Abstract:Due to cyber security is an important issue of the cloud computing. Insider threat becomes more and more important for cyber security, it is also much more complex issue. But till now, there is no equivalent to a vulnerability scanner for insider threat. We survey and discuss the history of research on insider threat analysis to know system dynamics is the best method to mitigate insider threat from people, process, and technology. In the paper, we present a system dynamics method to model insider threat. We suggest some concludes for future research who are interested in insider threat issue The study.

Abstract:The 1980s witnessed the refreshing of ethical turn in studies of literature and philosophy and thus the reviving of American ethical criticism. American Ethical Criticism: A Survey by Yang Gexin is the first monograph focusing on the evolvement of western ethical criticism. Firstly, the monograph explores the necessity and possibility of American ethical criticism on the basis of a detailed review on the close relation between literature and ethics as well as the practices of moral criticism. Then, it generalizes the reasons and characteristics of ethical turn in literary researches of the 1980s, discusses the main ideas of three critics who made important contribution to the renaissance of ethical criticism, and analyzes the main figures of new humanism ethical criticism and deconstructionism ethical criticism from aspects of theoretical foundations, main concepts, and critical practices. Finally, it makes a brief review on the reception of American ethical criticism in China, and then explores its reconstruction and perfection. The author believes that the ethical literary criticism, initiated by Chinese scholars, perfects American ethical criticism in theory by proving that literature grows out of the ethical demand and the ethical function is primary while the aesthetic one is secondary, and in practice by defining a set of new critical terms and illustrating their application.

Abstract:This essay, a companion piece to “Discipline and Punish: despatches from the citation manual wars and other (literally) unspeakable stories” [Law's cultural mediations, special edition. 2001. Griffith Law Review 10(2)], undertakes a situated and critical cultural analysis of US law, with particular attention to the law school's insistent “training for hierarchy” and the interrelationship of that training with the bodies and texts that are constitutive of judge-made law in the United States. This essay revisits the early orientation of cultural studies work towards interrogating subject-formation and critically positioning and problematizing the scholarly subject and the various institutions, discourses and practices that produce both her subject position and her critical practice. At the same time it also stages an anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-classist engagement with the congeries of mechanisms by which hegemony is inscribed, reproduced, and accorded value by a range of practices to do with disciplinary texts and their production within US legal institutions. Both “semiotic”/“textualist” and “culturalist”, then, in orientation, this essay finds little space for celebration or play, although it alludes in its title, inter alia, to Inventing the Abbots, an artifact of popular US cinema that was at once both a reinscription of the family romance and an exploration of the mutually reinforcing and corrosive effects of class, sexism and secrets/silence. Finally, the essay seeks to explore questions raised by Meaghan Morris and Gayatri Spivak about the possibility or radical transformation through such critical cultural practice and the risks of iteration that is complicity, of submission to and collaboration with disciplinary violence, and of the complex politics of negotiation.

Abstract:The article examines five controversial views, expressed in Jonathan Swift's A Modest Proposal , Helga Kuhse and Peter Singer's Should the Baby Live? The Problem of Handicapped Infants , Alberto Giubilini and Francesca Minerva's "After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?", Julian Savulescu's "Procreative beneficence: why we should select the best children", and the author's "A rational cure for prereproductive stress syndrome". These views have similarities and differences on five levels: the grievances they raise, the proposals they make, the justifications they explicitly use, the justifications they implicitly rely on, and the criticisms that they have encountered. A comparison of these similarities and differences produces two findings. First, some controversial views based on utilitarian considerations would probably fare better flipped upside down and presented as Juvenalian satires. Secondly, a modicum of humor or modesty could help presenters of controversial views to stir polite critical discussion on the themes that they put forward.

