Abstract:We synthesized a range of sulfonated polyaryletherketone (x%SCBI-SPAEK-6F) with pendant benzimidazole side groups at a tunable molar percentage (x within 5-15%) for potential application as proton exchange membrane (PEM). A systematic study had been undertaken to study the performance and the underlying structure-properties relationship of PEMs fabricated by those novel amphoteric polymers. It was found that the dimensional stability, oxidative stability and methanol resistance performance of x%SCBI-SPAEK-6F membranes were significantly improved with the increase of the benzimidazole content due to the acid-base interaction. In particular, the 5%SCBI-SPAEK-6F membrane exhibited a relative selectivity (10.5 x 10(3) S s cm(-3)) almost 20 times higher than that of Nafion117 membrane at 75 degrees C, demonstrating the significant promoted proton conductivity (0.35 S cm(-1)) and reduced methanol penetration (6 x 10(-7) cm(2) s(-1)) by the ionic barrier. With such superior performance, these polymers are promising for the fabrication of practical proton exchange membranes in commercial fuel cells.
Supramolecular Complexation of Metal Oxide Cluster and Non‐Fluorinated Polymer for Large‐Scale Fabrication of Proton Exchange Membranes for High‐Power‐Density Fuel Cells

Abstract:Cost-effective, non-fluorinated polymer proton exchange membranes (PEMs) are highly desirable in emerging hydrogen fuel cells (FCs) technology; however, their low proton conductivities and poor chemical and dimension stabilities hinder their further development as alternatives to commercial Nafion®. Here, we report the inorganic-organic hybridization strategy by facilely complexing commercial polymers, polyvinyl butyral (PVB), with inorganic molecular nanoparticles, H3PW12O40 (PW) via supramolecular interaction. The strong affinity among them endows the obtained nanocomposites amphiphilicity and further lead to phase separation for bi-continuous structures with both inter-connected proton transportation channels and robust polymer scaffold, enabling high proton conductivities, mechanical/dimension stability and barrier performance, and the H2/O2 FCs equipped with the composite PEM show promising power densities and long-term stability. Interestingly, the hybrid PEM can be fabricated continuously in large scale at challenging ~10 um thickness via typical tape casting technique originated from their facile complexing strategy and the hybrids' excellent mechanical properties. This work not only provides potential material systems for commercial PEMs, but also raises interest for the research on hybrid composites for PEMs.

The Preparation of Metal–Organic‐Framework/Boron Phosphate Hybrid Materials for Improved Performances in Proton Exchange Membranes

Abstract:New types of metal-organic framework based hybrid materials are designed and prepared, which involving the hybridization of various content of boron phosphate (BPO4) with the precursor of HKUST-1. The structure of obtained HKUST-1/BPO4 hybrid materials (HB) is fully investigated, and then applied to construct sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) based proton exchange membranes (SPEEK/HB). Owing to effective interactions between hybrid materials and SPEEK matrix, the achieved composite membranes reflect a considerable improvement in mechanical and thermal stability, oxidative stability, methanol permeation, and proton conductivity. In particular, the tensile strength of SPEEK/HB-20 composite membrane is 41.3 MPa, which is 1.5 times higher than pristine SPEEK, and the methanol permeability reduced to one-third of SPEEK at the same time. The SPEEK/HB-10 displays the highest proton conductivity of 37.4 mS cm(-1) at 80 degrees C, which is obviously higher than pristine SPEEK. These results reveal that the hybridization of HKUST-1 with BPO4 provide a promising candidate in the modification of proton exchange membranes (PEMs), and this strategy also possess great application potential in other types of MOFs-based hybrid materials.

Abstract:Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have become the most rapidly developing fuel cells in recent years. Proton exchange membranes (PEMs) are one of the most essential components of PEMFCs; however, their performance cannot adapt to the rapid development of today's society. In addition, to replace traditional low-performance membranes and meet technical development and commercial needs, most studies are focusing on the design and preparation of ideal PEMs with low electron permeability, low fuel and oxidizer permeability, high proton conductivity, excellent mechanical and chemical properties, and low cost. Herein, we review PEMs based on polymers in the aromatic hydrocarbon family. Owing to their rigid backbone structure, most aryl polymers are lowly soluble in most solvents. The solubility of a polymer can be improved by introducing different monomers that modify the aromatic hydrocarbon compounds in the main or side chain. The PEM can then be prepared using the solution casting method. To improve the proton conductivity, water uptake, mechanical properties, and oxidation stability of PEMs, many researchers have reported the use of various approaches: sulfonation, immersion in hydrochloric acid or phosphoric acid (PA), blending, crosslinking, and addition of inorganic fillers or metal–organic frameworks. The insights provided by this review will assist the development of higher-performance, safer, and cheaper PEMs.

