Abstract:Switching to low-global warming potential (GWP) propellants for pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDIs) is crucial in current inhalation product development, as it is crucial to safeguard patient access. This paper provides both theoretical and experimental evidence to advance the understanding of the relative performance of pMDIs using traditional HFA propellants (HFA-134a, HFA-227ea) versus new low-GWP propellant (HFO-1234ze, HFO-1234yf, HFC-152a) across three stages of pMDI actuation: discharge of propellant from the spray orifice, atomization of the bulk liquid into droplets, and interaction with the surrounding environment. The acoustic profiles, which represent the propellant discharge from the spray orifice, revealed that the plume duration and audio amplitude were mostly influenced by the diameter of the orifice and to a lesser extent by propellant type. The initial propellant droplet size produced after atomization of the discharged bulk liquid was evaluated by measuring content equivalent diameters at different ethanol concentrations and spray orifice diameters. Through a 0.32 mm spray orifice, propellant-only pMDIs produced droplets in the 9.0–13.5 μm range, with HFC-152a yielding the largest droplets and HFO-1234yf the smallest, while all exhibited comparable dependence on ethanol concentration and spray orifice size. Modeling of moisture condensation on propellant droplets indicated that the amount of condensed water and droplet lifetime both depend strongly on ambient humidity and ethanol concentration and only weakly on the propellant type. Three suspension formulations in HFA-134a, HFO-1234ze, or HFC-152a, were tested under varying relative humidities to evaluate the impact of ambient humidity on the in vitro aerosol performance of suspension pMDIs. In vitro evaluation of solution-based pressurised metered dose inhaler sprays with low GWP propellants

Abstract:BACKGROUND: The impending transition from high Global Warming Potential (GWP) propellants such as HFA134a to low-GWP alternatives such as HFA152a and HFO1234ze(E) in pressurised metered dose inhalers (pMDIs) poses a number of challenges. Changes in chemicophysical properties will alter spray performance; this study investigates those differences using matched hardware and formulations. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Aerodynamic particle size distribution (APSD) measurements, laser diffraction and high-speed imaging experiments were used to compare the performance of HFA134a, HFA152a and HFO1234ze(E) solution formulations of becamethasone dipropionate (BDP). Propellant-only placebos, cosolvent-free solutions (0.05 mg/mL), 8\% and 15\% w/w ethanol solution formulations (2.0 mg/mL) were investigated. RESULTS: HFA152a formulations were found to have increased actuator and throat deposition while HFO1234ze(E) showed comparable APSD performance to HFA134a. Droplet and particle size increased for both low-GWP propellants. High-speed imaging revealed that HFA152a formulations spread more rapidly and were less stable and repeatable than HFA134a. HFO1234ze(E) formulations were found to spread more slowly than HFA134a, but converged with HFA134a ex-mouthpiece. Propellant effects were moderated by the addition of ethanol. CONCLUSIONS: Stability changes were found to be dominant in the near-orifice region, depending on formulation properties and ex-orifice flashing behaviour. Shot-to-shot repeatability effects were more pronounced in the ex-mouthpiece region where mixing with the ambient air is dominant. As such, modifications to orifice and mouthpiece geometry may provide a route to improved in vitro bioequivalence for low-GWP PMDIs.

Abstract:A challenge in pressurised metered-dose inhaler formulation design is management of adhesion of the drug to the canister wall, valve and actuator internal components and surfaces, especially for sedimenting or creaming suspensions. Visual analysis of drug solubility and suspension behavior is typically performed in transparent vials. If the results are affected strongly by wall-material interactions, they may not be replicable in typical metal canister pMDI systems. This is of particular concern in low-greenhouse warming potential (GWP) propellant formulations where the chemistry of the new propellants and solubility with many drugs is not yet fully understood. The same can be extended to deposition in actuator and valve components, which are generally opaque. In this study, we demonstrate a novel application of X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation to assay the contents of surrogate solution and suspension pMDI formulations of potassium iodide and barium sulfate in propellants HFA134a, HFA152a and HFO1234ze(E) using standard components. Through unit life drug distribution in the canister valve closure region and actuator can vary more significantly with new propellants. These effects must be taken into consideration in the development of products utilising low-GWP propellants.

