Abstract:Background: Unintended pregnancies are associated with poorer obstetric outcomes and are sometimes measured at a population level as a surrogate marker for reproductive autonomy and access to health services, including contraception. Aboriginal Australians face many disparities in health outcomes, including in reproductive health and antenatal care. We aimed to explore the formation and expression of pregnancy intentions in an Aboriginal population to inform health service improvements. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 27 remote-dwelling Aboriginal women, aged 18-49 years. Content analysis was conducted; key themes were discussed with groups of women from participating communities to refine interpretation. Results: Most (19/27) participants expressed pregnancy intentions congruent with reported contraceptive behaviour while eight expressed ambivalent or uncertain intentions. Intentions were shaped by traditional kinship practices, reproductive autonomy and desired family formation. Younger women tended to aspire to smaller family sizes than older women and support was expressed for the postponement of first pregnancy to achieve other life goals. Women in these communities hold strong traditional beliefs, including regarding conception, but did not use traditional methods of contraception in place of modern methods. Reproductive coercion, in the form of pressure to fall pregnant, was recognised as an important issue by women in the community. Conclusion: Consultation strategies that promote rapport, allow space for uncertainty and are inclusive of important personal and cultural contexts are likely to improve shared understanding of pregnancy intention. Universal screening for reproductive coercion and broad counselling on contraceptive options (including discrete methods) may reduce unmet need for contraception. Community approaches supporting reproductive autonomy that is inclusive of men, and enhanced educational and occupational opportunities for young women are needed.

Abstract:Introduction: Family planning among female physicians is harmed by high risks of infertility, workload burden, poor family leave policies, and gender discrimination. Many women report feeling unsupported in the workplace, despite national policies to protect against unfair treatment. Methods: This secondary analysis applied a modified version of the rigorous and accelerated data reduction technique to conduct a thematic analysis of comments to an open-ended prompt. Comments were coded by multiple trained researchers then grouped and merged into illustrative themes via qualitative techniques. Results: Of 1004 responses to the quantitative survey, 162 physicians completed the open-ended prompt. Initial codes (n = 16) were combined into eight groups including, from which three overarching themes were identified. Institutional barriers were highlighted with comments discussing the increased need for parental leave, part-time options and the concern for academic or professional punishment for being pregnant and/or having children. Departmental barriers were explored with comments grouped around codes of discrimination/negative culture and challenges with breastfeeding/pumping and childcare. Personal barriers were discussed in themes highlighting the difficulties that female physicians faced around the timing of family planning, challenges with reproductive health and assistance, and alternative circumstances and/or decisions against family planning. Conclusion: Barriers to family planning in oncology exist across career domains from dysfunctional maternity leave to poor education on infertility risk. Solutions include improving institutional support, expanding parental leave, and general cultural change to improve awareness and promotion of family and career balance.

Abstract:Abstract 1 A double-blind placebo- and standard-controlled study was designed to determine the autonomic effects of fluvoxamine, a putative antidepressant possessing a high 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) re-uptake-blocking activity with essentially no effects on noradrenaline. The study employed single doses of fluvoxamine (50 mg, 75 mg and 100 mg), amitriptyline (50 mg and 75 mg), doxepin (50 mg and 75 mg) and placebo, each of which was administered to 17 healthy volunteers according to a repeated-measures latin square design balanced for drug carry-over. 2 Both amitriptyline (Ami) and doxepin (Dox) produced statistically significant decreases in salivary flow relative to placebo, and these effects were still present 24 h after taking medication. For none of the doses of fluvoxamine (Flu) tested did the differences from placebo (Plac) approach significance. There were no differences between the mean response to Ami and Dox, and equivalent dose levels produced similar profiles of differences from Plac. 3 Both Ami and Dox produced significant decreases in pupil diameter relative to Plac. Corresponding doses of Ami and Dox produce remarkably similar effects on pupil diameter and the differences from Plac in mean responses were virtually identical. There was a suggestion that higher doses of Flu (75 mg and 100 mg) may produce increases in pupil diameter; however, the effect was not present unless adjustments (covariance analysis) were made for baseline values, and the mean response over the three doses was not different from Plac. 4 Although there was a tendency toward reduced palpebral fissure size, with the effects of Ami and Dox being greater than Flu, there were no reliable, significant differences in this measure. 5 Fluvoxamine neither produced significant changes in pulse rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure or mean arterial pressure, nor were there effects in those parameters as a function of postural change. In contrast, Dox produced decreases in systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Neither Ami nor Dox produced significant effects on systolic, diastolic or mean arterial blood pressure related to postural change, but three subjects complained of symptoms compatible with orthostatic hypotension after Dox 75 mg.

