Abstract:The removal of dye and toxic ionic pollutants from water is an extremely important issue. A simple filtration process to decontaminate water by employing a free-standing fibrous membrane fabricated from highly uniform carbonaceous nanofibers (CNFs) is demonstrated. This process combines the excellent adsorption behavior of CNFs and the advantages of membrane filtration over conventional adsorption techniques, which include simple scale-up, reduced time, and lower energy consumption. Batch adsorption experiments showed that the CNFs exhibited larger adsorption capacities than commercial granular active carbon (GAC) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) because of their large surface area, high uniformity, and numerous active sites on the surface of nanofibers. Membrane filtration experiments proved that the CNF membranes could remove methylene blue (MB) efficiently at a very high flux of 1580 L m(-2) h(-1), which is 10-100 times higher than that of commercial nano-or ultrafiltration membranes with similar rejection properties. The high permeability of CNF membrane permits stacking of membranes to improve adsorption capacity. In addition, the CNF membranes are easily regenerated and remain unaltered in adsorption performance over six successive cycles of dye adsorption, desorption, and washing. Given the high adsorption and regenerability performance of the CNF membrane, it should have potential applications in water purification.
Preparation of Functionalized Ethylene–Vinyl-Alcohol Nanofibrous Membrane Filter for Rapid and Cyclic Removing of Organic Dye from Aqueous Solution

Abstract:A functionalized ethylene–vinyl-alcohol (EVOH) nanofibrous membrane (NFM) was fabricated via co-electrospinning H4SiW12O40 (SiW12) and EVOH first, and then grafting citric acid (CCA) on the electrospun SiW12@EVOH NFM. Characterization with FT-IR, EDX, and XPS confirmed that CCA was introduced to the surface of SiW12@EVOH NFM and the Keggin structure of SiW12 was maintained well in the composite fibers. Due to a number of carboxyl groups introduced by CCA, the as-prepared SiW12@EVOH-CCA NFM can form a high number of hydrogen bonds with CR, and thus can be used to selectively absorb congo red (CR) in aqueous solutions. More importantly, the CR enriched in the NFM can be rapidly degraded via photocatalysis. SiW12 in the NFM acted as a photocatalyst, and the hydroxyl groups in the NFM acted as an electron donor to accelerate the photodegradation rate of CR. Meanwhile, the SiW12@EVOH-CCA NFM was regenerated and then exhibited a relatively stable adsorption capacity in five cycles of filtration–regeneration. The bifunctional nanofibrous membrane filter showed potential for use in the thorough purification of dye wastewater.

Abstract:Multi-component wastewater containing a variety of organic toxins, e.g., dyes and inorganic particulates induces serious environmental concerns, which must be addressed by innovative approaches instead of conventional chemical and physical processes, which are limited by purification efficiency, secondary pollution, and cost-effectiveness. Therefore, it is important to find new avenues of purification methods that are both sustainable and effective. Ultra-fine nanofibrous microfiltration membranes were fabricated by multi-nozzle electrospinning of polyamide-66 (PA-66) and were employed to remove 0.2-μm-nanoparticles and dyes simultaneously from wastewater through filtration and dynamic adsorption performance, in an attempt to discover a one-step filtration system for both dyes and nanoparticles. The fiber diameter and surface morphology of the nanofibrous membranes varied with the concentrations of polyamide solutions, where the ultra-fine nanofibrous membrane exhibited optimum mechanical properties at a specific concentration of PA-66 (11 wt%). The nanofibrous membranes ha d adsorption capabilities of 133.3 and 204.5 mg/g, respectively, against both anionic dyes (e.g., metanil yellow) and cationic dyes (e.g., chrysoidine), respectively. The membrane also selectively filtrated fine nanoparticles with a nearly 100% rejection ratio. A multiple separation mechanism, including adsorption based on electrostatic interaction, hydrogen bonding interaction, and hydrophobic interaction, as well as depth filtration, was proposed. As an applicable demonstration, the spiral wound cartridge fabricated by PA-66 nanofibrous membrane was used for a simulated multi-component wastewater treatment that contained dyes and nanoparticles of different concentrations. During the multicomponent test at flow rate 1 mL/min, a rejection rate of 97% and greater than 99% were achieved against dyes and nanoparticles, respectively.

