Abstract:Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) has been demonstrated as an effective method for preparing hydrochar to realize efficient utilization of biomass resources. In this study, both trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) and phosphorous acid (PA) under low temperature were used as swelling solvents to disrupt the cellulose crystalline structure within 1 h with distinct physiochemical properties. After TFA and PA swelling pretreatment, by means of hydrothermal carbonization, two varieties of swollen cellulose-derived hydrochars were produced. The results showed that the TFA and PA swelling pretreatment significantly enhanced the dehydration and deoxidation of cellulose through an HTC process. The H/C value and O/C value of swelled cellulose are lower than nonswelled by more than 4% at 220 degrees C, which demonstrates that the dehydrogenation reaction is enhanced during the hydrothermal process of swollen cellulose. Particle size as well as microscopic arrangement of hydrochars were distinctly different due to swelling cellulose. The particle size of hydrothermal carbon microspheres increases by a swelling process at the same hydrothermal carbonazition temperature. TFA-HTC have an estimate diameter of 0.2 mu m at 220 degrees C, which is equivalent to the size of CEL-HTC-280. This study illustrates the mechanism for hydrothermal carbonization of TFA and PA swollen cellulose and provides a novel route for directionally regulating hydrothermal carbon microspheres and developing carbon-based catalysts.

Abstract:Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) as a promising thermochemical process can convert organic solid wastes (e.g., biomass, plastics) into valuable products (i.e., hydrochar) at relatively low temperatures (180–250 °C) and saturated pressures (2–10 MPa). Hydrothermal conversion generally occurs via dehydration, polymerization and finally carbonization reactions. The carbon materials derived from hydrochar have high potential in various applications such as solid fuel, supercapacitor, fuel cell, and sorbent. Although the energy densification of hydrochar was increased at higher temperatures, most of the benefit was achieved at modest temperatures. Chemical structures of hydrochars include crosslinks of aromatic polymer, surface porosity, organic functional groups and ultimate components. All of these characteristics can be changed significantly by HTC, influencing the reactivity and fuel properties of hydrochars. The reaction pathways including negative and positive effects during (co)-HTC of biomass and plastic wastes are thoroughly concluded. In particular, the co-HTC of chlorinated plastic (e.g., PVC) and biomass can enhance the dechlorination and inorganics removal from hydrochar.

Abstract:Takeaway waste, which mainly consists of waste plastics and food residues, has increased dramatically and needs effective disposal nowadays. Considering the high moisture of food residues and significant density difference between food and plastic, hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) was proposed to realize the separation of plastics while upgrading food residues into hydrochar. In this study, plastic tube and cooked rice were studied as typical representatives of takeaway waste. The high heating value (HHV) of hydrochar can reach up to 26.48 MJ/kg which can be used as alternative fuel and whose combustion process was more stable compared to raw material. Due to polymer property, plastic tube only underwent a physical melt-condensation process during HTC and turned into a lump carrying hydrochar inside and outside, which could be separated at the filtration stage. By co-gasification with corn straw, the separated plastic lump can be converted into syngas, optimally with HHV of 17.40 MJ/Nm 3 and yield of 0.75 L/g feedstock . The hydrochar carried by the plastic lump enhanced its co-gasification process with corn straw, leading to a synergistic effect. The energy utilization of takeaway waste was achieved successfully employing HTC and gasification which could provide a new idea for waste disposal and fuel preparation.

Hydrothermal carbonization of typical components of municipal solid waste for deriving hydrochars and their combustion behavior

Abstract:In this work, five typical components were employed as representative pseudo-components to indirectly complete previous established simulation system during hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) of municipal solid waste. The fuel characteristics and combustion behavior of HTC-derived hydrochars were evaluated. Results clearly illustrated that the energy ranks of hydrochars were upgraded after HTC. For paper and wood, superior combustion performances of their hydrochars could achieve under suitable conditions. While for food, none positive enrichments on combustion loss rate were observed for hydrochars due to its high solubilization and decomposition under hot compressed water. It was noteworthy that a new weight loss peak was detected for paper and food, suggesting that new compounds were formed. For rubber, the HTC process made the properties of styrene butadiene rubber more close to natural rubber. Therefore, the first peak of hydrochars became significantly intense. While for plastic, only physical changes of polypropylene and polyethylene were observed.

