Abstract:Epilepsy syndromes are typical childhood nervous system diseases, usually containing several different seizure types commonly seen. There exist around 20 known childhood epilepsy syndromes and accurate classifying these epilepsy syndromes plays a vital guidance to diagnosis and treatment. Current research mainly focused on seizure detection, while few have been presented on epilepsy syndrome classification. In this article, a novel two-stream 3-D attention module-based deep network (TSA3-D) is developed to exploit multichannel time-frequency and frequency-space features of interictal EEGs for epilepsy syndrome classification. Two multichannel montage transforms are applied for EEG feature optimization to reduce artifact affection. In TSA3-D, both the channelwise attention (CA) and dual spatial attention (DSA)-based 3-D attention modules are developed to enhance the EEG feature learning capability. The study is conducted on the long-term interictal EEGs of 115 subjects from the Children's Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (CHZU). These data belong to seven typical childhood epilepsy syndromes and one normal control group. Experimental results show that TSA3-D can achieve an overall accuracy of 99.52%, the highest among when compared with the state-of-the-art (SOTA) methods.
Real-Time Epileptic Seizure Detection Based on Deep Learning.

Abstract:Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological diseases, and video EEG is the most commonly used examination method for epilepsy diagnosis. However, since the video EEG examination lasts for hours, the escort has a heavy burden, and the large amount of video EEG data needs to be visually checked by the doctor. The real-time detection of epileptic seizures can reduce the stress of the escort and provide a mark for the doctor to check the EEG efficiently. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network with specified signal representation for real-time seizure detection and add a smoothing filter on the model output to enhance performance. First, we compare the performance of real-time epileptic seizure detection model under different signal representations. Then we use the best signal representation for further analysis in real-time scenario. In the experiment, the EEG data of 9 patients in the CHB-MIT public data set was used, and a patient-specific neural network was trained for each individual. The recall was 97%, the false alarm was 0.219 times per hour, and the latency time was 3.4s for real-time seizure event detection. The results show that this method can realize the real-time detection of epileptic seizures, which is of great significance to the subsequent system design combined with actual scenes.

Abstract:Seizure onset detection and epileptic preictal prediction based on electroencephalogram (EEG) signals have been a challenge problem in the research community. In this brief, a novel epileptic states classification algorithm based on the multichannel EEGs representation using multiple hand-crafted features, the feature fusion and transfer learning (TL) with multiple pre-trained deep neural networks (DNNs), the discriminative feature extraction and epileptic state classification with a hierarchical neural network (HNN), is developed. The mean amplitude spectrum (MAS), mean power spectral density (MPSD) and wavelet packet features (WPFs) are firstly derived and fused into an image feature for multichannel EEGs representation. Then, 5 classical pre-trained DNNs are directly adopted as feature extractors on the fused image feature. A 7-layer fully-connected (FC) HNN is finally constructed for discriminative feature learning and epileptic state classification. The effectiveness is demonstrated through experiments on the CHB-MIT and the iNeuro epilepsy EEG databases.
MP-SeizNet: A Multi-Path CNN Bi-LSTM Network for Seizure-Type Classification Using EEG

Abstract:Seizure type identification is essential for the treatment and management of epileptic patients. However, it is a difficult process known to be time consuming and labor intensive. Automated diagnosis systems, with the advancement of machine learning algorithms, have the potential to accelerate the classification process, alert patients, and support physicians in making quick and accurate decisions. In this paper, we present a novel multi-path seizure-type classification deep learning network (MP-SeizNet), consisting of a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a bidirectional long short-term memory neural network (Bi-LSTM) with an attention mechanism. The objective of this study was to classify specific types of seizures, including complex partial, simple partial, absence, tonic, and tonic-clonic seizures, using only electroencephalogram (EEG) data. The EEG data is fed to our proposed model in two different representations. The CNN was fed with wavelet-based features extracted from the EEG signals, while the Bi-LSTM was fed with raw EEG signals to let our MP-SeizNet jointly learns from different representations of seizure data for more accurate information learning. The proposed MP-SeizNet was evaluated using the largest available EEG epilepsy database, the Temple University Hospital EEG Seizure Corpus, TUSZ v1.5.2. We evaluated our proposed model across different patient data using three-fold cross-validation and across seizure data using five-fold cross-validation, achieving F1 scores of 87.6% and 98.1%, respectively.

