Abstract:The high recombination rate of photogenerated charges is the main problem that limits the photocatalytic activity of semiconductor photocatalysts. Herein, we have reported novel heterojunctions of BiOBr–carbon nitride (BiOBr–C3N4) fabricated by depositing BiOBr nanoflakes onto the surface of C3N4. These visible light responsive heterojunctions possess intimately contacted interfaces and well-aligned straddling band-structures, which are propitious to the effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charges, bringing an improved performance. Their photocatalytic activities were evaluated by degrading Rhodamine B in aqueous solution induced by visible or indoor light. The optimum photocatalytic activity of the 0.5BiOBr–0.5C3N4 heterojunction was almost 4.9 and 17.2 times as high as those of individual BiOBr and C3N4 under visible light irradiation, and 1.5 and 48.9 times as high under indoor light irradiation, respectively. Moreover, its activity was also much higher than those of TiO2 (P25), BiOBr–TiO2, and C3N4–TiO2 heterojunctions. On the basis of experimental and theoretical results, the photocatalytic mechanism was proposed, which revealed that organic molecules were mainly oxidized by holes concentrated in the valence band of C3N4. Our work highlights that the design of heterojunctions with well-aligned straddling band-structures by combining two visible light responsive semiconductors provides an efficient method to prepare new photocatalysts working with natural light.
Acid-induced Molecule Self-Assembly Synthesis of Z-scheme WO3/g-C3N4 Heterojunctions for Robust Photocatalysis Against Phenolic Pollutants

Abstract:Searching for effective strategies of boosting charge carrier separation and improving photooxidation ability are highly desirable to design graphitic carbon nitride-based photocatalysts for efficient organic pollutant degradation. Here we demonstrate an in situ acid-induced self-assembly of melamine and sodium tungstate method combined with hydrothermal treatment, by forming WO3/melamine-cyanuric acid supramolecular complex, to fabricate porous sheet-like WO3/g-C3N4 heterojunctions with oxygen doping; meanwhile, the morphology of WO3/g-C3N4 nanosheets can be further regulated by selecting different short-chain carboxylic acids. The heterojunctions exhibit enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity than bulk g-C3N4 and supramolecule-based g-C3N4 in degradation of phenolic pollutants, acetaminophen and methylparaben. The tests including active species trapping, photoelectrochemistry and photoluminescence firmly evidence that the extraordinary Z-scheme charge transfer manner plays dominated role to this excellent activity, which can accelerate charge carrier separation and retain powerful redox ability of electrons on conduction band of g-C3N4 and holes on valence band of WO3 simultaneously; additionally, porous sheet-like nanostructures and oxygen doping also positively influence the activity via improving light harvesting, providing plentiful active sites, shortening charge carrier migration distance and further facilitating charge carrier separation. LC-MS analysis and TOC monitoring find the target pollutants are completely degraded under oxidation of holes, superoxide and hydroxyl radicals.
Novel C3N4–CdS Composite Photocatalysts with Organic–inorganic Heterojunctions: in Situ Synthesis, Exceptional Activity, High Stability and Photocatalytic Mechanism

Abstract:Novel organic-inorganic composites composed of two visible light responsive semiconductors of graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4) and CdS were successfully synthesized via an "in situ" precipitation-deposition method. The C3N4-CdS heterostructures were fabricated by depositing CdS nanoparticles onto the surface of C3N4. The morphology and optical property of compsoites can be tuned by adjusting the mass ratio of C3N4-CdS, which determines the enhanced level of photocatalytic activity. The optimum activity of 0.7C(3)N(4)-0.3CdS photocatalyst is almost 20.5 and 3.1 times higher than those of individual C3N4 and CdS for the degradation of methyl orange, and 41.6 and 2.7 fold higher for the degradation of 4-aminobenzoic acid, respectively. Moreover, its activity is also much higher than those of C3N4-TiO2 and CdS-TiO2 composites, as well as N-modified TiO2. Of special significance is that the present C3N4-CdS composites exhibit high stabilities under illumination, in contrast with CdS. The enhancement in both performance and stability should be assigned to the effective separation and transfer of photogenerated charges originating from the well-matched overlapping band-structures and closely contacted interfaces. Our work highlights that coupling semiconductors with well-matched band energies provides a flexible route to improve the activity and stability of photocatalysts, and gives ideas for the design and synthesis of other highly active and stable materials.

