Abstract:In recent years, rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have received much attention. However, the disproportionation effect of Mn(2+)seriously affects the capacity retention of ZIBs during cycling. Here, the capacity retention of the Mn(3)O(4)cathode is improved by effective valence engineering. The valence engineering of Mn(3)O(4)is caused by bulk oxygen defects, which are in situ derived from the Mn-metal organic framework during carbonization. Bulk oxygen defects can change the (MnO6) octahedral structure, which improves structural stability and inhibits the dissolution of Mn2+. The ZIB assembled from bulk oxygen defects Mn3O4@C nanorod arrays (O-d-Mn3O4@C NA/CC) exhibits an ultra-long cycle life, reaching 84.1 mAh g(-1)after 12 000 cycles at 5 A g(-1)(up to 95.7% of the initial capacity). Furthermore, the battery has a high specific capacity of 396.2 mAh g(-1)at 0.2 A g(-1). Ex situ characterization results show that initial Mn(3)O(4)is converted to ramsdellite MnO(2)for insertion and extraction of H(+)and Zn2+. First-principles calculations show that the charge density of Mn(3+)increases greatly, which improves the conductivity. In addition, the flexible quasi-solid-state ZIB is successfully assembled using O-d-Mn3O4 @ C NA/CC. Valence engineering induced by bulk oxygen defects can help develop advanced cathodes for aqueous ZIB.
Inducing preferential intercalation of Zn2+ in MnO2 with abundant oxygen defects for high-performance aqueous zinc-ion batteries

Abstract:Unfavorable proton intercalation leading to the generation and shedding of side reaction products is still a major challenge for the performance of manganese-based aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). In this study, we present a porous oxygen-deficient MnO 2 (O d -MnO 2 ) synthesized through n -butyllithium reduction treatment to induce preferential Zn 2+ intercalation, thereby effectively mitigating the adverse consequences of proton intercalation for high-performance AZIBs. Remarkably, O d -MnO 2 as a cathode material for AZIBs exhibits a specific capacity of 341 mA h g −1 at 0.1 A g −1 and 139 mA h g −1 at 5 A g −1 , and outstanding long-term stability with a capacity retention of 85.4% for over 1200 cycles at 1 A g −1 . Moreover, the Zn/O d -MnO 2 pouch cell displays decent durability with a capacity retention of ∼90% for over 200 cycles at 1C. Our study opens new opportunities for the rational design of high-performance cathode materials by regulating the electronic structure and optimizing the energy storage process for rechargeable AZIBs.

Abstract:Zwitterionic betaine intercalated MnO2 is synthesized by an ion exchange reaction. The zwitterionic properties of betaine stabilize the layered structure of MnO2 and induce rapid ion diffusion. The resulting MnO2 cathode demonstrates high specific capacity, excellent rate performance, fast reaction kinetics, and extended cycle life, making it an ideal cathode material for aqueous zinc‐ion batteries. In this study, a novel approach is introduced to address the challenges associated with structural instability and sluggish reaction kinetics of δ‐MnO2 in aqueous zinc ion batteries. By leveraging zwitterionic betaine (Bet) for intercalation, a departure from traditional cation intercalation methods, Bet‐intercalated MnO2 (MnO2‐Bet) is synthesized. The positively charged quaternary ammonium groups in Bet form strong electrostatic interactions with the negatively charged oxygen atoms in the δ‐MnO2 layers, enhancing structural stability and preventing layer collapse. Concurrently, the negatively charged carboxylate groups in Bet facilitate the rapid diffusion of H+/Zn2+ ions through their interactions, thus improving reaction kinetics. The resulting MnO2‐Bet cathode demonstrates high specific capacity, excellent rate capability, fast reaction kinetics, and extended cycle life. This dual‐function intercalation strategy significantly optimizes the electrochemical performance of δ‐MnO2, establishing it as a promising cathode material for advanced aqueous zinc ion batteries.

