routine screening for post-transplant complications. However, the impact of formal survivorship efforts to promote screening adherence is uncertain. The effect of a formal HCT survivorship program to promote screening adherence was evaluated. We conducted a retrospective analysis of an academic formal HCT survivorship program with primary and specialty consult components. We included patients who underwent allogeneic HCT and were alive and relapse-free 1-year post-HCT. We excluded patients who died <2-year post-HCT or transferred care. We measured screening adherence to cardiovascular, pulmonary, ocular, secondary cancer, and endocrine evaluations. The primary outcome was proportion of patients completing ≥1 evaluation per screening domain prior to 2-year post-HCT. We examined screening adherence during 3 time periods: presurvivorship (2012 to 2014) and 2 postsurvivorship (2016 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021) using multivariate logistic and Cox proportional hazards regression. Four hundred ten patients (2012 to 2014: n = 136, 2016 to 2018: n = 153, 2019 to 2021: n = 121) were included. Compared to the presurvivorship period (16.9%), patients in 2016 to 2018 (47.7%, odds ratio [OR] = 4.9, P < .0001) and 2019 to 2021 (34.7%, OR = 2.7, P = .001) were more likely to complete ≥1 evaluation per screening domain. Except for pulmonary function tests in 2019 to 2021, median time to completion of survivorship evaluations was shorter in the survivorship periods compared to presurvivorship. Patients who completed a formal HCT survivorship consult in 2016 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021 were more likely to complete ≥1 evaluation per screening domain (OR = 5.1, P = .0004). Survivorship consult had similar effect on the primary screening outcome in 2016 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021 (consult × time interaction OR: 2.5, P = .2). However, patients who received a consult in 2019 to 2021 were more likely to complete all screenings (consult × time interaction: OR = 5.7, P = .03). Our HCT survivorship program with primary and specialty components improved screening adherence. Additional studies are needed to evaluate efficacy, dissemination, and implementation of formal HCT survivorship programs.
Long-term survivors demonstrate superior quality of life after haploidentical stem cell transplantation to matched sibling donor transplantation

Abstract:Objective: This study explores the unmet psychosocial rehabilitation needs of cancer survivors.Methods: Sixty-eight cancer survivors from the Shanghai Cancer Rehabilitation Club in China participated in one of the eight focus groups. These were transcribed verbatim, coded using thematic analysis and analysed using NVivo 10.Results: Five main themes were identified: the need for (1) better information: Chinese cancer survivors find it difficult to sort and evaluate the overwhelming mass of information with which they are confronted; (2) psychological support: survivors fear cancer relapse and neighbours' discrimination against them; support from other cancer survivors can relieve the stress; (3) support for survivors' families: like the survivors, family members are under great hut usually unacknowledged pressure; (4) improved health and medical services: community health service centres provide little medical, informational or psychological support for cancer survivors, who seek and expect more communication with doctors; and (5) assistance with the financial burden: costs of treatment and lack of adequate medical insurance cause substantial financial pressure for survivors.Conclusions: This study shows that, in addition to their illness, Chinese cancer survivors experience a range of stresses related to their financial circumstances, lack of reliable and summarised information, poor access to support and services (including for their families) and discrimination. Support from families seems to improve survivors' ability to cope. Cancer survivors (and their families) need an integrated package of support from their families, doctors and other service providers, hospitals and communities. Comparison of Three Diagnostic Tests for Dirofilaria Immitis in a Low-Incidence Area

