Abstract:This study examined the relationship between parental self-efficacy in parents of young deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) children and children's spoken language skills. A retrospective within-subjects study design was used that included 24 mother-child dyads with DHH children. Parental self-efficacy was assessed using the Scale of Parental Involvement and Self-Efficacy-Revised. Children's language abilities were assessed using the Preschool Language Scale-5th edition. Our data revealed no significant associations between global measures of parental self-efficacy and children's auditory comprehension, expressive communication, and total language scores. However, positive correlations were found between child language skills and specific parents' beliefs about their ability to support their child's spoken language development, their ability to use strategies to help their child communicate, and their active involvement in intervention. Findings highlight the importance of examining discrete aspects of parental self-efficacy as it specifically relates to parents supporting their DHH child's spoken language development. Future directions and implications are provided.

Maternal Perception of Self-Efficacy and Involvement in Young Children with Prelingual Hearing Loss

Abstract:Appropriate intervention needs to support families and consider them as a part of rehabilitation program. Parents who have high self-efficacy are more likely to put their knowledge and skills into action and have positive interactions with their children. In addition, there has been a positive relation between parental involvement and child educational success. The aim of present study was evaluating maternal perception of both self-efficacy and involvement between mothers of children with hearing aid and cochlear implant via Scale of Parental Involvement and Self Efficacy (SPISE) and exploring relationship between maternal self-efficacy and parental involvement and child factors. 100 mothers of children with hearing loss were available. 49 mothers participated in study, filled SPISE, and return it on time. SPISE consisted of three sections (1) demographic information, (2) maternal self-efficacy, (3) parental involvement. All cases had received at least 6 months auditory training and speech therapy. Participants included 30 (61.2%) mothers of children with hearing aid, 19 (38.8%) mothers of children with cochlear implant. ANOVA analysis showed that there is no significant difference between hearing aid (HA) and cochlear implant (CI) groups in term of self-efficacy and parent-involvement except for question 21 (comfortable in participating in individualized program) that score in HA group was significantly higher than CI group. Results of present study has practical implications for early interventionists working with families. Every early intervention program should consider families to reach maximum outcome. Early interventionists can use SPISE to evaluate parental selfefficacy and involvement and work on parents with low score to achieve the best results.
Self-Esteem in Hearing-Impaired Children: The Influence of Communication, Education, and Audiological Characteristics

Abstract:OBJECTIVE: Sufficient self-esteem is extremely important for psychosocial functioning. It is hypothesized that hearing-impaired (HI) children have lower levels of self-esteem, because, among other things, they frequently experience lower language and communication skills. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare HI children's self-esteem across different domains with those of normal hearing (NH) children and to investigate the influence of communication, type of education, and audiological characteristics.METHODS: This large (N = 252) retrospective, multicenter study consisted of two age- and gender-matched groups: 123 HI children and 129 NH controls (mean age = 11.8 years). Self-reports were used to measure self-esteem across four domains: perceived social acceptance by peers, perceived parental attention, perceived physical appearance, and global self-esteem.RESULTS: HI children experienced lower levels of self-esteem regarding peers and parents than NH controls. Particularly HI children who attended special education for the deaf were at risk, even after correcting for their language development and intelligence. Yet, levels of global self-esteem and self-esteem involving physical appearance in HI children equalled those of NH controls. Furthermore, younger age at implantation and longer duration of having cochlear implants (CIs) were related to higher levels of self-esteem.CONCLUSION: HI children experience lower levels of self-esteem in the social domains. Yet, due to the heterogeneity of the HI population, there is high variability in levels of self-esteem.DISCUSSION: Clinicians must always be aware of the risk and protective factors related to self-esteem in order to help individual patients reach their full potential.

Abstract:Introduction: Hearing parents of deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) children may experience parenting stress and social support could be a buffer to this stress. Differences in levels of these two indicators may exist between mothers and fathers. This study focuses on the parenting stress and social support needs of mothers and fathers of DHH children. Methods: Twenty-seven French parental couples of DHH children completed the Parenting Stress Index and the Family Needs Survey, a questionnaire on social support needs. Results: Their overall stress scores showed no difference, but subdomain scores show that mothers and fathers are more stressed by the child's hyperactivity, and fathers by the child's adaptability, than parents of children with normal hearing. Mothers are more stressed than fathers by role restriction; they feel less free because of their parenting role. Fathers have a lower quality of attachment to their child than mothers. Parents have a high social support need, especially for obtaining information about their child's individual characteristics and health situation. The ranking of mothers and fathers in the top 10 needs reveals different needs profiles. Parenting stress profiles show that mothers and fathers with higher-than-normal stress levels have a greater overall need for social support than mothers and fathers with lower than normal stress levels. Discussion: This study highlights the value of assessing parenting stress and social support needs in parents of DHH children for a better understanding of their situation in research and its clinical implications, as well as the importance of differentiating outcomes for mothers and fathers.