Abstract:Thermostable dry powder formulations with high aerosol performance are attractive inhalable solid dosage forms for local treatment of lung diseases. However, preserved long-term physical stability of dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulations is critical to ensure efficient and reproducible delivery to the airways during the shelf life of the drug product. Here, we show that ternary excipient mixtures of the disaccharide trehalose (Tre), the polysaccharide dextran (Dex), and the shell-forming dispersion enhancer leucine (Leu) stabilize siRNA-loaded lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (LPNs) during spray drying into nanocomposite microparticles, and result in inhalable solid dosage forms with high aerosol performance and long-term stability. The stabilizing roles of Tre and Dex were also studied separately by investigating DPI formulations containing binary mixtures of Leu/Tre and Leu/Dex, respectively. DPI formulations containing binary Leu/Dex mixtures were amorphous and displayed preserved long-term physical stability of LPNs and chemical stability of siRNA in accelerated stability studies under exaggerated storage conditions (ambient temperature and relative humidity). In contrast, powders containing binary Leu/Tre mixtures were amorphous, and hence metastable, and were recrystallized after six months of storage. Ternary mixtures of Tre, Leu, and Dex provided the most efficient protection of the LPNs during the spray drying process and prevented recrystallization of amorphous Tre. Hence, in ternary mixtures, Leu, Tre, and Dex have the following functions: the shell-forming Leu functions as a dispersion enhancer and is essential for high aerosol performance, the disaccharide Tre provides LPN protection during manufacturing and storage due to efficient coverage of the LPN surface, and the polysaccharide Dex promotes the formation of porous particles and prevents recrystallization of Tre during long-term storage. Therefore, the use of ternary excipient mixtures composed of Leu, Tre, and Dex, may prevent instability problems of DPI formulations and preserve the aerosol performance during long-term storage, which is essential for effective pulmonary drug delivery.

Abstract:Dry-powder inhalers (DPIs) are valued for their stability but formulating them is challenging due to powder aggregation and limited flowability, which affects drug delivery and uniformity. In this study, the incorporation of L-leucine (LEU) into hot-melt extrusion (HME) was proposed to enhance dispersibility while simultaneously maintaining the high aerodynamic performance of inhalable microparticles. This study explored using LEU in HME to improve dispersibility and maintain the high aerodynamic performance of inhalable microparticles. Formulations with crystalline itraconazole (ITZ) and LEU were made via co-jet milling and HME followed by jet milling. The LEU ratio varied, comparing solubility, homogenization, and aerodynamic performance enhancements. In HME, ITZ solubility increased, and crystallinity decreased. Higher LEU ratios in HME formulations reduced the contact angle, enhancing mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD) size and aerodynamic performance synergistically. Achieving a maximum extra fine particle fraction of 33.68 ± 1.31% enabled stable deep lung delivery. This study shows that HME combined with LEU effectively produces inhalable particles, which is promising for improved drug dispersion and delivery.

Development of Aggregation-Caused Quenching Probe-Loaded Pressurized Metered-Dose Inhalers with Fluorescence Tracking Potentials

Abstract:Recently, pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) are getting more attention as an effective approach of pulmonary drug delivery, and nanoparticle-based formulations have become a new generation of pMDIs, especially for water insoluble drugs. Up until now, there is no clinical application of nanoparticle-based pMDIs. The main hurdle remains in the lack of knowledge of the in vivo fate of those systems. In this study, a fluorescent probe named P4 with aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) effect was loaded in the nanoparticle-based pMDIs to track the in vivo fate. P4 probe expressed strong fluorescence when distributed in intact nanoparticles, but quenched in the in vivo aqueous environment due to molecular aggregation. Experimentally, P4 probe was encapsulated into solid lipid nanoparticles (SLN) as P4-SLN, and then, the formulation of pMDIs was optimized. The content (w/w) of the optimal formulation (P4-SLN-pMDIs) was as follows: 6.02% Pluronic® L64, 12.03% ethanol, 0.46% P4-SLN, and 81.49% 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFA-134a). P4-SLN-pMDI was transparent in appearance, possessed a particle size of 132.07 ± 3.56 nm, and the fine particle fraction (FPF) was 39.53 ± 1.94%, as well good stability was shown within 10 days. The results indicated P4-SLN-pMDI was successfully prepared. Moreover, the ACQ property of P4-SLN-pMDIs was verified, which ensured the fluorescence property as a credible tool for in vivo fate study. Taken together, this work established a platform that could provide a firm theoretical support for exploration of the in vivo fate of nanoparticle-based pMDIs in subsequent studies. Consistent Pulmonary Drug Delivery with Whole Lung Deposition Using the Aerosphere Inhaler: A Review of the Evidence