Abstract:Liu Maosheng's new book The Ethical Expressions of Society and Politics: A Study on George Bernard Shaw's Plays (Published by People's Publishing House in 2019) offers a unique and innovative perspective to the works of George Bernard Shaw by adopting Ethical Literary Criticism as the analytical approach. Based on close reading, the book fully explores the ethical values of Shaw's plays against the backdrop of Victorian literature as a whole, and systematically expounds the unique expression and richness of Shaw's ethical ideals developed in his four phases of play writing, with a special focus on interpretation of society and politics, two fundamental themes in Shaw's plays, and an emphasis on literature's responsibility to reflect reality and its function to educate readers. This books features structural integrity, vigorous logic, sufficient textual evidence and innovative opinions, with both its analytical perspective and the arguments and conclusion drawn being profoundly original. It's a pioneering work in the research of Shaw's play writing which provides a brand-new approach to the study of Shaw's works and serves as successful research model to help us better reflect on Shaw's significant contribution to English Literature.

Abstract:Today, a plague of certitude is spreading within American psychoanalysis. This socially constructed virus is increasingly dominating our unmoderated list serves, appearing in our journals, and slowly seeping into our institutes. Having transcended the objectivism of traditional Freudian analysis, we seem to be revivifying its spirit. Rigorous claims to truth, superior knowledge, and contempt for those not in agreement abound. The life and work of psychoanalyst and sociologist Erich Fromm is offered as an antidote and model for resistance to this plague. He consistently objected to all forms of authoritarianism, from the Right and the Left. As a radical humanist he viewed us all as responsible selves, not mere vessels for instinctual drives or victims of unbearable circumstances. As Paul Roazan said about Fromm: "It still seems to me remarkable how he was willing to stand up for what he believed in. He should be a model of independence and autonomy for us all."

Abstract:Lawrence Buell is Powell M. Cabot Professor of American Literature in the Department of English and American Literature and Language at Harvard University, specialist on antebellum American literature and a pioneer of ecocriticism. He won the 2003 Warren-Brooks Award for outstanding literary criticism for his 2003 book on Ralph Waldo Emerson. His Writing for an Endangered World won the 2001 John G. Cawelti Award for the best book in the field of American Culture Studies. His major books include Literary Transcendentalism (1973), Emerson (2003), The Future of Environmental Criticism: Environmental Crisi's and Literary Imagination (2005), The American Transcendentalists: Essential Writings (2006), and Shades of the Planet: American Literature as World Literature (2007). In this interview, Professor Buell reflects upon his academic achievements during the last eight years since 2002, comments on the present development of ecocriticism in the United States and predicts the new dimensions of future developing trends. He clarifies the social responsibilities of humanity scholars and the interaction between literary criticism and social criticism and asserts that we must promote a re-contextualization of all of literary history in light of environmental history. He also pinpoints the intellectual beginning of his later turn toward ecocriticism. He considers Writing for an Endangered World to be the single best and fullest statement of his critical positions, in which he points out that we should read literary history and discourse as eco-discourse. He provides a model for the "second wave" ecocriticism: ecocriticism committed to tracking scandalous inequalities that have disproportionately created human health hazards for the poor, minority, and other marginalized population groups. His broader argument is that because that state and fate of all the world's peoples are intertwined as the result of sharing an increasingly common environment in an increasingly globalized world, in principle there is no environmental immunity anywhere from the forms of immiserization that are suffered most spectacularly and scandalously by society losers.

Abstract:The essay discusses some difficulties in Scott Shapiro’s LEGALITY (2011). Many are well-known among specialists, but I set them out systematically here for the benefit of non-specialists. These include the mischaracterization of core jurisprudential questions in terms of “grounding” relations, which unfortunately erases the major natural law positions in the field (e.g., those of Finnis and Murphy), and results in a version of “positivism” that major legal positivists (e.g., Hart) do not accept; but also the false claims that: (1) “knowledge of law is normative” such that to say X has “a legal right is to draw a normative conclusion”; (2) officials have a legal obligation to follow the rule of recognition and;(3) Hart commits a “category mistake” in his discussion of social rules.The essay also criticizes Shapiro’s discussion of jurisprudential methodology and his (Dworkinian) attempt to show that the answer to jurisprudential questions matters to how courts should decide cases.

