Abstract:Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), which uses a mosquito primary vector and swine as a reservoir host, poses a significant risk to human and animal health. JEV can be detected in cattle, goats and dogs. A molecular epidemiological survey of JEV was conducted in 3105 mammals from five species, swine, fox, racoon dog, yak and goat, and 17,300 mosquitoes from 11 Chinese provinces. JEV was detected in pigs from Heilongjiang (12/328, 3.66%), Jilin (17/642, 2.65%), Shandong (14/832, 1.68%), Guangxi (8/278, 2.88%) and Inner Mongolia (9/952, 0.94%); in goats (1/51, 1.96%) from Tibet; and mosquitoes (6/131, 4.58%) from Yunnan. A total of 13 JEV envelope (E) gene sequences were amplified in pigs from Heilongjiang (5/13), Jilin (2/13) and Guangxi (6/13). Swine had the highest JEV infection rate of any animal species, and the highest infection rates were found in Heilongjiang. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that the predominant strain in Northern China was genotype I. Mutations were found at residues 76, 95, 123, 138, 244, 474 and 475 of E protein but all sequences had predicted glycosylation sites at ′N154. Three strains lacked the threonine 76 phosphorylation site from non-specific (unsp) and protein kinase G (PKG) site predictions; one lacked the threonine 186 phosphorylation site from protein kinase II (CKII) prediction; and one lacked the tyrosine 90 phosphorylation site from epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) prediction. The aim of the current study was to contribute to JEV prevention and control through the characterization of its molecular epidemiology and prediction of functional changes due to E-protein mutations.

Abstract:Since the first Chinese case report of Japanese encephalitis, Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) has circulated in China for at least 60 years. Even though pigs play a critical role in the JEV transmission cycle information on the prevalence of JEV in pigs has not been investigated in China. As the central Chinese province of Henan has the largest human population in China, a history of serious JEV and is the largest pig producing province it was chosen for this study. We have found that currently natural infection with JEV in pigs and mosquitoes is prevalent and both genotypes 1 and 3 co-circulate in pigs and mosquitoes in central China. Phylogenetic analysis showed that all of the newly obtained pig-derived JEV isolates are more closely related to isolates from the 1950s to 1960s than to those recently isolated from humans and mosquitoes. Further analyses based on all the previous reported Chinese isolates indicates that presently genotype 3 JEV is the predominant genotype in pigs but genotype 1 JEV is emerging and spreading rapidly in recent years. Our study provides information for understanding the current epidemiology of JEV in China and suggests possible measures applicable to the further control of JEV.

Abstract:Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is the leading cause of human encephalitis in Asia. JEV is a vector-borne disease, mainly transmitted by Culex mosquitoes, with Ardeidae birds as maintenance hosts and pigs as amplifying hosts. Other vertebrate animal hosts have been suggested to play a role in the epidemiology of JEV. This scoping review followed PRISMA guidelines to identify species in which evidence of naturally occurring JEV infection was detected in vertebrates other than ardeid birds, pigs and people. Following systematic searches, 4372 records were screened, and data were extracted from 62 eligible studies. Direct evidence (virus, viral antigen or viral RNA) of JEV infection was identified in a variety of mammals and birds (not always identified to the species level), including bats, passerine birds (family Turdidae), livestock (cattle [ Bos taurus ] and a goat [ Capra hircus ]), carnivores (two meerkats [ Suricata suricatta ]), and one horse ( Equus caballus ). Bat families included Pteropodidae, Vespertilionidae, Rhinolophidae, Miniopteridae, Hipposideridae. Indirect evidence (antibodies) was identified in several mammalian and avian orders, as well as reported in two reptile species. However, a major limitation of the evidence of JEV infection identified in this review was diagnostic test accuracy, particularly for serological testing. Studies generally did not report diagnostic sensitivity or specificity which is critical given the potential for cross-reactivity in orthoflavivirus detection. We hypothesise that bats and passerine birds could play an underappreciated role in JEV epidemiology; however, development of diagnostic tests to differentiate JEV from other orthoflaviviruses will be essential for effective surveillance in these, as well as the companion and livestock species that could be used to evaluate JEV control measures in currently endemic regions. Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is the leading cause of encephalitis in Asia and the Western Pacific, with estimated 100,000 cases in people (mainly children) annually. Up to one third of cases result in death, and of those who survive, half can suffer ongoing neurological problems. Japanese encephalitis virus circulation is complex. It is transmitted via mosquitoes between hosts. Although well-known key hosts include pigs and water birds, our review showed that there are others that should be considered in surveillance programs such as bats and perching birds. We also found that detection is challenging because diagnostic tests cross-react with other viruses. Both improved understanding of hosts and better diagnostic tests are needed to develop surveillance systems to reduce JEV incidence in people.

