Abstract:The gamma ray shielding characteristics of different borosilicate glasses are examined in this work. Four glasses with a composition of 60B 2 O 3 –5Na 2 O–5PbO–(30-x)SiO 2 –xBaO, (x = 5, 10, 15, and 20 mol%) were created using the conventional melt quenching technique followed by an annealing step. Linear attenuation coefficient, LAC, values have been determined using HPGe semi-conductor detector. These values were compared with calculated values estimated from Phy-X software and a good matching was observed. The samples were irradiated using the point sources viz., Am 241 (0.0595 MeV), Cs 137 (0.6617 MeV) and Co 60 (1.173 and 1.330 MeV). The LAC data were further utilized in computations of other radiological parameters that are half value layer (HVL) and Tenth value layer (TVL). Furthermore, radiation shielding efficiency (RSE) of the prepared glass materials has been evaluated. The sample 10S20B exhibits higher values of LAC than the others because it has the largest density and weight fraction of elements with higher atomic numbers. The significance of the atomic number and density parameters-higher atomic number and density imply greater probability of interaction, leading to better attenuation.

Abstract:The radiation shielding properties of borosilicate glasses with different concentrations of BaO at 0.0595, 0.9961, 1.173 and 1.333 MeV have been investigated. The obtained data indicates a high degree of correlation between the measured and Phy-X LAC values for the four prepared glasses, exemplifying the accuracy of the measurement method used to report of the linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) for the prepared glasses. This work demonstrates a significant impact of glass composition on LAC. This refers to the notable increase in LAC with increased BaO content and reduced B 2 O 3 in glasses from B55B10 to B40B25. The results highlight that in glasses, increasing the concentration of BaO decreases the half value layer, implying that glasses with higher BaO are more desirable for radiation shielding applications due to their small thickness. The results reveal a considerable energy dependency in half value layer (HVL), with an observed 60–65% increase as the photon energy increases from 0.6691 to 1.333 MeV.

Abstract:Investigations were conducted on the addition of barium's impact on the radiation shielding and physical attributes of five different glasses, designated S1–S5, with varying BaO contents. Using two point sources namely Co 60 and Cs 137 along with a scintillation detector [NaI(TL)], experimental measurements were made of the shielding parameters of γ-rays, namely the effective atomic number (Z eff ), electron density (N el ), half-value layer (HVL), linear attenuation coefficient (μ), mass attenuation coefficient (μ m ), mean free path (λ), and radiation protection effectiveness at the energies of 0.664, 1.177, and 1.334 MeV, and comparisons made with recently considered glasses as well as frequently employed materials for γ-ray shielding. The results show that the examined glasses' physical and radiation shielding qualities are improved by the addition of BaO. The μ values increased from 0.245 to 0.275 cm −1 (0.662 MeV), from 0.174 to 0.198 cm −1 (1.173 MeV), and from 0.161 to 0.189 (1.332 MeV). The observed values of HVL decreased from 2.83, 3.98, and 4.3 cm to 2.5, 3.5, and 3.62 cm at 0.662, 1.173, and 1.332 MeV, respectively, for the samples S1 and S5. In addition, the S5 glass sample was determined to have the best protection against photon among all the samples that were evaluated, as well as against recently considered glasses and those materials often utilized for gamma-ray shielding purposes.

Abstract:Three borate glass systems with chemical formula 65 B 2 O 3 + 30 Na 2 O + 5 (x) wt%; x = Al 2 O 3 , MgO, and Li 2 O were fabricated by the common melting-annealing method and coded as BNAl, BNMg, and BNLi, respectively. XRD pattern revealed the non-crystalline form and the glassy states of the prepared samples. UV-optical absorption spectra showed UV cutoff peaks in the range 320–340 nm and optical energy gap (Eopt) by Tauc's model (E Tauc's ) and ASF method (E ASF ) revealed quite similar values ranged from 2.60 to 3 eV before irradiation and 2.23 to 2.60 eV after 20 kGy of gamma irradiation. Raman spectra show three detectable regions at; (i) 250–600 cm −1 , (ii) 500–1000 cm −1 and (iii) 1000–2000 cm −1 correlated to different borate forms. Many radiation shielding parameters were theoretically calculated using Phy-X/PSD and simulated via Monte Carlo code (MCNP-5) in photon energy range (0.015–15 MeV). Mass attenuation coefficient (MAC), linear gamma attenuation coefficient (LAC), effective atomic number (Z eff ), fast neutron macroscopic cross section (∑ R ), exposure buildup factor (EBF) and energy absorption buildup factor (EABF) at various penetration depths PD, as well as half (HVL) and tenth value layers (TVL) and mean free path (MFP) were also estimated. The shielding parameters showed the order of (MAC, LAC) BNAl > (MAC,LAC) BNMg > (MAC, LAC) BNLi . The stability of the glasses optical, and structural properties against gamma irradiation indicate the capable use of the glasses for radiation shielding applications specially Al 2 O 3 glass with the heaviest atomic weight and the highest capacity for radiation shielding protection.