Enabling stable MnO2 matrix for aqueous zinc-ion battery cathodes

Abstract:The primary issue faced by MnO2 cathode materials for aqueous Zn-ion batteries (AZIBs) is the occurrence of structural transformations during cycling, resulting in unstable capacity output. Pre-intercalating closely bonded ions into the MnO2 structures has been demonstrated as an effective approach to combat this. However, mechanisms of the pre-intercalation remain unclear. Herein, two distinct δ-MnO2 (K0.28MnO2·0.1H2O and K0.21MnO2·0.1H2O) are prepared with varying amounts of pre-intercalated K+ and applied as cathodes for AZIBs. The as-prepared K0.28MnO2·0.1H2O cathodes exhibit relatively high specific capacity (300 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1), satisfactory rate performance (35% capacity recovery at 5 A g−1) and competent cyclability (ca. 95% capacity retention after 1000 cycles at 2 A g−1), while inferior cyclability and rate performance are observed in K0.21MnO2·0.1H2O. A stable δ-MnO2 phase is observed upon cycling, with the reversible deposition of Zn4SO4(OH)6·5H2O (ZSH), ion migration between electrodes and synchronous transition of Mn valence states. This work firstly and systematically reveals the role of the pre-intercalated ions via density functional theory simulations and show that above a threshold K/Mn ratio of ca. 0.26, the K ions suppress structural transformations by stabilizing the δ phase. To demonstrate its commercial potential, AZIBs with high-loading active materials are fabricated, which deliver adequate energy and power densities compared with most commercial devices.

Abstract:Reconstructed MnO2 surface enables hydrophilic‐zincophobic shielding and simultaneous oxygen vacancy generation that facilitates H+ preferential Grotthuss transfer and accelerated desolvation kinetics while suppressing Zn2+ accommodation, synergistically boosting ultrastable cycle stability, improved rate capability, significantly reduced dissolution, and strengthened lattice stability for high‐performance Zn‐MnO2 batteries. Hollandite‐type manganese dioxide (α‐MnO2) is recognized as a promising cathode material upon high‐performance aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (ZIBs) owing to the high theoretical capacities, high working potentials, unique Zn2+/H+ co‐insertion chemistry, and environmental friendliness. However, its practical applications limited by Zn2+ accommodation, where the strong coulombic interaction and sluggish kinetics cause significant lattice deformation, fast capacity degradation, insufficient rate capability, and undesired interface degradation. It remains challenging to accurately modulate H+ intercalation while suppressing Zn2+ insertion for better lattice stability and electrochemical kinetics. Herein, proton Grotthuss transfer channels are first tunneled by shielding MnO2 with hydrophilic‐zincophobic heterointerface, fulfilling the H+‐dominating diffusion with the state‐of‐the‐art ZIBs performance. Local atomic structure and theoretical simulation confirm that surface‐engineered α‐MnO2 affords to the synergy of Mn electron t2g–eg activation, oxygen vacancy enrichment, selective H+ Grotthuss transfer, and accelerated desolvation kinetics. Consequently, fortified α‐MnO2 achieves prominent low current density cycle stability (≈100% capacity retention at 1 C after 400 cycles), remarkable long‐lifespan cycling performance (98% capacity retention at 20 C after 12 000 cycles), and ultrafast rate performance (up to 30 C). The study exemplifies a new approach of heterointerface engineering for regulation of H+‐dominating Grotthuss transfer and lattice stabilization in α‐MnO2 toward reliable ZIBs.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have received great attention due to their environmental friendliness and high safety. However, cathode materials with slow diffusion dynamics and dissolution in aqueous electrolytes hindered their further application. To address these issues, in this work, a MnO2-2 cathode doped with 1.12 wt % Ag was prepared, and after 1000 cycles of charge/discharge at 1 A·g-1, the capacity remained at 114 mA·h·g-1 (only 57.7 mA·h·g-1 for pristine MnO2). Cyclic voltammetry (CV), the galvanostatic intermittent titration technique (GITT), the electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) method, and density functional theory (DFT) calculation on pristine δ-MnO2 and MnO2-2 also proved the superior performance of MnO2-2. More investigation disclosed that its superior performance is attributed to the improved diffusion kinetics of the cathode brought by the enriched oxygen vacancy defects due to the formation of Ag-O-Mn bonds. Meanwhile, the kinetic mechanism of the Zn/MnO2-2 cell can be described as a reversible process of the dissolution/precipitation of the ZHS phase and consequent insertion/extraction of Zn2+ and H3O+. Herein, the primary issues of ZIB cathode materials have been addressed and solved to a certain extent. More importantly, such a modification in the design of the advanced manganese-based aqueous ZIB cathode materials can provide further insight and facilitate the development and application of this large-scale energy storage system in the near future.

