Abstract:Introduction: Health literacy of women can significantly affect different aspects of reproductive health. The aim of this study was the assessment of relationship of health literacy, socio-demographic characteristics and reproductive health behaviors of women in Serbia. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study on a random sample of women aged 18 and over from the territories of three Serbian regions, stratified according to age groups, region and type of settlement. A standardized version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47) was used in assessing health literacy of women. Results: Based on the calculated index of health literacy, 9.6% of respondents had inadequate health literacy. Inadequate levels of health literacy were more common in women living in rural areas (OR = 1.111) and the poorer classes (OR = 5.122). Employed women (OP = 1.249), with good health (OR = 1.512) with a degree (OR = 1.535) had bigger odds to have adequate health literacy. Multivariate regression analysis showed the following significant predictors: commitment to the chosen gynecologist (OR = 1.530), contraceptive use (OR = 1.020), knowledge of the damages that could be caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) (OR = 1.578), awareness of vaccine availability against HPV infection (OR = 1.217) and following the health-related topics (OR = 2.350). Conclusion: Limited levels of health literacy were significantly higher among middle-aged women, among those living in rural areas, among women who rated their health as poor or very poor, and who exhibited more negative patterns of reproductive health behavior, indicating the need for implementation of prevention programs and strategies with the aim of increasing the level of health literacy.

Abstract:Background: Given the rapid proliferation and use of online health resources, many of which may be of dubious quality, there is an increasing need to develop electronic health literacy (e-health literacy) skills among the population of internet users. E-health literacy encompasses the skills and abilities needed to access, understand, validate, evaluate, interpret, and apply online health-related information. Measuring e-health literacy has become crucial for developing targeted interventions, assessing their impact, and producing high-quality research findings that can inform health policy and clinical practice, which can lead to improved health outcomes and potentially reducing health inequalities. The scales need to be valid and reliable so that decisions are based on high-quality data. In this regard, the issue of the measurement invariance of scales across different demographic groups has been neglected. This is critical, as assessments should be valid across different sociodemographic groups to avoid bias when comparing them. The aim of this study was to validate the Extended e-health literacy scale (eHEALS-E) on general population and investigate its structural validity and internal consistency, construct validity in terms of convergent and discriminant validity, and examine its measurement invariance across gender, age, education and social status. Methods: The data were collected as a part of a national health literacy survey conducted by the Slovenian National Institute of Public Health. For this survey the initial eHEALS-E scale was revised in order to address its limitations and applicability to general population. Based on a nationally representative sample, the final sample for the analysis comprised 1,944 individuals who at least occasionally used one of the various internet services to obtain health-related information. Multiple group confirmatory factor analysis was used to examine the measurement invariance of the scale. Results: With some adjustments, the measurement model of the revised 6-dimensional eHEALS-E scale demonstrated a good fit to the data (χ2 = 2508, df = 282, RMSEA = 0.064, SRMR = 0.070, CFI = 0.90). The scale had good internal consistency (alpha = 0.89). Although evidence of the scale's convergent and discriminant validity was partially provided, the analysis revealed robust measurement invariance across sociodemographic groups. Conclusions: With a minor limitation, the scale ensures an unbiased e-health literacy assessment across different social groups, which is crucial for interventions that aim to reduce health-related social inequalities. This ensures that the interventions derived from the assessment of reality are equally valid and effective for everyone, regardless of their sociodemographic background.
Reliability and construct validity of 3 psychometric trust scales for women seeking substance abuse treatment in a community setting

