Abstract:This study presents an innovative, environmentally friendly method for biosynthesizing copper oxide–silica (Cu 2 O/SiO 2 ) nanocomposites (CSNCs) utilizing an aqueous leaf extract of Callistemon viminalis ( C. viminalis ). The goal of this work is to fabricate CSNCs using a less hazardous and sustainable synthesis approach. Copper acetate and sodium metasilicate were used as precursors, whereas the C. viminalis green leaf extract was used as the reducing and stabilizing agent. Analysis of the plant extract using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy indicated the presence of polyphenolic compounds, primarily phenolic acids, which functioned as both reducing and stabilizing agents in the synthesis of CSNCs. A combination of energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy was used to study the formation of spherical copper–silica hybrid nanostructures. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis revealed the successful integration of silica with copper( i ) oxide (Cu 2 O) through the presence of distinct Cu 2 O peaks and a broad amorphous SiO 2 peak at 2 θ = 22.77°. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites (NCs) was assessed using thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis under a nitrogen atmosphere. The biogenic NCs also successfully inhibited pathogenic strains of Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) and Candida albicans ( C. albicans ); however, S. aureus was found to be more susceptible to the biocidal activity of the NCs than P. aeruginosa . These findings suggest that this simple, cost-effective, and eco-friendly method for producing biologically active hybrid nanomaterials holds significant promise for future applications in both biological and materials sciences.

An Eco-Friendly Approach for the Synthesis of Ni/NiO/g-C3N4 Nanocomposite Using Cleome Gynandra Leaf Extract for Biomedical and Photocatalytic Applications

Abstract:Nano, Ahead of Print. The (Ni/NiO)[math]/g-C3N4 nanocomposite was green synthesized using Cleome gynandra via sol–gel method. The photocatalytic dye decomposition, antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of the nanocomposite were studied and compared with those of (Ni/NiO)[math] and g-C3N4. The nanocomposite exhibited enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of 97% compared to (Ni/NiO)[math] (63%) and g-C3N4 (80%) due to the synergistic effect between both the composite partners. The nanocomposite, (Ni/NiO)[math]/g-C3N4 showed notable antioxidant activity in DPPH (IC[math] of [math][math][math]g/mL with 87.06% of inhibition at 500[math][math]g/mL) and ABTS (IC[math] of [math][math][math]g/mL with 88.40 % of inhibition at 500[math][math]g/mL) radical scavenging assays. The green synthesized nanocomposite also exhibited significant antidiabetic activity in [math]-amylase and [math]-glucosidase enzyme inhibition assays with the IC[math] of [math][math][math]g/mL and [math][math][math]g/mL, respectively. The XRD and SEM analyses confirmed the nanocomposite formation of (Ni/NiO)[math]/g-C3N4. The results showed that the green synthesized (Ni/NiO)[math]/g-C3N4 has desirable dye degradation, antidiabetic and antioxidant properties. This paper presents the results of the remarkable photocatalytic dye decomposition, antidiabetic and antioxidant properties of the nanocomposite (Ni/NiO)[math]/g-C3N4 synthesized via an eco-friendly greeny way using Cleome gynandra leaf extract which may be the first report of this kind utilizing this plant.

Abstract:Abstract The green methodologies of nanoparticles with plant extracts have received an increase of interest. Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs) have been utilized in a many of applications in the last few decades. The current study presents the synthesis of CuO NPs with aqueous extract of Morinda citrifolia as a stabilizing agent. The leaf extract of Morinda citrifolia was mixed with a solution of copper sulphate (CuSO 4 ·5H 2 O) and sodium hydroxide as a catalyst. UV–visible spectroscopy, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, and EDAX analysis were performed to study the synthesized CuO NPs. Particle size distribution of the synthesized CuO NPs have been measured with dynamic light scattering. The CuO NPs synthesized were highly stable, sphere-like, and have size of particles from 20 to 50 nm. Furthermore, as-formed CuO NPs shown strong antibacterial activity against the Gram-positive bacteria ( Bacillus subtilis, and Staphylococcus aureus ), and Gram-negative bacteria ( Escherichia coli ). CuO NPs revealed a similar trend was analysed for antifungal activity. The zone of inhibition for the fungi evaluated for Aspergillus flavus (13.0 ± 1.1), Aspergillus niger (14.3 ± 0.7), and Penicillium frequentans (16.8 ± 1.4). According to the results of this investigation, green synthesized CuO NPs with Morinda citrifolia leaf extract may be used in biomedicine as a replacement agent for biological applications.