Abstract:was obtained, tests were repeated by a different technologist. Microfilaria identification using the alkaline phosphatase technique was done to differentiate between D. immitis and Dipetalonema reconditum on all samples in which microfilariae were observed. Clinical follow-up was obtained for 11 of the 12 dogs that had any positive test result by reviewing the medical record or discussing the case with the clinician. The results of the laboratory tests are summarized in Table 1. Samples from 1,347/1,359 dogs (99.12% of samples submitted) were negative for microfilariae and adult D. immitis antigen using both commercial kits. Microfilariae, subsequently identified as D. immitis, were observed in blood samples from 7 dogs. Four of these dogs also had adult D. immitis antigen detected by both kits. Two microfilaremic dogs were negative for D. immitis adult antigen with both kits. Blood from 1 dog that was positive for microfilariae was serologically positive for adult antigen with only 1 of the commercial kits. Five dogs were serologically positive for adult D. immitis antigen but negative for microfilariae. The 5 dogs that had positive tests for adult D. immitis antigen but negative filter tests were considered otherwise healthy. They had no evidence of circulatory or respiratory compromise. Adulticide treatment was recommended for each of these dogs, but owners chose to administer ivermectin or milbemycin oxime monthly to their pets. Owners were advised to observe their dogs carefully and to restrict their pets’ exercise for at least 2 days following the administration of the monthly heartworm preventative. Adverse reactions were not reported in any of these dogs. Six of the 7 dogs that tested positive for D. immitis microfilariae underwent treatment for the elimination of adult D. immitis and microfilariae, regardless of the results of the adult antigen test. Additional information could not be obtained for 1 dog that was positive on all 3 tests. Treatment in 1 dog that had positive results with all 3 tests was initiated as an emergency procedure when the dog developed acute respiratory distress. Two dogs that were microfilaremic were adult antigen negative using both kits, and 1 microfilaremic dog was antigen negative with 1 kit but antigen positive with the other. Such results are likely to occur if the adult worm burden is low. In these cases, the sensitivity of the tests for detection of adult antigen is decreased. 2,3,6,8,9 Based on physical examination and radiographs, the clinicians strongly suspected that 2 of these 3 dogs had few adult D. immitis in their right ventricles, and the dogs were treated with adulticides before beginning preventative therapy. The presence of adult D. immitis infection in the right ventricle in the third dog was questionable, yet the owner preferred to have the dog treated with adulticide before preventative therapy was begun. Abstract:While HSCT continues to remain a promising form of treatment and advances in transplant medicine have led to reduced morbidity and mortality from HSCT, HRQOL remains an important consideration. Our study suggests that addressing possibly modifiable psychological risk factors prior to and/or during recovery from HSCT has the potential to improve this important aspect of patient experience during transplant and also health outcomes. Aim The aim of study was to investigate whether depression and anxiety symptoms and illness perception prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) predict health related quality of life (HRQOL) at Day 100 and 1 year following HSCT. Methods A total of 205 patients who underwent HSCT (N = 127 autologous transplants, N = 78 allogeneic transplants) were included in this prospective study. Baseline assessment was assessed prior to transplantation and post HSCT data were collected at Day 100 and 1 year. At baseline we assessed depressive symptoms (Patient Health Questionnaire‐9), anxiety symptoms (Generalized Anxiety Disorder‐7), illness perception (Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire), and HRQOL (Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy‐BMT). Results Patients who expressed a greater level of concern about the severity, course, and ability to exert control over one's illness (i.e., illness perception) and who reported a greater level of depression and anxiety symptoms prior to HSCT reported lower HRQOL at both Day 100 and 1 year posttransplant, with a similar degree of association observed at the two follow‐up time points. Conclusions Our findings suggest that pretransplant perceptions about their illness and negative mood are significant predictors of HRQOL following HSCT. Illness perception, depression, and anxiety are potentially modifiable risk factors for less than optimal outcome after HCSCT and intervention strategies should be explored.

Abstract:Objective:To systematically evaluate the qualitative researches on the real psychological experience and coping of patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation during their stay in the laminar flow room, and provide reference for nursing staff to provide supportive care.Methods:The Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, CNKI, China Biology Medicine disc, Wanfang and other Chinese and English databases were searched for qualitative research on the psychological experience of patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation during their stay in the laminar flow room. The quality of the included studies was evaluated using the Australian JBI Evidence-based Health Care Center Qualitative Research Quality Evaluation Standard (2016) , and the research results were integrated using the pooled integration method.Results:A total of 15 literatures were included, and 99 results were extracted. They were summarized into 9 new categories and summarized into 3 integrated results, which were the imbalance of the external environment after admission of patients with hematopoietic stem cell transplantation to the laminar flow room, the real experience of hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients after being admitted to the laminar flow room, and the coping strategies for psychological changes after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation patients are admitted to the laminar flow room.Conclusions:The imbalance of the external environment is the main reason for the negative psychological experience of hematopoietic stem cell transplant patients after they are admitted to the laminar flow room. Nursing staff need to accurately identify complex emotions of the patients and provide professional guidance and support to help patients reduce negative emotions.
Performance of phosphonates as copper(II) ions stabilization agents for industrial water systems

Abstract:Copper(II) salts have long been used to kill algae in water systems, but they can precipitate as insoluble salts and form deposits on equipment surface. It is important to remove toxic metal from industrial waste because of contamination and toxicity issues. This paper discusses the testing and effects of various phosphonates to control copper-based fouling in the industrial water systems. It has been found that Cu(II) ions stabilization (complexation, precipitation, dispersion, etc.) strongly depends on solution pH, reaction time, and phosphonate concentration. Results on the evaluation of various phosphonates suggest the following order, in terms of decreasing effectiveness: HEDP ≈ HPA > PAPEMP > AMP >> PBTC.

Abstract:Objective Reasons for patients' acceptance of the allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo‐HSCT) proposed and how their decision may be affected by the long distances involved have not been sufficiently investigated so far. We therefore conducted a qualitative study to identify the factors involved in overseas patients' decision to accept allo‐HSCT. Methods In‐depth semi‐directive interviews were conducted with overseas allo‐grafted patients (n = 22), as well as one non‐consenting patient and their caregivers (n = 24). Interviews were analyzed taking an inductive thematic approach. Results Respondents stated that their decision to undergo the transplantation was constrained by their feeling of being in a therapeutic impasse, the need for a survival strategy, the need to survive for their family's sake, family and doctors' pressures, and the feeling of being managed. The following factors favoring patients' acceptance were the medical information received, their faith, having a family donor, peer testimonies, and positive representations of the transplantation. Factors against patients' acceptance were geographical distance from home to the transplant center, apprehension of protective isolation, fear of dying, and representations of the graft. Conclusions These factors, such as patient's personal values and representations, need to be weighed up in order to adapt the information exchanged accordingly. Efforts are required to relieve patients' social isolation and improve the means of providing family support.