Abstract:Ion migration and electron transmission are vital for manganese dioxides in zinc ion batteries. δ-MnO 2 is believed to be more suitable for zinc ion storage due to its layered structure. However, the performance of δ-MnO 2 is still hampered by the frustrating conductivity and sluggish reaction kinetics. Herein, atomic engineering is adopted to modify δ-MnO 2 at the atomic level to obtain oxygen-deficient δ-MnO 2 (N–MnO 2 ). Meanwhile, hollow carbon microtubes (HCMTs) obtained from green and renewable energy grass are proposed as cross-connected electron transmission matrices (CETMs) for MnO 2 . The biomass-derived CETMs not only optimize reaction kinetics but also facilitate the ion storage performance of MnO 2 . The as-prepared N–MnO 2 @HCMTs exhibit high rate capability and enhanced pseudocapacitve behavior contributed by the oxygen-deficient N–MnO 2 and CETMs. Ex situ analysis reveals the reversible insertion/extraction of H + and Zn 2+ in N–MnO 2 @HCMTs during charge/discharge processes. Moreover, the quasi-solid-state N–MnO 2 @HCMTs//Zn cells are assembled and they deliver extraordinary discharge capacity and a long cyclic lifespan. This study may provide insights for further exploration of cathode materials in AZIBs and promote the large-scale production of aqueous Zn–MnO 2 batteries.

Abstract:The design and synthesis of manganese oxide-based materials with high-rate performance and long cycle life is a major challenge for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). This research reports the presence of a synergistic collaboration between vacancies, lattice water and nickel ions on enhancing the hydrated protons hopping via the Grotthuss mechanism for high-performance zinc ion batteries. The Grotthuss mechanism allows for the efficient transfer of a proton charge without the actual movement of the molecular over long distances, resulting in high ionic conductivity. NiMn3O7 · 3H2O achieves a capacity of 318 mAh g-1 under 200 mA g-1 and 121 mAh g-1 under 5 A g-1 with a retention of 91% after 4,000 cycles. The relationship between the remarkable performance and Grotthuss topochemistry is investigated using techniques including synchrotron X-ray absorption spectroscopy and density functional theory. Protons prefer to bond with O2- ions on the Mn-O layer, and proton transfer is favored in the presence of vacancies. The continuous hopping of protons within the host material induces periodic, temporary local structural changes in the lattice. This dynamic behaviour alters the energy barriers for ions intercalation and deintercalation. Nickel ions facilitate the ongoing mobility of hydrated protons via Grotthuss hopping by preserving the system's electrical neutrality, which counterbalances the dynamic changes caused by proton migration. This study provides insight into the Grotthuss conduction mechanism for the development of high-performance cathode materials in AZIBs.

Abstract:Aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are in a period of vigorous development due to their unparalleled advantages, including low cost, high safety and environmentally friendly etc. However, the structural damage, dissolution, low conductivity of electrode materials and slow diffusion kinetics of Zn2+ ions carriers significantly limit the development of AZIBs. Herein, for the first time, we propose a general strategy for constructing multifunctional intramolecular hydrogen bond network through N-H∙∙∙O (NH4+) and O-H∙∙∙O (H2O) bonds while suppressing material dissolution (V, Mn species), enhancing the stability of layered structures, and accelerating the rapid diffusion of protons. To better reveal the hydrogen bond and enhanced proton transport, a range of in/ex-situ characterization techniques in conjunction with DFT calculations have been implemented. As a proof of concept, this strategy has proven to be universally applicable, with both vanadium oxide (400.6 Wh kg−1/6489.3 W kg−1, 85% over 4000 cycles) and manganese oxide (433.6 Wh kg−1/2972.8 W kg−1, 100% after 500 cycles) achieving significant electrochemical performance improvements, particularly in terms of rate performance and cycle performance, which are better than most comparable materials. The insights obtained in this study have deepened the understanding based on the hydrogen bond in AZIBs and also brought new opportunities for improving the energy density of other types of aqueous batteries in the future.

