Abstract:This article provides a comprehensive summary of the noteworthy discoveries derived from a rigorous investigation that explored into the impact of moringa seeds on the prevention/reduction of various cancers and other complex diseases. Moringa oleifera, a widely recognized plant more commonly known as moringa, has obtained significant research interest in recent years due to its prospective physiological advantages, including its claimed ability to counteract carcinogenesis. The moringa plant has been found to possess bioactive components that exhibit promising anticancer activities against different human cancers, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, etc. The cytotoxic properties of moringa seed extracts on cancerous cells have also been provided in this paper along with other notable health benefits. The extracts derived from moringa seeds inhibit cancer proliferation and promote cancer cell apoptosis through multiple signaling pathways. They also stimulated intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and subsequently induced caspase‐3 activity. The impact of moringin and avenanthramide 2f on the stimulation of caspases 2, 4, 8, and 9 results in reduction in the proliferation of cancer cells. The results reported by research studies hold significant implications for identifying and targeting specific molecular entities that could serve as potential therapeutic targets in search of effective cancer treatments. Furthermore, the flavonoids in moringa seed can remove mitochondrial reactive oxygen species, protecting beta cells and bringing hyperglycemia under control. M. oleifera seed oil can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases via reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) formation and modulation of cardiac superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity. Abstract:BACKGROUND:Moringa oleifera Lam (MO) is native to India and is a cash crop widely cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical areas. The health improving properties of MO has been studied from a long time ago for the numerous phenolic compounds, including vitamins, flavonoids, phenolic acids, isothiocyanates, tannins and saponins, which are present in considerable amounts in the plant. A growing spectrum of therapeutic characteristics of MO leaves has been found and used in the remission or treatment of oxidative stress, liver disease, neurological disease, hyperglycemia and cancer.HYPOTHESIS:This review focused on researches applying MO or MO leaf extract as a functional food or cure against various disease and cellular injuries. We believed it would help the discovery of therapeutic application of MO and understanding of MO phytochemistry.METHODS:The data collected in this review were extracted from researches indexed in Web of Science, google scholar, PubMed, Science Direct and Scopus to find out health benefits and biological activities of MO leaves polyphenols. The studies reporting mechanistic route of phenolic compounds of MO leaves were also considered in the present study.RESULTS:It has been reported that polyphenols of MO leaf have protective characteristics against neurodegenerative disorders through reducing DNA damage, activation of AchE activity and inhibition of caspase-3 activity. It has been reported that, they protected the kidney from damage caused by melamine through suppressed the pro-inflammatory cytokine, metallopeptidase inhibitor 1 (TIMP-1), and kidney injury molecule 1 (KIM-1). Similarly, methanol extract of MO leaves has low hypoglycemic attributes and attenuate the risk of diabetes caused by alloxan by enhancing lipid metabolism and stimulating insulin release, glucose uptake, and glycogen synthesis. In addition, MO leaves are becoming the best phytomedicine to reduce hypertension, which are naturally known as angiotensin-1converting enzyme (ACE), acetylcholinesterase, arginase and phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE5) inhibitors.CONCLUSION:MO leaves extract as a health promoting food additives for human and animals due to its great protective effect against many diseases and the widely persistent environmental toxins which disrupted cellular metabolic function. More studies are required to use the phenolic compounds of MO leaves to develop and produce drugs for controlling and treatment of various diseases.
Moringa oleifera as an Anti-Cancer Agent against Breast and Colorectal Cancer Cell Lines