Abstract:(1) Background: This study aims to establish the knowledge, attitudes and current behaviours towards female fertility preservation (FP) services amongst healthcare professionals (HCPs) in the UK. (2) Methods: An online survey was advertised publicly on the social media platform Instagram between 25th February 2021 and 11th March 2021. (3) Results: In total, 415 participants fulfilled the inclusion criteria and completed the survey. The majority of HCPs discussed FP techniques either never 39.5% (n = 164), once a year 20.7% (n = 86) or once a month 17.8% (n = 74). The majority rated their knowledge of each type of FP method as 'very poor' or 'poor' and strongly disagreed 14.2% (n = 59) or disagreed 42.2% (n = 175) with the statement they 'felt confident to counsel a patient on FP'. The majority either agreed 37.8% (n = 157) or strongly agreed 22.2% (n = 92) that it was their responsibility to discuss FP and 38.1% (n = 158) agreed or strongly agreed 19.5% (n = 81) they considered the desire for future fertility when planning treatment. The majority 87.2% (n = 362) had not experienced formal training on FP. (4) Conclusions: Discrepancies in knowledge remain regarding techniques of FP, referral pathways, awareness of facilities offering services and existing educational resources. Many HCPs recognise the importance of FP and their responsibility to initiate discussions. The knowledge that FP may not delay the treatment of cancer has also improved; however, training in FP is scarce.

Abstract:Aim This study aimed to review studies exploring the experiences and perceptions of healthcare students and providers regarding their personal choices for elective female fertility preservation and their recommendations of the same to patients. Design/Methods Employing Pluye and Hong's convergent qualitative synthesis approach, a mixed‐studies review was conducted. The appraisal of studies was performed using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool and data analysis utilised Thomas and Harden's thematic synthesis approach. Data Sources Six electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus and Web of Science) were searched from their inception till November 2023. Results About 24 studies were reviewed, uncovering four major themes: varied personal perspectives, knowledge gaps and role ambiguities, perceived temporal and financial constraints and apprehensions related to fear and stigma. Conclusion/Implication This review underscored the challenges faced by healthcare professionals and students in their personal pursuit of elective fertility preservation. Addressing these challenges demands the implementation of fertility navigators, culturally and religiously sensitive public health campaigns and staff training. Moreover, standardised guidelines, transparent cost and process reporting, evidence‐based education, counselling on risks and success rates and governmental support in the form of subsidies can mitigate barriers, enhance cost‐effectiveness and promote equitable access to care. Collaboration among stakeholders is imperative to ensure equitable access and maintain quality care in elective female fertility preservation. Thoughts and opinions about fertility preservation and family building from the transgender community-an interview-based approach

Abstract:Background: When considering the significant prevalence of transgender and gender nonconforming individuals, it is imperative that physicians work to understand the unique needs of this population including paths to family building and fertility preservation. Objective: To understand the thoughts and opinions about fertility preservation and family building within the transgender community. Study design: Survey-based study and qualitative study at a single, large hospital-affiliated fertility center. A 16-question survey followed by a 30-minute virtual interview was utilized. Forty-three participants completed the survey and were used for quantitative analysis, and 40 audio files were used for qualitative analysis. Results: The average age of participants was 27.0±7.3 years old. The majority of participants were assigned female at birth (70.7%); however, most participants' gender identities were transgender (54.8%) or nonbinary (47.6%). The average age at which participants realized they were transgender and disclosed their identity to a friend, or partner, was 16.2±7.0 (range 3-30) and 20.1±5.6 (range 11-33), respectively. The average age that participants disclosed their gender identity to their parents, siblings, or other family was 22.4±5.9 (range 12-35). Five categories were utilized to summarize the experiences and opinions of the participants: family building and parenthood goals, influences of family background/partner on parenthood goals, awareness and knowledge about fertility preservation, barrier to family building, and recommended healthcare provider communication and education. Sixteen participants (40.0%, n/N=16/40) were interested in having children in the future, 18 (45.0%, n/N=18/40) were unsure/dependent on their partner, and 6 (15.0%, n/N=6/40) were not interested in having children. Of those interested in having children (n/N=16/40), the majority wished to utilize adoption to build their family (68.8%, n/N=11/16). Nine participants (22.5%, n/N=9/40) reported that fertility preservation was never discussed. Most participants agreed that gender dysphoria, cost, inadequate counseling, and improvements in healthcare knowledge about transgender individuals were key influences on their opinions about pursuing fertility preservation or parenthood. Conclusion: Transgender individuals want to build families, and the majority consider adoption the preferred method. There are still transgender individuals who are not counseled about fertility preservation. It is imperative the healthcare system continues to improve the education of healthcare providers about management and care of transgender individuals to provide the best care for this vulnerable population.
Quantum chemistry and molecular dynamics studies of the entropic elasticity of localized molecular kinks in polyisoprene chains.