Abstract:Complex tri-metallic AM-Ag/CuO/ZnO NC (NC = Nano-composite) was derived by applying green chemistry principles and optimized via different parameters using simple optical properties of the constituent metals. Primary optimization of AM-Ag/CuO/ZnO NC was done by UV–VIS-NIR spectrophotometer, FTIR spectral report with respect to A. monophylla leaf extract, demonstrated specific peaks in the range 802 to 466 cm−1 which validated the collective synthesis of nano-composite. XRD analysis evaluated the dominant face-centred cubic (FCC) crystal phase over monoclinic and hexagonal phases with an average diameter of 10.20 nm. The morphology, shape, crystalline nature and average diameter were characterized by HR-SEM, HR-TEM images, SAED pattern and micrograph images respectively. Tri-metallic AM-Ag/CuO/ZnO NC has shown an admirable zone of inhibition against eight pathogenic bacteria and potential in-vitro antioxidant activity against DPPH and ABTS free radicals. Nano-composite also well-established the selective inhibition of cervical cancer cell lines compared to (immortal) human embryonic kidney cell lines.Graphical abstract

Abstract:Recently, the use of plant extracts has emerged as an innovative approach for the production of various nanoparticles. Enhancing green methods for synthesizing copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles (NPs) is a key focus in the field of nanotechnology. This study presents a novel and eco-friendly synthesis of CuO NPs using Rumex vesicarius L. leaf extracts, offering a cost-effective and efficient method. The synthesized CuO NPs were evaluated for their cytotoxic effects against human cervical carcinoma (HeLa) cells, as well as their photocatalytic and antimicrobial activities. The morphology, size, and structural properties of the CuO NPs were characterized using various analytical techniques. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the pure crystalline structure of the CuO NPs with a size of 19 nm, while transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed particle sizes ranging from 5 to 200 nm. The photocatalytic performance of the CuO NPs was assessed through the photodegradation of crystal violet (CV) and methylene blue (MB) dyes under UV light. The NPs exhibited excellent decolorization efficiency, effectively degrading dyes in aqueous solutions under irradiation. Furthermore, the green-synthesized CuO NPs displayed strong antibacterial and antifungal activities against a variety of human pathogens. They also demonstrated significant dose-dependent cytotoxicity against the HeLa cancer cell line, with an IC50 value of 8 ± 0.54 μg/mL.

Abstract:Nanotechnology research is emerging as cutting-edge technology, and nanoparticles (NPs) and nanocomposites (NCs) have played a significant role in the bioremediation and treatment of polluted water by organic and nonorganic materials. Nanoparticles produced by plant extracts are more stable and biocompatible in comparison with those produced by physical and chemical methods. This research focuses on the synthesis of NiO NPs and Cu-NiO NCs using Phytolacca dodecandra L'Herit (P.d) leaf extract and evaluation of their antioxidant and photocatalytic activities. Cu-NiO NCs were synthesized using 50 mL of 0.1 M nickel(II) nitrate hexahydrate, 10 mL of 0.1 M copper(II) nitrate trihydrate, and 20 mL of leaf extract. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by UV-vis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses to study the energy band gap, average crystallite size, functional groups, and morphology of the samples, respectively. The UV-vis analysis showed a red shift after copper doping, indicating a decrease in the optical band gap values. FT-IR characterization confirms the presence of various functional groups in samples. Crystallite sizes of the formed particles were obtained to be 14.18 and 16.10 nm from the XRD data for NiO NPs and Cu-NiO NCs, respectively. SEM showed the crystallinity of particles with a cubic structure. The photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue (MB) was found to be 78.3 and 97.8% by NiO NPs and Cu-NiO NCs, respectively. In the antioxidant test, NiO NPs and Cu-NiO NCs prevented the oxidation of 50% of the H2O2 molecules at a concentration of 363.96 and 350.29 μg/mL, respectively. Finally, the synthesized samples showed good photocatalytic and antioxidant activities.

