Abstract:PurposeResearch demonstrates that children and adolescents with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) are impacted in multiple ways beyond their short stature; however, there are no disease-specific measures to assess these impacts. The purpose of this study was to examine the burden of GHD on children and adolescents, and to conduct concept elicitation to develop a model of the impact of GHD to support a disease-specific outcome measure.MethodsFour focus groups and 52 telephone interviews were conducted with children with GHD and parents/guardians of children with GHD to understand the experience and impacts from the child’s perspective, reported by children or parent-observers about the impact on the child. The interviews and focus groups were conducted in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Interview transcripts were analyzed thematically based on modified grounded theory principles.ResultsThere were 73 descriptions of patient’s experiences elicited from 70 respondents, as three respondents spoke for two children each. A majority of GHD descriptive narratives refer to boy children (n = 51, 69.9%) and a majority of children had taken GHD treatment (n = 64, 89%). Analysis identified four major areas of GHD impact: Signs and Symptoms (beyond short stature), Physical Aspects of Daily Life, Social Well-Being, and Emotional Well-Being.ConclusionsThe burden of GHD in children and adolescents is considerable and not limited to short stature. The severity of GHD impact on children and adolescents appears to be variable and individualized, but these data indicate that early identification and growth hormone treatment may lead to fewer impacts.

Abstract:Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) has been widely used in the clinical treatment of growth hormone deficiency. To simplify the injection process and increase drug compliance, application of the GH injection has become a new treatment plan in recent years. The purpose of the current study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of rhGH injection for the treatment of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) in children in China. In a nationwide, noncomparative, prospective, randomized, open trial, 31 children with confirmed complete GHD received subcutaneous injection of rhGH at 0.25 mg/kg·wk (0.107 IU/kg·d). The injection was given daily and the total weekly amount was separated into 6–7 injections. The patients were followed up at 3-month intervals and the treatment duration was 12 months. The height (HT), annual growth velocity (GV), mean height standard deviation score (HT SDS), blood serum insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3), and bone maturity before and after treatment were compared, and the safety of the treatment was analyzed. The mean HT, GV, and HT SDS were increased from 109.0±14 cm, 2.7±0.9 cm/yr, and −4.62 ±1.46 at baseline to 121.8±13.4 cm, 12.9±3.3 cm/yr, and −2.47±1.86 after 12 months of treatment, respectively (P<0.001). At the same time, blood IGF-I and IGFBP- 3 were increased significantly [41.27±64.43 μg/L vs 159.21±167.92 μg/L and 1540.00±1325.11 mg/L vs 3533.93±1413.82 mg/L, respectively (P<0.001)]. The bone age assessments performed 6 and 12 months after the treatment showed that no advanced bone maturation was noted. No serious adverse events occurred during the treatment, and the drug-related adverse events were mainly decreased thyroid function. We conclude that rhGH injection is a safe and effective drug for treatment of growth hormone deficiency in children.
Long-Term Efficacy and Safety of Recombinant Human Growth Hormone in Children Born Small for Gestational Age.

Abstract:There is a lack of long-term data on the benefit of growth hormone (GH) treatment in Chinese children born small for gestational age (SGA). This study was conducted to assess the long-term efficacy and safety of GH treatment in children born SGA. One hundred and twenty prepubertal SGA children who did not achieve catch-up growth with height remained less than -2 standard deviations (SD) below gender-specific height were enrolled in this two-year, randomized, dose-comparative study followed by an extension study of up to 10 years. Daily subcutaneous injections of 0.23 mg/kg/week [low-dose (LD) group] or 0.46 mg/ kg/week [high-dose (HD) group] somatropin were given for 104 weeks. Dosing in the extension study was <= 0.46 mg/ kg/week. The main outcome measures were change in height SD score (Delta HT-SDS), height velocity, insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1, and IGF-1/IGF binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) molar ratio. Delta HT-SDS at week 104 was 0.91 +/- 0.53 and 1.52 +/- 0.64 in the LD and HD groups (intergroup p < 0.0001), respectively, and continued in an upward trend throughout the extension study, remaining above + 2 for those who received treatment for a total of 7 years or more. At week 104, significant improvements were observed in height velocity, IGF-1 SDS, and IGF-1/IGFBP-3 molar ratio. Adult HT-SDS was - 0.81 +/- 1.68 for boys and -0.82 +/- 1.05 for girls (p = 0.9837). Glucose metabolism and thyroid function were within the normal reference range throughout treatment. Long-term recombinant human GH treatment was tolerable and effective at improving height in children born SGA.

