Abstract:Widespread and ineffective dye treatment in aquatic environment leads to serious pollution problems, threatening ecology and human health. Herein, manganese cerium bimetallic oxide cathode material (MnCeOx@GF) x @GF) was prepared by hydrothermal method combined with calcination, and the electrochemical Fenton degradation performance of a typical dye Rhodamine B (Rh B) was investigated. The results show that the degradation of Rh B by MnCeOx@GF x @GF can reach 96.5 % within 2 h in acidic environment and continue to perform effectively after 4 repeated experiments. Combined with SEM and electrochemical test results, it can be seen that the bimetallic composite oxides formed by manganese and cerium on the surface of the support can effectively enhance the catalytic activity of the material, the addition of cerium changes the morphology of manganese oxides and promotes the generation of multiple valence composite oxides of transition metals, and improves the degradation of Rh B. Based on the free radical masking experiments, hydroxyl radical (center dot OH) center dot OH) is the main active substance in the electro-Fenton degradation process. This work not only provides a way to design and manufacture cathode materials for in situ electrosynthesis of H2O2, 2 O 2 , but also provides an important reference for improving the reusability of cathodes for sustainable dye wastewater treatment.
Heterogeneous Activation of Peroxymonosulfate by Fe-Co Layered Doubled Hydroxide for Efficient Catalytic Degradation of Rhoadmine B

Abstract:Nowadays, increasing attention has been paid to the sulfate radical (SO4−) due to its high oxidation efficiency for refractory organic pollutants. In this study, a novel heterogeneous catalyst, Fe-Co layered doubled hydroxide (FeCo-LDH) was prepared by co-precipitation method for the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS). The characterization results showed that FeCo-LDH with Fe:Co ratio of 1:2 had high purity and crystallographic structure. With Rhodmine B (RhB) as the model organic pollutant, FeCo-LDH (1:2)/PMS system exhibited much superior degradation performance, which was comparative to homogeneous Co(II)/PMS system. The effect of various parameters, such as temperature, initial pH, initial RhB concentration, PMS dosage and catalyst loading on the RhB degradation was discussed in detail. The RhB oxidation in FeCo-LDH/PMS system can be described well by pseudo-first-order kinetic and the activation energy was calculated as 59.71kJ/mol. The quenching experiments using ethanol and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) as radical scavengers indicated that both SO4− and OH radicals were generated in FeCo-LDH/PMS system and SO4− radicals acted as the predominant reactive species. The good stability and catalytic activity of as-prepared solid catalyst after used repeatedly as well as in different water sources revealed its potential in practical application.

Abstract:In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water polluting dyes. Zeolite imidazole‐based framework (ZIF‐67), a notable class of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), shows promise in activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for pollutant degradation due to its uniformly distributed cobalt ions. However, its nanoparticle form and the elution of cobalt ions during use cause challenges in recycling and the risk of secondary pollution. In this study, a magnetic core‐shell hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) on the MOF (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully prepared. The porous HOF shell not only protects the active sites and mitigates cobalt ion leaching but also reduces mass transfer limitations, ensuring sustained catalytic performance. The magnetic Fe3O4 core enhances electron transfer between cobalt ions, boosts catalytic efficiency, and facilitates easy separation and recycling. This core‐shell structure effectively activates PMS, achieving 100% removal of Rhodamine B, a model wastewater dye, within 10 min (Rh B = 50 mg L−1, HFZ = 150 mg L−1, PMS = 1.5 mm, pH = 7, room temperature). Furthermore, under the protection of the HOF shell, cobalt ion leaching is minimized to a negligible value (0.14 mg L−1) after 5 cycles of use. The research provides fresh perspectives into the development of core‐shell composite materials with improved performance and recyclability in wastewater treatment.

