Abstract:Objective: Dysmenorrhea is the pain related to menstruation; to screen for the symptoms, a working ability, location, intensity of days of pain, and dysmenorrhea (WaLIDD) score was created. The purpose of this work was to culturally adapt and assess the measurement properties of the WaLIDD score for dysmenorrhea in Brazilian women. Methods: In this cross-sectional online study, we evaluated women with and without dysmenorrhea. Criterion validity and construct validity were assessed, respectively, by the Receiver Operator Characteristic (ROC) curve and correlations with the bodily pain and social functioning domains of medical outcomes study 36-item short-form health survey (SF-36), self-report of absenteeism and Stanford Presenteeism Scale for presenteeism. Test-retest reliability and measurement errors were assessed, respectively, by intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland and Altman Graph. Results: 430 women completed the test, 238 (55.4%) women had dysmenorrhea, and 199 (46.3%) answered the questionnaire twice for the retest. The cutoff points ≥4, ≥5, and ≥5 could discriminate between women with and without dysmenorrhea, absenteeism, and presenteeism related to dysmenorrhea, respectively. Correlations between SF-36 - pain and social functioning domains and WaLIDD score were weak to strong and negative. For WaLIDD total Score, ICC was 0.95 and the limits of agreement were -1.54 and 1.62. Conclusion: WaLIDD score is a short, valid and reliable instrument to screen and predict dysmenorrhea and could predict absenteeism and presenteeism related to dysmenorrhea in Brazilian women.

Abstract:Introduction . The wide variety of symptoms in patients with cardiac arrhythmias can affect daily living activities. The evaluation of symptoms with patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), with validated instruments, can provide information that contributes to clinical decisions and treatment. In Brazil, however, there is no available scale that evaluates symptoms in different types of arrhythmias. Purpose . This study aimed to translate the Arrhythmia-Specific Questionnaire in Tachycardia and Arrhythmia symptom scale (ASTA-symptom scale) and then validate the questionnaire in terms of Brazilian culture. Method . The methodological process of cultural adaptation used was based on international literature guidelines consisting of forward translation, synthesis, back translation, review by an expert committee, and pretest. Psychometric analyses were conducted with 140 patients. These included measuring internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha), construct validity with item-total correlations, and convergent construct validity with correlations with the quality of life questionnaire for patients with atrial fibrillation-version 2 (QVFA-v2). Usability and understandability were evaluated through the usability evaluation of instruments. Results . The translation and adaptation processes were performed by obtaining the Brazilian Portuguese version of the original Swedish instrument. This version presented the internal consistency of items, evaluated through Cronbach’s α (0.79). Construct validity was demonstrated by item-total correlations for the nine items, all except one reached the level of >0.30 (0.24). Convergent validity showed a high correlation with QVFA-v2 (0.89). As for the evaluation of usability and understanding, after two small suggested changes, no additional alterations were necessary. Conclusion . The psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of ASTA-symptom scale evaluated in this study were satisfactory, and the scale was proved to be a valid and reliable tool to assess the symptom burden in patients with different forms of tachyarrhythmia. The ASTA-Br-symptom scale questionnaire can be an important addition to PROMs for patients with arrhythmias and could help healthcare professionals in decision-making.

Measurement properties of patient‐reported outcome measures for women with dysmenorrhea: A systematic review

Abstract:Background Dysmenorrhea, or menstrual pain, is a subjective experience, and can only be assessed by patient‐reported outcomes. These instruments should be reliable, valid and responsive. Aim To identify and critically appraise the available evidence for the measurement properties of specific patient‐reported outcome measures used for dysmenorrhea. Methods The PRISMA statement was used to report this systematic review. Databases searched were PubMed, SCOPUS, CINAHL, Web of Science, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar (April 2021; updated on February 2023). Original studies with primary data collection, with no restriction on language and publication date that reported psychometric properties of one or more dysmenorrhea‐related patient‐reported outcome measure. The literature searches, selection of studies, data extraction and assessment of the risk of bias were performed independently by two reviewers and followed the COSMIN guidelines. Results Thirty studies were analysed in this review, and 19 patient‐reported outcome measures were evaluated. The instruments varied in relation to the measured construct and measurement properties (validity, reliability and responsiveness). The methodological quality of the studies and the quality of evidence of the patient‐reported outcome measures were variable. Among the 13 studies that reported the development of patient‐reported outcome measures, most had inadequate methodological quality, and the overall rating was insufficient or inconsistent. Conclusions The Dysmenorrhea Symptom Interference (DSI) scale was the only identified patient‐reported outcome measure that has the potential to be recommended because of its sufficient rating combined with moderate quality of evidence for content validity. Future studies should further evaluate the measurement properties of the existing patient‐reported outcome measures, or develop new patient‐reported outcome measures following the COSMIN methodology. Translation, Transcultural Adaptation, and Validation of the Empathy, Spirituality, and Wellness in Medicine Scale to the Brazilian Portuguese Language