Abstract:Multifunctional CuMn:NiO NPs synthesized through green methods exhibit potent antimicrobial, antifungal, and anticancer properties. Their diverse applications in healthcare mark a promising advancement in nanoparticle‐based therapeutics. In recent years, the development of dual dopant‐based nanoparticles (NPs) has gained significant attention as they possess exceptional physico‐chemical and biomedical properties, making them potential candidates for antimicrobial and anticancer uses. In this research, we successfully synthesized nickel oxide (NiO) and copper, manganese‐doped NiO (CuMn:NiO) NPs using a green synthesis method. The synthesis process involved Trigonella foenum‐graecum (T.f.graecum) leaves extract as a nucleating agent. The synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by various physico‐chemical studies. Based on X‐ray diffraction analysis, the median size was determined as 36 nm for NiO and 32 nm for CuMn:NiO NPs. The antibacterial study revealed that CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited a higher zone of inhibition in contrast to both Gram‐positive (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium) and Gram‐negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae) compared with NiO NPs and commercial amoxicillin. The antifungal studies conducted against Candida albicans demonstrated that CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited enhanced efficacy in comparison to NiO NPs. In vitro testing against human breast cancer cells (MCF‐7) demonstrated the anticancer potential of NiO and CuMn:NiO NPs, supported by IC50 concentrations of 11 and 9 μg/mL, respectively. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of NiO and CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited a green emission at 508 and 518 nm, respectively, which indicated the generation of active free radicals by the NPs. These findings suggest that CuMn:NiO NPs hold promise in the healthcare industry.

Abstract:Ag‐CuO nanocomposites have been synthesized via green protocol from Citrus limetta fruit juice extract. The nanocomposites efficiently catalysed the synthesis of Schiff bases under mild conditions and the photodegradation of Congo red dye. The nanocomposites also exhibited significant cytotoxicity effects against the MCF‐7 (human breast) cell line. Amid growing environmental concerns and the need for a sustainable future, green synthetic methodologies are gaining popularity for their simplicity and nontoxicity. In pursuit of the eco‐friendly synthesis of nanomaterials, the study reports an innovative synthesis of Ag‐CuO nanocomposites via the coprecipitation method utilizing Citrus limetta fruit juice extract as the bioreductant and stabilizing agent. The morphological and structural characteristics of the fabricated nanocomposites were evaluated by ultraviolet–visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV–vis DRS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy‐dispersive X‐ray (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), Raman and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analyses. The nanocomposites were crystalline with particle sizes ranging from 15 to 24 nm and exhibited spherical and rod‐like shapes. The band gap value and specific surface area of the nanocomposites were found to be 1.5 eV and 25.50 m2/g, respectively. The photoluminescence (PL) analysis and electrochemical studies revealed significant charge separation and effective charge migration behaviour of the nanocomposites, respectively. The nanocomposites effectively catalysed the synthesis of Schiff bases from aryl aldehydes and aromatic amines at room temperature and without solvents. The reactions proceeded in a brief time with excellent product yields, and the nanocatalyst retained its activity for five consecutive cycles. The nanocomposites also efficiently catalysed the photodegradation of Congo red dye under visible light. A significant degradation of 94.33% was attained in 55 min, and the nanocatalyst maintained its efficacy over four consecutive reaction cycles. Moreover, the nanocomposites exhibited notable anticancer properties against the MCF‐7 (human breast) cell line, demonstrating a remarkable cytotoxicity rate of 87.79%. The findings highlight the efficacy of the biosynthesized nanocomposites in catalysis, environmental remediation and biological applications.

