Abstract:In this study, an eco-friendly and novel hydrogel based on a crosslinked polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), iota carrageenan (IC) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) scaffold, containing a large amount (10-50 wt%) of nanoscale palm fronds (NPF) as additives, for water purification was demonstrated. A life cycle assessment (LCA) findings on NPF as biomass waste incorporated into PVA_PVP_IC polymer matrix was presented, and the results highlight the necessity of focused actions to reduce environmental impact and support the palm waste utilization in a sustainable manner. The multicomponent nanocomposite hydrogels were examined as adsorbents in a system work in batches for methylene blue (MB) and paracetamol (PCT) removal. The results show that, the presence of NPF, which dispersed in the hydrogel PVA_PVP_IC scaffolds containing both covalent and non-covalent cross-linking bonds, greatly enhanced the MB and PCT adsorption efficiency. A response surface methodology (RSM) model was used to find the best operating parameters of contaminant adsorption, including time, adsorbent dose, and starting concentration of pollutants. By using this statistical model, it was found that the optimal conditions for the adsorption reaction to achieve the complete removal of MB are 66.7 h adsorption time duration, 98.5 mg L-1 starting concentration, and an adsorbent dose of 5.9 mg, while for the complete removal of PCT, it is 57.6 h adsorption time duration, 80 mg L-1 starting concentration, and an adsorbent dose of 6 mg. The reusability of the nanocomposite hydrogels were tested for 5 cycles, all showed high adsorption capacity, indicating the potential for practical application of this nanocomposite hydrogel system. This study indicates that the prepared nanocomposite hydrogel raises the standard used for treatment of wastewater and also gives a solution to protect the environment and mitigate global warming.

Abstract:In this study, environmentally-friendly nanocomposite hydrogels were fabricated. These hydrogels consisted of semi-interpenetrating networks of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) molecules grafted to polyacrylic acid (PAA), as an eco-friendly and non-toxic polymer with numerous carboxyl and hydroxyl functional groups, which were reinforced with different levels of graphene oxide particles (0.5, 1.5 or 3% wt). Field-emission electron scanning microscopy (FESEM) images indicated that the pore size of the nanocomposites decreased with increasing graphic oxide concentration. The presence of the graphic oxide increased the storage modulus and thermal stability of the nanocomposite hydrogels. The hydrogels had an adsorption capacity of 138 mg/g of a model cationic dye pollutant (methylene blue) after 250 min. Moreover, a reusability test showed that the adsorption capacity remained at around 90% after 9 cycles. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations suggested that the adsorption of methylene blue was mainly a result of π-π bonds, hydrogen bonds, and electrostatic interactions with graphene oxide. Our results indicated that the nanocomposite hydrogels fabricated in this study may be eco-friendly, stable, efficient, and reusable adsorbents for ionic pollutants in wastewater treatment.

Abstract:An innovative approach was developed for removing very potent heavy metal cations and dyes such as lead (Pb +2 ), copper (Cu +2 ) and methylene blue (MB) from simulated solutions at different application conditions. The sorbent material was green hydrogels based on guar gum/poly acrylamide (GG/PAam) fabricated with rice husk core (GG/PAAm/RH) and the optimized formulation was blended with Ulva fasciata and Sargassum dentifolium green algae (denoted as GG/PAAm/RH/Ulva and GG/PAAm/RH/Sarg respectively). The chemical modification process was confirmed by FTIR. The effect of rice husk on the crystallographic and the thermal properties of the hydrogel composites was verified via the XRD and TGA analyses respectively. The surface topography versus structure variation and adsorption process of the aforementioned hydrogels were substantiated by the AFM in order to prove their suitability as effective candidates for wastewater remediation. Different adsorption and kinetic isotherms were applied to precisely describe the adsorption process. The data reveal that the adsorption mechanism best fit multilayer adsorption Freundlich process with q max values onto GG/PAAm/RH/Ulva and GG/PAAm/RH/Sarg as follows: 50.25 and 73.52 mg g for adsorption of Cu +2 , 45.24 and 52.63 mg g for Pb +2 , and 51.54 and 68.02 mg g for MB. The reusability investigation proved that the algal-supported sorbents were very successful in removing of reasonable amounts of pollutants after four adsorption–desorption cycles.