Abstract:Why do people become whistleblowers? Why do most people not become whistleblowers? What becomes of whistleblowers? These are three of the questions that Carl Elliott, a professor of bioethics at the University of Minnesota, sets out to answer in the context of medical research in his beautifully written book The Occasional Human Sacrifice: Medical Experimentation and the Price of Saying No. (I suspect that the publisher rather than Elliott chose the title.)Elliott was inspired to try and answer these questions by his experience as a whistleblower against his own university. In June 2008 he read a newspaper account of the death by suicide of Dan Markingson. Markingson had been a participant in a clinical trial of an antipsychotic drug, Seroquel, funded by AstraZeneca. Abstract:It is normal to think that philosophers’ first dedication is to the truth. Publishers and writers consider ideas and papers according to criteria such as originality, eloquence, interestingness, soundness, and plausibility. I suggest that moral consequence should play a greater role in our choices to publish when serious harm is at stake. One’s credence in a particular idea should be weighed against the potential consequences of the publication of one’s ideas both if one turns out to be right and if one turns out to be wrong. This activist approach to philosophical writing combines moral concern with epistemic humility.

Abstract:After a short summary of the Sokal Affair and of the point of view of Steven Weinberg, we discuss certain aspects of the scientist ideology present in the last book of Alan Sokal "Pesudoscience ans Postmodernism: Antagonists or Fellow-Travellers?", published in France. The danger of the three extremisms present in our time - relativist extremism, scientist extremism and its mirror-image, the religious extremism - is underlined. We point out also the necessity of a transdisciplinary dialogue between the different disciplines as a rampart against the fascination caused by these three extremisms.

Abstract:IT IS TIME TO CONSIDER A FUNDAMENTAL REEXAMINATION of the US system for transplantable organ procurement and allocation. This need arises from several important issues, including whether regional vs national allocation policies best ensure fair access to available organs; the alleged problems in procurement of human tissue under investigation by the Inspector General of the US Department of Health and Human Services; the application of new technologies for growing human pluripotent stem cells that may one day allow the manufacture of replacement organs and tissues autologous to their recipients; and perhaps most important, weaknesses and tensions in organ procurement policies that have produced chronic problems and shortfalls in the availability of life-saving solid organs. The article by Wendler and Dickert in this issue of THE JOURNAL is the latest indication of concerns about equity, reliability, and efficacy in organ procurement and transplantation that must stimulate change. From the vantage of ethics and public policy, the modern era of organ transplantation began in the mid 1960s as allogeneic organ transplantation first experienced a “crisis of success.” Improvements in surgical technique, the evolving understanding of immunologic tolerance, and development of antirejection drugs shifted the paradigm from one of transplanting kidneys from identical twins and other immunologically similar relatives to transplanting organs from genetically unrelated living donors, and later, cadaver donors. At the same time, advances in hemodialysis and improved surgical outcomes led physicians to classify more patients with end-stage renal disease as suitable candidates for transplantation, thereby widening the gap between the demand for and supply of organs. The increasing need for cadaver organs prompted efforts to clarify who could authorize donation. Under the common law, no one has a property interest in a dead body, and the limited quasi-property interest in corpses rests with the next of kin, who are expected to arrange for appropriate disposition of the remains. As an expression of personal selfdetermination, competent adults can make an informed choice to donate a kidney while alive, but under common law a premortem decision to donate one’s organs (or body) is not binding on the next of kin after one’s death. To remedy this problem, in the mid 1960s the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL) initiated work on a model statute on anatomical gifting. The proposed Uniform Anatomical Gift Act (UAGA) permitted individuals to execute a simple declaration—a “uniform donor card”—to make an anatomical gift that would take effect at death; in addition, the statute listed, in rank order, the persons who could make such a gift “in the absence of actual notice of contrary indications by the decedent.” Attention generated by the stunning medical achievement of heart transplantation beginning in December 1967 fueled public interest in the UAGA, and by 1972 the law had been adopted (in some form) by every state. Yet the report of heart transplantation created a new concern: how could physicians remove a “living” heart from a “dead” body and then transplant that heart into a body from which this essential organ had been removed but that was not “dead”? Common law cases “defining” death as the complete absence of heartbeat and breathing were decided long before total respiratory and circulatory support were technically possible. The UAGA authorized physicians attending potential donors to determine the time of death but provided no guidance about how such a determination was to be made. Lacking authoritative legal guidance, some physicians were reluctant to declare death in patients who met the criteria articulated by leading physicians for determining death largely based on lack of brain function. Moreover, when physicians did use those criteria, the legitimacy of their determination became an issue both in cases brought against transplant surgeons and in criminal cases against persons whose acts had caused the donor’s “brain death.” To address this concern, about half the states adopted statutory “definitions” of death in the 1970s, and in 1981, a presidential commission, along with the NCCUSL, the American Medical Association, and the American Bar Association jointly proposed the Uniform Determination of Death Act. Abstract:Arlie Russell Hochschild is Professor Emerita of Sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. Her books include: The Managed Heart (1983), The Second Shift (1989), The Time Bind (1997) and The Commercialization of Intimate Life (2003). In her work, Hochschild explores the many ways we manage our emotions in personal life and perform emotional labor in the workplace. Her most recent work explores the growing political divide in America, and the need for each side to climb an ‘empathy wall’ to begin dialogue with those on the other side. She reports on five years of field-work among Tea Party enthusiasts in Louisiana in her latest book, Strangers in Their Own Land: Anger and Mourning on the American Right (2016). In this interview, she reflects on the phenomenon of critique within the framework of emotional labor, which leads to discussions on neoliberalism and the ideal worker in contemporary working life.