Eco-inspired synthesis of ZnO/CuO nanocomposites using Phyllanthus niruri: unveiling superior photocatalytic, antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, and latent fingerprint studies

Abstract:The current study focuses on the facile green synthesis of ZnO/CuO nanocomposites (NCs) mediated by Phyllanthus niruri leaf extract as a capping agent and fuel. The characterization of the synthesized NCs in comparison with the pure ZnO and CuO NPs was conducted using XRD, FT-IR, SEM-EDAX, HR-TEM, UV–Vis DRS, and PL studies. XRD analysis revealed their crystalline nature with an average crystallite size of 25 nm. SEM images showed particle agglomeration, and EDAX confirmed the elemental composition of the pure phase. HR-TEM images elucidated the presence of spherical and hexagonal shapes. The presence of bond vibrations such as Zn − O and Cu − O was confirmed by FT-IR analysis. The optical energy bandgaps were determined to be 3.27, 2.8, and 2.7 eV for ZnO, CuO NPs, and ZnO/CuO NCs respectively. PL studies of the synthesized NCs showed a blue emission with a peak position at 493 nm. The photocatalytic activity of ZnO/CuO NCs exhibited a degradation efficiency of 97.93% against methylene blue dye and 53% towards the Rose Bengal dye. Furthermore, the investigation of antibacterial activity by 96-well microtiter plate method against two bacterial strains, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus , revealed significant zones of inhibition, and when compared to the common antibiotic ciprofloxacin, the MIC values were 3.90 μg/mL for both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli , while the MBC values were 2.05 μg/mL for Staphylococcus aureus and 2.19 μg/mL for Escherichia coli . The prepared materials were additionally tested for latent fingerprint activity. The NCs displayed excellent properties, producing visible, clear images of latent fingerprints. Thus, the ZnO/CuO nanocomposites (NCs) synthesized using Phyllanthus niruri leaf extract could be a desirable catalyst for wastewater treatment and a potent antimicrobial agent against the bacteria and can be used for latent fingerprint applications. Abstract:The removal and degradation of organic/inorganic pollutants from aqueous solutions have stimulated the interest of researchers in recent years using heterogeneous adsorbent nanocatalysts. In this study, the coupled CuO/Fe3O4 nanocomposite (NC) was prepared at one step with a simple, cost-effective, and eco-friendly method by Adiantum C.V leaf extract as a reducing agent. The crystallite sizes for the CuO and CuO/Fe3O4 samples were obtained of XRD results by the Williamson–Hall equation (about 32.26 and 24.49 nm) and the Scherrer equation (about 22.37 and 23.97 nm), respectively. The EDS results from CuO/Fe3O4 NCs indicated a mole ratio of 1:2 for CuO/Fe3O4. Catalytic activity studies of green synthesized CuO/Fe3O4 NCs (dosage: 0.1 g/L) have shown high removal efficiency for both methyl orange (MO) (1.2 × 10–5 M) and Cr(VI) (3.0 × 10–3 M) pollutants at alkaline pHs between a range of (3 and 10) with a contact time of about 110 min. The degradation extent of the MO and Cr(VI) pollutants was estimated by changes in the UV–vis absorbances set to at λmax = 465 and 542 nm, respectively. Adsorption kinetics for the degradation of both investigated pollutants followed the pseudo-first-order kinetics model. The kinetic result showed degradation rate was increased toward the increase in pH (3–10) and temperature (293–308 K). The calculated thermodynamic parameters (∆G°, ∆H°, and ∆S°) demonstrate that the adsorption of MO and Cr(VI) on the surface of green NCs is thermodynamically possible and spontaneous as temperature rises. Therefore, the present approach provides a potential method for preparing heterogeneous nanocatalysts for a wide range of applications in the degradation and reduction in organic/inorganic pollutants. Abstract:In this study, Ziziphus spina christi leaves was used to synthesize a trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite by a simple and green method. Many characterizations e.g. FTIR, UV–vis DRS, SEM–EDX, TEM, XRD, zeta-size analysis, and DLS, were used to confirm green-synthesized trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite. The green, synthesized trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite exhibited a spherical dot-like structure, with an average particle size of around 7.11 ± 0.67 nm and a zeta potential of 21.5 mV. An extremely homogeneous distribution of signals, including O (79.25%), Cu (13.78%), Zn (4.42%), and Ag (2.55%), is evident on the surface of green-synthetic nanocomposite, according to EDX data. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to effectively use an industrially produced green trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite as a potent antimicrobial agent by employing different statistically experimental designs. The highest yield of green synthetic trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite was (1.65 mg/mL), which was enhanced by 1.85 and 5.7 times; respectively, by using the Taguchi approach in comparison to the Plackett–Burman strategy and basal condition. A variety of assays techniques were utilized to evaluate the antimicrobial capabilities of the green-synthesized trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite at a 200 μg/mL concentration against multidrug-resistant human pathogens. After a 36-h period, the tested 200 μg/mL of the green-synthetic trimetallic CuO/Ag/ZnO nanocomposite effectively reduced the planktonic viable counts of the studied bacteria, Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus , which showed the highest percentage of biofilm reduction (98.06 ± 0.93 and 97.47 ± 0.65%; respectively).