Abstract:Natural macromolecular-based hydrogels have unique advantages in pollutant adsorption due to their biodegradability and abundance of reactive functional groups. However, poor mechanical properties and adsorption capability limit their application. In this paper, Poly-(acrylamide-acrylic acid)/sesbania gum/bentonite (P(AM-AA)/SG/BT) composite hydrogel was prepared by in situ free-radical polymerization and applied to the adsorption for methylene blue (MB) and methylene green (MG). Relevant characterization, performance tests, and model analysis were used to investigate the preparation mechanism and absorption characteristics of MB and MG on P(AM-AA)/SG/BT. Our results indicated that SG, BT, and P(AM-AA) were combined through multiple mechanisms including functional group copolymerization, hydrogen bonding, and structural interweaving, which endowed P(AM-AA)/SG/BT composite hydrogel with good mechanical properties (tensile strength of 116 kPa, tensile elongation of 2645%, and over 90% recovery of compression deformation), high adsorption capacity (1226mg/g for MB and 783mg/g for MG, over 90% of removal rate at a dye concentration of 100mg/L), and good recyclability (the adsorption amount maintaining 86% of the initial amount and the desorption efficiency over 78% after 5 cycles). Adsorption of MB and MG on P(AM-AA)/SG/BT was consistent with the pseudo-second order equation, the intraparticle diffusion model and the Freundlich isotherm model, as well as spontaneous and exothermic for MB adsorption, while spontaneous and endothermic for MG adsorption. Clearly, P(AM-AA)/SG/BT composite hydrogel proved to be an efficient and effective adsorbent in PDW treatments.

Abstract:In the present investigation a novel, environmentally affable and economical, modified gellan gum nanocomposite (MAA-g-GG/Ppy/MMT) was fabricated via free-radical polymerization for the liquid-phase mitigation of Methylene blue (MB) and Malachite green (MG) dyes. The innovation of this work is substantiated by the intentional combination of diverse materials, the strategic incorporation of polypyrrole for enhanced adsorption, and the thoughtful addition of MMT as a nanofiller to address mechanical strength and improve adsorption capacity. The physico-chemical facets of MAA-g-GG/Ppy/MMT and its interaction with the dye molecules were elucidated using FT-IR, SEM-EDX, BET, TEM, and XRD techniques. The optimum conditions for the sorption of MB and MG were deemed to be dosage (1.2 g/L for both dyes), contact time (50 min for both dyes), initial MG/MB concentration (MB = 40 mg/L & MG = 30 mg/L), and pH (MB = 10 & MG = 7). The Freundlich isotherm was identified as the most suitable model, as evidenced by the highest R 2 value (∼0.999), indicating multilayer adsorption. The pseudo second-order model appraised the kinetic data. Thermodynamic findings revealed the adsorption process to be spontaneous, viable and exothermic which was ascertained by negative ∆H ⸰ values (−22.8 kJ/mol for MB and −18.3 kJ/mol for MG). The substantial Langmuir adsorption capacity ( Q m : MG =185.185; MB = 344.827) can be ascribed to the reason for strong interactions between MAA-g-GG/Ppy/MMT and dyes. The high reliability of MAA-g-GG/Ppy/MMT was determined by the regeneration studies that worked up to four cycles for both dyes. The real water (distilled water, tap water, and river water) samples spiked with MG/MB demonstrated a substantial uptake of dyes (>85 %) and the marginal influence of ionic strength on the adsorptive potential of MAA-g-GG/Ppy/MMT validated its efficacy for the decontamination of real effluents. The forces of attraction between the dyes and MAA-g-GG/Ppy/MMT included van der Waals, electrostatic forces of attraction, and π-π interaction. This green, economical, and viable MAA-g-GG/Ppy/MMT will prove to be an efficient adsorbent for the decontamination process of sequestration of dyes to achieve a sustainable environment.