Abstract:We investigate the thermodynamic consequences of the distribution of rotational conformations of polyisoprene on the elastic response of a network chain. In contrast to the classical theory of rubber elasticity, which associates the elastic force with the distribution of end-to-end distances, we find that the distribution of chain contour lengths provides a simple mechanism for an elastic force. Entropic force constants were determined for small contour length extensions of chains constructed as a series of localized kinks, with each kink containing between one and five cis-1,4-isoprene units. The probability distributions for the kink end-to-end distances were computed by two methods: (1) by constructing a Boltzmann distribution from the lengths corresponding to the minimum energy dihedral rotational conformations, obtained by optimizing isoprene using first principles density functional theory, and (2) by sampling the trajectories of molecular dynamics simulations of an isolated molecule composed of five isoprene units. Analogous to the well-known tube model of elasticity, we make the assumption that, for small strains, the chain is constrained by its surrounding tube, and can only move, by a process of reptation, along the primitive path of the contour. Assuming that the chain entropy is Boltzmann's constant times the logarithm of the contour length distribution, we compute the tensile force constants for chain contour length extension as the change in entropy times the temperature. For a chain length typical of moderately crosslinked rubber networks (78 isoprene units), the force constants range between 0.004 and 0.033 N/m, depending on the kink size. For a cross-linked network, these force constants predict an initial tensile modulus of between 3 and 8 MPa, which is comparable to the experimental value of 1 MPa. This mechanism is also consistent with other thermodynamic phenomenology.
Women from diverse minority ethnic or religious backgrounds desire more infertility education and more culturally and personally sensitive fertility care