Promoting Proton Migration Kinetics by Ni 2+ Regulating Enables Improved Aqueous Zn‐MnO 2 Batteries

Abstract:The energy storage behaviors of MnO2 for aqueous Zn‐MnO2 batteries mainly depend on the Zn2+/H+ intercalation but are limited by poor ion/electron migration dynamics and stability. Herein, a strategy is proposed that promoting proton migration kinetics ameliorates H+ storage activity by introducing Ni2+ into γ‐MnO2 (Ni‐MnO2). Ni2+ can lower the diffusion barrier of H+ and selectively induce the ion intercalation, thereby alleviating the electrostatic interaction with the lattice. Moreover, Ni2+ enables the adjacent [MnO6] octahedrons to have better electron conductivity. The Ni‐MnO2 exhibits superior rate performance (nearly four times specific capacity compared with MnO2) and ultra‐long‐cycle stability (100% of capacity retention after 11 000 cycles at 3.0 A g−1). The calculation indicates that the Ni‐MnO2 allows H+ migrate rapidly along the one‐dimensional tunnel due to reduction of the activation energy caused by Ni2+ regulating, thus achieving excellent reaction kinetics. This work brings great potential for the development of high‐performance aqueous Zn‐MnO2 batteries. Ni2+‐doped MnO2 is successfully synthesized for aqueous ZIBs. The introduction of Ni2+ can effectively regulate the H+ storage behavior and endow the Ni‐MnO2 electrode material with excellent proton migration kinetics. Meanwhile, Ni2+ could lower the diffusion barrier of H+ and selectively induce the ion intercalation. Density functional theory clearly reveals that Ni2+ doping significantly ameliorates structural stability and enhances conductivity of electrons.

Hybrid Superlattice-Triggered Electron-Entropy Stimulation and Selective Proton Grotthuss-Intercalation in Polymer-Intercalated δ-MnO2 for High-Performance Zn-MnO2 Battery.

Abstract:A great deal of attention has been paid on layered manganese dioxide (δ-MnO2) as promising cathode candidate for aqueous zinc-ion battery (ZIB) due to the excellent theoretical capacity, high working voltage and Zn2+/H+ co-intercalation mechanism. However, caused by the insertion of Zn2+, the strong coulomb interaction and sluggish diffusion kinetics have resulted in significant structure deformation, insufficient cycle stability and limited rate capability. And it is still far from satisfactory to accurately modulate H+ intercalation for superior electrochemical kinetics. Herein, the terrace-shape δ-MnO2 hybrid superlattice by polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) pre-intercalation (PVP-MnO2) was proposed with the state-of-the-art ZIBs performance. Local atomic structure characterization and theoretical calculations have been pioneering in confirming the hybrid superlattice-triggered synergy of electron entropy stimulation and selective H+ Grotthuss-like intercalation. Accordingly, PVP-MnO2 hybrid superlattice exhibits prominent specific capacity (317.2 mAh g-1 at 0.125 A g-1), significant rate performance (106.1 mAh g-1 at 12.5 A g-1), and remarkable cycle stability at high rate (~100% capacity retention after 20,000 cycles at 10 A g-1). Therefore, rational design of interlayer configuration paves the pathways to the development of MnO2 superlattice for advanced Zn-MnO2 batteries.

Abstract:A new 2D superstructural cathode material, Mg0.9Mn3O7·2.7H2O, can effectively inhibit Mn2+ dissolution and layer shearing/bulking effects compared with conventional 2D δ‐MnO2 via hydrogen‐bonded interlayers and pinned Mg2+ "pillars". Layered manganese oxides adopting pre‐accommodated cations have drawn tremendous interest for the application as cathodes in aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) owing to their open 2D channels for fast ion‐diffusion and mild phase transition upon topochemical (de)intercalation processes. However, it is inevitable to see these "pillar" cations leaching from the hosts owing to the loose interaction with negatively charged Helmholtz planes within the hosts and shearing/bulking effects in 2D structures upon guest species (de)intercalation, which implies a limited modulation to prevent them from rapid performance decay. Herein, a new class of layered manganese oxides, Mg0.9Mn3O7·2.7H2O, is proposed for the first time, aims to achieve a robust cathode for high‐performance AZIBs. The cathode can deliver a high capacity of 312 mAh g−1 at 0.2 A g−1 and exceptional cycling stability with 92% capacity retention after 5 000 cycles at 5 A g−1. The comprehensive characterizations elucidate its peculiar motif of pined Mg‐□Mn‐Mg dumbbell configuration along with interstratified hydrogen bond responsible for less Mn migration/dissolution and quasi‐zero‐strain characters. The revealed new structure‐function insights can open up an avenue toward the rational design of superstructural cathodes for reversible AZIBs.