Abstract:Metal-organic frameworks with high porosity have received much attention in environmental pollutant treatment. This study presented a simple single-pot solvent thermal method for the preparation of a bimetal-organic framework MIL-53(Fe,Ni), further used for activated peroxydisulfate to degrade rhodamine B (RhB). The morphology and structure of the sample were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The results showed that MIL-53(Fe,Ni) was successfully synthesized by the simple reaction, with high thermal stability and high specific surface area. The effects of pH value, co-existing ions, temperature, humic acid and different real water samples on RhB degradation were systematically investigated. Under optimized conditions, 93.9% of RhB was degraded within 180 min, together with excellent reusability. Quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance showed that both free radicals (∙OH, SO 4 ∙- and O 2 ∙- ) and non-free radicals ( 1 O 2 and direct charge transfer) were responsible for the RhB degradation. In addition, the identification of intermediates by high-resolution mass spectrometer and reaction site prediction calculations (electrostatic potential, Fukui function and molecular orbit analysis), proposing a possible degradation pathway of RhB. The work highlights the broad applications of bimetal-organic frameworks in advanced oxidation processes.

Abstract:Abstract Research literature about hypnosis highlights the importance of clients’ attitudes and beliefs toward hypnosis because they promote hypnotic responses and may predict the effectiveness of hypnotic interventions as well as minimize iatrogenic effects for clients. This study analyzes the factorial structure and psychometric properties with confirmatory methodology of the Valencia Scale of Attitudes and Beliefs Toward Hypnosis–Client Version, using a Portuguese sample. We expected to replicate the results obtained in previous research conducted with samples from various countries. The Portuguese sample comprised 1,977 participants. We found a structure of 8 factors, with an adequate internal consistency and test–retest reliability. Results are similar to those found in exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses with samples from other countries.
Fe-Mo-O Doping G-C3n4 Exfoliated Composite for Removal of Rhodamine B by Advanced Oxidation and Photocatalysis

Abstract:Fe-Mo-O doping g-C3N4 exfoliated composite was fabricated and characterized by XRD, FT-IR, UV-vis, SEM, TEM, XPS and N(2 )adsorption-desorption techniques. The as-prepared composite was composed of MoO3, FeMoyOx and exfoliated g-C3N4 crystals, and thus demonstrated high efficiency for degradation of Rhodamine B by advanced oxidation due to the rapid decomposition of H2O2 over the composite catalyst, giving 99 % degradation rate within oxidation time of 15 min. Also, it demonstrated high activity for photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B under visible light, achieving > 99 % degradation rate. The high catalytic activity for advanced oxidation and photocatalysis was mainly ascribed to the Fe/Mo dual ion synergy system that could effectively protect Fe (II), or heterojunctions on exfoliated g-C(3)N(4 )that could inhibit the recombination of photogenerated electrons and holes. Moreover, the composite catalyst presented an excellent recovery and reusability for advanced oxidation and photocatalytic degradation.

Abstract:How to improve the issues of ion agglomeration and metal ion leaching, and how to prepare cobalt-based catalysts with high reactivity and stability, are highly desired yet challenging. In this paper, MoS 2 modified Co-MOF derived nitrogen-doped carbon (Co/PCN/MoS 2 ) microspheres rich in active sites were prepared using a simple carbonation-hydrothermal method, with g-C 3 N 4 , MoS 2 and Co-MOF to overcome the aforementioned limitations. The flower-like nanostructure of MoS 2 contributed to exposing more marginal active sites, allowing the high dispersion of Co-MOF within its structure. Meanwhile, Mo 4+ /Mo 6+ and S species coexisted in MoS 2 , which promoted the valence cycle and electron transfer process, and improved the catalytic activity of the composite. The successful synthesis of Co/PCN/MoS 2 was proved by XRD, SEM and FTIR characterizations. The electrochemical performance analysis showed that Co/PCN/MoS 2 exhibited higher redox capacity than MoS 2 , and Co/PCN/MoS 2 /PMS system achieved the degradation rate of RhB as high as 97.19% within 30 min, which is higher than that of Co-MOF/g-C 3 N 4 /PMS (80.67%), Co-MOF/MoS 2 /PMS (78.08%), Co-MOF/PMS (77.00%), g-C 3 N 4 /PMS (53.68%) and MoS 2 /PMS (28.10%) systems. It had good anti-interference ability against coexisting substances, achieved good degradation performance in a wide pH range (pH 2.0–10.0), and possessed excellent stability and reusability with RhB degradation rate of 91.10% after 5 cycles. The quenching test confirmed that non free radical 1 O 2 is the main ROS for RhB degradation. This work is expected to provide a new idea and direction for the design and development of metal-doped heterogeneous catalysts with high activity and stability.