Abstract:In this study we investigated the anti-cancer effect of Moringa oleifera leaves, bark and seed extracts. When tested against MDA-MB-231 and HCT-8 cancer cell lines, the extracts of leaves and bark showed remarkable anti-cancer properties while surprisingly, seed extracts exhibited hardly any such properties. Cell survival was significantly low in both cells lines when treated with leaves and bark extracts. Furthermore, a striking reduction (about 70-90%) in colony formation as well as cell motility was observed upon treatment with leaves and bark. Additionally, apoptosis assay performed on these treated breast and colorectal cancer lines showed a remarkable increase in the number of apoptotic cells; with a 7 fold increase in MD-MB-231 to an increase of several fold in colorectal cancer cell lines. However, no significant apoptotic cells were detected upon seeds extract treatment. Moreover, the cell cycle distribution showed a G2/M enrichment (about 2-3 fold) indicating that these extracts effectively arrest the cell progression at the G2/M phase. The GC-MS analyses of these extracts revealed numerous known anti-cancer compounds, namely eugenol, isopropyl isothiocynate, D-allose, and hexadeconoic acid ethyl ester, all of which possess long chain hydrocarbons, sugar moiety and an aromatic ring. This suggests that the anti-cancer properties of Moringa oleifera could be attributed to the bioactive compounds present in the extracts from this plant. This is a novel study because no report has yet been cited on the effectiveness of Moringa extracts obtained in the locally grown environment as an anti-cancer agent against breast and colorectal cancers. Our study is the first of its kind to evaluate the anti-malignant properties of Moringa not only in leaves but also in bark. These findings suggest that both the leaf and bark extracts of Moringa collected from the Saudi Arabian region possess anti-cancer activity that can be used to develop new drugs for treatment of breast and colorectal cancers.

Abstract:The authors of this brief interviewed stakeholders in states with high-ranking and low-ranking health system performance, according to The Commonwealth Fund's State Scorecard on Health System Performance. Findings suggest there are market, political, and cultural characteristics that can help or hinder health system improvement. High-performing states are more likely to have: (1) a history of continuous reform and government leadership; (2) a culture of collaboration among stakeholders; transparency of price and quality information; and (3) a congruent set of policies that focus on system improvement. Regardless of starting point, state policymakers and proponents for health system improvement can work to align incentives to change provider, health plan, purchaser, and consumer behavior; frame health in terms of economic development to gain public and political support; engage purchasers and payers to drive value and quality improvement; bring stakeholders together to develop goals and build trust; and take advantage of federal funding, incentives, and reform opportunities.

Abstract:Compared to its leaf, few studies have been reported on the seeds of Moringa oleifera Lam. Metabolites profiling analysis of M. oleifera seed methanolic extract (ME) and its fixed oil (MO) was attempted via LC/MS and GC/MS. LC/MS analysis of M. oleifera seeds annotated 84 peaks of which glucosinolates and their corresponding acetyl isomers were abundant. GC/MS of seed oil revealed the abundance of fatty acids with oleic acid at 34.3%. ME exhibited significant anti-Helicobacter pylori activity with MIC50 0.92 µg/mL, nearly one-half that of Clarithromycin. Fixed oil (MO) showed a nonselective anti-inflammatory effect with IC50= 24.4 ± 0.8 µg/mL correlated to Ibuprofen. To unravel the mechanism of the anti-H. pylori activity a molecular docking study of the principal components of the ME has been performed, using H. pylori urease enzyme. Interactions with Ni2+ ions and amino acid residue in the active site, which are crucial for the enzyme's biochemical role, are evidenced.

Abstract:The phytochemical screening showed that the Moringa oleifera (MO) extract contained many compounds such as polyphenols, polyterpenes, sterols, reducing sugars, and hydrolysates tannins. The MICs of MO extract for microbial strains is 0.73 mg/ml for Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, 7.5 mg/ml for Enterococcus faecalis, Staphylococcus aureus and 0.5 mg/ml for Candida albicans. The MO extract has an IC50 of 3.403 mg/ml has an antioxidant activity by DPPH radical scavenging. The cytotoxic activity of MO extract was evaluated by determining the content of lactate dehydrogenase released by the lysed cells. MO extract exhibited cytotoxic activity against HeLa and FaDu cell lines with an identical IC50 value of 25 µg/ml. We did not observe any remarkable decrease cytotoxic activity when these lines were exposed to the MO extract after 48 h. Our findings help to support the promising role of MO as anticancer agent and open a new challenge for studying DNA fragmentation.