Abstract:A novel nanofiber composite nano-filtration membrane was prepared by combination of grafting, electrospinning and surface coating. First, carboxyl multi-walled carbon nanotubes were grafted onto bacterial cellulose molecular chains by solution reaction. The grafting products were characterized by TEM, FTIR, Raman, XPS and TGA measurements. Then, they were electrospun into nanofibers to be the supporting layer, and a coating of denser chitosan hydrogel thin film was used as the barrier layer. The morphology of the electrospun nanofibers and composite membrane were observed by SEM. The mechanical behavior of the composite membrane was investigated in dry and wet state. The filtration properties were evaluated in term of the pure water flux (PWF), dye rejection rate and anti-fouling properties. Results showed that the chitosan hydrogel coated electrospun nanofiber composite membrane had higher tensile strength and Young’s Modulus with the value of 11.75, 10.11 and 244, 211 MPa in dry and wet state, respectively. The PWF was increased from 52.1 to 140.7 L/m2 h with the operation pressure increasing from 0.1 to 0.6 MPa. Direct Orange S, Procion Red mx-5B, Stilbene Yellow and Methylene Blue with molecular weight ranged from 300 to 800 g/mol were selected for dye removal test. The rejection rate could maintain over 90% for dyes with the molecular weight larger than 600 g/mol under 0.5 MPa. The chitosan hydrogel coated electrospun nanofiber composite membrane exhibited good anti-fouling properties for both oil and protein. These results indicate that these membranes are efficient for dye removal from wastewater, with high flux and rejection rate at high pressure.

Abstract:<p>Carbon nanotube (CNT) based adsorbents have attracted extensive research interest for aqueous pollutants removal. However, such adsorbents face the problems of limited adsorption capacities and costly regeneration. Here, we report a highly adsorptive photo-regenerable CNT based multifunctional membrane with excellent self-cleaning properties via the facile vacuum filtration method, followed by FeOOH in-situ anchoring and silver-amino reaction. Various dyes (Rhodamine B, methylene blue, eosin Y and acid orange 7) and emerging contaminants (bisphenol A, amoxicillin and p-nitrophenol) were tested with the CNT based membrane. Our membrane exhibited superior adsorption performance to dyes among CNT based adsorbents reported in literature. In particular, the CNT based composite membrane displayed even better adsorption performance to cationic dyes. The adsorption capacities of the membrane for Rhodamine B and methylene blue were up to 181 and 247 mg/g, respectively. The membrane also had excellent self-cleaning and photo-regenerable properties after severe organic fouling. Our multifunctional CNT based membrane combined the features of adsorption, membrane separation, and catalytic degradation into one system, showing great promise for dye polluted wastewater purification. This study also offers a new strategy to engineer robust adsorptive, self-cleaning and regenerable membranes for wastewater treatment.</p>

Abstract:Textile industries currently face vast challenges for the active removal of colored wastewater. Indeed, sustainable, recyclable, and green approaches are still lacking to achieve this aim. Thus, the present study explored the utilization of highly functional, green, recyclable, fully bio-based, and cost-effective composite membranes from post-consumer cotton fabrics and palm waste for wastewater treatment purposes. Highly functional cellulose nanofibers (CNF) were produced from waste cotton fabrics and filter paper using an acid hydrolysis technique. The yield of nanofibers extracted from waste cotton fabrics and filter paper was 76.74 and 54.50%, respectively. The physical, chemical, and structural properties of nanofibers were studied using various advanced analytical techniques. The properties of isolated nanofibers were almost similar and comparable to those of commercial nanofibers. The surface charge densities were −94.0, −80.7, and −90.6 mV for the nanofibers of palm waste, cotton fibers, and filter paper, respectively. After membrane fabrication using vacuum and hot-pressing techniques, the characteristics of the membrane were analyzed. The results showed that the average pore size of the palm-waste membrane was 1.185 nm, while it was 1.875 nm for membrane from waste cotton fibers and filter paper. Congo red and methylene blue dyes were used as model solutions to understand the behavior of available functional groups and the surface ζ-potential of the membrane frameworks' interaction. The membrane made from palm waste had the highest dye removal efficiency, and it was 23% for Congo red and 44% for methylene blue. This study provides insights into the challenges associated with the use of postconsumer textile and agricultural waste, which can be potentially used in high-performance liquid filtration devices for a more sustainable society.