Abstract:Construct: The Empathy, Spirituality, and Wellness in Medicine Scale (ESWIM) is a 43-item multidimensional scale developed to investigate different dimensions of physicians and medical students. Background: Medical education research requires the use of several different instruments with dozens of items that evaluate each construct separately, making their application slow and increasing the likelihood of students providing a large number of incomplete or missing responses. To provide an alternative measure, this study aims to translate, adapt, and validate the multidimensional ESWIM instrument for Brazilian medical students. This is a very promising instrument because it is multidimensional, relatively short, and cost free; it evaluates important constructs; and it has been explicitly designed for use in the medical context. Approach: The English-language instrument was translated and adapted into the Brazilian Portuguese language using standard procedures: translation, transcultural adaptation, and back-translation. ESWIM was administered to students in all years of the medical curriculum. A retest was given 45 days later to evaluate reliability. To assess validity, the questionnaire also included sociodemographic data, the Duke Religion Index, the Empathy Inventory, the brief version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life (WHOQOL-Bref), and the Oldenburg Burnout Inventory. Results: A total of 776 medical students (M age = 22.34 years, SD = 3.11) were assessed. The Brazilian Portuguese version of ESWIM showed good internal consistency for the factor of Empathy (α = 0.79-0.81) and borderline internal consistency for the other factors: Openness to Spirituality (α = 0.61-0.66), Wellness (α = 0.57-0.68), and Tolerance (α = 0.56-0.65). The principal component analysis revealed a four-factor structure; however, the confirmatory factor analysis showed a better fit for a three-factor structure. We found a significant positive correlation between ESWIM empathy and empathy measured by the Empathy Inventory (r = .444, p < .01), as well as negative correlations between ESWIM empathy and burnout (r = -.145 to -.224, p < .01). ESWIM openness to spirituality was also significantly correlated with different subscales of religiosity (r = .301-.417, p < .01), and ESWIM wellness was significantly correlated with the WHOQOL-Bref factors (r = .390-.673, p < .01). The test-retest reliability (applied to 83 students) was high for all factors except Tolerance. Conclusion: This study provides supportive evidence regarding the reliability and validity of ESWIM empathy scores. The ESWIM scale opens a new field of research in relation to openness to spirituality by introducing a scale that measures this openness attitude. Despite borderline internal consistency, ESWIM wellness was strongly associated with quality of life and had good test-retest reliability. Thus, ESWIM appears to be a valid option for evaluating these constructs in medical students.
Validation and cultural translation for the Brazilian Portuguese version of the Estro-Androgenic- Symptom Questionnaire in Women

Abstract:Objective: This study aimed to translate and validate the Estro-Androgenic-Symptom Questionnaire in Women (EASQ-W) into Brazilian Portuguese language, as we hypothesized that this tool would be consistent for addressing the specific context of hormonal symptoms in menopause. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a total of 119 women with Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) and 119 climacteric women without GSM were included. The EASQ-W was translated, and its psychometric properties were rigorously examined. Participants completed questionnaires covering sociodemographic details, the EASQ-W, and the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). A subgroup of 173 women was re-invited after 4 weeks for test-retest analysis of the EASQ-W. Additionally, the responsiveness of the questionnaire was evaluated in 30 women who underwent oral hormonal treatment. Results: The internal consistency of the EASQ-W was found to be satisfactory in both GSM and control groups (Cronbach's alpha ≥ 0.70). Notably, a floor effect was observed in both groups; however, a ceiling effect was only evident in the sexual domain of the GSM group. Construct validity was established by comparing the EASQ-W with the MRS, yielding statistically significant correlations (0.33831-0.64580, p < 0.001). The test-retest reliability over a 4-week period was demonstrated to be satisfactory in both the GSM and control groups (ICC 0.787-0.977). Furthermore, the EASQ-W exhibited appropriate responsiveness to oral hormonal treatment (p < 0.001). Conclusion: This study successfully translated and validated the Estro-Androgenic-Symptom Questionnaire in Women (EASQ-W) into Brazilian Portuguese, with satisfactory internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity.

