Efficacy of Celecoxib in Treating Symptoms of Viral Pharyngitis: A Double-Blind, Randomized Study of Celecoxib versus Diclofenac

Abstract:This study compared the efficacy and safety of the cyclooxygenase-2 specific inhibitor celecoxib with the conventional non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug diclofenac in the symptomatic treatment of viral pharyngitis. Adult patients from 27 study centers in Latin America were treated with oral doses of celecoxib 200 mg once daily or 200 mg twice daily, or diclofenac 75 mg twice daily for 5 days in a double-blind, randomized study. The primary efficacy assessment was ‘Throat Pain on Swallowing’ on day 3. In addition, secondary quality-of-life assessments were performed on days 3 and 5. All adverse events and treatment-emergent signs and symptoms were recorded. Data from 313 patients were evaluable for efficacy (105 celecoxib 200 mg once daily, 107 celecoxib 200 mg twice daily, 101 diclofenac 75 mg twice daily). The upper 95% confidence limits for the visual analog scale of ‘Throat Pain on Swallowing’ on day 3 for celecoxib 200 mg once daily relative to diclofenac 75 mg twice daily, and celecoxib 200 mg twice daily relative to diclofenac 75 mg twice daily were 9.26 and 7.83, respectively. All secondary efficacy and quality-of-life measures were clinically similar for the three treatment groups, and no statistically significant differences were detected. The incidences of treatment-emergent adverse events and withdrawals due to adverse events were similar for all groups, but numerically higher among patients taking diclofenac than celecoxib. More patients in the diclofenac group reported gastrointestinal complaints (7.3%) compared with those in the celecoxib groups (4.3% in the celecoxib 200 mg once-daily group and 3.4% in the celecoxib 200 mg twice-daily group). In conclusion, 5 days of treatment with celecoxib 200 mg once daily is as effective as diclofenac 75 mg twice daily in the symptomatic treatment of viral pharyngitis. Celecoxib 200 mg once daily is also as effective as celecoxib 200 mg twice daily in this condition.

Abstract:Oxidative stress represents the pathophysiological basis for most disorders, including reproductive issues. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is heterogeneous endocrine disorder of women characterized primarily by irregular menstrual cycles, hyper-androgenism, and ovulatory dysfunction. In the last decades, PCOS was recognized as a systemic silent inflammation and an oxidative disturbance-related disorder, exerting multifaceted symptoms, including metabolic. PCOS treatment should involve a personalized approach tailored to individual symptoms; however, the results are often unsatisfactory. Various supplementary treatments have been proposed to assist in the management and alleviation of PCOS symptoms. Cinnamon and ginger, known for millennia as herbs used in spices or traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases, are of interest in this study. The aim of this study is to evaluate and investigate the effects of cinnamon and ginger in PCOS patients. Using relevant keywords we searched through PubMed/MEDLINE, Science Direct, Google Scholar and Web of science to find animal studies, pre-clinical, and clinical studies which were then reviewed for usage. Out of all of the reviewed studies a total of 65 studies were included in this review article. Cinnamon and ginger can affect hormonal status, lipid profile, obesity, and insulin resistance by mitigating oxidative stress and inflammation. Generally, based on current clinical evidence, it was revealed that supplementation with cinnamon or ginger had a useful impact in patients with PCOS. This review summarizes the antioxidative effects of ginger and cinnamon in PCOS treatment, highlighting their potential benefits in other oxidative stress-related pathologies.