Abstract:The aim of this study was to establish radioimmunoassay (RIA) for fecal estrone sulfate (E1S) and to elucidate changes in fecal E1S during pregnancy in the sow. Fecal E1S was extracted on a commercially available solid phase column, and the E1S fraction obtained was subjected to RIA. The sensitivity of the RIA was 8.5 pg/tube. The intra- and inter-assay coefficients of variation were 8.8-8.9% and 10.7-14.2%, respectively. Mean recovery for E1S added to fecal samples was as high as 95.0%. A significant positive correlation (r = 0.904, n = 147 p < 0.0001) existed between fecal and plasma E1S concentrations. Mean E1S concentration in feces and plasma fluctuated exhibiting two peaks. The first peak of E1S concentration was evident on day 28-32 in feces and on days 26-30 in plasma. The E1S concentration in both feces and plasma remained at baseline levels during mid-pregnancy, but began to rise gradually around days 72-82 and 70-80, in feces and plasma respectively, and reached a peak concentration on days 110-114. Following parturition, the concentration of E1S in plasma declined rapidly, but there was a two-day delay before a decline in fecal E1S. Apart from this two-day delay, changes in fecal E1S were similar to those in plasma E1S. The study indicates that the measurement of E1S in feces could be a useful tool for early pregnancy diagnosis and for monitoring fetal development in sows and gilts.
Reliability of parental assessment of auditory skills in young children: a cross-sectional study in Italian language

Abstract:Objective: Hearing impairments (HIs) that progress or have later onset may have specific effects on language and cognitive development, but are difficult to suspect during routine primary care visits. Family concern regarding hearing is thought to represent an important risk factor requiring audiological examination. Yet it is not clear how successful parents are in recognising the consequences or specific suspect elements of HI in young children. The aim of this study is to verify whether parents of at-risk children recognise the presence of HI through a parental questionnaire that draws attention to auditory skills development and compares them with language and communication skills. Design: Observational study. Setting: From 2013 to 2019, parents were administered the Questionnaire on Hearing and Communication Abilities before audiological evaluation of their children at a secondary care institute. Participants: 309 Italian children (1-36 months old) at risk of HI. Primary and secondary outcome measures: Questionnaire sensitivity in predicting the presence and type of HI. Results: Parents report a decrease in auditory skills for children with sensorineural HI (Χ2(2)=14.4, p=0.003), with an increased concern expressed in 59% compared with 24% in normally hearing children. Both auditory (r=-0.18, p=0.002) and comprehension (r=-0.13, p=0.057) skills weakly but negatively correlated with a diagnosis of HI. On discriminant analysis, the positive predictive value of the questionnaire was 0.78, but with low sensitivity (0.39). Conclusions: Parents of children with a verified risk of HI have some capacity to recognise non-typical auditory behaviour. Thus, it is important to assess parental concerns during primary care health visits, and a targeted questionnaire on auditory abilities can complement existing screening procedures. However, given the low sensitivity of the questionnaire, we conclude that for a reliable detection of HIs that progress or have later onset an objective screening tool is always required.

Abstract:Background: Despite early identification and advancements in cochlear implant and hearing aid technology, delays in language skills in deaf children continue to exist. Good-quality parent–child interaction (PCI) is a key predictor for the successful development of deaf children’s signed and/or spoken language. Though professionals have standard assessments to monitor child language, a clinical tool to observe the quality of parental interaction is yet to be developed. Aims and methods: This systematic review with narrative synthesis aims to uncover which parent behaviours are assessed in PCI studies with deaf infants aged 0–3 years, how these behaviours are assessed, and which are correlated with higher scores in child language. Results: Sixty-one papers were included, spanning 40 years of research. Research included in the review assessed parents’ skills in gaining attention, joint engagement, emotional sensitivity, and language input. PCI was mostly assessed using coding systems and frame-by-frame video analysis. Some of the parent behaviours mentioned previously are associated with more words produced by deaf children. Conclusion: The results of the review provide the evidence base required to develop the content of a future clinical assessment tool for parent–child interaction in deafness.