Abstract:Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), a mosquito-borne flavivirus, is the leading cause of pediatric encephalitis in Southeast Asia. The enzootic transmission of JEV involves two types of amplifying hosts, swine and avian species. The involvement of pigs in the transmission cycle makes JEV a unique pathogen because human Japanese encephalitis cases are frequently linked to the epizootic spillover from pigs, which can not only develop viremia to sustain transmission but also signs of neurotropic and reproductive disease. The existing knowledge of the epidemiology of JEV largely suggests that viremic pigs are a source of infectious viruses for competent mosquito species, especially Culex tritaeniorhynchus in the endemic regions. However, several recently published studies that applied molecular detection techniques to the characterization of JEV pathogenesis in pigs described the shedding of JEV through multiple routes and persistent infection, both of which have not been reported in the past. These findings warrant a re-examination of the role that pigs are playing in the transmission and maintenance of JEV. In this review, we summarize discoveries on the shedding of JEV during the course of infection and analyze the available published evidence to discuss the possible role of the vector-free JEV transmission route among pigs in viral maintenance.

High-risk landscapes of Japanese encephalitis virus outbreaks in India converge on wetlands, rain-fed agriculture, wild Ardeidae, and domestic pigs and chickens

Abstract:Abstract Background Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a zoonotic mosquito-borne virus that causes a significant burden of disease across Asia, particularly in India, with high mortality in children. JEV circulates in wild ardeid birds and domestic pig reservoirs, both of which generate sufficiently high viraemias to infect vector mosquitoes, which can then subsequently infect humans. The landscapes of these hosts, particularly in the context of anthropogenic ecotones and resulting wildlife–livestock interfaces, are poorly understood and thus significant knowledge gaps in the epidemiology of JEV persist. This study sought to investigate the landscape epidemiology of JEV outbreaks in India over the period 2010–2020 to determine the influence of shared wetland and rain-fed agricultural landscapes and animal hosts on outbreak risk. Methods Using surveillance data from India’s National Centre for Disease Control Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme, JEV outbreaks were modelled as an inhomogeneous Poisson point process and externally validated against independently sourced data. Results Outbreak risk was strongly associated with the habitat suitability of ardeid birds, both pig and chicken density, and the shared landscapes between fragmented rain-fed agriculture and both river and freshwater marsh wetlands. Conclusion The results from this work provide the most complete understanding of the landscape epidemiology of JEV in India to date and suggest important One Health priorities for control and prevention across fragmented terrain comprising a wildlife–livestock interface that favours spillover to humans.
A Lentiviral Vector Expressing Japanese Encephalitis Virus-like Particles Elicits Broad Neutralizing Antibody Response in Pigs

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is the major cause of viral encephalitis in Southeast Asia. Vaccination of domestic pigs has been suggested as a "one health" strategy to reduce viral disease transmission to humans. The efficiency of two lentiviral TRIP/JEV vectors expressing the JEV envelope prM and E glycoproteins at eliciting protective humoral response was assessed in a mouse model and piglets.METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: A gene encoding the envelope proteins prM and E from a genotype 3 JEV strain was inserted into a lentiviral TRIP vector. Two lentiviral vectors TRIP/JEV were generated, each expressing the prM signal peptide followed by the prM protein and the E glycoprotein, the latter being expressed either in its native form or lacking its two C-terminal transmembrane domains. In vitro transduction of cells with the TRIP/JEV vector expressing the native prM and E resulted in the efficient secretion of virus-like particles of Japanese encephalitis virus. Immunization of BALB/c mice with TRIP/JEV vectors resulted in the production of IgGs against Japanese encephalitis virus, and the injection of a second dose one month after the prime injection greatly boosted antibody titers. The TRIP/JEV vectors elicited neutralizing antibodies against JEV strains belonging to genotypes 1, 3, and 5. Immunization of piglets with two doses of the lentiviral vector expressing JEV virus-like particles led to high titers of anti-JEV antibodies, that had efficient neutralizing activity regardless of the JEV genotype tested.CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: Immunization of pigs with the lentiviral vector expressing JEV virus-like particles is particularly efficient to prime antigen-specific humoral immunity and trigger neutralizing antibody responses against JEV genotypes 1, 3, and 5. The titers of neutralizing antibodies elicited by the TRIP/JEV vector are sufficient to confer protection in domestic pigs against different genotypes of JEV and this could be of a great utility in endemic regions where more than one genotype is circulating.