Abstract:The role La2O3 on the radiation shielding properties of La2O3-CaO-B2O3-SiO2 glass systems was investigated. The energies were selected between 0.284 and 1.275 MeV and Phy-X software was used for the calculations. BLa10 glass had the least linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) at all the tested energies, while BLa30 had the greatest, which indicated that increasing the content of La2O3 in the BLa-X glasses enhances the shielding performance of these glasses. The mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) of BLa15 decreases from 0.150 cm2/g to 0.054 cm2/g at energies of 0.284 MeV and 1.275 MeV, respectively, while the MAC of BLa25 decreases from 0.164 cm2/g to 0.053 cm2/g for the same energies, respectively. At all energies, the effective atomic number (Zeff) values follow the trend BLa10 < BLa15 < BLa20 < BLa25 < BLa30. The half value thickness (HVL) of the BLa-X glass shields were also investigated. The minimum HVL values are found at 0.284 MeV. The HVL results demonstrated that BLa30 is the most space-efficient shield. The tenth value layer (TVL) results demonstrated that the glasses are more effective attenuators at lower energies, while decreasing in ability at greater energies. These mean free path results proved that increasing the density of the glasses, by increasing the amount of La2O3 content, lowers MFP, and increases attenuation, which means that BLa30, the glass with the greatest density, absorbs the most amount of radiation.

Abstract:Melt quenching technique has been used to fabricate calcium boro-phosphate glasses doped with praseodymium oxide ions. With increased P 2 O 5 content, structural parameters like oxygen molar volume (Vo) and oxygen packing density (OPD) indicate an opposing trend. In addition to optical factors like optical electronegativity, absorption edge, and direct and indirect bandgap values being estimated and discussed, optical absorption spectra have been recorded for all the glasses. The presence of ionic bond behaviour confirms the strong structural and optical property changes caused by the P 2 O 5 content. Using the Phy-X software application, the radiation shielding parameters were investigated. The incorporation of B 2 O 3 , CaCO 3 , and P 2 O 5 offers more number of bridging oxygens which further leads to closely packed nature. Considering the glass sample B0PCM:Pr, the highest linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) is determined. The LAC results showed that at high energy levels, the glass's shielding performance became more consistent. The results of the effective atomic number analysis demonstrated the impact that CaCO 3 has on the glass's shielding effectiveness, with a higher concentration of CaCO 3 improving the material's defence against gamma radiation. For B0PCM:Pr glass, the half value layer (HVL) rises from 2.101 to 3.444 cm at 0.284 to 1.333 MeV. Certainly, it has been observed that the glass tends to have a smaller HVL when it contains more CaCO 3 with lesser P 2 O 5 content.

Abstract:Glass composite materials are the most widely used radiation shielding materials. Barium aluminosilicate glass have versatile properties which make them very useful for applications in industries. In the present study, the mass attenuation coefficient, effective atomic numbers as well as effective electron densities of barium calcium aluminosilicate glass (BCAS) were studied by adding boron nitride nanotubes in various concentrations. Analysis were conducted using phy-x/PSD simulation codes. It as was found that MAC and δa decrease with increasing photon energy in consistent with previous works. It was also found that attenuation parameters such as MAC, LAC, HVL and Zeff were all influenced by change in density of BCAS/BNNT glass. The present study found BCAS/BNNT1 glass as best for gamma radiation protection.