Abstract:In this work, a new cobalt-based metal-organic framework (JLNU-500), [Co2(OH)(PBA)(AIP)]·3DMA·0.75H2O (4-(pyridin-4-yl) benzoic acid (HPBA), 5-aminoisophthalic acid (H2AIP) and N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMA)) was fabricated through solvothermal method. JLNU-500 has 3D network architecture with 1D nanopore channels. The prepared JLNU-500 was capable of activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for Rhodamine B (RhB) dye decolorization. Interestingly, catalyst JLNU-500 exhibited high efficiency for PMS activation, and nearly 100% (above 99.8%) removal of RhB with a high concentration (50.0 mg/L, 100 mL) was achieved within 6 min. The reaction rate constant of JLNU-500/PMS system was 1.02 min−1 calculated based on the pseudo-first-order kinetic, higher than other reported catalysts. Furthermore, the factors which could influence PMS activation were also investigated, for example, PMS dosage, catalyst dosage, pollutant RhB concentration, reaction temperature and solution pH. More importantly, the radical trapping experiments ferreted out that sulfate (SO4−•) and hydroxyl (•OH) radicals were the dominating oxidants in the removal of RhB. Besides, the possible degradation mechanism was elucidated. This work provides new prospect into fabricating new MOFs that can be potential employed for high-efficiency catalytic oxidation as heterogeneous catalysts.

Abstract:In this study, the magnetic cobalt‐iron composite loaded on carbon derived from cigarette butts (Co) was successfully prepared for the first time and applied for the activation of peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade Rhodamine B (RhB). The results indicated that approximately 99 % of RhB (50 mg/L) was degraded by Co (0.04 g/L) activated PMS (0.3 mM) within 15 min. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the reaction system were identified to be OH, SO 4 − and 1 O 2 , which responsible for the rapid degradation of RhB. It was also found that RhB could be efficiently removed in real water matrixes, demonstrating that Co has excellent anti-interference performance. Meanwhile, strong magnetism of Co made it easy to separate from water and recover for reuse. These results fully proved that Co has good practical application potential. In addition, the combination of Co and PMS still exhibited outstanding degradation efficiencies of phenacetin (PNT), bisphenol A (BPA), sulfamethazine (SMZ) and 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D). Therefore, this study provides a new method for the reuse of discarded cigarette butts to fabricate catalysts with extremely superior performance and easy to use for PMS activation to eliminate organic pollutants from wastewater.

Abstract:We describe an operation support system (OSS) architecture for network element (NE) allocation in optical access networks (OANs). Deploying OAN elements to meet all customer demand would be very costly because access networks are extend in many directions. To reduce this cost, it would be necessary to only install enough NEs to meet the current demand, and to allocate suitable elements during the process of service delivery. Because OANs consist of several elements, it is also necessary to control the sequence of element allocation and re-allocation. Therefore, an allocation integration function to control the allocation processes is necessary, as well as functions for each NE allocation. We have developed an OSS architecture that meets these requirements. We have also determined the most efficient allocation process for allocating OAN elements.
Magnetic core–shell S-Fe@MOF derivative hybrids to activate peroxymonosulfate for highly efficient degradation of tetrabromobisphenol A

