Abstract:Researchers have shown considerable interest in the environmentally friendly synthesis of several nanoparticles particularly metal nano particles due to their multifaceted applications. The target of the current research includes the synthesis of nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO-NPs) through the green route using the bark extract from Acacia Nilotica , and analyzed their chemical and surface morphological features using XRD, SEM, EDX, IR, UV–vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy. In addition, the corrosion inhibition ability and antimicrobial activity of the extract were also studied. The XRD analysis indicated that the NiO exist in the form of nanoparticles. It showed the formation of pure cubic NiO-NP with a prominent peak at 43.28° reflected from the plane (200). The crystallite size was found to be 15.83 nm. The SEM micrographs revealed that NiO-NPs appeared to be a bulk cluster-like structure on their surface.The EDX analysis displayed the presence of Ni and oxygen atoms. The photoluminescence spectrum demonstrated that the green synthesized metal oxide nanoparticles have a modified emission band due to the presence of oxygen deficiencies and induced surface imperfections. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the association of peaks with the C–H and Ni–O bonds. The UV–vis study showed a maximum absorption at 264 nm. A study on the inhibition efficiency towards microbes confirmed that the prepared NiO-NPs have a good inhibition against selected microbes such as S. aureus , E. coli , Candida albicans , A. Niger . The mass loss system showed restraint 93.68 % effectiveness in the mild steel, and the electrochemical study supported the formation of a defensive protective layer on the cathodic locales of the carbon steel surface inhibiting corrosion.

Abstract:<p>Biological methods for the synthesis of nanomaterials have been suggested as an ecofriendly alternative for chemical and physical methods. The synthesis of Nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO NPs) is reported in this paper using <em>Solanum trilobatum</em> leaf extract as the fuel and nickel nitrate as the precursor through hot plate combustion method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) studies exhibited a face centered cubic phase with high crytallinity and an average crystallite size of 23.21 nm. A cylindrical and rod like surface morphology was confirmed from morphological studies, and the average particle size calculated from High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM) matches well with XRD results. The NiO formation with high purity phase was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy were used to study the optical properties, where a band gap of 3.59 eV and intense emission peaks near UV and visible region was observed. Magnetization studies of the synthesized nanomaterial exhibited ferromagnetic nature. The as- synthesized NiO nanomaterial was investigated towards A549 cell culture for cytotoxic activity, antibacterial activity against various gram positive and gram negative bacterial pathogens and Photocatalytic degradation (PCD) of 4-Chlorophenol (4-CP), an effective endocrine disrupting chemical. The synthesized NiO nanoparticles exhibited superior performance towards A549 cells and effective antibacterial activity against gram positive pathogens than gram negative pathogens. It also proved to be a photo catalytically active material through effective degradation of 4-Chlorophenol under UV light, which is well evident from TOC experimental results.</p>

Abstract:Multifunctional CuMn:NiO NPs synthesized through green methods exhibit potent antimicrobial, antifungal, and anticancer properties. Their diverse applications in healthcare mark a promising advancement in nanoparticle‐based therapeutics. In recent years, the development of dual dopant‐based nanoparticles (NPs) has gained significant attention as they possess exceptional physico‐chemical and biomedical properties, making them potential candidates for antimicrobial and anticancer uses. In this research, we successfully synthesized nickel oxide (NiO) and copper, manganese‐doped NiO (CuMn:NiO) NPs using a green synthesis method. The synthesis process involved Trigonella foenum‐graecum (T.f.graecum) leaves extract as a nucleating agent. The synthesized nanoparticles were confirmed by various physico‐chemical studies. Based on X‐ray diffraction analysis, the median size was determined as 36 nm for NiO and 32 nm for CuMn:NiO NPs. The antibacterial study revealed that CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited a higher zone of inhibition in contrast to both Gram‐positive (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus megaterium) and Gram‐negative bacteria (Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Vibrio cholerae) compared with NiO NPs and commercial amoxicillin. The antifungal studies conducted against Candida albicans demonstrated that CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited enhanced efficacy in comparison to NiO NPs. In vitro testing against human breast cancer cells (MCF‐7) demonstrated the anticancer potential of NiO and CuMn:NiO NPs, supported by IC50 concentrations of 11 and 9 μg/mL, respectively. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of NiO and CuMn:NiO NPs exhibited a green emission at 508 and 518 nm, respectively, which indicated the generation of active free radicals by the NPs. These findings suggest that CuMn:NiO NPs hold promise in the healthcare industry.