Green Synthesis of Copper Oxide Nanoparticles Using Aerva javanica Leaf Extract and Their Characterization and Investigation of In Vitro Antimicrobial Potential and Cytotoxic Activities

Abstract:The development of green technology is creating great interest for researchers towards low-cost and environmentally friendly methods for the synthesis of nanoparticles. Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) attracted many researchers due to their electric, catalytic, optical, textile, photonic, monofluid, and pharmacological activities that depend on the shape and size of the nanoparticles. This investigation aims copper oxide nanoparticles synthesis using Aerva javanica plant leaf extract. Characterization of copper oxide nanoparticles synthesized by green route was performed by three different techniques: X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy, and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD) reveals the crystalline morphology of CuO-NPs and the average crystal size obtained is 15 nm. SEM images showed the spherical nature of the particles and size is lying in the 15–23 nm range. FTIR analysis confirms the functional groups of active components present in the extract which are responsible for reducing and capping agents for the synthesis of CuO-NPs. The synthesized CuO-NPs were studied for their antimicrobial potential against different bacterial as well as fungal pathogens. The results indicated that CuO-NPs show maximum antimicrobial activities against all the selected bacterial and fungal pathogens. Antimicrobial activities of copper oxide nanoparticles were compared with standard drugs Norfloxacin and amphotericin B antibiotics. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of copper oxide nanoparticles were 128 μg/mL against all selected bacterial pathogens. MIC of fungus and minimum fungicidal concentration (MFC) of CuO-NPs were 160 μg/mL. Thus, CuO-NPs can be utilized as a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent. The cytotoxic activity of the synthesized CuO-NPs suggested that toxicity was negligible at concentrations below 60 μg/mL.

Abstract:Compared to conventional metal oxide nanoparticles, metal oxide nanocomposites have demonstrated significantly enhanced efficiency in various applications. In this study, we aimed to synthesize zinc oxide–copper oxide nanocomposites (ZnO-CuO NCs) using a green synthesis approach. The synthesis involved mixing 4 g of Zn(NO3)2·6H2O with different concentrations of mangosteen (G. mangostana) leaf extract (0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05 g/mL) and 2 or 4 g of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O, followed by calcination at temperatures of 300, 400 and 500 °C. The synthesized ZnO-CuO NCs were characterized using various techniques, including a UV-Visible spectrometer (UV-Vis), photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM) with an Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyzer. Based on the results of this study, the optical, structural and morphological properties of ZnO-CuO NCs were found to be influenced by the concentration of the mangosteen leaf extract, the calcination temperature and the amount of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O used. Among the tested conditions, ZnO-CuO NCs derived from 0.05 g/mL of mangosteen leaf extract, 4 g of Zn(NO3)2·6H2O and 2 g of Cu(NO3)2·3H2O, calcinated at 500 °C exhibited the following characteristics: the lowest energy bandgap (2.57 eV), well-defined Zn-O and Cu-O bands, the smallest particle size of 39.10 nm with highest surface area-to-volume ratio and crystalline size of 18.17 nm. In conclusion, we successfully synthesized ZnO-CuO NCs using a green synthesis approach with mangosteen leaf extract. The properties of the nanocomposites were significantly influenced by the concentration of the plant extract, the calcination temperature and the amount of precursor used. These findings provide valuable insights for researchers seeking innovative methods for the production and utilization of nanocomposite materials.