Abstract:Background: Women with a history of substance use disorder (SUD) constitute a unique population with gender-specific needs in treatment. Most notable is high rates of prior trauma and the need for a trauma-informed care framework. Given theoretical links between trauma and interpersonal trust, understanding quantitatively how trust may impact outcomes for women in this population requires confirmation of validity of existing psychometric instruments. Objective: This study sought to confirm reliability and construct validity of the Rotter Interpersonal Trust Scale, Wake Forest Trust in Physician Scale, and the Revised Health Care System Distrust Scale (RHCSDS) for use in women with a history of SUD seeking treatment in a community-based setting. Methods: A total of 301 participants were enrolled between August 2017 and March 2018 at an urban, community-based residential substance abuse treatment program in the mid-South. Participants were given an electronic survey containing questions about demographics/clinical characteristics, the Rotter, Wake Forest, and RHCSDS scales, Socially Desirable Response Five-Item Survey (SDRS-5), and the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) questionnaire. All participants also completed a modified protocol of the "Trust Game." Statistical analysis was completed for each trust scale in regard to scale means and distribution, internal consistency, interscale correlation, and scale correlation to the ACE score. Results: Results confirm statistically significant (P < .001) differences in global trust and trust of health care providers compared with general population samples in prior studies. Internal consistency of scales is comparable to reliability testing in prior studies (α > .70 for all scales). Interscale correlation between individual scales is statistically significant, with the strongest relationship between the 2 health care–specific scales (r = −.740, P < .001). There was a weak, negative correlation between the ACE score and interpersonal trust (r = −.135, P = .019). Individual scales do not have statistically significant correlation with "Trust Game" scores. Discussion: Findings suggest reliability and construct validity of scales for use in this population.

Abstract:This study developed and evaluated an instrument to measure the patient-nurse trust relationship in a medically underserved community. An exploratory sequential design was employed. In-depth interviews with 20 patients and 15 nurses were conducted to elicit their experiences regarding trust. Interview results were coded, analyzed and formatted into a Likert scale instrument. The instrument was administered to 120 patients. 19 items were retained for the final instrument with item-to-total correlational coefficients greater than 0.5, and a Cronbach's alpha of 0.95. Both construct validity and preliminary criterion validity were confirmed. Psychometric proportions of the instrument were established.

Nursing students' attitudes and beliefs towards addressing sexual health: A multicentre study and latent class analysis

Abstract:Background: To provide competent and respectful sexual health care, a critical and comprehensive assessment of students' attitudes towards sexuality is needed, which implies using reliable and valid questionnaires. Aim: To assess whether the extended version of the Students Attitude Towards Addressing Sexual Health (SA-SH-Ext) provides different, additional information about students' attitudes towards providing sexual healthcare compared to the Sexual Attitude and Beliefs Survey (SABS), to explore SA-SH-Ext potential response patterns through latent class analysis and to assess students' attitudes towards providing sexual healthcare and evaluate the differences in their attitudes to the cultural background and sociodemographic characteristics. Design: Multicentre, descriptive, analytical, comparative, and correlational cross-sectional study at three nursing faculties. Participants: Nursing students n = 514 (Serbia n = 180, Poland n = 150 and Lithuania n = 184). Methods: A general questionnaire for obtaining sociodemographic data, SA-SH-Ext and SABS were used as students' report measures. Results: One part of the variance of each instrument does not overlap with the other, indicating that these instruments, in addition to the shared variance, provide different, additional information. A solution with three latent classes was found in the domain of responses to the SA-SH-Ext items. The response pattern placed nursing students in the class Comfortable and prepared in some situations, and the SABS score revealed students' moderately positive attitudes towards providing sexual healthcare. Significantly more conservative attitudes were demonstrated by students from Poland, those identifying their religious affiliation as Catholic and females, while first-year students showed more positive attitudes than those in later years of study. Conclusions: The SA-SH-Ext and SABS enable a reliable and quick assessment of nursing students' comfort and competence in providing sexual healthcare. However, the differences in students' attitudes towards sexuality concerning belonging to a specific group imply a need for curriculum redesign and facilitating students to be more open to communication about sexuality with people with mental illnesses and intellectual and physical disabilities.
Translation, transcultural adaptation, and validation of the serbian version of the University of Washington Quality of Life questionnaire (UW-QoL) - a pilot study