Abstract:Abstract Background: One of the main concerns in chronic diseases such as growth hormone (GH) deficiency is adherence to the treatment, which significantly affects treatment outcomes. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 169 GH recipient children (2–12 years) and teens (13–19 years) referred to a GH distributing teaching pharmacy. The eight-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS) and auto-compliance method were used for the assessment of patients’ adherence to GH. The potential barriers to GH therapy adherence and medication persistence were also explored. Results: Based on the MMAS method, 56.7% of the children and 57.9% of the adolescent groups were adherent to GH therapy. Conversely, according to the auto-compliance method almost all the patients were adherent in the children (95.2%) and adolescent (95.5%) groups. Forgetting to take the injection or refill the prescription, being away from home, exhaustion from long-term injection, drug shortage and inaccessibility to the pharmacy were barriers found to be significantly associated with a low adherence in the children group. While in the adolescent group, forgetting to take the injection, painful injection, concern about long-term complications and exhaustion from long-term injection revealed a significant association with low adherence. Persistence with GH therapy was reported in 75.3% and 67% of children and adolescent patients, respectively. Conclusions: The current study revealed that overall adherence of the study population is low. Considering the barriers with significant association with adherence, different strategies can be incorporated to enhance adherence to GH therapy, i.e. providing early patient and parent education and support, medication reminder systems and longer duration of GH prescriptions.

Abstract:Background Pediatric patients with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) are currently treated with daily injections of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) to promote linear growth and enable attainment of normal adult height. One of the main reasons for suboptimal growth during rhGH therapy is non-adherence to treatment. The objective of this systematic literature review was to examine the recent literature on pediatric adherence to injectable treatments for chronic conditions (focusing on rhGH) to characterize levels of adherence and identify the factors/barriers associated with adherence. Methods The Embase and MEDLINE databases (January 2015–October 2020) were searched to identify publications describing studies of pediatric patients (aged ≤17 years) with GHD and other chronic conditions requiring daily or weekly injectable treatments; a similar targeted search of Chinese literature was also performed. Adherence data were extracted from the included studies and summarized. Risk of bias was determined using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool 2 or the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Results A total of 23 publications were included, with all publications except for one (multiple sclerosis) focused on pediatric GHD studies: there were two clinical trials, 18 observational studies and three survey studies. Study sample sizes ranged from 30 to 13,553 patients (median: 95 patients). The definition of adherence varied between studies and included mean adherence rate, median adherence rate, and the percentage of patients within pre-specified adherence categories. Of the publications assessing adherence to daily rhGH, 11 studies reported 12-month mean adherence rate (range: 73.3%– 95.3%) and eight studies reported median adherence (range: 91%– 99.2%). The barriers to treatment adherence identified included self-administration, increased administration frequency, age (adolescence), longer treatment duration, device design, and insufficient family education, awareness, and/or engagement. Recommendations for increasing adherence included using adherence reminder tools, increasing patient engagement/education, and improving injection device design and drug product. Conclusions Adherence to rhGH treatment was high (>80%) for many studies, though comparability between studies was limited given the substantial heterogeneity in the way adherence was defined, measured, and reported. To address this heterogeneity, we recommend standardizing how adherence is defined and reported and encourage the use of standardized study designs and outcome measures.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) face multiple challenges that can negatively impact the transition from pediatric to adult endocrinology care. For children with GHD resulting from brain cancer or its treatment, the involvement of oncology care providers and possible disease-related comorbidities add further complexity to this transition.DESIGN: An advisory board of pediatric and adult endocrinologists was convened to help better understand the unique challenges faced by childhood cancer survivors with GHD, and discuss recommendations to optimize continuity of care as these patients proceed to adulthood. Topics included the benefits and risks of growth hormone (GH) therapy in cancer survivors, the importance of initiating GH replacement therapy early in the patient's journey and continuing into adulthood, and the obstacles that can limit an effective transition to adult care for these patients.RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS: Some identified obstacles included the need to prioritize cancer treatment over treatment for GHD, a lack of patient and oncologist knowledge about the full range of benefits provided by long-term GH administration, concerns about tumor recurrence risk in cancer survivors receiving GH treatment, and suboptimal communication and coordination (e.g., referrals) between care providers, all of which could potentially result in treatment gaps or even complete loss of follow-up during the care transition. Advisors provided recommendations for increasing education for patients and care providers and improving coordination between treatment team members, both of which are intended to help improve continuity of care to maximize the health benefits of GH administration during the critical period when childhood cancer survivors transition into adulthood.

