Abstract:Educators have recently garnered significant focus for the crucial role they play, particularly concerning their emotions. These emotions have the potential to either boost their progress in their profession or hinder their progress, like burnout which may trigger or intensify poor mental health and quit the job. Burnout arises from the intermittent occurrence of emotional distress among English as a foreign language (EFL) educators as they fulfill their professional duties. To shed more light on the issue, it is fundamental to contemplate the teacher's belief in their capabilities, known as self-efficacy, which can reduce the probability of burnout and prevent work-related stress while also promoting beneficial results. Moreover, it has been evidenced that the vital role of educators' well-being is prominent in this procedure. Therefore, the importance of these two constructs concerning the impact they have on teacher burnout was taken into consideration in this study. To achieve this objective, a group of 403 English educators participated in the measurement of the concepts being studied. To scrutinize the causal connections between the variables, a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach was employed. The study showed that teachers' efficacy in their ability to perform their job effectively was responsible for explaining 82 % of changes in burnout, while their level of well-being played a role in accounting for 42 % of changes in teachers' burnout levels. The data disclosed that while every factor independently contributed to burnout, the self-efficacy of the teachers held greater influence as a predictor of burnout in comparison to their well-being. Ultimately, particular academic suggestions are specified.

Abstract:Introduction This research aimed to explore the relationships among teacher self-efficacy, teacher resilience, emotion regulation, and teacher burnout within the context of Chinese English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers. Methods A sample of 638 Chinese EFL teachers participated in this study. They completed self-report assessments for teacher self-efficacy, teacher resilience, emotion regulation, and teacher burnout. Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to establish the construct validity of the measurement tools. Subsequently, structural equation modeling was utilized to assess the proposed structural model. Results The results of the study revealed significant insights. Teacher self-efficacy and resilience exhibited direct and negative associations with teacher burnout. Additionally, an interesting finding emerged where teacher emotion regulation indirectly affected teacher burnout, mediated by teacher resilience. The analysis supported the suitability of the partial mediation model as the best-fit representation of the relationships. Discussion The findings of this study provide valuable implications for EFL teaching programs. The negative connections between teacher self-efficacy, resilience, and burnout highlight the importance of nurturing these factors to mitigate burnout risk. The discovered mediation effect of teacher resilience emphasizes the role of emotion regulation in promoting teachers’ overall well-being. These outcomes collectively contribute to the understanding of teacher dynamics and suggest potential avenues for targeted interventions.

Abstract:Since teachers and their psychological factors have a significant share of variance in accounting for success in educational contexts, significant number of empirical studies have investigated the associations among intrapsychic variables of teachers. To further examine the inter-connections between individual teacher constructs in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts, this study explored the role of emotion regulation and teacher self-efficacy in predicting teacher burnout in the Chinese EFL context. In so doing, a sample of 174 EFL teachers completed a survey containing the three valid scales measuring these constructs. Structural Equation Modeling was employed to examine the structural model of the variables under investigation. The findings revealed that teacher self-efficacy accounted for 20% of the variance in burnout, whereas emotion regulation represented 11.2% of the teacher burnout variance. Overall, it was revealed that although both variables exerted a significant unique contribution to teacher burnout, teacher self-efficacy seemed to be a stronger predictor of burnout than emotion regulation of teachers. The results might have remarkable implications for EFL teacher development programs.

Abstract:This study represents an investigation into the interplay of the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher burnout and such teacher-related variables as emotional intelligence, personality traits, teaching experience, self-efficacy, school type, gender, academic degree and age. This is a research report of a study on 124 secondary school EFL teachers with BA, MA, and PHD academic degrees. Findings of correlation and sequential multiple regression analyses suggest that EFL teacher burnout is likely to result from several factors with emotional intelligence being by far the strongest predictor of them. It was also found that emotional intelligence and self-efficacy have a negative moderate correlation with teacher burnout. Strong correlations were also found between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy, age and self-efficacy, and age and experience. No significant relationship was found between burnout and age, experience or personality. Some critical points are raised for the education system in Iran and practical implications are suggested.

Abstract:Buoyant and high self-efficacious teachers seem to be unlikely to feel burned out. Accordingly, examining the relationship between teachers' buoyancy and self-efficacy seems significant. Even though the correlation between self-efficacy and burnout has been studied, precise attention should be paid to the quantitative investigations of the relationship between teachers' academic buoyancy, self-efficacy, and burnout in China, English as a Foreign Language(EFL) context. To address this gap, the present study aimed to assess the relationship between Chinese EFL teachers' academic buoyancy, self-efficacy, and burnout. In doing so, 399 Chinese EFL teachers (354 females and 45 males) were selected from 11 provinces and 18 cities in China. Three related questionnaires were virtually distributed among participants to gather data. The correlational tests revealed significant negative associations between Chinese EFL teachers' burnout, self-efficacy, and academic buoyancy. The outcomes of multiple regression analyses also indicated that teachers' burnout was negatively predicted by their self-efficacy and academic buoyancy. Finally, The implications of the results are discussed.