Abstract:Metered dose inhalers (MDIs) are one of the most common device types for delivering inhaled therapies. However, there are several technical challenges in development and drug delivery of these medications. In particular, suspension-based MDIs are susceptible to suspension heterogeneity, in vitro drug-drug interactions, and patient handling errors, which may all affect drug delivery. To overcome these challenges, new formulation approaches are required. The AerosphereTM inhaler, formulated using co-suspension delivery technology, combines drug crystals with porous phospholipid particles to create stable, homogenous suspensions that dissolve once they reach the airways. Two combination therapies using this technology have been developed for the treatment of COPD: glycopyrrolate/formoterol fumarate (GFF MDI; dual combination) and budesonide/glycopyrrolate/formoterol fumarate (BGF MDI; triple combination). Here, we review the evidence with a focus on studies assessing dose delivery, lung deposition, and effects on airway geometry. In vitro assessments have demonstrated that the Aerosphere inhaler provides consistent dose delivery, even in the presence of simulated patient handling errors. Combination therapies delivered with this technology also show a consistent fine particle fraction (FPF) and an optimal particle size distribution for delivery to the central and peripheral airways even when multiple drugs are delivered via the same inhaler. Studies using gamma scintigraphy and functional respiratory imaging have demonstrated that GFF MDI is effectively deposited in the central and peripheral airways, and provides clinically meaningful benefits on airway volume and resistance throughout the lung. Overall, studies suggest that the Aerosphere inhaler, formulated using co-suspension delivery technology, may offer advantages over traditional formulations, including consistent delivery of multiple components across patient handling conditions, optimal particle size and FPF, and effective delivery to the central and peripheral airways. Future studies may provide additional evidence to further characterize the clinical benefits of these technical improvements in MDI drug delivery.

Abstract:Protein drugs contained within pressurized metered dose inhalers (pMDIs) show immense potential for fundamental research and industrial applications, owing to their high bioavailability, convenient administration, and cost‐effectiveness. To deliver protein drugs efficiently, researchers have reached a consensus on the use of carrier particles. However, the main obstacle impeding the commercial availability of pMDI carrier particles is their low stability. This instability is primarily attributed to particle aggregation caused by the Ostwald ripening phenomenon and chemical degradation by water sensitivity of protein drugs. This study proposes the utilization of lecithin, a carrier material possessing an amphiphilic structure, to overcome this bottleneck. By constructing lecithin‐based reverse micelle systems with protein drugs encapsulated within the high‐polarity microdomain, this work anticipates an improvement in the stability of carrier particles within pMDIs. Specifically, the formation of crystalline phases in the reverse micelle systems can control carrier particle size through crystalline self‐limiting effect, preventing particle aggregation. Additionally, the low‐polarity microdomain of the carrier serves as a hydrophobic barrier, shielding protein drugs from water and preventing chemical degradation. Consequently, this work believes that the lecithin‐based reverse micelle system holds significant potential in providing new theoretical insights and experimental support for the advancement of pMDIs containing protein drugs. The bottleneck issue for protein drugs encapsulated pressurized metered‐dose inhalers is the low stability mainly caused by particle aggregation and chemical degradation. Constructing reverse micelle systems based on lecithin carriers is promising to improve the stability of protein drugs encapsulated pressurized metered‐dose inhalers by crystalline size self‐limiting effect and hydrophobic barrier effect.
The Study of Spray-Freeze-Drying Technique for Development of Novel Combination pMDIs, Part I: Study on the Preparation Method