Abstract:Background/Aim. The University of Washington Quality of Life (UW-QoL) questionnaire is one of the most frequently applied instruments for the evaluation of the health-related quality of life of head and neck cancer patients worldwide. The aim of this study was to perform a formal translation of the original version into the Serbian language, assess its psychometric properties , and validate it for use in the Serbian-speaking population. Methods. The study was designed as pilot research and conducted between August and October 2023. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was established by calculating Cronbach?s alpha coefficient (CA). The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was a measure of temporal stability. The construct validity of the instrument was assessed by correlating its total scores with Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14) and Emotion Regulation Questionnaire results. Results. A total of 30 patients (23 males and 7 females) with a mean age of 58.07 ? 13.59 years were enrolled in the research. Mean values of the physical function and social -emotional function subscales were 59.50 ? 12.68 and 55.39 ? 15.26 (the researchers interviewed the participants) and 58.78 ? 12.57 and 57.72 ? 14.91 (the patients completed the questionnaire by themselves). CA value of the Serbian version of the UW-QoL questionnaire was 0.816 (the questionnaire was filled out by the researchers) and 0.802 (the subjects completed it on their own). ICC was 0.797. There was a statistically significant strong correlation between the UW-QoL questionnaire and OHIP-14 total scores. The obtained results showed a weak, nonsignificant correlation between the UW-QoL questionnaire and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. Conclusion. Our pilot research showed that the Serbian version of the UW-QoL questionnaire appears as psychometrically valid and reliable as the original English version.

Abstract:Background: Cervical cancer occupies a significant place in the overall structure of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. We focused on the sexual health and use of cervical cancer screening among the female working population of reproductive age in Central Serbia. Methods: The research was conducted as a cross-sectional study, according to the methodology Stepwise approach to noncommunicable disease risk factor surveillance WHO. The study population consisted of 1182 female working population aged 18-49 years, living on the territory of Central Serbia. The method of simple random sampling was utilized in the research itself. An anonymous standardized questionnaire was used as a research tool. Results: During the first sexual intercourse, 38.9% of the participants reported not having used any of the contraceptives, whereas 74.5% of the participants reported not having used them during their last sexual intercourse and 26.1% of the respondents reported not having had a single Pap smear in their lifetime. The multivariate logistic regression analysis singled out the following factors in women who reported not having done a Pap smear in their lifetime as the most significant ones: age – the youngest age group (OR = 3.30, CI = 1.80-6.04), unemployment (OR = 2.87, CI = 0.07-3.40), women who had never been married or had never been in a common-law marriage (OR = 2.55, CI = 1.40-4.66) and individuals with a medium education level (OR = 2.63, CI = 1.67-4.14). Conclusion: In Serbia, all the activities should be directed towards increasing the levels of awareness and knowledge on sexual health and cervical cancer screening services.

Abstract:We present details about the validation of the Serbian version of the Experiences in Close Relationships-Revised questionnaire modified to measure attachment in close relationships in general (SM-ECR-R). Its psychometric features were examined with 2 samples of students (N = 719 and N = 91) and 1 group of employed adults (N = 259). The results obtained in the student sample were equivalent to those obtained in validation studies worldwide, whereas in the more heterogeneous sample of employed adults, internal consistency of both avoidance and anxiety was lower and their intercorrelation was higher. Test-retest reliability was satisfactory, and relations with measures of attachment, empathy, and personality structure were meaningful. The results support the SM-ECR-R as a reliable and valid research instrument, but its internal structure and consistency might vary in different samples, depending on age, education, gender, and culture.