Manipulating Intercalation-Extraction Mechanisms in Structurally Modulated Δ-Mno2 Nanowires for High-Performance Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries

Abstract:Rechargeable aqueous zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs) have attracted wide attention recently because of their low cost, high safety, and environmental friendliness. However, manganese-based materials always suffer from irreversible structural transformation and sluggish reaction kinetics, resulting in low capacity and poor cycling stability, which hinders their practical application in large-scale energy storage. Herein, we demonstrate a structural modulation strategy to manipulate the electrochemical reaction mechanism in layered 6-MnO2 via Cu2+ intercalation. A favorable H+/Zn2+ intercalation-extraction mechanism is identified in structurally modulated 6-MnO2 electrode after the reversible Zn2+ intercalation and H+ conversion reaction in the initial several cycles, which is thoroughly investigated and demonstrated through multiple analytical means. The resulted 6-MnO2 cathodes deliver rapid and reversible Zn2+ storage, with a high reversible capacity of 398.2 mAh g? 1 at 0.1 A g? 1 and 90.1% capacity retention after 700 cycles at 5 A g? 1. Further ex-situ characterization demonstrates the rapid and reversible H+/Zn2+ storage in the structurally modulated 6-MnO2 cathodes. Density functional theory calculations reveal Cu2+ intercalation in 6-MnO2 effectively enhances the structural stability of 6-MnO2 via the strong ionic bonds bonded with oxygen atoms, and also optimizes electronic bandgap and ion/charge state of 6-MnO2, thus attributing favorable ion intercalation-extraction mechanisms. This structural modulation strategy provides a new gateway to the development of robust-structured cathode materials by manipulating the electrochemical reaction mechanisms in electrode materials for ZIBs. Abstract:This study deals with the viscoelastic constitutive modeling and the respective computational analysis of the human passive myocardium. We start by recapitulating the locally orthotropic inner structure of the human myocardial tissue and model the mechanical response through invariants and structure tensors associated with three orthonormal basis vectors. In accordance with recent experimental findings the ventricular myocardial tissue is assumed to be incompressible, thick-walled, orthotropic and viscoelastic. In particular, one spring element coupled with Maxwell elements in parallel endows the model with viscoelastic features such that four dashpots describe the viscous response due to matrix, fiber, sheet and fiber-sheet fragments. In order to alleviate the numerical obstacles, the strictly incompressible model is altered by decomposing the free-energy function into volumetric-isochoric elastic and isochoric-viscoelastic parts along with the multiplicative split of the deformation gradient which enables the three-field mixed finite element method. The crucial aspect of the viscoelastic formulation is linked to the rate equations of the viscous overstresses resulting from a 3-D analogy of a generalized 1-D Maxwell model. We provide algorithmic updates for second Piola–Kirchhoff stress and elasticity tensors. In the sequel, we address some numerical aspects of the constitutive model by applying it to elastic, cyclic and relaxation test data obtained from biaxial extension and triaxial shear tests whereby we assess the fitting capacity of the model. With the tissue parameters identified, we conduct (elastic and viscoelastic) finite element simulations for an ellipsoidal geometry retrieved from a human specimen.
Zn‐doped hollow cubic MnO2 as a high‐performance cathode material for Zn ion batteries