Abstract:Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) can serve as a promising route to effectively co-valorize biomass and plastic wastes for solid fuel production. However, manure-derived hydrochar for fuel application remains a significant challenge due to its high ash content and low energy density. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), as a chlorine-containing plastic, subjected to HTC commonly results in the generation of massive acidic wastewater. Herein, we proposed a PVC-promoted HTC route for high energy–density hydrochar production. By utilizing PVC as an in situ acidic additive, the HTC condition was optimized at 275 °C, 30 min, with a PVC addition of 10 %. The hydrochar obtained under the optimized condition exhibited a higher heating value (HHV) of 25.89 MJ/kg, comparable to bituminous coals, and achieve a high energy recovery rate of nearly 70 %. Moreover, the excellent removal efficiencies of inorganic metals and chlorine both exceeding 95 % (except for Fe at 86 %) were observed, owing to the strong interactions between dechlorination and inorganic metals removal. Importantly, it was evidenced that acidic reaction environment was demonstrated to enhance the carbonization degree and modify the hydrochar formation mechanism. Furthermore, the high comprehensive combustion index S of 3.22 × 10 −7 % 2 /( °C 3 ·min 2 ) and low average Ea of 134.20 kJ/mol were achieved, indicating the favorable combustion behaviors. Overall, this work systematically and comprehensively investigated the PVC-promoted HTC of manure waste for advanced solid fuel production and examined its combustion characteristics, unveiling the hydrochar formation mechanism.

Abstract:Municipal solid waste (MSW) management poses significant challenges due to the generation of organic waste materials, including the under-sieve fraction (USF), which contains high moisture and organic content. Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) has emerged as a promising technology for converting USF into hydrochar (HC), a valuable energy-rich material with improved combustible properties. Despite the potential of HTC for waste valorization, comprehensive studies on the thermoecological cost (TEC) and environmental implications of applying HTC to USF are limited. In this study, a detailed analysis of the TEC associated with the HTC process applied to USF from MSW was conducted. The TEC assessment was conducted considering varying dilution ratios (DS/W), operational temperatures (180–220 °C), and reaction times (1–8 h) to evaluate the energy efficiency, resource utilization, and environmental impact of the HTC process. Comparative assessments were made with alternative USF treatment methods, such as bio-stabilization, landfilling, and wastewater treatment. The results indicate that the optimal conditions for minimizing TEC are a temperature of 180 °C, a reaction time of 1 h, and a dilution ratio of 0.15, achieving a TEC value of approximately 9.25 GJ per ton of USF. This represents a significant reduction compared to the conventional treatment methods, which showed a TEC of 14.9 GJ/ton of USF. This study provides a comprehensive comparison of HTC with alternative USF treatment methods, such as bio-stabilization and landfilling, highlighting HTC's superior energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. These findings offer valuable insights into the energy consumption, resource utilization, and environmental impact of HTC, emphasizing its potential for sustainable waste valorization.

Abstract:Food waste digestate (FWD) is rich in organic matter and phosphorus(P) elements, making it a potential source for energy and P recovery. Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) addresses FWD's dehydration and stability issues, improving hydrochar's fuel properties and P recovery in hydrothermal liquid. Experiments with various additives reveals 1M HCl's effectiveness, increasing P recovery by 88.31% at 120°C, decreasing hydrochar ash content by 21.42%, and raising heating value by 45.01%. Principal component analysis highlights the viability of acid treatment for P leaching and hydrochar enhancement, with pH as a crucial factor. HTC substantially reduces energy consumption by 57.42% compared to direct drying. Hydrochar without additives shows potential as slow-release P fertilizers, with a 28.8% increase in total phosphorus at 240°C, where 99.4% of P exists as apatite inorganic. Soil tests reveal differences with formic acid method in P availability, showing varying correlations with different P forms. This research offers insights for FWD resource utilization.