Abstract:Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus that is the leading cause of pediatric viral encephalitis in Asia. Japanese encephalitis virus is transmitted by Culex species mosquitoes that also vector several zoonotic flaviviruses. Despite the knowledge that mosquito saliva contains molecules that may alter flavivirus pathogenesis, whether or not the deposition of viruses by infected mosquitoes has an impact on the kinetics and severity of JEV infection has not been thoroughly examined, especially in mammalian species involved in the enzootic transmission. Most JEV pathogenesis models were established using needle inoculation. Mouse models for West Nile (WNV) and dengue (DENV) viruses have shown that mosquito saliva can potentiate flavivirus infections and exacerbate disease symptoms. In this study, we determined the impact of mosquito salivary components on the pathogenesis of JEV in pigs, a species directly involved in its transmission cycle as an amplifying host. Interestingly, co-injection of JEV and salivary gland extract (SGE) collected from Culex quinquefasciatus produced milder febrile illness and shortened duration of nasal shedding but had no demonstrable impact on viremia and neuroinvasion. Our findings highlight that mosquito salivary components can differentially modulate the outcomes of flavivirus infections in amplifying hosts and in mouse models.

Abstract:1 Mechanical stretch leads to cardiac hypertrophy and may ultimately cause heart failure. However, the effect of mechanical stretch on gene induction in cardiomyocytes remains to be determined. 2 In the present study, we compared transcript profiles of mechanically stretched neonatal rat cardiomyocytes with those of unstretched cells using cDNA microarrays. The microarrays contained probes for 480 known genes, including those involved in signal transduction, cell cycle regulation, the cytoskeleton and cell motility. Eighteen genes, including the eNOS gene, were identified as having significantly differential expression in response to mechanical stretch in cardiomyocytes. 3 Northern and western blot analysis further quantified the expression of the eNOS gene. Mechanical stretch increased constitutive NOS activity and nitric oxide (NO) production. The NO donor s‐nitroso‐N‐acetylpenicillamine (SNAP) inhibited mechanical stretch‐stimulated protein synthesis, as measured by [3H]‐leucine uptake. In addition, cardiomyocytes were infected with adenoviral vectors encoding cDNA for eNOS (Ad‐eNOS) and a phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK) empty vector (Ad‐PGK). In contrast with Ad‐PGK‐infected cells, in cardiomyocytes infected with Ad‐eNOS, there was increased calcium‐dependent NOS activity and nitrite production. Cardiomyocytes infected with Ad‐eNOS exhibited diminished mechanical stretch‐stimulated protein synthesis. In contrast, in eNOS‐knockdown cells, the increased eNOS protein levels and NOS activity induced by mechanical stretch were abolished, but protein synthesis was enhanced. 4 The results of the present study indicate that eNOS gene expression is induced by mechanical stretch, leading to increased constitutive NOS activity and NO production, which may be a negative regulator in cardiomyocyte hypertrophy.
Fitness adaptations of Japanese encephalitis virus in pigs following vector-free serial passaging