Abstract:Introduction: There have been significant clinical advances in the understanding of the diagnosis and benefits of long-term recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) replacement in adults with GH deficiency (GHD) since its approval in 1996 by the United States Food and Drug Administration.Areas covered: We searched PubMed, Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE and PsychInfo databases between January 2000 and June 2019 for published studies evaluating adults with GHD. We reviewed the data of the oral macimorelin test compared to the GHRH plus arginine and the insulin tolerance tests that led to its approval by the United States FDA and European Medicines Agency for adult diagnostic testing. We summarize the clinical advances of long-term benefits of rhGH therapy and the potential effects of GH receptor polymorphisms on individual treatment responsiveness. We identify that non-adherence and discontinuation rates are high and recommend strategies to support patients to improve adherence. We also provide an overview of several long-acting GH (LAGH) preparations currently under development and their potential role in improving treatment adherence.Expert opinion: This article summarizes recent clinical advances in rhGH replacement therapy, the biological and molecular aspects that may influence rhGH action, and offers practical strategies to enhance adherence in adults with GHD.

Abstract:Smart technologies and connected health are providing opportunities for improved healthcare for chronic conditions. Acceptance by healthcare professionals (HCPs) and patients is crucial for successful implementation. Evidence-based standards, technological infrastructure and regulatory processes are needed to integrate digital tools into clinical practice. Personal health records provide continuity and aid decision-making, while machine-learning algorithms may help in optimizing therapies and improving outcomes. Digital healthcare can negate geographical barriers, enabling patients in remote areas to access specialist endocrine expertise. We review available and developing digital tools to manage care for patients requiring growth hormone (GH) therapy for growth failure conditions. GH is most often administered via daily injections over several years; continuous adherence is necessary but may become insufficient. Future development and integration of electronic platforms for GH therapy requires involvement of all stakeholders in design-thinking approaches and human-factor testing. Growzen Connect is an innovative digital ecosystem designed to increase the management and monitoring of GH therapy, comprising the easypod device and connected mobile apps. It provides a real-time overview of a patient's therapy, including adherence and growth response, which aids decision-making by HCPs and empowers patients to engage in their therapy journey. Incorporating prediction models for adherence and growth in the ecosystem helps patients build treatment habits and allows issues to be addressed in a timely fashion. A connected ecosystem for GH therapy can enhance outcomes and empower patients, fostering a collaborative and patient-centered approach that is more proactive, beyond the traditional clinic-based approach.

Abstract:Context The evidence of long-term polyethylene glycol recombinant human GH (PEG-rhGH) in pediatric GH deficiency (GHD) is limited. Objective This study aimed to examine the effectiveness and safety of long-term PEG-rhGH in children with GHD in the real world, as well as to examine the effects of dose on patient outcomes. Design A prospective, observational, posttrial study (NCT03290235). Setting, participants and intervention Children with GHD were enrolled from 81 centers in China in 4 individual clinical trials and received weekly 0.2 mg/kg/wk (high-dose) or 0.1 to <0.2 mg/kg/wk (low-dose) PEG-rhGH for 30 months. Main outcomes measures Height SD score (Ht SDS) at 12, 24, and 36 months. Results A total of 1170 children were enrolled in this posttrial study, with 642 patients in the high-dose subgroup and 528 in the low-dose subgroup. The Ht SDS improved significantly after treatment in the total population (P < 0.0001), with a mean change of 0.53 +/- 0.30, 0.89 +/- 0.48, 1.35 +/- 0.63, 1.63 +/- 0.75 at 6 months, 12 months, 24 months, and 36 months, respectively. In addition, the changes in Ht SDS from baseline were significantly improved in the high-dose subgroup compared with the low-dose subgroup at 6, 12, 24, and 36 months after treatment (all P < 0.05). A total of 12 (1.03%) patients developed serious adverse events. There was no serious adverse event related to the treatment, and no AEs leading to treatment discontinuation or death occurred. Conclusions PEG-rhGH showed long-term effectiveness and safety in treating children with GHD. Both dose subgroups showed promising outcomes, whereas PEG-rhGH 0.2 mg/kg/wk might show additional benefit.