Abstract:Caffeine (CAF) and maltodextrin (MALT) mouth rinses (MR) improve exercise performance. The current experiment aims to determine the effect of CAF and MALT MR on cognitive performance and brain activity. Ten healthy male subjects (age 27 ± 3 yr) completed three experimental trials. Each trial included four Stroop tasks: two familiarization tasks, and one task before and one task after an MR period. The reaction time (in milliseconds) and accuracy (percent) of simple, congruent, and incongruent stimuli were assessed. Electroencephalography was applied throughout the experiment to record brain activity. The amplitudes and latencies of the P300 were determined during the Stroop tasks before and after the MR period. Subjects received MR with CAF (0.3 g/25 ml), MALT (1.6 g/25 ml), or placebo (PLAC) in a randomized, double-blind, crossover design. During MR, the brain imaging technique standardized low-resolution brain electromagnetic tomography was applied. Magnitude-based inferences showed that CAF MR is likely trivial (63.5%) and likely beneficial (36.4%) compared with PLAC MR, and compared with MALT MR likely beneficial to reaction time on incongruent stimuli (61.6%). Additionally, both the orbitofrontal and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex were activated only during CAF MR, potentially explaining the likely beneficial effect on reaction times. MALT MR increased brain activity only within the orbitofrontal cortex. However, this brain activation did not alter the reaction time. Furthermore, no significant differences in the accuracy of stimuli responses were observed between conditions. In conclusion, only CAF MR exerted a likely beneficial effect on reaction time due to the subsequent activation of both the orbitofrontal and dorsolateral prefrontal cortexes.
The Effects of Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Vitamin E Co-Supplementation on Indices of Insulin Resistance and Hormonal Parameters in Patients with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial

Abstract:This study was conducted to determine the effects of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E co-supplementation on indices of insulin resistance and hormonal parameters in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was done on 68 women diagnosed with PCOS according to the Rotterdam criteria aged 18-40 years old. Participants were randomly assigned into 2 groups to receive either 1 000 mg omega-3 fatty acids from flaxseed oil containing 400 mg α-Linolenic acid plus 400 IU vitamin E supplements (n=34) or placebo (n=34) for 12 weeks. Hormonal parameters were quantified at the beginning of the study and after 12-week intervention. After 12 weeks of intervention, compared to the placebo, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E co-supplementation resulted in a significant decrease in insulin (-1.0±3.5 vs. +2.7±6.6 µIU/mL, P=0.004), homeostasis model of assessment-estimated insulin resistance (-0.2±0.8 vs. +0.6±1.5, P=0.005), homeostasis model of assessment-estimated B cell function (-4.3±14.3 vs. +10.5±24.5, P=0.004) and a significant increase in quantitative insulin sensitivity check index (+0.006±0.02 vs. -0.01±0.04, P=0.008). Supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids plus vitamin E led to significant reductions in serum total testosterone (-0.5±0.7 vs. -0.1±0.5 ng/mL, P=0.008) and free testosterone (-1.2±2.1 vs. -0.2±1.7, P=0.04) compared to the placebo group. We did not observe any significant effect of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E co-supplementation on fasting plasma glucose and other hormonal profiles. Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E co-supplementation for 12 weeks in PCOS women significantly improved indices of insulin resistance, total and free testosterone.

Abstract:Abstract Background Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine abnormalities in women. Due to the side effects of drugs, the tendency to use natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents to regulate metabolism, hyperinsulinemia, and hyperlipidemia in PCOS patients has been increased. This review aimed to investigate the role of herbal substances on the treatment of PCOS. Methods The present review was carried out using keywords such as polycystic ovary syndrome and/or PCOS and/or herb. Databases including Web of Science, PubMed, and Science Direct were used to collect all related articles published from 1990 to 2019. We excluded studies unrelated to the PCOS and medical herbs. Results Overall, 361 records were identified through database searching. After primary screening and the full-texts assessment, 323 records were excluded, and 38 articles were finally included. The results indicate that some medicinal herbs may have a key role in treating PCOS. The compounds in these medical herbs can affect lipid profiles ( Aloe vera , chamomile, and cinnamon), insulin resistance (cinnamon, chamomile, Aloe vera , and Camellia sinensis ), blood glucose ( Aloe vera , cinnamon, and Camellia sinensis ), hormones ( Aloe vera , silymarin, chamomile, fenugreek, Camellia sinensis , Heracleum persicum , Potentilla , Mentha spicata , Foeniculum vulgar , licorice, and Marrubium ), and ovarian tissue ( Aloe vera , chamomile, Camellia sinensis , Mentha spicata , and silymarin). Conclusion Natural substances such as Aloe vera , cinnamon, green tea, fenugreek, and silymarin can be used as a new supportive care for PCOS. Further clinical trials are warranted to confirm their benefits and safety.

