Abstract:Objective This study aims to compare how HIV-positive and HIV-negative women in a remote sub-country in Uganda access health services to inform consideration of potential HIV and HPV-based cervical cancer screening integration at the community level. Methods This cross-sectional study recruited women living in the South Busoga District Reserve from January to August 2023. Women were eligible if they were aged 30 to 49 years old, had no history of cervical cancer screening or treatment, had no previous hysterectomy, and could provide informed consent. Participants completed a survey administered by village health teams, which included questions on HIV status, demographics, healthcare access, and services received. The data was analyzed using bivariate descriptive statistics, including chi-square and Fisher’s exact tests. Results Among the 1437 participants included in the analysis, 8.8% were HIV-positive. The majority of the respondents were between 30-39 years of age, were married, had received primary education or higher, and were farmers. The majority of women in both groups had accessed outreach visits (HIV-positive = 89.0%, HIV-negative = 85.8%) and health centres (HIV-positive = 96.1%, HIV-negative = 80.2%). The most commonly received services among both groups of women at outreach visits and health centres were immunization and antenatal care, respectively. Conclusion Our study demonstrated that there were no significant differences in healthcare access between HIV-positive and HIV-negative women in rural Uganda. Additionally, the high usage of healthcare services by women living with HIV suggests that the integration of cervical cancer and HIV screening may facilitate early detection and prevention of cervical cancer among this population. This can reduce the burden of disease in Uganda and further contribute to the World Health Organization’s initiative to eradicate cervical cancer.

Abstract:Atomic and molecular resonances play a role in many physical processes. Resonances are metastable states that have a finite lifetime. Nowadays, resonance complex eigenvalues can be calculated by quantum chemistry packages modified to include complex absorbing potentials (CAPs), where the imaginary energy part corresponds to the resonance lifetime. CAPs provide similar conditions to the ones obtained by imposing outgoing boundary conditions (OBCs), however, they also introduce artificial reflections. In this study, we present a scheme that eliminates the artificial effect of CAPs from bona fide electronic-structure calculations using the Padé approximant. This allows us to reach the physical limit and obtain the same eigenvalues as if we were able to solve the time-independent Schrödinger equation with OBCs (and without adding an unphysical CAP). We apply this scheme to the CO- and N2- shape-type 2Π resonances with excellent agreement with experimental and other theoretical studies. The strength of the presented approach is demonstrated by providing accurate resonance complex energies independent of the CAP location, even when placed on the nuclei, which makes the optimization of the CAP-onset parameters redundant.
Uptake and acceptability of cervical cancer screening among female sex workers in Eastern Uganda: A cross-sectional study.

Abstract:Background: Cervical cancer screening program in Uganda is opportunistic and focuses mainly on women aged 25-49 years. Female sex workers (FSWs) are at increased risk of developing invasive cervical cancer. There is limited data regarding the uptake and acceptability of cervical cancer screening among FSWs in Uganda. This study aimed at identifying factors affecting uptake and acceptability of cervical cancer screening among FSWs in Eastern Uganda. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted among 423 FSWs aged 18-49 years attending care at six health facilities serving Key Population in the Teso sub-region. Data was collected using structured investigator administered questionnaire and analyzed using Stata statistical software version 15.0 (Stata Corp, Texas, USA). The primary outcome was uptake of cervical cancer screening measured as the proportion of female sex workers who have ever been screened for cervical cancer. Chi-square test was used to compare the differences in uptake of cervical cancer screening by HIV status. Modified Poisson regression model with a robust variance estimator was used to determine association between the outcome variables and selected independent variables including demographic characteristics. Prevalence ratios (PR) with accompanying 95% confidence intervals have been reported. Statistical significance was considered at two-sided p-values ≤ 0.05. Results: The mean age of the participants was 28.1(±SD=6.6) years. The self-reported HIV prevalence was 21.5% (n=91). There were 138 (32.6%) participants who had ever been screened for cervical cancer (uptake), while 397 (93.9%) were willing to be screened (acceptability). There was a significant difference in cervical cancer screening uptake between women living with HIV and those who were HIV negative, 59.3% vs 26.9% respectively (P<0.001). The significant factors associated with uptake of cervical cancer screening included being HIV positive, adjusted prevalence ratio (aPR) = 1.74; (95% CI: 1.32-2.29), living near a private not for profit (PNFP) facility, aPR = 2.02 (95% CI; 1.38-2.95), availability of screening services at the nearest health facility, aPR=1.66 (95% CI, 1.16-2.37) and being currently on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), aPR=1.62 (95% CI, 1.12-2.34). Factors significantly associated with acceptability included never screening for cervical cancer, aPR=1.08 (95%CI, 1.01-1.14), and living near a PNFP facility, aPR=1.12 (95% CI, 1.06-1.19). Conclusion: Female sex workers living with HIV are more likely to screen for cervical cancer than the HIV negative clients. Cervical cancer screening uptake is relatively low among the female sex workers. However, majority of the FSWs are willing to be screened for cervical cancer if the services are provided in the nearby healthcare facilities. There is need to make cervical cancer screening services available to all eligible women especially the female sex workers and integrate the services with sexual reproductive health services in general and not just HIV/ART clinics services.
Utilization of Cervical Cancer Screening Services and Trends in Screening Positivity Rates in a ‘Screen-And-Treat’ Program Integrated with HIV/AIDS Care in Zambia