Abstract:Earth abundant metal sulphides such as Cu 2 S and NiS 2 are potential materials to be used as photocatalysts because of their advantageous optical and biological aspects. In this research, a low-cost, high-speed, one step combustion production of novel Cu 2 S-NiS 2 nanocomposite (NCs) was successfully developed. They are integrally characterized and evaluated as photocatalysts for dye degradation and biological uses. The synthesized NCs were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM, TEM, EDAX, UV–Visible and PL. XRD data is well matched with JCPDS 03–1071 and 73–574 which correspond to Cu 2 S and NiS 2 nanoparticles (NPs) respectively. FT-IR spectrum exhibits the existence of metal-sulphur bonding in Cu 2 S-NiS 2 NCs. The optical energy band gap of Cu 2 S-NiS 2 NCs was found 2.30 eV. Under visible light irradiation, the photocatalytic activity of Cu 2 S-NiS 2 NCs on rose bengal dye was investigated. Cu 2 S-NiS 2 NCs is more efficient photocatalyst than individual metal sulphide NPs. Also, an important aspect of this study was the exploration of the antimicrobial, antioxidant and antihemolytic properties of pure NPs and Cu 2 S-NiS 2 NCs. The results from the biological screening exposed the fact that the Cu 2 S-NiS 2 NCs demonstrated significantly higher pharmacological activities in comparison to pure NPs.

Abstract:The use of eco-friendly methods for the synthesis of nanoparticles and its nano-composite has become a public demand nowadays to reduce the risks of chemical methods. In the current study, green synthesis of Cu-doped ZnO based polymers nan-ocomposite was performed. Various instrumental analysis including UV–vis, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, SEM coupled with energy dispersive X-ray analysis, TEM and Thermal gravimetric were used to characterize nano-composite. Highly antibacterial activity of the synthesized nano-composite was recorded against tested microorganisms with promising efficacy against bacteria namely; Bacillus subtilis , Staphylococcus aureus , Enterococcus faecalis , Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa , Escherichia coli , Salmonella typhimurium and yeast ( Candida albicans ) but unfortunately not against black fungus ( Mucor circinelloides ) and filamentous fungi Aspergillus flavus and A. niger. Anti-inflammatory of nano-composite represented by hemolysis inhibition was observed at using low concentration (100 μg/mL) with enhancing 23.85% compared with free nano-composite while at high concentrations 500 and1000 μg/mL the anti-inflammatory activity was approximately similar with enhancing 3.91% and 1.99%, respectively. Antioxidant of the nano-composite was better than the antioxidant of free nano-composite at all tested concentrations, moreover the IC 50 of the nano-composite (91.16 μg/mL) was less than the IC 50 , (203.65 μg/mL) of the free nano-composite.

Abstract:In the present work, we report the biosynthesis of Nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles using Senna auriculata aqueous flower extract and their evaluated to the photocatalyst and antimicrobial activities. The synthesized nanoparticles were analysed using UV–Visible (UV–Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Photoluminescence (PL), High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Zeta potential (ZE) and Surface area analysis. The XRD shows the obtained peaks are indexed to the crystalline planes (111), (200), (220), (311) and (222) confirmed that the NiO nanoparticles possessed a good crystalline nature. UV–Vis confirmed that NiO nanoparticles had a direct bandgap at 3.25 eV. DLS analysis and ZE values validated the stability of NiO nanoparticles (53 nm and − 24 mV). HR-TEM analysis revealed that the synthesized NiO nanoparticles had a spherical structure with uniform distribution along the surface. The FT-IR analyses show that the surface of synthesized nanoparticles acts as a reducing and stabilising agent for proteins, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups. The antibacterial activities of biosynthesized NiO nanoparticles are greater against Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) than the Gram-positive microorganism. The catalyst activity of synthesized nanoparticles regarding methylene blue (MB) dye degradation under direct visible light irradiation was studied. The degradation effectiveness against MB dye was found to be 97% for 90 min. Overall, these studies show that Senna auriculata is an effective sell being planted and has the highest probability of being used in the design and development of nanoparticles for environmental pollution and human health.