Abstract:Background: The way the nursing profession is perceived plays a pivotal role in shaping the public's attitude toward its members, primarily influenced by interactions with nurses and media representation. However, it can be significantly impacted by historical and traditional stereotypes, coupled with enduring gender bias and other preconceived notions. Objectives: The study aimed to examined how the title "nurse" reflects the profession's identity, perception as a female occupation, and status as a healthcare activity. It also assessed awareness of nurses' roles, education and public presence, comparing general population and patients' opinions in the Republic of Croatia. Methods: Conducted as a cross-sectional study, this research employed a structured questionnaire and a convenience sampling approach. It encompassed both the general population and patients from Croatia, with data collection spanning from February 15, 2023, to March 16, 2023, and resulting in a total sample size of 624 participants. Statistical analysis included both descriptive and inferential techniques, and significance was set at p < .01 (two-tailed). Results: A substantial proportion of respondents, amounting to 38.1%, correlate the term "nurse" with the role of the physician's assistant, whereas only 49.5% associate it with a true professional functioning within their field of work. Furthermore, 73.7% study participants perceive the nursing profession as being desirable for men. Upon examining the perspectives of the general population and patients, statistically significant differences emerged in terms of their perceptions regarding the perceived work scope (p < .001) and the level of sufficient educational attainment (p < .001) of nursing professionals. Conclusion: The analysis uncovers varying perceptions of the nursing profession in the Republic of Croatia, as well as evolving perceptions of gender diversity within nursing roles. Differing viewpoints between the general population and patients in this study emphasize the need for tailored education and communication initiatives to improve the image of nursing.
Croatian Translation and Validation of the Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (PSNCQQ)

Abstract:Patient satisfaction is a crucial measure of the quality of healthcare, especially with regard to nursing services in hospital settings. Understanding and increasing patient satisfaction with nursing care is critical to improving overall healthcare and ensuring positive patient experiences during their hospital stay. The aim of this research was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Croatian version of the Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire (PSNCQQ), test the reliability and validity of the tool after translation, and investigate differences in patient satisfaction based on demographic variables, as well as their contribution to satisfaction with the quality of nursing care. After translation and adaptation, the Croatian version of the PSNCQQ was applied to 350 hospitalized patients (average age 51.19 years (range: 18–87)), of whom 194 (55.4%) were men and 156 (44.6%) were women. The results showed high internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.977) and confirmed the one-factor structure of the questionnaire, explaining 70.64% of the total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the unidimensional model, showing strong fit indices (χ2 = 583.047, df = 149, p < 0.001, GFI = 0.861, AGFI = 0.818, NFI = 0.936, TLI = 0.946, CFI = 0.955, RMSEA = 0.080, PCLOSE < 0.001). In conclusion, the validation of the PSNCQQ in the Croatian language increases resources for evaluating and improving the quality of nursing care. This research lays the foundation for future studies and practical applications aimed at improving patient satisfaction and nursing care outcomes in Croatia, but there are also limitations to this study, including its one-institution scope, the possible influence of factors outside the current treatment on satisfaction, and the lack of comparison with objective clinical indicators.

Abstract:Introduction. Patient safety during hospitalisation is one of the biggest concerns for hospitals worldwide and one obligation of all medical professionals is to create a safe environment for patients and prevent accidents. Approximately 50% of adverse events can be prevented with a systematic approach. Aim. This study aimed to examine the underlying dimensions and psychometric properties of the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture questionnaire in Croatian hospital settings, and to compare the results with the original questionnaire from the United States of America. Methods. The sample consisted of 438 nurses from four Croatian university hospitals. All participants signed an informed consent document, and the questionnaires were provided to the nurses in their units by the head nurses of their departments. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS 25.0. Bartlett's test of sphericity and the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) indicator were performed with Cronbach’s alpha test and sample standard deviation. Results. All factors explain the total of 59% of variance of the measured questionnaire. Additionally, the reliability of the entire questionnaire was determined by using the internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach’s alpha) on the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture with 12 of 0.88 particles, which is high internal consistency reliability. Our results show that the particles that make up the questionnaire are very homogeneous according to their object of measurement. Conclusion. The results of our study found that the survey can be applied to Croatian settings and used in hospitals. We also believe that more research on this topic is needed and is crucial for improving patient safety in hospitals. It is necessary to emphasize continuous education of nurses regarding patient safety in hospitals.
Short Form of Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire for Adults: Psychometric Properties of Serbian Version