Abstract:BACKGROUND: In the absence of stand-alone infrastructures for delivering cervical cancer screening services, efforts are underway in sub-Saharan Africa to dovetail screening with ongoing vertical health initiatives like HIV/AIDS care programs. Yet, evidence demonstrating the utilization of cervical cancer prevention services in such integrated programs by women of the general population is lacking.METHODS: We analyzed program operations data from the Cervical Cancer Prevention Program in Zambia (CCPPZ), the largest public sector programs of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa. We evaluated patterns of utilization of screening services by HIV serostatus, examined contemporaneous trends in screening outcomes, and used multivariable modeling to identify factors associated with screening test positivity.RESULTS: Between January 2006 and April 2011, CCPPZ services were utilized by 56,247 women who underwent cervical cancer screening with visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA), aided by digital cervicography. The proportion of women accessing these services who were HIV-seropositive declined from 54% to 23% between 2006-2010, which coincided with increasing proportions of HIV-seronegative women (from 22% to 38%) and women whose HIV serostatus was unknown (from 24% to 39%) (all p-for trend<0.001). The rates of VIA screening positivity declined from 47% to 17% during the same period (p-for trend <0.001), and this decline was consistent across all HIV serostatus categories. After adjusting for demographic and sexual/reproductive factors, HIV-seropositive women were more than twice as likely (Odds ratio 2.62, 95% CI 2.49, 2.76) to screen VIA-positive than HIV-seronegative women.CONCLUSIONS: This is the first 'real world' demonstration in a public sector implementation program in a sub-Saharan African setting that with successful program scale-up efforts, nurse-led cervical cancer screening programs targeting women with HIV can expand and serve all women, regardless of HIV serostatus. Screening program performance can improve with adequate emphasis on training, quality control, and telemedicine-support for nurse-providers in clinical decision making.

Abstract:Several methods have been developed for tapering or shading of line arrays to minimize minor lobes. A method developed by C. L. Dolph makes it possible to optimize the patterns so that 1), for any specified minor lobe, the narrowest possible major lobe is achieved; or 2), for any specified major-lobe width, the lowest possible minor-lobe levels are achieved. The procedure to calculate the required set of shading coefficients involves algebraic manipulation of Chebyshev polynomials. This manipulation becomes increasingly tedious as the array size becomes larger. The letter presents a compact matrix formulation of Dolph-Chebyshev beamforming which can provide additional insight to the general problem of array shading. A special case of this formulation leads to a close-form solution.