Abstract:Primary dysmenorrhea, or cramps, causes pain, limits activity, and increases emotional tension in young women, but its measurement has not received enough research attention. We have developed a functional and emotional measure of dysmenorrhea (FEMD, 14 items), and trialed it with a sample of 833 Chinese university women. Two factors (scales) were extracted by principal component analysis (PCA) and subsequently approved by a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The two scales were intercorrelated and were correlated with experienced pain severity and, to a lesser degree, with the depressive tendency. We have demonstrated that FEMD has stable components that might help measure dysmenorrhea-related dysfunctions.
Cross-Cultural Adaptation and Measurement Properties Analysis of the Brazilian Portuguese Version of the ICIQ-VS

Abstract:Introduction and hypothesis: The high prevalence of pelvic floor disorders in women requires assessments using validated instruments. We aimed to translate, cross-culturally adapt to Brazilian Portuguese, and analyze the measurement properties of the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Vaginal Symptoms Module (ICIQ-VS-Br). Methods: Participants were Brazilian women older than 18 years presenting vulvovaginal symptoms according to the Vulvovaginal Symptoms Questionnaire (VSQ-Br). The development of the ICIQ-VS-Br included the steps of translation, synthesis, back-translation, expert meeting, and pre-test. We analyzed construct validity by correlating the ICIQ-VS-Br and VSQ-Br. The participants answered the ICIQ-VS-Br the second time 7 to 10 days after the first response. We measured test-retest reliability using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), internal consistency using Cronbach's alpha, and construct validity using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The study included 313 women. Reproducibility was analyzed for the three subscales of the ICIQ-VS-Br, resulting in an ICC of 0.92 (95% CI 0.89 to 0.94) for "vaginal symptoms," 0.85 (95% CI 0.78 to 0.89) for "sexual matters," and 0.87 (95% CI 0.81 to 0.91) for "quality of life." Construct validity showed a moderate correlation between ICIQ-VS-Br and VSQ-Br, confirming our hypotheses. Conclusions: The ICIQ-VS-Br demonstrated validity and reproducibility, indicating that the instrument can be used in scientific research and clinical practice.

Abstract:Background Dysmenorrhea is the most common gynecological condition reported by women, and 33% to 50% of them report moderate to severe symptoms. It is defined by menstrual pain in the pelvic region and lower abdomen that can be associated or not to other secondary gynecological conditions (e.g., endometriosis, myoma, adenomyosis). The symptoms are frequently associated with others and can affect women's quality of life and functioning, such as missing school/university/work, decreased sleep quality and fatigue. Those symptoms can be intensified by emotional stress, lower social support and lower socioeconomic conditions. Given the great interference of dysmenorrhea in various spheres of life, a comprehensive evaluation of disability and functioning is necessary for this population. Objectives To analyze functioning and the affected domains in women with dysmenorrhea. Methods Cross-sectional and online study conducted between 2022 and 2023 with 2,609 Brazilian adult women with dysmenorrhea (27.7 ± 7.4 years old). Pregnant women, with 6 months of puerperium and transgender were excluded. The translated and validated Brazilian Portuguese version of WHODAS-12 for women with dysmenorrhea was used. The WHODAS-12 is an instrument with 12 items developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to briefly assess health and disability and provide the level of general functioning of the following domains: life activities, mobility, cognition, social participation, self-care, and interpersonal relationships. All the items and domains are directly linked to International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). The maximum score of each domain is 10 points and the higher the score, the greater the disability. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented as the mean and standard deviation in SPSS 22. Results The average of life activities domain was 4.7 ± 1.8 points, the mobility domain had 4.5 ± 2 points, the cognition domain had 4.4 ± 1.8 points, social participation had 4.8 ± 2 points, self-care had 2.6 ± 1.2 points, and interpersonal relationships had 4 ± 1.9 points. Interpersonal relationships and life activities were the most affected domains in women with dysmenorrhea. Conclusion In addition to pain intensity, the WHODAS-12 provided a screening of other domains of functionality that may be affected in women with dysmenorrhea, such as social participation and activities of daily living. Implications From the use of the WHODAS-12, it is possible to evaluate important aspects that are relevant beyond the intensity of pain in women with dysmenorrhea. Thus, clinicians can use WHODAS-12 as a specific and individualized therapeutic goal by approaching the woman from an integrality perspective. In addition, it is also possible to have a broader view of the impact of dysmenorrhea on the quality of life and functioning of Brazilian women.