Abstract:Food waste digestate solids (FWDS) is the by-product of anaerobic digestion and it contains high moisture. Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) has the ability to convert wet bio-waste to hydrochar, which is a potential technology for handling FWDS. This study investigates the effect of reaction temperature and residence time on solid and liquid products from HTC process of FWDS. The solid product was named as hydrochars, and their physicochemical characters were tested and compared. The results showed that temperature had a more significant effect on hydrochar properties, compared to residence time. The higher heating value of hydrochar was 15.46 MJ/kg and the yield was 49%, under reaction conditions of 260 degrees C and 60 min. It was also found that hydrochar generated at higher temperature had a more stable combustion, higher ignition temperature, higher burnout temperature. For liquid product, the main organic matter are pyridine derivatives, pyrazine derivatives, indole derivatives, cyclopentene derivatives and phenolic compounds. It was also discovered that the increase of temperature can significantly reduce the concentrations of Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) and Total Organic Carbon (TOC) in liquid product. When reaction temperature increased from 220 degrees C to 260 degrees C, the COD decreased from 23,357 mg/L to 19,658 mg/L, TOC decreased from 9827 mg/L to 6352 mg/L, respectively. After HTC under the conditions of 260.C and 60 min, 67% of nitrogen in solid feedstock e migrated from to liquid product, and N-contained compounds decomposed into ammonia, while phosphorus was mainly remained in the solid phase (>90%), which mainly existed in the form of apatite.

Abstract:The recovery rate of plastic waste has increased over recent years, however, there are still a large amounts of waste disposed in landfills or littered in the environment. As a result, advanced thermochemical technologies, such as catalytic pyrolysis, have become a promising approach to solve plastic waste management issues. This work aims to assess inexpensive catalysts derived from waste biomass for pyrolysis of mixed plastic waste for high-value products. Conventional thermal pyrolysis at high temperatures, i.e. 800 °C only increased the gas yield (up to 52 wt% from the 32 wt% obtained at 500 °C) but had no significant effect on the proportion of individual compounds in the gas fraction. A two-stage catalytic pyrolysis of mixed plastic waste at 600 °C (first stage) combined with biochar catalyst held isothermally at 800 °C (second stage) significantly enhanced the cracking process compared to thermal pyrolysis. In presence of the biochar catalyst, the gas yield increased up to 85 wt% mainly by an increase in the yield of hydrogen (from 0.2 wt% to 3.3 wt%) and methane (from 1.4 wt% to 55 wt%). Biochar also removed all the benzoic acid in the wax fraction. Therefore, the use of biochar derived from biomass waste as a catalyst opens-up an opportunity to develop a sustainable and efficient process to valorise waste.

Abstract:Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) represents an efficient and valuable pre-treatment technology to convert waste biomass into highly dense carbonaceous materials that could be used in a wide range of applications between energy, environment, soil improvement and nutrients recovery fields. HTC converts residual organic materials into a solid high energy dense material (hydrochar) and a liquid residue where the most volatile and oxygenated compounds (mainly furans and organic acids) concentrate during reaction. Pristine hydrochar is mainly used for direct combustion, to generate heat or electricity, but highly porous carbonaceous media for energy storage or for adsorption of pollutants applications can be also obtained through a further activation stage. HTC process can be used to enhance recovery of nutrients as nitrogen and phosphorous in particular and can be used as soil conditioner, to favor plant growth and mitigate desertification of soils. The present review proposes an outlook of the several possible applications of hydrochar produced from any sort of waste biomass sources. For each of the applications proposed, the main operative parameters that mostly affect the hydrochar properties and characteristics are highlighted, in order to match the needs for the specific application.

Abstract:Renewable source-derived carbon is found to be a green alternative catalyst to zeolite for the pyrolysis of plastics. However, only polyethylene (PE) catalytic pyrolysis over biomass-derived carbon has been extensively studied. In this work, carbon was produced from industrial organic solid waste using different activation agents, and their catalytic performance on the thermal degradation of typical polymers, namely PE, polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) were investigated. The degradation mechanisms and the roles of different active sites of the carbons are discussed. Steam failed to activate the carbon, which has a low specific surface area (6.7 m2/g). Chemical activation using H3PO4 and ZnCl2 produces carbons with higher specific surface area and more porosity. The pyrolysis characteristics of LDPE, PP, PS, and PET catalyzed by the carbons were studied using TGA and a fixed-bed reactor. The thermogravimetric results indicate that all three carbons reduce the pyrolysis temperature. The analysis of the products shows that the P- and Zn-involved acid sites on the AC-HP and AC-ZN change the reaction pathway of plastics and promote: (1) C-C cracking and aromatization of polyolefins; (2) the protonation of phenyl carbon of PS to yield higher benzene, toluene, and ethylbenzene; and (3) the decarboxylation of the terephthalic acid intermediate of PET, resulting in higher CO2 and benzene. In addition, the high-value chemicals, long-chain alkylbenzenes, were found in the liquids of AC-ZN and AC-HP. The long-chain alkylbenzenes are probably formed by acid-catalyzed alkylation of aromatic hydrocarbons. This study provides basic data for the development of a cheap catalyst for plastic pyrolysis.