Abstract:Metal-free g-C3N4 is a promising candidate for the next-generation visible light-responsive photocatalyst; however, high recombination probability of the photogenerated charge carriers on g-C3N4 limits its photocatalytic activity. To further increase the intrinsic photocatalytic activity of g-C3N4, here, perylene tetracarboxylic diimide-g-C3N4 (PDI/GCN) heterojunctions are prepared by one-step imidization reaction between perylene tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) and g-C3N4 in aqueous solution. By the combination of various testing results, it is confirmed that the surface hybridization of PTCDA and g-C3N4 in the PDI/GCN heterojunctions via O=C-N-C=O covalent bonds occurs at lower PTCDA-to-g-C3N4 weight percentage. By selecting p-nitrophenol (PNP) and levofloxacin (LEV) as the target organic pollutants, the visible-light photocatalytic performance of the PDI/GCN heterojunctions is studied. It shows that the PDI/GCN heterojunction prepared at a PTCDA-to-g-C3N4 weight percentage of 1% exhibits remarkably higher visible-light photocatalytic degradation and mineralization ability toward aqueous target pollutants as compared with g-C3N4 and Degussa P25 TiO2. On the basis of the experimental results including photoelectrochemistry, indirect chemical probe, and electron spin resonance spectroscopy, it is verified that the surface hybridization in the heterojunctions is responsible for this enhanced photocatalytic activity via accelerating the migration and separation of the photogenerated charge carriers, causing to produce more active species like O-center dot(2)-, h(vB)(+), and (OH)-O-center dot for deep oxidation of PNP or LEV to CO2 and inorganic anions.

Abstract:As a metal-free semiconductor material, graphitic carbon nitride (C3N4), the high recombination rate of photogenerated charges and insufficient sunlight absorption limit its solar-based photocatalytic activity. Here, we reported the heterojunctions of C3N4–Cu2O with a p–n junction structure, which was synthesized by a hydrothermal method. The HR-TEM result revealed an intimate interface between C3N4 and Cu2O in the heterojunction, and UV–vis diffuse reflection spectra showed their extended spectral response in the visible region compared with pure C3N4. These excellent structural and spectral properties, as well as p–n junction structures, endowed the C3N4–Cu2O heterojunctions with enhanced photocatalytic activities. The possible photocatalytic mechanism that photogenerated holes as the mainly oxidant species in photocatalysis was proposed base on the trapping experiments.

Abstract:Photocatalytic splitting of the Cβ-O bond is regarded as a prospective strategy for transforming lignin, and it is imperative to develop novel photocatalysts with effective photogenerated charges separation and solar absorption capacity. Herein, a novel hollow ZIF-8/CdS heterostructure photocatalyst was synthesized for the catalytic splitting of lignin Cβ-O bonds. The photocatalytic cleavage rate of Cβ-O bond of ligin β-O-4 reached 30.3∙mmol∙h-1∙g-1 within 20 min under visible light exposure. It is noteworthy that the utilization of intricate natural lignin molecules in this photocatalytic system has yielded successful depolymerization. The DFT and XPS results indicate a potential unidirectional electron migration from ZIF-8 to CdS in ZIF-8/CdS composites transfer. This electron transport path follows the direct Z-scheme heterostructure mechanism, resulting in the generation of an internal electric field between ZIF-8 and CdS. Impressively, the synergistic combination of the hollow structure and Z-scheme heterostructure effectively enhances the efficiency of charge carrier separation and maintains a robust redox potential, thereby facilitating Cα-radical generation. This study proposes a novel photocatalyst design strategy that integrates hollow structures and Z-scheme heterojunctions, with the aim of targeting the depolymerization of the Cβ-O bond in lignin.
Metal-Free Oxidized Carbon Nitride for Efficient Sunlight-Driven Photocleavage of Lignin Β-O-4 Bond