Abstract:Clinically available pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) mainly directly use micronized drugs as inhalable microparticles. Although technology for preparing pMDIs has proven to obtain clinically appropriate aerosol performance, the fine particle fraction and delivered dose content uniformity (DDCU) of pMDIs still need to be improved. DDCU problem is usually exacerbated by patients' handling errors prior to taking a dose. In this study, novel phospholipid microparticle inhalation pMDIs were prepared by a spray-freeze-drying process using mometasone furoate and formoterol fumarate dihydrate as model drugs and distearoylphosphatidylcholine as an excipient. Combined with the material composition, the atomization and freeze-drying processes were also studied. Our data showed that both atomization parameters of gas–liquid ratio and freeze-drying curve settings met the requirements of drug design. According to aerodynamic performance in vitro and DDCU evaluation, the performance of the phospholipid microparticle inhalation pMDI was better than that of the micronized drug microparticle pMDI. In conclusion, preparing pMDIs with particle engineering has the potential to ensure accuracy of quantification and to improve the efficiency of drug deposition in lungs in clinical practice. Abstract:Co-spray dried inhalable powder formulations of fasudil monohydrochloride salt (FMCS) and inhalable lung surfactant-based nanocarriers composed of synthetic phospholipids, zwitterionic DPPC (1,2-palmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) and anionic DPPG (1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-[phosphor-rac-1-glycerol]) sodium salt, were designed and optimized using organic solution advanced spray drying. FMCS can potentially be used for the treatment of various complex pulmonary diseases with this current work focusing on pulmonary arterial hypertension. Comprehensive physicochemical characterization, electron and optical microscopy imaging, thermal analysis, molecular fingerprinting spectroscopy, in vitro aerosol dispersion performance with human dry powder inhaler (DPI) devices, in vitro membrane permeation and drug release, and in vitro human cellular studies were conducted. Well-defined, small, and smooth nanoparticles/microparticles in the solid state were engineered at different molar ratios of FMCS/DPPC/DPPG (25:75, 50:50, and 75:25) and successfully produced as inhalable powders having the properties necessary for targeted pulmonary delivery as dry powder inhalers. In vitro aerosol performance demonstrated excellent aerosol dispersion with different DPI devices. The phospholipid bilayer biophysical properties were confirmed and retained following cospray drying. Sustained release of fasudil drug and in vitro biocompatibility were demonstrated on human lung cells from different airway regions.

Abstract:Papers p 474 Breast cancer is uncommon in young women, but when it strikes it has a devastating effect on patients and their families. Several studies have shown that women who develop breast cancer in their 20s and 30s have worse survival and more biologically aggressive cancers with higher rates of proliferation and lymphovascular invasion and lower levels of oestrogen receptors than older patients with cancers of the same stage.1 Yet despite their apparently worse survival, younger women get more benefit from chemotherapy than older women. An overview of randomised trials showed that patients with operable breast cancer aged under 40 have a 37% (SD 7) proportional reduction in the odds of recurrence and a 27% (SD 8) reduced risk of death with adjuvant chemotherapy compared with reductions of 20.3% (SD 2.6) and 11.3% (SD 2.9) respectively for women aged 50-69.2 These proportionally greater benefits from adjuvant chemotherapy seem to be independent of node status. Abstract:Background. Lipid–polymer hybrid nanoparticles (LPHNPs) offer a promising method for delivering methylprednisolone (MePD) to treat lung inflammation, addressing aggregation issues seen with polymer-only formulations. Objectives. This study aimed to develop LPHNPs for MePD delivery, assessing their physicochemical properties, drug loading, cytocompatibility, and release profiles, ultimately enabling inhalable microparticle-based powder. Methods. The nanoparticles were formulated using α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-DL-aspartamide-g-Rhodamine B-g-poly(lactic acid) (PHEA-g-RhB-g-PLA) and phospholipids DPPC, DOTAP, and DSPE-PEG2000 in a 45:30:25 weight ratio. Their size, redispersion after freeze-drying, drug loading (DL%), and controlled release were evaluated. Cytocompatibility was assessed on 16-HBE cell lines, measuring anti-inflammatory effects via IL-6 and IL-8 levels. Spray drying was optimized to produce microparticles using mannitol (MAN), leucine (LEU), and N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Results. The nanoparticles had a size of 186 nm and a DL% of 2.9% for MePD. They showed good cytocompatibility, significantly reducing IL-6 and IL-8 levels. Spray drying yielded microparticles with a fine particle fraction (FPF) of 62.3% and a mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD) of 3.9 μm. Inclusion of LPHNPs@MePD (0.25% w/v) resulted in FPF and MMAD values of 56.7% and 4.4 μm. In conclusion, this study described the production of novel inhalable powders as carriers for MePD-loaded nanostructures with favorable physicochemical properties, cytocompatibility, and promising aerosol performance, indicating their potential as an effective inhalable therapy for lung inflammation with corticosteroids, especially for treating chronic diseases.