Abstract:Mental health literacy (MHL) has been widely explored by researchers who focus on youth mental health. However, there is little data related to the validity and reliability of the tools for the assessment of MHL constructs. The present study aimed to adapt the short version of Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire for young adults in Serbian sample and examine its psychometric properties. Translation and adaptation of items were performed using the following procedures: item are translated from English or Serbian by a bilingual translator and using a think-aloud procedure, back-translation, semantic comparison of the translation, and analysis of the translated version by the original version of the manuscript. The sample consisted of 344 participants aged 17 to 25 years, which is in accordance with the recommended number of participants needed for quantitative instrument validation studies. Confirmatory factor, internal consistency, and external validity analyses were performed. The results supported the validity of a shorter version of the questionnaire (MHLq-SVa), composed of 16 items that fit with four previously defined MHL dimensions (knowledge, beliefs, help-seeking intentions, and self-help strategies). Internal consistency, between-factor correlations, and correlations with other relevant mental health constructs further supported the adequacy of the instrument's psychometric properties. We recommend the MHLq-SVa as valid and reliable measure for assessing MHL in young adults and encourage further exploration at more diverse and representative samples.
The importance of physical appearance and actual body figure of women in Serbia in the contemporary sociocultural environment

Abstract:In a social environment that emphasizes the importance of physical appearance and women is valued based on body appearance and sexuality, it raises the question of the relationship it establishes towards its own body. The work was intended to determine the attitude of respondents towards the importance attached to the physical appearance of the female body in the modern socio-cultural context and the degree of (dis)satisfaction with its own body. The questionnaire consists of a Scala attitude towards ?good? physical appearance (DFI scale), a seven-point Liqueur-type scale, and the Photography Figure Rating Scale (PFRS), which contains ten figures with different body mass index (BMI), from skinny to obese female bodies, filled out is by 462 respondents. The attitude towards physical appearance was not directly reflected in body dissatisfaction (there is no connection between these two constructs), but social ideals of beauty (thin ideal), which are transmitted through numerous sociocultural channels, are internalized. Respondents show a tendency to choose a figure (ideal) from BMI categories with insufficient weight. In general, the results show that the importance attached to the physical appearance of a woman's body is largely determined by the value and psychological component, and that respondents have internalized to some extent social standards that promote slender and thin bodies.

Abstract:Background: Approximately 2.3 million female breast cancer cases were identified globally in 2020, resulting in 685,000 fatalities among women. Serbia too experiences a high breast cancer burden. Effective reduction of breast cancer incidence and mortality necessitates strategic measures encompassing the implementation of cost-effective screening technology. However, various impediments to screening implementation persist. We aimed to estimate the impact of socioeconomic factors on breast cancer screening in Serbia. Methods: Data from the 2019 National Health Survey of the population of Serbia was. The research was a descriptive, cross-sectional analytical study by design, on a representative sample of the population of Serbia. Data from women aged 15+ yr were used to examine the demographic and socioeconomic factors associated with breast cancer screening inequalities. Results: In Serbia the age group of women who predominantly participated in organized breast cancer screening (39.5%) were the ones aged 65+ yr. Women with a secondary education were 2.1x more likely to undergo a screening exam voluntarily (57.5%), compared to women with a higher education background (26.6%). When considering marital and financial circumstances, married/unmarried women from an affluent financial category exhibited a notably higher frequency of self-initiating a mammography (73% and 48.5%) in comparison to those financially struggling (27.6%). Conclusion: Strong support is imperative for countries to establish prevention and early detection programs for cancer.