Abstract:Nanofibrous membranes showing selective separation of certain dyes out from multiple organic mixtures are of great importance for many advanced applications. Although various strategies including mixed-matrix-membrane or elaborately designed surface modification have been reported for preparation of these advanced membranes, they are still limited in terms of tedious experimental work and questionable long-term stability. Herein, we have designed and synthesized a range of super-engineering polyarylene ethers containing pendent nucleophilic nitriles and negatively charged sulfonate groups, which have been further processed into nanofibrous membranes (NFM) via the one-step electrospinning technique. Thanks to the presence of high density of surface active binding sites, the electrospun polymeric nanofibers exhibited a high adsorption capacity of 796.25 mg/g for cationic organic dye of methylene blue. More importantly, the optimized polymeric NFM allows rapid selective removal of cationic dyes from their mixtures with other dyes molecules, and the removal efficiency of cationic dyes arrives up to 99% even after eight separation-regeneration cycles. Due to their facile fabrication, highly selective purification feature as well as good recyclability, the protocol revealed in this work would open new way for fabrication of advanced separation membranes for wastewater purification.

Abstract:Electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) nanofiber membrane was functionalized with chitosan and proteins for use in the treatment of dye-containing wastewater. The PAN nanofiber membrane was subjected to alkaline hydrolysis, before being grafted with chitosan and subsequently the proteins from chicken egg white. The resultant nanofiber membrane (P-COOH-CS-CEW) was comprehensively characterized using thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. The efficiency of P-COOH-CS-CEW in removing cationic dye toluidine blue O (TBO) and anionic dye acid orange 7 (AO7) in aqueous solution was evaluated. Based on the performance of model fitting, Langmuir and pseudo-second-order kinetic model could be used to describe the performance of P-COOH-CS-CEW in the removal of TBO (pH 10) and AO7 (pH 2) from the dye solutions. The adsorbed TBO and AO7 dyes can be completely desorbed by an elution solution made of 50% (v/v) ethanol and 1 M sodium chloride. After five consecutive adsorption-desorption cycles, the efficiency of dye removal by P-COOH-CS-CEW was maintained above 97%.

Abstract:This work aims to apply carbon quantum dots (CQDs) from agriculture cellulosic waste (agro wastes), produced via an economically and eco-friendly single-step method, to be used into cellulose acetate composite microfibrous membranes as an innovative solution specifically designed to adsorb methylene blue (MB) and other cationic dyes that are present in various water effluents. Batch adsorption tests were conducted, with variations in contact time (1-24 h), initial MB concentration (25-300 ppm), and adsorbent doses (1-20 g/L). The maximum adsorption capacity of the membrane was 198 mg/g with an initial concentration of 300 ppm at 298 K. Thermodynamic parameters showed that the process is endothermic. Equilibrium experimental data for MB adsorption onto electrospun adsorbent were fitted using different isothermal models, with the Freundlich model showing the best fit. The pseudo-second-order model accurately described the kinetic data with high reliability (R2 > 0.99), and the calculated adsorption capacity was very close to the experimental data. N-CQDs loaded membranes were also tested for removing methyl violet and rhodamine B, demonstrating remarkably high dye removal efficiency. The underlying adsorption mechanism was also reported. Finally, it is worth mentioning that composite adsorbents can be efficiently applied to actual industrial cases because of the possibility of reusing them, opening the route to the fabrication of novel and highly performant adsorbents. These findings underscore N-CQDs' effectiveness in enhancing pollutant removal efficiency from wastewater, highlighting their environmental benefits and promoting a more sustainable approach to water treatment. Therefore, the prepared adsorbent, showing excellent adsorption performance, places them among adsorbents for practical applications in wastewater purification.