Abstract:Breast and prostate cancers are the first and second most leading cause of mortality and morbidity in women and men respectively. Today lots of drugs are available for treatment but their adverse effect, potentially distressing toxicity only add to patient discomfort and limits their use. Identification of novel sources for developing new anticancer drugs with little or no side effect is imperative. In vitro antioxidant activities crude and degummed <i>Moringa oleifera</i> seed oil were determined using standard methods. Fatty acid and phytosterols were identified through GC–MS. Molecular docking studies was performed to investigate the binding interactions between natural compounds and five various anti-cancer drug targets. Also the proteins were docked to standard inhibitors and the binding affinities were determined. Molecular interactions between proteins and ligands were viewed with discovery studio 4.5. The binding energy was compared with the known inflammatory, breast and prostate cancer inhibitory drugs namely: exemestane, talazoparib, pictilisib, thalidomide and Z-IETD-fmk. Crude oil exhibited more potent antioxidant activities than the degummed oil. Minerals and vitamins were reduced after degumming. Phytosterol showed that β-Sitosterol is the predominant phytosterol which was higher in the degummed oil. β-Sitosterol displayed the best inhibitory activity against the standard inhibitors except Z-IETD-fmk; while oleic acid exhibited poor binding energy when compared with the standard inhibitors except thalidomide. β-Sitosterol played a promising role against breast and prostate cancer protein targets and hence can act as a template for further studies as cancer drug candidates.

Abstract:Although many procedures have been described for the correction of subglottic stenosis in the infant and child, none has been universally satisfactory. Cricoid resection and thyrotracheal anastomosis have been successful in adults, and we considered that the same techniques could be applied to correct subglottic stenosis in infants and children. A feasibility study was undertaken using young primates as a surgical model. The operation in each was accomplished uneventfully, although one animal later developed a complication possibly due to the use of a tissue adhesive. In practice, this complication could have been corrected without compromising the surgical outcome.

Abstract:Moringa oleifera Lam, commonly known as moringa, is a plant widely used both as a human food and for medicinal purposes around the world. This research aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera leaves (MoAE) and benzyl isothiocyanate (BIT) in rats with induced breast cancer. Cancer was induced with 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) at a dose of 60 mg/kg by orogastric gavage once only. Forty-eight rats were randomly assigned to eight groups, each consisting of six individuals. The control group (healthy) was called Group I. Group II received DMBA plus saline. In addition to DMBA, Groups III, IV, and V received MoAE at 100, 250, and 500 mg/kg/day, respectively, while Groups VI, VII, and VIII received BIT at 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg/day, respectively. Treatment was carried out for 13 weeks. Secondary metabolite analysis results identified predominantly quercetin, caffeoylquinic acid, neochlorogenic acid, vitexin, and kaempferol, as well as tropone, betaine, loliolide, and vitexin. The administration of MoAE at a dose of 500 mg/kg and BIT at 20 mg/kg exhibited a notable decrease in both the total tumor count and the cumulative tumor weight, along with a delay in their onset. Furthermore, they improved the histological grade. A significant decrease in serum levels of VEGF and IL-1β levels was observed (p < 0.001) with a better effect demonstrated with MoAE at 500 mg/kg and BIT at 20 mg/kg. In conclusion, this study suggests that both the aqueous extract of Moringa oleifera leaves and the benzyl isothiocyanate possess antitumor properties against mammary carcinogenesis, and this effect could be due, at least in part, to the flavonoids and isothiocyanates present in the extract.