Abstract:High-temperature proton exchange membranes (HT-PEMs) are key components in high-temperature energy storage and conversion technologies, which require excellent proton conductivity and mechanical strength. However, it is difficult for HT-PEMs to balance their mechanical and conductive properties. Here, we present a strategy to prepare HT-PEMs based on the combination of polyoxometalate (POM)-dominated noncovalent cross-linking and H3PO4 (PA)-induced post-assembly. Hybrid membranes containing polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), poly(terphenyl piperidine) (PTP), and H3PW12O40 (PW) are prepared, where the polymers are electrostatically cross-linked by PW and maintain certain mobility. When the membranes adsorb PA, the polarity difference between the PVP–PW–PA moieties and the PTP–PW–PA moieties increases, causing the chains to rearrange into bicontinuous structures via a post-assembly process. The resultant membranes show a break strength over 7 MPa and a proton conductivity of ∼55 mS cm–1 at 160 °C. The high-temperature supercapacitors based on such membranes exhibit a specific capacitance of 145.4 F g–1 and a capacitance retention of 80% after 3000 charge–discharge cycles at 150 °C. Their H2/air fuel cells display a peak power of 273.6 mW cm–2 at 160 °C. This work provides a paradigm for using POMs as dynamic cross-linkers to fabricate nanostructured PEMs, which paves a feasible route to developing high-performance electrolyte materials.

Abstract:Using polyoxometalate moieties we are developing proton conducting membranes for proton exchange membrane fuel cells, electrolyzers and other devices that can solve the durability and environmental challenges and temperature limitations facing the state of the state-of-the-art perfluorinated sulfonic acid-based membranes. During recent work with perfluorinated membranes we have shown how to achieve stability enhancement that easily exceeds the Fuel Cell DOE accelerated stress tests (AST) for chemical stability and mechanical durability requirements for light duty vehicles. This indicates the potential of these For this perfluorinated polymer-HPA combination we obtained higher performance than the current state-of-the-art PFSAs under high humidity conditionsHPA moieties to give oxidative stability to hydrocarbon membranes as well. New membrane technology we are working on will utilize covalently bound heteropoly acids (HPA), inorganic super acids, that have both some of the highest proton conductivities when wet and have been proven to catalytically decompose oxygenated radicals that destroy existing membranes. We have already demonstrated similar membranes in fuel cells with high performance and some of the most stable long term durability ever demonstrated. In fuel cells, the materials always performed beyond state-of the-art when in humid conditions but struggled when the cells became dry, as electrolysis applications feeds water to the cell we have very high confidence that we will be able to easily exceed electrolyzer performance targets. We are improving upon this polymer chemistry and are now tailoring it specifically to electrolysis. When configured correctly within a hydrocarbon polymer membrane these HPA-hydrocarbon polymers will outperform perfluorosulfonic acid (PFSA) polymers. The correct HPA chemistry must be chosen, and we have shown that silicotungstic acid derivatives act as strong proton conducting moieties and also catalytically decompose oxygenated radicals. This will then enable hydrocarbon membranes with practical lifetimes and performance using the silicotungstic functionality. We are aiming to control the HPA channel morphology and allow for maximum proton conductivity with minimum water uptake. The engineered structures will facilitate proton conduction from ambient conditions to temperatures in excess of 120°C (the polymeric materials chosen are stable to 200°C when dry and potentially much higher when wet and pressurized), as well as achieving cost and durability targets for PEM membranes in electrolyzer applications. Our approach will also allow for development of an ionomer for optimal interfacing with the electrodes.
Complementary Hybrid Design of Solvated Electrolyte Membranes Enabled by Porous Carbon Reinforcement for High-Performance Lithium Batteries