Abstract:Benefitting from mild reaction conditions and good reusability, photocatalysis has industrial potential for highvalue utilization of lignin waste. Commonly used metal sulfide photocatalysts present the risk of contamination of aromatic products by heavy metal ions due to photocorrosion. Here, a metal-free oxidized g-C3N4 photocatalyst was developed to selectively cleave the beta-O-4 bond of lignin. Simple high-temperature oxidation treatment reduced carbon nitride size and scavenged the terminal NH2 groups, resulting in higher oxygen adsorption capacity and valence band potential. In the photoelectric effect, oxidized g-C3N4 exhibited lower carrier migration resistance and a longer photogenerated electron lifetime. The high oxygen adsorption and specific surface area led to a 160 % increase in superoxide radicals. Two routes for the photocatalytic cleavage beta-O-4 bond in g-C3N4 are proposed. The catalytic activity of oxidized g-C3N4 is 8.5 times higher than that of untreated g-C3N4, the selective photocleavage reactivity attributed mainly to more & BULL;OOH radicals and higher valence band potential. This work will provide a green and efficient strategy for the high-value conversion of lignin.
Synergistic Selective Photocleavage of Lignin C-C Bonds by Triazine-Rich Tubular Carbon Nitride and High-Temperature Oxidation Treatment

Abstract:The key issue in lignin conversion depends on cutting the beta-O-4 linkage bonds between units while keeping the aromatic ring intact. Triazine-heptazine homopolymers of carbon nitride are more prone to break the C-beta-H bond in the beta-O-4 bond and generate the critical C-beta radical compared to the triazine or heptazine structure. Triazine-rich g-C3N4 was successfully prepared by ball milling-thermal polycondensation of melamine and cyanuric acid, which has the advantage of low cost and no desalting compared to the conventional eutectic salt method. The triazine-rich g-C3N4 has higher photocurrent density, lower photogenerated electron-transfer resistance, and less electron-hole recombination. Combined with high-temperature oxidation treatment, g-C3N4-O-Q-A5 has an excellent selective photocleavage efficiency of lignin beta-O-4 bonds, which is 340 % higher than that of untreated g-C3N4. This paper reveals that the localization of holes in the photocleavage beta-O-4 bond reaction, and the amount of superoxide radical generation are the main factors limiting the photocleavage efficiency.
Reduction of the Photogenerated Electron Transport Path by Modulating the Conduction Band Region to Achieve the Highest Lignin Β–O–4 Bond Photocleavage Efficiency under Xenon Excitation

Abstract:Photocracking of lignin beta-O-4 bonds is a green approach for the high-value modification of lignin. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) 3 N 4 ) that can photocleave the beta-O-4 bond is presently the only stable, metal-free photo- catalyst owing to the residual metal ions generated due to photocorrosion of metal sulfides. Herein, g-C3N4 3 N 4 with a N-C3 3 vacancy structure is prepared by etching site-engineering strategy based on the protection of C-N=C =C structure by chlorine atom. The N-C3 3 vacancy structure can reduce the transport path of the photogenerated electrons by tuning the conduction band (CB) region to the edge of the photocatalyst, which impedes the critical complexation of the photogenerated electron-hole pairs and enhances the photoelectric conversion efficiency five-fold. Combined with the unique chemisorption capacity (137.82 kJ/mol) of N-C3 3 vacancies for oxygen, the g-C3N4 3 N 4 photocatalysts with N-C3 3 vacancy structure can generate 9.6-fold higher superoxide radicals and 13-fold higher lignin beta-O-4 bond photocleavage efficiency lignin compared with untreated g-C3N4. 3 N 4 . Based on the reaction enthalpy changes and free energies investigated through simulations, a route of lignin C alpha-C beta alpha -C beta bonds being oxidized and dehydrogenated twice by photogenerated cavities is proposed for the first time. This work reveals the relation between the properties of g-C3N4 3 N 4 and the photocleavage efficiency of lignin beta-O-4 bonds.