Comparing Parent and Teacher Ratings of Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties in 5-year old Children who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing

Abstract:Children who are deaf or hard of hearing (DHH) are at higher risk of developing mental health problems. This study reports on the parent and teacher ratings of emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) in 5-year old DHH children. It explores the similarities and differences between informants, and the risk and protective factors associated with parent and teacher-ratings of EBD. Parents and teachers of 224 DHH children completed questionnaires on children's EBD and functional auditory behaviour. Children completed standardised assessments of non-verbal cognitive and language abilities. On average, parent- and teacher-rated EBD were 0.42 and 0.20 standard deviations higher than typically developing children. Parents reported more behavioural problems (hyperactivity and conduct), whereas teachers reported poorer prosocial behaviour. Inter-rater correlations were generally low to moderate (0.29 to 0.50). Overall, children with additional disabilities, lower non-verbal cognitive ability, and poor functional auditory behaviour were at higher risk of EBD. Language ability was only a significant predictor of teacher-rated EBD for children with hearing aids but not cochlear implants. Differences in informant-ratings emphasize the need for a multi-informant approach to get a global perspective on the psychopathology of DHH children. The findings indicate that parents may need assistance with managing behavioural problems at home, and teachers should facilitate more opportunities to practice prosocial behaviour at school. Intervention efforts should focus on facilitating good functional listening skills, as this may in turn, improve the mental health of young DHH children.
Factors Influencing Pediatric Cochlear Implant Use

Abstract:Purpose: Cochlear implant device use, quantified by hearing hours percentage (HHP), is a known variable that impacts pediatric spoken language outcomes. Isolating specific factors that impact HHP could help clinicians intervene to reduce the implications of barriers and amplify the positive facets. The aim of this study is to identify variables that predict HHP in children. Method: A retrospective chart review was completed using data collected from 2019 to 2023. Subjects were included if they were under the age of 18 years at the time of data collection and had data logging recorded in the clinical patient database. A mixed-effects model weighed the influence of year of the clinical visit (2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023), race/ethnicity (White, African American, Asian, Hispanic, Mixed Race, or Other), listener type (bilateral simultaneous, sequential, bimodal, unilateral hearing loss, or unilateral listener; one cochlear implant and a contralateral deaf ear), insurance type (private, Medicaid, or military, or none), age at surgery, presence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or an intellectual development delay (IDD), and age at test on HHP. Results: There were a total of 5,106 data points from 958 subjects. The mean HHP of the cohort was 64.2% (SD = 26.94%). Lower HHP was associated with the presence of IDD or ASD, use of Medicaid, and older age at surgery. HHP increased with age. Subjects of color did not have a significantly different HHP than those who were White. There was an interaction between year of data collection and listener type. Each listener type's HHP was impacted differently by the year of data collection; however, years of the COVID-19 pandemic yielded lower HHP for all listener types. Conclusions: The group mean of 64.9% is lower than the recommended 80% HHP goal, indicating that pediatric cochlear implant recipients have slightly more than half the access to sound as their age-matched typically hearing peers. Several variables that impact HHP were identified in this study. Cochlear implant teams can utilize these data to support vulnerable patients to increase HHP. Additional investigation is needed to determine what interventions most effectively improve HHP.

Abstract:Objective Stress levels among caregivers of children with hearing loss could influence caregiver-child interactions and ultimately, children's developmental outcomes. Given the limited understanding of stress levels among caregivers of Australian children with hearing loss, the present study aimed to examine stress in caregivers of 5-year-old children with hearing loss wearing hearing aids or cochlear implants and to identify factors associated with greater stress levels. Methods A total of 99 caregivers of 70 hearing aid users and 29 cochlear implant users participated in the study. Caregivers' stress was measured using the 68-item Pediatric Hearing Impairment Caregiver Experience (PHICE) questionnaire that examines caregivers' context-specific stress levels in relation to caring for a child with hearing loss. Factors contributing to stress were identified in relation to eight domains including communication, education, emotional well-being, equipment, financial, healthcare, social, and support. Results Across domains, the three most common predictors of increased stress were the use of cochlear implants over hearing aids, use of sign and oral language (mixed) over oral language as the communication mode at home, and increased behavioural difficulties of the child. Conclusion Overall, reported stress levels among Australian caregivers were low. Identified factors influencing stress levels can inform service provision improvement.