Abstract:Environmental pollution with dyes released from industrial effluent is one of the major and most critical problems in the world. To alleviate this issue, advanced and safe materials with fast and highly efficient dye removal should be designed. Great attention has been paid recently to hydrogels based on polysaccharides such as Arabic Gum (AG) grafted with polyacrylamide (PAM) and polyacrylic acid (PAA). These materials combine the merits of natural polymers such as biodegradability and non-toxicity with the high adsorption ability of PAM and PAA towards cationic dyes such as methylene blue (MB). Many previous works have been done to enhance three-dimensional (3D) structure and swelling ability of the graft copolymers by using a crosslinking agent or even adding nanomaterials as a filler inside the hydrogel matrix. However, these additives may negatively affect the adsorption ability, and few previous studies could reach 2000 mg/g of maximum MB capacity removal within a good period of time. In our work, we synthesized partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide grafted Arabic gum (AG-g-PAM/PAA) to have both amide and carboxylate groups. The modified water dissolved graft product undergoes water in oil (W/O) emulsion using paraffin oil as the continuous phase and Triton X-100 as a stabilizing agent; then, the system was inversed to oil in water (O/W) emulsion by increasing the shear mixing rate and cross-linked using Epichlorohydrin (ECH). The precipitated graft product showed hierarchically interconnected micro and macropores’ sponge like shape with fast water swelling and high MB adsorption capacity (2300 mg g−1) after 45 min at near neutral pH conditions.

Abstract:Wastewater treatment is one of the most interesting fields nowadays, especially removal of synthetic dyes from aqueous solution. For example, malachite green is considered as one the serious cationic dyes because cause tremendous damage to the human health then a series of dangerous diseases. Herein, we reported the synthesis of high-efficient novel anionic adsorbent hydrogels as gelatin-grafted-poly(acrylamide-co-itaconic acid) via free-radical polymerization by using methylenebisacrylamide, MBA, as crosslinking agent. The prepared modified gelatin hydrogels were detected via several analysis techniques: FTIR, XRD, and SEM, and thermal stability was studied by TGA technique as well. Moreover, the swellability of prepared hydrogel was examined and the data were found that maximum swelling rate % was 911% at optimum preparation conditions: 0.3 M of acrylamide and itaconic acid, 2.5 h, 5% (w/w%) of MBA, and temperature was 60 °C. Additionally, the maximum adsorption malachite green capacity by grafted gelatin hydrogels was measured as 93.5% (166.7 mg/g) in basic pH of 50 mL of MG dye solution (125 ppm) using 50 mg of hydrogels at 30 °C for 60 min. The adsorption isotherm models such as Langmuir and Freundlich for capture of dye was examined and results were well fitted with Langmuir model (R2 = 0.9923).

Abstract:A three-dimensional (3D) robust sodium alginate/gelatin/graphene oxide (SGGO) triple-network composite aerogel was designed using a "hydrophilic assembly–sustained release gelation" two-step method. The resulting SGGO aerogel has an ordered fishing net-like microstructure, low density (16.2 mg/cm<sup>3</sup>), high porosity (93.5%), and abundant functional groups when only 3 wt% GO was incorporated. The reinforced mechanical strength can reach 0.37 MPa and 0.12 MPa under dry and wet states, respectively, and the dry strength can still reach 0.31 MPa without a significant loss after five compression cycles. A batch adsorption experiment was performed as a function of pH, contact time and initial concentration. Adsorption behavior followed the pseudo second-order kinetic model and Langmuir isotherm, yielding the maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of 322.6 mg/g and 196.8 mg/g for Methylene blue (MB) and Congo red (CR), respectively. Moreover, thermodynamic studies indicated a spontaneous and endothermic adsorption process. After five regeneration cycles, the adsorption capacity can reach 88.4% and 86.5% of the initial values for MB and CR, demonstrating a high-performance, recyclable and promising candidate for dye wastewater treatment.