Abstract:AbstractMen and women seem to have different susceptibilities to disease and dissimilar responses to pain. These differences are not well understood. Understanding those variations between men and women from the perspective of gender identity can contribute to disparities observed in the health field. Since 1980, efforts have been made to develop instruments that can help to categorize individuals according to their own gender perception. One of these, recently developed, is the Traditional Masculinity and Femininity Scale (TMFs). The advantage of this scale is to allow the gender self-identification without the need for attributes. The aim of this study is to present the process of cross cultural adaptation of the TMFs for applicability in studies in the Brazilian population. The cross-cultural adaptation followed the steps: 1) authorization by the authors; 2) initial translation into Portuguese; 3) cultural, conceptual, experimental and idiomatic adaptation to the target population; 4) retroversion; 5) assessment by a revision committee; and 6) pretest. The equivalence of measurement, corresponding to the psychometric properties to a gold standard, is in progress. In conclusion, the original version of the TMF scale, having been translated, culturally adapted, and validated into Brazilian Portuguese has proven to be a reliable instrument that is easy to use, and can be used in both clinical practice and clinical trials in the evaluation of gender identity.Keywords: Gender Identity. Essas disparidades não são bem compreendidas. A compreensão dessas variações entre homens e mulheres na perspectiva da identidade de gênero pode contribuir para as disparidades observadas no campo da saúde. Desde a década de 1980, esforços têm sido feitos para desenvolver instrumentos que possam ajudar a categorizar os indivíduos de acordo com sua própria percepção de gênero. Uma delas, recentemente desenvolvida, é a Escala de Masculinidade e Feminilidade Tradicionais (TMFs). A vantagem desta escala é permitir a auto identificação do gênero sem a necessidade de atributos. O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar o processo de adaptação transcultural dos TMFs para aplicabilidade em estudos na população brasileira. A adaptação transcultural seguiu os passos: 1) autorização dos autores; 2) tradução inicial para o português; 3) adaptação cultural, conceitual, experimental e idiomática à população-alvo; 4) retroversão; 5) avaliação por um comitê de revisão; e 6) pré-teste. A equivalência de medida, correspondente às propriedades psicométricas de um padrão ouro, está em andamento. Em conclusão, a versão original da escala TMF, traduzida, adaptada culturalmente e validada para o português brasileiro, mostrou-se um instrumento confiável e de fácil utilização, podendo ser utilizada tanto na prática clínica quanto nas pesquisas para a avaliação da identidade de gênero.Palavras-chave: Identidade de Gênero. Validation and cultural translation for Brazilian Portuguese version of the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7) and Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20)

Abstract:Introduction and hypothesisPelvic floor disorders [urinary (UI) and/or fecal C (FI) incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse (POP)] may have a significant impact in womens’ quality of life (QoL). The Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7) and Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) help assess these disorders; however, we do not have them culturally translated in the Brazilian Portuguese language.MethodsA cross-sectional study was performed of 185 women with pelvic floor disorders (PFD group) and 65 healthy patients (control group). A translated, pilot-tested, Brazilian Portuguese version were given to these women. Internal consistency, construct validity, and floor/ceiling effect were assessed. Test–retest was performed in 79 patients after 4 weeks, and responsiveness was assessed in 42 patients after surgical treatment.ResultsInternal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha) was adequate between PFD and control groups on the PFDI-20 (0.816-0.844) and PFIQ-7 (0.823-0.846). Test–retest reliability was also adequate [intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) 0.803-0.843]. Subscales [Pelvic Organ Prolapse Impact Questionnaire (POPIQ-7) and Colorectal–Anal Impact Questionnaire (CRAIQ-7) from the PFIQ-7 demonstrated floor effect (42.70, 60, and 18.38 %, respectively) in the PFD group, with no influence at total score. No ceiling effect was observed. Construct validity was adequate at all correlations between clinical symptoms and subscales in both questionnaires in both groups. Responsiveness was demonstrated by a statistically significant reduction in scale/subscale scores from PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 after surgical treatment.ConclusionThe PFDI-20 and PFIQ-7 presented adequate cultural translation and are reliable and valid in the Brazilian Portuguese language.