Abstract:In the present study, economically viable NiO nanoparticles were produced by biogenic preparation using stevia leaf broth and their in-vitro antioxidant and antimicrobial activities were evaluated. The properties of the prepared NiO nanoparticles were confirmed by analytical techniques such as Ultraviolet-Visible (UV-Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), FE-SEM, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analyses. Morphological studies using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the size of synthesized nanoparticles ranged from 20 to 50 nm, most of which were spherical and few of which were agglomerated. The role of the biological moieties, which reduce and cap the nanoparticles, was studied using FTIR analysis. The prepared nanoparticles strongly inhibited gram-negative bacteria, which is a camper with gram-positive bacteria and fungi. Furthermore, it performs an effective in-vitro activity through α,α-diphenyl-β-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) reduction. Thus, it can be concluded that the effective and easy green synthesis process used for NiO nanoparticles provides potential antimicrobial agents against multidrug-resistant microbes.

Abstract:The greatest challenge of the current generation and generations to come is antimicrobial resistance, as different pathogenic bacteria have continuously evolved to become resistant to even the most recently synthesized antibiotics such as carbapenems. Resistance to carbapenems limits the therapeutic options of MDR infections as they are the only safe and effective drugs recommended to treat such infections. This scenario has complicated treatment outcomes, even to the commonest bacterial infections. Repeated attempts to develop other approaches have been made. The most promising novel therapeutic option is the use of nanomaterials as antimicrobial agents. Thus, this study examined the efficacy of Camellia sinensis extract (CSE) and Prunus africana bark extract (PAE) green synthesized Copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) against carbapenem-resistant bacteria. Furthermore, the photocatalytic and antioxidant activities of CuONPs were evaluated to determine the potential of using them in a wide range of applications. CuONPs were biosynthesized by CSE and PAE. UV vis spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) were used to characterize the nanoparticles. CuONPs susceptibility tests were carried out by the agar well diffusion method. The photocatalytic and antioxidant activities of the CuONPs were determined by the methylene blue and DPPH free radical scavenging assays, respectively. UV vis absorbance spectra registered surface plasmon resonance peaks between 272 and 286 nm, confirming the presence of CuONPs. The XRD array had nine strong peaks at 2θ values typical of CuONPs. FTIR spectra exhibited bands associated with organic functional groups confirming capping and functionalization of the CuONPs by the phytochemicals. DLS analysis registered a net zeta potential of +12.5 mV. SEM analysis revealed that the nanoparticles were spherical and clustered with a mean diameter of 6 nm. Phytosynthesized CuONPs exhibited the highest growth suppression zones of 30 mm with MIC ranging from 30 to 125 μg/ml against MDR bacteria. Furthermore, the CuONPs achieved a methylene blue dye photocatalysis degradation efficiency of 85.5% and a free radical scavenging activity of 28.8%. PAE and CSE successfully bio-reduced copper ions to the nanoscale level with potent antimicrobial, photocatalysis, and antioxidant activities.