Abstract:The study presents the development and optimization of a novel garlic straw-based composite hydrogel synthesized using electron beam irradiation for adsorption of common harmful organic pollutants like methylene blue dye (MB). The composite hydrogel was prepared from garlic straw (GS) mixed with (polyvinyl alcohol/Pectin) (PVA/Pt) copolymers using an eco-friendly technique of electron beam (EB) radiation for crosslinking. The synthesis process and parameters were optimized. The total PVA/Pt content 20wt% of composition 70/30 includes 20wt% GS at 35 kGy was chosen as the most suitable condition for optimization. The structure, morphology, and thermal properties were studied using different instruments. The resulting (PVA/Pt)-GS composite hydrogel exhibited excellent adsorption capacity for MB, showcased through comprehensive investigations of isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamics. The maximum adsorption capacity of PVA/Pt-GS for MB was 505 mg/g at pH 9. Isotherm studies revealed the adsorption mechanism, while kinetic analyses provided insights into the adsorption rate. Thermodynamic investigations elucidated the spontaneity and feasibility of the adsorption process.

Abstract:Large-scale abuse of antibiotics has led to serious environmental problems. Some conventional adsorbents such as several biopolymer gels have poor adsorption performance and inadequate mechanical properties. In this paper, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and graphene oxide (GO), were combined with sodium alginate (SA) to improve the adsorption performance and other properties of traditional adsorbents. With the help of hydrogen peroxide and l-cysteine (L-cys), carbon nanotubes/l-cysteine@graphene oxide/sodium alginate (CNTs/L-cys@GO/SA) triple-network composite hydrogels were prepared. Compared with traditional hydrogels and the double-network hydrogels that are currently being developed, these triple-network composite hydrogels can exploit their three-dimensional structure to improve their adsorption capacity. The independent triple-network structure increases the three-dimensional space, so there are more pores and pollutant adsorption sites to achieve the high-efficient removal of ciprofloxacin. And the adsorption capacity of CNTs/L-cys@GO/SA hydrogels can reach 181 mg g-1 and 200 mg g-1 at 25 °C and 15 °C respectively in weak acidity environment. In fact, CNTs/L-cys@GO/SA hydrogels show better property at low temperature. In addition, the thermal stability, mechanical properties and swelling ability of the triple-network hydrogels have also been improved. The independent multilayer network can retain the excellent properties of the original materials and make the internal space of hydrogels larger. These multinetwork hydrogels have great potential for removing pollutants from wastewater. In addition, the CNTs/L-cys@GO/SA hydrogels show the higher adsorption capacity of ciprofloxacin under the conditions of weak acidity, low temperature and low inorganic salt concentration, so the removal of ciprofloxacin by hydrogels can also be promoted by changing environmental conditions.

Abstract:A hybrid hydrogel nanocomposite based on the polysaccharide-gum ghatti, has been made and evaluated as an adsorbent material for wastewater treatment. The nanocomposite is composed of a network of gum ghatti- graft -poly(2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid) with magnetite nanoparticles embedded within. This functional material Ggh- g -PAMPS/Fe 3 O 4 has been characterized by FTIR, TGA, SEM, EDS, XRD, BET and VSM techniques. The presence of magnetite nanoparticles imparted superparamagnetic property to the adsorbent material enabling its easy separation after use with an external magnet. The characterization data indicated mesoporous nature of the nanocomposite adsorbent with mean pore diameter of 4.9 nm. The nanoparticles imparted high surface area to the adsorbent material the value being 4.7 m 2 g −1 based on nitrogen adsorption experiments. The suitability of the material as an adsorbent for removal of cationic dyes from water was checked with two cationic dyes namely, rhodamine 6G and methylene blue. The maximum adsorption capacity of the nanocomposite Ggh- g -PAMPS/Fe 3 O 4 towards rhodamine 6G and methylene blue were observed to be 403.2 and 427.8 mg g −1 respectively from their individual solutions of concentration 500 mg L −1 . The pH dependence on swelling and surface charge indicated medium of pH of 7.0 as the ideal condition for effective adsorption. Freundlich isotherm model and pseudo second order kinetic model are observed to be the most befitting models to describe adsorption. Further, the thermodynamic studies revealed the adsorption to be a spontaneous and endothermic process. The desorption study portrayed the reusability of the adsorbent material. The excellent adsorption performance and magnetic nature of the developed nanocomposite suggests its potential application as an adsorbent material in wastewater treatment.