Treatment, consisting of daily subcutaneous injections, extends from the time of diagnosis until cessation of linear growth at completion of puberty. Suboptimal adherence to r-hGH therapy is common and has been well documented to substantially impair the growth response and achievement of the optimal goal which is attainment of adult height within the genetic target range. The causes of poor adherence are complex and include disease-, patient-, doctor-, and treatment-related factors. Interventions for suboptimal adherence are important for a long-term successful outcome and can include both face-to-face and digital strategies. Face-to-face interventions include behavioral change approaches such as motivational interviewing and non-judgmental assessment. Medical and nursing staff require training in these techniques. Digital solutions are rapidly advancing as evidenced by the electronic digital auto-injector device, easypod® (Merck Healthcare KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany), which uses the web-based easypod® connect platform allowing adherence data to be transmitted electronically to healthcare professionals (HCPs), who can then access GH treatment history, enhancing clinical decisions. Over the past 10 years, the multi-national Easypod® Connect Observational Study has reported high levels of adherence (> 85%) from up to 40 countries. The easypod® connect system can be supported by a smartphone app, growlinkTM, which facilitates the interactions between the patients, their care team, and patient support services. HCPs are empowered by new digital techniques, however, the human–digital partnership remains essential for optimal growth management. The pediatric patient on r-hGH therapy will benefit from these innovations to enhance adherence and optimize long-term response. In the case of treatment of pediatric growth disorders, prescribed therapy in the form of recombinant human growth hormone (r-hGH) will generally be started in early childhood when the child presents with short stature and continued for many years. The aim is to normalize height during childhood and adolescence and achieve an adult height consistent with the genetic target of the family. 1 Such a therapeutic regimen, consisting of daily subcutaneous injections lasting for many years, places a considerable psychological and physical burden on the patient to adhere. There is also a pressure on healthcare professionals (HCPs) responsible for this care to induce a beneficial long-term result. 2 Two important considerations linked to good adherence to r-hGH are necessary for optimal outcomes. These are, first, the extent to which the patient's behavior matches agreed recommendations from their HCP and, second, persistence with the therapy, ie lack of discontinuation. 3 Adherence can be defined as the extent to which the patient follows a prescribed therapeutic regimen and, in the case of r-hGH, the extent to which daily r-hGH injections are taken. Abstract:This brief review highlights new studies in three areas of the GH field, namely diagnostics, therapeutics and biomarkers. The diagnosis of GH deficiency has always presented a challenge: there is no "gold standard" test of GH status, and GH levels during stimulation testing are affected by many factors that limit diagnostic accuracy. Two new approaches to diagnosis have been proposed: one involves a classical endocrine test of GH production using a GH secretagogue to test the Ghrelin axis, and shows promise in the diagnosis of adult GH deficiency. The other uses a completely different approach analysing the individual's gene expression profile as a surrogate for GH status with high levels of test accuracy. From the therapeutic aspect, there have been significant efforts to produce a long-acting (LA) GH on the premise that this will improve adherence and patient convenience. Aspects of LA-GH pharmacology are considered, and it will be interesting to see in future years what place LA-GH GH takes in the market. Long term surveillance is a vital part of therapeutics; recent studies across Europe have provided reassurance on the safety of recombinant human GH (r-hGH) for those with uncomplicated growth disorders, but do emphasise the need to continue observation through adulthood. The search for biomarkers that precisely reflect GH action in children and adults is an ongoing task. One of the newer bone markers that shows promise is a fragment of collagen type X which now requires further investigation in humans. In parallel with the diagnostic studies, gene expression profiles at the start of r-hGH treatment have been used to predict GH response in children with GHD and girls with Turner syndrome. These data are promising but need evaluation across a range of growth disorders. R-hGH is an effective, safe therapy used in both children and adults. There is however a need to continue to refine diagnosis, treatment and most importantly long-term pharmacovigilance to ensure that the right patients have the best treatment with robust safety profiles.