They have been synthesized using chemical and physical techniques that often need toxic chemicals. These toxic chemicals cannot easily be removed from the nanoparticle's surface, make them less biocompatible, and limit their biological applications. Instead, plants based green synthesis of nanoparticles uses phytomolecules as reducing and capping agents. These phytomolecules are biologically active with no or less toxic effects. Materials and Methods: Phytomolecules-coated NiO nanoparticles were synthesized employing a green route using Abutilon indicum leaf extract. For comparative study, we also have synthesized NiO nanoparticles using the co-precipitation method. Synthesized nanoparticles were successfully characterized using different spectroscopic techniques. The synthesized nanoparticles were evaluated for antibacterial activity with agar well diffusion assay against different bacteria compared to standard drug and plant extract. They are also examined for anticancer potential using MTT assay against HeLa cancer cells, and further, their antioxidant potential was determined using DPPH assay. Biocompatibility of the synthesized nanoparticles was assessed against fibroblast cells. Results: Phytomolecules-coated NiO nanoparticles were demonstrated superior antibacterial and anticancer performance against bacteria ( E. coli, B. bronchiseptica, B. subtilis , and S. aureus ) by presenting highest zone of inhibitions (18 ± 0.58 mm, 21 ± 0.45 mm, 22 ± 0.32 mm, and 23 ± 0.77 mm) and HeLa cancer cells by exhibiting the least cell viability percentage (51.74 ± 0.35%) compared to plant extract and chemically synthesized NiO nanoparticles but were comparable to standard antibiotic and anticancer drugs, respectively. Phytomolecules-coated NiO nanoparticles were also demonstrated excellent antioxidant activity (79.87 ± 0.43% DPPH inhibition) and biocompatibility (> 90% cell viability) with fibroblast cells. Conclusion: Nanoparticle synthesis using the Abutilon indicum leaf extract is an efficient and economical method, produces biocompatible and more biologically active nanoparticles, which can be an excellent candidate for therapeutic applications. Abstract:Presently, the utilization of nanomaterials has evolved as an appealing alternative for ever-changing healthcare obstacles due to their distinctive features and multifunctional applications. This work aimed to fabricate and analyze novel NiO/Ni 2 O 3 nanoparticles (NPs) using Sargassum tentorium extracts and investigate their antioxidant and anticancer potentials. Diverse analytical instrumental tools were applied to explore NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs, including UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UVDRS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), high-resolution scanning electron microscopy (HRTEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyses. HRTEM images revealed mostly quasi-spherical and wire-shaped NPs with average 97 and 87 nm sizes for NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs. Afterward, the biological properties of the biologically manufactured NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs were explored. This work assessed the anticancer potential of as-fabricated NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs utilizing the MTT assay. The experiment assessed cell viability at doses ranging from 7.81 to 500 μg/mL during a 24 h period for the breast cancer cell line (MCF-7). The study outcomes demonstrate a concentration-dependent effect of fabricated NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs on MCF-7 cells. The inhibition of MCF-7 cells increases with the concentration of NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs, achieving an IC 50 value of 883.4 μg/mL in 24 h. Furthermore, the antioxidant potency of NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs was examined via a free radical scavenging ABTS and DPPH assay. At a concentration of 50 μg/mL, NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs also exhibited 74.71% ABTS scavenging and 71.62% DPPH scavenging inhibition, respectively. In conclusion, NiO/Ni 2 O 3 NPs manufactured via Sargassum tenerrimum extracts could be promising candidates for further biomedical applications.

Abstract:In the present work, we report the biosynthesis of Nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles using Senna auriculata aqueous flower extract and their evaluated to the photocatalyst and antimicrobial activities. The synthesized nanoparticles were analysed using UV–Visible (UV–Vis), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), Photoluminescence (PL), High resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Zeta potential (ZE) and Surface area analysis. The XRD shows the obtained peaks are indexed to the crystalline planes (111), (200), (220), (311) and (222) confirmed that the NiO nanoparticles possessed a good crystalline nature. UV–Vis confirmed that NiO nanoparticles had a direct bandgap at 3.25 eV. DLS analysis and ZE values validated the stability of NiO nanoparticles (53 nm and − 24 mV). HR-TEM analysis revealed that the synthesized NiO nanoparticles had a spherical structure with uniform distribution along the surface. The FT-IR analyses show that the surface of synthesized nanoparticles acts as a reducing and stabilising agent for proteins, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups. The antibacterial activities of biosynthesized NiO nanoparticles are greater against Gram-negative (Escherichia coli) than the Gram-positive microorganism. The catalyst activity of synthesized nanoparticles regarding methylene blue (MB) dye degradation under direct visible light irradiation was studied. The degradation effectiveness against MB dye was found to be 97% for 90 min. Overall, these studies show that Senna auriculata is an effective sell being planted and has the highest probability of being used in the design and development of nanoparticles for environmental pollution and human health.