Abstract:In this work, borate glass systems containing lanthanum oxide (La2O3), nickel oxide (NiO), and sodium oxide (Na2O) were prepared using the melt quenching technique by changing the La2O3/B2O3 contents. Furthermore, the structural, optical, and radiation shielding characteristics of these glasses were investigated. Optical transmittance was measured to show that all glass samples have good transparency in the visible range. Structurally, with increasing La2O3/B2O3 contents, the density increases (from 2.226 to 3.184 g . c m − 3 ), the molar volume decreases, and the average bond density increases. Furthermore, with increasing La2O3/B2O3 contents, the refractive index and optical basicity shift toward higher values while the electronegativity decreases. On the other hand, the radiation shielding properties, such as mass attenuation coefficient and half value layer, show enhanced behaviors with further La2O3 additions. Further, we found that the HVL of the highest La2O3-containing glass samples is smaller than all commonly used radiation shielding materials. Finally, the combination of enhanced radiation shielding properties and good transparency makes the current glasses good candidates in the radiation shielding field.

Abstract:Melt quenching technique was used to create Bismuth Boro-Silicate nano glasses with compositions of 45SiO2-10CaO- 25Na2O- xBi2O3- (20-x) B2O3 (where x is 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 mol %). Standard point sources AM-241, Ba-133, Co-60, Cs-137, and Eu-152 were used in the radiation experiment to evaluate the attenuation coefficients spanning the energy range of 59.51 keV to 1048.01 keV. The findings show that adding Bi2O3 in place of B2O3 increases the following: radiation protection efficiency (RPE%), transmission factor (TF%), absorption buildup factor values (ABF), exposure buildup factor values (EBF), mass attenuation coefficients (MACs), linear attenuation coefficients (LACs), and radiation protection efficiency (RPE%). In comparison to lead glass, these findings demonstrate the potential of nano Bismuth Boro-Silicate glass as a radiation shielding material.
Gamma attenuation parameters of some borate glasses

Abstract:In this study we have reported the borate-based glasses in the form of $4(75 - x)B-2O-3 - xBi_2O_3 - 10Na_2O - 10CaO - 5Al_2O_3$ ($0 \le x \le 25$ mol%) for gamma-ray and neutron shielding applications, and for this purpose mass attenuation coefficients of these glasses have been investigated using Geant4 code and XCOM program in the energy range between 1 keV and 10 MeV. A good agreement between the simulation results and computed values was observed. The obtained values were then used to calculate the other related shielding parameters such as half value layer (HVL), mean free path (MFP) and effective atomic numbers ($Z_{\rm eff}$). Exposure buildup factors of the glasses were also evaluated by using the geometrical progression (G-P) method. Additionally, neutron effective removal cross-sections of each selected glass have been computed. The results indicate that the Bi2O3 content in the glass sample affects the radiation shielding properties. It can be concluded that the glass coded as F offers superior gamma-ray shielding properties, while the glass coded as D offers better neutron shielding features among the other samples.

Abstract:In this paper, we prepared 10Na 2 O-15PbO-10SiO 2 -(65-x)B 2 O 3 -xBaO (x=5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 mol%) glasses using melt quenching method. For the prepared glasses, we studied the radiation shielding properties using Phy-X software. The mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) was determined at 0.122 and 0.245 MeV and the results demonstrated that the MAC at 0.122 MeV is higher than that at 0.245 MeV. For the glass with 5 mol% BaO, the MAC values at 0.122 and 0.245 MeV are 1.285 and 0.292 cm 2 /g, respectively. The glass with 25 mol% BaO has higher MAC values than the other glasses, which indicated that increasing the amount of BaO in the glass system at the expense of B 2 O 3 will improve the material's attenuation capacity. The change in the linear attenuation coefficient (∆LAC) upon adding BaO to the glass system was examined, and the results showed that the addition of BaO has a significant impact on attenuation at low energies. The effective atomic number (Z ef ) was calculated and we found that the inclusion of BaO causes a shift in the Z eff at all energies. At 0.122 MeV, the Z eff values are equal to 48.00, 49.39, 50.68, 51.87 and 52.97 for the glasses with 5 to 25 mol% BaO respectively. Also, for the same glasses but at 0.678 MeV, the Z eff values are 12.89, 13.87, 14.92, 16.05 and 17.27 respectively. The mean free path was examined at 0.296 MeV and we found that there is an opposite relationship between the MFP values and the BaO concentration in the samples. According to obtained results, the glass with 25 mol% BaO has the highest shielding potential at the selected energy range.

