Abstract:Inspired by the evolutionary strategy and the biological DNA mechanism, a hybrid DNA based genetic algorithm (HDNA-GA) with the population update operation and the adaptive parameter scope operation is proposed for solving parameter estimation problems of dynamic systems. The HDNA-GA adopts the nucleotides based coding and some molecular operations. In HDNA-GA, three new crossover operators, replacement operator, transposition operator and reconstruction operator, are designed to improve the population diversity, and the mutation operator with adaptive mutation probability is applied to guarantee against stalling at local peak. Besides, the simulated annealing based selection operator is used to guide the evolution direction. In order to overcome the premature convergence drawbacks of GAs and enhance the algorithm global and local search abilities, the population update operator and the adaptive parameter scope operator are suggested. Numerous comparative experiments on benchmark functions and real-world parameter estimation problems in dynamic systems are conducted and the results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the HDNA-GA.

Abstract:In this paper, the authors first analyze the drawback of genetic algorithm with traditional mutation operator in preventing GA from converging prematurely, then study its influence on the diversity of genes in the same locus, and point out that the traditional mutation, to some extent, can result in premature convergence of genes in the same locus. This will cause the loss of critical alleles. Inspired by digital technique, we import two kinds of Boolean operation into GA to develop a novel mutation operator and discuss its contribution to prevent the loss of critical alleles. The experimental results of function optimization show that the improved mutation operator can prevent premature convergence effectively, and can provide a wide range of selecting control parameters for GA. Then we present a new parameter estimation algorithm based on the improved GA. Simulation experiments have been carried out and their results show that this estimation algorithm has good tracking ability and is not sensitive to the noise.

Abstract:Inspired by the mechanism of the biological DNA, a DNA based genetic algorithm (DNA-GA) is proposed to determine the kinetic parameters for the hydrogenation reaction. The considered chemical process contains five reactions and 25 unknown parameters. The DNA-GA uses the DNA encoding method to represent the potential parameters and genetic operators inspired from the biological DNA are designed to find the global optimum. The study on the performance for typical benchmark functions shows that the DNA-GA outperforms the other two methods in both convergence speed and accuracy. Based on the operating data gathered from an industrial hydrogenation unit, 25 parameters are obtained by the DNA-GA and the kinetic model for the hydrogenation reaction is established. To verify the validity of the established model, another four groups of data are used to test the established model and two previously reported models. The comparison results show that the sum of square relative errors of the model obtained by the DNA-GA is the least of the test models, and its prediction is in good agreement with the practical operating data.

Abstract:Parameter estimation of Nonlinear System Mode(lNSM)has been always the hot issue in the automatic control field. Aiming at NSM, a novel method is proposed to estimate parameter of NSM by combining the Bacterial Swarm Foraging for Optimization(DSFO). BSFO simulates the social behavior of foraging bacteria, in which the bacteria positions in the parameter spaces are set as the parameters of NSM, and the precision and efficiency for parameters identification are improved. Applied to heavy oil thermal cracking model, the method gets the precise process model, and the model outputs coincide to the actual outputs. The simulation results show that BSFO algorithm provides an attractive method to identify parameters of NSM.
A New DNA Genetic Algorithm and Its Application in Parameter Estimation

Abstract:Parameter estimation of chemical processes can be presented as a tough optimization problem which can be solved with optimization methods.As a robust global searching method,genetic algorithm (GA) has been frequently applied in this area.However,the genetic algorithm has some shortcomings,such as weak local search ability and tends to premature.Furthermore,the encoding of GA cannot reflect the genetic information of biological organism.To overcome the deficiencies of GA,a new DNA genetic algorithm is proposed for the parameter estimation of chemical engineering processes.The proposed method uses nucleotide bases to present the individual. The novel crossover and mutation operators inspired by DNA molecular are designed.The novel crossover operators include permutation crossover operator and translocation crossover operator,and the novel mutation consists of anticodon mutation and maximum-minimum mutation.The solutions with two typical test functions show that the proposed method outperforms the other two methods in the searching speed,searching precision and the success rate.Finally,this method is applied to estimate the parameters of heavy oil thermal cracking model.The results of eight cross validation shows that the proposed algorithm possesses small self-check relative error,prediction relative error,and the standard deviation of relative error.Compared with the other two models,the model established by the proposed DNA genetic algorithm has smaller modeling error.

Abstract:The traditional way to determine constrained optimize problem is Lagrange multiplier method. The demands of derivative and multiplication of peaks becomes troubles to this method. A new way -to determine such problems is supplied by the parallel search technique of genetic algorithm (GA). To improve the efficiency of the search, some scholars give out a method of two level search in which they determined the Lagrange multiplier X and parameters separately. A new GA method of multiple parameters is presented to improve the two level optimize GA. When the parameters which was optimized in two levels are coded at the same time, the two level optimization is converted to one level. Though this algorithm will not decrease operation time needed in our program, it can predigest the process of program designing and make it universal.

Abstract:A new multi-step adaptive predictive control algorithm for a class of bilinear systems is presented. The structure of the bilinear system is converted into a simple linear model by using nonlinear support vector machine (SVM) dynamic approximation with analytical control law derived. The method does not need on-line parameters estimation because the system’s internal model has been transformed into an off-line global model. Compared with other traditional methods, this control law reduces on-line parameter estimating burden. In addition, its overall linear behavior treating method allows an analytical control law available and avoids on-line nonlinear optimization. Simulation results are presented in the article to illustrate the efficiency of the method.