Abstract:Solid polymer electrolytes are potential replacement of liquid electrolytes due to their much less flammability and leakage. Among them, poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP)-based electrolytes have several advantages including improved processability and electrochemical stability. Unfortunately, poor ionic conductivity and mechanical properties due to high plasticizer concentration hinder their practical applications. Herein, we address these issues by exploiting the solvation effect in the electrolyte through tuning the amount of residual N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) and lithium salts. Moreover, by blending with porous carbon (PC) the mechanical integrity of the PVDF-HFP electrolytes is substantially enhanced due to improved interfacial bonding and specific surface area. The appropriate value of electrical conductivity and highly porous morphology of PC also meet the ionic transport and electronic insulation requirements. With the absorbed residual NMP as plasticizer and complexed with Li ions to formLi[NMP](3)(+) , ionic conductivity and amorphicity are improved. By elucidating the solvent and salt concentration interplay, Li-ion conductivity of up to 0.56 mS cm(-,) wide electrochemical window of 5 V versus Li/Li+ and 1000 h of cycling stability (versus Li, 0.2 mA/cm(2)) are obtained. These findings afford a novel electrolyte design guideline for enhancing interfacial compatibility and cycling through hybridization and ion solvation to develop practical lithium batteries.

Abstract:Proton exchange membrane (PEM) is one of the core materials which were widely used in the field of fuel cells (FCs). In recent years, the metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and polymer composite membranes as tunable proton-conducting materials have showed great potential in this field. Herein, a Cu(II)-based metal organic framework (Cu-MOF) with acid/base stability was introduced into poly(vinylpyrrolidone)/poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVP/PVDF, PP) to fabricate hybrid membranes(Cu-MOF@PP-X, where X is the % Cu-MOF content). The effects of Cu-MOF loading amounts on the conductive behavior of Cu-MOF@PP-X composites have been documented. It is worth noting that Cu-MOF@PP-50 exhibited the proton conductivity up to 4.36 × 10−4 S cm−1 at 353 K and 98% relative humidity (RH). In addition, the value of proton conduction is about two orders of magnitude higher than that of the parent Cu-MOF (1.91 × 10−6 S cm−1). This work contributes to driving further advances of MOF/polymer composites in proton-conducting apparatus.

Abstract:Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have been recognized as the important alternative to current power suppliers due to their high power density and environmental compatibility; however, one of their key components—proton conductive polymer electrolyte membranes (most are Nafion® series membranes) are not favorable for practical application. To prepare a membrane in a more cost-effective manner, hydrocarbon polymers can be used as the backbone; but it requires that the polymer possess specific properties, such as excellent thermal and hydrolytic stability. Poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) can be listed as one of such polymers because it has high glass transition temperature (Tg=210°C), high mechanical strength, and excellent hydrolytic stability. In addition, its distinctive but simple structure allows a variety of modifications in both aryl and benzyl positions: (1) electrophilic substitution on the benzene ring of PPO, (2) radical substitution of the hydrogen from the methyl groups of PPO, (3) nucleophilic substitution of the bromomethylated PPO (BPPO), (4) capping and coupling of the terminal hydroxyl groups in PPO chains, and (5) metalation of PPO with organometallic compounds. These modifications can tune PPO for preparation of proton conductive membranes (PCMs). Therefore, the application of PPO and its derivatives to PCM preparation will constitute this review. Instead of a summary on the literature concerning PCMs, this review aims to extract the principles for preparation of PCMs by using PPO as an example material.
Efficient proton exchange membranes based on bifunctional metal–organic frameworks