Abstract:Manganese‐based compounds have the characteristics of high theoretical capacity, low cost and stable performance, thus become a research hotspot for cathode materials of zinc‐ion batteries (ZIBs). However, in the process of charging and discharging, it is accompanied by problems such as structural collapse and low conductivity, which resulted in severe capacity degration during cycles. In this paper, a kind of Zn2+ doped MnO2 hollow cube cathode material (Zn‐MnO2) was prepared by self‐sacrificing template method. The Zn2+ doped in MnO2 crystals can induce oxygen vacancies in the structure, thereby improving the structural stability ion diffusion coefficient and electrical conductivity of the material. After 100 cycles at 0.3 A g‐1, the high specific capacity of 281.2 mA h g‐1 is still maintained. Through ex‐situ XPS and ex‐situ XRD tests, the mechanism of charge‐discharge process was discussed. The results show that the storage mechanism of Zn‐MnO2 is H+ and Zn2+ insertion/removal and Mn3+/Mn2+ two‐electron reaction pathway. The total state density (TDOS) and partial state density (PDOS) of Zn‐MnO2 and MnO2 further demonstrated that the doping of Zn2+ enhanced the electron conductivity and is beneficial to the electron transfer during the electrochemical reaction.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) are competitive alternatives for large-scale energy-storage devices owing to the abundance of zinc and low cost, high theoretical specific capacity, and high safety of these batteries. High-performance and stable cathode materials in AZIBs are the key to storing Zn2+. Manganese-based cathode materials have attracted considerable attention because of their abundance, low toxicity, low cost, and abundant valence states (Mn2+, Mn3+, Mn4+, and Mn7+). However, as a typical cathode material, birnessite-MnO2 (δ-MnO2) has low conductivity and structural instability. The crystal structure may undergo severe distortion, disorder, and structural damage, leading to severe cyclic instability. In addition, its energy-storage mechanism is still unclear, and most of the reported manganese oxide-based materials do not have excellent electrochemical performance. Herein, we propose a copper-doped Cu0.05K0.11Mn0.84O2·0.54H2O (Cu2-KMO) cathode, which exhibits a large interlayer spacing, a stable structure, and accelerated reaction kinetics. This cathode was prepared using a simple hydrothermal method. The AZIB assembled using Cu2-KMO showed high specific capacity (600 mA h g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 after 75 cycles). The dissolution-deposition energy storage mechanism of Cu-KMO in AZIBs with double electron transfer was revealed using ex situ tests. The good electrochemical performance of the Cu2-KMO cathode fabricated by the doping strategy in this study provides ideas for the subsequent preparation of manganese dioxide using other strategies.

Abstract:Aqueous zinc‐ion batteries (AZIBs) have received significant research attention and widely investigated because of their high intrinsic safety and cost effectiveness. Manganese dioxide has been regarded as a promising cathode material for AZIBs, attributed to its friendliness, abundant resources, high theoretical capacity, and high working voltage. Herein, a unique one-dimensional–three-dimensional (1D–3D) hybrid network with interconnected δ-MnO2 nanowires was reported as a cathode material for AZIBs. A distinctive 3D nano network structure resulted in enhancement of electrolyte osmosis and significant increase in contact between electrode and electrolyte, and also provided more active sites and convenient rapid ion transport routes. Moreover, the fine nanowire structure and the optimum layer spacing resulted in easier insertion/deinsertion of ion in the active material. Taking advantage of this feature, the δ-MnO2 cathode provides high reversible capacity, fast rate capability and good longevity for cycling. Further kinetic experiments revealed that Zn/δ‐MnO2 system constitutes an electrochemical reaction regulated by the combination of ionic diffusion and pseudo-capacitance; and shows high energy efficiency during the charge/discharge states. This research may provide an advanced cathode material for AZIB development.

Interfacial Designing of MnO2 Half-Wrapped by Aromatic Polymers for High-Performance Aqueous Zinc-Ion Batteries

Abstract:Due to the excellent specific capacity and high working voltage, manganese oxide (MnO2 ) has attracted considerable attention for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs). However, the irreversible structural collapse and sluggish ionic diffusion lead to poor rate capability and inferior lifespan. Herein, we proposed a novel organic/inorganic hybrid cathode of carbon-based poly(4,4'-oxybisbenzenamine)/MnO2 (denoted as C@PODA/MnO2 ) for AZIBs. Various in/ex situ analyses and theoretical calculations prove that PODA chains with C=N groups can provide a more active surface/interface for ion/electron mobility and zinc ion storage in the hybrid cathode. More importantly, newly formed Mn-N interfacial bonds can effectively promote ion diffusion and prevent Mn atoms dissolution, enhancing redox kinetics and structural integrity of MnO2 . Accordingly, C@PODA/MnO2 cathode exhibits high capacity (321 mAh g-1 or 1.7 mAh cm-2 at 0.1 A g-1 ), superior rate performance (88 mAh g-1 at 10 A g-1 ) and excellent cycling stability over 2000 cycles. Hence, rational interfacial designs shed light on the development of organic/inorganic cathodes for advanced AZIBs.