Timing of Cochlear Implantation and Parents’ Global Ratings of Children’s Health and Development

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To assess children's health-related quality of life (HRQL) and development after cochlear implant (CI) surgery and compare improvements between different age of implantation categories.STUDY DESIGN:Prospective, longitudinal study comparing outcomes of deaf children post-CI with hearing controls.SETTING:Six US CI centers.PATIENTS:Deaf children who received CI (n = 188) and hearing children of comparable ages (n = 97).INTERVENTION:CI before 5 years of age.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE:Parental ratings of global HRQL and development, as assessed over the first 4 years of follow-up using visual analog scales. Development scores assess parental views of children's growth and development, motor skills, ability to express themselves and communicate with others, and learning abilities. Associations of baseline child and family characteristics with post-CI HRQL and development were investigated using multivariable analysis, controlling for factors that influence post-CI language learning.RESULTS:Baseline deficits of CI candidates relative to hearing controls were larger in development than HRQL. Development scores improved significantly by 4 years after CI, particularly in the youngest CI recipients. Developmental deficits of older CI recipients with early, extended hearing aid use were only partially remediated by CI. Overall, no significant health deficits were observed in CI children after 4 years. Cognition and speech recognition were positively associated with both HRQL and development.CONCLUSION:Parental perspectives on quality of their child's life and development provide practical insight into the optimal timing of interventions for early-onset deafness. Validity of parental global assessments is supported by clinical measures of speech perception and language learning and comparison with a well-validated health status instrument.

Abstract:Purpose: Emerging literature suggests caregiver self-efficacy is an important factor related to caregivers' shared reading practices with their children. Reduced shared reading has been documented among families of caregiver(s) with language-based learning disabilities (LBLD). Yet, it remains unclear whether caregivers' history of language and reading difficulties is associated with caregiver self-efficacy. The purpose of this study was to examine whether self-efficacy in language- and reading-related caregiver activities related to caregiver history of language and reading difficulties and shared reading practices. Method: One hundred seventy-six caregivers of children aged 18–60 months completed a custom self-efficacy in language- and reading-related caregiver activities questionnaire, as well as demographic, history of language and reading difficulties (used both as a continuous measure and to dichotomize caregivers with and without LBLD history), and shared reading measures in a one-time survey. Results: Caregivers with a history of LBLD reported an overall lower self-efficacy and a reduced amount of time reading with their children per week than caregivers without LBLD history. Examining caregiver history of language and reading difficulties continuously across the whole group, self-efficacy mediated the relationship between caregiver difficulties and shared reading practices, even when caregiver education was incorporated as an additional mediator in models. Conclusions: Findings indicate that self-efficacy and caregiver education mediate the relationship between caregiver history of language and reading difficulties and shared reading practices. Consideration of self-efficacy by clinicians and educators is warranted when promoting shared reading practices to caregivers of young children. There is a need for future research to examine relationships between self-efficacy and shared reading among caregivers with LBLD of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Assessing parent-child interaction with deaf and hard of hearing infants aged 0–3 years: An international multi-professional e-Delphi

Abstract:Most deaf babies are born to hearing families who do not yet have the skills to communicate effectively with their child. Adaptations to communication are important because the quality of parent-child interaction (PCI) predicts how a deaf child develops language. Teachers of Deaf children and Speech and Language Therapists support families with communication in the home. Currently, there are no assessments that appraise how a parent interacts with their deaf baby. Previous research has identified which parent behaviours and approaches are used in PCI assessments in research and practice. The current paper forms consensus on the core content and best practices of a new PCI tool for deaf children aged 0–3 years. An international sample of expert academics and practitioners (n = 83) were recruited to take part in a two-round modified electronic Delphi study. Participants were presented with 69 statements focusing on (i) which parent behaviours were important in assessment (ii) the methods to be used in PCI assessment. Participants rated the extent to which they agreed or disagreed with each statement on a five-point Likert scale and gave comments to support their response. Consensus was defined as > 80% of participants rating the statement as a (4) 'highly important' or a (5) 'essential'. If consensus was not reached, participant comments were used to generate new statements which were rated in the second round. This project involved a patient and public involvement (PPI) group of hearing and deaf parents and professionals to design and guide the study. Consensus was achieved on 52 statements and ranged from 80–99%. A further six statements were additionally included. Within the 58 statements included, 36 were parent behaviours which centred on the parent's observation of, and response to, their child's behaviour and/or language. The remaining 22 statements focused on methods used in the assessment such as parents having their PCI filmed, parents having the opportunity to review the video and assess themselves alongside a professional, and parents being involved in subsequent goal setting. This e-Delphi presented the parent behaviours and methods of assessment to be included in a new PCI tool for deaf children. Future co-production work and acceptability and feasibility testing are discussed.