Abstract:Sustained drug delivery is considered as an effective strategy to improve the treatment of local lung diseases. In this context, inhalation administration of large porous microparticles (LPPs) represents promising prospects. However, one major challenge with said delivery technology is to control the drug release pattern (especially to decrease the burst release) while maintaining a low mass density/high porosity, which is of high significance for the aerodynamic behavior of LPP systems.Here, we show how to engineer drug-loaded, biodegradable LPPs with varying microstructure by means of a premix membrane emulsification-solvent evaporation (PME-SE) method using poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as the pore former. The influence of PVP concentration on the physicochemical properties, in-vitro drug release behavior and in-vitro aerodynamic performance of the drug-loaded microparticles was tested.We demonstrated that the PME-SE technique led to LPPs with favorable pore distribution characteristics (i.e., low external but high internal porosity) as a function of the PVP concentration. In general, more PVP conditioned a larger discrepancy of the internal vs. external porosity. When the external porosity of the LPP formulation (15 % of PVP during the manufacturing process) was less than 3 %, the burst release of the embedded drug was significantly reduced compared to LPPs prepared by a "conventional" emulsification solvent evaporation method. All the formulations prepared by the PME-SE method had aerodynamic properties suitable for inhalation.This is the first report indicating that the microstructure of LPPs can be tailored using the PME-SE technology with PVP as a suitable pore former. Impact of Leucine and Magnesium Stearate on the Physicochemical Properties and Aerosolization Behavior of Wet Milled Inhalable Ibuprofen Microparticles for Developing Dry Powder Inhaler Formulation

Abstract:This study investigated the development and characterization of leucine and magnesium stearate (MgSt) embedded wet milled inhalable ibuprofen (IBF) dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulations. IBF microparticles were prepared by a wet milling homogenization process and were characterized by SEM, FTIR, DSC, XRD and TGA. Using a Twin-Stage Impinger (TSI), the in vitro aerosolization of the formulations with and without carrier lactose was studied at a flow rate of 60± 5 L/min and the IBF was determined using a validated HPLC method. The flow properties were determined by the Carr's Index (CI), Hausner Ratio (HR) and Angle of Repose (AR) of the milled IBF with 4–6.25% leucine and leucine containing formulations showed higher flow property than those of formulations without leucine. The fine particle fraction (FPF) of IBF from the prepared formulations was significantly (p = 0.000278) higher (37.1 ± 3.8%) compared to the original drug (FPF 3.7 ± 0.9%) owing to the presence of leucine, which enhanced the aerosolization of the milled IBF particles. Using quantitative phase analysis, the XPRD data revealed the crystallinity and accurate weight percentages of the milled IBF in the formulations. FTIR revealed no changes of the structural integrity of the milled IBF in presence of leucine or MgSt. The presence of 2.5% MgSt in the selected formulations produced the highest solubility (252.8 ± 0.6 μg/mL) of IBF compared to that of unmilled IBF (147.4 ± 1.6 μg/mL). The drug dissolution from all formulations containing 4–6.25% leucine showed 12.2–18.6% drug release in 2.5 min; however, 100% IBF dissolution occurred in 2 h whereas around 50% original and dry milled IBF dissolved in 2 h. The results indicated the successful preparation of inhalable IBF microparticles by the wet milling method and the developed DPI formulations with enhanced aerosolization and solubility due to the presence of leucine may be considered as future IBF formulations for inhalation.