Abstract:Study question: What are the views, experiences and healthcare needs of infertile women from a minority ethnic or religious background living in Wales? Summary answer: Women from ethnic and religious minority backgrounds consider that their communities have highly pronatalistic attitudes and stigmatize infertility, and express the need for more infertility education (for themselves and their communities), as well as more socio-culturally and interpersonally sensitive fertility care. What is already known: Some people from minority ethnic or religious groups perceive pressure to conceive from their communities, experience social costs when they are unable to have children and stressful interactions with the fertility healthcare system while attempting to conceive. Study design, size, duration: This study was based on a one-day drawing workshop to collect visual (artwork produced by participants) and textual (all conversations and discussions during the workshop) data about the participants' views and experiences of infertility and their fertility care needs. Participants/materials, setting, methods: Participants were nine adult women with a minority ethnic or religious status living in Wales, UK, who were experiencing or had experienced infertility in the past. The workshop comprised five activities: (i) small and large group discussion of infertility-related drawings, (ii) lide-based lecture consisting of an introduction to the basics of drawing objects and people and (iii) thoughts and feelings, (iv) free drawing session and (v) group sharing. Audio recordings of the workshop were transcribed verbatim. Textual data was analysed with thematic analysis. Risk for bias was addressed via individual coding by two authors followed by joint presentation and discussion of results with the research team and participants. Main results and the role of chance: Forty-one themes were identified and grouped into eight distinct higher order themes. These themes described the emotional, relational and social burden of infertility experienced by women, which they perceived to result from their communities' highly pronatalistic attitudes and stigmatization of infertility. Themes also captured women's adaptive coping strategies and critical attitude towards pronatalist ideologies. Lastly, themes captured their overall positive evaluation of their fertility health care, their desire for more infertility education (for themselves and their communities) and for culturally competent and interpersonally sensitive care. Limitations, reasons for caution: Our participants were a small, non-random sample recruited in collaboration with a local charity, which may mean that all participants were well integrated in their communities. Analysis focused on capturing commonalities in participants' experiences and this may sometimes result in homogenising diverse experiences. Wider implications of the findings: More education about the infertility experiences of minority ethnic and religious groups at the community and healthcare delivery level may translate into lessened negative attitudes towards infertility and more culturally competent care, which can be beneficial for women. Abstract:PURPOSE: Existing qualitative studies on young breast cancer patients' fertility have explored patients' perspectives rather than those of doctors and nurses. With the goal of presenting a scientific basis for the design of high-quality fertility guidance programs, this study examines the advantages and disadvantages of providing fertility guidance, as well as the obstacles perceived by doctors and nurses.METHODS: Purposive sampling was used to select 16 doctors and nurses from a Class III Grade A cancer hospital in Hunan Province, China, from March to May 2023. Face-to-face in-depth interviews were conducted. The interview data were analyzed and organized using Colaizzi's seven-step analysis method and NVivo software, respectively.RESULTS: Three themes and nine sub-themes were extracted from the data: (1) Attitude: maintain patients' fertility hope, respect patients' fertility wishes; (2) Obstacles: patient factors, family factors, healthcare worker factors; (3) Suggestions: enhance the professional confidence of doctors and nurses, ensure two-way communication between doctors and patients, promote interdisciplinary knowledge sharing, and establish a whole-process fertility guidance model.CONCLUSIONS: When carrying out fertility guidance for young breast cancer patients, doctors and nurses should fully respect and safeguard the patients' fertility wishes and hope, continuously strengthen their own knowledge reserve, promote interdisciplinary cooperation and improve their communication abilities, rationally analyze the hindrances, and provide continuous and personalized fertility guidance considering factors related to the patient and their family.

Women's views on content and delivery methods for interventions to improve preconception health: a qualitative exploration

Abstract:Background: Systematic review evidence suggests preconception health interventions may be effective in improving a range of outcomes. However, few studies have explored women's views on potential content and delivery methods for these interventions. Methods: Participants were purposively sampled from respondents ( n = 313) of a survey. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted to explore their views on seven candidate delivery methods for preconception health interventions: general practitioners (GPs), nurse practitioners, pharmacists, social media, personal texts and emails, pregnancy tests, and health education in schools. Data were analyzed using a data-driven framework analysis. Results: Twenty women were interviewed. Women wanted interventions to be easily accessible but allow them to conceal their pregnancy plans. They preferred to choose to receive preconception interventions but were receptive to health professionals raising preconception health during 'relevant' appointments such as contraceptive counseling and cervical smear tests. They wanted intervention content to provide trustworthy and positively framed information that highlights the benefits of good preconception health and avoids stigmatizing women for their weight and preconception actions. The inclusion of support for preconception mental health and the use of visual media, personalization, simple information, and interesting and unfamiliar facts were viewed favorably. Conclusion: Interventions to improve preconception health should reflect the sensitivities of pregnancy intentions, be easy to access in a way that enables discretion, and be designed to seek consent to receive the intervention. These interventions should ideally be tailored to their target populations and provide trustworthy information from reputable sources. The potential for unintended harmful effects should be explored.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: In spite of efforts to guarantee patients are adequately informed about their risk of fertility loss and offered treatment for fertility preservation (FP), previous studies have reported that this topic is not routinely discussed with patients, especially with younger patient populations. A mixed method systematic review was undertaken to explore the factors shaping the discussion of FP with children (0-15 years) and adolescents/young adults (16-24 years) with cancer.METHODS: Six databases were searched independently using a combination of keywords and controlled vocabulary/subject headings relating to cancer and fertility. Inclusion criteria consisted of: (a) being published in a peer-reviewed journal, (b) a focus on healthcare professionals' (HCPs') beliefs, attitudes, or practices regarding fertility issues in cancer patients, (c) primary data collection from HCPs, and (d) a focus on HCPs who provide services to young patients. Of the 6276 articles identified in the search, 16 articles presenting the results of 14 studies were included in the final review.RESULTS: Common themes reported across studies indicate that five main factors influence HCPs' discussion of FP with young cancer patients: (a) HCPs' knowledge, (b) HCPs' sense of comfort, (c) patient factors (i.e., sexual maturity, prognosis, partnership status, and whether or not they initiate the conversation), (d) parent factors (i.e., HCPs' perception of the extent of their involvement), and (e) availability of educational materials.CONCLUSIONS: Future work should ensure that HCPs possess knowledge of cancer-related FP and that they receive adequate training on how to consent and discuss information with young patients and their parents.