Abstract:Development of nanofiber membranes with the ability to remove organic dye such as Indigo Carmine (IC) from effluent wastewater is of immense help to the textile industry. In the present study, we investigate the preparation of cellulose acetate (CA) nanofiber membranes with optimized performances using electrospinning technique for effective removal of Indigo Carmine (IC) dye. Electrospinning parameters and solvent system containing acetic acid were adjusted to obtain CA nanofibers membranes which better suits dye removal application. The obtained nanofiber membranes were characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) and contact angle analysis. Results show that nanofiber webs with optimized electrospinning parameters were continuously formed and are substantially free of defects such as beading, with an average diameter of 950 ± 50 nm. Hydrophobicity of membranes were successfully modified and showed important increase of contact angle values from 37° to 107°. The stirring time was varied to improve the solution homogeneity and consequently the response of membranes in filtration treatment. The CA membranes performance was evaluated through water flux and permeability measurement and tested on IC dye removal. The results showed a rate of dye removal around 83 % and a maximum adsorption capacity (Qm) of 13.09 mg/g for the optimized CA membranes.
High Flux Photocatalytic Self-Cleaning Nanosheet C3N4 Membrane Supported by Cellulose Nanofibers for Dye Wastewater Purification

Abstract:Hazardous dye substances discharged from the textile and dyestuff industries not only threaten local the surrounding ecosystems but are also hard to degraded. We report the preparation of process for a photocatalytic membrane device that can degrade dye pollution under visible light. This filtration membrane, with a well-organized multilayer structure, simultaneously achieves continuous and flow-through separation of degradation products. Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) were used as a template for nanosheet C3N4 (NS C3N4) preparation; the performance for the photocatalytic degradation of dyes improved as the morphology changed from bulking to nanosheet. NS C3N4 was then attached to the surface of a prepared CNF membrane via vacuum filtration. This device exhibited high efficiency (the degradation rates of both Rhodamine B and Methylene blue both reached 96%), high flux (above 160 L·h−1·m−2·bar−1) and excellent stability (maintaining steady flux and high separation were maintained after 4 h). This easy-preparation, easy-scale-up, and low-cost process provides a new method of fabricating photocatalytic membrane devices for dye wastewater treatment.
Exploring the sustainable elimination of dye using cellulose nanofibrils- vinyl resin based nanofiltration membranes

Abstract:This study focuses on the development of a novel self-cleaning nanofiltration membrane for the efficient removal of the cationic dye methylene blue (MB) from industrial wastewater. The membrane is composed of vinyl resin (VR), cellulose nanofibrils (CNF), and titanium alpha aluminate (TAAL) nanoparticles.The TAAL loading ranged from 1 to 5 wt%, the pH varied from 5 to 10, and the initial MB concentration ranged from 10 to 50 ppm. Using a dead-end filtration system, the (VR/CNF@TAAL) membrane with 5 wt% TAAL at pH 10 demonstrated excellent performances. It achieved a remarkable 98.6% removal efficiency for 30 ppm MB dye, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 125.8 mg/g. The adsorption kinetics analysis revealed that the process followed the pseudo-second-order model, indicating a chemisorption mechanism. The rate constant was determined to be 1.2732 × 10-3 g mg-1 min-1. The Freundlich isotherm model provided a better fit (R2 = 0.996) than the Langmuir model, suggesting multilayer adsorption on the nanocomposite membrane surface. In addition to its high adsorption and filtration capabilities, the (VR/CNF@TAAL) nanocomposite membrane exhibited cost-effectiveness and environmental friendliness as an adsorbent for MB removal from industrial wastewater. The membrane's self-cleaning property further contributes to sustainability by reducing the need for additional chemical treatments.
Effective Dye Removal by Acrylic-Based Membrane Constructed from Textile Fibers Waste

Abstract:The good mechanical and chemical stability of textile acrylic fibers waste has promoted its candidacy for fabricating low cost membranes for wastewater treatment. In this work, nanofiltration membranes based on the acrylic fibers waste were successfully prepared using the phase inversion technique. First, membrane solutions with different concentrations (16, 18, 20, and 22%) of acrylic fibers waste (AF) in dimethyl formamide (DMF) were prepared. Evaluation of the membrane performance in terms of water flux and dyes (Congo red and methylene blue) rejection was investigated. Nanofiltration membrane with good water flux and dyes rejection was obtained at 20% polymer concentration. This membrane was modified by adding different ratios (3, 5, and 10 wt%) of polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) to enhance the membrane performance. Characterization of the prepared membrane was explored using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), contact angle, and swelling properties. The results show that the addition of 5% PVP elevated its performance to a high water flux equal 320 L/m 2 /h and complete removal of Congo red and 90% rejection of methylene blue at low pressure (3 bar). The molecular weight cutoff of the produced membrane found to be 319.85 Dalton. Moreover, the effect of dye concentration on water flux and dye rejection at different applied pressure was studied. The entire work presented an optimization procedure for obtaining standalone nanofiltration membrane with high performance using low cost waste materials (textile fiber waste).