Engineered MXene/Bi2S3 nanoflowers in sodium alginate hydrogel: A synergistic eradicator of disinfected byproducts in aqueous environment

Abstract:In this work, Bi2S3 nanoflowers were in situ anchored on the surface of Ti3C2 via a hydrothermal process to obtain MXene-supported Ti3C2/Bi2S3 nanocomposite, then incorporated inside in sodium alginate polymer to prepared hydrogel materials (Ti3C2/Bi2S3@SA-H) which outperforms and have an excellent capability for the removal of pollutants like disinfected byproducts. The synthesized hydrogel material Ti3C2/Bi2S3@SA-H may be utilized for a variety of functional materials in environmental applications. Furthermore, the Ti3C2/Bi2S3@SA-H was characterized by SEM, EDX, XRD, BET, AFM, FTIR, Zeta potential, XPS, Raman and TGA. Remarkably, Ti3C2/Bi2S3@SA-H hydrogel 0.007 cm3 g-1, 159.5 nm and 0.0017 cm3 g-1, 160.5 nm materials exhibited the highest average pore diameter. The research focused on evaluating the adsorption capability of Ti3C2/Bi2S3@SA-H hydrogel materials for 2,6-dibromo-4-nitrophenol (DBNP), 2,4,6-triiodophenol (TIP), 2,4,6-Trichlorophenol (TCP) and 2,6-dichloro-4-nitrophenol (DCNP). The findings indicated that the material exhibited the eradication efficiency of about 662, 657, 647 and 617 mg/g from DBNP, TIP, TCP and DCNP respectively. Several adsorption isotherms were extensively examined, encompassing the Temkin, Langmuir and Freundlich models, alongside pseudo-first and second-order models. The Langmuir and pseudo-second-order models showed the highest degree of consistency with the observed data. Concerning regeneration and reusability, the materials demonstrated easy regeneration and effective recyclability over the course of 10 cycles. The notable adsorption capacity, coupled with the innovative combination of Ti3C2/Bi2S3 and polymer hydrogel, along with its recyclability, positions our material Ti3C2/Bi2S3@SA-H as a highly prospective competitors for wastewater treatment and other critical areas in water research.

Abstract:The extensive use of pharmaceutical antibiotics in treatment of human and animal infections has resulted in growing concerns about antibiotic pollution worldwide. In this work a novel interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogel has been developed to function as an effective and non-selective adsorbent for various antibiotic pollutants in aqueous solution. This IPN hydrogel is made of multiple active components, including carbon nanotube (CNTs), graphene oxide (GO), and urea-modified sodium alginate (SA). It can be readily prepared through efficient carbodiimide-mediated amide coupling reaction followed by calcium chloride-induced alginate cross-linking. The structural properties, swellability, and thermal stability of this hydrogel have been investigated, while its adsorption properties towards an important antibiotic pollutant, tetracycline, was thoroughly characterized based on adsorption kinetic and isotherm analyses. With a BET surface area of 38.7 m2/g, the IPN hydrogel shows an excellent adsorption capacity of 84.28 ± 4.2 mg/g towards tetracycline in water, while the adsorption capacity is decreased by only 18% after four cycles of use, demonstrating very good reusability. Adsorptive performance in removing two other antibiotics, neomycin and erythromycin, has also been examined and compared. Overall, our studies disclose that this newly designed hybrid hydrogel is an effective and reusable adsorbent material for treating antibiotic pollution in the environment.