Synthesis of Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles using Extract of Cynodon dactylon and Assessment of their Biological Activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli

Abstract:Nanotechnology is a groundbreaking technology that that has been widely applied in creating materials which are useful in various fields. It's important to maintain eco-friendly approaches for synthesis of nanoparticles by diversifying the substrate sources. In this study, the researchers used aqueous extract of Cynodon dactylon to synthesize zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs). Quantitative phytochemical analysis of the extract showed high concentrations of alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, and phenolic compounds. In contrast, moderate concentrations of tannins, oils, and fats, and low concentrations of phlorotannins, saponin, triterpenoids, and cardiac glycosides were found. Sterols, anthraquinone glycosides, gums, and mucilages were not detected in the extract. The synthesized ZnONPs showed absorbance ranging from 293 nm to 336 nm, with a peak at 307 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy revealed that the surface of the ZnONPs contained alcohol (intermolecular bonded), alkyne, amine salt, alkane, alkyne, aromatic compounds, conjugated alkene, amine, nitro compound, sulfonyl chloride, alkylaryl ether, and sulfoxide. Dynamic light scatering (DLS) analysis of the ZnONPs showed that its average size was 35.34±1.64 nm, and the polydispersity index was 0.6335. Spectrum of X ray diffraction indicated that peaks formed at 2θ and their corresponding orientation planes are 31.92o (100), 34.62o (002), 36.44o (101), 47.64o (102), 56.84o (110), 63.3o (200), and 68.16o (112). Transmission electron micrograph revealed the spherical shape, and nonuniform sizes of ZnONPs, which ranged from 0.52 nm to 8.32 nm. Antibacterial analysis of biosynthesized ZnONPs recorded 16±3.2 mm and 6.0±2.2 mm; 6.7±2.1 mm and 4.33±1.3 mm, 0.0±0.0 mm and 1.0±1.41 mm, against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, at 53.3 mg/mL, 26.7 mg/mL and 13.3 mg/ml concentrations, respectively. At sub-inhibitory concentrations, biosynthesized ZnONPs demonstrated effective dose-dependent antibiofilm formation activity against E. coli and S. aureus. Consequently, extract of Cynodon dactylon is suitable for biosynthesis of ZnONPs with effective antibacterial and antibiofilm formation activities.

Abstract:Objectives The current study focused on the green synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) using Salvia officinalis leaf extract, aiming to control nosocomial infections caused by drug-resistant bacterial pathogens. The nanoparticles were characterized and evaluated for antibacterial effectiveness. Methods The disc diffusion assay was utilized to determine the synergistic antibacterial efficiency of the biogenic IONPs against three nosocomial bacterial pathogens namely, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginos a strains. Results and conclusion The change of color of ferric nitrate solution from orange to black color after addition of the extract preliminary indicated the formation of biogenic IONPs. The phytosynthesized IONPs were characterized using UV–Vis spectroscopy indicating the formation of a broad band at 349 nm. Moreover, X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed the formation of diffraction peaks positioned at 2 theta degrees of 24.80°, 33.41°, 35.03°, 41.28°, 49.15°, 53.41°, 57.37°, 62.40° and 64.31°, corresponding to lattice planes of (0 1 2), (1 0 4), (1 1 0), (2 0 2), (0 2 4), (1 1 6), (2 1 4) and (3 0 0), respectively. The phytosynthesized nanoparticles revealed a high antibacterial activity against the concerned pathogens at the concentration of 200 μg/disc with relative inhibitory zones of 21.14 ± 0.16, 17.26 ± 0.26, and 20.56 ± 0.62 mm, respectively against E. coli, P. aeruginosa and MRSA strains. The biogenic IONPs revealed the highest synergistic activity with tigecycline antibiotic against E. coli followed by MRSA and P. aeruginosa strains with relative increase in fold of inhibition values (IFA) of 1.79, 1.29 and 0.93, respectively. In conclusion, the water extract of S. officinalis facilitated the green fabrication of IONPs with distinctive physicochemical properties and synergistic antibacterial activity against the tested nosocomial bacterial pathogens.