Abstract:Lead borate glass is the best radiation shielding glass when lead is in high concentration. However, it has low transparency after radiation exposure. Radiation decreases transparency due to chemical and physical changes in the glass matrix, such as creating or healing defects in the glass network. The addition of rare earth elements like cerium and dysprosium oxides to lead borate glasses can improve their transparency and durability as radiation shielding barriers. The newly manufactured glasses' optical absorption, structural, and radiation shielding properties were measured. The optical characteristics of the generated samples were examined to determine the effect of the cerium/dysprosium ratio on the structural alterations, specifically in the presence of bridging oxygen (BO) and non-bridging oxygen (NBO). Incorporating Ce 3+ results in peaks at 195 nm for borate units, 225 nm for Ce 3+ , and a broadened peak at 393 nm due to overlapping peaks for Ce 3+ and Ce 4+ in the UV region. By adding Dy, multiple peaks are observed at 825, 902, 1095, 1275, and 1684 nm, corresponding to the transition from 6 H 15/2 ground state to 6 F 5/2 , 6 F 7/2 , 6 F 9/2 , 6 F 11/2 , and 6 H 11/2 . The samples were also tested before and after exposure to gamma irradiation from a 60 Co source at a dose of 75 kGy to assess their stability against radiation. The energy gap value during irradiation shows decreased non-bridging oxygen. The energy gap difference before and after irradiation for the M4 sample shows higher NBO to BO conversion, reducing radiation damage and improving structural stability. Furthermore, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was utilized to get insight into the coordination chemistry of the created glass samples. The half-value layer (HVL), radiation protection efficiency (RPE), neutron removal cross-section (FRNCS), mean free path (MFP), mass attenuation coefficients (MAC), and effective atomic numbers (Z ef ) of the glassy structure were calculated theoretically to assess its radiation shielding qualities. The linear attenuation coefficient order for the prepared samples was M1 > M2 > M3 > M4. The FRNCS values were 0.090, 0.083, 0.081, and 0.079 cm −1 for samples M1, M2, M3, and M4, respectively.

Abstract:In this paper, the synthesis and gamma-radiation shielding attributes of xMgO-(30-x)BaO-69.5B2O3-0.5Fe2O3 glasses are reported. The aim is to ascertain the optimum chemical structure of the glass system for gamma radiation shielding applications and dosimetry. The simple melt and quench method was adopted for the synthesis of the xMgO-(30-x)BaO-69.5B2O3-0.5Fe2O3 glasses, where for x = 0, 5, 10, 12, and 15 mol% represented MBBFe-0, MBBFe-1, MBBFe-2, MBBFe-3, and MBBFe-4, respectively. The mass attenuation coefficients μ / ρ of the glasses were evaluated using the XCOM and FLUKA simulations for the photon energy range of 15 keV–15 MeV. The differences between the values of μ / ρ evaluated with FLUKA and XCOM were within 0.96%. The mass attenuation coefficients of MBBFe-0, MBBFe-1, MBBFe-2, MBBFe-3, and MBBFe-4 ranged from 0.0288 to 28.6205 cm2/g, 0.0279–25.6462 cm2/g, 0.0268–22.2712 cm2/g, 0.0260–20.4073 cm2/g and 0.0251–18.4086 cm2/g, respectively. The corresponding values of the half-value layer at 15 MeV are 7.06 cm, 7.64 cm, 8.25 cm, 8.70 cm, and 9.53 cm for MBBFe-0, MBBFe-1, MBBFe-2, MBBFe-3, and MBBFe-4, respectively. The specific gamma constant values of MBBFe-X glasses are in the range 11.289–264.417 Rm2/Cihr, 10.871–236.716 Rm2/Cihr, 10.386–205.282 Rm2/Cihr, 9.931–187.921 Rm2/Cihr and 9.444–175.515 Rm2/Cihr for MBBFe-0, MBBFe-1, MBBFe-2, MBBFe-3, and MBBFe-4, respectively. The substitution of BaO with MgO therefore, depreciated the gamma shielding efficacy, photon energy absorption abilities, and interaction per unit mass of the MBBFe-X glasses. This study concludes that MBBFe-0 is the best gamma absorber among the studied glasses and has the potential to be a good gamma-radiation shield with an efficiency that supersedes many traditional and modern shielding materials such as concrete, metal alloys, polymers, rocks, commercial glass shields, and other shielding glasses.