Abstract:An efficient strategy for increasing the proton conductivity of proton exchange membranes (PEMs) is the introduction of functionalized metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) to establish efficiency proton conduction channels. In this work, a sub-structure fragment flexible bifunctional MOFs UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H was successfully prepared. Next, UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H was filled with sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) to prepare composite PEMs. The sub-structure fragment of the UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H functioning as both a donor and an acceptor can promote rapid proton conduction. Furthermore, an effective channel for proton conductivity might be constructed by creating acid–base pairing interaction between the –NH/–NH 2 on the UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H sub-structure fragment and the –SO 3 H on the backbone of SPEEK. At 80 °C and 100% relative humidity (RH), the UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H/SPEEK = 30% composite PEMs has the maximum proton conductivity of 0.273 S cm −1 , which is 84% higher than the SPEEK membrane. Finally, because of the remarkable compatibility between UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H and SPEEK, the UiO-66-NH-SO 3 H/SPEEK = 40% composite PEMs had the maximum proton conductivity of 0.232 S cm −1 , the lowest methanol permeability of 4.67 × 10 –7 cm 2 s −1 and the highest proton selectivity of 21.79 × 10 4 S s cm −3 . This work offers a design and construction method for MOFs with precise structural functionalization to enhance proton conductivity and prevent methanol permeability in PEMs. Thus, the prepared composite PEMs is promising for DMFCs applications.

Abstract:To enrich the building block and function as well as the preparation methodology of metallopolymer system, functioned inorganic polyoxometalate clusters were introduced by using their intrinsic acidity induced multiple interactions with triblock copolymers. In the designed triblock copolymer PEG-b-PDMAEMA-b-PTEPM, the POMs clusters can be immobilized through in-situ protonation of the PDMAEMA block induced electrostatic interaction and the self-gelation of the PTEPM block, while the PEG block can improve the water solubility and dispersion of the final polyoxometalate-based hybrid catalyst (PHC). The selective oxidation activity of PHC is comparable with the homogeneous POMs catalyst as demonstrated by the model reaction of the selective oxidation of methyl phenyl sulfide (MPS) to methyl phenyl sulfoxide (MPSO). By optimizing the ratio between PHC and oxidant H2O2, the selectivity for MPSO can achieve as high as 99% with conversion above 95%. Furthermore, the multiple interactions between POMs and the polymer substrate also enhance the stability of PHC and enable the recycling of PHC. Therefore, the methodology of in-situ protonation and self-gelation by the acidity of POMs provides a facile and general strategy to prepare robust POMs-based metallopolymers, paving a new avenue towards cluster-based materials and devices.

Abstract:The PAT@UiO‐66‐SO3H hybrid materials are constructed with high conductive UiO‐66‐SO3H and polydopamine‐coated natural clay attapulgite (PAT), it endows chitosan (CS) composite proton exchange membranes (PEMs) with generally improved performance. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is now becoming the most fascinating conductive materials due to designable structure and pores at molecular level, and available crystal structure for the study of conduction mechanism. Nevertheless, comparing to the design of molecular structures of MOFs, the hybrid of MOFs with special micro/nano‐structured materials is considered to be a more effective approach for improved properties. In this study, the PAT@UiO‐66‐SO3H hybrid material was constructed with high conductive UiO‐66‐SO3H, a famous kind of MOFs, and polydopamine‐coated natural clay attapulgite (PAT), then the prepared hybrid material was blended with chitosan (CS) to prepare proton exchange membranes (PEMs). Owing to the special architectures and microenvironment, combining with the advantages of composition with UiO‐66‐SO3H and attapulgite, the prepared composite membranes showed considerable improved performances, including tensile strength, thermal and structural stability, fuel resistance ability, conduction and single cell performances. The CS/PAT@UiO‐66‐SO3H‐5 composite membrane exhibited the highly enhanced tensile strength of 67 MPa and improved thermal stability with Tg value of 235°C, as well as the lowest methanol crossover value of 1.2 × 10−6 cm2 s−1. Besides, the highest proton conductivity of 38.8 mS cm−1 at 80°C and power density of 37.9 mWcm−2 was achieved with CS/PAT@UiO‐66‐SO3H‐3 composite membrane, these performances were higher than pristine CS of 22.7 mS cm−1 and 32.2 mW cm−2 respectively. Our investigation reveals great application potential of MOFs based hybrid materials in fabricating of high performance composite PEMs. Highlights PAT@UiO‐66‐SO3H hybrid materials were constructed from MOFs and natural clay. The hybrid materials possessed special architectures and microenvironment. The PAT@UiO‐66‐SO3H introduced consecutive channels and proton sites. The hybrid membranes achieved excellent performances.