The Portuguese 35-item Survey of Pain Attitudes applied to Portuguese women with Endometriosis

Abstract:Background and aims Endometriosis is a gynecologic recurring persistent condition affecting from 8% to 15% of premenopausal women worldwide. About 80% of women with endometriosis have at least one form of chronic pain - a multidimensional experience influenced by a number of psychosocial factors, including pain-related beliefs. The Survey of Pain Attitudes is the most commonly used measure of pain-related beliefs. This study aims to evaluate the psychometric properties of a Portuguese version of a brief version of the SOPA (the SOPA-35) in a sample of Portuguese women with Endometriosis. Methods A sample of 199 Portuguese women with Endometriosis provided demographic and pain history information, and completed a Portuguese version of the SOPA-35 and measures of pain intensity, disability, and psychological function. Analyses were performed to evaluate the factor structure of the Portuguese SOPA-35 items as well as the internal consistency, composite reliability, convergent validity, and concurrent validity of the scale scores. Results Confirmatory factor analysis supported a six-factor solution for a 19-item version of the Portuguese version of the Survey of Pain Attitudes (SOPA-19-P). The six scales evidenced marginal to good reliability (Cronbach's alphas: between 0.60 and 0.84; composite reliability: between 0.61 and 0.84). Four scales evidenced acceptable to good convergent validity (AVE: between 0.51 and 0.63). The findings also supported the concurrent validity of the SOPA-19-P. Conclusions The results support the use of the Portuguese SOPA-19-P for research and clinical purposes with Portuguese women in chronic pain due to endometriosis. Future research is warranted to further develop a European Portuguese version of SOPA. Implications The findings provide psychometric information about the SOPA-19-P. The results are helpful to researchers wishing to study the role of pain-related beliefs and their association with adjustment and treatment outcomes in women with chronic pain due to endometriosis.
Transcultural adaptation of the Thirst Distress Scale (TDS) into Brazilian Portuguese and an analysis of the psychometric properties of the scale for patients on hemodialysis

Abstract:Objective: To produce a transcultural adaptation of the Thirst Distress Scale (TDS) into Brazilian Portuguese and analyze the scale's psychometric properties for patients on hemodialysis (HD). Methods: The original scale was translated, back translated, and discussed with psychometric assessment experts. The final version was tested with 126 patients on HD and retested with 70 individuals from the original patient population. Cronbach's alpha was used to measure the scale's internal consistency. Reliability of thirst intensity evaluated via the visual analogue scale (VAS) was tested with Kappa statistic and the Bland-Altman plot. Reproducibility was assessed based on the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC). Results: The wording of three items and the verb tenses of six had to be adjusted in the final version of the Brazilian Portuguese TDS. Comprehension of the scale by patients on HD was good, the scale's internal consistency was satisfactory (0.84; p<0.001), agreement with a visual analogue scale (VAS) was moderate (kappa=0.44; p<0.001), and reproducibility neared perfection (ICC=0.87; p<0.001). Conclusion: Our results showed that the Brazilian Portuguese version of the scale might be used reliably. The Brazilian Portuguese version of the TDS is a practical, affordable, accessible and well-accepted tool that has a lot to offer for the management of patients with HD.

Abstract:Abstract Background To translate and cross-culturally adapt into Brazilian-Portuguese, and to test the measurement properties of the following items of implementation outcome measures: Acceptability of Intervention Measure (AIM), Intervention Appropriateness Measure (IAM) and Feasibility of Intervention Measure (FIM). Methods This was a measurement properties study in accordance with the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health status Measurement Instruments (COSMIN). We conducted a translation and cross-cultural adaptation of three implementation measures according to guidelines for translation and cross-cultural adaptation, then we collected information from patients who had participated in remotely delivered physical therapy treatment for musculoskeletal condition. The patients answered the translated versions of the implementation outcome measures. The measurement properties of the three implementation outcome measures were collected in a test–retest assessment, with an interval of 7 to 14 days.. The measurement properties evaluated in this study were interpretability, measured using Ceiling and Floor Effects, reliability in test–retest evaluation, measured using Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient, internal consistency, measured using Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and construct validity, measured using Pearson Correlation. Results We included 104 participants (76 female). The average age of the sample was 56.8 (SD 14.8) years old. The items of implementation outcome measures (AIM, IAM, and FIM) showed 66.39%, 63.11%, and 63.93% of ceiling effects. The items of implementation outcome measures showed adequate internal consistency measured using Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient (AIM: 0.89, IAM: 0.91, FIM: 0.93) and values of Standard Error of Measurement between 5 and 10%, showing good measurement error. The results of AIM and IAM was classified as moderate reliability and the FIM as substantial reliability. In a total 96 correlations, > 75% of correlations met our prior hypothesis. Conclusion The three Brazilian-Portuguese versions of items of implementation outcome measures had adequate internal consistency, measurement error and construct validity. The three implementation outcome measures showed moderate to substantial reliability values. The Ceiling Effect was observed in the three measures, showing maximum values in more than 15% of the evaluations.
Cell surface alpha-D-galactopyranosyl end groups: use as markers in the isolation of murine tumor cell lines with different cancer-causing potentials.