Abstract:Three borate glasses of 50, 35, and 15 mol% PbO-doped Ce, Sb, or Mn ions were fabricated via the melting-annealing procedure. Their structural features were inspected before and after 250 kGy of gamma irradiation using FTIR and ESR techniques. The spectra of the ESR and FTIR vibrational bands remain constant, with a minor reduction in N4 and an enhancement in density values after irradiation, indicating the large structural stability and glass compactness. Many radiation shielding parameters were studied, such as gamma dose rate (μSv/h), dose transmission %, lifetime cancer risk %, macroscopic effective removal cross-section (∑ R ), mass stopping power, and projected range values were considered for protons particles by SRIM Monte Carlo simulation code and ESTAR program. The whole data reveals the high radiation shielding efficiency of the glasses compared to other standard shields to be used as glass immobilizers for radioactive wastes or storage containers, e.g., for nuclear medicine units in hospitals.

Enhancing radiation shielding effectiveness: a comparative study of barium-doped tellurite glasses for gamma and neutron radiation protection

Abstract:This study investigated the radiation shielding performance of the xBaO-(30-x)TeO 2 -35Bi 2 O 3 -35B 2 O 3 glass system, where x = 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25, using Phy-X/PSD software and MCNPX Monte Carlo code. Key radiation shielding indicators, including attenuation coefficients, half value layer (HVL), tenth value layer (TVL), effective atomic number (Z eff ), mean free path (MFP), and build-up factors, were measured within the energy range of 0.015–15 MeV. Further, the study assessed the glasses' capacity to block fast neutrons, using the fast neutron removal cross-section (ΣR) as a metric. The results showed that gamma shielding effectiveness follows the order: BaTBiB-1 < BaTBiB-2 < BaTBiB-3 < BaTBiB-4 < BaTBiB-5 at all photon energies. Additionally, the ΣR values for BaTBiB-1 to BaTBiB-5 glasses were 0.10179, 0.10263, 0.10362, 0.10581, and 0.10623 cm −1 , respectively. Therefore, the findings demonstrate that including BaO enhances the gamma and neutron shielding characteristics of tellurite glasses, making them valuable for radiation-related applications.

Abstract:This work explores Bi2O3-doped borosilicate glasses' synthesis and radiation shielding characterization, and their applicability as radiation shields. The glasses are prepared via melt quenching in the composition series of 60B2O3-(22-x) SiO2-10CaO-(8+x)Bi2O3 (where x=4,8,12 and 16 mol%). The produced glasses' radiation shielding properties, such as the mass attenuation coefficient (MAC), the transmission factor (TF), and the effective atomic number (Zeff), were examined, and the effect of Bi2O3 on the samples' radiation shielding performance was explored. The glass sample with 24 mol% Bi2O3 exhibited notable efficiency in shielding against gamma radiation. This is evidenced by the favourable change in the MAC, TF, and Zeff with increasing Bi2O3 content. We examined the relation between the glass thickness and the TF, with the results revealing that the 0.6 cm thickness glass possesses the highest TF compared to a thickness of 1.2 cm, indicating that at the thickness of 1.2 cm, the glass material attenuates better compared to 0.6 cm. The relation between the glasses' density and their half value layer was also examined.

Abstract:In this work we investigated new different glass compositions 20PbO–20BaO–(60 − x)B 2 O 3 –xZnO (x = 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mol%) to study the radiation shielding capability of these glass composites. The shielding ability was measured experimentally using narrow beam method (which including HPGe detector, point sources and lead collimators). The accuracy was verified by XCOM software, the linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) of the produced glasses was ascertained using both methods. We noticed that the B40Z20 glass composite (contain 20 mol%) has the highest LAC at the four examined energies (0.060, 0.662, 1.173 and 1.333 MeV) since the LAC enhances as the ZnO content increases from 0 to 20 mol%. The based shielding parameters such as HVL and RSE or called radiation shielding efficiency were determined experimentally. The HVL reduces as the glasses' density (or, more accurately, the amount of ZnO) increases. At 0.06 MeV, the HVL have the following values: 0.041, 0.039, 0.038, 0.036 and 0.035 cm for the glasses with density of 3.582, 3.739, 3.897, 4.055 and 4.212 g/cm 3 respectively.