Factors impacting outcomes of cochlear implantation in children at two University centres in China: Multi-year analysis from the Paediatric Implanted Recipient Observational Study (P-IROS)

Abstract:Objectives: To identify factors affecting functional hearing performance and quality of life (QoL) outcomes in paediatric cochlear implantation (CI) recipients at two University centres in mainland China. Methods: Two university centres in mainland China, part of the prospective longitudinal Paediatric Implanted Recipient Observational Study (P-IROS), contributed participant data. Participants were aged under 10 years at time of CI. Functional hearing performance and QoL measures were collected prior to device activation, and at 6-monthly intervals for 2 years post-implantation. Functional hearing endpoints including Categories of Auditory Performance-II (CAP-II) and QoL were evaluated and analysed using ordinal mixed-effects regression models. Results: Data were from 288 children with a mean age at implant of 2.74 years. Overall follow-up at 1 year was 59% and 51% at 2 years. Younger age at implantation (p<0.001) and hearing aid use preimplantation (p=0.026) were associated with significant benefit. Bilateral device users (both CI and bimodal) achieved significantly better functional hearing performance on the CAP-II than unilateral CI users (p<0.001). Slower functional hearing improvements were observed in those with lower parental expectations compared to higher expectations (p<0.001). QoL improved over time but followed a different initial trajectory between centres. Conclusion: All participants demonstrated significant improvements in auditory performance and QoL over time. Younger age at CI, and bilateral/bimodal device fitting contributed to earlier improvements. Other potential factors that could help inform families, professionals, and health authorities about choice of hearing device and educational supports required included aetiology of hearing loss and level of maternal education.
Supporting the Social-Emotional Well-Being of Elementary School Students Who Are Deaf and Hard of Hearing: A Pilot Study

Abstract:Purpose: Children who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH), their parents, Teachers of the Deaf, and other community stakeholders were involved in co-designing a web-based resource to support students' social-emotional well-being. The resource was designed to provide families and teachers with strategies to enhance the social and emotional well-being of Grade 4-6 students who are DHH. This study reports outcomes of a pilot study of the web-based resource intervention. Method: A pre-post pilot study was conducted to quantitatively examine reported anxiety, well-being, social relationships, school experience, student-teacher relationship, and parent and teacher self-efficacy. A total of 37 students, their parents (n = 37), and their classroom teachers (n = 40) participated in the intervention program and were provided access to the resource. Results: In total, 19 students, 22 parents, and 17 teachers completed both pre- and postsurvey measures. Paired t tests revealed that there was a statistically significant increase in parents' self-efficacy scores from pre- to posttest. Multivariate analysis of covariance revealed a significant association between parent use of the website and student-reported improved peer support and reduced school loneliness. No other statistically significant differences were found. Conclusions: The use of a web-based resource codeveloped with students who are DHH, their parents, and teachers could potentially be beneficial for the well-being of students who are DHH as well as parents' self-efficacy. Further research is needed to confirm the benefits.
Working Memory and Language Relate to Report of Socio-Emotional Functioning in Children with Hearing Loss