Abstract:AbstractSeven waste thermoplastic polymers (polypropylene, polyethylene film, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene, acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene, high-impact polystyrene and polybutadiene terephthalate, denoted as PP, PE (film), PET, PS, ABS, HIPS and PBT, respectively) and four synthetic mixtures thereof with different compositions representing commingled postconsumer plastic waste and waste of electrical and electronic equipment were studied by means of simultaneous thermogravimetry/differential scanning calorimetry coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG/DSC–FTIR) under pyrolytic conditions (inert atmosphere). By summing all the heat change contributions due to physical and/or chemical processes occurring (i.e., melting, decomposition), an overall energy, defined as the degradation heat, was determined for both single component and their mixtures. It was found to be about 4–5 % of the exploitable energy of the input material. Vapors evolved during the pyrolysis of single-component polymers and their mixtures, analyzed using the FTIR apparatus, allowed identifying the main reaction products as monomers or fragments of the polymeric chain. Results from TG/DSC runs and FTIR analysis show that there is no interaction among the plastic components of the mixtures during the occurrence of pyrolysis.

Abstract:Photothermal catalysis driven by clean solar energy efficiently converts plastic waste into high-value-added products. The catalytic process involves the transformation of solar energy to chemical energy. However, designing photothermal catalysts with a high conversion efficiency and catalytic activity remains considerably challenging. In this study, a 2 nanostructure is fabricated. It acts both as the photothermal reagent and the catalyst, displaying high photothermal conversion efficiency, catalytic activity, and stability in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) glycolysis. SiO 2 -coated c-ZIF-8 effectively reduces the thermal radiation loss of the carbon material, thus enhancing the local thermal effect of the catalytic system. Consequently, the conversion efficiency of PET achieved using photothermal catalysis is 3.4 times higher than that of thermal catalysis under the same conditions. An economic efficiency analysis proves that photothermal catalysis can save 6390000 kW·h of electricity and reduce up to 3089.59 tons of CO 2 emissions for every 10000 tons of PET recycled. Therefore, the development of clean energy-driven photothermal catalysis technology could be a potential solution for the upcycling of waste plastics. Abstract:A thermochemical conversion method known as hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is appealing, because it may convert wet biomass directly into energy and chemicals without the need for pre-drying. The hydrochar solid product’s capacity to prepare precursors of activated carbon has attracted attention. HTC has been utilized to solve practical issues and produce desired carbonaceous products on a variety of generated wastes, including municipal solid waste, algae, and sludge in addition to the typically lignocellulose biomass used as sustainable feedstock. This study aims to assess the in-depth description of hydrothermal carbonization, highlighting the most recent findings with regard to the technological mechanisms and practical advantages. The process parameters, which include temperature, water content, pH, and retention time, determine the characteristics of the final products. The right setting of parameters is crucial, since it significantly affects the characteristics of hydrothermal products and opens up a range of opportunities for their use in multiple sectors. Findings reveal that the type of precursor, retention time, and temperature at which the reaction is processed were discovered to be the main determinants of the HTC process. Lower solid products are produced at higher temperatures; the carbon concentration rises, while the hydrogen and oxygen content declines. Current knowledge gaps, fresh views, and associated recommendations were offered to fully use the HTC technique's enormous potential and to provide hydrochar with additional useful applications in the future.