Abstract:Developing multifunctional nanofibrous membranes for efficient oil-water separation and dye removal remains a pressing challenge. Herein, amino and TiO 2 modified polyacrylonitrile (PAN) based nanofibrous membrane with unique superhydrophilicity and underwater superoleophilicity has been successfully fabricated via integration of island-in-sea multicomponent electrospinning, vacuum filtration and dip-coating approach. The resulting reconstructed nanofibrous membrane (re-H-PPT@DAPTS) as the self-supporting membrane exhibited outstanding performances for separation of oil-in-water emulsion and controllable removal of cationic/anionic dyes. The results presented that the as-obtained re-H-PPT@DAPTS nanofibrous membrane could effectively separate various surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions under low pressure (0.01 bar) with high separation efficiency (≥99.00 %) and satisfactory flux of approximately 90.00 L m −2 h −1 , maintaining good recyclability. Furthermore, the re-H-PPT@DAPTS nanofibrous membrane exhibited excellent removal efficiencies (≥99.90%) for methylene blue (MEB) at pH = 11 and methyl orange (MO) at pH = 3, even at dye concentration up to 150 mg/L. Leveraging its pH-tunable surface charge, the membrane achieved selective dye separation from cationic/anionic dye mixtures. Importantly, the re-H-PPT@DAPTS nanofibrous membrane possessed photo-induced self-cleaning and antibacterial performances, ensuring superior anti-fouling and reusable characteristics suitable for real wastewater treatment. Therefore, this novel re-H-PPT@DAPTS nanofibrous membrane is anticipated to be a promising candidate for complex wastewater treatment.

One-Step Prepared Multifunctional Polyacrylonitrile/MIL-100(Fe) Membrane with High-Density Porous Fibers for Efficient Dye/Oil Wastewater Remediation

Abstract:With environmental pollution becoming more serious, developing efficient treatment technologies for all kinds of organic wastewater has become the focus of current research. In this work, the coaxial electrospinning technology was used to one-step fabricate a porous and underwater superoleophobic polyacrylonitrile nanofibrous membrane with an Fe-based metal-organic framework (MIL-100(Fe)). Benefiting from the synergistic effect of two jets, the nanofibers are smaller and denser, which prompt the exposure of more nanomaterial additives (MIL-100(Fe)). The BET surface area increased to 202.888 m2/g, and the membranes demonstrated outstanding underwater superoleophobicity. Moreover, compared with traditional blended matrix membranes by the single-axis method, separation of the modifier and membrane matrix material by coaxial methods also maintained excellent mechanical properties, which enhanced Young's modulus 3.4 times (∼1.34 MPa). As a result, facing soluble dyes, the porous C-PAN/MIL-100(Fe) membrane can demonstrate outstanding and fast adsorptive property (the Qm of MB and CR reached 44.71 and 88.74 mg g-1, respectively). For oily emulsion, the hydrophilic and oleophobic nanofibrous reticular surface provided excellent separation performance (flux: 1124.0-1549.3 L m-2 h-1, R > 98%). Moreover, the porous and underwater superoleophobic C-PAN/MIL-100(Fe)-0.5 membrane can synchronously purify the dye/oil mixture emulsions by one-step filtration. Based on the above performance, we believe that the modified nanofibrous membrane prepared by one-step coaxial electrospinning technology can promote more studies of the development of membrane preparation technology in the field of oily wastewater treatment.
Highly-efficient PVDF Adsorptive Membrane Filtration Based on Chitosan@cnts-Cooh Simultaneous Removal of Anionic and Cationic Dyes

Abstract:An adsorptive membrane filtration based on polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) with chitosan (CS) and carboxylated carbon nanotubes (CNTs-COOH) is prepared by method of phase conversion, and the PVDF-CS@CNTs-COOH membranes can effectively separate anionic and cationic dye wastewater. Compared to pure PVDF membranes, PVDF-CS@CNTs-COOH increases pure water flux from 36.39 (L·m-2·h-1) to 85.25 (L·m-2·h-1), an increase of nearly 230%. The membrane exhibits excellent rejection performance in the filtration of six types of dye wastewater. The modified membranes also performed well in terms of rejection of mixed anionic and cationic dyes and also have a high performance in recycling, with a flux of over 94% for both anionic and cationic dyes. In addition, the adsorption curve fitting results showed that the adsorption process was more consistent with the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetic model and Langmuir mode.