Fresh and frozen-thawed fetal ovaries were transplanted orthotopically (to the bursal cavity) to either bilaterally or unilaterally ovariectomized adult female recipients. Fresh fetal ovaries were also transplanted heterotopically (under the kidney capsule) to intact, bilaterally or unilaterally ovariectomized adult females. Transplantation of fetal ovaries to bilaterally ovariectomized adult recipients resulted in restoration of cyclic activity within 20.5 +/- 4.7 (mean +/- SEM) days or 23.4 +/- 0.8 days in orthotopic and heterotopic groups, respectively. Developing follicles and corpora lutea were observed within 4 weeks after transplantation of fetal ovaries to heterotopic sites and within 6 weeks after transplantation to orthotopic sites. After orthotopic transplantation, 33% of the recipients became pregnant. Orthotopic or heterotopic transplantation to intact of unilaterally ovariectomized recipients resulted in quiescence of the fetal ovary. After cryopreservation, transplantation of fetal ovaries to bilaterally ovariectomized recipients resulted in restoration of cyclic activity within 19.3 +/- 2.1 days and 23.4 +/- 5.1 days after transplantation in slow thaw and fast thaw groups, respectively. Fertility was restored to 86% of fast thawed and 25% of slow thawed fetal ovary transplants to bilaterally ovariectomized adult recipients. No ovarian tissue was observed on the side of the fetal graft in unilaterally ovariectomized recipients that received frozen-thawed fetal ovaries. These results demonstrate that cryopreserved fetal ovarian tissue can be transplanted to adult recipients with subsequent restoration of fertility and that this process is dependent on the absence of the ovaries of the recipients.
Socioeconomic inequality as a predictor of unmet health needs in the older adult population of Serbia

Abstract:Objectives The aim of this paper is to assess the relationship between demographic and socioeconomic predictors and the unmet health needs of the older adult population in Serbia. Materials and methods The study is part of the Population Health Survey of Serbia, which was conducted in the period from October to December 2019 by the Institute for Public Health of Serbia “Dr. Milan Jovanović Batut” and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Serbia. The research was conducted on a representative sample of Serbian residents in the form of a cross-sectional study. For the purposes of this research study, data on senior citizens, aged 65 and older, were used. Results Multivariate regression analysis of demographic characteristics that showed statistical significance in the univariate model as a whole explains between 4.2% (Cox & Snell R Square) and 5.9% (Nagelkerke R Square) of the variance of unmet health needs and correctly classifies 66.3% cases. Statistically significant demographic predictors were the region where the respondents live, level of education, and material condition. The results of the research show that the most dominant predictors of the unmet health needs of the older adult population are related to socioeconomic inequalities, financial reasons, and predictors related to the inaccessibility of health care. Conclusion The results suggest that individual socioeconomic predictors have a great influence on the emergence of unmet health needs of the older adult population in Serbia. Every third older adult resident did not receive the necessary health care, most often due to financial constraints.

Development of a novel instrument for assessing intentional non-adherence to official medical recommendations (iNAR-12): a sequential mixed-methods study in Serbia

Abstract:Objectives We aimed to (1) develop a novel instrument, suitable for the general population, capturing intentional non-adherence (iNAR), consisting of non-adherence to prescribed therapy, self-medication and avoidance of seeking medical treatment; (2) differentiate it from other forms of non-adherence, for example, smoking; and (3) relate iNAR to patient-related factors, such as sociodemographics, health status and endorsement of irrational beliefs (conspiratorial thinking and superstitions) and to healthcare-related beliefs and experiences ((mis)trust and negative experiences with the healthcare system, normalisation of patient passivity). Design To generate iNAR items, we employed a focus group with medical doctors, supplemented it with a literature search and invited a public health expert to refine it further. We examined the internal structure and predictors of iNAR in an observational study. Setting Data were collected online using snowball sampling and social networks. Participants After excluding those who failed one or more out of three attention checks, the final sample size was n=583 adult Serbian citizens, 74.4% female, mean age 39.01 years (SD=12.10). Primary and secondary outcome measures The primary, planned outcome is the iNAR Questionnaire, while smoking was used for comparison purposes. Results Factor analysis yielded a one-factor solution, and the final 12-item iNAR Questionnaire had satisfactory internal reliability (alpha=0.72). Health condition and healthcare-related variables accounted for 14% of the variance of iNAR behaviours, whereas sociodemographics and irrational beliefs did not additionally contribute. Conclusions We constructed a brief yet comprehensive measure of iNAR behaviours and related them to health and sociodemographic variables and irrational beliefs. The findings suggest that public health interventions should attempt to improve patients' experiences with the system and build trust with their healthcare practitioners rather than aim at specific demographic groups or at correcting patients' unfounded beliefs. Abstract:We report findings from a validation study of the translated and culturally adapted Serbian version of Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), for a sample of anesthesiologists working in the tertiary healthcare. The results showed the sufficient overall reliability (Cronbach’s α = 0.72) of the scores (items 1–22). The results of Bartlett’s test of sphericity ( χ 2 = 1983.75, df = 231, p < 0.001 ) and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy (0.866) provided solid justification for factor analysis. In order to increase sensitivity of this questionnaire, we performed unfitted factor analysis model (eigenvalue greater than 1) which enabled us to extract the most suitable factor structure for our study instrument. The exploratory factor analysis model revealed five factors with eigenvalues greater than 1.0, explaining 62.0% of cumulative variance. Velicer’s MAP test has supported five-factor model with the smallest average squared correlation of 0,184. This study indicated that Serbian version of the MBI-HSS is a reliable and valid instrument to measure burnout among a population of anesthesiologists. Results confirmed strong psychometric characteristics of the study instrument, with recommendations for interpretation of two new factors that may be unique to the Serbian version of the MBI-HSS.
Sexuality attitudes and beliefs survey (SABS): validation of the instrument for the polish nursing and midwifery students

