Abstract:It pointed out based on Dufu's poems,Dufu's thatched cottage created complicated garden spaces and abundant garden artistic conception.From four aespects including the garden location,architectural layout,calligraphy and inscribed boards and plant disposition,the space arrangements such as the coexistence of virtuality and reality,transforming the reality into virtuality,harmonizing reality and virtuality,as well as the landscape artistic conception which blending poetry into garden and recreating artistic conception as described in Dufu's poetry were deeply analyzed.

Abstract:From the perspective of iconography, this paper presents an in-depth analysis of Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, a classic work of traditional Chinese landscape painting. This work has been highly respected since the Tang Dynasty and is regarded as one of the important representatives in the history of Chinese painting. Its rich connotation and artistic value have always been the focus of scholars' research. The thesis aims to deeply interpret the historical and cultural connotations and artistic symbolism embedded in Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains through the iconographic method, from the levels of ex-iconography, iconography and iconographic analysis, to reveal its important position and value in Chinese traditional art. Adopting the iconographic method, the analysis is divided into three main levels. First, through pre-imaginative analysis, we focus on the physical facts and visual representations on the surface of the work; second, we use imaginative analysis to explore the information of the specific objects in the work and explore their connections and themes; and finally, we carry out imaginative analysis to reveal the deeper historical and cultural connotations and symbolic meanings of the work. Through in-depth iconographic analysis, Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains demonstrates the core values of traditional Chinese landscape painting, presenting a fusion of natural landscapes and humanistic emotions. It is not only a work of art, but also a vivid expression of traditional Chinese culture and aesthetics. The findings of this dissertation will contribute to a better understanding of the profound historical and cultural connotations embedded in Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, as well as its important position and value in the history of Chinese art.

Abstract:Recent research has primarily focused on the genealogical relationship between ancestral temple painting and its spatial carriers, highlighting a shift in perspective from artistry to symbolism to kinship. While some scholars have noted the influence of ritual culture on architectural painting, few have explored its kinship relationship with architectural carriers. By incorporating relational sociology theory, this study chronologically reviews events influencing the formation of ancestral temple ritual culture, constructs a developmental model, and conducts case studies on the ethicality of architectural painting art, thus establishing a relational sociology analysis framework. Findings: (1) Ancestral temple architectural painting exhibits the ethicality and educational value inherent in Confucian concepts; (2) Themes such as immortal life, literati and scholars, and common folk simplicity highlight the spiritual and material kinship of ancestral temple painting. The vocabulary used in titles such as "He (rapprochement-和)", "He (reunification-合)", "wealth (财)", "happiness (乐)", "blessing (福)", and "longevity (寿)" reveals a positive transmission of Confucian values; (3) The five main artistic expressions of ancestral temple painting are metaphor through objects (借物喻意), the personification of events (以人喻事), using the past to illuminate the present (借古喻今), expressing aspirations through objects (托物喻志), and pun-based symbolism (谐音寓意); (4) The decorative elements of ancestral temples correspond to the forms of their painting art, with the former extending the space of the tomb sacrificial system and the latter representing artistic inheritance. The development of ancestral temple architecture has formed dual developmental contexts centered on ritual culture and supplemented by academic dissemination, fluctuating with the status of Confucianism. The relational sociology model shows that the political aspects of ancestral temples form a sub-lineage of their ritual culture, closely linked to reforms in the educational system and transformations in building functions, further influencing architectural form and decorative art.

Abstract:Culture and tradition have a crucial role in molding societies, safeguarding shared experiences, and fostering a sense of identity. They are the threads that connect us to our past, spanning the gap between our roots, values, and traditions. The objective of this research is to examine the paintings at Baoning Temple from the perspective of culturally astute artists and art historians. The purpose of the research was to better comprehend the murals' cultural significance by uncovering its historical background, artistic processes, symbolic representations, and engrained interpretations. A qualitative research approach was employed to conduct semi-structured interviews with 10 selected artists and art historians. A thematic analysis was conducted on the murals of the Baoning Temple in order to identify recurrent themes and patterns. The inquiry revealed several crucial aspects, such as the historical context of the murals, the artistic techniques employed, the symbolism and depiction depicted, and the diverse cultural interpretations of significance. It was determined that the murals captured the cultural legacy of Shanxi by fusing indigenous and foreign motifs. This work makes a valuable contribution to the field of art and cultural heritage studies by providing a comprehensive analysis of the paintings at the Baoning Temple. The results demonstrate the correlation between cultural heritage and creative interpretation, enhancing our understanding of their historical and cultural significance. This study emphasizes how important it is to value and protect these murals as precious cultural treasures.