Abstract:BACKGROUND Clinical nurse educators and other linking agents such as clinical nurse specialists, advanced nurse practitioners, and nurses working in research leadership positions are an important link in the facilitation of evidence-based practice in health care organizations. AIM The purpose of this paper is to report the findings of a systematic review of the literature regarding clinical nurse educators and research utilization, using the Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services framework as a backdrop for the analysis. FINDINGS There is a positive relationship between research utilization and attitude toward research, higher levels of education, and reading professional nursing journals among clinical nurse educators. The authors suggest that not all clinical nurse educators have the necessary critical appraisal skills and research knowledge to use research effectively in practice. CONCLUSIONS Few studies have examined clinical nurse educators and the determinants of their research utilization behaviour in clinical practice. Future research on clinical nurse educators needs to focus on the outcomes of research utilization, including the effectiveness of their role as facilitators and the contexts in which they practice.
Evaluating the anti-yeast, anti-diabetic, wound healing activities of Moringa oleifera extracted at different conditions of pressure via supercritical fluid extraction

Abstract:Plants represent a great source of medicines, and for their components to be discovered, extraction processes must be developed, especially methods based on green technology. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) was employed as a green method for Moringa oleifera extraction in the present investigation. The maximum yield of extraction was obtained at 25 MPa. Moreover, the extraction at 25 MPa induced the release of various phenols and flavonoids, as analyzed via high-performance liquid chromatography. The investigation revealed the concentrations of chlorogenic, gallic, rosmarinic, and coumaric acids to be 150.59, 89.90, 44.75, and 29.41 μg/mL, respectively at 25 MPa. However, their concentrations were 0.73, 1.53, 0.24, and 0.04 μg/mL, respectively at 15 MPa; vs. 4.73, 2.62, 1.06, and 0.50 at 35 MPa, respectively. Totals of saponin, flavonoid, phenolic, tannins, and alkaloid were recorded in maximum yield at 25 MPa. Moringa oleifera extracted at 35 MPa reflected highest inhibition zones of 27 ± 0.1, 30 ± 0.2, and 30 ± 0.1 mm against C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, and C. albicans, correspondingly. α-Amylase and α-glucosidase activities were greatly suppressed by the M. oleifera extract at 25 MPa with less IC50 (12.97 μg/mL and 6.0 μg/mL), than the IC50 (53.46 and 22.02 μg/mL) at 15 MPa, compared with acarbose IC50 (5.52 and 2.64 μg/mL), correspondingly.

Abstract:Purpose: To determine the bioactive compounds in Moringa oleifera (MO) and Acanthospermum hispidum (AH) with antioxidant, anticancer, antifungal and antibacterial potentials. Methods: Fresh leaves of these plants were collected from Akinmoorin and Awe, Oyo State, Nigeria. Particle-induced x-ray emission (PIXE) technique was performed using a 2.5MeV proton beam (a non-destructive elemental analysis). Phytochemicals were qualitatively analyzed using High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatographic-mass spectrophotometer (GC-MS) and standard procedures. Disc diffusion method was used to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for fungi and bacteria. Antioxidant properties were carried out by DPPH radical scavenging activity. Cancer cells (MDAMB 231 and HTC 15) were cultivated in the presence of the extracts at body temperature with 5 % CO2 and 95 % air in 100 % relative humidity. Thereafter, adherent cells were seeded and treated with increasing concentrations of the plant extracts for 48 – 72 h. Results: Phytochemical analysis showed that both plants contain alkaloids, flavonoids, anthraquinones, steroids and terpenoids, saponins, tannins, phenols and glycosides. The MIC for MO on fungi was 21.0 and 12.0 mg/mL for AH. Furthermore, MO MIC for bacteria was 25.25 mg/mL and 9.75 mg/mL for AH. Antioxidant properties revealed MO having 80.02 % and AH, 76 % at 32.00 μL. The ethanolic extracts showed a 50 % reduction in cancer cell viability at 24.5 μg/mL for MO and 16.0 μg/mL for AH, respectively, on MDAMB 231 and HTC 15 cells. Conclusion: Moringa oleifera (MO) and Acanthospermum hispidum (AH) extracts exhibit significant antioxidant, antitumor, antifungal and antibacterial activities. Further studies will require that the active constituents be isolated and formulated into suitable dosage forms.