Abstract:Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a zoonotic mosquito-transmitted Flavivirus circulating in birds and pigs. In humans, JEV can cause severe viral encephalitis with high mortality. Considering that vector-free direct virus transmission was observed in experimentally infected pigs, JEV introduction into an immunologically naïve pig population could result in a series of direct transmissions disrupting the alternating host cycling between vertebrates and mosquitoes. To assess the potential consequences of such a realistic scenario, we passaged JEV ten times in pigs. This resulted in higher in vivo viral replication, increased shedding, and stronger innate immune responses in pigs. Nevertheless, the viral tissue tropism remained similar, and frequency of direct transmission was not enhanced. Next generation sequencing showed single nucleotide deviations in 10% of the genome during passaging. In total, 25 point mutations were selected to reach a frequency of at least 35% in one of the passages. From these, six mutations resulted in amino acid changes located in the precursor of membrane, the envelope, the non-structural 3 and the non-structural 5 proteins. In a competition experiment with two lines of passaging, the mutation M374L in the envelope protein and N275D in the non-structural protein 5 showed a fitness advantage in pigs. Altogether, the interruption of the alternating host cycle of JEV caused a prominent selection of viral quasispecies as well as selection of de novo mutations associated with fitness gains in pigs, albeit without enhancing direct transmission frequency. Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) represents a major health threat in parts of Asia and Oceania. Primary vertebrate hosts are birds and pigs, but human infection also occurs and can cause severe encephalitis with high mortality. Like other Flaviviruses transmitted by insect bites, JEV requires replication in alternating cycles between mosquitoes on one side and birds or pigs on the other side. However, we previously reported that direct transmissions between pigs in absence of mosquitos can occur. Considering the increased risks for such events after the spread of JEV to a new region with immunologically naïve pigs, the present study was performed to understand if and how a series of direct transmissions would promote JEV adaptations to pigs and change virus-host interactions. Pigs infected with JEV passaged ten times showed enhanced clinical symptoms and stronger antiviral immune response, but luckily no increase in direct transmission was observed. Nevertheless, genomic analysis demonstrated a complete change in dominant virus variants, as well as selection of six viral amino acid changes. This indicates that interruptions of the alternating lifestyle of JEV causes a strong evolutionary pressure, which through fitness adaptations can change the viral characteristics.

Abstract:The fataHties among the users of narcotics reflect the severity of the problem of drug abuse in a country. T h a t is the reason why the authors have analysed the fatalities they have seen in Denmark since the first of these cases showed up, i.e. in 1968. In every case all available material, including hospital records, police reports, records from children's homes, etc. has been studied, and that is why the analysis finishes in 1972—-the past two years will be mentioned briefly later in the paper. I t is possible here to mention only the most important facts quite briefly, but it is hoped it will give some understanding of ' the drug scene' in Denmark. The definition of the problem is a little bit difficult. It is difficult and somewhat contro versial to try to define ai-use, and the authors have chosen to speak of users in general, because they have seen a man who tried morphine for the first time die of the experi ment, and in the material there are persons who have used drugs moderately, which only a few people would regard as an abuse, but who have died of indisputable complications to their drug intake. I t is realized that some people will regard every user of drugs as an abuser, if the use is not based on medical prescription. T h e very common abuse of ordinary tablets such as barbiturates, other sleeping pills and the numerous psychopharmaca is not included in this survey. It is a very common phenomenoninDenmark, but very diflScult to clear up through a medicolegal study.
Japanese Encephalitis in Small-Scale Pig Farming in Rural Cambodia: Pig Seroprevalence and Farmer Awareness

Abstract:Japanese encephalitis (JE) is endemic in Cambodia, but circulation of JE virus (JEV) among domestic pigs has previously only been studied in the southern part of the country. The main purpose of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of JEV antibodies in smallholder pigs held in rural areas of Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear, Ratanakiri, and Stung Treng provinces, northeastern Cambodia. Another purpose was to identify possible associations between serologic status and other factors, such as reproductive disorders, and to investigate the farmers’ knowledge of mosquito-borne diseases and use of preventive measures. In October 2019, 139 households were visited throughout the study area, and 242 pigs were sampled for blood. The sera were analysed with ELISA for JEV antibodies. Household representatives were interviewed, and data were recorded for each sampled pig. The apparent seroprevalence was 89.1% in pigs between 3 and 6 months of age, and 100% in pigs over 6 months of age. In total, 93.0% of the pigs tested positive. Province appeared to be the only factor significantly associated with serologic status (p < 0.001). Almost all (97.8%) respondents knew that mosquitos could transmit diseases, and 70.5% had heard of JE. However, only one respondent knew that JEV is transmitted to people through mosquito bites. Very few respondents knew that pigs can become infected with JEV, and no one knew that mosquitos transmit the virus. All families used some sort of mosquito protection for themselves, but only 15.1% protected their pigs from mosquito bites. The children were vaccinated against JE in 93 households, while adults only were vaccinated in eight households. The results suggest that JEV transmission is intense in northeastern Cambodia, and that people’s knowledge about the transmission route of JEV and the role of pigs in the transmission cycle is low. Fortunately, people are well aware of mosquito-borne diseases in general and use mosquito protection, and many children are vaccinated against JE. Nonetheless, it is important that national vaccination is continued, and that people—especially in rural areas where pigs are commonly kept—are educated on the ecology and transmission of JEV.