Abstract:In recent years, new heterogeneous catalysts derived from metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely used in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs). In this work, zeolite imidazole framework-67 (ZIF-67) and sulfide nanozero-valent iron (S-Fe) were used as precursors to prepare S-Fe/Co bimetallic nanoparticles embedded in graphitized carbon (S-Fe/Co@GC) and used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) to degrade tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA). Morphological and structural characterization indicated that S-Fe/Co@GC compared to pre-carbonization, the pore size of the material became larger, formed a graphite carbon skeleton with excellent electrical conductivity. In a 0.2 g/L S-Fe/Co@GC and 0.6 mM PMS system, 96.1% of TBBPA (20 mg/L) was degraded within 30 min, and the degradation yielded a total organic carbon (TOC) removal of 56.2% in 60 min. This excellent catalytic activity was attributed to the synergistic effect of graphitic carbon, sulfide nanozero-valent iron and metallic cobalt. Radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technology indicated that reactive oxygen species (ROS) included HO•, SO4 •−, O2 •− and 1O2, among which O2 •− plays a leading role in the degradation of TBBPA. Based on the LC-MS analysis of the degradation intermediates, the degradation pathway of TBBPA in the S-Fe/Co@GC/PMS system was proposed. In addition, S-Fe/Co@GC showed a low ion leaching rate, and the regenerated S-Fe/Co@GC still had high catalytic performance. This work will extend the development of MOFs encapsulate functional nanoparticle materials for environmental remediation.

Abstract:Nano magnetic particles immobilized on the surface of carbon spheres ( M Fe 2 O 4 /CNS, M = Mn, Ni, Zn) composites have been obtained through a facile and environmental friendly solvothermal method. The measurement results of M Fe 2 O 4 /CNS clarified the successful preparation of M Fe 2 O 4 /CNS and characterization of composites. Meanwhile, the activation performance of M Fe 2 O 4 /CNS was also measured through catalyzing persulfate (PS) for degrading Rhodamine B. Results showed that the catalytic performance of M Fe 2 O 4 /CNS for PS activation was much stronger than that of pure CNS, and the catalytic ability of M Fe 2 O 4 /CNS was MnFe 2 O 4 /CNS > NiFe 2 O 4 /CNS > ZnFe 2 O 4 /CNS. The influence factors of Rhodamine B degradation were also investigated. When the optimum conditions were conducted, with PS 5 × 10 –3 M, MnFe 2 O 4 /CNS 0.5 g/L, initial pH 6.0, and 60 °C, 98.4% Rhodamine B degradation was obtained within 70 min. Finally, the recycle of MnFe 2 O 4 /CNS was carried out for four times, which demonstrated the favorable retrievability and reusability of MnFe 2 O 4 /CNS. The experiments also proved that the synthesized MnFe 2 O 4 /CNS was a potentially useful catalyst for contaminants degradation in water/wastewater treatment.

Identification of the 11-cis-specific retinyl-ester synthase in retinal Müller cells as multifunctional O-acyltransferase (MFAT)