Abstract:The current research intended to evaluate the antitumor properties of Moringa oleifera oil extract (MOE). Fifty-six female Swiss albino mice were employed in this study. Animals were assigned into four groups: control (C) group, moringa oil extract (MOE) group administered (500 mg/kg b. wt) MOE daily via gavage, Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) group and EAC group administered daily with (500 mg/kg b.wt) MOE for two weeks (EAC/MOE). The results showed that MOE significantly ameliorated the EAC increase in body weight and reduced the EAC cell viability. In addition, they upgraded the levels of hepatic and renal functions, inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress markers and EAC-induced hepatic and renal histopathological changes. Treatment of EAC with MOE induced antitumor, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects and normalized most of the tested parameters besides the histopathological alterations in both renal and hepatic tissues. HPLC for the MOE identified Cinnamic acid, Ellagic acid, Quercetin, Gallic acid, Vanillin and Hesperidin as major compounds. The molecular docking study highlighted the virtual binding of the identified compounds inside the GSH and SOD proteins, especially for Quercetin which exhibited promising binding affinity with good interactive binding mode with the key amino acids. These results demonstrate that the antitumor constituents of MOE against EAC induced oxidative stress and inflammation by preventing oxidative damage and controlling EAC increase.
Influence of premedication on plasma ACTH and cortisol concentrations in children during adenoidectomy.

Abstract:The endocrine response to stress, as reflected by the plasma concentrations of ACTH and cortisol, was investigated in 14 children receiving two different premedications during halothane anaesthesia for adenoidectomy. Seven children (group A) were premedicated with diazepam 5 mg rectally and atropine 0.3-0.4 mg sublingually and seven (group B) received a rectal combination of diazepam 0.5 mg kg-1, morphine 0.15 mg kg-1 and hyoscine 0.01 mg kg-1. Before and after surgery plasma concentrations of ACTH and cortisol were lower in group B than in group A. In group A mean values for ACTH increased from 40.7 ng line-1 before adenoidectomy to 352.9 ng litre-1 (P less than 0.001) after adenoidectomy. The corresponding increase in group B was from 12.1 ng litre-1 to 82.1 ng litre-1 (P less than 0.01). In group A mean cortisol concentrations increased from 235.7 nmol litre-1 to 655.7 nmol litre-1 after adenoidectomy (P less than 0.01) and in group B from 121.4 nmol litre-1 to 427.9 nmol litre-1 (P less than 0.01). End-tidal carbon dioxide tension was approximately the same in both groups. It was concluded that the combination of diazepam, morphine and hyoscine decreased the endocrine response to stress.

Free radicals react with DNA, promoting the appearance of cancer cells. Therefore, natural antioxidants have been suggested as an alternative to prevent this disorder. Peptides are protein fragments that have been produced from various plants. In previous work, Moringa oleifera leaf peptides (MOPHs) with antioxidant potential were generated and identified. However, the spectrophotometric methods used to evaluate their antioxidant activity do not fully reflect its potential. In this work, the antioxidant activity of MOPHs was assessed by the ferric reducing antioxidant power assay (FRAP) and cellular antioxidant activity method on the human colon cancer cell line Caco-2. Also, their antiproliferative activity was evaluated. The MOPHs exhibited a FRAP activity of 1435 μmol TE/g, and at 500 μg/mL; the peptides did not show a cytotoxic effect on healthy colon CCD-18Co cells. Moreover, the MOPHs increased Caco-2 antioxidative activity to a greater extent by 73.45% and 83.62% at 250 and 500 μg/mL, respectively. Regarding cellular proliferation, the MOPHs inhibited it by 78.19% and 90.20% at 200 and 500 μg/mL, respectively. These findings highlight the potential of Moringa oleifera leaf peptides as functional ingredients with significant health benefits, demonstrating antioxidant and antiproliferative properties.