Abstract:JE vaccination is the most effective and economical method of preventing JE. A live attenuated JE vaccine has been widely used in many countries since 1989, playing an important role in controlling JE outbreaks. However, whether the large-scale use of the live attenuated JE vaccine will lead to the dissemination of the vaccine virus in the environment and whether reversion of the neuroattenuation of the virus will occur during the transmission process remain major concerns for some researchers. To evaluate the transmission of a live attenuated JEV vaccine in mosquitoes and hosts, JE SA14-14-2 attenuated vaccine virus was intrathoracically (i.t.) inoculated into Culex tritaeniorhynchus, a native vector. Subsequently, virus harvested from inoculated mosquitoes was inoculated into pigs, a mammalian reservoir. The virus was isolated from the pigs and passaged once again in Culex tritaeniorhynchus. The genome sequences and virulence of the passaged viruses were then investigated. While a few nucleotide substitutions occurred during passaging, there was no change in the encoded amino acids. After intracerebral (i.c.) inoculation of mice with the vaccine, no pathological effects were observed. In addition, virus virulence remained low after inoculation of suckling mouse brains. These results indicate that vaccination of individuals with the live vaccine will not result in transmission of the live SA14-14-2 vaccine virus through mosquito biting and virus amplified in pigs.

Abstract:Hidden Markov Model (HMM) was evaluated for P300 detection in electroencephalogram (EEG) signal. In some applications like the brain-computer interface (BCI), where real time detection is a concern, HMM could be a useful tool. Wavelet enhanced independent component analysis (wICA) was used for electrooculogram (EOG) artifact removal and B-spline wavelet transform for background EEG noise cancellation. HMM results are enhanced by a multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network. Accuracy of the proposed HMM classifier is 81.6% on the validation dataset.
Development of immunochromatographic strip assay to detect recent infection of Japanese encephalitis virus in swine population

Abstract:Japanese Encephalitis (JE) is a mosquito borne re-emerging viral zoonotic disease. Sero-conversion in swine occurs 2–3 weeks before human infection, thus swine act as a suitable sentinel for predicting JE outbreaks in humans. The present study was undertaken with the objective of developing immunochromatographic strip (ICS) assay to detect recent infection of Japanese Encephalitis virus (JEV) in swine population. The two formats of ICS assay were standardized. In the first format, gold nanoparticles (GNP) were conjugated with goat anti-pig IgM (50 μg/ml) followed by spotting of recombinant NS1 protein (1 mg/ml) of JEV on NCM as test line and protein G (1 mg/ml) as control line. In the format-II, GNP were conjugated with rNS1 protein (50 μg/ml) followed by spotting of Goat anti-pig IgM (1 mg/ml) as test line and IgG against rNS1 (1 mg/ml) as control line. To decrease the non- specific binding, blocking of serum and nitrocellulose membrane (NCM) was done using 5% SMP in PBS-T and 1% BSA, respectively. Best reaction conditions for the assay were observed when 10 μl of GNP conjugate and 50 μl of 1:10 SMP blocked sera was reacted on BSA blocked NCM followed by reaction time of 15 mins. Samples showing both test and control line were considered positive whereas samples showing only control line were considered negative. A total of 318 field swine sera samples were screened using indirect IgM ELISA and developed ICS assay. Relative diagnostic sensitivity and specificity of format-I was 81.25% and 93.0% whereas of format-II was 87.50% and 62.93%, respectively. Out of 318 samples tested, 32 were positive through IgM ELISA with sero-positivity of 10.06% while sero-positivity with format-I of ICS was 8.1%. Owing to optimal sensitivity and higher specificity of format-I, it was validated in three different labs and the kappa agreement ranged from 0.80 to 1, which signifies excellent repeatability of the developed assay to test field swine sera samples for detecting recent JEV infection.