The synergistic pyrolysis effects of polyethylene terephthalate with the additive of sewage sludge

Abstract:Pyrolysis could be one of the promising ways for polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste-based char production, while the adherence environmental persistent free radicals (EPFRs) brought the risks for the wide application. Co-pyrolysis was employed as the potential way to reduce the EPFRs and improve the char quality simultaneously with the introduction of sewage sludge (SS), and the optimization reaction conditions and the relative mechanisms were proposed in this work. EPFRs in PET-based char were found to decrease from 1.07 × 10 18 –4.84 × 10 18 spins·g −1 to 2.17 × 10 17 –4.90 × 10 17 spins·g −1 , with 38.86–48.55% reduction at the mass ratio of 1:1 (PET:SS). The corresponding activation energy decreased by 78.83% with 30.93% higher biochar yield rate due to the synergistic effects. Co-pyrolysis facilitated the decomposition of benzoic acid and its derivatives by enhancing the cleavage of oxygen-containing functional groups and led to the binding of nitrogen with more pyrolysis intermediates, resulting in a reduction of precursors for oxygen/oxygenated-carbon centered radicals. More phenyl radicals were polymerized into carbon-centered radicals through hydride transfer and crosslinking in the mixed system. The additive of SS promoted the aromatization degree, enhanced the defect and pore structure of the biochar, and led to a 43.62-fold increase in the surface area of PET-based char at 400 °C. This work provides a potential approach to reduce EPFRs from the pyrolysis of plastic waste and to deal with multiple waste streams in venous industry park under the implementation of zero waste cities construction.

Abstract:Hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) is an aqueous-phase procedure to prepare charred material using biomass. To obtain a charred material with high porosity, ash content, and thermal recalcitrance, it is necessary to investigate the influence of HTC conditions (peak temperature, retention time, and feedstock type) on the properties of hydrochar and its derived pyrolysis char (HDPC). Additionally, the relative importance of these conditions for the selected properties was also investigated by heterogeneity index. The results indicated that the properties of both hydrochar and HDPC samples were greatly influenced by the HTC process. The ash content and major metal elements (Na, Mg, K, and Ca) of hydrochar and HDPC samples were strongly influenced by the feedstock type; other properties, such as surface area, carbon sequestration potential, total carbon, total nitrogen, and dissolved organic carbon were moderately influenced by the feedstock type. Overall, this study provided new insights into the relative importance of different HTC conditions in the properties of hydrochar and HDPC samples, which was an important process toward obtaining a "required" charred material for environmental remediation.

Abstract:Pyrolysis is a promising technology for transforming waste plastics (WPs) into high-value products. In the near future it will play a key role in the circular economy, as a sustainable and environmentally friendly method of managing this waste. Although the literature reports on the pyrolysis of plastics, it is focused on pure polymers. On the other hand, the state-of-the-art knowledge about the pyrolysis of mixed and contaminated WPs is still scarce. Industrial waste processing usually uses polymer mixtures containing various impurities that influence the pyrolysis process during chemical WPs recycling. In the paper the pyrolysis of three types of WPs: low density polyethylene (LDPE), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyvinyl butyral (PVB) from repeated mechanical recycling of plastics, as well as their binary and ternary mixtures, is considered. The influence of particular components on the pyrolysis process is analyzed. The aim is to determine synergistic behavior of the mixtures during the pyrolysis process, which is important for increasing the efficiency and quality of the obtained bioproducts. Methods such as thermogravimetric (TG/DTG) analysis coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and mass spectroscopy (MS) are used. The variations in the initial and final temperature of pyrolysis, mass loss and mass loss rate are determined. The content of PVC significantly lowers the initial temperature and mass loss and increases the final temperature. The pyrolysis of the considered mixtures shows a noticeable synergism—in the initial stage of pyrolysis up to a temperature around 450 °C, the mass loss is accelerated compared to what is predicted by simple superposition. The inhomogeneity of the mixtures as well as the waste origin causes a significant variation in the activation energy. Three main conclusions are obtained: (i) if the waste does not contain PVC, the pyrolysis is nearly complete at a temperature around 500 °C at a heating rate of 10 °C/min, whereas PVC is not fully processed even at 995 °C; (ii) the synergistic effects affect significantly the pyrolysis process by accelerating some steps and lowering the activation energy; and (iii) the presence of PVC noticeably lowers the temperature of the first stage of PVB pyrolysis. The investigation results prove that chemical recycling of mixed LDPE, PVC and PVB waste can be an effective method of plastic waste management.