Abstract:Lignin has become the largest renewable aromatic resource, and photocatalytic breaking of lignin linkage bonds has emerged as a promising green oxidation technology initiated by solar energy at room temperature. Wherein, carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) photo-cracking of lignin has the advantage of stability and reusability (no photo-corrosion), but is inefficient compared to conventional metal sulfides. In this work, g-C 3 N 4 was dual-modified with Cl doping and high-temperature oxidation, to maximum retain the π-π conjugation that can absorb the benzene ring structure in lignin. The inhibitor experiments and product composition analysis indicated that superoxide radicals acted as the most crucial active species, which was 4 times higher than that of g-C 3 N 4 . The attachment sites of doped Cl on carbon nitride were calculated by comparing the density of states with the actual band gap. The as-fabricated g-C 3 N 4 -Cl-A5 photocatalyst showed a longer carrier lifetime and higher oxygen adsorption capacity and demonstrated excellent benzaldehyde production (1.74 mg h -1 ) from the lignin model under sunlight. The work provides insights into the enhanced superoxide radicals generation via photocatalysis and guidance for the selective breaking of lignin β-O-4 bonds.

Abstract:Photocatalysis is an emerging technique for the remediation of refractory organic contaminants. Herein, a novel dual Z-scheme Bi/BiOI-Bi2O3-C3N4 heterojunctions were constructed through a calcining process following with I- etching and UV-reduction processes. Various analytical technologies were adopted to characterize the materials. As a result, the Bi-0 decorated composite presented improved visible-light-response and rapid charge transfer. Due to the synergy of Bi-0 and dual Z-scheme heterostructures, a remarkable photocatalytic performance toward phenol degradation was achieved with the highest degradation efficiency of 93.2% and rate constant of 0.0161 min(-1) over the optimal composite within 75 min of visible light irradiation. Interestingly, the concen-tration of the yielded benzoquinone considerably decreased with the introduction of C3N4. Trapping experiments and electron spin resonance (ESR) tests indicated that h(+), O-2(center dot-), (OH)-O-center dot and e(-) contributed to phenol remediation, and h(+) and O-2(center dot-) were the crucial species toward phenol degradation. Furthermore, outstanding stability was obtained only with a decline of 3.8% after 4 cycles. A reasonable charge transfer mechanism was also proposed. This work provides a new route for in situ construction of Bi-0 decorated dual Z-scheme heterojunction for phenolic compounds degradation.
Harnessing the Synergistic Power of Ce2S3/TiO2 S-Scheme Heterojunctions for Profound C–O Bond Cleavage in Lignin Model Compounds

Abstract:In the context of achieving carbon neutrality, converting lignin-derived molecules into high-value products through photocatalytic technology provides an environmentally friendly pathway. Establishing energy-efficient processes for converting lignin derivatives requires the construction of highly active and selective photocatalysts. However, enhancing the efficiency and selectivity of photocatalysts for lignin degradation poses an ongoing challenge due to discrepancies in the redox potential and the rapid recombination of photogenerated carriers. To address these significant obstacles, we devised an innovative strategy by developing a Ce2S3 nanoparticle-anchored TiO2 nanorod (Ce2S3/TiO2). This advanced photocatalyst with the S-scheme heterojunction, enabling simultaneous control of carrier dynamics and band structure, was used to study the photocatalytic degradation of the lignin model compound 2-phenoxy-1-acetophenone. Moreover, the photocatalyst can cleave the C-beta-O-4 bond selectively to convert the lignin model compound 2-phenoxy-1-acetophenone into phenol and acetophenone under visible-light irradiation. The yields are up to 94 and 80%, respectively, and 94 or 1.4 times greater than those obtained by pure TiO2 or Ce2S3 individually. In addition, our study for the increased activity in Ce2S3/TiO2 based on density functional theory calculations emphasizes the pivotal role of the S-scheme heterojunction generated between Ce2S3 and TiO2. This heterojunction significantly enhances carrier separation efficiency, thereby augmenting the efficacy of the photocatalytic process. The findings furnish valuable insights for developing advanced photocatalytic systems tailored to the efficient depolymerization of C-beta-O-4 bonds in lignin.
Enhancing oxidation ability of graphitic carbon nitride photocatalysts to promote lignin C α –C β bond cleavage in micellar aqueous media