Abstract:Cell lines from 2 3-methylcholanthrene-induced murine tumors were established in culture and examined for reactivity with Griffonia simplicifolia isolectin B4 (GS I-B4), a lectin that has strict specificity for terminal alpha-D-galactopyranosyl residues. Virtually all of the cells in both populations were strongly reactive, indicating the presence of this carbohydrate on the cell surface. Both tumor lines were exposed to human serum with antibodies to the blood group B antigen. More than 99.99% of the exposed cells were killed by this treatment. This is not surprising, because terminal alpha-D-galactopyranosyl residues comprise the blood group B antigen. From the few surviving cells, it was possible to establish cell lines resistant to the cytotoxic effects of the anti-blood group B antibodies. A total of 4 cell lines were independently obtained in this way. The human serum-resistant lines showed no detectable reactivity with GS I-B4, indicating that alpha-D-galactopyranosyl-deficient cell lines had been obtained. The parent and variant cells were compared for reactivity with anti-laminin antibodies. Both parent lines showed strong reactivity by immunofluorescence in the viable state, whereas the alpha-D-galactopyranosyl-deficient lines showed no reactivity. The parent and variant lines were also compared with regard to in vitro and in vivo growth. The alpha-D-galactopyranosyl-deficient lines had reduced in vitro growth capacity relative to the parent lines. More importantly, in contrast to the parent lines, these lines were significantly less tumorigenic than the parent lines when injected into syngeneic mice and did not metastasize spontaneously.

Abstract:Introduction Interpersonal violence is a global concern with significant implications for mental health and mortality. The Karolinska Institute in Sweden developed the Karolinska Interpersonal Violence Scale (KIVS), a semi-structured interview assessing interpersonal violence experiences as victims or aggressors across childhood and adulthood. Objective Our aim was to translate and culturally adapt the KIVS for use in the Brazilian population. Methods: The translation process involved ten stages based on The International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) guidelines. Back-translation was performed by a clinical psychologist unfamiliar with the original scale. The English versions were cross compared by the original instrument author. The consensus version underwent comprehension evaluation by eight participants, comprising four healthcare professionals and four patients from the AISEP - Excessive Sexual Drive and Prevention of Negative Outcomes Related with Sexual Behavior at Instituto de Psiquiatria of Hospital das Clínicas of São Paulo. A 5-point Likert scale assessed participant comprehension, with 80% agreement indicating successful equivalence. Sentences were revised until this consensus was achieved. The finalized translation, incorporating contextual revisions, underwent syntactic and spelling review. Results After application to eight participants (4 women and 4 men), 7 rated with the highest comprehension score (5.0), and 1 with 4.9. A final report documented the entire KIVS translation and validation process. Conclusion The translation and cultural adaptation of the KIVS into Brazilian Portuguese were successful. Minor adjustments were made to enhance comprehension without compromising meaning. This adaptation provides a valuable tool for assessing interpersonal violence in the Brazilian context, with implications for research and clinical practice. Financing FAPESP.