A deep neural network for the classification of epileptic seizures using hierarchical attention mechanism

Abstract:Electroencephalogram (EEG) is a common diagnostic tool for measuring the seizure activity of the brain. There are many deep learning techniques introduced to analyze EEG. These methods show phenomenal results, although they are limited to computational complexity. Our objective was to develop a novel algorithm that gives maximum classification accuracy with a minor computational complexity. In this view, we have introduced a novel convolutional architecture with an integration of a hierarchical attention mechanism. The model comprises three parts: Feature extraction layer, which uses to extract the convoluted feature map; hierarchical attention layer, which is used to obtain weighted hierarchical feature map; classification layer, which uses weighted features for classification of healthy and seizure subjects. The proposed model can extract significant information from the EEG signal to classify seizure subjects, and it is compared with a few existing deep convolutional algorithms through experimentation. The experimental outcomes show that the proposed model has higher accuracy with less computational time.

Abstract:Seizures are defined as short occurrences of unusual elevated brain electrical activity that can result in a variety of symptoms and actions where Seizures are the main sign of epilepsy. Due to the unexpected character of seizures and the individual variances in symptoms, examining individuals who are experiencing epileptic seizures could pose some difficulties. Recent researches have very low accuracies in epileptic seizure detection so in order to solve these above issues a detection model is developed that helps the health care sector. In this research, an improved deep dual adaptive CNN-HMM classifier is developed to detect the epileptic seizures automatically with focal and non-focal epileptic EEG signals. The inputs are collected from the four datasets and preprocessing is performed for converting unstructured data into structured data. The preprocessed signal is divided into five separate sub-bands and subjected to wavelet decomposition to decrease noise. The Human learning optimization (HLO) algorithm is proposed to perform the electrode selection process to identify the best electrode and also helps to reduce the overfitting problem. Once the signals are decided optimally, the features extraction takes place through three steps such as TQWT, Hjorth and statistical features are preferred for analyzing the EEG signals to derive the deep analysis of the data. The seizure detection is done using the deep dual adaptive CNN-HMM classifier, which helps in the efficient detection of epileptic seizure. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, precision and f-measure of the deep dual adaptive CNN-HMM classifier's outputs are evaluated. For dataset 1, attains 99.46%, 98.48%, 99.46%, 99.90%, and 99.58% with TP, 98.13%, 98.46%, 97.56%, 99.88%, and 99.56% with tenfold. For dataset 2, attains 94.53%, 92.37%, 99.94%, 93.11% and 93.60% with TP, 90.84%, 91.17%, 90.27%, 93.09% and 93.58% with tenfold. Similarly, for dataset 3 attains 94.48%, 94.62%, 96.82%, 95.41%, and 96.40% with TP, 94.54%, 94.68%, 96.87%, 95.46% and 96.45% with tenfold. For dataset 4, attains 99.13%, 98.72%, 98.00%, 96.73% and 97.72% with TP, 99.28%, 99.32%, 99.22%, 98.85% and 98.92% with tenfold, which is more efficient than other existing methods.

Abstract:An encephalogram (EEG) is a commonly used ancillary test to aide in the diagnosis of epilepsy. The EEG signal contains information about the electrical activity of the brain. Traditionally, neurologists employ direct visual inspection to identify epileptiform abnormalities. This technique can be time-consuming, limited by technical artifact, provides variable results secondary to reader expertise level, and is limited in identifying abnormalities. Therefore, it is essential to develop a computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) system to automatically distinguish the class of these EEG signals using machine learning techniques. This is the first study to employ the convolutional neural network (CNN) for analysis of EEG signals. In this work, a 13-layer deep convolutional neural network (CNN) algorithm is implemented to detect normal, preictal, and seizure classes. The proposed technique achieved an accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity of 88.67%, 90.00% and 95.00%, respectively.
Automated Classification of Seizures against Nonseizures: A Deep Learning Approach