Abstract:Abstract Background Cancer chemotherapy is difficult because current medications for the treatment of cancer have been linked to a slew of side effects; as a result, researchers are tasked with developing greener cancer chemotherapies. Moringa oleifera has been reported with several bioactive compounds which confirm its application for various ailments by traditional practitioners. In this study, we aim to prospect the therapeutic potentials of M. oleifera phytocompounds against cancer proliferation as a step towards drug discovery using a computational approach. Target proteins: dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and B-Cell Lymphoid-2 (BCL-2), were retrieved from the RCSB PDB web server. Sixteen and five phytocompounds previously reported in M. oleifera leaves (ML) and seeds (MS), respectively, by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry were synthesized and used in the molecular docking study. For accurate prediction of binding sites of the target proteins; standard inhibitors, Methotrexate (MTX) for DHFR, and Venetoclax (VTC) for BCL-2, were docked together with the test compounds. We further predicted the ADMET profile of the potential inhibitors for an insight into their chance of success as candidates in drug discovery. Results Results for the binding affinities, docking poses, and the interactions showed that ML2, ML4-6, ML8-15, and MS1-5 are potential inhibitors of DHFR and BCL-2, respectively. In the ADMET profile, ML2 and ML4 showed the best drug-likeness by non-violation of Lipski Rule of Five. ML4-6, ML8, ML11, ML14-15, and MS1, MS3-5 exhibit high GI absorption; ML2, ML4-6, ML8, MS1, and MS5 are blood–brain barrier permeants. ML2, ML4, ML9, ML13, and MS2 do not interfere with any of the CYP450 isoforms. The toxicity profile showed that all the potential inhibitors are non-carcinogenic and non-hERG I (human ether-a-go-go related gene I) inhibitors. ML4, ML11, and MS4 are hepatotoxic and ML7, ML10, and MS4 are hERG II inhibitors. A plethora of insights on the toxic endpoints and lethal concentration values showed that ML5, ML13, and MS2 are comparatively less lethal than other potential inhibitors. Conclusion This study has demonstrated that M. oleifera phytocompounds are potential inhibitors of the disease proteins involved in cancer proliferation, thus, an invaluable step toward the discovery of cancer chemotherapy with lesser limitations.

Abstract:Moringa oleifera Lam. family Moringaceae is well known for a wide range of biological activities and a complex phytochemical composition. The current study investigates tissue culture protocols for Moringa oleifera leaves and seeds. For static culture initiation, Murashige and skooge (MS) as a basal medium with hormonal supply of (0–10 µM) of 2,4-dicholorophenoxy acetic acid and 6-benzyl aminopurine for Moringa oleifera seeds and leaves was employed. Suspension cultures with the optimum hormonal combination was initiated for both seeds and leaves calli. Liquid chromatography/mass spectroscopy (LC/MS) analysis performed, for the first time, on the methanolic extracts of plant parts and the produced calli revealed varying concentrations of nine major components (six flavonoids and three phenolic acids). Antioxidant and cytotoxic activities, against three cell lines, were evaluated for the obtained methanolic extracts. In general, superior biological activities were identified for the produced calli when compared to plant parts.

Abstract:Bacterial endophytes reside within the tissues of living plant species without causing any harm or disease to their hosts. Bacterial endophytes have produced a variety of bioactive compounds that can be used for different biomedical applications. In the current study, two bacterial endophytes were isolated from healthy Moringa oleifera leaves, and identified genetically as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Alcaligenes faecalis. Phytochemical results illustrated that A. faecalis produced phenolics at 547.2 mg/g, tannins at 156.7 μg/g, flavonoids at 32.8 μg/g, and alkaloids at 111.2 μg/g compared to S. maltophilia, which produced phenolics at 299.5 mg/g, tannins at 78.2 μg/g, flavonoids at 12.4 μg/g, and alkaloids at 29.4 μg/g. GC-MS analysis indicated that A. faecalis extract has 24 bioactive compounds, including 9 major compounds, namely octadecanoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, linoleic acid ethyl ester, octadecenoic acid, methyl ester, methyl stearate, nonacosane, indolizine, palmitoleic acid, and heptacosane. On the other hand, S. maltophilia extract has 11 bioactive compounds, including 8 major compounds, namely oleic acid, octadecanoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, cis-2-phenyl-1, 3-dioxolane-4-methyl, ergotamine, diisooctyl phthalate, diethyl phthalate, and pentadecanoic acid. To check the safety of these extracts, the cytotoxicity of Ethyl acetate (EA) extracts of S. maltophilia and A. faecalis were evaluated against the Vero normal cell line, and the results confirmed that these extracts are safe to use. Moreover, results revealed that EA extracts of S. maltophilia and A. faecalis exhibited anticancer activity against the cancerous MCF7 cell line, where IC50 was 202.4 and 119.7 μg/mL, respectively. Furthermore, EA extracts of S. maltophilia had antibacterial and antifungal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and unicellular fungi. Likewise, the EA extract of A. faecalis exhibited antibacterial and antifungal activity against Gram-positive bacteria, as well as unicellular fungi, but did not show any activity against Gram-negative bacteria. Also, EA extracts of S. maltophilia and A. faecalis exhibited moderate antioxidant activity where IC50 were 146.2 and 147.6 μg/mL, respectively. In conclusion, the two isolated endophytic bacteria S. maltophilia and A. faecalis have promising bioactive compounds that have antibacterial, antioxidant, and anticancer activities.