Abstract:Approximately 10,000 children in France with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) are being administered daily recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH). Although this treatment has long proved efficient for restoring children's growth and metabolism, daily injections of rhGH have a few limitations, such as difficulties in terms of adherence to treatment, which may compromise growth during childhood but also metabolism in adulthood. In addition to the disease burden and besides the adherence hurdles, the obligations related to daily injection have a negative impact on the quality of life of patients and their families. The hypothesis that injections administered at intervals of 1 week, or even 1 month, could improve compliance, reduce treatment discontinuations, and optimize quality of life and therapeutic effectiveness has led to the emergence of new long-acting growth hormone (LAGH). Recent access to LAGHs (somatrogon MA) on the European and French market will likely be followed by a high demand from the families concerned and may raise questions on their effectiveness, safety, and practical use. Numerous practical and practice-related points are needed to guide prescribing physicians while many concerns are still left unresolved (treatment effectiveness or ineffectiveness endpoints, long-term effectiveness, etc.). These issues can only be addressed in the future by compiling registries and conducting long-term real-world studies.
Adherence, Attitudes and Beliefs of Growth Hormone Deficient Patients - A Questionnaire-based Cohort Study

Abstract:Introduction: GHD is a chronic and systemic disease requiring daily replacement of growth hormone (GHRT). Adherence and attitudes of adult GHD patients are not well known. We sought to assess patients' knowledge of growth hormone deficiency (GHD) in association with treatment adherence and attitudes regarding available and upcoming treatment options. Methods: We performed a cross-sectional survey with a custom-made questionnaire at a single centre assessing data on demographics, knowledge of GHD, adherence and attitudes towards GHRT. Results: Of 106 eligible patients actively followed for GHD 70 returned the completed survey (return-rate 66%, 34 m/36 f; age 56±14 years). 46 patients were actively treated, but almost one third (n=24) refused GHRT. 12 patients had participated in clinical trials with LAGH (long-acting growth hormone). Overall, patients with GHRT showed good adherence. Patients refusing GHRT mostly feared side effects and/or had a lack of information/perceived effect. Disease knowledge and level of education were higher in treated than untreated patients (p=0.023/0.017). Only 36% of respondents would initiate treatment with LAGH. Patients with prior LAGH experience and patients with childhood-onset GHD were more likely to adopt LAGH (p=0.048/0.031). Discussion: Most often, misinformation causes patients to refuse GHRT. Possibly the understanding of their condition and consequences of non-treatment is limited. To improve adherence more focused educational and behavioural strategies may be needed. Willingness to begin a therapy with LAGH was lower than expected (36%). The reasons for reluctance against LAGH need to be elucidated.

Abstract:In the majority of children with growth hormone (GH) deficiency (GHD), normal GH secretion may occur before the attainment of final height. The aim of the study was to assess the incidence of persistent and transient GHD and the effectiveness of recombined human GH (rhGH) therapy in children with isolated, idiopathic GHD with respect to the moment of therapy withdrawal and according to different diagnostic criteria of GHD. The analysis included 260 patients (173 boys, 87 girls) with isolated, idiopathic GHD who had completed rhGH therapy and who had been reassessed for GH and IGF-1 secretion. The incidence of transient GHD with respect to different pre- and post-treatment criteria was compared together with the assessment of GH therapy effectiveness. The incidence of transient GHD, even with respect to pediatric criteria, was very high. Normal GH secretion occurred before the attainment of near-final height. Application of more restricted criteria decreased the number of children diagnosed with GHD but not the incidence of transient GHD among them. Poor response to GH therapy was observed mainly in the patients with normal IGF-1 before treatment, suggesting that their diagnosis of GHD may have been a false positive. Further efforts should be made to avoid the overdiagnosis GHD and the overtreatment of patients.