Abstract:In current clinical practice, electroencephalograms (EEG) are reviewed and analyzed by well-trained neurologists to provide supports for therapeutic decisions. The way of manual reviewing is labor-intensive and error prone. Automatic and accurate seizure/nonseizure classification methods are needed. One major problem is that the EEG signals for seizure state and nonseizure state exhibit considerable variations. In order to capture essential seizure features, this paper integrates an emerging deep learning model, the independently recurrent neural network (IndRNN), with a dense structure and an attention mechanism to exploit temporal and spatial discriminating features and overcome seizure variabilities. The dense structure is to ensure maximum information flow between layers. The attention mechanism is to capture spatial features. Evaluations are performed in cross-validation experiments over the noisy CHB-MIT data set. The obtained average sensitivity, specificity and precision of 88.80%, 88.60% and 88.69% are better than using the current state-of-the-art methods. In addition, we explore how the segment length affects the classification performance. Thirteen different segment lengths are assessed, showing that the classification performance varies over the segment lengths, and the maximal fluctuating margin is more than 4%. Thus, the segment length is an important factor influencing the classification performance.

Abstract:<p>Identifying epileptic seizures through analysis of the electroencephalography (EEG) signal becomes a standard method for the diagnosis of epilepsy. Manual seizure identification on EEG by trained neurologists is time-consuming, labor-intensive and a reliable automatic seizure/non-seizure classification method is needed. One of the challenges in automatic seizure/non-seizure classification is that seizure morphologies exhibit considerable variabilities. In order to capture essential seizure patterns, this paper leverages an attention mechanism and a bidirectional long short-term memory (BiLSTM) to exploit both spatial and temporal discriminating features and overcome seizure variabilities. The attention mechanism captures spatial features according to the contributions of different brain regions to seizures. BiLSTM extracts discriminating temporal features in forward and backward directions. Cross-validation experiments and cross-patient experiments over the noisy data of CHB-MIT were performed. We obtained average sensitivity of 87.30%, specificity of 88.30% and precision of 88.29% in cross-validation experiments, higher than using the current state-of-the-art methods, and the standard deviations were lower. These results indicate that our approach performs well against current state-of-the-art methods and is more robust across patients.</p>

Exploring the potential of pretrained CNNs and time-frequency methods for accurate epileptic EEG classification: a comparative study

Abstract:Prompt diagnosis of epilepsy relies on accurate classification of automated electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Several approaches have been developed to characterize epileptic EEG data; however, none of them have exploited time-frequency data to evaluate the effect of tweaking parameters in pretrained frameworks for EEG data classification. This study compares the performance of several pretrained convolutional neural networks (CNNs) namely, AlexNet, GoogLeNet, MobileNetV2, ResNet-18 and SqueezeNet for the localization of epilepsy EEG data using various time-frequency data representation algorithms. Continuous wavelet transform (CWT), empirical Fourier decomposition (EFD), empirical mode decomposition (EMD), empirical wavelet transform (EWT), and variational mode decomposition (VMD) were exploited for the acquisition of 2D scalograms from 1D data. The research evaluates the effect of multiple factors, including noisy versus denoised scalograms, different optimizers, learning rates, single versus dual channels, model size, and computational time consumption. The benchmark Bern-Barcelona EEG dataset is used for testing purpose. Results obtained show that the combination of MobileNetV2, Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) and Adam optimizer at a learning rate of 10-4, coupled with dual-data channels, provides the best performance metrics. Specifically, these parameters result in optimal sensitivity, specificity, f1-score, and classification accuracy, with respective values of 96.06%, 96.15%, 96.08%, and 96.10%. To further corroborate the efficacy of opted pretrained models on exploited Signal Decomposition (SD) algorithms, the classifiers are also being simulated on Temple University database at pinnacle modeling composition. A similar pattern in the outcome readily validate the findings of our study and robustness of deep learning models on epilepsy EEG scalograms.The conclusions drawn emphasize the potential of pretrained CNN-based models to create a robust, automated system for diagnosing epileptiform. Furthermore, the study offers insights into the effectiveness of varying time-frequency techniques and classifier parameters for classifying epileptic EEG data.
Residual Deep Convolutional Neural Network for EEG Signal Classification in Epilepsy