Abstract:In this work, we report on a novel membrane design with both photocatalysis and electrocatalysis for simultaneous oil/water separation and dye adsorption/degradation to treat oily wastewater from textile dyeing and finishing. The membrane (designated as PAN-CF/MWCNT/FeOOH) comprised a cotton fabric (CF) dopped with carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and FeOOH and a microporous polyacrylonitrile (PAN) top layer. Under a flow-through dynamic filtration mode, the membrane allowed for separation of oil-in-water emulsions by the PAN layer via wettability sieving and coalescence demulsification, while hydrosoluble dyes were captured and degraded by the CF/MWCNT/FeOOH via adsorption and in situ electro-degradation. The kinetics of adsorptive capture and electro-induced degradation of hydrosoluble dyes on the PAN-CF/MWCNT/FeOOH membrane was determined, which confirmed that the flux decline during flow-through filtration caused by the accumulated foulant in the membrane was alleviated effectively. A flow-through filtration test with methylene blue (MB) dyed petroleum ether-in-water emulsion showed that a high removal rate of oil (99.9 %) and dyes (97.6 %) was achieved simultaneously in a single pass at a high water permeability (17.2 m 3 /m 2 .h.bar) under an operating pressure of 6.5 kPa and a DC current of 10 mA. In addition, the fouled membrane could be cleaned easily via photo-Fenton degradation under light irradiation. This novel approach to the design and fabrication of membranes with multifunctionalities is expected to offer numerous advantages for treating complex oily wastewater from textile processing.

Abstract:With the requirement of sustainable development in modern society, it is urgent to develop the environmentally friendly adsorbents for selective filtration and separation of toxic dyes from hazardous wastewater. Herein, a stable, reusable, and highly compressible three-dimensional regenerated cellulose/polyethyleneimine composite aerogel (RC/PCA) was successfully prepared directly using cheap cotton pulp as raw material and N-methyl morpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) as the "green" solvent, in which the regenerated cellulose (RC) with hydroxyl groups converted from cotton can interact with polyethyleneimine (PEI) with amine groups. After further crosslinking of RC, PEI and glutaraldehyde (GA), the RC/PCA can be used to selectively absorb anionic dyes from the ternary mixed dye system, which maximal adsorption capacity for methyl orange (MO) can be up to 980.39 mg/g. Moreover, the obtained stable RC/PCA can be repeatedly used at least 50 times for the removal of MO (20 mg/L) with a high filtration efficiency of 99.8 %. The kinetics and isothermal adsorption data were described via the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Langmuir model. Therefore, this research proposes a novel strategy for developing low-cost, highly efficient, regenerated cellulose-based adsorbents to extract organic dyes from wastewater for potential practical applications.
Design and function of lignin/silk fibroin-based multilayer water purification membranes for dye adsorption

Abstract:The treatment of dye wastewater poses a significant challenge to the sewage recycling industries. However, the reduction of secondary pollution resulting from the membrane residues, to maintain high performance, remains a considerable obstacle. A novel approach for the fabrication of multilayer nanofiber structures using a layer-by-layer electrostatic spinning technique with biological materials was reported in this study. Incorporating the chemical adsorption advantages of lignin nanofiber and the physical adsorption advantages of silk fibroin (SF) nanofiber enabled the full realization of excellent dye interception performance. A comparative analysis was conducted on the lignin derived from eucalyptus, pine, and straw to determine the most suitable option. Notably, eucalyptus lignin exhibited superior antimicrobial properties. The adsorption of crystal violet by eucalyptus lignin/SF membrane was consistent with the Freundlich isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic model, revealing a chemisorption mechanism involving Π-Π conjugation, hydrogen bonding, and the binding of anions and cations. The lignin/SF membrane exhibited a retention rate exceeding 99.5 % for crystal violet, methylene blue, and brilliant green dyes. Furthermore, it demonstrated efficacy in retaining heavy metal ions, including cadmium and copper. The original biomass material imparts the property of rapid degradation to a multilayer membrane that can be used as an effective and eco-friendly water purification material.