Abstract:Short stature is the most visible and prominent physical characteristic and one of the commonest reason for referral to pediatric endocrinologist. It is assumed as disabling condition with psychosocial consequences that seeks treatment. Behind short stature severe pathology could be hidden, although not necessarily of endocrine origin. Even in the new millennium, many diagnostic pitfalls and dilemmas persist in confirmation of growth hormone deficiency (GHD), the first indication that fits in endocrine paradigm: to replace the missing hormone. In 1985 FDA approved recombinant human GH (hGH) as the treatment of pediatric patients who have growth failure due to inadequate secretion of endogenous GH. Availability of hGH in unlimited amounts enhanced the number of indications of GH use. Pediatric endocrinologist started to promote and to apply use of hGH for height in short, but otherwise healthy children, with hormonal normalcy. Reasonable criticism of such praxis arises in the light of recent safety alerts. The unbearable lightness of prescribing growth hormone to every apparently or really short child is reaching epidemic progress in Serbia. When authorities in this low income country (estimated as developing), approved hGH for use in SGA (small for gestational age) children, use and misuse of hGH exploded. Socially acceptable height, the term applied by some endocrinologists actually means that society does not accept short people. The pharmaceutical companies go even further offering, besides growth acceleration, better and brighter future for potential patients, in whom the self-confidence is measured by centimeters of height. However, benefits of such treatment on quality of life were never confirmed. Children with severe growth failure and documented GHD should be treated undoubtedly, but use of hGH for height, so called cosmetic endocrinology, needs critical appraisal. Children and their parents should be informed about height prediction and long-term consequences.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among caregivers of pGHD patients in Japan. Caregivers were asked about demographic and treatment characteristics, health literacy, treatment satisfaction, opinions about treatment, and treatment adherence. Health literacy was assessed using the 14-item health literacy scale (HLS-14). Adherence was assessed using the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Statistical association with adherence was considered using Chi-square and Student's t –testing. An exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and K-means cluster analysis was conducted to consider the influence of treatment satisfaction and opinions concerning treatment on adherence. Results: Responses were collected from 112 caregivers. The caregiver's age being 30– 39 years old, the primary caregiver being male, the primary caregiver being employed, and low functional health literacy for the caregiver were associated with poor adherence. Patients being pre-elementary school age was also associated with poor adherence. Low satisfaction with drug treatment and/or their device and communication with healthcare professionals (HCPs), and lack of agreement with the importance of treatment management (eg, keeping injection records, getting informed about the disease/therapy, reporting non-adherence, and sticking to an administration schedule), were also associated with poor adherence. Conclusion: Strategies to improve treatment adherence among caregivers of pGHD patients in Japan should consider the age, gender, and employment status of the caregiver – as well as their functional literacy. Improvement in satisfaction with the drug or device used, better communication with HCPs, and greater awareness of the importance of treatment management, may also lead to better adherence. Adherence to treatment may be defined as the extent that recommendations from healthcare professionals (HCPs) concerning treatment administration are followed including the amount to be administered and the frequency of administrations, for example. 12–17 A previous analysis of findings from this study reported that about one-third of caregivers of pediatric and adolescent GHD patients in Japan report poor adherence. 18 An online study conducted in 2015 among Japanese persons that reported having been treated for GHD, or that had children that were treated for GHD, also found that nearly two-thirds (64.3%) had missed a treatment in the past. 7 The same study showed that about 1 out of 4 caregivers of pGHD patients do not always follow the instructions of the physician concerning administration of treatment. Abstract:We examine how employees' centrality in the networks of positively valenced ties (e.g., friendship, advice) and negatively valenced ties (e.g., avoidance) at work interact to affect these employees' organizational attachment. Using 2 different samples (154 employees in a division of a food and animal science organization and 144 employees in a product development firm), we found that employees' centrality in positive and negative tie networks at work were related to their organizational attachment indirectly via their impact on employees' satisfaction with their workplace relationships. Further, interaction results in both studies suggest that the effect of employees' centrality in positive tie networks on their satisfaction with workplace social relationships was stronger when employees had more negative relationships but was irrelevant when employees had fewer negative ties. Implications for theory and practice are discussed.