Abstract:BACKGROUND: Considering the ability of the health and self-management in diabetes questionnaire (HASMID-10) to verify the impact of self-management on diabetes, we highlight its relevance to scientific research and clinical applicability. However, to date, no study has been conducted to scientifically support its use in other languages.OBJECTIVE: To translate, cross-culturally adapt, and validate the HASMID-10 into the Brazilian Portuguese.DESIGN AND SETTING: A translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and validation study conducted at Ceuma University.METHODS: Study was conducted in accordance with the Guidelines for the Process of Cross-Cultural Adaptation of Self-Report Measures and Consensus-based Standards for the Selection of Health Measurement Instruments. We included participants of both sexes diagnosed with diabetes, aged between 18 and 64 years, and without cognitive deficits or any other limitations that would prevent them from answering the questionnaire. We assessed participants using the problem areas in diabetes (PAID) scale and HASMID-10. We assessed reliability using a test-retest model with a 7-day interval between assessments. We used intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), 95% confidence interval (CI), standard error of measurement (SEM), minimum detectable difference (MDD), Spearman correlation coefficient, and floor and ceiling effects.RESULTS: Sample comprised 116 participants, most of whom were women, overweight, non-practitioners of physical activity, and nonsmokers. We observed significant correlations (P = 0.006; rho = -0.256) between the HASMID-10 and PAID, adequate reliability (ICC = 0.780) and internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.796). No ceiling or floor effects were observed.CONCLUSION: HASMID-10 has adequate measurement properties and may be used for Brazilians.

Abstract:Introduction and hypothesis: Condition-specific sexual questionnaires are important patient-reported outcome measures. The aim of this study was to translate and validate the Pelvic Organ Prolapse/Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire-International Urogynecology Association Revised (PISQ-IR) into Brazilian Portuguese and to clinically validate it in a Brazilian Portuguese-speaking population. Methods: Translation and validation of the PISQ-IR was performed according to the International Urogynecological Association-recommended process and guidelines. For external validity, PISQ-IR subscales were compared with the clinical measures, Pelvic Organ Prolapse Quantification system (POP-Q) stage, pelvic floor muscle tone, and Oxford Grading Scale (Pearson correlations). Descriptive statistics, internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha coefficient), and test-retest reliability (interclass correlation coefficient) were calculated for all PISQ-IR subscales. Results: A total of 120 sexually active and 106 not sexually active women were enrolled in the study between March 2015 and July 2019. Internal consistency was acceptable, with Cronbach's alpha values 0.60-0.80, except for the sexual arousal and orgasm, sexual arousal and partner-related issues, sexual arousal and condition-specific issues, global rating of sexual quality and condition impact subscales. PISQ-IR demonstrated good reliability (α > 0.6, CIC = 0.996). The agreement for each individual questionnaire item also individually presented substantial agreement between the assessments (κ 0.61-0.8). There was a correlation between PISQ-IR and POP, mixed, stress and fecal incontinence diagnosis and a positive correlation with pelvic floor muscle function according to the Oxford Scale in sexually active women. For sexually inactive women there was a correlation between PISQ-IR and mixed urinary symptoms. Conclusions: The Brazilian Portuguese version of PISQ-IR is a reliable and valid tool that can be easily used for the identification and assessment of sexual function in Brazilian Portuguese-speaking women with pelvic floor disorders.

Abstract:Background: The assessment of female sexual function after diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer is relevant, as cancer can negatively affect sexuality and, therefore, quality of life. Instruments assessing female sexuality can be useful in clinical practice. However, there are few validated instruments available for this purpose. This study aimed to translate the Female Sexual Function Index Adaptation for Breast Cancer Patients (FSFI-BC) into Brazilian Portuguese and culturally adapt it for use in Brazil. Patients and methods: Translation and cross-cultural adaptation followed the linguistic validation process, according to international guidelines. The instrument was translated and back-translated by independent translators. Sixty women aged 25 to 70 years who had been diagnosed and surgically treated for breast cancer at least 6 months previously participated in the cultural adaptation process. Participants were stratified into sexually active or inactive. Internal consistency was analyzed using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Results: Mean participant age was 52.5 years. For sexually active women, reliability analysis (Cronbach's alpha) showed excellent internal consistency between the items of the subscales 'Desire/Arousal' (α = 0.912) and 'Orgasm' (α = 0.904), and good internal consistency for 'Lubrication' (α = 0.814) and 'Pain' (α = 0.839). For sexually inactive women, excellent internal consistency was observed between the items of the subscale 'Reason for Inactivity - difficulty lubricating' (α = 0.930), and good internal consistency for the other subscales. The instrument had face and content validity. Conclusions: FSFI-BC was translated and culturally adapted to the context of the Brazilian population.