Abstract:In recent years, the scientific community has spent significant effort exploring radiation-shielding glass materials. The present work was conducted by synthesizing a glass series of 20La 2 O–10BaO –15Na 2 O–(55− x )SiO 2 – x Bi 2 O 3 , x : 0, 5, 15, and 25 wt%. After producing the samples, in-depth studies were performed on the physical, optical, thermal, and radiation attenuation properties of the fabricated glass series. A radical color change from nearly neutral to dark-brown color occurred as Bi 2 O 3 entered the glass network. The density values equaled 2.8324, 2.9511, 3.0992, and 3.3657 g cm −3 for LBSS1 to LBSS4 samples, respectively. According to XRD patterns, neither sharp nor moderate peaks developed; a hump-like formation between 20 and 35 degrees was visible in all glass samples. FTIR measurement revealed transmission as a function of varying wavenumber from 4000 to 400 cm −1 for the prepared glass specimens, and different bond types were noted. The UV–Vis technique removes it displayed that increasing Bi 2 O 3 content blocked light transmission throughout the glass medium. The radiation-shielding parameters of linear attenuation coefficient (LAC), mass attenuation coefficient, transmission factor, and half value layer were calculated with experimental and MC simulation methods for all glass samples at six different energies between 356 and 1332 keV. The results were compared with the Phy-X database, and good agreement was obtained. The highest LACs were obtained at the lowest energy (356 keV) with values of 0.3108, 0.3455, 0.4471, and 0.5486 cm −1 for LBSS1, LBSS2, LBSS3, and LBSS4 glasses, respectively. The photon attenuation ability of the LBSS glasses increased by increasing the Bi 2 O 3 ratio, especially at low energies. Therefore, the authors can conclude that future applications, such as observation window in CT rooms, may efficiently exploit LBBS4 glass system.

Abstract:The focus of this investigation is the evaluation of the B2O3-ZnO-BaO-TiO2-Bi2O3 glasses' radiation shielding properties within the 0.122–0.867 MeV energy range. A 0.75 cm thickness glass's radiation protection efficiency (RPE) was evaluated, revealing that the higher Bi2O3 content glass exhibits superior RPE compared to the other samples. The RPE of the glasses at 0.245 MeV are equal to 73 and 83% for the 18 and 30 Bi2O3 mol % glasses, respectively. The transmission factor (TF) results demonstrated that increased glass thickness leads to a reduction in TF values, leading to higher attenuation. The TF values at 0.296 MeV are 40, 22, and 14% for 0.75, 1.25 and 1.6 cm thickness, respectively. It was revealed that the higher Bi2O3 content glass has the lowest TF values. The TF values at 0.245 MeV are 27, 23, 19 and 17% for the 18, 22, 26, and 30 Bi2O3 mol % samples, respectively. At 0.245 MeV, the effective atomic number values are 40.32, 42.45, 48.58, and 48.81 for the 16, 22, 26, and 30 Bi2O3 mol % samples, respectively,

Abstract:In the present work, a glass system with developed composition consisting of B 2 O 3 , ZnO, Na 2 O and Fe 2 O 3 samples has been investigated. Glass samples were prepared using the melt quenching method and the density of the system was measured using Archimedes' principle. Spectroscopic analysis using a gamma source and a high-purity germanium detector at four energies of 0.0595, 0.6617, 1.173, and 1.333 MeV emitted from Am-241, Cs-137, and Co-60 were used to determine the attenuation parameters of present glass composites. The sample containing 45 B 2 O 3 + 10 Na 2 O + 40 ZnO + 5 Fe 2 O 3 (coded BNZF-4) had the highest mass attenuation coefficient (MAC) value at all the energies discussed compared to the other composites. Whoever, the BNZF-1 sample had the lowest value at all ranges of energies. The transmission factors (TF, %) of the manufactured samples were calculated, at 0.0595 MeV (TF, %) values are 32.6429 and 6.4612 for samples BNZF-1 and BNZF-4, respectively. The statistical results demonstrated significantly better to increase the ZnO concentration in the sample, where the percentage of zinc oxide inside the prepared glass samples has the following direction BNZF -4 > BNZF -3 > BNZF -2 > BNZF -1. The significance of this study is that transparent, environmentally harmless glass composites with relatively high density have been prepared that can be used as shielding materials against gamma rays, especially at low energies.