Abstract:The aim of the study is to create a Polish version of the sexuality attitudes and beliefs survey (SABS), to assess its cultural adaptation and psychometric properties and to utilize it to enable a cross-sectional study of the sexual attitudes and beliefs among Poland's nursing and midwifery students. Non-random network sampling and the adapted SABS v. PL scale were employed for the latter purpose. A total of 570 nursing and midwifery students from two Polish universities completed the questionnaire. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was utilized to measure the internal consistency of the SABS scale, while exploratory factor analysis (EFA) was employed to determine its construct validity. The factors that most affect respondents' sexual attitudes and beliefs were identified through a stepwise multiple regression method and through an econometric model. An exploratory factor analysis of the SABS v. PL scale revealed an adequate fit and confirmed the 4-factor model. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient for SABS v. PL amounted to: α = 0.66. The study's student population had a mean SABS score of 41.65 ± 5.63, while the mean SABS item score varied between 2.55 ± 1.27 and 4.35 ± 1.07. The study's results show that the SABS v. PL questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument. The work revealed that Polish nursing and midwifery students have attitudes and beliefs which negatively impact their ability to evaluate a person's sexual health concerns and provide relevant health counselling.

Health Promoting Behaviors among Reproductive Age Women in Serbia: The Results from a National Health Survey

Abstract:Background: Certain lifestyle characteristics, such as dietary patterns, physical activity, and maintenance of recommended body weight, low-risk alcohol consumption and non-smoking are associated with the lower likelihood for the development of chronic-non communicable disease in the general population. These lifestyles are called health promoting behaviors (HPBs). We aimed to examine the prevalence of the HPBs among the women of reproductive age in Serbia and the factors associated with the compliance with four or more of these behaviors. Methods: The study was the secondary analysis of the data from the National Health survey in Serbia from 2019 that examined social, health status, mental health (using PHQ-8) and lifestyle characteristics of the general population in Serbia. Results: The prevalence of compliance with four or more HPBs was 22%. Among the HPBs the most frequent was a non-risky alcohol consumption reported by 2585 participants (99.2%), followed by normal weight (2018-69.2%) and non-smoking (1469-69%), daily fruit and vegetables intake (969-33.2%) and sufficient aerobic PA (216-7.9%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis with four or more HPBs as an outcome variable showed that the association of compliance with four or more HPBs with tertiary education (OR 1.91, 95% CI: 1.32-2.76) use of prescription medications (OR: 0.62, 95% CI: 0.44-0.87) and score on PHQ-8 (OR: 0.88, 95% CI: 0.79-0.98). Conclusion: There is a need for deeper promotion of health-related behaviors among all educational and vocational groups, including health promotion activities at the primary health care level, which is available to the entire population.