Abstract:Moringa concanensis (Moringaceae) is an important folk medicinal plant widely used to treat various ailments. The present study was aimed to investigate the phytochemical screening, antioxidant and antibacterial properties of M. concanensis leaves using various solvents. Total phenolics content and flavonoid content were analysed by the spectrophotometric methods. Antioxidant activity was performed using nine in vitro assays and antibacterial activity was studied against nine pathogenic bacteria by agar disc diffusion method. The preliminary phytochemical analysis showed the presence of steroids, triterpenoids, reducing sugar, sugar, alkaloids, phenolic, flavonoid, saponins, and tannins. The methanolic and ethyl acetate extracts of M. concanensis leaves showed highest amount of total phenolic content of 152.81 ± 3.30 and 136.52 ± 3.36 mg GAE/g, total flavonoid content of 123.22 ± 6.5 and 130.83 ± 8.69 mg QE/g respectively. Methanolic and ethyl acetate extracts showed the strongest DPPH, ABTS, hydroxyl, hydrogen peroxide free radical scavenging, and ferric-reducing power. For antibacterial activity also, ethyl acetate and methanolic extracts exhibited superior inhibition levels against the tested bacterial strains, like Escherichia coli (24.0 ± 0.1 mm) and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (25.1 ± 0.3 mm). The findings provide baseline information that tends to support the potential use of M. concanensis as a therapeutic agent in treating various diseases and could be a potential natural antioxidant in slowing oxidative stress and related disorders.

Abstract:Plant Based Natural Products (PBNPs) have been subject of interest since ancient time due to their use in food, industrial and biomedical applications. Research attention has further augmented to explore their phytochemical composition, properties, and potential application in the post-COVID era. In the present study phytochemical screening has been carried out with Methanolic Leaf Extracts of Moringa oleifera (MLEMO) followed by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) analysis. Phytochemical analysis of MLEMO revealed the presence of Alkaloids, Carbohydrates, Coumarins, Flavonoids, Glycosides, Phenol, Proteins, Quinones, Saponins, Steroids, Tannins and Terpenoids. Further, GCMS analysis revealed the presence of 41 compounds of which Dihydroxyacetone; Monomethyl malonate; 4H-Pyran-4-one,2,3-dihydro-3,5-dihydroxy-6-methyl; 1,3-Propanediol, 2-ethyl-2-(hydroxymethyl); Propanoic acid, 2-methyl-, octyl ester; 3-Deoxy-d-mannoic lactone; Sorbitol; Inositol; Cyclohexanemethanol, alpha-methyl-4-(1-methylethyl), Hexadecanoic acid, Methyl palmitate; n-Hexadecanoic acid (Palmitic acid); 9-Octadecenoic acid, methyl ester; Phytol; 9,12,15-Octadecatrienoic acid; Octadecanoic acid; 9-Octadecenamide were prominent. Most of the compounds in the list are bioactive and possess medicinal properties that are expected to serve as a baseline lead for the development of therapeutic agents.