Abstract:Proton-exchange membranes (PEMs) as separators have important technological applications in electrochemical devices, including fuel cells, electrochemical sensors, electrochemical reactors, and electrochromic displays. The composite membrane of a proton-conducting metal-organic framework (MOF) and an organic polymer combines the unique physical and chemical nature of the polymer and the high proton conductivity of the MOF, bringing together the best of both components to potentially fabricate high-performance PEMs. In this study, we have investigated the proton-transport nature of a zirconium(IV) MOF, MOF-808 (1). This superior-water-stability MOF shows striking proton conductivity with σ = 7.58 × 10-3 S·cm-1 at 315 K and 99% relative humidity. The composite membranes of 1 and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) have further been fabricated and are labeled as 1@PVDF-X, where X represents the mass percentage of 1 (as X%) in 1@PVDF-X and X = 10-55%. The composite membranes exhibit good mechanical features and durability for practical application and a considerable proton conductivity of 1.56 × 10-4 S·cm-1 in deionized water at 338 K as well. Thus, the composite membranes show promising applications as alternative PEMs in diverse electrochemical devices.

Abstract:The sluggish commercial application of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) with low Pt loading is chiefly hindered by concentration polarization loss, particularly at high current density regions. Addressing this, our study concentrates on the ionomer membranes in the cathode catalyst layer (CCL) and explores the potential of incorporating additional hydrophilic or hydrophobic components to modify these ionomers. Therefore, an all-atom model was constructed and for the ionomer and hydrophilic and hydrophobic modifications were implemented via incorporating SiO2 and PTFE, respectively. The investigation was conducted via molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to predict the morphology and structure of the ionomer and analyze the kinetic properties of oxygen molecules and protons. The simulation results elaborate that the hydrophilic and hydrophobic modifications favor the phase separation and the self-diffusion coefficients of oxygen molecules and protons are enhanced. Considering the hydration level of the ionomer films, hydrophilic modification facilitates mass transfer under low-hydration-level conditions, while hydrophobic modification is more effective in optimizing mass transfer as the hydration level increases. The optimal contents of SiO2 and PTFE for each hydration level in this work are 9.6% and 45%, respectively. This work proposes a reliable model and presents a detailed analysis of hydrophilic and hydrophobic modifications, which provides theoretical guidance for quantitative preparations of various composite membranes.

Abstract:Designing proton exchange membranes (PEMs) with high H + conductivity and good dimensional stability has been a challenge. The porous structure of ZIF-8 could load ionic liquids (IL) (ZIF-8@IL). The ZIF-8@IL was coated by sulfonated polydopamine (SPDA), then ZIF-8@IL-SPDA as proton conductors was fabricated. ZIF-8@IL-SPDA would not lose in water environment like small molecule proton conductors (such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, imidazole, etc.). The different loadings of ZIF-8@IL-SPDA were introduced into sulfonated poly (aryl ether ketone sulfone) containing fluorene groups (F-SPAEKS). The novel composite PEMs was investigated. The prepared hybrid matrix membrane with optimum ZIF-8@IL-SPDA doping content (1.5 wt%) showed the highest H + conductivity of 149.87 mS cm −1 at 80 °C. In addition, a maximum peak power density of 818 mW cm −2 was achieved in a single-cell performance test of this membrane. The good dispersion of ZIF-8@IL-SPDA nanoparticles in the F-SPAEKS matrix reduced the fuel cross-over flux to 2.15 mA cm −2 . Therefore, the newly prepared hybrid matrix membranes were expected to be applied in proton exchange membrane fuel cells.

Abstract:Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) is an eco-friendly energy conversion device that can convert chemical energy into electrical energy without emission of harmful oxidants such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and/or sulfur oxides (SOx) during operation. Nafion®, a representative perfluorinated sulfonic acid (PFSA) ionomer-based membrane, is generally incorporated in fuel cell systems as a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM). Since the PFSA ionomers are composed of flexible hydrophobic main backbones and hydrophilic side chains with proton-conducting groups, the resulting membranes are found to have high proton conductivity due to the distinct phase-separated structure between hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains. However, PFSA ionomer-based membranes have some drawbacks, including high cost, low glass transition temperatures and emission of environmental pollutants (e.g., HF) during degradation. Hydrocarbon-based PEMs composed of aromatic backbones with proton-conducting hydrophilic groups have been actively studied as substitutes. However, the main problem with the hydrocarbon-based PEMs is the relatively low proton-conducting behavior compared to the PFSA ionomer-based membranes due to the difficulties associated with the formation of well-defined phase-separated structures between the hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains. This study focused on the structural engineering of sulfonated hydrocarbon polymers to develop hydrocarbon-based PEMs that exhibit outstanding proton conductivity for practical fuel cell applications.