Association of Herbal Tea and Follicle-Stimulating Hormone, Anthropometric Parameters, and Fasting Blood Glucose Levels Among Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Women: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Clinical Trials

Abstract:This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) aimed to test our hypothesis that herbal tea may improve anthropometric parameters, metabolic factors, and hormone levels in women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). A literature search was conducted on Information Sciences Institute, Medline (PubMed), Scopus, Embase, and Google Scholar, up to March 2023 without applying language or date restrictions. RCTs that assigned herbal tea vs. placebo on PCOS women and evaluated changes in anthropometric measurements, metabolic indices, or hormonal profiles were included. Six RCTs with 235 PCOS women (119 in the intervention and 116 in the control group) were included. Meta-analysis showed that herbal tea consumption led to significant decreases in weight (weighted mean difference [WMD], -2.02 kg; 95% confidence interval [CI], -3.25, -0.80), body mass index (BMI) (WMD, -0.88 kg/m2; 95% CI, -1.47, -0.28) and fasting blood glucose (FBG) (WMD, -6.47 mg/dL; 95% CI, -8.49, -4.45), compared to the control group. Herbal tea supplementation has also significantly increased follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) concentration (WMD, 0.56 IU/L; 95% CI, 0.17, 0.95). Meanwhile, the effect of herbal tea on the waist/hip ratio, hip circumference, waist circumference, body fat, fasting insulin, FBG/insulin ratio, luteinizing hormone, total testosterone, and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate was not significant. Herbal tea might be a potential supplemental therapy to manage weight, BMI, FBG, and FSH in PCOS women. Further large randomized clinical trials are recommended to affirm these findings.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids Improve Glucose Metabolism without Effects on Obesity Values and Serum Visfatin Levels in Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common female endocrine disorder. Affected women present a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of omega-3 fatty acids on obesity status, insulin resistance, and serum levels of visfatin in PCOS patients.METHODS: This double-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted on 61 women who were diagnosed with PCOS, had a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 40 kg/m(2), and were from 20-35 years old. Thirty of the subjects had taken four 1-g omega-3 fatty acids capsules per day, providing 1200 mg n-3 long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LC PUFA), and 31 were given a placebo over 8 weeks. Fasting blood samples, anthropometric measurements, and dietary intake data were collected at the baseline and at the end of the trial. Data were analyzed by independent t test, paired t test, Pearson correlation test, and analysis of covariance.RESULTS: Omega-3 fatty acids had no significant effects on weight, BMI, waist circumference, and waist to hip ratio at the end of the study. Omega-3 fatty acids significantly decreased glucose (by 11.4%, p < 0.001), insulin (by 8.4%, p < 0.05), and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance (by 21.8%, p < 0.001) compared with placebo. Changes in serum visfatin levels were not significant in either of the groups.CONCLUSION: Omega-3 fatty acids improved insulin sensitivity in PCOS patients. This beneficial effect was not associated with alteration in anthropometric measurements and serum visfatin levels.

Abstract:Background: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), one of the most common causes of endocrine disorders with irregular menstruation, is accompanied by an increase in androgen and polycystic ovarian. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of weight loss regimen with and without supplementation. L-carnitine affects lipid profile, insulin, and hormone resistance indices. Methods: This double-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted over women within the age range of 18 to 45 years, who referred to Yazd Diabetes Center in 2019. The participants were divided into the experimental and control groups. The intervention group received 1000 mg L-carnitine (LG = 28) and the placebo group (PG = 28) received the placebo daily. All people followed a low celery diet for 12 weeks. Anthropometric indices and body composition (weight, body mass index, waist circumference, hip circumference, fat mass, and free fat mass) were measured prior to and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 22. The independent sample t-test was used to compare the mean changes between the LG and PG. Results: At the end of the study period, patients treated with L-carnitine showed a significant decrease in waist circumference compared to the PG (change: -1 ± 3.15, P = 0.001) and no significant difference was observed between the two groups in terms of other anthropometrics indices and body composition including fat mass, body mass index, and hip circumference (P > 0.05). Conclusion: The present study showed that 1000 mg oral L-carnitine had no significant effect on body weight, body mass index, body composition, and hip circumference, but had a significant effect on waist circumference size.