Abstract:Introduction: Evidence-based preventive strategies for cervical cancer in low-resource setting have been developed, but implementation is challenged, and uptake remains low. Women and girls experience social and economic barriers to attend screening and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination programs. Male support has been proven successful in uptake of other reproductive healthcare services. This qualitative study with focus groups aimed to understand the perspectives of males on cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination in Western-Uganda This knowledge could be integrated into awareness activities to increase the attendance of cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccination programs. Materials and methods: Focus group discussions were conducted with men aged 25 to 60 years, who were married and/or had daughters, in Kagadi district, Mid-Western Uganda. All interviews were transcribed verbatim and thematically analyzed using an inductive approach. Results: Eleven focus group discussions were conducted with 67 men. Men were willing to support their wives for screening and their daughters for HPV vaccination. Misperceptions such as family planning and poor personal hygiene leading to cervical cancer, and misperception of the preventative aspect of screening and vaccination were common. Women with cervical cancer suffer from stigmatization and family problems due to loss of fertility, less marital sexual activity, domestic violence and decreased economic productivity. Conclusions: Ugandan men were willing to support cervical cancer prevention for their wives and daughters after being informed about cervical cancer. Limited knowledge among men about the risk factors and causes of cervical cancer, and about the preventative aspect of HPV vaccination and screening and their respective target groups, can limit uptake of both services. Screening and vaccination programs should actively involve men in creating awareness to increase uptake and acceptance of prevention.

Abstract:It is proposed that clinicians refrain from telling sexually abused children that the experience of abuse was "not their fault," since such well-intentioned assurances can diminish the sense of power and control that the children may feel in addition to their guilt. Affirming children's sense of power rather than their status as victims may have future benefits for them and for their own children.

Abstract:Background: Previous studies underscore the crucial link between awareness and timely cervical cancer screening and treatment, particularly among women of reproductive age. Yet, insights remain limited when it comes to women living with HIV in Addis Ababa. This study examined the knowledge and practices of these women regarding cervical cancer screening and treatment, illuminating the factors that both enable and hinder their uptake. Methods: This cross-sectional study took place in six public hospitals in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, involving 578 women with HIV. The recruitment spanned 10 months, from January 1st to October 31st, 2021. Trained clinicians utilized the Open Data Kit for data collection, ensuring real-time submission to the server. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 25, employing descriptive and inferential statistics. The logistic regression model identified predictors of outcome variables, and open-ended questions were thematically narrated for qualitative insights. Results: A notable 51.2% of women with HIV exhibited inadequate knowledge regarding cervical cancer prevention and control programs. Furthermore, a substantial 68.5% had never undergone cervical examination, citing reasons such as considering themselves healthy (49.6%), perceiving the examination as painful (28.4%), and feeling shy to undergo screening (23.3%). Notably, participants with non-formal education were 70% less likely to possess knowledge about cervical cancer prevention and control (AOR = 0.30; 95% CI = 0.13-0.71). Income emerged as an independent predictor for both knowledge and practice in women's approach to cervical cancer prevention and control (P < 0.05). Additionally, occupation and duration of HIV diagnosis independently predicted practice, even after adjusting for confounding factors. Conclusion: Half of the participating HIV-positive women lacked adequate awareness about cervical cancer prevention and control, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive awareness initiatives tailored to this population. Relevant ministries, health care providers, and advocacy groups must collaborate to implement targeted education programs, utilizing diverse channels like community outreach, health care settings, and media campaigns.

Abstract:Background: Cervical cancer (CC) is a leading cause of cancer mortality in Eswatini. Preventative programs are readily available at the primary health facilities. Recently, the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccine has been introduced targeting both in- and out-of-school girls ages between 9 and 14 years old. The government of Eswatini has integrated cervical cancer screening into existing services and health activities, especially in HIV clinics, however, the uptake of screening remains low. Aim: This study explored women's perceptions, knowledge, intervention strategies, facilitators and barriers to scaling up cervical cancer prevention in Nhlambeni community in Eswatini. Methods: A qualitative approach was utilized for this study and key informant semi-structured interviews were conducted in November 2019. Purposive sampling was undertaken in this study and MAX QDA software was utilized for data analysis. Results: In total, 19 key informants were enrolled, the participants were from public facilities 7(37%), non-governmental organization 9 (47%) and patients 3 (16%). The age range for participants was between 25 - 40 years. Five themes were inductive and deductive which included: current interventions that are targeted for cervical cancer screening, women's source of information about cervical cancer screening activities, what promotion strategies could increase cervical cancer screening, understanding about cervical cancer symptoms/diagnosis of cervical cancer and cultural beliefs and attitudes involved in cervical cancer screening activities. Conclusions: Despite limited knowledge of cervical cancer and misconceptions about screening, the concept of screening for prevention and providers' influence were motivators for participation in screening. Cervical cancer screen-and-treat programs should consider utilizing language that communicates the need for cervical cancer screening and treatment and utilize prevention concepts that may already be familiar to women living there. In order to enhance cervical cancer prevention initiatives, reduce the stigma associated with the disease, and boost cervical cancer screening rates, it is imperative that there be ongoing community education and engagement on cervical cancer, aimed at both men and women.
Cervical cancer prevention and care in HIV clinics across sub-Saharan Africa: results of a facility-based survey