Abstract:In the present stud, NiO–NPs have been synthesized via the sol–gel method and using okra plant extract as a reducing and limiting agent. The optical, photocatalytic, structural and magnetic properties of the NiO–NPs have been investigated via the usage of FTIR, UV–Vis, XRD, FESEM, EDX, VSM, and TGA/DTA. The results of the achieved XRD and FT-IR analyses have confirmed the formation of pure and crystalline NiO–NPs. The thermal behavior of the composition has been studied by the utilization of TGA/DTA results. Moreover, the synthesized NiO–NPs have illustrated a super-paramagnetic behavior throughout the performance of magnetic studies by the means of VSM procedure. Cell cytotoxicity investigation has been carried put on multiple tumor cells by the MTT method, while the antimicrobial studies have displayed that NiO–NPs activity for gram-positive bacteria species seems to be more apparent than the gram-negative bacteria species. Photocatalytic degradation researches have confirmed the consistency of its effects with complete degradation of MB in pH = 11, under optimal conditions. Therefore, we propose a green protocol for the combination of effective biological agents with high purity and crystallinity along with reduced particle size, which stands as beneficial factors to be employed in a variety of applications and environments.

Abstract:We attempted to synthesize nickel oxide nanoparticles (NiO-NPs) utilizing waste Arachis hypogaea (peanut) shell extract and studied their structural, morphological, and biological performance for biomedical applications. The green engineered NiO-NPs possessed a face-centered cubic structure with an average particle size of 20 nm in highly crystalline form. NiO-NPs were shown to have an optical resonance peak at 327 nm with 3 eV as the optical band gap according to the UV–visible spectra, and the stretching band between Ni–O were evidenced from the FTIR and Raman spectrum. Utilizing green approach the stable nanoparticles were obtained with average particle size of 31 nm from SEM analysis; zeta potential value of −17.6 mV, and PDI as 0.68, revealed the formation of spherical nanoparticles with distinct morphologies without aggregation. XPS analysis confirmed the oxidation states of the elements Ni (2p) and O (1s). This approach may help to increase the surface area, increasing the possibility of nanoparticles interacting with bacterial cells. Furthermore, the presence of nickel and the oxygen oxidation state were confirmed by XPS. Proteus vulgaris , Streptococcus oralis , Bacillus subtilis , and Escherichia coli were found to be susceptible to the antibacterial action of the produced NiO-NPs, with a maximal zone of inhibition of 10.25 mm at 500 μg/ml for P. vulgaris . For P. vulgaris and E. coli , the minimum inhibitory concentrations of NiO were 5.36 and 12.55 %, respectively, at 31.25 μg mL −1 . We hereby claim that green engineered NiO NPs decorated with A. hypogaea shell extract have great potential for pharmaceutical and biomedical applications.

Abstract:Background: Green synthesized nanoparticles (NPs) have gained increasing popularity in recent times due to their broad spectrum of antimicrobial properties. This study aimed to develop a phytofabrication approach for producing cuprous (Cu2O) and cupric oxide (CuO) NPs using a simple, non-hazardous process and to examine their antimicrobial properties. Methods: The synthesis employed Bidens pilosa plant extract as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent, alongside copper chloride dihydrate as the precursor. The biosynthesized NPs were characterized through various techniques, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet–visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Results: XRD analysis confirmed that the synthesized CuO and Cu2O NPs exhibited a high degree of crystallinity, with crystal structures corresponding to monoclinic and face-centered cubic systems. SEM images revealed that the NPs displayed distinct spherical and sponge-like morphologies. EDS analysis further validated the purity of the synthesized CuO NPs. The antimicrobial activity of the CuO and Cu2O NPs was tested against various pathogenic bacterial strains, including Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Bacillus cereus, with the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) used to gauge their effectiveness. Conclusions: The results showed that the phytosynthesized NPs had promising antibacterial properties, particularly the Cu2O NPs, which, with a larger crystal size of 68.19 nm, demonstrated significant inhibitory effects across all tested bacterial species. These findings suggest the potential of CuO and Cu2O NPs as effective antimicrobial agents produced via green synthesis.