Abstract:Teachers have come under significant scrutiny due to their pivotal role in educational context and lately, the study of emotion-connected aspects in teachers' education domain has got much attention and experts in this domain proved that emotion is at the center of teaching subjects. Also as teaching is an emotionally challenging occupation, it often results in high levels of stress and consequently burnout which has become a prominent concern in mainstream education in recent years. As the main issue of education, teachers' emotions should be taken into account as their positive emotions and their regulation have been highlighted in the literature. Therefore, the study underscores the critical significance of Chinese English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers' well-being and emotion regulation and their relations to burnout. To fulfill the research objectives, 398 English teachers participated in the assessment of the studied concepts. The findings, analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), reveal that both variables significantly contribute to the reduction of job burnout in teachers. This study discusses key findings, implications, and limitations while also offering suggestions for future research directions.

Abstract:Factors influencing teachers’ level of burnout have been studied by different researchers, however very few focused on the relationship among three subscales of: burnout, social comparison tendencies (upward and downward), and teachers’ instructional self-efficacy. Hypothesizing that a knowledge of the relationship between these factors may promote teachers’ mental and emotional state, and hence improve their performance in classrooms, this study explored the possible relationships between the above mentioned variables. To this end, a sample of 279 Iranian teachers (209 female, 70 male) from across the country agreed to act as the participants of this study, and provide the answers to a 46-item scale (BSCSE) which addressed their degrees of burnout, social comparison tendencies (upward and downward), and instructional self-efficacy. The analyses of the data based on the Spearman Rank Order Correlation tests indicated that there were a positive significant relationship between downward comparison and the first two subscales of burnout: exhaustion and depersonalization. In addition, teachers’ upward comparison tendency showed a positive effect on teachers’ sense of instructional self-efficacy. The findings of this study provide useful information for the EFL teachers and teacher supervisors who seek specific pedagogies that decrease the level of burnout in the educational context.

Abstract:With the increasing rate of academic burnout among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students, a plethora of research has been undertaken to determine the predictors of this phenomenon. Nonetheless, the predicting role of academic self-efficacy and academic motivation has been less attended to by researchers and practitioners. To address this gap, this research evaluated the determining functions of academic self-efficacy and academic motivation in Chinese EFL students’ academic burnout. To accomplish this, 580 Chinese EFL learners were recruited from different universities in Henan province. Then, to gather essential data, participants received three reliable scales designed to assess students’ academic self-efficacy, academic motivation, and academic burnout. Following that, in order to analyze participants’ answers, correlation tests, structural equation modeling, and regression analysis were implemented. The correlation tests revealed close connections among academic motivation, academic self-efficacy, and academic burnout. The outcomes of structural equation modeling and regression analysis also indicated that both learning motivation and academic self-efficacy were strong, negative predictors of Chinese EFL students’ academic burnout. The outcomes of the current research would contribute to the existing body of knowledge by offering new and profound insights into the interplay between English students’ academic resources and their academic burnout. The outcomes would also be of great help to English teachers in reducing the rate of academic burnout. In light of the limitations of the present research, some valuable suggestions are offered for future investigations.

Abstract:Given the role of stress and self-efficacy on educators in the process of language learning and teaching, it is postulated that further elements such as teachers’ emotional exhaustion and work engagement had a remarkable role in the educational process both for teachers and learners; however, the predictor role of self-efficacy and stress remains uninvestigated and much ambiguity still exists about the relation between. A total of 295 male and female Chinese EFL teachers who were teaching English in 21 provinces kindly accepted to attend this study. They were asked to fill out four questionnaires, including the teacher self-efficacy scale, work engagement scale, teacher stress scale, and teachers’ emotional exhaustion scale. For the first question of the study, Pearson coefficient of correlation was used while for the second one, a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was run. The results of the study demonstrated a positive relationship between teachers’ work engagement and self-efficacy, while a negative correlation exists between overall work engagement and stress, emotional exhaustion and work engagement, and emotional exhaustion and work engagement. Moreover, there is no significant correlation between self-efficacy and stress. The findings of the study also signified that both self-efficacy and stress meaningfully predict students’ emotional exhaustion and work engagement. In conclusion, some implications and suggestions have been presented for language teaching stakeholders in language learning situations.