Consulting patients and providers of assisted reproductive technologies to inform the development of a group psychological intervention for women with infertility

Abstract:Objective: To consult providers and women patients of Assisted Reproductive Technologies regarding their preferences for the format, duration and content in the development of a group psychological intervention. Methods: Providers and current and past women patients of Assisted Reproductive Technologies completed an online cross-sectional survey comprising items about session content, number, frequency, timing, format, delivery mode and inclusion of experiential practice of psychological strategies to promote well-being. Results: Eight providers, 51 current women patients and 51 women who previously underwent Assisted Reproductive Technologies participated. Sixty-two percent of participants indicated a group psychological program would be helpful; and 34% thought it may be helpful. Face-to-face was the preferred delivery mode (42%). Seventy-one percent preferred 60-min sessions held fortnightly (64%), with six sessions most acceptable (24%). Most respondents (74%) felt group participants would likely complete at-home practice. Detailed thematic content from participants highlighted a complex range of consumer challenges. Relevant behaviour change techniques were verified, with those to be included identified as: feedback and monitoring, regulation, self belief, reward and threat, natural consequences, identity, support, shaping knowledge, and comparison of outcomes. Conclusion: Providers and patients were supportive of the development of a group psychological intervention to provide support for women undergoing Assisted Reproductive Technologies. Innovation: The results of this study provide insight informing the co-design of a group psychological program for women with infertility.
Understanding the Values, Qualities, and Preferences of Patients in Their Relationships With Obstetrics and Gynecology Providers: Cross-Sectional Survey With a Mixed Methods Approach

Abstract:Background: The patient-provider relationship in obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) is uniquely complex due to the sensitive nature of examinations and topics. Patients often prefer health care providers who share similar racial, ethnic, gender, or linguistic backgrounds, particularly in sensitive health care situations, to improve communication and comfort, though historically, specific gender preferences for OBGYNs have not been evident. Objective: This study aims to describe the values, qualities, and preferences of patients in their relationships with OBGYN providers. Methods: This cross-sectional survey, conducted from October 2019 to December 2019, involved 1039 US OBGYN patients and used a mixed methods approach, integrating quantitative responses and qualitative insights from open-ended questions. Recruitment was facilitated through targeted social media campaigns, and the survey aimed to capture detailed patient preferences and barriers to care by assessing responses on provider traits, patient experiences, and demographic factors. The study's rigorous data collection and analysis were designed to fill gaps identified in previous research on patient-provider relationships in OBGYN care. Results: The findings underscore the paramount importance of trust and comfort, with listening skills identified as crucial. A notable finding is the marked preference for same-gender providers, observed in 80.7% (545/675) of participants. Primary barriers to seeking care reported included daily commitments, highlighting the need for accessible and flexible care options. Conclusions: The study highlights a significant shift from previous scientific findings in patient preferences toward gender concordance and trust in OBGYN settings, diverging from previous research. These results emphasize the need for patient-centered care and tailored communication strategies to enhance patient experiences and outcomes. Future research should focus on diverse populations to broaden the findings' applicability and explore the impact of recent shifts in health care policies.

Abstract:Infertility has a prevalence of up to 16% worldwide and is on the rise in developed nations, largely due to pursuing childbearing at advanced reproductive ages. Advances in assisted reproductive technology have benefitted socioeconomically advantaged patients disproportionately. High costs of fertility care are largely responsible for this disparity; however, patients in rural areas also face barriers in accessing both gynecology and reproductive endocrinology subspecialty care. Here, focusing on the USA, we discuss fertility care in geographically underserved areas and low-resource settings, and the impact on reproductive outcomes. Increased innovation to improve patient access to fertility care such as assisted reproductive technology is critical for ensuring equity. Remote monitoring is frequently performed by fertility centers, but partnership with local gynecologists has also been demonstrated to be an effective assisted reproductive technology monitoring method. Telehealth is now in mainstream use and the continued application to reduce geographic barriers to infertility patients is imperative. Partnership between local gynecologists and reproductive endocrinology and infertility specialists may improve patient access to fertility care and provide the unique benefits of continuity and ongoing local social support.