Abstract:Abstract Green synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) is a more sustainable, safe, and environmentally friendly method. This study aimed to investigate the synthesis procedure of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) using the seed extract of Nigella sativa ( N. sativa ) as a strong reducing agent and to estimate their cytotoxic and antibacterial properties. The obtained IONPs were characterized by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential (ZP), and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy analyses. The cytotoxicity of the biosynthesized IONPs was demonstrated by the MTT on a Vero cell line. Furthermore, the antibacterial activity of the fabricated biosynthesis metal oxide NPs was tested on Escherichia coli ( E. coli ) (ATCC 35218) and Staphylococcus aureus ( S. aureus ) (ATCC 29213) bacterial strains using the Kirby–Bauer disk diffusion method. This study showed the formation of a well-dispersed, highly stable (ZP ζ = −51.8 mV) IO NPs with an average diameter of about 31.45 nm. Moreover, the biosynthetic NPs (IONPs) exhibited a significantly noncytotoxic effect when analyzed by the MTT assay. The biosynthetic NPs (NS-IONPs) exhibited excellent antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus , where the inhibition zones were 12.34 ± 0.58 and 11.52 ± 0.58, respectively.

Its synthesis from green chemistry principles is gaining importance as next-generation antibiotics due to its simplicity, eco-friendliness, and cost-effectiveness. In the present study, CuO nanorods (CuO NRs) were synthesized from the aqueous fruit extract of Momordica charantia and characterized using different analytical techniques. Further, the biomedical therapeutic potential was evaluated against multi-drug resistant microbial strains. Materials and Methods: To synthesize CuO NRs, 0.1M of CuSO 4 .5H 2 O solution was added to aqueous extract of Momordica charantia in a 1:3 (v/v) ratio (pH=11) and heated at 50°C followed by washing and drying. The synthesized CuO NRs were subjected to characterization using different analytical techniques such as UV visible spectroscopy, zeta sizer equipped with zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Further, the application as a biomedical therapeutic potential was evaluated in vitro using well diffusion method against eleven multidrug-resistant clinical bacterial strains, a fungus- Trichophyton rubrum and in ovo against the R 2 B virus using haemagglutination (HA) test. Results: Characterization was preliminarily done by the spectral study that confirms the absorbance band at 245nm. FTIR analysis at 628 cm − 1 peak identified copper oxide vibration. SEM analysis revealed agglomerated particle clusters. However, with TEM clear nanorods of average diameter of 61.48 ± 2 nm were observed. EDAX confirmed CuO formation while XRD showed a typical monoclinic structure with 6 nm crystallite size. Biological screening of CuO NRs showed significant results against both in vitro and in ovo methods. Significant inhibitory activity (p< 0.0001) was noted against most of the resistant human pathogenic strains including both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The highest efficacy was observed against Bacillus cereus with a 31.66 mm zone of inhibition. Besides, the therapeutic potential of CuO NRs against Corynebacterium xerosis, Streptococcus viridians and R 2 B strain of Newcastle disease is reported for the first time. Conclusion: Based on the present results, it could be expected that green synthesized CuO NRs would find potential applications in the field of nanomedicine. Abstract:Marine microorganisms have been demonstrated to be an important source for bioactive molecules. In this paper we report the synthesis of Ni nanoparticles (NiSNPs) used as reducing and capping agents for five bacterial strains isolated from an Antarctic marine consortium: Marinomonas sp. ef1, Rhodococcus sp. ef1, Pseudomonas sp. ef1, Brevundimonas sp. ef1, and Bacillus sp. ef1. The NiSNPs were characterized by Ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic analysis. The maximum absorbances in the UV–Vis spectra were in the range of 374 nm to 422 nm, corresponding to the Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of Nickel. DLS revealed NiSNPs with sizes between 40 and 45 nm. All NiSNPs were polycrystalline with a face-centered cubic lattice, as revealed by XRD analyses. The NiSNPs zeta potential values were highly negative. TEM analysis showed that the NiSNPs were either spherical or rod shaped, well segregated, and with a size between 20 and 50 nm. The FTIR spectra revealed peaks of amino acid and protein binding to the NiSNPs. Finally, all the NiSNPs possess significant antimicrobial activity, which may play an important role in the management of infectious diseases affecting human health.