Abstract:Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder, affecting about 1% of the population at all ages. As many as 60% of people with epilepsy experience focal seizures which originate in a certain brain area and are limited to part of one cerebral hemisphere. In focal epilepsy patients, a precise surgical removal of the seizure onset zone can lead to effective seizure control or even a seizure-free outcome. Thus, correct identification of the seizure onset zone is essential. For clinical evaluation purposes, electroencephalography (EEG) recordings are commonly used. However, their interpretation is usually done manually by physicians and is time-consuming and error-prone. In this work, we propose an automated epileptic signal classification method based on modern deep learning methods. In contrast to previous approaches, the network is trained directly on the EEG recordings, avoiding hand-crafted feature extraction and selection procedures. This exploits the ability of deep neural networks to detect and extract relevant features automatically, that may be too complex or subtle to be noticed by humans. The proposed network structure is based on a convolutional neural network with residual connections. We demonstrate that our network produces state-of-the-art performance on two benchmark data sets, a data set from Bonn University and the Bern-Barcelona data set. We conclude that modern deep learning approaches can reach state-of-the-art performance on epileptic EEG classification and automated seizure onset zone identification tasks when trained on raw EEG data. This suggests that such approaches have potential for improving clinical practice.

Abstract:Epilepsy is the unstable state caused by excessive discharge of brain cells. In more than 30 percent of epilepsy cases, seizures cannot be controlled with medication or surgery. Refractory epilepsy seriously affects the health of patients and brings great economic burden to families. Therefore, this requires an effective seizure classification and prediction method to reduce risk in epilepsy patients. Researchers proposed machine learning or deep learning methods to predict seizures. However, automatic screening of electrode channels and improvement of predictive accuracy remain a challenge. A multi-channel feature fusion model CNN-Bi-LSTM. This method only requires simple preprocessing. CNN is responsible for extracting spatial features, Bi-LSTM is responsible for extracting temporal features, and finally, two channel weights are allocated through the attention mechanism to filter out the results of the more weighted electrode channel output classification. The performance of the model is tested on the CHB-MIT dataset, and the output is divided into three categories, including normal, pre-seizure and mid-seizure. The ten-fold cross-validation average accuracy is 94.83%, the precision is 94.84%, the recall is 94.84%, the F1-score is 94.83%, and the MCC is 92.26% across CHB-MIT EEG. The ten-fold cross-validation average accuracy of UCI data set is 77.62%, the precision is 77.66%, the recall is 77.62%, the F1-score is 77.60%, and the MCC is 72.03%. The results showed that this method is superior to existing methods and can predict the EEG signals of epilepsy in advance. This work will be extended to design a removable epilepsy predictive device for real-time use.

SeizureNet: Multi-Spectral Deep Feature Learning for Seizure Type Classification

Abstract:Automatic classification of epileptic seizure types in electroencephalograms (EEGs) data can enable more precise diagnosis and efficient management of the disease. This task is challenging due to factors such as low signal-to-noise ratios, signal artefacts, high variance in seizure semiology among epileptic patients, and limited availability of clinical data. To overcome these challenges, in this paper, we present SeizureNet, a deep learning framework which learns multi-spectral feature embeddings using an ensemble architecture for cross-patient seizure type classification. We used the recently released TUH EEG Seizure Corpus (V1.4.0 and V1.5.2) to evaluate the performance of SeizureNet. Experiments show that SeizureNet can reach a weighted F1 score of up to 0.94 for seizure-wise cross validation and 0.59 for patient-wise cross validation for scalp EEG based multi-class seizure type classification. We also show that the high-level feature embeddings learnt by SeizureNet considerably improve the accuracy of smaller networks through knowledge distillation for applications with low-memory constraints.

Abstract:Epilepsy is a complex neurological condition that affects a large number of people worldwide. Electroencephalography (EEG) measures the electrical activity of the brain and is widely used in epilepsy diagnosis, but it usually requires manual inspection, which can be hours long, by a neurologist. Several automatic systems have been proposed to detect epilepsy but still have some unsolved issues. In this study, we proposed a dynamic method using a deep learning model (Epileptic-Net) to detect an epileptic seizure. The proposed method is largely heterogeneous and comprised of the dense convolutional blocks (DCB), feature attention modules (FAM), residual blocks (RB), and hypercolumn technique (HT). Firstly, DCB is used to get the discriminative features from the EEG samples. Then, FAM extracts the essential features from the samples. After that, RB learns more vital parts as it entirely uses information in the convolutional layer. Finally, HT retains the efficient local features extracted from the layers situated at the different levels of the model. Its performance has been evaluated on the University of Bonn EEG dataset, divided into five distinct classes. The proposed Epileptic-Net achieves the average accuracy of 99.95% in the two-class classification, 99.98% in the three-class classification, 99.96% in the four-class classification, and 99.96% in classifying the complicated five-class problem. Thus the proposed approach shows more competitive results than the existing model to detect epileptic seizures. We also hope that this method can support experts in achieving objective and reliable results, lowering the misdiagnosis rate, and assisting in decision-making.

