Abstract:showed a plasmocytic infiltration of 25%. In view of the presence of a hyperproteinaemia and the history of a multiple myeloma in a patient with a worsening renal function and nephrotic range proteinuria a decision for a renal biopsy was taken. On the renal echography, the two kidneys are ectopic bilaterally positioned over the iliac crests at the pelvis. The ectopic position was confirmed on an abdominal CT scan (Fig. 1). The procedure took place under local anaesthesia with the patient on a decubitus dorsal position (Fig. 2). Two biopsy samples were taken and the patient did not present any periprocedural complications. The renal biopsy revealed lesions of nephro-angiosclerosis with diffuse cortical and interstitial fibrosis extending at 20% of the total surface along with occasional tubular atrophy and two lesions of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. Pelvic kidney is the most common type of renal ectopia. In a French series from 1989, 32 out of the 50 cases studied presented clinical problems of which the most frequent were renal stones and ureter-pelvic junction disease. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case of a renal biopsy concerning a patient with bilateral pelvic ectopic kidneys.
