Abstract:This article presents a theoretical analysis of spin-dependent transport and spin-transport torque for a Borophene-based ferromagnetic/normal/ferromagnetic junction. The study focuses on Borophene nanoribbon (BNRs) as a basis for spin valve numerical calculations for conductance (the parallel and antiparallel configuration of lead magnetizations), magnetoresistance (MR), and spin transfer torque(STT). The Landauer formalism and non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) approaches are used to derive the spin-dependent tunneling currents in the Magnetic Tunnel Junction (MTJ). The results of the calculations for a Zigzag BNR show that the conductance is always larger than e2/h for the parallel configuration of lead magnetizations, but for the antiparallel configuration, the conductance becomes zero in specific ranges of energy. A perfect MR plateau is found for the junction in the absence of disorder, which proves to be an excellent spin valve candidate. The variations of STT with Fermi energy the relative angle between two electrodes magnetizations are studied for different strengths of ferromagnetic magnetization.strengths. The STT per unit bias voltage as a function of the Fermi energy, decreases significantly in the Dirac point energy. A sinusoidal oscillatory pattern can be evidently observed in the STT at unit bias voltage V versus the angle between the two magnetic electrodes, which amplifies as M increases. Borophene has unique properties, including low density and high hardness, heat resistance, and electrical conductivity, which make it a promising candidate for spintronics. The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the spin-dependent properties of Borophene and its potential applications in spintronics.

Abstract:Spintronics is a promising alternative to the conventional silicon transistor-based electronics that are gradually approaching their physical limitations. Ultrathin two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) materials (2D materials) with controllable spin degrees of freedom are recognized as extremely promising spintronic materials in architectures for the post-Moore era. In this Perspective, we review recent progress on spin-dependent transport behaviors (SDTBs) confined at the 2D scale, which are the mainstream paradigms for spintronic devices. We first present the mechanism and the key factors of SDTBs in 2D nonmagnetic materials-based hybrid devices. Then, some chemical modulation strategies for inducing short-range magnetic order and magneto-electric performance into 2D nonmagnetic materials are discussed. Furthermore, we concentrate on introducing intriguing SDTBs in 2D long-range ferromagnetic materials-based vdW devices. Finally, we highlight the current challenges in the study of spin-dependent transport of 2D modified materials and 2D material-based spintronic devices, in the hope of accelerating their applications.

Abstract:We reported the first spin potentiometric measurement to electrically detect spin polarization arising from spin-momentum locking in topological insulator (TI) surface states using ferromagnet/tunnel barrier contacts [1]. This method has been adopted to measure the current generated spin in other TI systems [2-10], albeit with conflicting signs of the measured spin voltage [1,2,4,6-10]. Tian et al. wish to use their model as presented in Ref. [4] to determine the sign of the induced spin polarization, and thereby determine whether the claims of various groups to have sampled the topologically protected surface states in bulk TIs are correct. The central point of our Reply is that the model as presented is incapable of doing so because it fails to include separate physical contributions which independently effect the sign of the spin polarization measured.