Abstract:Introduction: To eliminate cervical cancer (CC), access to and quality of prevention and care services must be monitored, particularly for women living with HIV (WLHIV). We assessed implementation practices in HIV clinics across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) to identify gaps in the care cascade and used aggregated patient data to populate cascades for WLHIV attending HIV clinics. Methods: Our facility-based survey was administered between November 2020 and July 2021 in 30 HIV clinics across SSA that participate in the International epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS (IeDEA) consortium. We performed a qualitative site-level assessment of CC prevention and care services and analysed data from routine care of WLHIV in SSA. Results: Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination was offered in 33% of sites. Referral for CC diagnosis (42%) and treatment (70%) was common, but not free at about 50% of sites. Most sites had electronic health information systems (90%), but data to inform indicators to monitor global targets for CC elimination in WLHIV were not routinely collected in these sites. Data were collected routinely in only 36% of sites that offered HPV vaccination, 33% of sites that offered cervical screening and 20% of sites that offered pre-cancer and CC treatment. Conclusions: Though CC prevention and care services have long been available in some HIV clinics across SSA, patient and programme monitoring need to be improved. Countries should consider leveraging their existing health information systems and use monitoring tools provided by the World Health Organization to improve CC prevention programmes and access, and to track their progress towards the goal of eliminating CC.

Abstract:Abstract Background Uganda has approximately 1.2 million people aged 15–64 years living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Previous studies have shown a higher prevalence of premalignant cervical lesions among HIV-positive women than among HIV-negative women. Additionally, HIV-infected women are more likely to have human papilloma virus (HPV) infection progress to cancer than women not infected with HIV. We determined the prevalence of premalignant cervical lesions and their association with HIV infection among women attending a cervical cancer screening clinic at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) in southwestern Uganda. Methods We conducted a comparative cross-sectional study of 210 women aged 22–65 years living with HIV and 210 women not living with HIV who were systematically enrolled from March 2022 to May 2022. Participants were subjected to a structured interviewer-administered questionnaire to obtain their demographic and clinical data. Additionally, Papanicolaou smears were obtained for microscopy to observe premalignant cervical lesions. Multivariate logistic regression was performed to determine the association between HIV status and premalignant cervical lesions. Results The overall prevalence of premalignant cervical lesions in the study population was 17% ( n = 72; 95% C.I: 14.1–21.4), with 23% ( n = 47; 95% C.I: 17.8–29.5) in women living with HIV and 12% ( n = 25; 95% C.I: 8.2–17.1) in women not living with HIV ( p < 0.003). The most common premalignant cervical lesions identified were low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (LSIL) in both women living with HIV (74.5%; n = 35) and women not living with HIV (80%; n = 20). HIV infection was significantly associated with premalignant lesions (aOR: 2.37, 95% CI: 1.27–4.42; p = 0.007). Conclusion Premalignant cervical lesions, particularly LSILs, were more common in HIV-positive women than in HIV-negative women, highlighting the need to strengthen the integration of cervical cancer prevention strategies into HIV care programs.