Abstract:Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) is a major threat to human health. Bangladesh is considering introducing a JEV vaccine; however, the investment case is hampered by a limited understanding of key aspects of JEV ecology. We conducted a seroprevalence study in a high-incidence region using an assay that limits cross-reactivity with dengue virus. We also trapped mosquitoes and collected information about potential host species. We used mathematical models to recover risk factors for infection and underlying probabilities of severe disease and death. We observed 19.0% [95% confidence interval (CI):17.1 to 21.1] of JEV antibodies. On average, 0.7% (95% CI: 0.2 to 2.0) of the susceptible population gets infected yearly, with pig proximity being the main human infection risk factor. Our traps captured 10 different mosquito species that have been linked with JEV transmission. We estimated that 1 in 1000 infections results in severe disease, 1 in 10,000 results in death, and 76% of severe cases are missed by surveillance.
Assessment of effectiveness of Japanese encephalitis vaccination in West Bengal, India using sample positivity rate as an alternate measure

Abstract:Background & objectives: Japanese encephalitis (JE), is a vaccine preventable mosquito borne arboviral disease. The State Health Department of West Bengal, India started a vaccination programme using live attenuated, single dose JE vaccine (SA-14-14-2) in children aged 1-below15 years since 2006 in five districts. The objectives were to compare Sample Positivity Rates (SPR) of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) cases for JE between vaccinated & unvaccinated districts and observe trend of SPR & Cumulative Incidence in vaccinated districts for three years. Methods: The study was based on the analysis of surveillance data from all tested AES cases including confirmed JE (IgM ELISA) from all JE testing facilities existent in the state during the study period (2011-13). Calculation of Cumulative Incidence, Odds Ratio (OR) with 95% CI, Preventive Fraction and Chi Square for trend (for SPR) was done. Trend of incidence was assessed by linear regression. Results: In three years, 5 vaccinated districts contributed 945 AES and 88 JE cases (SPR - 9.3%) compared to 1807 and 254 (SPR - 14.1%) JE cases in 14 unvaccinated districts. Effectiveness of vaccination was evident by gradual decline of Odds Ratio in favour of vaccinated districts. Vaccination effectiveness of 68% overall and 80% [OR = 0.20 (0.10 - 0.41)] in below 15 years were observed. Trend of SPR was found significantly declining in most of the vaccinated districts. Interpretation & conclusion: Significant reduction in sample positivity rate over three years in most of the vaccinated districts indicated that the vaccination programme had been gradually effective.
Genomic Characteristics and E Protein Bioinformatics Analysis of JEV Isolates from South China from 2011 to 2018

Abstract:Japanese encephalitis is a mosquito-borne zoonotic epidemic caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV). JEV is not only the leading cause of Asian viral encephalitis, but also one of the leading causes of viral encephalitis worldwide. To understand the genetic evolution and E protein characteristics of JEV, 263 suspected porcine JE samples collected from South China from 2011 to 2018 were inspected. It was found that 78 aborted porcine fetuses were JEV-nucleic-acid-positive, with a positive rate of 29.7%. Furthermore, four JEV variants were isolated from JEV-nucleic-acid-positive materials, namely, CH/GD2011/2011, CH/GD2014/2014, CH/GD2015/2015, and CH/GD2018/2018. The cell culture and virus titer determination of four JEV isolates showed that four JEV isolates could proliferate stably in Vero cells, and the virus titer was as high as 108.5 TCID 50/mL. The whole-genome sequences of four JEV isolates were sequenced. Based on the phylogenetic analysis of the JEV E gene and whole genome, it was found that CH/GD2011/2011 and CH/GD2015/2015 belonged to the GIII type, while CH/GD2014/2014 and CH/GD2018/2018 belonged to the GI type, which was significantly different from that of the JEV classical strain CH/BJ-1/1995. Bioinformatics tools were used to analyze the E protein phosphorylation site, glycosylation site, B cell antigen epitope, and modeled 3D structures of E protein in four JEV isolates. The analysis of the prevalence of JEV and the biological function of E protein can provide a theoretical basis for the prevention and control of JEV and the design of antiviral drugs.