Abstract:Fusarium oxysporum, a causal agent of Fusarium wilt, is one of the most important fungal pathogens worldwide, and detection of F. oxysporum DNA at the forma specialis level is crucial for disease diagnosis and control. In this study, two novel F. oxysporum f. sp. raphani (For)‐specific primer sets were designed, FOR1‐F/FOR1‐R and FOR2‐F/FOR2‐R, to target FOQG_17868 and FOQG_17869 ORFs, respectively, which were selected based on the genome comparison of other formae speciales of F. oxysporum including conglutinans, cubense, lycopersici, melonis, and pisi. The primer sets FOR1‐F/FOR1‐R and FOR2‐F/FOR2‐R that amplified a 610‐ and 425‐bp DNA fragment, respectively, were specific to For isolates which was confirmed using a total of 40 F. oxysporum isolates. From infected plants, the FOR2‐F/FOR2‐R primer set directly detected the DNA fragment of For isolates even when the radish plants were collected in their early stage of disease development. Although the loci targeted by the For‐specific primer sets were not likely involved in the pathogenesis, the primer set FOR2‐F/FOR2‐R is available for the determination of pathogenicity of radish‐infecting F. oxysporum isolates. This study is the first report providing novel primer sets to detect F. oxysporum f. sp. raphani.
Precincts and Prospects in the Use of Focus Groups in Social and Behavioral Science Research

Abstract:In recent years, the importance of qualitative approaches in understanding social realities has been increasingly recognized by social and behavioural scientists. Many researchers have begun questioning the adequacy of an exclusively quantitative approach in social and behavioural research. Among the various qualitative methods, focus group methodology has become very popular and is being extensively used. Powell and Single (1996) define a focus group as a group of individuals selected and assembled by researchers to discuss and comment on, from personal experience, the topic that is the subject of the research. Fern (1982) also defines focus groups as small group discussions, addressing a specific topic, which usually involves six to 12 participants, either matched or varied on specific characteristics of interest to the researcher. There are many definitions of a focus group in the literature, but features like organised discussion (Kitzinger, 1994), collective activity (Powell & Single, 1996), social events (Goss & Leinbach, 1996) and interaction (Kitzinger, 1995) identify the contribution that focus groups make to social research. Some researchers characterize focus groups as group interviews. For instance, Hughes and DuMont (1993) define focus groups as in-depth group interviews employing relatively homogenous groups to provide information around topics specified by the researchers. Others define them as group discussions. For instance, Krueger (1998) defines focus groups as a carefully planned discussion designed to obtain perceptions on a defined environment. It is important that a distinction is made between focus groups and group interviewing. In group interviewing, a number of people are simultaneously interviewed. However, focus groups rely on interaction within the group based on topics that are supplied by the researcher (Morgan, 1997). Thus, the key characteristic that distinguishes focus groups from group interviews is the insight and data produced by the interaction between participants (Gibbs, 1997). Focus groups originated in sociology (Merton & Kendall, 1946) and were primarily used by market researchers (Templeton, 1987). They have been found to be most effective for learning about opinions and attitudes, pilot testing materials for assessments and generating recommendations (Smithson, 2000). While focus groups are an established method in market research (Templeton, 1987), their use in social science or other related disciplines is relatively new (Smithson, 2000). Khan et al. (1991) suggest that Merton and Kendall's (1946) classic article on the focused interview set the parameters for focus group development. According to Kitzinger (1995), the idea behind focus group methodology is that group processes can help people to explore and clarify their views in ways that would be less easily accessible in a one to one interview. When group dynamics work well, the participants work alongside the researcher, taking the research in new and often unexpected directions. Group work also helps researchers tap into the many different forms of communication that people use in day-to-day interaction, including jokes, anecdotes, teasing, and arguing. Gaining access to such a variety of communication is useful because people's knowledge and attitudes are not entirely encapsulated in reasoned responses to direct questions. In this sense, focus groups often reach aspects of knowledge that other methods cannot reach; this can reveal dimensions of understanding that often remain untapped by more conventional data collection techniques (Kitzinger, 1995). Although focus groups are gaining prominence as a research tool, they are saddled with many limitations that could confound research outcome if not noticed and addressed. Metabolic response to folate supplementation in overweight women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial

Abstract:Scope: This study was conducted to determine the effects of folate supplementation on metabolic profiles in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods and results: This randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted among 81 obese women (weight range: 65-110 kg) aged 18-40 year old diagnosed with PCOS. Participants were randomly assigned to three groups receiving: (1) Folate-1: 1 mg/day folate supplements (n = 27); (2) Folate-5: 5 mg/day folate supplements (n = 27), and (3) placebo (n = 27) for 8 weeks. Fasting blood samples were taken at baseline and after 8 weeks' intervention to quantify glucose metabolism and lipid concentrations. Folate supplementation (5 mg), compared with folate-1 and placebo, resulted in reduced plasma homocysteine (p-interaction = 0.009), homeostasis model of assessment-insulin resistance score (p-interaction = 0.01), and total cholesterol/HDL-C ratio (p-interaction = 0.01). Furthermore, we found a significant difference in mean change of serum total cholesterol (p-interaction = 0.01), LDL- (p-interaction = 0.007), and non-HDL-cholesterol levels (p = 0.01) in the folate-5 group compared with folate-1 and placebo. Conclusion: 5 mg/day folate supplementation for 8 weeks among women with PCOS had beneficial effects on metabolic profiles.

Methods: The PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases were searched for RCTs comparing polyphenols to placebo. Data were extracted from published reports, and quality assessment was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. Endpoints included were: changes in levels of serum insulin, changes in BMI, LH, and testosterone levels. We used a random-effects model to calculate the Mean Difference (MD), Standardized Mean Difference (SMD), and 95% confidence interval (CI). Heterogeneity was examined with the Cochrane Q test and I2 statistics: p values inferior to 0.05 and I2 > 25% were considered significant for heterogeneity. Results: A total of 15 studies involving 916 patients were included. Of all participants, 445 (49%) received polyphenols. Polyphenols resulted in a significant decrease in serum insulin level (MD -2.49 [-3.72, -1.25] 95% CI; p < 0.0001, I2 = 64%), in comparison to placebo. In addition, BMI levels were significantly reduced in patients treated with polyphenols when compared to placebo (MD -0.12 [-0.18, -0.06] 95% CI; p = 0.0002, I2 = 0%). There was a reduction in LH levels in the intervention group, when compared with the baseline levels to the final levels (MD -0.87 [-1.54, 0.20] 95% CI; p = 0.01, I2 = 46%). The decrease in testosterone levels was not significantly different when comparing polyphenols and placebo (SMD -0.14 [-0.53, 0.25] 95% CI; p = 0.48, I2 = 73%). Conclusion: This meta-analysis provided evidence of the effectiveness of polyphenols in reducing serum insulin, LH and BMI in women with polycystic ovary syndrome compared to placebo. There was no statistically significant difference in the reduction of testosterone levels between polyphenols and placebo. This study represents the most current evidence on this promising treatment. Effect of metformin on insulin levels, blood sugar, and body mass index in polycystic ovarian syndrome cases

Abstract:INTRODUCTION: Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) presents as an extremely heterogeneous condition that includes chronic anovulation, hyperandrogenism, hyperlipidemia, and hyperinsulinemia along with enlarged polycystic ovaries. Insulin resistance is thought to be a pathogenic factor in women having PCOS along with increased incidence of metabolic disturbances.MATERIALS AND METHODS: After obtaining ethical clearance, the girls of various colleges in Patiala were verbally sensitized to the symptoms of PCOS, and then given semistructured proformas subsequent to written informed consent. The students suspected on self-evaluation, and on evaluation of the proformas were investigated in the Out Patient Department, and patients reporting to Obstetrics and Gynecology Department with similar symptoms were also included after written informed consent. The patients were divided with simple randomization into two groups of 25 each. Group 1 (treatment group) was put on metformin therapy for three months (500 mg thrice a day), and Group 2 (control group) were given placebo thrice a day for the same duration. The patients were followed up after three months of metformin therapy (500 mg thrice a day) in Group 1, and placebo therapy in Group 2. Body weight, fasting blood glucose, blood glucose after 2 h of 75 g of glucose, and fasting serum insulin levels were assessed initially, and then after three months.RESULTS: The mean age of patients in the present study was 21.46 ± 4.45 years. About 54% patients in the present study had BMI ≥25 kg/m<sup>2</sup>. About 68% of the patients had menstrual irregularity and PCO on ultrasonography (USG). About 44% patients in Group 1 (metformin) had increased insulin levels initially (>20 μU/ml), which were decreased to 16% after three months of metformin therapy. About 52% patients in Group 2 had increased insulin levels that were decreased to 48% after the placebo therapy.CONCLUSION: It has been concluded from this study that metformin significantly lowers insulin levels in patients with PCOS; in both obese and nonobese; which points towards its potential usefulness in treatment of PCOS patients, though it had no significant effect on body mass index in 12 weeks.