Evaluating CNN Methods for Epileptic Seizure Type Classification Using EEG Data

Abstract:Epilepsy impacts around 6.38 per 1,000 people globally, presenting diagnostic challenges due to the complexity of seizures. Accurate classification of seizure types via Electroencephalogram (EEG) is critical for effective treatment and enhancing patient quality of life. However, the intricate characteristics of EEG data necessitate expert interpretation, a process that is both time-intensive and susceptible to human error. Recent advancements in Deep Learning (DL) have shown promise in EEG analysis, offering new avenues for seizure type classification. This study introduces two innovative deep learning architectures designed for seizure type classification within a seven-class framework: Network 1D Raw, which applies 1D Convolutions to Raw EEG signals, and Network 2D Conv, utilizing 2D convolutions on pre-computed spectrograms. Both architectures employ Separable Convolutions to enhance feature extraction efficiency, with the Network 1D Raw also incorporating a dilation rate technique for expanded analysis. Tested on the Temple University Hospital Seizure (TUSZ) dataset, these methods are evaluated using inter-patient 3-fold cross-validation. The Network 1D Raw achieved a weighted f1-score of , while the Network 2D Conv reached , both surpassing existing benchmarks. The Network 1D Raw demonstrated superior classification for Absence Seizure (ABSZ), Focal Non-specific Seizures (FNSZ), and Generalized Non-specific Seizures types (GNSZ) with AUPRs of , , and , with Network 2D Conv excelling in FNSZ Seizures and GNSZ classes with AUPRs of and . Our DL models advance seizure type classification, blending efficiency with accuracy. Network 1D Raw's compact design suits low-resource environments, aiding quick, precise diagnoses. Future work will focus on expanding dataset diversity, particularly for underrepresented seizure types, to further refine classification performance.

Abstract:Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals contain vital information on the electrical activities of the brain and are widely used to aid epilepsy analysis. A challenging element of epilepsy diagnosis, accurate classification of different epileptic states, is of particular interest and has been extensively investigated. A new deep learning-based classification methodology, namely epileptic EEG signal classification (EESC), is proposed in this paper. This methodology first transforms epileptic EEG signals to power spectrum density energy diagrams (PSDEDs), then applies deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) and transfer learning to automatically extract features from the PSDED, and finally classifies four categories of epileptic states (interictal, preictal duration to 30 min, preictal duration to 10 min, and seizure). It outperforms the existing epilepsy classification methods in terms of accuracy and efficiency. For instance, it achieves an average classification accuracy of over 90% in a case study with CHB-MIT epileptic EEG data.

Electroencephalography (EEG) signals are used to detect epilepsy and are considered standard techniques to diagnose epilepsy conditions. EEG monitors and records the brain activity of epilepsy patients, and these recordings are used in the diagnosis of epilepsy. However, extracting the information from the EEG recordings manually for detecting epileptic seizures is a difficult cumbersome, error-prone, and labor-intensive task. These negative attributes of the manual process increase the demand for implementing an automated model for the seizure detection process, which can classify seizure and nonseizures from EEG signals to help in the timely identification of epilepsy. Recently, deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) techniques have been used in the automatic detection of epileptic seizures because of their superior classification abilities. ML and DL algorithms can accurately classify different seizure conditions from large-scale EEG data and provide appropriate results for neurologists. This work presents a feature extraction-based convolutional neural network (CNN) to sense and classify different types of epileptic seizures from EEG signals. Different features are analyzed to classify seizures via EEG signals. Simulation analysis was managed to investigate the classification performance of the hybrid CNN-RNN model in terms of different achievement metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, f1 score, and false-positive rate. The results validate the efficacy of the CNN-RNN model for seizure detection.