Abstract:Proton exchange membranes (PEMs) play an important role in fuel cells. For realizing a nanofiber (NF) structure design in PEMs, the material should have tunable pores and a high specific area. In this study, we attempt to design a novel NF with synergistic architecture doped MOF for constructing three-dimensional (3D) proton conduction networks in PEMs. In this framework, UiO-66-COOH serves as a platform for proton sites to synergistically promote proton conductivity via polyvinylpyrrolidone dissolution, hydrolyzation of polyacrylonitrile, and sulfamic acid functionalization of the shell-layer NF. Benefiting from enriched proton-transfer sites in NFs, the obtained composite membrane overcomes the trade-off among proton conductivity, methanol permeability, and mechanical stability. The composite membrane with 50 % fiber (Nafion/S@NF-50) exhibited a high proton conductivity of 0.212 S cm-1 at 80 °C and 100 % relative humidity, suppressed methanol permeability of 0.66 × 10-7 cm2 s-1, and the maximum power density of direct methanol fuel cell is 182.6 mW cm-2. Density functional theory was used to verify the important role of sulfamic acid in proton transfer, and the activation energy barriers under anhydrous and hydrous conditions are only 0.337 and 0.081 kcal, respectively. This study opens up new pathways for synthesizing NF composite PEMs.

Abstract:Proton exchange membranes (PEMs) play a crucial role in energy storage and conversion technologies such as fuel cells, redox flow batteries, and water electrolysis. Currently, perfluorosulfonic acid polymer (PFSA) membranes are the most commonly used PEM materials. However, PFSA membranes possess certain drawbacks, including the high dependence of proton conductivity on humidity, low glass transition temperatures, and complex synthesis processes. In recent decades, significant efforts have been dedicated to developing various alternative PEM materials, such as the sulfonated products of polyether ether ketone, poly(phenylene oxide), polysulfone, and polyimide. However, the backbones of these polymers often contain heteroatoms that are prone to breaking under practical working conditions, leading to reduced chemical stability. In contrast, all‐carbon backbone aromatic polymers exhibit excellent chemical stability, thermal stability, and mechanical properties, as well as high proton conductivity upon incorporating suitable acidic groups, which makes them promising alternatives for PEM materials. This review aims to summarize the recent research progress about all‐carbon backbone aromatic polymers, with a specific focus on synthesis strategies, structure–performance relationships, and applications in PEMs.

Abstract:The proton exchange membrane (PEM) has become one of the most popular materials for membrane-based energy conversion and storage devices due to its robust proton transport performance and high selectivity. It holds significant promise in applications such as fuel cells and electrolytic hydrogen production. This review aims to explore the latest scientific research on the development of non-perfluorinated sulfonic acid proton exchange membranes (NPFSA-PEM). It analyzes the effects of NPFSA-PEM crosslinking methods on membrane performance, including hydrogen bond crosslinking, thermal crosslinking, and radiation crosslinking mechanisms, providing a comprehensive assessment of membrane enhancement. Additionally, the review summarizes the characteristics of NPFSA-PEM, including proton conduction capacity, mechanical stability, thermal stability, methanol barrier ability, and more. It highlights recent research progress, and enhancement pathways, and evaluates various optimization strategies. The review also delves into the research progress of NPFSA-PEM in applications such as fuel cells, flow batteries, and electrolytic hydrogen production. By discussing research prospects and associated challenges, the review provides insights into the future direction of NPFSA-PEM in these areas. Overall, it offers a comprehensive summary and evaluation, aiding researchers in understanding the latest advancements in NPFSA-PEM within the field of energy. It sheds light on the role of NPFSA-PEM development in advancing energy conversion and storage and is expected to provide new momentum for the development of clean energy technology.