Abstract:As the most abundant aromatic resource, lignin is an appreciated biomass material to obtain aromatic high-value chemicals. However, the selective cleavage of lignin C α –C β bonds under mild conditions constitutes a challenge. Herein, a photocatalyst having high oxidation capacity was successfully synthesized by codoping S and Cl atoms into graphite carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ). The resulting S,Cl/CN-1.5 photocatalyst exhibits enhanced photogenerated electron–hole separation ability and higher valence band potential than g-C 3 N 4 . S,Cl/CN-1.5 can efficiently break lignin C α –C β bonds in micellar aqueous medium to produce benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol as the main products. Mechanism studies show that the photocatalytic cleavage of lignin C α –C β bonds proceeds via single-electron transfer and C β radical mechanisms in which hydroxyl radicals and photogenerated holes play an important role. Isotopic experiments show that the O atoms required for the photocatalytic cleavage of lignin C α –C β bonds come from water in the micellar aqueous medium based on the full contact between water and substrate. Although O 2 atmosphere is beneficial for the photocatalytic efficiency, O 2 is not necessary for the photocatalytic cleavage of lignin C α –C β bonds. This research provides a useful guide for designing efficient photocatalysts to depolymerize lignin into high-value chemicals.

Abstract:Novel In2O3/boron doped graphite-like carbon nitride (In2O3/g-C3N4B) heterojunction catalysts were successfully fabricated via a facile water-bath combined with calcination method. The resulting 5% In2O3/g-C3N4 catalyst with a proper In2O3 and B content exhibits excellent visible-light photocatalytic activities. Its conversion ratio for tetracycline hydrochloride (TH) and nitric oxide (NO) is 2.0, 1.9 times higher than that of In2O3/g-C3N4, g-C3N4B, g-C3N4B-R (reference sample), respectively. And its CH4 evolution rate is 9.0, 3.6, 2.2, 2.5 times higher than that of In2O3, g-C3N4, g-C3N4B, g-C3N4B-R, respectively. The remarkably enhanced photocatalytic properties are mainly attributed to the result that an appropriate boron and In2O3 modified the g-C3N4 promoted the efficient separation and transfer of photoinduced electrons and holes from the heterojunction interface by the band alignment between In2O3 and g-C3N4B. The probable mechanism on the activity enhancement was also discussed. Moreover, 5% In2O3/g-C3N4B shows good activity stability as evidenced by three recycling reactions. This work offers some useful insights to design and fabricate other highly efficient and stable g-C3N4-based heterojunction multifunctional materials for energy conversion and environmental restoration applications in the near future.
Highly dispersed CdS on C3N4 for selective cleavage of Cβ-O-4 bonds in lignin model compound under blue light

Abstract:Photocatalytic cleavage of lignin Cβ-O-4 bonds is a very effective method to promote the high-value utilization of lignin because lignin can provide a large number of aromatics. However, the higher carrier recombination rate severely inhibits the efficiency of photocatalytic cleavage of Cβ-O-4 bonds in lignin model compound. Here, heterojunction photocatalysts CdS-C3N4 were successfully synthesized through the photodeposition of different masses of CdS on the surface of C3N4. The obtained photocatalyst CdS-C3N4 can effectively break the lignin Cβ-O-4 bonds in 2-Phenoxy-1-phenylethanol (lignin model compound) and the products formed are mainly phenol (Phol) and acetophenone (Ap). More importantly, the yields of Phol and Ap were up to 86.5% and 74.3%, after only irradiation for 1.5 h, respectively, under optimum conditions. A mechanistic study showed that photocatalytic reaction follows a photogenerated electron-hole coupled mechanism. The high photocatalytic performance of CdS-C3N4 is mainly ascribed to the fast photogenerated electron-hole separation capability and good dispersion of CdS on C3N4. This work offers an idea for selective cleavage of lignin Cβ-O-4 bonds by constructing a heterojunction photocatalyst.

Abstract:SiO2, an insulator, hardly has any photocatalytic acitivity due to its intrinsic property, and it is generally used as a hard template to increase the surface area of catalysts. However, in this work, we found that the surface state of the insulator SiO2 can promote the migration of photogenerated charge carriers, leading to the enhancement of the photooxidation ability of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4). A one-pot calcination method was employed to prepare g-C3N4/SiO2 composites using melamine and SiO2 as precursors. The composites present considerably high photocatalytic degradation activities for 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DCP) and rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light (lambda > 420 nm) irradiation, which are about 1.53 and 4.18 times as high as those of bulk g-C3N4, respectively. The enhancement of the photocatalytic activity is due to the fact that the introduction of the insulator SiO2 in g-C3N4/SiO2 composites can greatly improve the specific surface area of the composites; more importantly, the impurity energy level of SiO2 can help accelerate the separation and transfer of electron-hole pairs of g-C3N4. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and trapping experiments with different radical scavengers show that the main active species of g-C3N4 are superoxide radicals, while holes also play a role in photodegradation. For g-C3N4/SiO2-5, besides superoxide radicals and holes, the effect of hydroxyl radicals was greatly improved. Finally, a possible mechanism for the photogenerated charge carrier migration of the g-C3N4/SiO2 photocatalyst was proposed.