Abstract:The green synthesis of metallic nanoparticles (NPs) has garnered significant interest owing to their eco-friendly and sustainable approach, which utilizes natural resources as both reducing and stabilizing factors. This method yields NPs with desirable properties suitable for various applications in diverse areas. Among different NPs, metal oxide NPs such as copper oxide (CuO) NPs have drawn considerable interest owing to their excellent properties and applications in diverse fields such as nanomedicine and biomedicine. Various methods can synthesize CuO NPs, including physical, chemical, and biological approaches. Physicochemical methods are known to be highly toxic, energy-intensive, and expensive, while biological synthesis offers an eco-friendly, cost-effective, simple, and reliable method of producing CuO NPs. This review discusses the potential utilizations of CuO NPs synthesized using a greener approach in various fields, including antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammation, anticancer, anti-oxidant, drug delivery, wound healing, biosensor, environmental remediation, photodegradation, nano fertilizers, textile industry, nanofluid, energy storage, and so on. The eco-friendly and sustainable nature of the synthesis process, coupled with the versatile applications of CuO NPs, underscores the importance of green synthesis approaches in advancing nanotechnology for a sustainable future.

Its synthesis from green chemistry principles is gaining importance as next-generation antibiotics due to its simplicity, eco-friendliness, and cost-effectiveness. In the present study, CuO nanorods (CuO NRs) were synthesized from the aqueous fruit extract of Momordica charantia and characterized using different analytical techniques. Further, the biomedical therapeutic potential was evaluated against multi-drug resistant microbial strains. Materials and Methods: To synthesize CuO NRs, 0.1M of CuSO 4 .5H 2 O solution was added to aqueous extract of Momordica charantia in a 1:3 (v/v) ratio (pH=11) and heated at 50°C followed by washing and drying. The synthesized CuO NRs were subjected to characterization using different analytical techniques such as UV visible spectroscopy, zeta sizer equipped with zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Further, the application as a biomedical therapeutic potential was evaluated in vitro using well diffusion method against eleven multidrug-resistant clinical bacterial strains, a fungus- Trichophyton rubrum and in ovo against the R 2 B virus using haemagglutination (HA) test. Results: Characterization was preliminarily done by the spectral study that confirms the absorbance band at 245nm. FTIR analysis at 628 cm − 1 peak identified copper oxide vibration. SEM analysis revealed agglomerated particle clusters. However, with TEM clear nanorods of average diameter of 61.48 ± 2 nm were observed. EDAX confirmed CuO formation while XRD showed a typical monoclinic structure with 6 nm crystallite size. Biological screening of CuO NRs showed significant results against both in vitro and in ovo methods. Significant inhibitory activity (p< 0.0001) was noted against most of the resistant human pathogenic strains including both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The highest efficacy was observed against Bacillus cereus with a 31.66 mm zone of inhibition. Besides, the therapeutic potential of CuO NRs against Corynebacterium xerosis, Streptococcus viridians and R 2 B strain of Newcastle disease is reported for the first time. Conclusion: Based on the present results, it could be expected that green synthesized CuO NRs would find potential applications in the field of nanomedicine. Abstract:A simple, eco-friendly, and biomimetic approach using Thymus vulgaris (T. vulgaris) leaf extract was developed for the formation of ZnO-Ag nanocomposites (NCs) without employing any stabilizer and a chemical surfactant. T. vulgaris leaf extract was used for the first time, in a novel approach, for green fabrication of ZnO-Ag NCs as a size based reducing agent via the hydrothermal method in a single step. Presence of phenols in T. vulgaris leaf extract has served as both reducing and capping agents that play a critical role in the production of ZnO-Ag NCs. The effect of silver nitrate concentration in the formation of ZnO-Ag NCs was studied. The in-vitro Antimicrobial activity of NCs displayed high antimicrobial potency on selective gram negative and positive foodborne pathogens. Antioxidant activity of ZnO-Ag NCs was evaluated via (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) DPPH method. Photocatalytic performance of ZnO-Ag NCs was appraised by degradation of phenol under natural sunlight, which exhibited efficient photocatalytic activity on phenol. Cytotoxicity of the NCs was evaluated using the haemolysis assay. Results of this study reveal that T. vulgaris leaf extract, containing phytochemicals, possess reducing property for ZnO-Ag NCs fabrication and the obtained ZnO-Ag NCs could be employed effectively for biological applications in food science. Therefore, the present study offers a promising way to achieve high-efficiency photocatalysis based on the hybrid structure of semiconductor/metal.