Influenced by the traditional culture over a long period of time, Huizhou folk houses have formed their own decorative design style with unique regional features. The article explores the design ideas on the decorative art of Huizhou ancient folk houses through formation and development of the decorative style, decorative characteristics, adornment subjects and decorative crafts. Based on it, the article excavates modern significance and value of the decorative art of Huizhou ancient folk houses, trying to get some references and enlightenments on modern architectural decorative design.

Abstract:Anyuan Temple, constructed in the 29th year of the Qing Dynasty (1764), serves as a repository of numerous Sanskrit inscriptions and Hexi color paintings from the Qing era. Among its collections, the green Tara Buddha statue, exquisitely carved from wood, is recognized as a national first-class cultural relic. This edifice is instrumental in advancing our comprehension of painting artistry in royal temples. The current research focused on the pigments and binders utilized in the color paintings within Anyuan Temple, located in Chengde. An investigative process entailed collecting four samples from the paintings adorning the temple's beams. These samples underwent comprehensive analysis using a variety of techniques, such as Scanning Electron Microscopy and Energy-Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS), Micro Raman Spectroscopy (m-RS), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The examination revealed that the paintings comprised pigments of lead white, cinnabar, malachite, and azurite, corresponding to the colors white, red, green, and blue, respectively. The enduring stability and aesthetic appeal of these pigments suggest their suitability for use in future conservation efforts. Additionally, Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) analysis identified animal glue as the binding agent in the wood component paintings. These insights are pivotal for the forthcoming restoration endeavors of Anyuan Temple, offering essential guidance in selecting the appropriate materials for restoration.

Abstract:Based on the research of the layout style of temple garden,this paper discusses the Buddhism philosophies and Zen aesthetics in application on the landscaper architecture and focuses on philosophical connotation of the Huayan Sect which is contained within the temple garden,taking the Double-spring Temple as an example.It contrasts the characteristic and achievement of the Chinese temple garden and Japanese,points out that the Chinese temple garden pays attention to landscape shape overfull and is short of the apperception on artistic conception.To adopt the constructing technique of Japanese Zen Garden,design the temple garden full of Zen aesthetics and nature and man,beauty of harmony is the final aim.

Abstract:To inherit the essential characteristics of regionality, diversity, and artistry of the landscape “Grotto-Heavens and Blissful Lands,” this study takes Mount Jingfu, a model of that in the Lingnan Region, as the research object. It is based on the Cultural and Regional Disposition Theory under landscape architecture esthetics and summarizes the esthetic features of Mount Jingfu from three dimensions: (i) regional and technical characteristics of adaptation to local conditions, elaborately utilizing and arranging the space, and drawing on local materials; (ii) social milieu of seeking inner pleasure and integrating different cultures, worshipping numeral immortals and benefiting the folks, and embracing simplicity and bold innovation; (iii) artistic and human qualities of clarity and quiescence, exquisiteness and elegance, and morality and righteousness. The study is conducive to promoting the regional conservation and living inheritance of Lianzhou’s culture of blissful lands and presenting the esthetic characteristics of renowned mountain landscape resources.

Abstract:In order to find a way to combine traditional culture with modern living needs, taking “Chinese painting” as the breakthrough point, through the study of the development process and artistic characteristics of Chinese painting, four aspects of classical philosophy, natural landscape image, brush and ink composition artistic conception, and abstract aesthetic conception contained in Chinese painting are summed up. The results of the study provide enlightenment for contemporary residential landscape design, and summarize the methods of creating Chinese paintings in residential landscape design. Thus, a residential landscape model with the characteristics of “Chinese painting” is found out.

Abstract:Park and garden design of China initially had relatively few strict limitations and rules and there was a great deal of room for creativity. However study of gardens of Suzhou makes it possible to distinguish some basic compositional design features. Those features are: zoning of the park space; designing of routs for visi-tors; creation of contrast and background both in large landscape zones and in small-scale objects; “land-scape borrowing”; use of depth and succession of landscape views. A major challenge for the architect is creation of complex, multi-layered space, where walking routes between the compositional dominants play a significant role. The use of these design features visually extends the garden space, gives the visitor choice between several routes and enriches content of the garden. Besides, several main design objects can be dis-tinguished, such as: large and small water bodies; artificial mountains and stone groups; garden structures, including pavilions, terraces, towers and galleries; decorations and vegetation. Individual design objects and in particular the architectural structures allow us to elaborate the garden space in more detail. Chinese park is inconceivable without the synthesis between the nature and architecture. The acquisition of basic compositional design features allow us not only to better understand the organization of private gardens in China, but also to use them in own design practice.