Abstract:Background: Children with hearing loss have been found to have significantly more behavioral and emotional challenges than their typically hearing peers, though these outcomes are variable at the individual level. Working memory deficits have been found to relate to executive functioning and overall emotion regulation, leading to behavior challenges. Language development is essential for development of social relationships and communicating one's needs and this may lead to distress when children cannot communicate effectively. Based on prior findings in children with hearing loss and their typically hearing peers, working memory and language skills were hypothesized to be related to parent and teacher report of socio-emotional functioning. Methods: Participants were 35 children with hearing loss (66% female, M = 5.17 years old, SD = ±1.97) whose language, working memory, and socio-emotional functioning were evaluated during the course of treatment and educational planning. Results: Bivariate analyses indicated that working memory was related to a number of socio-emotional domains (e.g., functional communication, atypicality, withdrawal), as were language scores (e.g., social skills, inattention). The direction of these associations was such that stronger working memory and language skills were related to more regulated socio-emotional functioning. Conclusions: This study is limited in generalizability by size and the relative homogeneity of the sample. A call to action of the current study includes more education with regard to profiles and presentations of children with hearing loss, and an early focus on socio-emotional learning to foster the development of regulatory skills.

Prevalence and Social Risk Factors for Hearing Impairment in Chinese Children-A National Survey.

Abstract:Hearing impairment may affect children's communication skills, social development, and educational achievement. Little is known about the prevalence of hearing impairment among Chinese children. Data were taken from the 2006 second China National Survey on Disability (CNSD). Hearing impairment was defined as moderate (41-60 dB HL), severe (61-80 dB HL), profound (81-90 dB HL), or complete (>91 dB HL). Logistic regression was used to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). A weighted number of 567,915 hearing impairment children were identified, yielding a prevalence of 17.49 per 10,000 people (95% CI: 16.90-18.08), with prevention or treatment options possible for 64.6% of hearing impairment children. The main causes of hearing impairment were hereditary, tympanitis, and drug intoxication. Illiteracy in one or both parents (mother: OR = 1.388, 95% CI: 1.125-1.714, p < 0.0001; father: OR = 1.537, 95% CI: 1.152-2.049, p < 0.0001 relative to no school or primary school), annual family income lower than national average (OR = 1.323, 95% CI: 1.044-1.675, p = 0.0203, relative to higher than national average), household size larger than three people (OR = 1.432, 95% CI: 1.164-1.762, p = 0.0007, relative to smaller than three people) and single-mother family (OR = 2.056, 95% CI: 1.390-3.042, p = 0.0176, relative to intact family) were the independence risk factors for hearing impairment among Chinese children. Lower annual family income, male children, larger household size, single-mother family, and lower levels of maternal and paternal education were independent risk factors for hearing impairment for Chinese children. Further studies on hearing impairment prevention and the relationship between parental social factors and the risk of hearing impairment are needed.
Challenges faced by Indian parents in raising a child with a cochlear implant - Impact on communication outcomes

Abstract:Objectives: The objectives of the present study were to understand the parental views regarding stress, and its affect language, and auditory outcomes. The study also aims to understand the relationship between parental stress, and child's age. Design, setting and participants: A retrospective study was performed at a tertiary medical hospital. 50 parents of cochlear implant recipients were recruited for the study. The parents were interviewed and the children were tested using a test battery. The average age of implantation was 4.29 years, and the average hearing age was 3.23 years. Main outcome measures: The parents were interviewed about their child's needs, and experience with the cochlear implant using the Strength, and Difficulty questionnaire in Hindi, Questionnaire on Resources, and Stress-Short Form, and the Family Environment Scale, Closed - format Questionnaire to understand parental views, and experiences. The language outcomes were studied using the Integrated Scales of Development (ISD), Revised Categories of Auditory Performance. Factor analysis, and Chi-square tests were performed to understand potential relationships between parental stress, and child language, and/or auditory outcomes. Results: The results provide five main factors that accounted for significant variance including financial stress (30.1%), hyperactivity (15.2%), lack of personal rewards (13%), peer problems (10.9%), and emotional problems (9.2%). Acquisition of language was highly influenced by stress and caregiver's 'lack of personal rewards. 'Financial stress', and 'hyperactive behavior' of the child significantly affected the receptive language acquisition of a HI child. The most concerning factors for parents were well-being, and happiness (0.885), followed by social relationships (0.830), communication (0.736), the process of implantation (0.695), and the decision to implant (0.681). The stress regarding finance among parents increased marginally (0.024) as the child's age progressed. Conclusion: Parental stress is ongoing. The impact on the expressive language development of the child is significant. The maximum concern of parents is regarding the financial aspects of a cochlear implant, and the lifespan care of their child. Hence, professionals should provide regular, and context-specific counseling to parents after implantation to understand the parents' concerns, and provide appropriate remediation.