Abstract:Release of industrial effluents comprising dyes in water bodies is one of the foremost causes of water pollution. Therefore, the proper and proficient treatment of these dyes contaminated left-over material before their release is crucial. Herein, an eco-friendly biological macromolecule Gum-Acacia (GA) integrated Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles composite hydrogel was manufactured via co-precipitation technique for effective adsorption of Congo red (CR) dye existing in water bodies. The as-prepared magnetic GA/Fe 3 O 4 composite hydrogel was characterized by FTIR, XRD, EDX, VSM, SEM, and BET techniques. These studies discovered the fruitful fabrication of biodegradable magnetic GA/Fe 3 O 4 composite hydrogel possessing porous structure with large surface area (21.78 m 2 /g) and enough saturated magnetization value (24.5 emu/g) for the efficient elimination of CR. The magnetic GA/Fe 3 O 4 composite hydrogel showed higher adsorption (96.3%) of CR as compared to pristine Fe 3 O 4 (45%) in 50 min at pH 6 with 0.02 g of adsorbent and 100 ppm CR. The data obtained from the adsorption of CR over GA/Fe 3 O 4 composite hydrogel have a linear relationship, following the pseudo second-order kinetic model (R 2 =0.990) and Freundlich adsorption isotherm model (R 2 =0.983). The evaluated factors of thermodynamic recommended that the experiments were favourable, spontaneous, and exothermic in nature. In addition, the biodegradable magnetic GA/Fe 3 O 4 composite hydrogel also exhibited excellent desorption as well as recyclability owing to its amazing robust magnetic nature. What is more, the GA/Fe 3 O 4 composite hydrogel reserved the same % adsorption proficiency (>96.3%) up to several repeated rounds, proving its potential applicability for water purgative at domestic plus industrial level.

Abstract:<h3 class="a-plus-plus">Abstract</h3> <p class="a-plus-plus">In the present study, synthesis of poly(AAm-co-AMPS)/Na-MMT hydrogel nanocomposite with different amount of bis[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl] phosphate as a crosslinker was successfully carried out for the removal of crystal violet (CV), methylene blue (MB) and methyl red (MR) from aqueous solution. Hydrogel nanocomposite was characterized by FT-IR, SEM, EDS, XRD and TGA analysis. Several important parameters were investigated to obtain maximum adsorption capacity. Adsorption behavior of hydrogel nanocomposite was investigated for the adsorption of dyes and it was found to remove about 80% for CV, 89% for MB and 51% for MR in 50 mg/L of dyes solutions at pH 7 and about 86% for CV, 93% for MB and 23% for MR at pH 12. Kinetic studies revealed that the applicability of pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order model for the adsorption of CV, MB and MR. The adsorption isotherm was studied in 25, 35, 45 and 55 °C using Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Jovanovic models and the adsorption data were well described by Freundlich isotherm model. Hydrogel nanocomposite showed 155, 176 and 113 mg/g maximum adsorption capacity for CV, MB and MR respectively. Negative values of ΔG<sup class="a-plus-plus">0</sup> for all three dyes suggested the feasibility of dyes removal and support for spontaneous adsorption of CV, MB and MR on hydrogel nanocomposite. Desorption of dyes from the dye loaded hydrogel nanocomposite was simply done in ethanol. Graphene-Enhanced Methacrylated Alginate Gel Films for Sustainable Dye Removal in Water Purification

Abstract:Self-standing nanocomposite films were prepared by three-dimensional UV-induced radical copolymerization of methacrylated alginate (MALG) with acrylic acid (AA) and reinforced with graphene oxide (GO) to improve both mechanical strength and dye adsorption capacity in wastewater decontamination operations. Dynamic mechanical–thermal analysis revealed variations in storage modulus: the higher the GO content, the higher the storage modulus (E′) values. Also, the higher the temperature (associated with a lower and lower water content of films), the larger values of E′ for the films of the same composition (E′(25 °C) = 676.6–1538.7 MPa; E′(100 °C) = 886.9–2066.6 MPa), providing insights into the compatibility between GO and the MALG/AA matrix, as well as, assessing the improvement in the nanocomposite’s final mechanical properties. These crosslinked films in a dry state exhibited rapid water uptake and relatively short drying times (ca. 30 min at room temperature for the MALG/AA/GO composites) resulting from the swelling–drying studies and water contact angle measurements. The efficacy of methylene blue removal from water assessed via UV–VIS spectrometry revealed excellent results, expressed as an adsorption yield of 70–80% and 85–98% after 30 h and 258 h, respectively, of immersion time of films into an MB aqueous solution of 12.5 mg/L (as the contaminated water model). The reusability of the same films was evaluated by consecutive extraction processes of MB from the composite membranes when the content of desorbed dye was also spectrophotometrically monitored and conducted in acidic conditions (HCl aqueous solutions of pH 2). Overall, the introduction of GO in the developed self-standing MALG/AA nanocomposite films exhibited enhanced mechanical properties and increased efficiency for dye removal applications. Their great reutilization potential was highlighted by low drying times and a good ability to release the dye initially adsorbed. Thus, the prepared films could be suitable materials for sustainable and effective water treatment technologies.