Abstract:Significance The noncanonical visual cycle permits sustained vision in daylight by providing chromophore precursor (11-cis-retinol) to cone photoreceptors at high rates. The isomerase of this pathway catalyzes equilibrium isomerization of retinol. At equilibrium, all-trans-retinol and 13-cis-retinol are strongly favored over 11-cis-retinol. A mechanism of mass action is hence required to drive production of 11-cis-retinol. Homogenates of cone-dominant retinas convert all-trans-retinol to 11-cis-retinyl esters, suggesting that secondary esterification of 11-cis-retinol drives production of 11-cis-retinoids for synthesis of chromophore. Here, we identified an enzyme, multifunctional O-acyltransferase (MFAT), that specifically esterifies 11-cis-retinol. MFAT acts cooperatively with isomerase-2 in Müller cells to drive production of 11-cis-retinoids. Thus, the energy of retinoid isomerization comes from hydrolysis of the thioester in an activated fatty acid by MFAT. Absorption of a photon by a rhodopsin or cone-opsin pigment isomerizes its 11-cis-retinaldehyde (11-cis-RAL) chromophore to all-trans-retinaldehyde (all-trans-RAL), which dissociates after a brief period of activation. Light sensitivity is restored to the resulting apo-opsin when it recombines with another 11-cis-RAL. Conversion of all-trans-RAL to 11-cis-RAL is carried out by an enzyme pathway called the visual cycle in cells of the retinal pigment epithelium. A second visual cycle is present in Müller cells of the retina. The retinol isomerase for this noncanonical pathway is dihydroceramide desaturase (DES1), which catalyzes equilibrium isomerization of retinol. Because 11-cis-retinol (11-cis-ROL) constitutes only a small fraction of total retinols in an equilibrium mixture, a subsequent step involving selective removal of 11-cis-ROL is required to drive synthesis of 11-cis-retinoids for production of visual chromophore. Selective esterification of 11-cis-ROL is one possibility. Crude homogenates of chicken retinas rapidly convert all-trans-ROL to 11-cis-retinyl esters (11-cis-REs) with minimal formation of other retinyl-ester isomers. This enzymatic activity implies the existence of an 11-cis-specific retinyl-ester synthase in Müller cells. Here, we evaluated multifunctional O-acyltransferase (MFAT) as a candidate for this 11-cis-RE-synthase. MFAT exhibited much higher catalytic efficiency as a synthase of 11-cis-REs versus other retinyl-ester isomers. Further, we show that MFAT is expressed in Müller cells. Finally, homogenates of cells coexpressing DES1 and MFAT catalyzed the conversion of all-trans-ROL to 11-cis-RP, similar to what we observed with chicken-retina homogenates. MFAT is therefore an excellent candidate for the retinyl-ester synthase that cooperates with DES1 to drive synthesis of 11-cis-retinoids by mass action.
Insights into the mechanism of multiple Cu-doped CoFe2O4 nanocatalyst activated peroxymonosulfate for efficient degradation of Rhodamine B

Abstract:The multiple metal catalyst as a promising nanomaterial has shown excellent activity in the peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation for pollutant degradation. However, the role of special sites and in-depth understanding of the PMS activation mechanism are not fully studied. In this study, a Cu-doped CoFe2O4 nanocatalyst (0.5CCF) was synthesized by a sol-gel and calcination method, and used for PMS activation to remove Rhodamine B (RhB). The results showed that the Cu doping obviously enhanced the catalytic performance of CoFe2O4, with 99.70% of RhB removed by 0.5CCF while 74.91% in the CoFe2O4 within 15 min. Based on the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical analysis, this could be ascribed to the more low valence of Co and Fe species generated on the 0.5CCF and faster electron transfers occurred in the 0.5CCF due to the Cu doping. In addition, Cu doping could provide more reaction sites for the 0.5CCF to activate PMS for RhB removal. The metal species and the surface hydroxyl were the reaction sites of PMS activation, and the surface hydroxyl played an important role in surface-bound reactive species generation. During the PMS activation, the Cu not only activated PMS to produce reactive oxygen species (ROS), but also regenerated Co2+ and Fe2+ to accelerate the PMS activation. The non-radical of 1O2 was the main ROS with a 99.35% of contribution rate, and the SO5•- self-reaction was its major source. This study provides a new insight to enhance the PMS activation performance of multiple metal catalysts by Cu doping in wastewater treatment.
Enhanced peroxymonosulfate activation via MOF-derived bimetal core-shell Co-Fe@NC hybrids to degrade emerging pollutants

Abstract:The reasonable control of the structure of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is a promising strategy for improving their peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation activity. In this study, ZIF-67 @ZIF-8 was used as a template to prepare bimetallic core–shell Co-Fe@NC via Fe doping and high-temperature carbonization. Co-Fe@NC maintained the core–shell structure of the original MOF, in which cobalt was uniformly distributed in the nitrogen-doped graphite carbon skeleton and the surface of the graphite carbon skeleton was covered with iron. With the synergistic effect of the nitrogen-doped graphite carbon skeleton, iron, and cobalt, 100% of tetrabromobisphenol S (TBBPS) was removed in 60 min with k obs = 0.062 min −1 in /PMS system. The addition of iron increased the graphitization degree with I D /I G value increased from 0.98 (Co@NC) to 1.034 () and electron transfer rate of the carbon skeleton. Besides, the Co leaching was effectively attenuated from 1.86 mg/L(Co@NC) to 0.78 mg/L () by the core-shell structure and bimetal strategy. Both O 2 · - and 1 O 2 contributed to the degradation of TBBPS according to quenching experiments. TBBPS was deeply degraded into small-molecule compounds through three degradation pathways by the /PMS system. This study provides a new strategy for designing highly efficient bimetal–carbon composites for environmental remediation.