Abstract:A new approach to the identification of modal parameters of linear structures in the time domain is proposed in this paper by using the genetic algorithm. First, Change the identification problem to an optimal one. Then, the global optimal solutions for the required parameters, including frequency, damping ratio, amplitude and phase of the structure can be obtained by taking the advantage of the genetic algorithm. Numerical simulation results show that the approach can be used to identify the parameters precisely.

Abstract:An improved genetic programming is proposed to solve the problem of modeling the nonlinear dynamic system with unknown mechanism and mass data in industrial processes. The algorithm can identify the structure and the parameters of the model. First, based on the hierarchy model and feedback, the algorithm identifies the model according to the hierarchies until the error can be acceptable. Then, the least square method (LSM) is integrated to estimate the values of parameters in order to preserve the excellent model structure. Finally, M-estimation is adopted to overcome the large noise and increase the robustness of the model. The algorithm is applied to identify the system of Lotka-Volterra equation which is a classic nonlinear dynamic system. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm on nonlinear dynamic model identification.

Abstract:This paper considers the parameter identification for a special class of nonlinear systems, i.e., bilinear-in-parameter systems. Based on the hierarchical identification principle, a hierarchical stochastic gradient (HSG) estimation algorithm is presented. The basic idea is to decompose a bilinear-in-parameter system into two subsystems and to derive the HSG identification algorithm for estimating the system parameters by replacing the unknown variables in the information vectors with their estimates obtained at the previous time. The convergence analysis of the proposed algorithm indicates that the parameter estimation errors converge to zero under persistent excitation conditions. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is effective.

Abstract:A parameter inversing identification method based on improved genetic algorithms (GAs) is provided to attain the precise formula of the atmospheric pressure. The atmospheric specific heat ratio γ in the atmospheric pressure formula, which is derived from the polymorphic equation, is calculated exactly by using the inversion of the improved GAs, so the precise formula of the atmospheric pressure is given out and compared with the one given by the documents. The result shows that the calculated value by the improved GAs matchs the actual pressure value much better. By analyzing the data, it proves that the improved GAs is more accurate and rapid than the conventional GAs.

Abstract:The Bouc-Wen model is a versatile nonlinear smooth hysteretic model that can characterize the stiffness degradation and strength degradation of structures and components under cyclic loads. It can be widely applied to describe the hysteretic behavior of various structures. The parameters of the Bouc-Wen model are critical to determining the mechanical characteristics of the hysteretic behavior of structural components. However, because there are many parameters of unclear physical meaning, the parameters are generally determined by approaching a group approximate solution from the hysteretic data. This paper aims at efficient identification of the parameters of the Bouc-Wen model and proposes a nonlinear adaptive genetic algorithm (NAGA). The efficiency is verified through the parameter identification of four RC shear walls with different reinforcement tested under low-cycle cyclic loading by using this algorithm. The hysteretic curves and algorithm efficiency obtained from parameter identification by NAGA and by the Standard Genetic Algorithm (SGA) are compared with the experimental data. The results show that the proposed method significantly improves the identification accuracy and efficiency. The proposed method can be used in hysterical model identification and corresponding nonlinear behavior simulation of structures.

Abstract:This paper deals with parameter identification method of rotor-bearing system based on genetic algorithm and describes rotor unbalance parameter identification equations set under electromagnetism excitation. According to parameter identification equations set,using vibration response on measure locations, unbalance and bearing parameter as input-output data in order to minimize the error between model output and experimental data. Unbalance and bearing parameter are identified by means of genetic algorithm. On-line dynamics balance without trial weights is achieved.

Abstract:The method using tabu search to identify system models is developed in this paper. By converting the system identification problem into an optimization problem in parameter space, the tabu search is used to seek for the global optimal solution as the optimal estimation of the parameters. Simulations on both the discrete and continuous systems are conducted to verify the feasibility. Compared with results obtained from genetic algorithm, the performance of the tabu search is found to be better in approaching the global optima. It is also proved that the method is effective in dealing with noises.

Abstract:To identify structures and parameters of complex stochastic nonlinear systems with accuracy and efficiency, preventing premature convergence during the evolution, an improved multi-objective hierarchical fair competition (HFC) parallel genetic programming ( GP) algorithm was employed. The improved HFC GP algorithm was used to identify an object system based on nonlinear autoregressive moving average with exogenous inputs (NARMAX) model, good identification results were achieved with simultaneous identification of both structures and parameters of the object system. In comparison with single population GP and traditional multi-population GP, HFC-GP showed a more competitive performance in preventing premature convergence. It can be concluded that HFC-GP is good at solving complex stochastic nonlinear system identification problems and is superior to other existing identification methods.

Abstract:A novel identification method for linear time-varying (LTV) system based on wavelet network and genetic algorithm is proposed. First, a parameter sub-model is built using orthogonal wavelet network. Then the second-generation parameters are directly estimated from empirical data by LS algorithm. Finally, a quadratic regression equation is used to represent LTV system, and the GA and AIC are introduced to determine the structure of the parameter sub-model. Simulation results are given to illustrate that the method is effective and feasible.

Abstract:A new method based on genetic algorithm is presented for identifying the excitation system parameters. By building transfer function structure model of the generator excitation system and using the real input data as the input of model, with the minimized difference between output of the model and the real system being the object, the parameters satisfying error request can be finally obtained by adjusting the model parameter with genetic algorithm. The method solves the problem that traditional identification methods such as frequency-domain methods and time-domain methods cannot validly identify the parameters of nonlinear systems. Moreover, according to input and output data, the method identifies parameters in time domain directly and obtains parameters of each transfer function block without conversion operations. The identification results of both a simulation system in MATLAB and a real excitation system show that the new method is able to obtain the accurate parameters of the excitation system consisting nonlinear units.