Abstract:The AAc/GO nanocomposite hydrogel was successfully employed as a polymeric Nano sorbent of the removal efficiency of M G dye from the model. The complication of the mechanism of the adsorption system was completely exposed by examining how solution pH affects adsorption, Ionic strength isotherm models, kinetic models, and thermodynamics. The adsorption of the MG dye was greatly dependent on the solution pH. The Freundlich model has been demonstrated to be the most accurate in describing the MG dye sorption, whilst the Langmuir model was shown to be the least accurate. Additionally, these integrated mechanisms fit nicely within the framework of a pseudo-second-order model. Additionally, the contact time at equilibrium short (ten minutes) required to MG removes demonstrates the AAc/GO nanocomposite hydrogel can be considered an efficient and potentially useful adsorbent for MG removal from industrial effluents.

Abstract:Utilizing Glutaraldehyde crosslinked sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC-GA) hydrogel and its nanographene oxide composite (CMC-GA-GOx), an effective carboxymethyl cellulose-graphene oxide biobased composites adsorbent was developed for the adsorption removal of methylene blue (MB) cationic dye contaminate from industrial wastewater. The CMC-GA-GOx composites developed were characterized using FTIR, RAMAN, TGA, SEM, and EDX analysis instruments. Through batch experiments, several variables affecting the removal of MB dye, including the biocomposites GO:CMC composition, adsorption time, pH and temperature, initial MB concentration, adsorbent dosage, and NaCl concentration, were investigated under different conditions. The maximum dye removal percentages ranged between 93 and 98%. They were obtained using biocomposites CMC-GA-GO 102 with 20% GO weight percent, adsorption time 25 min, adsorption temperature 25 °C, MB concentrations 10–30 ppm, adsorption pH 7.0, and 0.2 g adsorbent dose. The experimental data of the adsorption process suit the Langmuir isotherm more closely with a maximal monolayer adsorption capacity of 76.92 mg/g. The adsorption process followed the kinetic model of pseudo-second order. The removal of MB was exothermic and spontaneous from a thermodynamic standpoint. In addition, thermodynamic results demonstrated that adsorption operates most effectively at low temperatures. Finally, the reusability of the developed CMC-GA-GO 102 has been proved through 10 successive cycles where only 14% of the MB dye removal percentage was lost. These results suggest that the developed CMC-GA-GO 102 composite may be an inexpensive and reusable adsorbent for removing organic cationic dyes from industrial wastewater.

Abstract:Surface absorption is one of the common methods of removing colored and pharmaceutical pollutants from the wastewater industry. For this purpose, nanocomposites based on natural absorbents, magnetic materials and polymers are used. The advantage of using these three compounds for surface absorption, antibacterial activity and removing toxic pollutants (drug and dye) from the water and sewage industry has been investigated. In this study, a novel synthesized pearlite/ferrite/guar gum (PFG) hydrogel was evaluated. Theoretical studies using molecular dynamics simulation through the Forcite module in Material Studio 2017 showed crystal violet (CV) and naproxen (NAP) dye drug adsorption relative to other dyes and drugs. One of the best ways to remove pollutants is adsorption. With the absorption method, harmful contaminants such as CV and NAP can be removed from the water and wastewater cycle. Morphology and functional groups of natural compounds and synthesized materials were determined using FT‐IR, XRD, TGA, VSM, EDX, BET and FE‐SEM analysis. The potential of the hydrogel to effectively remove CV and NAP from a saturated solution was studied experimentally based on the efficiency of adsorbent dose, pH and temperature. The composition follows the PSO kinetically and the Langmuir model in terms of the isotherm. The maximum absorption capacity of CV (244.40 mg/g) and NAP (180.15 mg/g) in hydrogel was investigated. According to the antibacterial activity test, the synthesized hydrogel had no antibacterial properties.