Abstract:Sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes (SR-AOPs) have been considered as a promising approach for degrading organic pollutants. Herein, CoFe 2 O 4 anchored on attapulgite-biochar composites (CoFe 2 O 4 @ATP–BC) were synthesized by a sol-gel co-pyrolysis method and showed excellent catalytic performance, reusability and stability in activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB). The effects of PMS concentration, catalyst dosage, temperature, initial pH, NOM and inorganic ions on the removal of RhB were investigated. The radical quenching experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurement confirmed that 1 O 2 , O 2 ∙− and surface-bound ∙OH and SO 4 ∙− were major reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the RhB degradation by CoFe 2 O 4 @ATP–BC/PMS system, indicating that radical and non-radical degradation pathways were both involved. The possible catalytic mechanism of PMS by CoFe 2 O 4 @ATP–BC was proposed including the interface reaction and bulk reaction. The main degradation intermediates were identified by liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and three possible degradation pathways of RhB were deduced accordingly. In general, the CoFe 2 O 4 @ATP–BC/PMS system provided fundamentals of theoretical and applied research to further develop supported bimetallic oxides for advanced oxidation treatment of organic wastewater.

Abstract:CoFe2O4/ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) nanocomposites were synthesized and tested as heterogeneous peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activator for the removal of rhodamine B. Characterization confirmed that CoFe2O4 nanoparticles were tightly bonded to OMC, and the hybrid catalyst possessed high surface area, pore volume, and superparamagnetism. Oxidation experiments demonstrated that CoFe2O4/OMC nanocomposites displayed favorable catalytic activity in PMS solution and rhodamine B degradation could be well described by pseudo-first-order kinetic model. Sulfate radicals (SO4-·) were verified as the primary reactive species which was responsible for the decomposition of rhodamine B. The optimum loading ratio of CoFe2O4 and OMC was determined to be 5:1. Under optimum operational condition (catalyst dosage 0.05 g/L, PMS concentration 1.5 mM, pH 7.0, and 25 °C), CoFe2O4/OMC-activated peroxymonosulfate system could achieve almost complete decolorization of 100 mg/L rhodamine B within 60 min. The enhanced catalytic activity of CoFe2O4/OMC nanocomposites compared to that of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles could be attributable to the increased adsorption capacity and accelerated redox cycles between Co(III)/Co(II) and Fe(III)/Fe(II).

Abstract:The development of efficient catalysts to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for pollutant degradation has captured tremendous attentions. Herein, a series of high-performance MIL-68(Fe)/MoS2 (68M) composite catalysts with Fe-Mo bimetallic active sites were synthesized. Several characterization results confirmed the successful preparation of these composite materials. The PMS activation by MIL-68(Fe)/MoS2 was systematically evaluated by degrading Rhodamine B (RhB). It was shown that the RhB removal rate could reach up to 99% within 15 min with catalyst and PMS dosage of 0.2 g/L and 0.4 mM, respectively. It could be attributed to the synergistic effects of Fe-site, Mo-site and S-vacancy. The RhB removal rate could achieve 91%− 99% under a broad PH range (2−10) in 68M-10/PMS system. The RhB removal efficiency still maintained higher-level (92.2%) after being used for five cycles, suggesting the outstanding reusability of 68M-10. The PMS activation mechanism was explored by XPS, EPR and the RhB degradation pathway was also proposed based on HR-MS results. Above results highlighted the bright application prospect of the synthesized catalysts in solving the increasing dye crisis.