An epilepsy classification based on FFT and fully convolutional neural network nested LSTM

Abstract:Background and objective: Epilepsy, which is associated with neuronal damage and functional decline, typically presents patients with numerous challenges in their daily lives. An early diagnosis plays a crucial role in managing the condition and alleviating the patients' suffering. Electroencephalogram (EEG)-based approaches are commonly employed for diagnosing epilepsy due to their effectiveness and non-invasiveness. In this study, a classification method is proposed that use fast Fourier Transform (FFT) extraction in conjunction with convolutional neural networks (CNN) and long short-term memory (LSTM) models. Methods: Most methods use traditional frameworks to classify epilepsy, we propose a new approach to this problem by extracting features from the source data and then feeding them into a network for training and recognition. It preprocesses the source data into training and validation data and then uses CNN and LSTM to classify the style of the data. Results: Upon analyzing a public test dataset, the top-performing features in the fully CNN nested LSTM model for epilepsy classification are FFT features among three types of features. Notably, all conducted experiments yielded high accuracy rates, with values exceeding 96% for accuracy, 93% for sensitivity, and 96% for specificity. These results are further benchmarked against current methodologies, showcasing consistent and robust performance across all trials. Our approach consistently achieves an accuracy rate surpassing 97.00%, with values ranging from 97.95 to 99.83% in individual experiments. Particularly noteworthy is the superior accuracy of our method in the AB versus (vs.) CDE comparison, registering at 99.06%. Conclusion: Our method exhibits precise classification abilities distinguishing between epileptic and non-epileptic individuals, irrespective of whether the participant's eyes are closed or open. Furthermore, our technique shows remarkable performance in effectively categorizing epilepsy type, distinguishing between epileptic ictal and interictal states versus non-epileptic conditions. An inherent advantage of our automated classification approach is its capability to disregard EEG data acquired during states of eye closure or eye-opening. Such innovation holds promise for real-world applications, potentially aiding medical professionals in diagnosing epilepsy more efficiently.

Abstract:Epilepsy is a neurological disorder and for its detection, encephalography (EEG) is a commonly used clinical approach. Manual inspection of EEG brain signals is a time-consuming and laborious process, which puts heavy burden on neurologists and affects their performance. Several automatic techniques have been proposed using traditional approaches to assist neurologists in detecting binary epilepsy scenarios e.g. seizure vs. non-seizure or normal vs. ictal. These methods do not perform well when classifying ternary case e.g. ictal vs. normal vs. inter-ictal; the maximum accuracy for this case by the state-of-the-art-methods is 97+-1%. To overcome this problem, we propose a system based on deep learning, which is an ensemble of pyramidal one-dimensional convolutional neural network (P-1D-CNN) models. In a CNN model, the bottleneck is the large number of learnable parameters. P-1D-CNN works on the concept of refinement approach and it results in 60% fewer parameters compared to traditional CNN models. Further to overcome the limitations of small amount of data, we proposed augmentation schemes for learning P-1D-CNN model. In almost all the cases concerning epilepsy detection, the proposed system gives an accuracy of 99.1+-0.9% on the University of Bonn dataset.

Abstract:The electroencephalogram (EEG) has emerged over the past few decades as one of the key tools used by clinicians to detect seizures and other neurological abnormalities of the human brain. The proper diagnosis of epilepsy is crucial due to its distinctive nature and the subsequent negative effects of epileptic seizures on patients. The classification of minimally pre-processed, raw multichannel EEG signal recordings is the foundation of this article's unique method for identifying seizures in pre-adult patients. The new method makes use of the automatic feature learning capabilities of a three-dimensional deep convolution auto-encoder (3D-DCAE) associated with a neural network-based classifier to build an integrated framework that endures training in a supervised manner to attain the highest level of classification precision among brain state signals, both ictal and interictal. A pair of models were created and evaluated for testing and assessing our method, utilizing three distinct EEG data section lengths, and a tenfold cross-validation procedure. Based on five evaluation criteria, the labelled hybrid convolutional auto-encoder (LHCAE) model, which utilizes a classifier based on bidirectional long short-term memory (Bi-LSTM) and an EEG segment length of 4 s, had the best efficiency. This proposed model has 99.08 ± 0.54% accuracy, 99.21 ± 0.50% sensitivity, 99.11 ± 0.57% specificity, 99.09 ± 0.55% precision, and an F1-score of 99.16 ± 0.58%, according to the publicly available Children's Hospital Boston (CHB) dataset. Based on the obtained outcomes, the proposed seizure classification model outperforms the other state-of-the-art method's performance in the same dataset.