Abstract:Rising health care expenditures have led to numerous cost-control proposals. An examination of the ethical questions surrounding the role that physicians play in the control of health care costs suggests that unilateral rationing decisions by individual physicians at the bedside are morally unacceptable. Such decisions are arbitrary, ineffective in redistributing health care resources, and formally unjust. Restrictive gatekeeping (the creation of financial incentives for physicians to limit care given to individual patients) also seems unacceptable because of its morally significant effects. First, it disguises the role of those actually responsible for cost-control decisions; second, it routinely creates a "moral stress test" by forcing physicians to act in ways that are contrary to their own interests in order to serve the needs of patients; third, it undermines the trust between doctor and patient; and fourth, it rations by class of persons rather than class of technology. In contrast, a morally sound system would attempt to control costs by honestly informing patients and assigning responsibility justly, would encourage physicians to act in the interests of patients, would foster trust, and would recognize the great importance of equal treatment for all patients. Such a system would depend on input from an informed public and would apply equally to all members of society.

Abstract:Along with concerns about the deleterious effects of politically driven government intervention on science are the intrusion of private sector interests into the conduct of research and the reporting of its results. Scientists are generally unprepared for the challenges posed by private interests seeking to advance their economic, political, or ideological agendas. They must educate and prepare themselves for assaults on scientific freedom, not because it is a legal right, but rather because social progress depends on it.

Abstract:Science is among humanity's greatest achievements, yet scientific censorship is rarely studied empirically. We explore the social, psychological, and institutional causes and consequences of scientific censorship (defined as actions aimed at obstructing particular scientific ideas from reaching an audience for reasons other than low scientific quality). Popular narratives suggest that scientific censorship is driven by authoritarian officials with dark motives, such as dogmatism and intolerance. Our analysis suggests that scientific censorship is often driven by scientists, who are primarily motivated by self-protection, benevolence toward peer scholars, and prosocial concerns for the well-being of human social groups. This perspective helps explain both recent findings on scientific censorship and recent changes to scientific institutions, such as the use of harm-based criteria to evaluate research. We discuss unknowns surrounding the consequences of censorship and provide recommendations for improving transparency and accountability in scientific decision-making to enable the exploration of these unknowns. The benefits of censorship may sometimes outweigh costs. However, until costs and benefits are examined empirically, scholars on opposing sides of ongoing debates are left to quarrel based on competing values, assumptions, and intuitions.

Abstract:In September 2020, the surgeon Paulo Macchiarini, who used stem cell technology to enable the transplants of artificial and donor trachea, was charged with aggravated assault in Sweden. In this comment, we argue that the Ethics Council of the Karolinska Institute should have considered issues from philosophy of science when they were brought to their attention, rather than dismiss them as irrelevant to research ethics. We demonstrate how conceptual issues of a philosophy-of-science-kind about clinical research and medical practice should be integral to research ethics.