Abstract:INTRODUCTION: To date, there are little data discussing fertility preservation desires of transgender and nonbinary adults. This study seeks to examine the demographic characteristics of transgender and nonbinary adults interested in or who have pursued fertility preservation as well as assess the barriers these adults face when interested in fertility preservation. METHODS: An online survey was designed by a team of researchers at an academic medical center. It was assessed for readability by an expert in survey design and reviewed for relevance by members of the transgender and nonbinary communities. It was distributed to an international audience. Participants were 18+, English-speaking, identified as non-cisgender, and had interest or previous experience in completing fertility preservation. The survey was distributed online from November 2022 to May 2023. Results were analyzed using REDCap Stats & Charts software. RESULTS: In total, 102 participants initiated the survey. Fifty-three participants met inclusion criteria for analysis. The majority of participants identified either as transgender woman (43.3%; 23) or nonbinary (32.1%; 17), with 18.9% (10) identifying as transgender man. 17 (32.1%) participants had previously preserved eggs, sperm, or embryos, and 36 (67.9%) were interested in, but had not yet pursued, fertility preservation. Of participants who had completed preservation, 94.1% (16) were assigned male at birth. Of those interested in fertility preservation, 61.8% (21) were assigned female at birth. In terms of barriers to preservation, 63.8% (23) quoted cost as a barrier, despite 91.4% (32) having insurance. CONCLUSION: This survey demonstrates that transgender and nonbinary adults are both interested in and have pursued fertility preservation. In our study sample, only transgender women had been able to complete fertility preservation, which may be illustrative of the more arduous and costly process of preserving oocytes versus sperm. Our results demonstrate, as anticipated, cost continues to be the most common barrier to fertility preservation.

Abstract:First, cryptococcal infections in transplant patients can be readily diagnosed and successfully treated; aggressive, innovative uses of currently available drugs should accomplish this. Second, some drug related toxicity, mostly nephrotoxicity and hematologic, is inevitable, and patients must be carefully monitored so that these effects may be minimized. Third, anti-fungal drug assays are available and can be performed and drug levels should be monitored, with the object of obtaining levels which are both reasonably safe and maximally effective in terms of known in vitro susceptibilities of the offending pathogen.

Abstract:This cross-sectional survey study explores the fertility perceptions of adolescent and young adult female cancer survivors (n = 111) and relationships to fertility counseling and reproductive distress. Satisfaction with post-treatment fertility counseling (β = -0.20, p = 0.04), perceived consequences of cancer-related fertility changes (β = 0.26, p = 0.03), and understanding of one's reproductive health (β = -0.22, p = 0.03) correlated with reproductive distress, controlling for covariates (F(10, 88) = 3.50, p < 0.001). Findings suggest that post-treatment counseling may be important to addressing survivors' perceptions of fertility and reproductive potential, which influences levels of distress and to create a greater sense of control on their road to parenthood.

Abstract:Background: While the literature on healthcare decision-making has long focused on doctor-patient interaction, fertility treatment is an exception, characterized by a triangular interplay between the doctor, the woman and her partner. This study examined treatment decision-making preferences of women undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment, following an unsuccessful IVF cycle, especially their preferred level of doctor and spousal involvement. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 246 Chinese women undergoing IVF recruited from an assisted reproduction clinic of a university-affiliated hospital in Hong Kong. Data collection was conducted between January 2014 and August 2015. Results: Most participants preferred sharing the decision-making tasks with their doctors (92%). In the doctor-patient relationship, passive roles were associated with higher marital satisfaction, presence of religious affiliation and secondary infertility, while autonomous roles were related to female-factor infertility. Fifty-two percent of participants anticipated sharing decision-making, while 46% preferred handing over the decision to their husbands. Preference for a passive rather than a shared role in the spousal relationship was related to a higher husband's age, greater marital satisfaction and higher anxiety. Conclusions: In brief, women tended to prefer sharing decision-making tasks with their doctor as well as actively engaging their partner in making decisions about fertility treatment. This study adds to our understanding of women's role preference and level of involvement in infertility treatment decision-making by providing quantitative evidence from women's experience. It highlights the importance of healthcare professionals in facilitating shared decision-making among couples.