Abstract:The Chinese medicine residue (CMR) is composed of wet woody waste, including licorice and ephedra, so using hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) to recover renewable energy from the CMR is a suitable treatment method. An in-depth analysis of the physicochemical properties and structural evolution mechanism of hydrochars is helpful in fundamentally promoting the energy utilization of traditional Chinese medicine waste residue. Therefore, this study analyzed the physicochemical properties and morphological structure of hydrochar produced under varying HTC conditions using multiple testing methods. The evolution of the hydrochar's structural characteristics can be categorized into three stages: component decomposition, structural rearrangement, and carbonization. During the component decomposition and carbonization stages, numerous nanoscale micropores form within the hydrochar. These micropores' specific surface area and pore volume can reach up to 113.420 m2/g and 0.01913 cm3/g, respectively. The highest fractal dimension values for D1 and D2 are 2.6354 and 2.5565, while the maximum values for the microcrystalline stacking height (Lc) and the average number of crystalline layers (Nave) are 0.3354 and 1.9968, respectively. Consequently, the hydrochar produced during these stages exhibits a rougher pore surface and a more complex structure, making it more suitable for adsorbing heavy metals from soil and sequestering CO2. During the structural rearrangement stage, the hydrochar exhibits higher contents of fixed carbon (FC), MgO, P2O5, and a higher C/N atomic ratio, with maximum values of 38.51%, 0.99%, 1.12%, and 28.49, respectively. Thus, the hydrochar produced during this stage is more suitable for soil remediation and nutrient recovery.

Abstract:To enhance the activity for photoreforming of PET to H2, the photothermal effect of WP/W SAs couples with the "heat isolator" role of g‐C3N4 due to its low thermal conductivity, thereby forming localized high‐temperature regions and reducing the activation energy. Additionally, a strategy of alkali‐free hydrothermal pretreatment of PET is reported, achieving direct separation of ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. Photoreforming of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) to H2 is practically attractive strategy for upgrading waste plastics. The major challenge is to utilize the infrared energy in the solar spectrum to improve the efficiency for photoreforming of PET to H2. Herein, through the ingenious integration of tungsten phosphide nanoparticles and tungsten single atoms (WP/W SAs) with carbon nitride (g‐C3N4), the constructed hybrid inherits both the desirable properties and structural merits of the respective building blocks. Specifically, the photothermal effect of WP/W SAs couples with the "heat isolator" role of g‐C3N4 due to its low thermal conductivity, thereby forming localized high‐temperature regions, reducing the activation energy and improving the kinetics in the photoreforming of PET to H2. Additionally, the green pretreatment of PET using alkali‐free hydrothermal strategy is reported, achieving direct separation of the ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid. This work not only provides an alkali‐free hydrothermal pretreatment for PET, but also integrates the photothermal effect with the thermal insulation and opens a new avenue for harnessing solar energy into to convert plastics into H2.

Abstract:The huge market demand, large annual yield, wide application, and massive discard of plastics and tires have brought severe environmental issues. It is urgent to find an efficient way to recycle waste plastics and tires as high-value chemicals and energy fuels. Pyrolysis has long been considered a clean and productive technology. However, waste polymers are complex mixtures. The co-pyrolysis of the mixture is difficult but essential for energy and material recovery. This study investigated the co-pyrolysis of PE, PS, PVC, and TW using Thermogravimetric analysis, Pyrolysis-Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry, and lab scale experiments at 550°C. The results revealed significant synergistic effects between different polymers. The interaction effect was reflected by thermal behavior, product distribution, and product components. There were also differences between lab scale programmed heating pyrolysis and micro-scale fast pyrolysis. The interaction of PE/PVC and PE/TW improved olefin yield due to the synergistic effect. While aromatics formation was promoted by PS/TW and PVC/TW. It can be deduced that PE had a positive effect on chain scission reaction, while PS and PVC induced cyclization and aromatization reactions. The possible reaction pathways were proposed to get a better understanding of co-pyrolysis. Our study provided theoretical guidance for mixed polymer co-pyrolysis and product regulation.