Abstract:Background: Women constitute 50% of people living with HIV, and cervical cancer (CCA) is among the top cancers for incidence and mortality, in the Caribbean. Women living with HIV (WLWH) are more susceptible and vulnerable to cancer due to their immune-compromised status. There is a pressing need for clinic-based CCA prevention in WLWH. Objective: A preliminary quality improvement evaluation of pilot CCA screening (Pap smear) targeting WLWH in Trinidad and Tobago from July 2020 to September 2021. Methodology: The electronic health information system from a large clinic was used to abstract Pap testing data. No personal identifiers were collected from the system to protect the privacy of individuals and abide by Trinidad and Tobago's data protection law. Evaluation of quality improvement of interventions approach was applied. Descriptive analyses were conducted using SPSS. Results: A total of 242 WLWH attended the women's clinic (WHC) from July 2020 to September 2021. The average age was 41.2 (age range: 20-72). Most (78.9%) reported sexual activity initiation between 15-29 years old, and 2 in 3 (66.1%) had sexual activity in the last 12 months. Among our participants, 67.8% were Afro-Caribbean, 20.7% were Mixed, and 5.8% were East Indian. The majority of WLWH completed at least secondary education (69.8%). Almost half were single (49.6%), and 59.5% were employed/self-employed. Additionally, 11.6% of patients reported a family history of CCA. The WHC provided Pap test to 91.7% of WLWH, 69.3% had normal Pap test results, 9.2% had abnormal Pap test results, and 0.4% were diagnosed with CCA in situ. Additionally, 8.6% found infections including Candida Albicans, Actinomyces, and Trichomoniasis. For those with abnormal Pap tests, timely follow-up care was provided to prevent further illnesses and cervical dysplasia. WLWH with cervical cancer in situ were scheduled/referred to treatments to prevent CCA progression. Discussion: A women's clinic approach to CCA screening was successful in providing Pap tests and promoting timely diagnostic and therapeutic care to prevent CCA. We thus recommend an implementation and dissemination science approach to create strategies for adopting, implementing, sustaining and disseminating clinic-based CCA screening and HPV-related cancer prevention to reduce cancer-related morbidity and mortality among WLWH. Abstract:Introduction Cervical cancer, which is the fourth most frequently diagnosed cancer among women globally, remains a significant health burden despite being preventable and treatable, exposing gaps in accessing prevention and control services. Adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) face heightened risk of persistent HPV infection, a primary cause of cervical cancer. The overlap of cervical cancer and HIV exacerbates public health challenges, especially in resource-limited areas, urging intensified efforts in bolstering prevention and control measures. Integrating HPV vaccination, cervical cancer screening, treatment of precancerous lesions and educational interventions into HIV care programs shows promise in effectively addressing this dual burden. Methods To evaluate the effectiveness of integrating cervical cancer prevention strategies within HIV care programs, a mixed-methods systematic review will be conducted. A comprehensive Boolean search for literature published between 2006 to present and indexed in PubMed, Cochrane Library, EBSCO Host, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar will be conducted, without imposing any language restrictions. This review will be conducted in alignment with the Joanna Briggs guidelines on systematic reviews together with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Data from eligible studies will be extracted and synthesized, and their quality assessed. Discussion There is limited understanding of the effectiveness of integrating cervical cancer prevention and HIV care in the real-world setting. While some studies touch on integration, focus tends to be on cervical cancer screening alone, neglecting vaccination, treatment of precancerous lesions, and education programs. Previous reviews on this focus are outdated, surpassing six years. This systematic review aims to fill these evidence gaps by thoroughly evaluating the challenges and opportunities associated with integrating the full complement of HPV prevention strategies and HIV care programs. The anticipated findings could enhance service delivery models aimed at reducing cervical cancer incidence and mortality among AGYW living with HIV. Abstract:Background: Kenyan women are disproportionately affected by HIV than their male counterparts, with a prevalence 5.5% compared to men whose prevalence is 2.9%. Women living with HIV (WLHIV) are more susceptible to cancer, in particular HPV-related cancers due to their immune-compromised status. In response, Kenyan Health Ministry recommends that women living with HIV (WLWH) be screened for cervical cancer annually by either visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) or visual inspection with Lugol's iodine (VILI), cytology and testing for HPV once every two years. Objective: Examining the rate of cervical cancer screening among women living with HIV (WLWH) in Kajiado County in 2022. Methodology: The electronic health information system was used to abstract data for WLWH in Kajiado county with 57 antiretroviral (ART) facilities. However, our analysis accessed data from 38 facilities whose data is captured in the health information system. Authorized health care workers from the County were requested to abstract redacted data from the health information system. No personal identifiers were collected from the system as away of protecting the privacy of individuals and abiding with the Kenya's data protection law. Authorization to access the county was obtained from the county's department of health while ethical approval was obtained from Mount Kenya University's Institutional Scientific and Ethics Review Committee. Results: In 2022, a total of 16,827 people living with HIV were enrolled for care at the 38 ART selected sites. 11,785 (70%) were women with an age range of 15 to 49 years. A total of 3342 WLWH, representing 28.36% of the target population, were screened by using VIA. Of those screened, 3240 (97%) tested negative, 78 (2.3%) had positive results while 24 (0.7%) had suspicious lesions. Conclusion: Our analysis shows low reach of cervical cancer screening with only 28.36% of the targeted women being screened in 2022. The only available testing method (VIA) is less robust as compared to cytology and HPV testing. Thus, cervical cancer screening is underutilized, and importantly the available screening suffers fromWe also found a gap in reporting of HPV testing in the county. We thus recommend implementation science with community engagement examining the barriers to cervical cancer screening and HPV testing as well as timely reporting from multistakeholder e.g., system, provider, patient, family and advocate perspectives. This multisectoral health system-services approach will better inform research, practice and policy for effective HPV-related cancer prevention and control to reduce cancer-related morbidity and mortality among WLWH,. Abstract:OBJECTIVE: We examined the effectiveness of a behavioral intervention in promoting cervical cancer screening among women living with HIV (WLWH) in Ghana.METHODS: A Mixed-methods study was conducted involving 83 WLWH, who were randomly assigned to an intervention group (n = 42) to receive voice-recorded messages based on the 3 R model (Reframing, Reprioritizing, and Reforming) or a control group (n = 41) to receive standard care. The primary outcomes were screening uptake and HPV prevalence. Other outcomes were the acceptability, appropriateness, and feasibility of the intervention.RESULTS: The intervention group had a 100% screening rate, and the control group had a 14.63% screening rate. The prevalent rate of high-risk (hr)-HPV genotypes among the women was 67.5% (95%C.I: 0.56-0.77). Over 48% of the participants had multiple hr-HPV genotypes, 64.29% had HPV16/18/45%, and 73.21% had HPV 31/33/45/52/58. Of the women (89.30%) who screened positive, 60% of them were diagnosed and treated for pre-cancer lesions. The intervention messages were acceptable (encourage proactive behavior), feasible (simple, easy to understand), and appropriate (helpful, informative). Facilitators and barriers to self-sampling were identified.CONCLUSION: Combining the 3 R model with self-sampling increases cervical cancer screening among WLWH.PRACTICE IMPLICATION: Healthcare professionals and policymakers can use this model to increase cervical cancer screening.