Abstract:Abstract. In the Netherlands timolol maleate, probably the drug of first choice in antiglaucoma therapy, is often combined with other intraocular pressure lowering drugs. The efficacy of most combinations have been discussed in the literature several times, except the one with aceclidine, a parasympathic drug, that has a reasonable popularity in Western Europe. Unlike pilocarpine, aceclidine does not seem to give a clinically significant additional pressure lowering effect in timolol pre‐treated eyes. The decrease in IOP in aceclidine pre‐treated eyes after single dose timolol seems to be an effect of timolol alone. Our results suggest that co‐administration of timolol and aceclidine is not a rational action in antiglaucomatous therapy.

Abstract:Teachers’ emotional intelligence (EI) and emotion regulation (ER), as protective factors against stressful situations, play active roles in promoting teachers’ well-being and sense of teaching self-efficacy. However, few studies have touched on the linkage between these two variables, which, to some extent, has hindered the in-depth exploration of their functions in teachers’ professional development. To address this gap, the current study examined the EI and ER of 474 junior high school English as foreign language (EFL) teachers in China via a questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. With the aid of SPSS 26.0, the data collected through the questionnaire were coded, computed, and analysed. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used to report the levels of EFL teachers’ EI and ER and the correlation between them. The semi-structured interviews were recorded and transcribed, and the data were subsequently analysed. The results indicate a positive correlation between EFL teachers’ EI and ER. The detailed statistics display that all dimensions of EI were positively and significantly correlated with all dimensions of ER. The results further explain the relationship between teachers’ EI and ER in an EFL context. Practical implications are put forward concerning the development of EI and ER competencies.
The relationship between trait emotional intelligence and English language performance among Chinese EFL university students: The mediating roles of boredom and burnout

Abstract:With the wave of positive psychology in second language acquisition, more emotion factors are gaining scholarly attention. Despite extensive research on Trait Emotional Intelligence (TEI), burnout and boredom in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) studies, the interplay of these variables remains unknown and the related impact on EFL learner's English Language Performance (ELP) is still underexplored. Given this, in light of Control-Value Theory (CVT), the present study used a quantitative method to examine the mediating roles of boredom and burnout in the connection between TEI and ELP among Chinese university students engaged in EFL endeavor. Data were collected from 489 second-year EFL students. Structural equation modeling was utilized to analyze the relationships. Results revealed that TEI significantly influences ELP among Chinese EFL university students, through its correlation with both boredom and burnout. Higher levels of TEI are associated with reduced experiences of these negative states, which in turn are linked to improved language performance. These may imply that teacher educators should integrate emotional intelligence training into curricula and professional development to improve students' effectiveness and learning outcome.

Abstract:Teacher-related variables have been considered as determining factors in shaping educational system. Teacher professional identity is also very important construct that affect teachers’ teaching practice Moreover, the positive and negative emotions are considered sporadically in Chinese English as a Foreign Language (EFL) educational contexts; however, and there is a paucity of research in investigating the relationship between work engagement as a positive emotion and teacher burnout as a negative workrelated factor. This review also tried to examine how teachers’ professional identity is affected by teachers’ positive and negative emotions in Chinese contexts. Earlier studies have verified that teacher burnout is significantly correlated with professional identity. The earlier investigations showed the mediating role of job resources, such as job satisfaction and obligation, in the correlation between teacher burnout and professional identity. Moreover, studies have shown a significant negative correlation between teacher burnout and work engagement. Some variables, including personal features, instructive environment, work difficulties, job capital, character strengths, self-efficacy, close relationship with school colleagues, and emotional intelligence, mediate the correlation between teacher burnout and work engagement. Finally, this review specified that teachers’ professional identity is regarded as a critical variable in fostering work engagement. Emotional intelligence was also considered a mediating variable that affected the relationship between teacher professional identity and work engagement. Moreover, the study has pedagogical implications and suggestions for different teacher educators, administrators, and advisors. The ideas can improve their awareness of teacher burnout, professional identity, and work engagement in instructive contexts.

Abstract:Teachers’ emotions are explicitly and conceptually presented as part of an educational system that affects and is affected by learner upshots, namely, learners’ self-emotions, behaviors, and cognition since educators and learners are involved in the outcomes of the school setting. English as a foreign language (EFL) educators recurrently experience emotional damages during involvement in their profession as burnout, stress, boredom, and anxiety. EFL teachers need to regulate their emotions when facing a multivariate class environment that provides each learner with undeniable uniqueness. The subject of the relationship between emotion regulation and the teacher’s emotions is receiving increasing attention in research. EFL teachers should be provided with an emotional regulation strategy to have a positive learning-instructing effect in the entire school community as fun learning activities, energetic students, enthusiastic educators, and strong relationships between the board of education. To focus on the role of teachers’ emotion on the one hand and the mediator role of emotional regulation, on the other hand, the current study endeavored to review the role of emotional regulation strategies more intensely to decrease negative emotions. Finally, some educational suggestions of the study regarding the educators’ behaviors are pinpointed.