Abstract:Background and objective: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal disorder that leads to ovarian cysts, irregular ovulation, and hormonal swings in women. It is a complex and heterogeneous condition that affects 4 to 20% of women of reproductive age worldwide and relates to reproductive, metabolic, and psychosocial dysfunction. Dietary and lifestyle modifications have been proposed to play a central role in the management of PCOS. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive systemic overview of the existing literature on the effects of intermittent fasting (IF) and calorie restriction (CR) regimens on disease markers of PCOS. Designs and methods: Several databases, such as CINAHL, Cochrane, EBSCOhost, EMBASE, Google Scholar, ProQuest Medical, PubMed/MEDLINE, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were searched for clinical trials and observational studies examined the effects of IF regimens such as time-restricted eating and Ramadan model of IF (RIF) on glucose homeostasis, lipid profile, inflammatory and hormonal markers in patients with PCOS. Results: This systematic review solicited three articles, comprising a collective sample size of 75 females diagnosed with PCOS. The studies were published between 2015 to 2023 and were undertaken in three countries: China, Turkey, and Iran. The research articles examined the effects of intervention with IF and CR on PCOS-related parameters such as anthropometric measures and biochemical tests which included enzymes, glycemic control, lipid profile, hormonal, and oxidative stress, and inflammatory markers. The articles yielded mixed results, with two of them showing significant changes across all tested parameters. One of the three studies did not exhibit any significant changes. Conclusion: Very limited studies examined the relationship between IR and CR with markers of PCOS. Further well-controlled studies need to be undertaken the combined results from the limited studies illustrate the intricate and diverse nature of IF, including the RIF, and its influence on measurements of body composition and biochemical markers related to PCOS.

Abstract:With the development of information fusion, a new theory based on Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT) was widely applied to lots of aspects. Owing to the difficulty of handling conflict evidence combination when tracking multiple moving objects under occlusion conditions, a DSmT method with anti-occluding objects tracking in complex background is proposed based on occlusion judgment prediction, and the corresponding computing examples of generating hyper-power sets and tracking under different occluding conditions are analyzed and discussed in this paper. Calculation results show that the method is proven to be correct and effective in tracking occluded objects. When analyzing multi-objects tracking under very complex environment, it will lay a firm foundation for further solving information fusion of conflict evidences. using the same objective and universal interpretation of the phenomena under consideration; therefore, it cannot handle conflicts. In most practical fusion applications based on DST theory, ad-hoc or heuristic techniques must always be added to the fusion process to manage or reduce the possibility of high degree conflict between the sources. Otherwise, the fusion result leads to false conclusions or cannot provide a reliable result at all. To overcome these limitations, a recent theory of plausible and paradoxical reasoning has been developed. The Dezert-Smarandache theory (DSmT) can be considered as a generalization of the DST theory in (8). In this paper, a sequential particles filter approach for multiple targets tracking using multiple cues will be proposed, and the different cues are combined based on the DSmT. If the targets are partially or completely occluded, the conflicts and paradoxes that arise between the measured cues are assessed and used in the tracking process. The proposed scheme is simple and provides an effective tracking in cluttered scenes. By the simulation computing and discussion, result shows that the tracking method proposed is excellent and effective for objects tracking in some complex environment.