Abstract:This study investigates the dielectric properties of coagulated biological tissues at 2.45GHz in thermal treatments using microwave energy such as microwave coagulation therapy (MCT). These values are necessary to obtain accurate electromagnetic field or temperature distributions in numerical simulations of these treatments. This paper investigates the mechanism of changes in dielectric properties of biological tissues accompanying heat coagulation, by measuring the dielectric constants and water content ratios of tissues. Dielectric constants of heated biological tissues were observed to strongly depend on changes in their water content due to heat coagulation.
A Qualitative Exploration of Barriers to Treatment Among HPV-Positive Women in a Cervical Cancer Screening Study in Western Kenya

Abstract:Background: Cervical cancer screening through self-collected high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) testing has increased screening uptake, particularly in low-resource settings. Improvement ultimately depends, however, on women with positive results accessing follow-up treatment. Identifying the barriers to timely treatment is needed to tailor service delivery for maximum impact. Materials and methods: This qualitative study was conducted within a self-collected HPV screening trial in Migori County, Kenya. HPV-positive women were referred for no-cost cryotherapy treatment at the county hospital. Women not attending within 60 days of receiving HPV-positive results were randomly selected for in-depth interviews (IDIs). IDIs were coded and analyzed to develop an analytical framework and identify treatment barriers. Results: Eighty-one women were interviewed. IDIs showed a poor understanding of HPV and cervical cancer, impacting comprehension of screening results and treatment instructions. All 81 had not undergone treatment but reported intending to in the future. Eight reported seeking treatment unsuccessfully or not qualifying, primarily due to pregnancy. Transportation costs and long distances to the hospital were the most reported barriers to treatment. Other obstacles included work, household obligations, and fear of treatment. Impacts of social influences were mixed; some women reported their husbands prevented seeking treatment, others reported their husbands provided financial or emotional support. Few women experienced peer support. Conclusions: Women faced many barriers to treatment following HPV screening in rural Kenya. Transportation barriers highlight a need for local treatment capacity or screen-and-treat approaches. Ensuring women understand their results and how to seek treatment is essential to improving cervical cancer screening in low-resource settings.