Abstract:Graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) is a two-dimensional (2D) photocatalyst, but it appears a mediocre catalytic property due to the recombination of charge carriers. Constructing heterojunctions can boost the separation and suppress the recombination of photo-generated electron–hole pairs. For the conventional Type-II heterojunction, the oxidation ability is significantly reduced due to the decreasing of band gap. We try to maintain its oxidation capacity and promote the artificial bandgap by tailoring a Z-scheme heterojunction through interface engineering. Herein, we grafted different proportions of YMnO3 3D-nanoparticles onto g-C3N4 2D-nanosheets. This special 2D/3D mixed-dimensional nanocomposite exhibits efficient charge carrier transport performance according to the electrochemistry and photocurrent measurement. The outstanding photocatalytic oxidation ability can be verified by the rate of Rhodamine B degradation, which is 3.8 and 2.3 times of YMnO3 and g-C3N4, respectively. Theoretical calculation, active group capture experiments and electron spin resonance indicate the energy band position and the reactive groups (superoxide radicals and holes). The optimized g-C3N4/YMnO3 heterojunction utilizes the interfacial synergistic effect to achieve a composition of vigorous oxidizing ability and outstanding visible light harvesting. This work will pave a promising access for mechanism and interface engineering of other g-C3N4-based Z-scheme heterojunctions.
Efficient and selective cleavage of lignin C–C bonds under visible light facilitated by the Zn(II)-doped mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride photocatalyst

Abstract:Despite the promise of photocatalysis for extracting aromatic compounds from renewable lignin feedstocks, the selective cleavage of C α –C β bonds in lignin under mild conditions poses a persistent challenge, primarily due to their elevated dissociation energies and steric hindrance. Herein, an efficient photocatalytic strategy for selectively breaking the C α –C β bonds of lignin with visible-light irradiation and room temperature is proposed, facilitated by the Zn(II)-doped porous graphitic carbon nitride (Zn/CN) photocatalyst. Reduced energy band gap and photoluminescence, along with intensified visible-light absorption and enhanced photocurrent of Zn/CN, contribute to its efficacy in photocatalytic activity. Consequently, the lignin model compound (2-phenoxy-1-phenylethanol) achieves a conversion rate of 99 %, demonstrating a notable selectivity of 97 % in specifically breaking the C α –C β bonds. Mechanistic investigations identify that photogenerated holes play a pivotal role during the photocatalytic conversion. Additionally, the activity and selectivity of Zn/CN photocatalyst are further confirmed by the successful photocatalytic conversion of pine kraft lignin, yielding high-value chemicals such as benzoic acid and vanillin. This research proposes an economical, efficient, and facile method for utilizing renewable lignin feedstocks under photocatalysis, thus advancing the production of high-value aromatic compounds.

Abstract:The design and construction of heterojunction photocatalysts, which possess a staggered energy band structure and appropriate interfacial contact, is an effective way to achieve outstanding photocatalytic performance. In this study, 2D/2D BiOBr/g-C3N4 heterojunctions were successfully obtained by a convenient in situ self-assembly route. Under simulated sunlight irradiation, 99% of RhB (10 mg·L−1, 100 mL) was efficiently degraded by 1.5-BiOBr/g-C3N4 within 30 min, which is better than the performance of both BiOBr and g-C3N4, and it has superior stability. In addition, the composite also exhibits enhanced photocatalytic activity for H2 production. The enhanced activity can be attributed to the intimate interface contact, the larger surface area, and the highly efficient separation of photoinduced electron–hole pairs. Based on the experimental results, a novel S-scheme model was proposed to illuminate the transfer process of charge carriers. This study presents a simple way to develop novel step-scheme photocatalysts for environmental and related applications.