Abstract:Limited attempts have been made previously to develop high-loading CBD inhalable powders, which are essential for high dose delivery. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and characterise inhalable powders with ≥ 95 % w/w CBD by wet ball milling. The effects of magnesium stearate (2 % and 5 %) and inhaler resistance (low-resistance and high-resistance RS01 inhalers) on aerosol performance were also compared. Wet ball milling produced CBD powders with > 50 % production yield. The milled particles showed irregular shapes. The powders were crystalline with minimal amorphous content, low residual solvent level (<1%), and low moisture sorption (<4%). Magnesium stearate improved both the emitted and fine particle fractions. The aerodynamic particle size distribution of the formulations differed between the low-resistance and high-resistance RS01 inhalers. The latter decreased throat deposition but increased inhaler retention. The dissolution profiles showed that all three formulations released CBD steadily and plateaued at 30 min. The best scenario was CBD with 5 % magnesium stearate dispersed from the high resistance RS01 inhaler, showing the highest FPF with the lowest throat deposition. This combination may be tested in vivo in the future to investigate its pharmacokinetic profile.

Abstract:Objectives: The aim of this study was to improve the aerodynamic behavior and redispersibility of a lyophilized dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulation containing nanoparticles. Methods: Paclitaxel (PTX)-human serum albumin (HSA) nanoparticles were used as a model, and DPIs containing the nanoparticles were produced by lyophilization using different carriers and carrier ratios. A central composite design was employed to optimize the formulation. L-leucine and mannitol were chosen as independent variables, and mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD), emitted fraction, fine particle fraction (FPF), nanoparticle size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential were selected as dependent variables. Results: The water content of DPIs was less than 5% for all DPIs. The cytotoxicity of the DPIs, determined using A549 cells, was due to PTX alone. Particle sizes of 204.3 ± 1.65 nm and 94.3–1353.0 nm were obtained before and after lyophilization, respectively. The developed method resulted in a reduction in the MMAD from 8.148 μm to 5.274 μm, an increase in the FPF from 17.63% to 33.60%, and an increase in the emitted fraction from 77.68% to 97.03%. The physico-chemical characteristics of the optimized formulation were also assessed. Conclusions: In conclusion, this study demonstrates that lyophilization can be used to produce nanoparticle-containing DPI formulations with improved redispersibility and aerodynamic properties. Abstract:OBJECTIVES To examine strategies for using the mass media effectively in drug prevention campaigns targeting high sensation seekers. METHODS Both experimental lab and field studies were used to develop a comprehensive audience segmentation strategy targeting high sensation seekers. RESULTS A 4-pronged targeting strategy employed in an antimarijuana media campaign yielded significant drops in 30-day marijuana use by adolescents. Other research demonstrates how high and low sensation seekers process antidrug ads differently. CONCLUSIONS Mass mediated anti-drug campaigns aimed at high sensation seekers are effective tools for drug prevention.

Abstract:There is a pressing need for efficacious therapies in the field of respiratory diseases and infections. Lipid nanocarriers, administered through aerosols, represent a promising tool for maximizing therapeutic concentration in targeted cells and minimizing systemic exposure. However, this approach requires the application of efficient and safe nanomaterials. Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), an endocannabinoid-like endogenous lipid, plays a crucial role in providing protective mechanisms during inflammation, making it an interesting material for preparing inhalable lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). This report aims to preliminarily explore the in vitro behavior of LNPs prepared with PEA (PEA-LNPs), a new inhalable inflammatory-targeted nanoparticulate drug carrier. PEA-LNPs exhibited a size of about 250 nm, a rounded shape, and an marked improvement in PEA solubility in comparison to naked PEA, indicative of easily disassembled nanoparticles. A twin glass impinger instrument was used to screen the aerosol performance of PEA-LNP powders, obtained via freeze-drying in the presence of two quantities of mannose as a cryoprotectant. Results indicated that a higher amount of mannose improved the emitted dose (ED), and in particular, the fine particle fraction (FPF). A cytotoxicity assay was performed and indicated that PEA-LNPs are not toxic towards the MH-S alveolar macrophage cell line up to concentrations of 0.64 mg/mL, and using coumarin-6 labelled particles, a rapid internalization into the macrophage was confirmed. This study demonstrates that PEA could represent a suitable material for preparing inhalable lipid nanocarrier-based dry powders, which signify a promising tool for the transport of drugs employed to treat respiratory diseases and infections.
